First thing should be accept Ing that the first gens doesnt really matter. If you cant comprehend this you lack more game sense than i thought. Gen times are perfectly fine. Playing killer is damn easy even without those filthy killer "strategies".

I wouldn’t say easy, but everything else is correct. You have 3 survivors free to do as they will when 1 other is in a chase. Of course the first few gens will pop quick. The game is designed this way. It’s after that first chase, how a killer keeps survivors preoccupied with other tasks, that determines game stall afterward.

A lot of killer’s seem to completely disregard how important it is to slug early in higher ranks. Down someone then find someone else. That survivor is still “out of action” temporarily, and at least one other survivor needs to assist them if they don’t have unbreakable. I tend to hook when I have AT LEAST 1 other survivor on the ground.

No, slugs being revived does not lose the killer pressure. With each subsequent slug, and their bleed out timer reduced, other survivors will more quickly and urgently leave gens the shorter that slugs bleed out timer becomes.

  • Yeah, I’d like to know the specifics beyond an expectation that the game loads faster, and the frames improve.

    Will they implement ray tracing?

Other improvements to graphics other than the map facelifts?

I have around 16 days played and having been in red rank killer for a while I can safely say at red rank most of the players are in swf. Every match if I get a sacrifice (or mori since i play executioner) i get spammed with either messages saying offensive random junk or a bunch of party invites. I get it feels annoying when you lose a ten to twenty minute match in something like dbd but come on, does it really warrant such toxicity such as being offensive to the killer? I have a example of being insulted for getting a kill on someone. my gamerpic on xbox set to a picture of me and I had got a message saying i camped (walk away from hook a lot to keep gen pressure down so I had'nt) then he would ask why i look like a f*****.

But to answer your question. Some SWF teams are very entitled. They believe every match should result in themselves and their friends always escaping. And if anyone dies it’s because (in their view) the killer was toxic and cheating.

So they then feel validated in sending such awful messages.

Not every player is horrible like this mind you.

Just report those players to Xbox. There should be some sort of option to highlight the offending messages and select a report option.

U can have freedom Grand Theft Auto style. But that's not my meaning of freedom.

Ive already said it plain and simple in my earlier post.

    You’re already contradicting yourself.

If there is division on defining what certain things are (because you want the freedom to define your own definitions of things), this is this exactly the kind of thing that starts off societal discord. The kind that can lead to anarchy.

Body blocking on the way to hook. Its so frustrating.

I used to hate this, but now it makes me laugh. It’s surprising how often I’ve managed to down another survivor on my way to a hook, and still manage to hook who I was carrying, making their body blocking attempts and going down for their teammate a total waste of time.

Plus In a clutch a drop is much less punishing than it was before. So funny watching the others panic if I drop who I was carrying.

  • Basement Hag. Particularly the part where you’re damned if traps are set off, and damned if you crouch because Hag is coming back anyway, and there’s no way you and your rescuer are crouching up those stairs in time before she gets back.

General trapping of any hook is scummy IMO, but basement Hag in particular is vile.

  • What are you talking about?!

That whole perk is designed around AVOIDING a mistake, a big one: 3 gen’ing.

I'm just curious. I've seen a lot of people telling other people not to main doctor because he teaches bad habits from finding survivors or something else. He's the second one I'm interested in besides spirit, so like, what should I look out for?

Many players use the Blast to find survivors rather than learn good hunting/tracking skills.

I personally find this too risky/wasteful due to its massive cooldown. I play against many doctors that get zero pay off from using Blast because they just using whenever they’re not in a chase.

Having played Clown as long as I have and learning how to spot/find survivors, I wait till I spot someone first (or in a chase) so I’m 100% guaranteed at least 1 survivor goes up a madness tier.

The tracking aspect of docs power is secondary. The point of madness is to stall the game, and cause confusion (depending on the add ons).

The other claim is that Doc presumably doesn’t teach players how to loop properly as killer. On the contrary, IMO, it’s by a very thorough understanding of loops, and how survivors run them, that Doc is able to master correct timing for shocks to deny survivors their vaults and pallets. Shocks can’t just be spammed for free lucky hits. Doc experiences too much slow down to ever get close enough to the survivor if they repeatedly spam.

