I find pallets waste more time than they gain, due to the timing factor. The stun on the killer is too short. Considering how much faster a killer runs compared to a victim (even without perks), I believe that less hooks is a better mechanic.

That might be your issue. Killers naturally increase in speed during the chase. They're supposed to catch up, and eventually catch you.
As a survivor your goal is to either get really good at using obstacles and pallets, or going roadrunner on them, and getting out of sight, then hiding.
If you can do both, then good on ya. Hooks are less of a concern.

You can always burn offerings that reduce hooks, too. Or sabotage hooks.

The wiggle mechanic is not for escaping all the time. It's there to slow the killer and prevent them from taking you to the sex dungeon all the time.

Kindly keep in mind hooking survivors, and sacrificing them is their main way to score. Denying them that isn't cool.

Matchmaking through ranks and ranking itself definitely needs looked at. I'm running Rank 11 on killer at the moment, myself, and nearly every match has pit me against one or two Rank 2-5s, then the rest 8-10. SWF got me by the short hairs like clockwork.

Yikes. Yeah, it really needs looking at.

Had a match at rank 11 survivor and everyone else was purple.

Not looking forward to what survivors I'll run into in my next killer game.

  • The Game. Mostly because of those damn stairs and it being 2 levels. Kinda screwed up my Ritual of the Jaws, too.

Used to be slightly traumatized by Yamaoka estate because that's where I had my first run in with gen rushers. I barely got through with the first chase, and hook, and the other 3 were ready to leave.

  • I think the perk should be deactivated after maybe 60 seconds?

Other than that, I can't complain.

you waste time, this forum is made by only killer main.

Nah, that's not it. We just reject lunatic suggestions. They're mostly made by survivor mains that want the game even more biased in their favor.

Kinda scared to see a survivor main forum if this stuff makes sense at all to them. Probably wants the killer player to control a cardboard cutout of their selected killer.

Anyway with the new timing, it's too much easy counter flashlight saves. And you don't count that killers have light born. with that is almost impossible blind you

As someone who has dealt with flashlights a lot, I think you're severely underestimating flashlights.
Looking away only does so much.

My most recent encounter with realistic flashlight use cost me a kill, or even kills.

You may counter the blind but you aren't really looking where you're going either, and that really helps waste time to help someone struggle.
Plus you still get the blinding, partially. I didn't counter it as avoid being completely blinded.

I've been blinded more recently dealing with flashlights even looking away like some meter filled.

They even flashlight blinded me completely with persistence.

I never run lightborn. My billy is lvl 1.

If you make killers run lightborn, then congratulations you cost them a perk slot that could be used on more useful things.

Shine the flashlight in their face from the front. Either you blind them, or buy time for the person struggling.

Clicking the flashlight, and aiming behind their head probably won't work, nor should it. Unless it's the wraith in cloak. he gets light burned.
    Also Flashlights destroy hag traps.

You can still blind them while they're doing things, like picking people up, breaking pallets, maybe even vaulting. Points where their ability to look away are compromised, you know?

Yikes, then the comments got me WAY off topic.    x.x
    my apologies.

I have no advice on that one, since it's a problem I commonly encounter, mainly I just roll my eyes and run at them and let them get that "last word in" so that they can go on and get that pointlessly inflated ego and go bug someone else.

it's almost an annoying as the camping killer to me, just them trying to pat themselves on the back. I assume their mommy didn't hug them enough and just let them get that last little thrill... I have better things to do than worry about them.

    No need to apologize. haha

Yeah, it's not like they're being brave sticking around. Everyone knows they're safe. Just annoys me they expect me to do it. Most times I don't want to.

To quote the Joker: "That's it. Game's over. Step along! Step along! Nothing to see here! Get going before my good mood wears out! That means now!"

fair point, but it's still usually better than survivors trying to rescue and getting downed themselves,  then the camper feels his "tactic" is effective and has no incentive to stop.

I absolutely detest campers and will only ever resort to camping to secure a kill on a toxic player. (people farming their teammates, bodyblockers, or the ones who are blatantly ruining others game.)

I hate that camping is seen as a "legit" tactic. It's lazy, boring, and ruins the game.

I hate camping, too, but I recognize when, and why people might want to. That also includes being a dick.

I honestly think it's the pace of the game. It's too easy to gen rush, so the killer is on guard.

