It's literally at the end of the tweet: "With that, we’re shifting our focus to a bugfix patch for all PC & console platforms, currently planned for next week."
This was posted on the 2nd, so he's talking about the week that starts on the 8th. I'm calling the day because updates always come on Tuesday.
Considering it's a 2 week break between updates, it MUST be something related to optimization. Minor changes always come on the week after.
I'm not exactly hopeful about it.

If it is 90 pages of 30 comments then Pulsar put things out of context by only putting the number 90 in response to Kyxlect's comment on about it only being one person.
In any case as many have pointed out if it was the game more people would be experience it and that doesn't appear to be the case now that many of the issues with the Resident Evil DLC have been fixed. Instead of posting in this 90 page thread perhaps they should be troubleshooting their systems.
Okay. Sure.
Go ahead, tell me what I should do.

90 people is a small fraction of those that play this game. If it was an issue with the game there would be a lot more having problems.
90 pages of 30 comments each.
There's plenty of people experiencing these issues and you are trying to sweep them under the rug as if they don't matter.
Shame.

Are you playing the game on a HDD or a SSD? Because I hwae the issue doesn't happen if you use a ssd.
That's still an issue. You shouldn't need to purchase an external piece of equipment to play the game properly.
And yes, I am using one. Iirc, the One X comes with one and I bought an external one.

I only crashed once, was Doctor on Coldwind map. I made it almost across the map when game froze for like 30ish seconds before it kicked me back to the "press x to continue" screen. Later when I was playing survivor faced a Doctor on same map that after about 30 seconds DC'd so guessing probably same thing happened to him. Since the Mid Chapter patch I keep getting Player Level Update Error after either killer or survivor matches. Had a Trapper match where I couldn't use the trap in my hand, could only reset the traps that spawned on the map which are pretty terrible. End of match had this error message so ontop of performance issues messing with matches also have this.

I just get the chainsaw noise and then I get booted to the dashboard.

It's better than it was after the RE chapter patch but still worse than it was before RE chapter. They still have a ways to go just to get performance back to the way it was pre-RE chapter.
That seems to be the consensus.
Some people are saying it's worse, others say it's slightly better but I'm just wondering when I'll stop getting penalties for crashing.

One person? Did you not see the thread over optimization that is dozens of pages long? It's not one person that has this issue, it's many people. Devs just can't, or won't, fix it in a meaningful way.
It would be nice if the server could tell the difference between clicking 'leave match' vs hardware/software issues.
It's 90 now!
-
It's pretty awful
-
@Itslat3ncy said:
Borrowed wouldn't be a perk then. The whole point is for the unhooker to take an extra hit. Whether to prevent tunneling or to protect the unhooker. Getting rid of collision gets rid of the point of borrowed
It just makes it unabusable.
Removing collision seems good.

I own DBD on both console and PC so I've been doing custom games between the two platforms so I can explore the map, and I have to say it's not as confusing as it initially seemed, I find it much easier to navigate than all the other indoor maps with the exception of Midwhich. It also doesn't feel as big as it initially seemed. I feel like the map can either be killer sided or survivor sided depending on which side understands the map better. As survivor there are some strong loops that you can really string together in a very efficient way and as killer you can create 3 gens and quickly turn sections of the map into deadzones if you're going against a crap team. I don't know, I have to play it more in real matches... but I think I don't mind the map.
It's as big as Mother's Dwelling and Killer's with movement options are crippled on that map.
There's also multiple god pallets, multiple useless pallets and a god loop.
The map also runs like ######### on current-gen Console's and still crashes.
It's bad for everyone.

Just because BHVR doesn't listen to you doesn't mean they don't listen to the community. I can think of several times they have listened to the community. The DC Penalty is a good example. Much of the community wanted it back and for good reason and they listened.
A lot of the community wanted the penalty to stay off because their game still can't tell the difference between a crash and a DC.

When you mean current-gen do you mean like ps5 or xbox series x? Cause with the switch, optimizing is much harder then other consoles due to the hardware being very cheap, but with the newer consoles, I don't understand how those can't handle dbd.
Current-gen is the systems that most people use, which would be Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox One X, PS4 and PS4 Pro.
Series X, Series S and PS5 are still next-gen since most people can't get them.
-
Performance is inconsistent on current-gen Console's as well.
Ranges from worse to slightly better.

Remember not every Xbox player is having these issues. That in and of itself shows its not the game.

Roughly in the upper 300's or lower 400's as Killer.

@AGM said:
There are a bajillion threads about this. Short answer: latency.
Long answer: Killer's client used to be the referee for if a hit connected. Now, the server is the referee. So now, on rare occasion, if the killer swings into a dropping pallet, their client registers a hit, and the hit sounds and vfx play. But the server goes, "wait, no, that pallet was actually 50% way down." And so the hit gets canceled. You weren't "robbed" as many say. The sounds and vfx just should not have played.
It isn't rarely.
It's repeatable, see the following video:

Where you looking at chemical response (i.e. dopamine spikes, stress hormones) or was it more neural brain mapping and activity?
Both actually.
I touched on how our brains can be trained to seek out dopamine from alternative sources (social media) and how that can negatively impact our lives.
I also spoke about how some games are used to improve memory and reaction times and can be used to re-train the brain in a more positive way.

