  • hi! demogorgon main here. i'd be happy to offer some input if that's okay! :0

currently, mr. dumpling boy (still can't believe you called him that oml) is in a decent spot and doesn't really need any changes as far as when it comes to both his power, abilities, and add-ons. each aspect of him serves a purpose, and overall keeps him in a super balanced spot. when played right and with survivor information in mind, he can be super detrimental to even the most strongest of teams.

with that being said, i'm gonna go ahead and break down your post, since some of these ideas do actually have me interested!

CHANGE 1: FREE UP AN ADD-ON SLOT

Increased movement speed while charging Of The Abyss from 92% to 101%.

    • Reworked Rat Liver
      • Recover 0.5 seconds faster after destroying a pallet or breakable wall with Shred.

i can see why this would be needed when applied to very, very specific chase scenarios, but i think a change like this would immediately make him broken when giving him the ability to close distance that quickly. demogorgon faces a speed penalty when charging his secondary power due to how quickly it can close the distance on someone, and with how strong it is, needs to give some form of a chance with certain tiles and map styles. this power is also meant to be used with intelligence, rather than being used blindly. shred is more-so of a zoning tool than it is for clearing pallets or trying to play loops like it's the 100m olympic race. xD

not to mention, there's a significant amount of perks that help him catch up if the penalty is really that detrimental. for example, play with your food, brutal strength, fire up, spirit fury, or other pallet-denying, loop-stressing perks can make up for this.

all in all, it really boils down to exactly how you play him. i personally don't see this change being necessary as a result of this.

    CHANGE 2: RIP STBFL

    • Shred now counts as a basic attack.
    • Recovery time for striking a survivor with Shred decreased from 3 seconds to 2.25.

a quality of life change! i like it! not many people address the strength that STBFL gives dumpling boy, so i applaud you for keeping it in mind.

but this, unfortunately, would also be immensely broken. both a cooldown and allowing STBFL to become that strong will make it near impossible to gain control of situations as survivor when you're in a chase. as i've addressed in my previous paragraph, shred is meant to be a zoning tool and to be used smartly. this will give players the incentive to use shred blindly, and could either make or break a game on extreme levels when that perk comes into play. not only that, but this heavily effects other perks too, and can harm the demogorgon's ability to use certain perks. having the versatility of being able to use a basic and non-basic attack is quite crucial for him with certain builds.

i do like the idea of recovery time being reduced by .75 after successfully landing an attack, though. it wouldn't be that significant of a chance, and perhaps could create interesting scenarios when you have the ability to shred multiple survivors in an area (per say, if multiple survivors are near a generator or a hook and they attempt to split off. that sort of damage would be quite scary indeed.)

CHANGE 3: SNEAKY SNEAKY INTERDIMENSIONAL DUMPLING

    • Portal traversal sounds can no longer be heard globally, only if you are within 24 meters of his departure location or 8 meters of his target portal.
    • While Undetectable, The Demogorgon's footsteps are silenced.
      • Survivors who are oblivious will not hear the Demogorgon's Footsteps.

oh no, that's way too busted. x(

demogorgon is a powerhouse when it comes to stealth and being able to show up unexpected 75% of the time. noise notifications are crucial when going against a demogorgon due to how fast he can catch up to a survivor if they're not careful. there needs to be some form of middle ground between him being stealthy, and him having some form of a counter, especially since he has add-ons and perks that easily modify his undetectable status and teleportation speeds and cooldowns. you're essentially creating a mini scratched mirror myers who's able to pounce on people from long distances, and has the ability to traverse the map at breakneck speeds!

    CHANGE 4: THINKING WITH PORTALS

    • The Demogorgon is no longer required to stand on top of a portal to travel to a portal.
      • Traversing the upside down while not standing on a portal will incur double the cooldown (28 seconds) and takes longer to do (3 seconds).
    • Removed "Breathing" sound effects from the upside down traversal SFX.

now this change, i definitely love the idea of. though i don't see how or why it would need to be implemented, as the surplus amount of portals you can add through add-ons can apply more pressure and attack angles, it does add a lot more fun when it comes to using brainpower. i like a good thinking game at times!

as for the sound effects, again, audio cues are important! keep this in mind when referring to his traversing abilities and how things can affect it.

    CHANGE 5: CREEP

    • When a portal is activated by the Demogorgon, it begins to seep the Upside Down into the surrounding area.
      • The Portal's oblivious/tracking radius increases by 1 meter every 6 seconds, up to a maximum radius of 24 meters, starting when the portal activates.
        • This means it takes two minutes for a portal to expand all the way.

