My friend, back in 2016 2017, there was no Shop, there was no Iredescent Shards or Auric Cells, and there wasn't any player level or divotion levels.

Ah...I think I see what might have happened here.

Did you play a lot in the very early days, then take an extended break until recently?

That would certainly explain the difference between our Devotion levels, if not the difference between what we've unlocked.

It would also explain why your MMR is lower.

Brother just because you don't understand the deep machinations of my plays or builds doesn't mean that I'm bad,

I never purpusefuly dropped my rating, I barely have the game open on passively, I have all characters on level 50 just not P3,

also my profile is a sensible info, what you will find there is my profile, 1000hours on DBD over 100 on Apex, bunch of achievments, Rank1 achievment that they changed to Iredescent

Okay. As I said, I'm not calling you bad.

I'm saying that this doesn't look like a 1000 hour account and thus something isn't adding up here.

    dbd2.JPG

You absolutely do not have all characters to 50. Which made me suspect that maybe you play a lot of survivor...but:

    Screenshot 2022-04-16 105915.png

Your Devotion is only at 13/2.

    Now, here's mine.

    dbd 3.JPG

And my hours played (obviously discounting the 100 or so I have on console):

    dbd 4.JPG

In reality, it's probably closer to 500-600, as I tend to forget the game open in the background while doing other things.

Do you see why this is odd to me?

EDIT: Could it be that you've overestimated your own hours here or made a simple mistake? Do you play a ton of survivor?

That would explain quite a lot about what I'm observing. Once again, I'm not trying to be a jerk - I'm just trying to figure out why we are having such a vastly different experience, if you really do have 1000 hours in the game.

Wait, hold on I never said that I can 4k everytime on top MMR, are you crazy?

Also what do you mean I look rather new? What kind of statement is that? I have roughly 1000 hours and I'm not that desperate to bring op perks every single game..

And again, as for the Trapper, I never said anything about 4king top MMR,

I said that I always get potato survivors and 4k every game, and that it's not fun..

Yeah, something doesn't add up here.

You've got 1000 hours and are still crouching around the map as Pig, running both Thana and Devour (why? That's not a non meta build, that's a build with an anti-synergy). You don't even have all the perks unlocked at tier 3, and you own maybe half the killers in the game. I've got less hours than you do and I've got every single killer barring Billy and Twins to 50, with almost every perk unlocked on them and that's with a ton of BP dumped into survivors to unlock perks.

The survivors you're facing are exponentially worse than the survivors I face which is also odd. Either MMR is bugged for you, or there's something else going on here.

Again - not trying to be a jerk, but are you dropping your MMR purposefully? Do you mostly play on survivor or something? Does the game sit open for extended periods, adding to your hours? Because...this doesn't look like the gameplay of a 1000 hour veteran killer at all, either in terms of your play or the survivors you are facing (seriously, all base skins and they don't even have full T3 perks).

If you don't mind me asking, what's your Steam profile called? I'm finding a John Wick, but it doesn't have any DbD played recently. Just trying to get to the bottom of this little mystery.

@DrDeepwound yea, but in 2 hours (limit time before refunding is refused), you will almost certainly be camped at least once because low mmr killers use this strategy a lot.

@StarLost if you were not happy with it, you had enough time to leave: within the 2 trying hours, you could easily have left the game if it did not please you, because low mmr killers camp you almost certainly got at least one.

@GoshJosh I never said that, but at this point there are so many cheesy strategies that give easy wins on both sides that this game is not really skilled based.

    I'm happy with it.

    See - that's the thing.

If people don't like something, they tend to just return it.

If people like something, they stick around and suggest ways to improve that thing.

It’s extremely difficult to punish reckless facecamping without punishing all other forms of camping, which is why it has been taking BHVR such a long time, as well as scrapping every idea they’ve tried.

I agree, it's a difficult problem to solve. The best I can think of is some sort of automatic unhook/BT if a killer remains within the proximity of a hook for a certain period - and they'll be warned if they are getting close to that penalty. Of course there would have to be ways to prevent survivors from abusing this and just leading the killer around hooks during chase, but it's a start.

The thing is - it needs solving. It's absolutely miserable to get facecamped, especially when you have limited time to play and it happens multiple times in a row.

