I miss the days right after he was changed when most of the survivors were screaming for a nerf because he had the highest kill rate of all the killers.

Eventually he was nerfed. Not only his own basic abilities, but most of his add-ons were trashed. (I remember when the developers said snare was the problem, but for some reason they nerfed Dream Palette as well.)

More recently, the Ouroboros virus has two levels of infection. Dreamworld could also have two levels of tiers. I don't have any concrete ideas.

Yea, New Nightmare was pretty wild. And the Forever Freddy hate was a bit deserved.

But all they really needed to do was let BT proc regardless of Terror Radius and make his slowdown add-ons not stack, then he would have been in a good spot. The rest of his kit was good, but not overtuned. A strong Killer that's also easy to pickup and play isn't a crime.

Nerfing the dream pallets was a joke.

Sleepiness progressing to a second and more dangerous state is a good idea, but I'm no better off than you on knowing what to do.

Personally I'd say skillchecks and clocks would no longer wake up a Survivor in this second tier. Only being hooked or actively woken up by another Survivor would wake them. They'd also suffer a slight Hindered effect (2%) and more difficult skillchecks (think Doctor skillchecks).

It'd encourage both gen jockey and chase oriented players to look for clocks pre-emptively, or force them to group up to cure the effect after getting afflicted. Both of which could be some nice passive slowdown.

It would also help make his terrible skillcheck series of add-ons a bit less nonsensical and more meaningful.

And add-ons could be reworked add some boosts to this second state too, maybe an Ultra Rare (hopefully the worthless mini- Bloodwarden one) could be reworked to give aura reading and a Very Rare could be reworked to give a (non-stacking) action speed debuff.

Just an idea though. Who knows how that'd work in practice.

It wasn't an instantaneous transition from awake to dreaming. You had to charge the meter to full to pull a survivor into the dream world, and if they left your LOS for even an instant during this, the meter would reset.

I'm not trying to be rude, but this is just false.

Freddy didn't have a power meter or a charged ability, holding M2 unleashed an orange beam (that had orange scared faces) from his left hand that reached out a few meters (you could increase the range with add-ons, and the increased range was unironically quite good).

Once the beam hit a Survivor's model they instantly began the transition to the Dream World: a process that took 7 seconds basekit.

Freddy couldn't influence this transition whatsoever, barring a few add-ons that decreased or increased the transition time. You could immediately turn away and run to the opposite corner of the map after tagging the Survivor and they'd still end up in the Dream World - barring a failed skillcheck interrupting the transition and waking them up.

  • @fake said:

OG Freddy pretty much recreated his personality.

However, his abilities were not suitable for both Killer and Survivor in the course of the game.

But is it true that the real reason he was changed was because Survivor did not search and try to understand Dreamworld? I heard rumors about that.

I can't say how much of a factor it was, but yes, part of the reason he was changed was because his power's mechanics were unintuitive for Survivors that hadn't played as him/studied the wiki.

    ---

As to the primary topic, I don't know what Freddy needs.

I think his old power occasionally worked back then, if you played well. I personally had great success as Old Freddy, even against friends who were competent Survivors. But DbD is in a different place than it was back then.

In the current meta, taking 7 seconds to pull people into a world you can hurt them in would be a BIG pain: enjoy everyone always being able to get a safe unhook withbuilt in BT without risk, to say nothing of powering through fast Medkit heals or Hyperfocus sped up gens.

And the hit-and-run playstyle that Old Freddy excelled at has been dead ever since CoH came out.

Current Freddy is competing for the dubious honor of being the worst Killer in the entire game, so I want to see some kind of adjustment.

I just don't know if a return to his older mechanics is it.

When you hit the vulture, does it even react? Make a sound? Move?

And oh yeahhhhh, I think I remember seeing a video about that a long time ago 😂 I forgot about that!

Nope, the vultures in DbD are built different.

A fully charged Hatchet doesn't elicit any reaction at all.

  • Depends on the birds.

Crows have no collision, so the Hatchet goes through them harmlessly, like they're some kind of spooky ghost.