    [excited demogorgon noises]

i've always loved the idea of things slowly being dragged into the upside down in this manner. it'd apply about a quarter more of pressure and gives demogorgon more stealth opportunities.

though, as much as i love this idea, this can actually be more of a counter to portals than anything. portals can have their own individual purpose, such as being able to get a head start on a loop, herding survivors, bodyblocking (on rare occasions, similar to hag), pressuring people off generators, being a key to getting across incredibly large maps like swamp, and the like. giving demogorgon's portals that level of exposure can pose problems, because it'll force survivors to cleanse them much, much faster, and can easily ruin his pressure game if he has to constantly replace them. demogorgon's portals already have a cue as it is, whether its audio and faint visuals, or effects that are applied to the portals if survivors are in range. it's a little risky to mess with something like this. x(

overall, i genuinely like your ideas, and i see where they're coming from! some can add potential, while others can destroy. but with demogorgon being in a decent spot as he is, i don't think a lot of these changes would be necessary, or could easily make games way more challenging than they should be. demogorgon is a killer that requires brains and, more often than not, patience, and when played right, can pose a serious threat to very strong teams. it'd be much, much better to keep him as he is!

Demo is my first choice when it comes to killers that are deperate for a buff. He's just a stomper clown and telegraphs all of his actions. No need to look behind you, you can dodge his attacks blindly.

to be fair, the noise notifications are desperately needed when it comes to versing a demogorgon, due to nature of stealth when using his portals, and being able to pounce on survivors. his versatility with stealth perks makes this even more important.

also, being able to dodge his attacks blindly is a bit of a stretch. even a partially decent demogorgon can still land a good shred! it's just a matter of patience and them not blindly using it, since it can penalize someone if misused. ^^

  • i'm actually rather interested in knowing myself. a part of me wants to say no, because i've mained him ever since he came out and essentially mastered him, so i don't see anything really work reworking, add-ons included!

but, i may just be biased and play him efficiently enough that i don't see any chances needed. who knows. x)

i just personally think he's in a really decent spot and doesn't need anything buffed, nerfed, or changed.

  • as i've mentioned in another thread, i run anything and everything on killers since i love mixing around my builds and playing with non-meta perks.

i personally think that legion benefits the most off of perks that allow them to slow down generators and quickly cut through obstacles. so i advise using perks that assist with chase and affect generators.

one of my most recent builds was brutal strength, spirit fury, thrilling tremors, and play with your food.

my previous one prior to it was a ninja build i love doing on most killers (aka the "ew, get this terror radius away from me") build. it consists of trail of torment, furtive chase, dark devotion, and any other perk of choice, mixed with add-ons that effect the terror radius.

  • yep, there's quite a few maps that have erroneous hitboxes or invisible objects on the reworked maps. i definitely notice it when i'm playing as demogorgon and i'm attempting to stay tight to corners.

it's a little bumpy, but it doesn't entirely prohibit gameplay, so it's not that bad! i just hope it gets fixed soon.

  • it depends on what parts of the community you're specifying.

going off on a hunch and assuming you're talking about the highly passionate side of the community who genuinely wants things fixed? i'd say that the game would be slightly better! there's been a lot of genius features and ideas i've seen over the years, so i'd be nice if some of those could be implemented in some form or fashion. however, i can see why they haven't been added.

    now, if you're referring you all of the community? i think this game would be a bit more of a mess, unfortunately. there's a lot of clashing ideas that people have, and some ideas and features that have been brought up were solely because of bias or because a small chunk of people didn't like something/can't compete with it. so i think it's just a matter of picking the right options. ;w;

  • as a long-time certified™ demogorgon main (i played him ever since he came out and never stopped LMAO), it saddens me to see that he's one of the lower picks. when you play him right, he's a genuinely powerful killer with his zoning abilities and is capable of keeping up with high level play if you know what you're doing. his add-ons are also quite useful as well (at least all of them are to me. i'm the type of player that uses any and every perk, so all the add-ons are viable imo), despite many people saying that they offer little-to-nothing to his gameplay. they actually serve really great purposes!

i can never really see him needing a buff or a nerf, honestly. he's perfectly in the middle, not weak nor overly strong, but that's probably just me. x)

i just wish he was a bit higher in the list.. it's rare to see another demogorgon online nowadays, and sometimes i feel like i'm the only one that genuinely enjoys him and plays him all the time, despite that obviously not being true. it's just that empty type of feeling i suppose.

overall, i definitely do wish that there was something to give the incentive for people to play him! he deserves much more credit and attention than what people see him worth.

