Exactly if it means that much to you to win consistently then youre probably a tryhard. If it didnt matter to you then youd take the L and have fun in the next one.
I dont care, if it means i get a sweaty match once every 3-4 matches then who cares ill die or get a 4e and get set back to the matches i was having fun with. Escaping or getting kills arent really consistent with having fun, at least for me.
Wanting = tryharding
OKAY.

It doesn't punish people for being tryhards. It puts good players against the tryhards, which inevitably forces the sweaty playstyle if you don't want a loss streak.
Correct

"Basically though, if you want good teammates as Survivor, you're going to play against Nurse and Spirit all day."
If that's the case and what you say is true, SSMR will show the reason why - that certain killers (in your example, all killers not Nurse or Spirit) cannot seem to make progress after certain rating no matter how good these players are. This is because they will always lose to certain groups - and those groups' ratings will continue to rise which will make it more and more difficult to matchmake them - then the developers will have to address the balancing issue whether they like it or not.
"If you don't want Nurse and Spirit all day, you're gonna get awful teammates."
No, ideally, you will get matched with awful teammates if you yourself is a pretty awful player. Which is fine, because you should be matched against awful killer players - so that you have, on average, 50% of escaping. If you are an average player, you will be matched with other average players, including the killer-player. If you are a good player, you will be matched with good teammates, but will also be matched against good killers, so that again, on average, you will have around 50% of escaping. I don't see anything wrong with that.
"As Killer, if you want to win, you've gotta play Nurse or Spirit at high-levels and you gotta sweat."
Again, this is true only at the very highest levels, where balancing issues (probably) are. For most of us, playing any of the killer will only match us with survivors around your own skill level of that particular killer-character. Even at the highest level, if you are playing a killer that cannot compete (ratings-wise) with the best survivor-groups, you will face those groups less and less often because your killers' ratings will be stuck at a certain point in the rating scale, while their rating will have continued to climb.
They don't have to address anything. See optimization.
They could've just updated the pip system, but they chose to make a mystery MMR system.

I don’t have enough info to know if I would care or not. Just saying “your face the nurse or the spirit all the time” doesn’t actually mean anything. I understand that it’s supposed to be matching you based on your skill level, but I don’t know what they’re basing your skill level on. Number of wins? Number of points in an average round?
They will not disclose that information, which makes me (personally) suspicious.
We've got no idea what they are basing it on.
Basically though, if you want good teammates as Survivor, you're going to play against Nurse and Spirit all day.
If you don't want Nurse and Spirit all day, you're gonna get awful teammates.
As Killer, if you want to win, you've gotta play Nurse or Spirit at high-levels and you gotta sweat.
If you try to play someone else at high ranks, good luck.
At casual ranks, it's likely nothing will change. You'll still get ######### teammates and...interesting Killers.

If you don't try hard, you won't go up against people who tryhard either. If you always play to win, you will go up against people who also play to win, just as it should be.
That's false.
I do not try (in most of my matches) but I consistently outperform 99% of teams. I've literally lost 11 times since January 1, 2021. Would I like some better competition? Absolutely. Do I want to have to tryhard every single game in order to have a chance? No. Do I want to give up the roster that I play? No.
Saying "if you don't tryhard, you won't go up against tryhards" is like telling Wayne Gretzky to go play with some junior hockey players and telling him not to try. He's still going to absolutely dominate them, because his skill floor is way higher than theirs is.
Good players don't have to try to be good.
Plus, we don't even know what MMR is grading us on. How the hell am I supposed to improve at the game if I don't even know where I stand, much less what I'm being scored on.

God nurses and sweat squads are already a thing. If they shouldn't be placed with equally hardcore players, who exactly should they be going up against?
This is a game. People play it to have fun. I'm a fairly good Killer player. Would I enjoy going up against more challenging opponents more frequently? Sure! Would I be willing to sweat my ass off every game in order to even have a chance to compete? No.
Likewise, casual/average players are still going to complain about their teammates.
We also have no idea how MMR even works in this game. How am I supposed to get better if I can't even see what I need to work on?
The pip system needs an update, not a re-design.

Because I'm fed up with the current ranking system that just doesn't ever work properly anymore and every single time they've tested MMR or SBMM, I had a blast playing Dead by Daylight. As far as I was concerned, the tests worked like a charm.
So, am I correct in assuming one of the reasons you'd like the MMR system is to get some better teammates when you play Survivor?
-
@Mooks said:
With the current matchmaking being like it is… I really don’t get how anyone can be against another system. It can’t really get worse. Especially my killer matches are either this or that and don’t feel in any way fair..
The issue is that if you are good, your matches are going to get worse.
If you aren't good, your matches probably won't change too much.
For the Survivor side of things, if you want good teammates, you've gotta be good yourself. If you aren't good, you'll see the same level of teammates you currently do.
If you are, then you get god-level teammates...and a Starstruck Nurse who slugs at 5 gens.
The average skill level of the matches may be closer, but MMR may actually kill off most of the high-level players.