Vultures have collision, and the Hatchet can hit them. As with the crows though, the vulture is left unharmed.

Fun fact, while not a bird, the hanging dead cow in the old version of Coldwind's Farm Cow Tree had collision and some wonky physics, so you could hit it and get it to spin around or freak out and fly all over the place (although it stayed still attached to the tree).

  • I will never get anyone to P100, I just can't play this game enough - my highest right now is at a measly P11, and most are either at P9 or P0: right where the rework left them.

But props to those of you that do manage to get your main(s) that high. I hope you get to enjoy a permanent Level 50 Bloodweb.

You know what, I was gonna answer something, then I realized We'll Make It gives a flat out 100% health boost and it's not as fast as it sounds, and then I understood I was completely outmatched when it comes to understanding numbers in this game. So yeah, I have nothing to add.

Assuming all the perks, add-ons, and Med-Kit would stack the strategy I mentioned would increase Healing Speed by 227%. To pull off what I described you would need We'll Make It, actually.

As for We'll Make It being confusing the way percentages work is a bit misleading I guess. It's important to understand your baseline is at 100%. So any increase of 100% is then effectively just doubling something, (100% + 100% = 200% if we assume additive percentages, which is not always the case in DbD) while a decrease of 100% completely negates it (100% minus 100% being 0%).

In this case Healing Speed is a default of 16 seconds. This is because healing actions in DbD operate based on a charge system. A full heal needs 16 charges and the default heal is at a rate of 1 charge per second. So 16 seconds is our 100%.

We'll Make It doesn't feel so great because you're taking the 100% to 200%, which is a reduction of 16 seconds to 8 seconds.

For our theoretical super heal we're adding 227% to 100%, and then 100% from We'll Make It (because I messed up my original math :p).

So we end at 427%, landing us at a heal that is under 4 seconds long (3.75~ish, not considering a Great skillcheck), or fast enough that a Killer cannot recover from their stun and break the pallet in time to swing at the Survivors (3.8 seconds to recover from the stun and break the pallet without Enduring or Brutal Strength (the Killer will also likely have a delay between being stunned and beginning the kick animation)).

Also you're not "outmatched" or anything, the numbers in this game are very weird.

And what's wrong with 55% bonus speed ability on other actions? It just affects chests, totems, sabo etc. And survivors are wasting 2 perk slots for that.

Do you really thinking it is that good lol? Anything is good which keeps them away from gens. And plus for this build, they will use 2 less strong survivor perks which is great for killer player.

This. The absolute best case scenario for BTN is that it's a meme perk.

Like even imagining a hypothetical situation where 3 Survivors coordinate a buffed BTN, Leader, a Boon, a Medkit, and Desperate Measures to pull off some ridiculous midchase heal on someone, at that point it's just the insane coordination involved pulling weight, not the extra 30% from a theoretical BTN.

    Spoiler Spoiler Warning ▲▼

If you're interested, said situation could work like so: Survivor 1 runs Leader, Survivor 2 runs Desperate Measures and brings an Emergency Medkit with some speed add-ons, Survivor 3 brings Circle of Healing and Better Than New. Survivor 4 doesn't need anything.

Survivor 3 sets up Boon. Survivor 2 gets injured and then healed by Survivor 3. Survivor 3 and 4 get Injured and don't heal. Survivor 1 gets chased and Injured, runs into Boon AOE and stuns Killer where upon Survivor 2 heals them at an incredible speed thanks to all the buffs and the Medkit.

The only real issue I could see would be the 30% increased totem cleansing combined with Leader, and Counterforce to almost instabreak a totem. But with Boons being a thing, I'm not sure I really have a problem with Survivors bringing 3 of their 16 perks to cleanse a totem faster.

  • I'm still not sure why we even have a chat filter.

I get post-game harassment isn't fun and that it can be very upsetting depending on you and what is said to you: I'm not mocking the issue.

But like, why can't we just have the chat window closed by default? It already has an open/close utility. Just change the default setting and players could open it if they wanted to see what people had to say or ignore it if they didn't.

What was the point of designing something so elaborate as a chat filter, for a number of different languages, to fix an issue that already had a very simple solution?