this is the most clever post i've seen in a while. LMAO

  • don't worry! false reports are generally ignored, and the staff cannot take action if there's no evidence to back it up. they'd have to both send an in-game report, then send a ticket with video evidence of you "wallhacking".

they're just calling your bluff. you'll be fine. ^^

yeah some game modes could be ACTUALLY more fun than what we have now and needs balance, that's why I suggest the tests in PTB

right, and i understand that. but the playerbase split, the fact that it'll take away from the base game, and balancing problems still come into play no matter which direction you take it in. ^^'

  • as much as these ideas sound cool, the problem with implementing different game modes is that it has a chance of taking away from what dead by daylight actually is; a 4v1 asymmetrical party game.

on top of that, you'd have to worry about balancing across multiple different modes because one little change to an item, for example, can become incredibly overpowered when used in a different setting.

you'll also have to worry about possible playerbase splitting. matchmaking and queue times will shift drastically depending on playerbase preference, and it could become problematic for the default game with a lack of players if people find more interest in a different mode.

there's just a lot to be considered! i'm not trying to shoot down your ideas, i'm just informing.

  • i mean you have to consider that he's also a bitter old man. xD

  • i think it's just a little bit harder to get the map because we have so many map variants for the same location, and it's one of the one-off maps in the rotation. x)

  • as a demogorgon main, i approve of this message.

Aimbot wont work on it because it wont predict the survivor will go.

oh i know! which is why i made my comment about it.

it was such a ludicrous assumption by the survivor that accused me of using it. XD

  • i once was called a hacker when playing as demogorgon and was accused of using "wallhacks" when i both knew exactly where people were at the time with portals after every hook (without bbq! just instinct, im a demo main xP), and how to maneuver indoor maps and cut people off.

also, apparently i use aimbot with my shred.

it was. quite an interesting discussion, to say the least.

  • maybe someone wanted to continue to celebrate? x)

I played with another killer and it still happened so you can relax because it's not a bug for PH only, btw I love it too

that's good to hear! hope i get to hear it while playing against really talented people soon. :D

  • personally, i'm unsure myself as i just returned today, but i hope it's not actually a bug and that it happens every time a person plays as PH! it's a super nice touch and i love it.

  • nothing wrong with a bit of a challenge here and there! if they wanna try their hardest to win with the new killer, let them!

  • i don't mind them! it's a nice break to me and helps me with challenges that are too difficult for me to pull off. it's also fun messing around a little bit before actually getting into a serious game.

  • i main demogorgon as killer! i don't really have a survivor though, but with who i've played often, i'd say dwight!

Because Im not blindly agreeing with you that seems to be a survivor tactic. Propose an undeserved oneside nerf, come up with a weak argument to try to justify the nerf, completely disregard any argument against your points, then insult the other side accuse them of not trying to have a conversation because they dont agree and ignore them.

I'm not talking about those other things, I'm talking about moris.

And you're arguing in extraordinarily bad faith, so we're done here. I feel like I'm arguing with a 15-year-old or something.

Can you explain Forever Freddy to me? I've returned last month and haven't seen much of his builds. What exactly does it do?

"forever freddy" was a build that consisted of ropes and swing chains, as well as various slow-down perks to bring the game to a hault through injuring survivors or them going to sleep. ^^

  • @Seanzu said:

I mean, it's ok to dislike a perk but I feel we should refrain from telling people how to play or what to use.

    exactly this!

  • honestly yeah! i'd love to treat his power like i'm making funky potions and concoctions like a mad chemist and see what the color outcome would be! as frustrating as clown could be, it would be a fun little thing to have.

  • Lets not turn this into a keys vs moris thing, please. I'm trying to keep this thread true to its original topic!

  • @Joelwino said:

The entire purpose of moris was to implement a cool killing animation for each killer into the game. The purpose of moris was not to give you an advantage. Now that we have perks like Rancor and Devour Hope, I don't see a purpose for moris in the game. And if we delete moris, then killer rank will be more accurate since some killers won't be boosted by overpowered offerings. Moris are annoying, because they unfairly rob you of your chances to escape. There are lots of times I would've escaped a trial if not for a killer's Ebony Mori. If Mori offerings were to stay in the game, then they should only let you kill people on death hook to keep the imbalance to a minimum.

I agree with you on the intention of moris, though I'm still completely unsure as to whether if it's really the only purpose, as there's 3 levels of mori's to begin with! (cypress, ivory, ebony, they each have different functions).

