There actually were (and probably still are) a few devs that irregularly stream themselves playing the Game in their free time.
Iirc Almo and McLean used to but both have left BHVR for quite some time now.
And don’t forget, there are a lot of different devs that work on DbD. And most actually can do their Job just fine without being a pro or even playing the game at all. And there will be all Kind of different skill levels among them
McLean works at bhvr again. I think he returned last year.

They can make it look a bit better but the movement has to be snappy.
These realistic stumbles and slower stops and turns are ok in single player games but not if i want to be fast and precise.
There was a reason most players did not like the changes back then.
Considering how allergic some of ya'll are to fundamental changes made to the game in general, it doesn't surprise me that a good number of people on here hated it.
However there were also a good handful of players who liked the changes back then on other sites, who weren't part of the forum echo chamber on here.
Regardless, i'll take immersive over snappy any day. I'm tired of seeing Survivors awkwardly turn around, due to some people insisting on keeping the animation jank for a competitive advantage, that almost never actually works.
-
@Marc_123 said:
I hope they remember to NOT change the movement.
It may be a bit unrealistic but the movement has to stay right.
We will see if the graphics will really look like the announcement because the specs for this have to go up quite a bit i guess.
Also it is the completely right decision to not make a DBD 2 but just update the existing game.
They absolutely should change the movement to make it look smooth and natural.
I don't care if it makes it harder for Survivors to spin the Killer. bhvr should have kept the updated locomotion parts the first time around, and the fact that they removed it in favor of keeping the animation jank was stupid as hell.

The only marvel or DC Comics related stuff i'm even remotely interested in is Hellblazer and The Wake. The rest i'm not even remotely interested in, especially any mainline Marvel or DC Comics characters.
-
Modding + the fact that bhvr got a seperate team (not the same one that's working on current DBD) on the side to rebuild the game almost from scratch to fix the code and allow for the announced overhaul stuff, new mechanics and more.
Yeah, this game is most definitely here to stay for good.
-
According to Mathieu Cote in a post-anniversary interview, they have a seperate team on the side (not the same team that's working on current DBD), that is currently rebuilding the game almost from scratch.
Perhaps once they finish, we'll get stuff like what you're asking for.

Art's power according to Slasher Radio's post-anniversary interview with Mathieu Cote, will be brand new and will involve something around Art having different tools. His gore and mori is also stated to go beyond what we already have in the game.

It's probably dependant on the Killer, as they have different methods. Survivors are resurrected by The Entity too so I'd assume so, but Cenobite does genuinely steal the survivor away so.
Cenobite does genuinely steal the survivor away so.
That's only an assumption. We never actually see Survivors end up in hell and the tally screen says they're dead, with them ending up at the campfire everytime, so it's impossible to be 100% sure if Pinhead actually sends Survivors to hell, or if The Entity is simply tricking him into thinking so.
After all, The Cenobites are not beyond being deceived by others, like they have on multiple occasions throughout the Hellraiser movies. Plus, The Entity is the one in charge of its realm, not Pinhead, so we cannot take his words and insinuations as facts. Especially when The Entity can change Killer powers and tamper with items to work differently than how they're intended to. Such as it did with Pinhead's box, The Lament Configuration.

It doesn't matter if Scream's Ghostface calls his victims on a phone. DBD's Ghost Face doesn't act like Scream's Ghostface because he isn't supposed to be like Scream's Ghostface.
Making him closer to that of Scream's Ghostface isn't an improvement, it's just going against his established characterization in the game.
Also Ghost Face doesn't use a phone during his mori on any of his cosmetics, it was only during his PTB that used a phone at all.

I don't know about no horror or fantasy, as other big name authors have contributed to both genres long before Lovecraft's time.
However, Lovecraft is most definitely the godfather of cosmic horror/Lovecraftian horror, and we most likely wouldn't have had that specific horror subgenre be what it is today without him.