That's a great post.
Its also born of the fact that the game by very design taps into some really primal emotional motivations. Mainly hunting and survival. When you fail at these it almost always jabs your ego and that jab is squarely centered in the emotinal stress parts of your brain.
Decoupling the game and the outcome from the emotional and keeping it in the logical higher cortex will help with this but its very hard to do even when the cost/reward is completely artificial and the gains imaginary.
Computer games are very interesting studies in human psychology especially when they have a social element. You are definitely more likely to take it personally when your opponent is human than if you lose to a bot.
Indeed, I wrote my senior paper on the "Effects of Computers on the Human Brain." It was mostly focused on the physiological aspect, but I briefly touched on some psychological aspects

FYI for console players:
Killers that have power bars suffer a constant low framerate when using the power bars (eg plague puking). This primarily effects:
- Bubba
- Oni
- Plague (she is borderline unplayable)
- Pyramid
- Twins (releasing victor, playing as vic is fine)
I will update the list as I gradually test some other killers. The only exception I've found is billy, he suffers literally no performance issues when charging his saw.
Myers seems to be alright, if you consider that a bar.

Yeah, that's a good one. It was written by a psychologist, right? I always thought it was interesting he took the time to analyze the game. His analysis also made me a little sad, thinking about the kind of game I'm playing and how unhealthy it is. I can't help but feel regretful that I got sucked in.
It seems like the game is designed to punish players, and then players go the extra mile to make it worse with in-game taunts and post-game chat. Original DS was the biggest "[BAD WORD] you, killer!" in the game, punishing killers for winning a chase. I don't know how that abomination ever got greenlit. Original Dying Light was no better, requiring a survivor be tunneled out as fast as possible. With perks like that, you have to wonder if the devs actually wanted the two sides to legitimately hate each other.
Yes, it was written by a psychologist.
Regardless of their original intentions, we are where we are.
-
@TragicSolitude said:
So many reasons.
Like Pulsar said, other players is a large factor. The two sides are not nice to each other. Rather than a friendly rivalry, this game has cultivated a hateful us vs them mentality that just doesn't abate.
Why do the two sides hate each other? Because the most efficient way to win is to deny the other side a chance to play. The more efficient you are, the more miserable the opposing side is. One side feels rushed to complete their objective, the opposing side responds in kind, and it's an endless cycle. One of the most effective ways for killers to slow down gen repair is to get the match down to a 1v3 as fast as possible. The survivor who gets tunneled out feels singled out, they feel cheated out of getting to participate in the match, and they feel like they waited in a queue for nothing. But if a killer doesn't do that they risk getting gen rushed and then they're the one who's miserable. It's rare that both sides walk away feeling good about a match.
The game doesn't reward much in terms of points. The grind is crazy, and when a player ends with very few Bloodpoints because the other side played efficiently, it's upsetting. If the game were more rewarding, that could help a lot. Instead, at the end of a bad match, it feels like you got nothing out of it.
Survivors get frustrated because they feel their teammates are potatoes or their teammates are sandbagging or farming them. Killers feel frustrated because it's a 1v4 situation and they can't be in 4 places at once; one mistake can cost them multiple gens.
Because of how frustrated players get, they have a habit of being both bad losers and bad winners. This increases the frustration of those around them, and it's all just an endless cycle.
Also, because having fun as Survivor often includes humiliating the Killer and vice versa.
This is an excerpt from the post I constantly link to:
Dead by Daylight is a unique game. It stands in the company of other asymmetric games, but it has unique aspects that other games don't that affect our psychology as we play. I wanted to explain these concepts and have some advice for how to counter them.
Concept 1: Humiliation DBD's gameplay is centered on humiliating your adversary. I would argue that every aspect of the gameplay is an act of humiliation, not competition, like you see in other games. The reward-based outcomes combined with asymmetric gameplay makes DBD uniquely painful to emotionally process both your losses AND wins. Let's look at the various aspects of gameplay:
Killer Humiliates
- Frustrates a survivor's ability to contribute to their team (social humiliation)
- Frustrates a survivor's ability to level up and earn points (reward-denial humiliation)
- Frustrates a survivor's ability to appear competent in front of their survivor peers (mild self-esteem humiliation)
Survivor Humiliates
- Frustrates a killer's ability to appear competitive and threatening in the game environment (social)
- Frustrates a killer's ability to level up and earn points (reward-denial humiliation)
- Humiliates the killer in post-game chat, something that while survivors aren't immune to, but have group social support resources to easily heal from (severe self-esteem humiliation)
Concept 2: Rollercoaster of Emotional Injury If a killer wins, but doesn't win "right" (camping, some glitch, lag, etc) they are deprived of their celebration by the survivors (survivor decides whether killers can celebrate, another humiliation). If a survivor wins, but everyone doesn't survive, the sacrificed survivor is deprived of joining in the celebration (the killer can take this opportunity to humiliate them). Through all of this, both player sides undergo extreme stress.
Killer Stress
Killers experience states of stress throughout the game: trying to find survivors, being evaded by survivors, losing track of survivors, and protecting hooks from survivor saves. Killers, at no point, have any moment of emotional peace or sense of "safety" from these states. The emotional injury ALWAYS ramps up in post-game end chat, and at the gate, where killers are ritualistically humiliated by twerking/circling/various taunts.
Survivor Stress
Survivors experience states of stress, too, with waves of calm: hiding, peacefully working on gens with their peers, being in the terror radius, evading, and being on the hook. Successful evasion and successful hides are followed by positive feelings of calm, while being chased is stressful, and being caught, hooked, and killed is a very substantial, large loss. A hooked survivor has disappointed their team, lost a huge amount of point potential, and been humiliated by the killer. Watch streamer facial expressions change when they realize they cannot be rescued and are dead, after a long match. There is pain in their face.