    @[Deleted User] said:

The title is poorly written but I agree with the post. Players trying to turn DBD into a "skillful" game is cringe.

    Why?

DbD requires a lot of skill on both roles - at least a hundred hours to even start really grasping the game at a fundamental level.

And I say that as someone who comes from a Starcraft/Starcraft 2/HOTS/UT2004 background as a gamer.

  • Yup.

800 odd hours on killer, only very recently started seriously trying to learn the survivor role (before now, I just did dailies).

  • @slunder said:

@StarLost I think you are in the wrong game. You do not enjoy strategies that take no skill and are more of a cheesy gimmick, I recommend you try literally any single player or coop game & competitive symmetrical game.

Dbd is a party game, the winning strategies in it were never meant to require brainpower or anything like that.

Is it a party game? I'd like your source on that one, because that's not how it's played or how the devs seem to want to balance it (ie. they do want to balance it). Party games tend to be nonsense RNG chaos with very limited, short-term appeal.

It's an APvP game. A team attempts to beat a solo. Nothing about that suggests any sort of automatic 'party game' classification.

If a 'cheesy gimmick' as you put it allows one player to basically grief another player at will (facecamping is basically a way of denying one player the ability to play the game for an extended period) then that gimmick needs to be changed. Party game or no party game.

This honestly reminds me of the people who complained about getting banned from Among Us and Fall Guys for hacking, saying 'lol it's just a party game, why are you taking it so seriously?'.

Even if it's a party game (it's not) - it should still be balanced in a way that's fun for everyone.

  • It's a fun build, but I find IAE to be a bit of a wasted slot. I'd rather throw Retribution into the mix (the aura reading on this one is bonkers strong and it pairs nicely with Penti) or ye olde Discordance (imho the best information perk in the game).

After a certain threshold the only easier killers are perkless rookies. Win two of those and you'll be back into a loser streak.

That hasn't been my experience at all, as a killer main who's just starting to learn survivor.

Taking the last two whackadoo days of MMR testing out of the equation, for the most part my teammates are somewhere around my skill level and even though I definitely escape more than I die, I'm not suddenly facing 2000 hour Nurses as a 50 hour survivor - aside from the occasional game where someone dodges a lobby and MMR poops itself. If I just dodge lobbies where everyone is readied up when I get there, I tend not to get these much either.

  • @slunder said:

Dbd is not a game of skill, it is a party game. The devs themselves do not fix the cheesy strategies. It is a chill game with gimmicks you can use to try to win, but at the end of the day it was never meant to be for skilled players. Even mmr reflects this (survivors can hide all game, take hatch and become high mmr). The game literally rewards no skill strategies. Why are you even here if what you want is a skill based game when it is a chill party game? This game is meant to have fun, relax and enjoy some funny moments and memes. Here is a list of games that fits you if you are competitive and do not want to lose for something unrelated to skill:

-Literally any single (or mostly single) player game, like Dark Souls 3. In these games, the only player who influences the outcome is you. The same can be said about coop games, since the enemy are just artificial intelligence bots, you will always have a way around their mechanics if you think hard enough.

-Any competitive game like Fortnite or League of Legends. These games were designed for strategy based gameplay and have as little cheesy strategies as possible, or if they are some, make them possible to counter.

There is no point in insulting a killer for using a strategy in a game that was designed for it. Besides, if you insult the killers, it can entertain them or they can block chat & profile messages. But if every survivor that does not like being camped leaves dbd, then the devs have no choice but to change it to save the game (because killer queues might get really long, there are a lot of survivors that hate being camped). But trash talking killers will not bring you anywhere.

    Eh.

I won't insult the killer, but camping is still zero fun to be on the other end of, especially if it's a Bubba, a Ghostface, a Trickster or a Myers.

If a survivor hides all game, they are going to get AFK crows and be destroyed.

MMR isn't perfect, but it's far better than it once was.

    @SuzuKR said:

The only way to “fix” camping would be to fundamentally redesign the game. It is a strategy this game is balanced around that devs themselves acknowledge and support.

There's camping and there's camping. The devs want to get rid of facecamping and I support them in that - so long as it doesn't break the game.