Ah well. It is what it is.

Hopefully the Myers understood your kind sentiment, OP.

  • @Silasy said:

Deathslinger is overnerfed like Freddy and Billy. Bhvr really loves overnerfing already mid tier killers. His ADS nerf was maybe ok but TR nerf was completely unnecessary. His harpoon range was already 18 meter and increasing his TR to 32 meter was completely overkill.

They definitely should have changed his TR music instead of just making it 32 meters. One of his major selling points used to be that he was a pseudo-stealth Killer with a ranged attack. He even has (admittedly bad) add-ons leaning into that.

Then they just deleted that part of him without giving anything back.

Before the rework no doubt. I don't see him being higher than C-tier with everything they took away from his kit without reparations. That being said, to my surprise, I have seen content creators like OhTofu and Otz who have videos placing him around A and B respectively even in some fairly recent vids. But I never see people talk about his gameplay like he is that nice to be placed so high. Is there some hidden potential he has that I'm not seeing?

He has a strong anti-loop power that pairs well with Save and Exposed (and other status effects from perks that effect on M1 hit, but Exposed is probably the biggest one) and his Exposed Iri add-on got a kinda gross buff when he got nerfed.

    -

I have no doubt he sucks to play compared to how he used to feel with the instant ADS, but he's not a weak Killer by any measure. Save The Best For Last is nuts on him, he counters almost every short wall loop just by being Deathslinger, his power can hit through Exhaustion perks (including Dead Hard), any hallway is a near guaranteed hit, and any loop with a window (including shack) can be a hit.

Do other Killers have it better? Yea, but no duh. Nurse exists. Blight exists. If you main any other Killer in the game it's automatically a labor of love on your part.

He could probably use changes and I can't say anything about his tier in a tier list, but he's not garbage and he's not just a "worse Artist/worse Trickster/worse Huntress". None of them can combine their power with Devour, Sloppy, STBFL, or NOED. None of them can recharge their power on command in a few moments. None of them have a Cowboy hat (yet).

He may be worse than other Killers, he may have been overnerfed, but Deathslinger is his own unique beast.

  • Just delete the overheat mechanic and fix some of the janky environment collision boxes, and he'd genuinely be fine again.

Even with overheat he's mostly a decent Killer, it's just he has to work very hard to get what other Killers can get so much more easily.

And there's not much you can do about that without a complete rework of his kit.

Bruh... it's a game, calm down, just because people say nea is ugly, doesn't mean they are going to walk up to every girl they see and scream "YOUR HIDEOUS"

That's not comparable with what they're saying.

They're objecting to the idea that being 'ugly' makes a woman bad or worth less. They've said nothing about people going around yelling at women.

And despite Nea being a collection of pixels, I think it's a fair complaint. I mean, we see a lot of real people as pixels on a screen. Bad thoughts and habits start somewhere.

If you disagree you're free to say so, but I think we should leave it at that. Let people get back to the primary thread topic.

  • @Mr_K said:

Bet it will be back in 5.2.1 and will be the same as it was.

The movies are full of innuendo. No way the license owns care about the memes being made. Instead its building interest in an old franchise.

The first film has sex scenes in it and it's original title was 'Sadomasochists From Beyond The Grave'.

It's technically not impossible they removed the lines because of the sex joke, but I'd say it's really unlikely.

    -

That said, there could definitely still be a non-meme related issue with the licensing that keeps the lines from ever coming back. It could be an issue with the VA, or maybe ownership of the script the lines refer to, or also something else.

  • I'm not buying The Cenobite, but if I was his loss of voice lines wouldn't make me change my mind.

  • I like Midwich's secret stairway.

And I like Oni, Freddy, and Huntress' break animations for them.

    Otherwise? No.

Breakable walls are a really cool idea, but I feel they're terribly implemented. At its best it's a pre-dropped safe pallet, at its worst it's a trap for newer players that opens up a god loop.

    Mostly though they're just pointless.

  • Quentin is a fellow insomniac and he wears a beanie. He's also the best thing from the 2010 NOES remake. I don't care if his perks are garbage or if he looks like a goblin/supermodel, I love the sleepy boi.