  • @Mandy said:

@TheClownIsKing yip my assumption was correct - the close one takes the priority.

    Thank you

  • I did it using just stalk add ons. I focused around quite literally using the obsession as a play toy. Sure they have to eventually be hooked, but if I came across them I usually just hit them and let them run off so that I get my PWYF stack, only lose 2 STBFL tokens, and hopefully get them preoccupied with healing. My focus for the other survivors is getting them exposed while I have PWYF tokens for quick chases, getting quicker with each STBFL token, whilst the survivors progress gets slower due to DL.

    Key points.

    • deliberately use the obsession to build PWYF. Don’t be nervous about regularly hitting them or slugging them to keep them in the game. You quite literally want to save them for last.
    • you want to be set up for chases with other survivors with PWYF when hitting T3 EW. Easy STBFL & DL tokens.

    Make bong 10% louder.

Make bong into an actual bong. Survivors suffer from hindered due to getting high.

  • They can be tough, but that in itself doesn’t make them toxic.

The only saving grace is that these sorts of teams are usually very predictable.

    • there’s ALWAYS someone nearby with a flashlight after you’ve downed someone, and they won’t have been discreet about it either due to obvious scratchmarks or disturbed crows.
    • there’s always someone ready to jump back onto a gen you’ve just chased someone off of. Doubling back sometimes catches whoever that is off guard for an easy hit.
    • There’s always someone waiting by the hook to do a save before you get further than the distance of your TR.
    • They’re likely to regularly body block. This CAN be used against them by tunnelling a random in attempt to draw out who you REALLY want to be pressuring.

Since last Saturday I've been having lots of matches where it seems as though the survivors have ran right through me and i don't know if my gameplay has just gotten worse, if its my imagination or if something is broken. I'm a mid-tier killer, rank 11 and I've been between rank 10-15 for a few months so I kinda know how things should "feel" if that makes sense, and right now this issue of it seeming as though players are running through me is strange but like I said I'm not sure if it's me (Internet connection, just playing bad) or if theres something broader going on with lagging times or whatever.

Anyway if you've noticed a RECENT (because things didn't seem this way 2 weeks ago) let me know please, thanks!

Yes I’ve noticed, and I suspect it has something to do with the tick rate and hit validation being either tinkered with by the devs, or potentially tampered with by hackers (not players within the same match, I mean people like what we’ve seen forcing DC penalties on streamers).

I have a love/hate relationship with Dead by Daylight. There are many things that are fun, while at the same time there are many things that are frustrating. I used to wonder why so many frustrating aspects of the game would seemingly be overlooked, or not given any attention to at all.

That is until I recently saw the interview that Mcote had with the streamer King. In it, he said that the game would never be perfectly balanced because the game is supposed to make you frustrated. 🤨 That explanation now makes a lot more sense as to why so many aspects were never made a priority until recently (matchmaking, moris, keys, perks, etc).

Frustration doesn't make for a good game. If you feel the need to hit something at the end of a match, then the only way that game served it's purpose is if the devs don't care to change anything for the better. If anything it sounds like an excuse to do as little as possible.

I firmly believe that the only reason why we're even seeing changes now is because DBD continues to find a bigger audience. But it's an audience that DBD keeps losing because of said frustrations. DBD is incredibly punishing for new and casual players, and it makes sense for gamers to leave en masse.

Hopefully things do continue to improve for the better. I certainly don't want to play something that frustrates me, especially at the end of what could have been a frustrating day. DBD has a good community of players, and that community deserves better.

I think you may have missed the context of frustration being an intended part of the game.

My guess is that frustration is meant to be one of the parts/feelings of a true horror experience. In all great horror stories, for the main characters and villains things usually don’t go their way or as planned. I think the devs want to have that as part of a gamers playing experience.

    Does this make sense?

Not really surprising that this post turned into such a ######### show.

    Nonetheless it’s still disappointing.

  • It’s funny. Dragon’s Grip has netted me some insta-downs, but not as many as I anticipated.