But there's also killers with no chill. They want to snarf up everyone ASAP which helps create the need to gen rush.

    It's a vicious cycle.

  • Wow, I just had some bad luck.
I spawned in next to a generator. I'm thinking "Huh, do I do the gen, or take cover a little?" I start to take cover, then "VRRRRN!!!" Billy is next to me before I even really heard the heartbeats.
He starts mauling me. I run, get mauled, get hooked quick.
All the survivors just got annihilated by a billy trying to do Adept Billy apparently.

  • Not super different in lower ranks. SWFs all the time. People playing above their rank. Really hard to have a fun time.

  • @Avariku said:
as has been said many times, if someone is camping LET THEM CAMP. at that point it is your job to get your team out of the match as quick as possible.

it's lame, ruins the game, it sucks to have 2/5 players just sitting there watching the clock... but they're only hurting themselves by not getting bloodpoints and letting all the other survivors get out.

The sooner we stop feeding them by insta-dc'ing, or getting killed trying to save the hooked player, the sooner the no-skill campers move on to another tactic.

    It's not entirely that simple.

One tactic is to camp the 1st person hooked to slow down the rest of the game.
Like you said, it can work. Altruistic survivors feed the camping slowing down gens.
At the least it's 1 person less to do gens. If the tactic really pans out well, it's 3, 2, or maybe even 1 person doing 5 gens which is a tall order.
It's especially done to help hinder gen rushing.

Yeah, ideally camping can backfire some. The survivors gen rush in response to a camper.
This creates a problem, though. 1 gen left, or the gates are open, and someone is hooked. especially if it's done in a few minutes.
Now the killer isn't camping to slow down the game, they're camping to secure a kill.
They want what few points they can get.
Gen rush leaves the survivors with nothing to make the killer want to leave the hook now, and the killer has zero reason to leave the hook. There's no good reason for them to.

  • 2 of the worst survivor spawns in the game. Very close to the killer, and very close to a lit totem.
The latter isn't great for the killer either.

  • It's after the event. It's hard to be friendly anymore.

"I wanna have fun!" survivors scream.

"I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the massive gen rush," I reply.
"I'd do something about it, but I'm busy dealing with the impossibly perfect coordinated maneuvers you guys are doing," Coz I don't have fun when SWF gets abused.

Finding a non SWF match is getting near impossible. It's almost always at least 2, and they seem to invite others into their party making it larger.

I'm not having as much fun as a killer dealing with coordinated teams. Survivor solo is more fun, and I help interfere with killers running into 4 man teams.

  • @Avariku said:

    Nah, not you personally.

I'm talking about the last part that's sort of the punchline of the joke. A swerve in that I'm not talking about killers camping the hook.

I'm talking about survivors that camp out in, or near the gate room, teabag, and flick flashlights, etc. and generally hold the game hostage until they get chased out.

It takes two to participate in a hatch standoff. Only the killer has the power to force the other one to end the stand-off, smack em and move onto the next game.

Not really. the survivor can stay there forever until they get the standoff they want, and hold the game hostage until they get it.
    Reporting them works, IIRC.

What? The killer can hit them and end the standoff in a second? What are you guys on about?

    That's the standoff, isn't it?

What if the killer has to find the hatch, and the survivor is standing on it, teabagging?
What if the killer doesn't want to find the hatch?
Survivors know that they're basically safe near the hatch short of being grabbed.

What if the gates are open, and the survivor decides to sneak around until they find the hatch, and makes it difficult to find them?

    These aren't uncommon scenarios.

Not uncommon scenarios at all. It is definately annoying once the gates are open and the pesky survivor is creeping around while i check the gates.

Sorry i was talking about the face to face standoff. Where the killer and the survivor are both at the hatch playing the waiting game.

So was I. If they don't jump in immediately, they can bait the killer, and jump before they get into grab range. They can demand you do a hatch standoff, basically.

  • I could probably make quite the list beyond 3/3.

    Like:
1:The variety of killers, and survivors. Survivors kinda are ambiguous based on perks, but killers have unique powers. Regardless there's varieties of ways to play.

2: The joys of playing against 4 strangers as a killer.

3: Being a survivor in general.

Something about this game makes me enjoy PVP when I normally shun it at every opportunity.