Same. I don't mind the sweatiest games possible. But the matchmaking is so insanely frustrating on survivor. I routinely have games where I do 2 or 3 solo gens while my team does 1 gen between all 3 of them. Solo players are often impossibly inefficient.

    Definitely.

But on the other hand, I also sometimes get paired with amazing teammates who basically carry my butt.

It's the luck of the draw.

    @TransverseCaster said:

It's a race to the bottom. You get bad teammates then you lose. Then because you lost you get worse teammates.

    Not exactly.

You are paired with survivors of a similar MMR, but there is also a component of matchmaking which compares your average team MMR to the killer's MMR.

If you're losing games - you will also be facing less skilled killers.

Lol. Are they? And when? After they do something about the grind?

No idea. They tend to move slowly, but they do implement most of what they say they will. As far as we know, the first step is going to be a robust system of status symbols for solos, allowing everyone to know if someone's doing Pinhead's box, doing a gen, being chased, being camped, going for the unhook etc.

My guess is that you'll see this in the anniversary update.

why cant we give her some special bonuses against male survivors? her lore explicitely states that she kills men and kidnaps little girls. i think she would behave differently to survivors of different genders. not to mention that bill is a soldier and she kills soldiers.

now the bill situation would be too specific, but an interaction with the sex of the survivors would be cool and something we haven't seen, differentiating survivors and making them more than skins. without changing their mechanics. i know there are no "little girl" survivors but they're still female, and she never sees females, only soldiers. i assume she would treat them differently.

now for her perks, they're pretty bad. in her lore, we see her ambushing a group of soldiers one by one. so territorial imperative could give her undetectable when she's near shack or basement.

by the way, her lore is very inconsistent. her original one says the she kidnaps little girls, ties them up, and just watches as they rot away, not understanding that they need to be fed. after her mother died, she lived alone in the woods with no human contact becoming basically a beast.

(in the trials, you would imagine that she slugs/cripples female survivors so that they can't run away from her, and just watches them die slowly. could be a mechanic with slugging that's waiting to happen, perhaps making them "drain" faster, while making male survs die faster on hook.)

but in the tome entries, she exhibits pretty complex properties of language, and also judges the soldiers who kill eachother because "that's not the way you kill prey, they're wasting the meat" basically meaning that from a hunting perspective killing eachother is not efficient. also implying that she very much understands that people need to eat to live.

im missing a couple of entries but idk, looks like she got basically retconned. from beast to just a regular sociopath. sad because it was much more interesting before.

i mean in general, they probably changed writers about 2 years down the line. whoever writes the tome entries must be the same person, because they have all the same style of short burst, emphasising repeatedly the same thoughts, sort of like a stream of conciousness by james joyce.

i posted this in general discussions cause no one browses the lore subforum, but if the mods think it fits more there then feel free to change it.

    This wouldn't work.

Let's put aside the ethics here (BHVR would never do this, they take pride in being extremely 'progressive') - it would be silly from a mechanical sense as you're talking about a killer that has a power based entirely on RNG and survivor choice. You'd just see savvy Huntress mains lobby shopping for all male matchups.

    Yes they do.

What is "haven't been playing all that much" for you?

As i often said, this forum seems not very representative for newer to mid range players.

A bad player will not reach the higher grades. At a point he needs to do some things in the matches to pip.

I'm not a good player on survivor (I've got maybe 50 hours total). I'm a decent killer.

I'd say I play 2-3 hours a day, 4-5 days a week. Sometimes more, sometimes less.

Last month was the first month I ever seriously tried to learn survivor, and made Iri 3 (almost Iri 2) in less than 2 weeks. It's incredibly easy to pip up to Gold III-II even if you lose most of your games.

all games are easy until you verse swf cause they have comms and you legit can't beat that

Eh. I've beaten SWFs. They are certainly more difficult games, and SWFs need an additional look matchmaking wise - but they do have weaknesses. Generally altruism.

Throw on your best build and addons, use a green ward if you have one and you can probably give them a decent run for their money.

  • Okay, I just watched this. Keep in mind that's this isn't what I asked for, and doesn't prove what you claimed (you can easily 4k top MMR survivors every game on Trapper, and that anyone who can't is bad).

    But...let's take a look.