The perk sounds great on paper, addressing a regularly expressed community concern: “drive by tapping”. I myself would experience that frequently. But now that we have Dragons Grip as an option I’ve stopped seeing this survivor behaviour. Not anywhere near as often anyway. I suppose that in itself is a good thing even if I’m not getting regular direct use out of the perk.

If I were to change it i’d get rid of the 30 second window. Have it indefinite similar to Overcharge till that particular gen is touched again, BUT for ONE gen at a time only. Once it procs and exposes a survivor, THEN the cooldown starts, to keep it balanced and stop it from becoming overbearing and too frequent.

  • (Eye roll)

@MandyTalk this discussion has been “illuminating” in some rather disappointing ways.

    Can this be closed?

I can see this getting out of hand based on the tone and direction this is heading. I’d prefer to prevent that before things get very heated and ugly.

Your field of view is quite narrow, man.

There is as many black male racists, white female racists, asian racists as white male racists. You just don't see them around because there isn't much of that people around you.

This discussion isn’t a “who’s worse than who” discussion, and is starting to lose all context and focus.

Someone said something about gaming culture always being this way. I, as a white male, that has been gaming over 30 years refuted their statement by explaining that gaming culture hasn’t made me discriminatory against anybody that isn’t a white male, and I do my best to also not be culturally insensitive to anybody that isn’t a white male.

This discussion is ABOUT my surprise and shock of a total lack of filters in place for PC players when choosing a publicly displayed profile name, regardless of whatever that platforms code of conduct may be. That a filter isn’t in place for Steam profile names despite many countries enforcing anti discrimination laws that also shape many businesses policies and codes of conduct (and in regards to online gaming, most companies err on the side of caution by putting filters in place) to ensure laws are abided by, is the heart of my concern and what this discussion is about.

It’s easy to pretend that language is harmless. But no major trend, movement, democracy, rebellion, or dictatorship was ever started without language and communication first. A black kid, or teenager struggling with their sexual identity, could be having a really tough time, being bullied or beaten, and close to the edge of self harm. Playing video games online might be their only escape and solace. Except they load into a lobby and see a player that’s named themselves something like “n_____smustdie” or “f_____smustdie”. That could be the final straw for someone already in a very fragile state of mind.

I’m using a pretty extreme theoretical scenario here. But the point is that language has power in a public space. Life is already hard. For some, really really hard. Suicide across the globe is higher than its ever been. Division amongst people has been higher than its ever been, and some places in the world are in big trouble.

If someone is a racist, or sexist (in particular, very derogatory towards women), homophobic, and generally highly discriminatory, then whatever. Some people are beyond being swayed from such a philosophy or attitude. But where that DOESN’T belong is in a publicly displayed profile name, for anyone to see. That will not, and will never be okay.

A username can incite violence? So a word on a screen is violence?

I mean I get u. But DBD is a M rated game. Not to mention u can play the most non violent video game and have 14 yr olds screams insults over the mic in front of 8 yr olds.

u can't control the nature of the ppl. U just restrict minors to what parents deem appropriate.

    Username!

    USERNAME!!!

A username that a player publicly displays isn’t restricted to DBD.

I’m discussing it here though because it’s only since playing DBD with crossplay enabled that i’ve started to see names like this.

It’s funny because I’ve played Doc for ages, and I only just started wondering today about this.

  • They shouldn’t be. But that doesn’t change the fact there are. And who’s to say these jerks keep their profile name that way for other games where it’s more acceptable for kids to be playing.

Also, as I said earlier. Freedom of Speech doesn’t also mean Free of Respect and Human Decency, and it most certainly does not mean Free From Consequences.

Let’s look at this from a different perspective. What if that WAS taking censorship too far? If so, what are the actual positive implications of publicly spreading a message like that: kill all (insert marginalised group of people)? What good is meant to come from freely saying and spreading stuff like that? What benefit to society at large does that provide?

Little to none if you ask me.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1658027#Comment_1658027

Balancing isn't a *finger snap*, ok it's done.