Nea has cool lore and she wears a beanie.

Huntress has cool lore; it reminded me of Jason's lore when I first joined the game. She sings a lullaby and she has a fun power that takes knowledge and effort to be consistently good at using.

  • They could more or less fix this by kicking players who don't move their character after a certain amount of time - with Survivors getting a longer time limit than Killers/losing collision when they have one or more crows so you can't grief people by bodyblocking until they get kicked.

Personally I love it overall for it's many little cool details (the RPD basement looks so awesome and the zombie outside the window of that hallway made me giggle for a minute when I first saw it) and unique atmosphere.

But even though I love to see this map, I have to acknowledge that it generally sucks to play DbD on.

I'm sorry I didn't know making threads bringing attention to issues with the game wasn't "important" enough for the forums.

    You should be sorry!

The only threads allowed on the forums are threads that bash the clearly overpowered Killvivor role or beg for the devs to nerf Hex: Decisive One Escapes Time.

    -

Seriously though, this issue is really frustrating.

I've had it happen to me more than once, twice as Ghostface and once as Doctor. One of those the Survivors decided they just wouldn't open the Gates and spent at least 10 minutes goofing around before I stopped checking the TV.

You should submit a report, with a video if you have one, to the bug report section of the forums and describe the issue there.

If they do fix this, it'll be because people help them identify what triggers it.

Ellie would be amazing. If they ever do a TLOU chapter, i just hope they bring Joel too. He could also work as a skin for David maybe. I think a of his perks actually suit him.

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like they'd both fit better as Killers.

I mean, they're definitely both violent enough - and unlike people like Bill or Jill, Ellie and Joel don't generally have very moral motivations for their murder-sprees.

If BHVR could use Ellie or Joel I think they'd be wasted as yet another skin for pallet dropping and generator repairing when they could be a unique character with their own power and play style.

Maybe that's just me wanting a stealth Killer with a bow that utilizes sound cues in order to surprise Survivors though.

  • Only if you're in a SWF.

Solo queue is chock full of Claudettes that will Self-Care in your face.

Don't get me wrong, Second Wind can be strong and useful. But, like many other perks, it's also not reliable if you can't communicate to your team.

Not a fan of legion either, I just think personally trickster is off. So many people rate All kill and binding of kin in the worst chapters added to dbd.

Just read the thread about worst chapters.

I like anime, but I wouldn't mix it with dbd.

People don't dislike 'A Binding of Kin' because they hate the French or think that Twins doesn't fit with DbD's color palette; it's because being slugged until you bleed out isn't fun.

    Same with All-Kill.

I think that chapter's reception has more to do with Trickster being 'Huntress 2.0: now with less risk and less reward' than with Ji-Woon Hak not matching the game's tone or visual style.

As for potential chapters based off animes, I think their success, or lack thereof, would depend on the license in question as well as how the devs handle it's implementation: it wouldn't be resigned to failure from the start.

  • I'm of the opinion that the BP category caps shouldn't exist.

Like, match BP would stay capped at 32000, but instead of that only being when you earn 8k for Survival, Boldness, Objective and Altruism (or Sacrifice, Brutality, Hunting, and Deviousness for Killer) you should be able to earn a full 32k for any mixture of earnings from the four categories.

  • @ShinobuSK said:

More like, the person being chased should get some % of the points teammates get for doing gens while the chase lasts....even time being camped could be dealt with like this

The funny thing is it works this way with regards to pipping - gens worked on while you're chased boost your Lightbringer emblem - and that was a change introduced for the same reason; certain Killers out there would just focus on one person for as long as possible, and Survivors that performed well were effectually being punished for being tunnelled.

  • He needs better add-ons. There are only 7 useful ones, and only the 3 POTD add-ons are strong enough that you're regularly going to notice and go "Wow, that helped me," when you use them.

    -

    Spoiler Spoiler Warning ▲▼

The 6 really useful ones are the ones that increase Torment Trail duration and POTD length. Iri Seal can be useful too, but it's not very reliable.