Honestly, I think all of them. The gameplay reflects the original Killers well, but the ones introduced come from films where deception is a key factor and their victims use everything in their power to survive until the end. In game, it tends to be more about cheese 24/7. It would make for the most unsatisfying film to watch ever.
Using Jason for example. He never makes himself fully known until the latter half of his films. He isolates his victims and picks them off one by one. Deaths are surprising and brutal, until he gets down to the wire and the victims begin exploiting his trauma or other weakness to gain an advantage over him. Sometimes they even scare or confuse him. However, in DBD he's going to down someone, come back to the hook, tunnel, and get a 4k without a lot of effort. At this point, it's just the same old garbage with a different coat of paint.
Jason only does that in part 2 to 4, the whole ''first person camera slow burn isolation kill until reveal later on'' gimmick the movies used was dropped entirely in part 6 and onward, letting Jason instead go straight to the killing immediately.
-
None of them. The only one to me that kinda don't really feel like their source material counterpart is Freddy, however i don't count him since i frankly don't care whatsoever about the remake version of the character.

Also the people who complained on an almost daily basis on the forum about Deathslinger's original ADS speed back in the day, would disagree with it not being a big deal to bring it back.
Current Deathslinger may not be the mindless fun OG Deathslinger was to play as, but it's definitely more fair and now actually requires skill to get a hit now.

You're giving a huge benefit of the doubt to a team that hasn't earned it. A change that affected none of the meta builds on either side while nerfing niche fun builds for both sides is "healthy" SURE.
"Don't think! Just consume product and get excited for next product!"
Except some of said niche builds were also overtuned and unhealthy for the game, stacking 4 of the same effects together to a ridiculous amount is not good for neither the balance nor the health of the game, no matter how subjectively fun you may think they are.
Also at least i'm not a reactionary with a hostile attitude towards others who don't agree with me.

Then maybe they should stop doing things that people hate.
Also, I don't remember them ever testing hard caps. I only remember them removing haste perks from stacking with each other at all.
Or maybe people should learn to accept that some changes are necessary for the health of the game (not haste stacking removal specifically, just in general), instead of throwing a fit and proclaiming that ''nobody asked for this'' whenever something gets added or gets changed that they don't personally like.
Also i guarantee you, the people who hated haste stacking removal will also hate hard caps too.

At the current state, gen rushing is annoying, but it's a valid strategy. This isn't a horror game anymore, it's just e-sports tag. Make maps pitch black and make flashlights actual light sources, not just weapons. We need the horror back and actual jumpscares.
At the current state, this game is a party game, so don't try to overbalance. This never meant to be a comp game so don't make it one.
Too many perks. Implement 2v8 perks system and ditch every characters specialised perks.
BHVR had one chance with the Springtrap and they blew it. You don't see Springtrap players anywhere and his abilities don't fit the character and the franchise. Survivors most of the time just ignore cameras and security doors so you are just worse huntress. Also map traversal isn't that great either.
This game looks absolutely awful in graphical way. Some of the killers walking animations don't match their walking speed, why are survs still massaging the air when healing someone, survs running animations and anatomy look absolutely awful, the generators and their repair look absolutely awful, hanging on a hook is horrible to watch, and most of the MORIs are outdated. Is this the best you can do with UNREAL ENGINE 5?Too many bugs.
Skill checks are boring.
Too many wannabe comp players.
Licensed chapters are carrying the game. BHVR relies way too heavily on horror IPs to keep the player base active.
I don't know why I play this game.

Nah, it wouldn't.
And on the topic of voicelines, another controversial opinion of mine is that voicelines were a mistake to put on every new character.
The only saving grace they have is that only you hear your own, with the exception of Orela who runs her mouth every 5 seconds.
I am of the opposite opinion that voicelines is arguably one of the key features to making characters actually feel distinct from one another, and that keeping them silent is exactly what makes them just feel like reskins.
The biggest thing that could make them feel truly unique to one another, is if bhvr gave every single one of them, their own custom skeleton rig and base movement animations.

I don't know if a company that exists to make money doing things that make them money is exactly a conspiracy. They're not a charity or a crowd funded passion project. I expect them to follow money and nothing else, as with any company.
Yes but it's amply apparent that Wesker's unfair advantage through bugs remains, yet they didn't kill switch him again. He's slated for more fixes with the next chapter, but how many weeks is that on the loose, phasing people through solid objects?
They're not a charity no, however it not only feels assumptious, but also kinda disingenuous to claim that they're exclusively leaving original characters to rot, while being much more focused on mainly fixing licensed characters, solely just because the former makes them less money than the latter.
When Bandwidth, difficulty in fixing some bugs over others and prioritizing certain Killer bugs to fix first over others (licensed and original) are all important things that would very likely be factored into their bug fixing process.
Plus we've seen them do stuff that doesn't make them money.