Anyone complaining that nothing is getting put back into the perk itself to compensate doesn't understand the difference between theory crafting numbers and abstract thinking. What you're doing is theory crafting, simply looking at numbers and deciding whether or not something is optimal, beneficial or a negative based on that 1 dimensional assessment. Theory crafting is what you do when you're just looking to compare numbers, when all other variables are held equal. What the OP is doing is abstract thinking, which is what's necessary for game design, because abstract thinking is what you use to run an idea from A through Z.

Thantaphobioa, with it's healing debuff, gives no trade off to doing any particular action, except that healing will remove the effect. Without the debuff, you're shaving off 3 seconds for healing and 3 seconds is a lot to a survivor. 3 seconds is the difference between healing and hiding and healing and being chased again for another 20 seconds. On paper, it looks only like you're gaining a few extra seconds on gens, so why bother healing when you can still do the gens in ~56secs. The reality is it's less risky at 16sec to heal and hide than it is at 19secs, then being chased for 20secs more. Being at 2 health states instead of one is the difference between a 20sec chase for only you and a 20sec chase plus 30sec hook that totals to 2min of survivor downtime (your chase and hook, their walk and unhook). These things add up quickly, so making the decision clear for survivors (heal now) means they are more likely to blow the 16secs healing (taking 32secs total off repairs/other actions for one survivor) than doubling up on a generator to save 40secs (Full thanta).

That fact alone puts the killer in an advantage state, but given entire builds/killers can play around that knowledge and abuse it means that you're going to have more opportunities to catch healing survivors. More opportunities means more time spent disrupting survivors. More time spent disrupting survivors means more time sunk into non-gen related channeling. More sunk time and less channeling on gens means less survivor progression and less progression increases your odds of winning.

This is the domino effect of changes like this, which theory crafting can't take into account. Your suggestion would push generator progression so far back with one perk that it could easily push killer stall/regression builds through the roof, by making it almost impossible to do generators without healing. Mix in anti-healing perks/abilities/status and you have created a lose-lose scenario for survivors.

Thank you. I’m glad someone else gets the implications of a seemingly innocuous few seconds.

  • No, it’s not a slippery slope.

One example is implying/inciting violence towards a particular group of people, and the other example is just someone insensitive thinking they’re being clever.

There’s no slippery slope here, other than the slippery slope of thinking it’s ok that particular people should be killed or physically hurt/oppressed.

And whether the person behind the name genuinely does or does not feel as their publicly displayed name states doesn’t matter. It matters that there is likely to be black people seeing that, some of them kids.

  • @ClickyClicky said:

Its a trash map. Everytime I pick a slow killer I’m guaranteed to get this map. Camp 3 gens or lose, yay so much fun 🙄

Pretty much this. A killer is forced to try and achieve a 3 gen. If survivors repair the middle gen, and one on each end of the map, then they’ve already won.

  • @MadLordJack said:

    Because Valve.

That's pretty much the long and short of it. I don't actually know what kind of company policy they have, but it seems to be the extremely hands-off approach in which you leave people to police themselves and plug your ears to the spread of racism, sexism and homophobia.

It's funny how I can have a name outright stating the horrible things I do to people but the moment I drop an f-bomb I'm on a blacklist. Logic.

    Hmmm... go figure hey...

    I don’t get it.

  • @Orion said:

Although Steam employs a language filter on comments, there's no such filter for names. It's quite unfortunate, but that's why report systems exist. IMO, people who think "kill all [insert slur here]" is funny have no place on the Internet, but I also know many will ignore the paradox of tolerance and defend these people under the guise of "freedom of speech".

They’re usually the ones under the false idea that Freedom of Speech also means Free of Respect or Human Decency, and Free of Consequences.

  • @kaeru said:

I don't like the idea of censoring swear language in names. Steam is not that family friendly. They allowed to publish 18+ games not so long ago.

I understand that N word is hardly forbidden. I live in Kazakhstan. I have seen black person IRL maybe twice in my life and never had chance to speak with them but I completely accept this rule. But censoring this word may cause censoring another words. I don't really like where it is going.

PS. Excuse me, is name Dwight Lives Matter is offencive in your opinion?

Am I personally offended by it? No.

Do I think it’s insensitive? Yes. For the same reasons it is okay to parody the nazi movement, but it’s absolutely NOT socially acceptable to make fun of the Jewish Holocaust.