Game 1: Evidently a somewhat experienced Nurse derping around with quite new survivors. You didn't show the endgame screen (mind snapping a picture of that and popping it into this thread?) but they're all base skin, not even trying to juke you and just holding W mostly.

Game 2: A much better game, Survivors are a bit more skilled, but still don't seem to have any idea how to loop effectively (that David was...painful to watch). Out of interest - how many hours do you have? Because you're Pig build doesn't make sense to me at all and (not trying to be nasty here) you also look rather new.

Conclusion: You're either smurfing your MMR down between games or are somewhat new yourself. You're facing evidently very new survivors (all of them are using base skins, even when they are trying to build meta they have no idea what they are doing - I'm confident that I could have run you better and I'm a terrible survivor). But at the end of the day, while this was a fun watch, it's again - it's not what I asked for, and doesn't prove or disprove your assertion regarding Trapper.

they should, this hurts new players.

if a new players comes to the game and have to verse a swf who are all red ranks and hes a ashe hes gonna uninstall.

    Uh, no it doesn't.

I was a new player under the former matchmaking system which used ranks, and SBMM is much better.

Ranks meant that, especially the first week of the month, I'd be facing people with hundreds or thousands more hours than myself.

    @EvilJoshy said:

As many have stated, grades mean nothing when it comes to MMR. However, MMR also means nothing when survivors are waiting long enough. If a swf is in que for a long time the game will throw the first unfortunate soul their way just so they have a match. Fairness be damned.

Survivor queues are pretty much instant for most of the day unless you are at an absurd MMR, and even then it will gradually expand the parameters to find you the next best match it can.

The weird matchmaking scenarios are mostly caused (from what we know) by lobby dodges, which causes the system to basically grab the next person in line.

    @Marc_123 said:

    Grades still show a lot.

This is just another case of MMR is not working as it should.

Do they? Maybe during the first week of the month. I'm already Gold III on killer, and I haven't been playing all that much.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2906088#Comment_2906088

    That wouldnt work.

If a 3men SWF gets inflated MMR, what do you do about the 4th survivor which is solo? They also get inflated MMR and go against a better killer because they were unlucky to get paired with a 3men SWF?

Yes. But their MMR will be taken into account too, meaning that the killer will be a lower MMR than if it had been a 4man. Essentially, including the inflation, the average MMR of the survivors should be approximately equal to the average MMR of the killer, to ensure that the killer has an approximately 50% chance of killing each survivor.

Yeah, the only really bizarre day for me during the test was I think Day 3 I had a match against four Iri 1 survivors. That’s really unusual, normally at least one of the players isn’t Iri 1. It might have been a squad but even then I can’t remember going against an all Iri 1 swf.

Honestly, by the end of the month nearly all the survivors and killers I face are somewhere in Iri. All Iri shows is that you've played the game a fair amount that month.

If you're running into Iri 1's the first week of the month...that's probably a dangerous group.

  • @dugman said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2906088#Comment_2906088

I suspect one of the things they were testing in those MMR trials the last couple of weeks is regarding 1) above where they were tweaking how the system handles MMR for swfs and also handles choosing a killer when survivors are a mix of lower and higher rated players. That’s why one of the days, for instance, everybody was seeing matches with all the survivors being relatively really high MMR, they probably were doing a test that time where swfs were rated as the rating of their weakest member (so three 2000 rated players with one 1000 rated player becomes a 1000 rated group). And another other day it was the opposite with much lower rated players,

That was Day 2 and Day 3 for me, which were mostly really good, close games. I hope that's where we end up.

The final two days were complete chaos.

What do you think should be done for killers to be able to have more changes against 4 men SWF then? Because if something is done about that, solo survivor becomes even worse than it already is.

This is why I think solo survivor needs to be compensated to a point it is close to SWF level, so then killers can be buffed and balanced accordingly.

I agree that Demo is really loud, but I don't think Demo's anti loop it's pathetic.

As for Deathslinger, I think he had the same unfortunate ending that Hillbilly had. Only a single thing needed to be changed (in Deathslinger's case, I think the only thing he needed changed was a sound cue when he points his harpoon, same thing huntress has when she lifts up her hatchets), but BHVR decided to look too much into it and change things that no one had an issue with.