When you use Rites of Judgement you slow down a lot, so you're best off only using it in short bursts; making the Rites duration add-ons meaningless.

It recharges quickly with basekit and you only need a sliver to use POTD. And again you shouldn't be using Rites for too long at a time because of the slowdown. All of that makes the Rite recharge add-ons pretty superfluous.

The Killer Instinct duration set is useless because almost nobody is going to step into the Trails unless you're actively chasing them and can see where they are.

All the others are just quirky.

Blindness is nearly useless - PH has no special synergy because his cage auras cannot be obscured, Oblivious is an okay status effect, but the add-on only lasts 15 seconds - and again with both of these Survivors generally aren't going to be stepping on Trails unless you're actively forcing them into them. So unless you chase the Survivor into trails, drop chase, and then surprise attack them within 15 seconds you won't get much use from the Oblivious effect.

Obsidian Goblet is just a worse Insidious. Like Insidious it doesn't instantly silence your TR, it gradually reduces it, so you have to stay on your Trails for 3-4 seconds. However if you leave the Trail your TR comes back immediately - so it's only good for camping an area.

The reason Obsidian Goblet is worse than Insidious is because your Trails can't be placed near hooks, gens, or Gates: i.e. the three things you'd want to camp. So you can only camp loops, totems, or dead zones.

The Haemorrhage add-on is an insult. Not only is Haemorrhage a laughable status effect, this add-on will only afflict Tormented Survivors with Haemorrhage.

Tormented Survivors already leave barbed wire trails to make them easier to track - and the barbed wire effects Healthy and Lucky Break Survivors, making it superior. There's zero reason to use this add-on.

    -

I think his base power is fine tho.

It'd be cool if he had some AI buddies - Silent Hill monsters in the same vein of Nemesis' T-Virus zombies - but PH is already a powerful Killer because of how POTD and Torment work. He doesn't need any major basekit buffs IMO.

  • Tied.

I usually love facing Myers, but most Legion games I play turn out like someone turned a slapstick sketch into a horror movie. They're both very fun to face IMO - in general.

  • In the words of Immortan Joe, "MEDIOCRE!"

Self-Care allows a Survivor to heal themselves.

And that can be very powerful. One Healthy Survivor can literally be the difference between winning and losing a match.

The problem is there are like 10 other things that do the same exact thing and they all do that thing better.

Self-Care also tends to encourage bad habits among Survivors; while Health States can be important - gens and hook states are a lot more important.

    - It doesn't matter if you're fully healed if you've spent 32 seconds letting the once 80% gen regress with Ruin while the Killer was chasing your teammate.

    - It doesn't matter if you're fully healed if your teammate goes to second stage or freaking dies because you're busy rubbing your tummy in a jungle gym across the map.

    - It doesn't matter if you're fully healed while the Bubba is munching through pallets that your teammate is desperately using to extend the chase.

Before anyone comes in with anecdotal evidence; yes, Self-Caring can be game changing.

However so can literally every single perk in the game.

Self-Care isn't unique in it's function and it isn't the best of it's kind either. It's biggest drawing point is that it can be used infinitely - but DbD matches usually end within 15 minutes and are often decided in the first 5. A perk that takes over half a minute to be used is usually a waste of time.

It's Mediocre - it does it's job, but not very well. There's almost never going to be a time where you will benefit more from Self-Care than from using an alternative self-heal. BUT you can still benefit from using it in certain situations.

  • I personally hated it because of the myriad technical issues and because of how dull I found the event to be.

Halfway through the event I quit playing and my friend uninstalled - we both had more fun playing other games.

But objectively I think the event was probably just fine.

Nothing great, but also nothing you wouldn't expect from a BHVR event post-2019: a lot of bugs, a few really cool new things, a handful of gamebreaking issues, and a lot of stuff that was 'copy and pasted'.

I find it horribly discouraging and even sad, but I'm sure other people enjoyed it.

And as long as it works out for BHVR, I can't really blame them for doing things this way.

  • Personally, I'm not a big fan of the aura reading it has now, but I also don't want Undying to go back to being a straight up better version of Thrill of the Hunt.