    Dislike:
1: Abuse of coordination. Especially with SWF. They suck the fun out of the game when they provide so much information that it makes being killer near worthless.

2: Gate camping survivors. They're all safe. They know it. They feel entitled to make me chase them out. It's dumb. It's not worth it.

3: Gen rushing. Especially people pushing for a sub 6 minute match.

Brief list off the top of my head.

  • Killer? Ginosaji. Easy. A worthwhile joke character that can't hook (Instead stands the survivor up, then hits them with the spoon, resuming the hellish chase!), but has a rapid fire spoon attack, and spoon throw with zero movement penalty. Can only do chip damage (He'd have to hit someone for maybe 9 hours straight before they go into dying state) and is only visible to the person being hit.
Perfect for obsession builds. can seek, and teleport to victims quickly, and run with survivors clubbing them mercilessly unless they can hide, but that is just temporary relief!
Gets mad points from hitting people.

Survivor? Kirsty Cotton from the early Hellraiser movies. Final girls generally rock. I don't think Tiffany Cox from the FT13th game would count, but her if she does.

Map: The bar and surrounding areas from The Feast. A more modern, colorful place with a multi story building.

That's just off the top of my head.

  • Huntress. She wants snuggles now.
  • I'm nervous about taking lvl 1 killers into high rank games just to do rituals. I feel like it would be nice.

But there's down sides, too, obviously, most of which have been brought up already.
  • I'm ok with any killer as long as they don't have a hook up their butts.

    Kinda dread Doctor the most.

Huntress, and Freddy aren't high on the list because their songs get stuck in my head, and I keep hearing phantom song stuff in my head.

It's not enough to put up with survivors disrespecting the killer, going as far as to hold the game hostage until you chase them out while the survivors know they're safe.

Or the bastard survivors that stealth around looking for the hatch afterwards.

Most survivors won't hang around to get hit, either.

  • No. It would screw haunted grounds.

Aside from haunted grounds there are 5.

Hex totems are already stupid fragile unless the killer gets lucky.

I would like to have a way to chose survivor only option for quests. Even if it's only 2 quests instead of three, just to have that option.

Agreed. Right now all 3 of my rituals are for killers. I never play a killer  When I removed one I got another killer ritual. 😒

Clearly the game is telling you to play killer, it isn't that hard, you don't loose anything for trying, only por patience

Bbq doesn't do a thing for me. Not only do I not have it on every killer, I don't have it at all. What's your scheme got to do with me?

Bbq also requires tokens earned by hooking people so camping doesn't work well on it short of getting tokens off altruistic people

You cannot punish killers into submission. They will quit when you squeeze too hard, and rebel until then.

Killers need a real reason, some profit to leaving the hook.
It needs to overcome the need to secure a kill. Especially when the gens are done and gates are open.
It needs to overcome the desire to punish a toxic crap.

And yet more and more people pick BBQ and still choose to camp. Others even hook survivors one next to each other (of course, not in the basement), just so they can camp two people at once. You are saying killers cannot be punished into submission and will "rebel". The same is to be applied to survivors, my man. Why would a player keep getting camped and be alright with that? Why are survivors not allowed to express their dislike towards campers? Would you pay a roller coaster ride just to be on it, without the race ever being started? So why should you pay to be camped? And not only is the camped survivor not having fun, but he is even punished by depipping, if he gets caught and camped before being able to do much. If you want to keep things this broken way, while still retaining your "ability" to camp player who wouldn't prefer to play something else, you must at least demand them not to depip for getting camped. If they stay on hook while camped, just so they can let others do gens, they should gain points, and not just those trifling amounts you get for struggling. I am trying to voice both my survivor and killer experience here. I dislike camping and disrespect it, in any game. People who are skilled or just decent don't need it, kids and worthless players do. But, if you are fine with almost all players either switching to the easy killer side or simply playing other games, be my guest. Goodbye, I'm done here.

Killer, and survivor? I doubt it.
You don't seem to understand the motives behind camping, or you're willfully not even wanting to.

You don't realize how powerful survivors are, either.

See, I'm trying to be the voice of the killer, and survivor.
One of the main reasons I play survivor more than killer is because of all the crap survivors put killers through.

Survivors have it absurdly easy. I'm nowhere near great, and I'm unwillingly being dragged up the ranks just by playing.
Hell, I was letting killers hook me during the event.
Not looking forward to the point where I reach the point where killers are too good, or something, and I keep hitting the ceiling in rank.