    1. As other games do, assign SWFs a temporary inflated MMR based on the number of people in the group. 2man SWF = 1.1x MMR. 4man SWF = 1.6x MMR. Something like that, to offset the power that communication provides.
    2. Indicate SWFs in the lobby, but give the other side a pretty hefty BP bonus (say...+25% for every survivor in a SWF).
    3. Buff solos communication wise and buff killers accordingly (it looks like BHVR are going this route).

Demo's anti-loop isn't great. Shred is mostly used to zone survivors (it's ridiculously easy to juke) or as a gap closer outside of loops. What makes him decent is shred+mobility, and his honestly pretty sexy addons.

Agreed on Slinger. He got the Freddy treatment in that a few small changes would have sufficed, but they instead hit him everywhere he was fun.

New players get matched against experience killers and viceversa sbmm or not so this excuse doesn't make any sense, some people like you wants a challenge every game and i get it but majority of the playerbase doesn't want it and as result is leaving the game

Sure, they do - sometimes (mostly due to lobby dodges, which is being fixed). But usually not.

It's not just me wanting a challenge.

It's me realizing that if I'm having an easy game, the other side are having an impossible one. And that's going to make people just stop playing.

Show me where the majority of the playerbase doesn't want MMR?

The game is experiencing a fall-off, but is that because of MMR, or because the game has simply peaked? Correlation does not equal causation.

  • @Piruluk said:

This the main reason that the majority of killers can't do anything against 4 SWF. The survivor simply can take away the killers power, this design failure is very apparent with Sadako, her teleport can be turned off by survivors, her curse stacks can be reduced, she has lullaby to warn survivors, she has to demanifest which takes long time before attack. In short Sadako can be reduced to nothing.

Another good example is One or Demo which often called the most balanced killer by survivor mains, actually almost no one plays them. Oni has no power at the start and before can get power he has to hit a survivor which can take very long time at high level play, but even then he takes eternity collecting things on map before gets powerup. Demo portals can be sealed, his stealth is pathetic announcing every moments of his with loud sound, actually anything he does is so loud, its made so that survivors knows his position all the time, his anti loop is pathetic.

Or take the poor slinger, never had any map pressure, now survivors demanded to made him even more useless, no stealth, counterable gun.

    Uh...

    @GoodBoyKaru said:

Every killer should have counterplay because this is a video game and video games should be fun, fair, and balanced.

Everything survivors have and/or can do should also have counterplay, because this is a video game and video games should be fun, fair, and balanced.

X being too strong means X should be nerfed, not Y brought up to X's level. Y can still be buffed, just not to the extent of X.

Honestly, this summarizes exactly what I wanted to say.

Things without counterplay are unfun. A CoH on top of Eyrie's or IWOM's main structure, or the RPD library are unfun - because the intended counterplay doesn't work. Thus CoH needs a nerf. Post-buff Boil Over could make survivors completely unhookable, and the only counterplay was hard slugging and camping. Unfun - thus nerfed.

Sadako needs a significant buff, but she still needs to have counterplay.

Demo is a well designed and balanced killer, rarity aside (and that rarity is mostly due to unavailability not power - Hags and Twins are vanishingly rare, but far from weak).

Oni isn't rare and is actually one of the stronger killers in the game. He's just very difficult to play well.

Slinger is far from weak, he's just clunky. He needs his old TR back, for starters.

Oi use your brain for 1 sec and think hmmmmm MAYBE we could just have random matchmaking OR go back to ranks BUT have the ability to turn off swfs

    No thanks.

Ranks was essentially random matchmaking and it was awful.

SWFs are annoying and I wish the matchmaker would account for them, but your suggestion would make it impossible for SWFs to get games.

    @BenOfMilam said:

I want the chaos and insanity back. More importantly, I want the fun back. MMR does not work in this game since if you pick the a mediocre killer and don't bring meta perks and you go to a poor map, you just lose at high MMR. Period. Like your skill is functionally irrelevant. Kind of like playing against a good Nurse or old Deathslinger; doesn't matter if you're good or not, you're getting hit and going down.

M1 killers like Wraith are pretty much unplayable against good survivors. If they drop every pallet as soon as they get to it, chasing them will lose you the game. If you're doing sneaky hit and runs, but they have CoH or four medkits, you lose the game. If they're doing both, well, you lose.