The perk is perfectly fine strength-wise; I'd keep it as is.

"If it ain't broke" and all that.

Oni kills to regain the honor of his heritage. In his lore he only fought those he deemed to be worthy adversaries. It's a bit uncharacteristic of him to pursue those that are definitively weaker than him. I think he is the most likely to be defiant to the entity.

    That's not true at all.

The Oni's whole deal is that he goes after those who are unworthy (the lore behind his power is literally that the existence of bloodlines he deems to be inferior drives him into a rage) - which was originally just Samurai pretenders but expanded to be anyone who insulted him or got in his way.

His father tried to dissuade him, but Kazan refused to listen. He treated his opponents with as much disrespect as he could - and didn't care to differentiate between who was a fighter and who wasn't.

Kazan came from an honorable family line and drove their name into the mud by obsessively trying to prove his own personal greatness and 'restore the Samurai'.

His was so awful his own father tried to kill him to stop him - but he hesitated to slay his own son. And hesitation is defeat.

Read his lore here if you don't believe me.

  • I disagree; clapping and being able to write "Hi" or draw Hearts is easily worth not being able to move your neck vertically.

The Cult of Quentin shall endure, as we always have.

And one day, I know all other Survivors shall bow before the awesome power of Emergency Medkits and Speedo Quentin!

Oh, you'll see, you'll all see!

They have house of pain, I have a basement within a basement.

    Fair trade

    Fair enough.

Overall, I think Badham is a map that demonstrates the differences between good, casual Survivors and excellent, sweaty Survivors.

If the players you're up against know what they're doing and take advantage of it, it can be a really hard map. Not least of which because the gen spread is almost always super cruel.

Badham is actually my favorite map as both killer and survivor

Killer mains over-exaggerate how survivor-sided that map is. Once you've busted the car pallets, that whole stretch becomes easy downs

Does the phrase 'House of Pain' mean anything to you?

    I'm genuinely asking.

  • My first Mori was as Huntress, while using an Ebony Mori.

TBH I felt a bit disappointed - I came to DbD from Friday the 13th, so I was used to gore and over-the-top deaths. Huntress just chopping them in the face and then in the chest wasn't terrible, but it wasn't incredible either.

It did feel a lot cooler than putting people on meat hooks though.

    -

I don't remember my first Mori as Survivor.

  • I think it wouldn't work.

Turning Monika into a generic slasher villain that would fit into DbD kinda completely misses the point of DDLC and what makes the game unsettling.

And making a Monika that's accurate to the experience of DDLC in DbD would be impossible. Like, even if the devs were willing and capable of performing the kind of mechanical overhauls necessary to do it, it would go against what makes DbD work.

    -

The two games just aren't compatible.

  • Because it's easy and does a lot of damage.

Really though, it's because it's effective. Same reason people facecamp; people do what works for them.

And as Huntress, you move slow and warn people you're coming - it doesn't matter what slowdown you use, you can't stop people from just doing gens if they split up.

So people play to her strengths and either slug or proxy camp. Huntress is one of like three Killers that can chase and down multiple people at once, so of course those two strategies are insanely powerful as her.

Obviously, Huntress can win by just chasing people and downing them very quickly; but it's not her most efficient strategy.

  • It's not that I don't like DbD, but if I could choose which one of them got to live and die I would have definitely picked F13 to live.

It was more dynamic and it definitely had the potential to be even more varied and engaging if it had stayed alive. Paranoia, the Virtual Cabins, Jason X, a map based on Part 8 - there was so much that could have been.

Whereas DbD, cool and fun as it can be, has the same base gameplay it had since 2016. Jill Valentine repairs the same gens and leaves through the same Gates that Dwight did 5 years ago. Nemesis uses the same hooks, breaks the same pallets, and brings the same perks that every other Killer does. DbD's going to stay the same until it dies.

I'd gladly trade that for F13 - even if the F13 devs made all the wrong choices and broke everything, I'd personally rather see someone attempt risky greatness and fail than comfortably settle for a reliable mediocrity.