Unless the completely re-design the game, yes, one side will always receive the short end of the stick.

They can't.

I mean Survivor had to deal with BS hits trough pallets for a long time, if anything most of the fake hits right now are largely latency issues, they gotta work on the info the killer gets, cause right now the killer is getting wrong info from the server.
Sure, it was wrong that Survivors had to deal with those issues.
It's also wrong that Killers do too.

Killer is more mentally stressful and more importantly, more emotionally stressful

They didn't fix them.
They just flipped it so that it's BS against Killer now.

Unlike you, I play both killer and survivor almost equally. And when I get 3k, I don't slug, because I don't want to waste anyone's time (including my own) on these childish attempts to seem powerful and almighty. I'm here to play the game, not to assert myself.
Your argument is essentially that Killers are not allowed to play in an "unfun" way in order to get a personal win.
However, Survivors should play in an unfun way in order to gain a personal victory, regardless of how the game went.
That is a double standard and you should think about that.
-
I think I'm going to rescind my original statement that the game runs better.
It was running better for a bit, but now it's back to normal.
How unsurprisingly disappointing.
-
Seemed like it was better for a day and then it returned to normal.
-
I'm actually going to retract my original assessment after playing significantly more.
It's basically the same.
-
Oh yay, now I can crash and get a penalty.

I don’t know if this is a good place to post this and if this is even a general issue or just my finding, but as the console performance discussion was a lot about HDD issues lately, maybe it can give some additional information/insight.
I did some hard disk activity logging with Windows Process Monitor because I was interested what might cause the issues that could be related to the HDD/SSD issue, even I don’t really have this issue on PC.
As the findings in terms of performance were mixed with the 5.1.0 patch, I was not sure what to expect, but there was and still is a lot of situational hard disk activity during a match, which I find questionable because I believe these assets could also be load to memory during loading screen, but I don't want to speculate about how the game works.
However, what’s new with patch 5.1.0 for me is a lot of failed reading of HUD assets from the hard disk (and probably replaced the NAME INVALID errors I have seen in 5.0.2). E.g. the game permanently tries to load the icon for undetectable status (while playing Ghostface) and perk icons (even if they are still there visible) from hard disk, it can’t find on the hard disk.
Numbers (all from the same match):
filtered hard disc activity during the recorded trial: ~28000 log entries
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/P66BMDWCXLQE/bild1.png
including NAME NOT FOUND messages: ~46000 log entries
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/Y2VP4WY3C2NN/bild2.png
including PATH NOT FOUND messages: ~234000 log entries
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/B8JTPQ9T4VIL/bild3.png
I just thought the Steam update didn’t worked out well, so I freshly reinstalled DBD after this first finding, but nothing changed.
As I don’t experience significant performance issues with this, I don’t mind, but it’s still questionable.
Logged KYF match on PC (played vs myself, PC Ghostface, Stadia Nea):
Situational hard disk access:
scratch marks first time: 3:12
idk, just moving: 5:30
reveal + injured: 5:40
…
ProcessMonitor filter options:
excluded NAME NOT FOUND at 1:55
included PATH NOT FOUND at 8:30
excluded PATH NOT FOUND at 9:40
included PATH NOT FOUND at 9:55
excluded PATH NOT FOUND at 10:05
Just to make it clear: I don't want to proove or speculate about issues. I just wanted to share my findings. Maybe somebody else can confirm this, especially PC players that experience more stuttering/freezing issues with 5.1.0. I don’t know if PC is different to consoles in this aspect or even PC exclusive with 5.1.0 or just a finding with my installation.
BTW, it looks like Stadia has these stuttering/freezes many console players reported here (when finish gens and so on), but could be network related as well (didn’t Google said they use SSD on their Stadia server blades?).
Some other public match ProcessMonitor footage:
DBD 5.0.2. Game + Logs on SSD (NAME INVALID Messages at 0:20 and 5:25, related to HUD icons):
DBD 5.0.2 Game + Logs on HDD (feels less smooth than on SSD):
DBD 5.1.0. Game + Logs on SSD (with NAME/PATH NOT FOUND filtered):
Can you put this in layman's terms? I'm afraid I'm much too stupid to understand that. What does this mean?