This game just falls apart when everyone is playing sweaty. Since winning matches pits you against sweatier and sweatier players, you have to adapt and play like them or you have to accept that you're going on a losing streak until you can have fun again. MMR would be fine if this game was fun at high level, but it simply isn't.

    Why?

'Chaos and Insanity' generally means 'new players get rolled over and over again'.

MMR does work in the situation you are describing, just maybe not how you think. If you're playing at a high MMR on those killers, the system thinks that you have a roughly 50% chance of killing each survivor there on that killer. Whatever MMR bracket this is will likely be higher on your Nurse main than your Pig alt - but the challenge should be roughly equivalent.

I agree that the 'C' and 'D' tier killers need a buff, but that's a different discussion.

The CoH nerf and Hem buff should help against the healing meta somewhat.

And yes, if you keep winning, the system will pair you up against stronger opponents until you hit the '50%' sweet spot. I'm not sure what's wrong with that.

The SBMM system has problems - but it sounds like BHVR are well on their way to fixing them (just at their usual glacial pace). Even factoring in those problems, the game has felt far more even since the switch over from ranks.

Just curious to see everyone’s main killer build for most/every killer. I personally run Corrupt, Deadlock , Blood Warden and No Way Out, my go to build for a high MMR on every killer.

    It depends who I'm playing.

I generally don't like blocker perks as they tend to backfire later on, but I'll run CI on Hag and Trapper to give them time to set up.

On killers with good sustained mobility (Wraith, Spirit, Demogorgon etc.), I run CoB+Pop+BBQ+Discordance or CoB+Plaything+Pentimento+BBQ/Discordance. I also like the latter on Plague and Cenobite.

On killers with setup, I run CI+PR+Agi+BBQ/STBFL.

On killers with secondary objectives, I like PR+Plaything+Pentimento+Discordance/BBQ.

On Nemesis I like CoB+Pop+BBQ+Discordance (the CoB noise attracts zombies).

On Myers and Ghostface I like CI+Surge+Discordance+BBQ/Devour.

On most others I go PR+Agi+Starstruck+FoR/BBQ

of course I know they need the specific hook, I’m not an idiot, and In the games I’ve played the killers seem to have no trouble getting there most of the time. Your suggested counters are useless, especially since we can’t tell which hooks are scourge anyways. You have convinced me of nothing.

Shrug. Fortunately, reality exists independent of your opinions.

You don't know the hooks right off the bat, but you can take note of which are white when you/someone else is hooked and until you know, just let go of gens before someone gets hooked.

This is one of those situations where I say go play a few dozen games as killer with PR. See how often simple RNG, absent any effort from the survivors, makes it impossible to use those hooks - especially on maps like Swamp, RPD and Eyrie.

No, the same as always. So...too many.

The only thing that annoys me with DC as a Killer Main is it makes game unfair for the rest of the Survivors who are willing to play. I then can't play my game as it feels like a cheap win to me personally. I would suggest if your going to give up at least give up on Hook that way the game can continue as per normal. But yeah just a suggestion anyways.

This. Oh man, I hate it.

On survivor, it means we now get to lose slowly unless the killer is feeling charitable.

On killer, it means I either need to hold back (not fun) or wipe them out (not fun, and I feel bad).

I would love it if BHVR had bots to replace the missing person. At least when a killer DCs, the game just ends there.

MMR makes every match a pain, everyone is salty and every match is the same thing, same perks and same strategies, it makes everything boring

    Or...we could...not?

The SBMM system is a million times better than ranks. I started under ranks, and it was miserable as a newbie.

If the SBMM system is making things sweaty at high MMR, then it's working. Because if high MMR isn't sweaty, someone new is getting stomped.

People have always been salty in postgame.

Yes, high MMR in most games tends to have an ossified meta. That's the nature of high MMR play. People optimize.

Now, I'm not saying the system is perfect. But from where I'm standing, it's certainly better. And we're going to see some MMR tweaks soon, which hopefully improves it futher.

The system isn't designed to give you easy games, it's designed to pair you up against someone with roughly the same level of skill. Which means that you'll need to fight for the win.

  • @JamnJelly said:

On either side, what do you believe should constitute a win, or a pip up?