Making light of BLM with a name like that shows a total disregard for black people in that movement that have been a direct victim of oppression and violence.

There’s lots of.... questionable behaviour at higher ranks.

The other day I was playing as Doc. I’m currently rank 4. Straight out the door these survivors were struggling. I got 7 hooks and 2 sacrifices by the time they got 1 gen done. I was really convinced that they must be really new because they just seemed to always be panicking and not looping well at all.

By the time I had the 3rd survivor on death hook (still only 1 gen done), I took pity part way to a hook and spun on the spot to let them wiggle out. I then proceeded to make it clear I would let them repair and escape. I felt very sorry for how much they were struggling, and I wasn’t using OP perks or add ons (strategy revolved around M&A, Calm, and Dark Devotion).

To my absolute shock on the post match results they all ranged from Rank 5 to Rank 1, with the Rank 1 being one of the dead survivors.

and that's awesome, I do that sometimes as a killer too, sadly it's hard to communicate that to the survivors. I like the challenges and daily rituals. and if I get a 4K I get one but I don't feel I HAVE to have one every game. I've run into many killers as a survivor that just want you dead and it's over and that's what's frustrating. As a survivor I don't need to get out EVERY game too but when it doesn't even feel like game and more of a slaughterhouse that's frustrating.

I’m fairness to killers, that is their objective though.

Sometimes survivors just play recklessly with misplaced confidence, and make it easy for the killer to snowball like this.

  • @Primalux135 said:

All those perks that rectify the mistakes of survivors shouldnt exist.Change my mind

Except sometimes a survivor can become the victim of ANOTHER survivors mistake, at no fault of their own.

You could be unhooked, with no intention of being a troll with your DS, only to find that another survivor kites the killer to your hiding position.

You could KNOW the killer is running Discordance and Infectious Fright, and be trying to immediately get away from the gen another idiot decided to jump on while you were still on it, Billy downs them, you couldn’t get outside of the TR, you’re slugged too, and SUPER grateful for Unbreakable while Billy goes to slug someone else revealed by Infectious.

Sometimes it doesn’t matter if YOU don’t make mistakes. You can sometimes be at the receiving end of the killers knife because of OTHER survivors.

  • There are plenty of ways to play for fun in DBD.

I like to occasionally play basement guard or shack guard, where I’ll wait there until the survivors come looking for me wondering what the hell im doing. I’ll hit them every time they try to enter the shack or basement.

They eventually catch on and it becomes a silly challenge for them to see if they can get past me, and if I can keep them out. I usually laugh my butt off the whole time.

That is incorrect. if you are telling them they were toxic or cheating in game they ASK you for any and all proof you have so they can review it. before dedicated servers they had to get that because they had no data what so ever. With dedicated servers they have access to more information and still ask for video because the more they have to go by the better chance of them making a determination. End Game chat is available to them now and they can act without video proof. I have been told many times I don't need to submit a second report (I do) with screen shots as they have access to it. I have been told by peanits and mclean directly they take action (on their streams) and I got an email from someone telling me that action on my issue has been taken though not what action etc. (that was the only time i got that)

you are incorrect, I have actaully seen people that have had to change their names due to reports to Valve. I have had many times reported names to valve and they have told me they took action but would not divulge what action (as it is private between the person and valve).

yea report those people to Steam. write their names down and do a steam search for them and then report them.

    1) people will change their names, fortnite is not even on steam thus those names won't be seen as you have them, how ever I don't see epic even taking any sort of action due to their chinese controlling parent company.

“1) people will change their names, fortnite is not even on steam thus those names won't be seen as you have them, how ever I don't see epic even taking any sort of action due to their chinese controlling parent company.”

Fortnite was just an arbitrary name I pulled from the air. My point was that they could be playing other games with a broader age range and broader demographic.

  • I think you’re being too lenient.

That person was likely being a troll, and really didn’t care whether you really do or do not have a disability.

And it’s really none of their business either. Anyway, don’t tolerate those messages. If they’re doing it to you, they’re doing it to other players that might be more easily hurt than you. Highlight the message and select that report option.

On another note, kudos to you for overcoming the challenges necessary to do something you previously could not. Hopefully your physical abilities and aptitude continue to improve.