More people are camping with BBQ? Maybe because BBQ doesn't show auras of people within a certain radius of the hook. If they look around, and aren't seeing everyone unhooked, then it's pretty obvious that someone is near by to unhook as soon as the opportunity presents itself... and maybe even before then.
Or they see the auras of people coming for the rescue.
Give me one good reason a killer should just walk away?
The fun of the survivors? What about the fun for the killer?

Why shouldn't killers hook people opportunistically? It's the main way they get points. If they don't get points, what he hell is the point of them being there?

Try some altruistic builds like the perk that boosts your speed when you unhook someone, and borrowed time. You don't seem to mind demanding killers run perks, so there shouldn't be any harm in demanding survivors run perks to make scenarios work?

Look, I get getting unlucky and being the first person spotted, or some fool trying to be a decoy, and getting mauled. Regardless, the survivor still bears some responsibility to not get caught. I see it a lot of times they blatantly disregard this, and even actively trying to get the killer's attention. They get annoying to the point that keeping them in the game is detrimental.
I get camped hard. I ran into someone that took advantage of a bugged hook. It sucked because it was the original definition of face camping in that the body of the killer blocked the unhooking entirely.

You don't seem to give a damn about killers lucking out and finding a group that genrushes them into oblivion. Once it's obvious the gens are going to be done fast enough to prevent another chase and hook, the killer would have to be really nice, or insane to leave the hooked survivor. You know, one of the many reasons a killer would camp.

Skilled killers shouldn't need to camp? Skilled survivors shouldn't get hooked to begin with, or get rescued by skilled survivors. Skilled survivors should escape all the time! If survivors were skilled, you wouldn't have made this thread! Survivors need to get skilled so they don't get caught instantly! They need to get better at breaking line of sight, and hiding!

Skill is too abstract to rest anything on, you see. People have different skill sets, and amounts of skill.

I don't really give a damn if people make extra BP. Actually I do. I want people to earn more in regards to playing the game in a more fun way, or dealing with absolute bullshit.
Survivors get more points for failing to be a decoy, or being unlucky, and found first? Sure.
Do you give a damn if killers get more BP for not securing kills?

You're welcome to voice your dislike towards campers, but when you start pushing that dislike on others, especially in ways that are of severe detriment to others, well, you kinda hit a point where you're going to meet resistance.

WHY DOES EVERYONE WANT TO PUNISH A CAMPING KILLER?!?

ffs no one in here ever got the idea of rewarding not camping killers .-. (ive seen 1 post suggesting rewards for non campers and about 20+ posts that want them to get punished)
guys! punishing the killer is not a good idea!

besides that, i have free movement. i can go wherever i want on the map, you cant forbid me to stay near a hooked survivor. lets be real here: survivors are like gens to the killer: when they are on the hook, the progress goes up. you wouldnt start a gen, get it to 33% and then leave and let the killer reset it to 0%, right? why should we killers do that then? at this point, the only difference between a survivor and a generator is, that the survivors are actual people, while the gens are just like npcs, they have no feelings.

No one gets the idea of rewarding a no-camping killer for many reasons:

    • The chances you find one are close to non-existant;
    • Killers already get lots and lots of points, especially with BBQ;
    • You can't really reward someone for doing what he is supposed to do, which is the most important thing. You can't go to your job employer and ask him for money just because you presented yourself at work.

If there are that many posts about punishing camping, and devs are also VERY SOFTLY trying to do so, it should make a question mark pop in your head.

Bbq doesn't do a thing for me. Not only do I not have it on every killer, I don't have it at all. What's your scheme got to do with me?

  • So neuter killers to the point they may as well not he there and make the game absurdly survivor sided.

I play survivor more than killer, bit both pretty evenly and this is an insane list.
  • Play stealthily yourself. Keep an eye out.
Only play bold when someone else is being chased, but at the same time be as far away from the chase/killer as possible.
  •  DBD was, and is not balanced with coordinated teams in mind.

Not true, in a recent q and a they debunked the myth of SWF being an afterthought. They just didnt have time to flesh out that AND kill your friends at release. Theyve always had teamplay in mind.
    1: I doubt it.
    2: I do not care.

It really isn't balanced for SWF abusing the power of communication and coordination.
  • May as well. I mean it would help out both sides.