Pipping up, as others have explained, has less to do with winning or losing and more to do with time investment.

In terms of MMR, I'm okay with the way killer works.

Survivor...I think needs to be more nuanced, but it's really complicated. What exactly constitutes 'winning' as a survivor?

so, a perk where hooking just 1 survivor initiates 2 powerful regression perks isn’t OP? How is that even close to being true? You don’t even need to use both on 1 gen, you can simply go pop a different gen.

Not at all. It's not just 'hook a survivor'. It's a 'hook a survivor on these specific hooks which may be nowhere near you'. It's got a huge RNG component to it.

PR also has extremely reliable counterplay.

    • You can sabo.
    • You can bodyblock.
    • You can avoid going down near a scourged hook.
    • You can release gens before someone gets hooked (I can do it and I'm a terrible survivor)
    • You can play around DMS

In order to make PR work, you essentially have to dedicate a spot to Agi. And it's numerically inferior to Pop. PR is basically a big boy Surge. It's for killers who need to minimize downtime.

Killers still beat SWF. It is only the very good ones is there a tussle.

While I appreciate the devs trying to help solos, and it might help a little but that doesn't help completely. SWF is only good because really good survivors team up together to have that advantage and know each others. Randoms are still going to lose, because the team effort you are talking about is too high.

Perfect balance can't be fixed with asymmetrical. The best you can do is make it balanced for somewhere in the middle so at least solos have a chance to win.

Not from my experience. I'll see a survivor on morning 1 and beat him. I'll see the same survivor in a 4man on morning 3 and suddenly that coordination and information sharing means I get mauled.

SWFs should be treated differently for matchmaking, but that's another discussion.

I've also done a few SWFs off Discord, as a fairly beginner level survivor, and it doesn't take much skill to call out 'okay, I've got PTS', 'don't bodyblock, using Styptic', 'go down on pallet, I'm near', 'hey, killer heading to shack' or 'I'm being chased in main structure'.

Solos are getting help. Let's see if that's enough before we throw the baby out with the bathwater.

If more help is required, I think a tweak to the SBMM system to account for the delta between SWF and solos would probably do the trick.

  • @rangerdanger0 said:

So when are we going to nerf/balance these perks? With them both combined, the killer gets a 40% regression on gens. We get all our perks nerfed but we can't get a balance on some killer perks? All killers run these days are those two perks together, talk about meta perks.

    Lolwut?

Both of these are extremely limited and carry a lot of risk for the killer. Pop requires you to physically go over and kick a gen before it expires, after hooking someone. PR is RNG on hook spawns, sometimes an additional spot for Agi and again, requires a hook. They both have viable counterplay.

The only perks you've had 'nerfed' recently was a design oversight that allowed people to take games hostage and a blatantly broken nightmare perk that allowed duos to literally heal mid chase. Neither had viable counterplay.

If killers are running hard regression perks as meta, it's because that's what's required to win right now.

    @JamnJelly said:

Gen rushing has been brought up as an issue, and I think this might their idea of a solution. If both sides can push the speeds in their own direction, it's okay.

It's not just 'genrushing' (ie. a SWF stacking multiple toolboxes and PTS to just slam gens out faster than they can be killed), it's more an issue of survivors now being savvy enough to make their first chase last a very long time, during which time the others melt gens.

I think BHVR thought televisions will give second objective to survivors and this will make game slower. Like Pinhead's box or Pig's traps. But problem is televisions are not threat for survivors, good teams are ignoring them.

If televisions gives second objective to survivors (make televisions threat for survivors), i think she will be better. And yeah, i agree. Art team is carrying DbD so hard.

It's a bit more than that.

    • I see people turn TVs off sometimes. The problem is that there's zero threat to doing this - if you cleanse a Demo portal, you're Oblivious and he can detect you. Pinhead - Oblivious+teleport. Pig's traps - ...Pig sucks.
    • The rest of her kit sucks too. Her stealth sucks. Her 'flickering' is mostly useless.

Only as a SWF. As solo in a regular public match it isn't possible. If it was the "easiest" competitive role why is that I'm almost always seeing survivors losing and killers winning?

I think it is way easier for killers.

    So?

This game isn't balanced around solos. It can't be, because SWF is a thing and killers also need to be able to win against SWFs.