Worthless because with that, every survivor is just a skin. No other reason to buy any one of them, just cosmetic.
It already is kind of a problem, and by detaching perks from characters, you might as well only have Sable for example and no one else.
I feel like the issue here comes from a lack of personality from the Survivor characters. It's why i play characters like Alan Wake who actually feel like a character of his own, and not just a reskin.
If bhvr were to focus on giving Survivors a complete aesthetic upgrade, with full on voice lines and voice lines that reactions to different things, menu music, custom trial start animations and so on, this would fix the issue.

I'm not really arguing IPs are more original in design, more that they receive more care.
The one-and-done has been a recent issue, I mean. Krasue and Houndmaster specifically. It doesn't help that these killers aren't very popular anyway, so there isn't much motivation. They're not truly one-and-done, nothing is, but the fixes they get often seem to not work or to be of no substance.
What I mean, though, is also how bugs are treated. Houndmaster has had long time bugs that make her borderline unplayable if they trigger. Legion had a bug that benefited him, and he got killswitched for it (and rightfully so). Now take Wesker, who was also killswitched for bugs that benefited him–and then quickly came back with the bugs still intact. It's ridiculous he's still grabbing people through walls and whacking them well past range at vaults. But if they were bugs that hurt him, I'm sure he would have been fixed very, very fast. People won't tolerate the super popular characters (many of which happen to be IPs) being out of commission long. And it's logical to assume Wesker also still steadily sells with newer players who don't have him yet. I don't think they're buying Houndmaster. Some killers are low priority because there's no reason for them not to be.
Houndmaster is only unpopular because of the bugs plaguing the dog, not because she's unfun. Krasue on the other hand, was only played because she was initially overpowered, but people fundamentally just don't think her playstyle is fun to play with.
Normally if bhvr brought a killer back with bugs still intact, it's usually because they thought that they had fixed the character.
Again, i don't believe that there is any favoritism in terms of who gets fixed fastest based on popularity, only which bugs are easiest to fix, while other bugs are not as easy to fix. Frankly, any talk of bhvr doing x or y because something does or does not make them money, always just sounds like something akin to that of conspiracy talk.
Ultimately however, the only one who knows for certain what their bug fixing process and priority looks like is bhvr themselves.

That's my point, being left to rot is for originals. They could fix Houndmaster's bugs, they could make Krasue less lame, but they don't because there's no money in it. IPs don't come out this buggy. Henry has a few bugs but nothing like Houndmaster, and she's been around a hot second now. They don't get the hardest nerfs on earth either. Henry got some small ones, Ghoul is still dispised a year in, but Krasue got blasted. They kinda one-and-done a lot of the originals. I wish they cared more but I don't see the same level of effort in them. They don't make money, so why bother?
Most licensed characters' powers are also neither truly original nor pushing the technical envelope in what the game can handle. Most licensed characters are relatively safe in their implementation, as bhvr is not really trying anything they haven't done before in some fashion or form through other Killer powers.
It's less about them fixing original Killers not making money, since that basically applies to the entirety of the game and fixing it, and more about bandwidth and some bugs being harder to fix than others. It's why Twins has a similar issue in fixing bugs related to Victor.
Also i don't think it's true to say alot of originals are a one-and-done, when it's only really some specific outliers that are that.

I think original chapters are far better than the licenses they bring in
If you mean better quality-wise, I want to agree with but I just can't. I much prefer when dbd has its own voice and I wish they'd drop adding licenses entirely at this point, but it's hard to deny that modern dbd puts more effort into IP characters than originals. Compare recent killers like Henry, Springtrap, and Ghoul to Krasue and Houndmaster. The IPs are more creative, more fun to play, and better thought out. Five of my ten most used killers are from IPs. Three are from ones I've never interacted with ever, one is from a movie I thought was garbage, and only one is from an IP I like. The five killers who are originals are older ones. IP killers are just better nowadays, even if you don't care about the franchise.
tbf, Houndmaster's main problem are bugs with the dog, and Krasue got shafted hard because of the anti-tunneling features that originally was supposed to be added alongside her chapter, in that same update. Only for it to never happen and causing Krasue to be left to rot by bhvr.
Also Houndmaster's power is similar to Twins, in that the dog is completely unique from a technical and originality standpoint.
However i'd argue that what one considers to be of higher quality nowadays, mainly comes down to whoever you ask.