However, what I don't exactly agree with is killer rank boosting. I doubt moris have that much of an effect due to them giving a slight "death" penalty. You aren't exactly sacrificing a survivor, but rather killing them instead, similar to letting a player bleed out. There's a death score, but sacrifices are more valuable and are rewarded more. From what I've seen from testing a 4k ebony mori game, you really only get up to a "brutal killer" status if you use the mori early. I don't think this applies to ivories or cypresses much due to the fact that it's only 1 survivor death, the rest of your score is based on player time. BUT, that's just me! ^^

  • @SurviveByDaylight said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/155192/maybe-they-should-get-rid-of-map-offerings

Maybe get rid of Mori Offerings. Anything survivor sided gets complained about but nobody addresses the strength of Killer items. Survivors have map offering strength (odds are better at 4-1) which is still useless. Survivors don’t have good offerings that impact the game like killers can. They can only gain additional bloodpoints. They have a tree branch that can be countered with Putrid tree branch. What do they have that killers can’t counter? Map percentage chance? But killers get Mori’s? Where’s the survivor counter for that? There is none.

map offerings 😂 yeah okay. Everyone deserves to have an impact on where to go. Maps that aren’t being played as much due to vast number of maps available. I think it’s necessary.

i don't mean to be rude, but moris and killer items in general have nothing to do with map offerings. you might want to save that statement for another topic. ^^'

now, for my take on this; map offerings are in everybody's control, therefore it's going to have pros and cons. "randomizing" maps and keeping it random could impact how certain perk builds are set up for specific maps for both sides. as someone else stated, this can make it boring relatively quickly.

i would propose an idea to set up ways to do matchmaking search options similar do how other games do it; you set up your preferred way to play and search for players similar to your ruleset, just so this could give people an option to play with random maps or allow offerings to run their course, but that risks splitting up the playerbase.

  • i think it may be because surge isn't used too often (even though it's an underrated perk). i too get spooked sometimes when surge goes off! but that's because i normally don't expect a generator to just suddenly explode. LOL

  • literally every perk that isn't in the meta that gives survivors a good surprise in the end. :D

  • i know this is a bug thread and i probably shouldn't comment, but david is seriously having a hard time keeping himself together, huh? xD

  • it would definitely be interesting to have someone from the walking dead featured in dead by daylight. whereas i'm not too familiar with the characters, i am familiar with the story. so i think it might be an interesting addition. ^^

  • i doubt it. personally, i don't see it as that great of an idea due to the fact that people all have to start off on the same ground and that the rift has to be completed within a specific timeframe. it'll break the correlation between actual game time from start-to-finish, and the time-window for the rift as well, since the rift is on the schedule.

  • @tactic said:

If killers could only lunge in straight lines, 360s and loops would be disgustingly overpowered.

It’s fine the way it is.

quoting exactly this. survivor movement is much more complicated than killer movement as well, so killers need that ability to lunge in a curve or a not-so-straight line. limiting them would weaken them further and make survivors way too overpowered.

These issues are more prominent on Console than they're on PC. I don't know which platform you play on, but if it's on Console than this is fairly common for older model PS4's, Xboxs, and even newer model ones as well. It's not ALWAYS an issue, but we do get these types of questions sometimes, and it seems to mostly come from Console players if my memory is correct.

If you're on PC and you're experiencing these issues, than it could possible be from how your PC is built and what it can handle, if you're on Console than this issue is a bit more common than you'd think it is. You can report it to the Bug Report sub-forum if you'd like, but it's not so much a bug when you look into it, it's just how much the Console can handle and what maps and features are optimized for that platform.

I personally don't experience any lag or frame-drops in-game. I used to when my internet was REALLY bad, but when it was fixed I barely experienced any lag in-game, if any at all.

    @Fibijean said:

Doesn't happen to me, but I have a fairly powerful computer. I've heard this is an issue particularly on console, especially on maps like Red Forest with a lot of particle effects that need rendering. I would definitely recommend making a bug report though, because it makes it easier for the devs to find and fix the issue - unless someone else has already reported the same problem, in which case you should just upvote their thread and maybe add a comment sharing your own experience.

    Fair enough! Thank you both.

Oddly enough, this is on PC. I was just wondering about the issue from other user's perspectives since I noticed that at times I will experience frame drops, but it'll smooth itself out afterwards. My computer can handle DBD quite well as well, which is even more strange.

But I'll definitely look into it! Cheers to you two. <3

  • i haven't really noticed any long waiting times for killer as of right now. then again, i'm currently in "green ranks", so i may not see it as much.

it's also currently 4:45 in the morning, though, so that could be part of it too. :'D

  • from what i believe, freddy was in-fact reworked because he was painful to play as and against. ^^

  • hi! i don't think creating a thread meant for "reminding" the devs is exactly the best idea.

by now they've already acknowledged that matchmaking is out of order. patience is all that's needed.