BHVR are aware of this issue, and are giving solo survivors substantially more tools to coordinate and will be buffing killers to compensate. And they have numbers and stats that we aren't privy to.

If you're always seeing survivors lose - remember that the survivor role is a team role. Now - bear with me - what is the common denominator across those games?

It is sad but you are right. I saw more Sadako than Pinhead and Artist. Sadako had more hype and more players. But BHVR found way to ruin it.

Sadako is such a well done killer from an artistic perspective, which makes it all the more galling that her execution mechanically was so terrible.

  • @IsMmrReal said:

You know what REALLY grinds my gears? The fact that when I play survivor I get the most total potato randoms I have ever seen in the history of DBD. Now I would say my MMR is up there because I usually play with some friends and we def have an 85% escape rate on a daily basis. But When I play killer I get the most efficient survivors in the world. Here is an example... I play wraith with 0 Gen defense I get 5 hooks and the games over IF IM LUCKY. I play survivor I get team mates that die to a huntress lullaby freddy!!! This is down right NONSENSE!!!!

    Okay, keep this in mind.

If you're winning a lot on SWF games, your MMR is going to be inflated.

Groups are paired together based on a number of factors, but from what we know, the average MMR of the group is taken into account, as well as the MMR of each member compared to the MMR of the killer.

You could be getting placed with weaker players because the system expects you to be able to compensate.

You could simply be getting placed with very high MMR killers, and they've just dominated your teammates.

You might also have run into lobbies where someone dodged, which apparently breaks the SBMM system.

    Who knows?

  • @ThiccBudhha said:

I have hope that the game will make it, but you know, this anniversary is shaping up to be relatively lackluster, and Sadako couldn't bring them to the green, so they really need to pop off. I bet she would have turned things around, had they released her as a viable killer. She did a good job considering she is borderline unusable.

    @jamally093 said:

Every match it's just high skill survivors one after the other I don't think I can find anyone who still has hope that this game can make it.

I remember playing in 2018 I was new and had fun playing this game I didn't get bad matches or anything now it's bad matches one after the other more cheaters then ever and just so much BS the reason me and most people play is the money we spent I have a fragment of hope for this game.

I know people will be like just play survivor or turn off your cross play I don't because it'll take way longer to even play a single match.

The game had a colossal spike on the last anniversary and it could be that it's simply peaked - we'll see a similar boom this time and another gradual fall off, tapering off around this time next year.

What's going to determine my future with the game is what the grind solution is going to be, what the facecamping solution is going to be, Onryo getting buffs and MMR fixes.

Pre-mmr streaks are pointless though. Pro Vengeance got a hell of a lot higher than a 50 winstreak as killer pre mmr too. But the reason Otz wasn't able to do this without changing the win condition and intentionally finishing the streak without mmr is fairly obvious. It is the very nature of it. All of these content creators are NOT capped as they imply they are which was obviously evidenced during Otz's 30 second no perk challenge. But to get a 50 winstreak, you literally have to cap your mmr.

He's also been beavering away perfecting his Artist, and she's not far off S tier power wise.

Like...he got 30 odd under SBMM. He'd probably have gotten the 50 eventually.

They've said before that killers have different MMRs on multiple occasions. I think one of the threads is still on page one of these forums...

  • @jamally093 said:

Simple MMR doesn't work for killer because their all different so they need to make an MMR that actually fits killers properly because I'm sick and tired of deal with high skill survivors just because I did one good match with a different killer.

    ...Wut.

Okay, firstly - every killer has their own MMR. The only thing that's hinky is the MMR of new killers being tied to the MMR of your highest killer, not the average.

Which yes - if it's still the case - is very dumb.

Secondly, it's prime-time. SBMM breaks down during prime-time. Wait for the MMR tweaks or get ready for every match to be a potential sweatfest.

I watched that streak in real time and Otz has...honestly come pretty close to mastering birb lady.

Incredibly impressive, took him a long time to do that - but it is tarnished somewhat by the MMR testing he got the streak during.

And no, the Artist is what all killers should be based around balance wise. Aside from her meh addons, she's near perfection.

Hag is just a solid killer on any smaller map, but she's also an anomaly (like Nurse) in that she doesn't really rely on chasing people around loops much.