We already complain a lot about the current system.
The change is supposed to match you with people close to your skills instead of close to your rank. Because you can rank up easily currently and everyone playing the game enough is Purple/Red without having enough experience to face Red Survivors/Killers.
So, you want the change to (hopefully) get better teammates, right?
-
Surely, that won't do much.
We still got the Hillbilly nerf even though he wasn't really overperforming.
And high ranks have been left untouched for years. Surely, the Devs aren't blind.

Honesty that is why a non-ranked mode would be the solution to this...
That way all the sweaty, and try-hards can have at it. If all those sweaty players like having to try-hard every game than they should just stay at MMR/ranked mode.
And that would split the playerbase and make queue times that are already bad even worse.
-
@Munqaxus said:
A) Their queue times will be horrendous
This should be the exact same, as the search takes longer, you get a wider range of ranks.
B) It isn't fun playing against high-ranked players. This has ALWAYS been an issue and BHVR has never addressed it. High-level DBD is an awful horrible place.
The current version of DBD doesn't do anything to solve this. Why would this matter?
A) Queue times are bad now because there aren't normally enough Killers. As evidenced by Dowsey, who only found a match after a pro team sniped him, it can take a very long time. Even if it expands your rank as time goes on, then MMR has done basically nothing.
B) In the current build of DBD, you get a variety of matches. Some are easier, some are harder, even at Rank 1. With MMR, if you are good, you will only ever go against other players who are good. That's the issue. When you toss good players into a match, the game becomes ludicrously unbalanced. That will drive away many peopleas it will be CONSTANT.
-
@DeliciousFood said:
Most killers in higher ranks are bad and feel threatened by solo queue teams, so you'll see this no matter what's done. Just try to get more efficient at looping so you can tbag their boosted ass at the exit gate.
Nah, I tunnel and camp whenever I can because ultimately, I play to win and I don't take chances.
I give no mercy and expect none in return.

You forgot how boosted some peoples egos are & that they'll genuinely believe they're going against swf team 6 or God tier killers every match & then wrongly figure out how they got into the high ranks.
The devs would have to stop releasing updates to kill this game imo.
But people who ARE good at this game will quit.
Either because
A) Their queue times will be horrendous
Or
B) It isn't fun playing against high-ranked players. This has ALWAYS been an issue and BHVR has never addressed it. High-level DBD is an awful horrible place.
-
@CornHub said:
The devs just don't want people easily deducing what does & doesn't rank you up & down. Since it's asymmetrical you could easily figure it out by playing a few matches as the same killer.
People are going to figure that out anyway.
A huge amount of people are going to end up quitting when MMR goes live unless they have some sort of visible reward.

Oh, you can just tell by how bad they play.

I don't think anyone cares much about brightness, since it's something that you can control even with hardware and it's not that gamechanging as stretch screen or something even worse. Most people control brightness with the monitor or the graphics card, i see no problem, the only thing it sucks is that you can see everything better in low quality than in ultra.

Because there's a flipside issue where the killer just downs survivor #3 and then hunts down survivor #4, effectively removing the hatch from the game. D/C is the only thing survivors have to fight back against this, and it's penalised anyway.

And you are also in Red Ranks on Console?

I last played DBD two days ago. First match was as a surv against Freddy on Lery's, and all Xbox despite Crossplay on. One surv dc's shortly after the start wadnt even found yet, so I assume hated Fred or map. One gen pops in the opposite corner, and I'm on the center gen.
Fred and a loud Bill come through the middle, I get the usual skill check while letting go, and am greated with a slow-motion slide show as I turn my cam. Felt like a drunken water sprinkler with low pressure.
Bill vaults a window and the frames drop further, so I'm guessing Lithe. The Freddy swings and misses, stops movin, and dc's. Fun had by all.
Haven't fired up this game since.
That truly is the Dead By Daylight experience.

You could've made it shorter:
2-3 Ways to have fun as Killer
- Play as selfishly as possible (tunnel, camp and slug, etc.).
- Don't selfreflect on, care for, or anticipate any possible consequences of your actions.
- Play survivor to learn the movement etc.
Point 2 is optional, only if it's not natural to you to not care anyway.
That seems good to me!

I try to have meaningful discussions.

Trickster isn't OP.
He's just extremely anti-fun.

If a Myers brings me to Lery's, I think "I'm gonna get jumpscared." I also recognize that he still probably won't win.
If a Survivor brings me to Haddonfield, I think "They're going to try to bully me." I also recognize that they went there to win.

I know that there are a bunch of performance issues on old gen consoles, but I don't know if I'm insane or what, but dbd has always run perfectly fine on my fairly average pc, easily get 60fps+ on Ultra and I only have a 1060? Again, I know it's really bad on console, but I always hear about terrible performance on pc which I've never experienced.
The Xbox One and PS4 series of Console's are actually still current-gen. The vast majority of people can't get a PS5 or Series X/S, and the shortage is likely to continue for some time.
There's not as many issues on PC, but people with great PC's have started to notice issues, which is a sign that whatever the problem is, it's worsening.

Because the Devs either can't fix it or feel like they can get away with not fixing it.

Legion is the worst.