Killers won't have to lobby dodge.

SWF won't have to rebuild the team every time it happens.

I'm certainly going back to dodging since the overwhelming majority of SWFs just aren't fun to play against.
They're often toxic, coordinated, will end the game as quickly as they can, and will give me as small of a chance to do anything as possible.

I'm sure there's enough killers not to care if they filter swf or not, and survivors generally don't seem to mind gambling if an swf will help them escape or leave them hanging.
  • Morfedel said:
wait,  camping the exit instead of escaping?  I've seen a couple people do that,  I assumed it was in case you hooked someone they could rescue.  is this not the case?
Often not. It's all the remaining survivors at the gate waiting to be chased out. No one hooked.
    They're all safe.
Especially the healthy ones that cannot be stopped short of a one hit down, and that's if they're not camping at the edge of the gate room so they can flop out.

It's pretty much guaranteed to run into this as a killer.

I'm not saying altruistic reasons aren't there, but it's rarely the motive.
  • Ginosaji.

    The leprechaun.

The monsters from The Feast. Would have a pretty killer level, too.

    The Angry Princess

Old Gregg! Would have a pretty killer level, and could be the first killer/survivor terror because he has one of the most killer feared pieces of equipment as his natural anatomy.

  • I don't know how it is in high ranks, but yeah, SWF, possibly even SWF looking to bully low rank killers exist in low ranks.
    Sadly they're common.

Might just be easier to dodge.
  • Lets put it this way.

If it was common some random survivor in your team started working with the killer using voice comms to tell the killer where you, and your buddies are, I think you'd be lying if you said you wouldn't be mad.

It's no different when you use voice comms vs the killer to prevent them from being able to do anything. DBD was, and is not balanced with coordinated teams in mind.

Everyone is safe at this point, unlike camping a hook.

If you get looped for 4 / 5 gens now, you're just plain bad. It was very possible and very common back when there were 50 pallets everywhere and pallet vaccum existed, but if it happens now, it's either a new killer or just plain bad. Half of the time, survivors get hit through pallets and windows, some windows have been made useless from certain sides because of the irrelevant vaulting change. People just don't like crouching the whole game. They like to take the killer's attention and never turn down a chase, what are they supposed to do without looping? Do you think the devs will tell them "Just use stealth"? That is a good way to kill like 70% of the survivor playerbase, and i'm sure they are not that stupid. There's still a lot of places where a survivor can loop the hell out of a killer that isn't the nurse. Possibly endlessly.  The overturned long boats in the pantry for instance.

    Most buildings.

    Cars.

The only alternative most killers have is to ignore the decoy, and go after someone else, or get looped endlessly. Chases aren't supposed to be endless.

The point is likely to break line of sight, then hide.

You don't have to hold crouch the whole time, or run.

Moving normally while the killer is not present works ok for the most part.

I get it. Stealth play isn't for everyone. Some people want to be chased. Believe me, I see them all the time.

I don't believe anyone is trying to get rid of chases, but most sane people want both sides to have a fair shake.

Care to elaborate a little bit more? I haven't seen an "endless" loop yet.

Not sure how to elaborate. You chase a runner around something like the overturned boats in the grim pantry, and you're going to have a bad time.

Also that video a few comments back.

Also it's pretty easy to get looped several gens. Especially against rushers.

If Detectives Hunch, or Deja Vu are pretty damn helpful.

What platform are you on? On PC this is not a problem. Boats in grim pantry? Survivors are not looping those structures endlessly... at least not on PC with a good killer. Chases in general aren't endless unless the killer makes it out to be.. and that means knowing the survivor's skill and knowing what you think they know. If you think they know there are pallet setups lined up for several gens and you find them leading you, don't follow them. I see killers make this mistake a shitload and by the time they realize their mistake, they lost a lot of time.. and the game.

Detective's Hunch and Deja Vu? Wth.

    Ps4.
And yeah, those perks to help the gen rush while the decoy loops the hell out of the killer.

Is that meta on PS4? I would think just knowing the map would be good enough. Seems like a waste of perk slots to me.

I don't know what gen rushers use, but you're right in that they probably know the map well enough to not need them.

Experience just shows me if you fall for the designated decoy, they will run you across the map, and maybe give you a tour of pallet town. A lot of gens will get done.