Literally 90% of the Hag player base puts 2~3 traps under a single hook and just patrols 3 gens near that same hook. Even if you approach it crouching she'll simply walk back to it and then what you do? You're on a lose/lose situation. If you crouch walk to not trigger the traps, she has time to get to you and if you trigger the traps it's the same. You can say "just do gens" but as I said she is probably the best killer to patrol gens and hooks at the same time. Unless you're on a very coordinated SWF or you have a purple flashlight with double battery there's not much you can do.

Btw, if you think it's okay for the Hag to trap hooks I also want to put trails with Pyramid under hooks, so I can instantly cage/mori people who are unhooked too.

“Btw, if you think it's okay for the Hag to trap hooks I also want to put trails with Pyramid under hooks, so I can instantly cage/mori people who are unhooked too.”

Agreed. If PH and Demo have restrictions in regards to hooks, Hag needs to be reviewed and given the same hook restrictions.

  • Because it forces survivors to do something other than gens if they don’t want to be found, even though survivors complain that gens are boring, and the only fun thing is being in a chase.

How it works right now: Hex notification and Cursed status icon is revealed as soon as a survivor receives a skill check.

Huntress lullaby is revealed much too easily, survivors typically get a notification in the first 20 seconds of working a gen and go hunt it down without ever having it affect them or their gen progress, because they don't even have to fail the skill check in early game before being notified about it, and no tokens means the skill check notification sound and appearance timings are normal.

How it will work next patch: Hex notification and Cursed status icon is revealed as soon as the killer achieves 1 hook and gains a token.

Huntress lullaby isn't revealed until the first hook is achieved giving it a little more time on the grounds before survivors go hunting for it. Technically after 1 hook the skill check notification sound and appearance timings are shorter, but its such a small change that nobody even notices it until you get 3 tokens, so the devs decided that having a global notification occur as soon as the first teammate is hooked is the best way to reveal that its affecting survivors.

How it SHOULD work (IMO): Hex notification and Cursed status icon is revealed as soon as a survivor fails a skill check.

The entire purpose of Huntress Lullaby is to add 6% more penalty on a failed skill check while making the notification sound and appearance timings shorter so that survivors are more likely to fail a skill check. Due to the RNG nature of skill checks, and how decent players hit them every time regardless of Huntress Lullaby's shorter timings effect, quite honestly it shouldn't notify anyone of its presence until they have failed a skill check and it's started doing it's extra damage. This gives Huntress Lullaby more time to build enough tokens to actually become a problem for those who aren't decent at hitting skill check and allows it to start applying its extra damage penalty. For newer players, this means it will be revealed early on due to their lack of experience at hitting skill checks consistently, but for the more experienced players it might not even get revealed as they will either always hit their skill checks, or they will notice the timings getting shorter and know to go looking for it anyways. The devs once said that Hex perks shouldn't reveal themselves until they affect the players, which is why Ruin doesn't give notification until you leave a generator before you finish repairing it, and Devour Hope doesn't reveal itself until the killer earns 3 tokens and 1 shot downs someone with a basic attack (although I've been told it reveals at 3 stacks the moment someone is injured or goes down via killers power now regardless, which kinda ruins the surprise for killers with damaging powers who were able to avoid revealing it until it built up to 5 tokens beforehand, so I guess that's a shadow nerf intended to make it less of a threat.).

    Conclusion/TL;DR:

IMO, the "Effect" of Huntress Lullaby is the extra damage it does to generators progress after a failed skill check, and not the reduced timings which exist simply to trick a survivor into failing a skill check so the additional damage can be applied. Up until 3 tokens are earned the reduced timing aren't even noticeable, so unless a survivor fails a skill check, they don't suffer the extra penalty to their generator progress and thus aren't affected by it. Failing a skill check is the actual moment at which Huntress Lullaby affects the survivors, and that's why a failed skill check should be point that it's revealed. Not on their first skill check, and not on it's first token, but when it does its extra damage.

I actually think this is a very fair change idea.

No other hex warns a player of what COULD happen, so I think your idea is better in line with how other Hexes operate.