I see what you are saying. Legion's track always felt more like their POV than ours. I think it fits the violent delinquent archetype they're going for and would work as a motif for them were they to have a film/series they were a part of. As for inciting dread? I suppose it's not particularly scary, but the theming makes up well enough for me, especially as DBD isn't really alll that scary after a couple dozen hours aside from incidental jumpscares.
At the end of the day though, Legion as a killer design works, but when you stop and consider what they actually are, any theme that tried too hard to take itself seriously would loop around to being sillier than the more self-aware bop they got. They're a bunch of teenagers. It does work as a Killer POV track sure, and they might be a bunch of dilinquent teens, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't give Survivors a reason for running away from them, like any proper chase track should make you want to do as a Survivor in such a scenario.
Also scary =/= horror, yes they're connected to one another, but they're not the same thing. As one is subjective, while the other is objective. DBD may not be scary to alot of people, but it still is objetively a horror game at the end of the day, and all the chase tracks should reflect that.
Honestly if i could, i'd make Oni's ptb chase track his Killer POV track, while keeping his live chase track as what Survivor hears from their POV.

Caught my attention with this one. Most of this is fine, but what specifically about Legion's theme doesn't fit? That one always kinda worked for me.
The purpose and point of chase tracks in horror movies and games is to instill panic and dread in a situation where you're being hunted by something or someone who's out to get you and you need to get away from that danger right now. That's the entire purpose of horror chase tracks.
Legion's chase track however is essentially party/dance music. It may sound good to listen to on its own and is in-character for Legion to have, but it doesn't elevate the chase situation itself that a chase track is supposed to do, and as a result, it doesn't work for the purpose it's meant to serve.
-
- Alot of Content Creators are clearly biased, and despite acting like they're not, all more or less serve as one of the main sources that causes people to act tribalistic in the community.
- Wesker & Legion have the least fitting chase tracks in the game.
- The All Things Wicked chapter is the single most overrated chapter which popularity is solely carried by its initial marketing.
- The Myers rework is not nearly as bad or out of character as people claim it is.
- If reddit and twitter has taught me anything, it's that a big part of this community absolutely despises actual hot takes or anything else that truly deviates from the popular opinion.
- DBD should get rid of 25% of all perks, remove their ties to the characters and only add new ones, when it actually brings something meaningful to the game.
-
Nobody except Horror Inc. knows the full extend of what they can and cannot use, however what we do know is this.
- Horror Inc. (originally founded by Sean Cunningham and has been run by the Barsamian family) has the rights for all the movies from part 2 to part 8 and their content, as well as the international rights for part 1. They also have the rights to the adult Jason character & F13: The Game itself.
- Victor Miller owns the US rights to part 1, thanks to the US Copyright Act of 1976.
The two above joined together to form Jason Universe, which is the copyright bhvr has licensed to get Jason into DBD.
- Meanwhile, Paramount owns the distribution rights to all the Friday movies from part 1 to 8.
- While Warner Bros through New Line (which they have a long time ago turned into one of WB's movie studio subsidiaries) owns all the Friday movies after part 8. They also owns the trademark for the Friday the 13th brand name itself, and they also own the trademark for the full name of Jason Voorhees, at least in marketing and branding.
Here's the thing however, Jason Universe basically exist solely just for Horror Inc. to circumvent Warner Bro's copyright of the F13 franchise, to avoid paying them royalties. And since Horror Inc. owns F13: The Game, they're working together with GUN Interactive to use all the content inside the game to work around WB's copyrighted version of Jason, so that Horror Inc. can use them for things like merchandise.
What Jason Universe is doing related to DBD and crossover however, is that they're essentially rebooting the Friday franchise and Jason as a whole, with Greg Nicotero's Jason design being the default design of the character from now on.
Which means nothing directly and explicitly from the original Friday movies can be used or mentioned directly. That's why there's basically nothing from the movies in DBD or any other games that are licensing from Jason Universe, because there basically is nothing to work off on with this version of Jason, as he has no lore.
Once projects like the Crystal Lake prequel series airs, then this version of Jason will get new lore connected to him.
As for cosmetics, the closest we'll get as of currently, are original cosmetics. Whether they're inspired by the existing movie designs or not doesn't matter.
Also despite all the add-ons being obvious references to events that has happened in the original movies, all of the descriptions are written in a vague and indirect way.
TL;DR: Everything from part 1 to part 8 is within the rights of what Jason Universe can use, however because JU is focusing on rebooting the franchise, it means neither bhvr or anyone else that collabs with Jason Universe are allowed to use any existing movie content whatsoever.

I really like Nurse's mori and how understated it is because I feel it matches her lore/character so well, as well has her whole breath-related theming.
Maybe it'd be a bit more believable if it ended with a crunch because she snapped their neck, but I also feel that'd undermine it a bit thematically. Asphyxiation sadly takes a little bit of time to accomplish, and Nurse has places to be, busy lady that she is. I'm gonna say it's a reasonable sacrifice of realism so we don't have a full 60-second Mori.Nurse stroking her hand across Survivors' faces got that same ''take away power from the victim and asserting dominance over them'' feel to it, as when serial killers hushes their victims when killing them.

Suspense of disbelief only goes so far, lol. A Stevegull who just screamed at me for 10 minutes while continuously running will drop dead if he has to hold his breath for 4 seconds. Wasn't getting hacked at with a saw or impaled by a hook (after which he screamed at me for another 10 seconds while on hook) that did him in... Was that 4 second period.
He for sure got up and walked away the moment Nurse left.
We just got a mori where the survivor gets disemboweled, then lit of fire. I think we can update the oldest ones. Not asking for more gore, just saying the mori should PROBABLY be more violent than the gameplay that came before it.

The most important thing of a mori is for it to be thematically fitting to the character it's for. Making it more violent just for the sake of it, doesn't mean it'll automatically be better. Dracula's default mori is a perfect example of less being more.
It's why i hate DBD mobile's moris, as they made all the Killers they were for feel out of character, whenever they performed them. They were all just over the top for the sake of it.

Thats good and all, but we can STILL update the super tame ones. I promise you, the nurse NEVER killed a single survivor by choking them for 4 seconds. Kate, the singer who undoubtedly has great lung capacity, is just fine.
More gore for the sake of gore =/= better mori. Sometimes less is more and all moris should fit the characters they're for. Although i don't think anyone would complain if Trapper, Wraith & Hillbilly all got their moris updated.

I mean, it's pretty common for strangulation in fiction to not be representative of how hard it actually is to do so in real life. Also suspense of disbelief and all that.

Were already there though with other killers. You have SOME killer moris being quite colorful like Deathslinger's, then you have Trapper and Wraith who's mori has me questioning if the survivor is playing dead.
Moris are at most still tip-toeing the line in what they can and can't do before the risk of being banned in certain countries rises.
There's a reason we still don't have moris that causes decapitation, limps being severed or just Terrifier levels of explicit gore.

I do wish the animations and character models were better. I understand they’re limited by the game engine but it would be nice if the graphics were on par with the latest Mortal Kombat game so we can have fatality level moris
I'm pretty sure fatality type moris would just get the game banned in certain countries.

It is very unlikely, yeah, but i still kinda hope for it.
There isnt really any recent statements from him that suggest it isnt possible and if you look at his older statements (haven’t seen all of course) then thats also kinda outdated, as he was speaking against the visual portrayal of violence in videogames.. but having watched the first episode of the Welcome To Derry Show… Uhm.. DbD doesnt seem more graphical or violent than that?
And this is the 10 year anniversary, we have gotten licenses that were said to be almost impossible (Alien and I think Fnaf at some point?) in the past, Stephen King and especially IT are truly significant in Horror.. it would be cool and kinda not completely impossible?
that said, its still unlikely, and no one should Set themselves up for disappointmemt hereThere also isn't any recent statements that suggests he has changed his stance on video games, and you need to remember that bhvr have tried obtaining a Stephen King license for the last 9-10 years by now, all to no avail.
Also Alien was never impossible according to bhvr, they were just waiting for when they had to tools to adapt the franchise. Plus, it's worth pointing out that they had already had a working relationship with Disney for years, even before DBD, as they've done work for hire jobs for other companies, with Disney being one they've done games for multiple times now in the past. They still do work for hire to this day also.
