Here's hoping. It'll probably end up fixing PC, since that's actually pretty easy (disable the problematic effects and tie them to High/Ultra settings only) but console is a different story, given the Devs want it to look as pretty as possible and really don't seem to care about early last gen consoles.

I own a One X (which released in 2018 and is significantly more powerful than the One S or base Xbox One) and I am still having issues.

  • I might be able to pull off Susie.

I did some punk make-up once for fun with my friends and it didn't look too horrible

3k is still a win objectively, the difference between 3 kills and 4 is so minuscule that leaving someone bleeding out to kill everyone is pretty pointless and petty.

    Not to me.

There is no defined win condition.

Some people think a 2K is a win. Some think 3K, some 4K.

Others think a pip is a win.

A treasured few believe that they win so long as they have fun.

  • @WexlerWendigo said:

Does it though? Is it really a big deal if you get a 3k or a 4k? The game would be much better if the killer didn’t slug for 10 minutes to get a 4k

How dare people try to win?

Is it really a big deal if Survivors don't get to open the Exit Gates? Like, the game would be so much better if Survivors didn't try to win.

Your conclusion is correct but your argument is weak.

So what I am looking for is people who main a single killer and if they were asked a question should be able to answer them, As for hours played I mean hours played with that killer is better than hours played in total, Your saying anyone who has played 5 games with that killer can give general answers is not strictly true, yeah there maybe some questions they can answer but someone with 500 hours can answer better than someone with 5 games, The reason I am asking for who people main is I want to try and get a varity of killer mains rather than multiple people giving me the same information on the same killer, I have done Blight and Ghostface so far.

@Pulsar Who do you main mostly?

In the past I've put significant time into: Wraith, Myers, Legion, Clown, GhostFace, Demo and Deathslinger.

Currently, I play a lot of Nemesis, Blight and Wraith.

I have a lot of hours, so I could really talk about any and all of them at length.

Wish my teammates used it, I’d say I see it activate once maybe every 10 games these days

To be fair, I will go out of my way to eat DS. I do not respect it at all.

But yeah, I'd say it's in every game of mine and all of my SWF run it.

Why would anyone "move on" from the fact that their ######### game doesn't work anymore? I didn't buy a game that was broken, I bought a game that worked and then was broken by the developers. I mean how TF can you so completely screw up console play in the way that they have? People blink around the map like Tracer from Overwatch (a game that actually works). Im not going to be "understanding" to people who screw their player base over and then have some lame ass anniversary event "celebrating" the game that they so completely #########. ######### these people.

    That's a little...harsh.

In the future, please try to keep comments to a more respectful tone. I'm as frustrated as you are, but I'd rather not see this closed.

  • They should be destroyed like mori's were.

Make them a special animation that counters one perk, like how Mori's counter DS on last hook.

"Keys can only be used once the Exit Gates are opened."

This counters BloodWarden, like how mori's counter DS, but they are basically just a different animation rather than anything useful.

  • Somebody better tell my Survivors that DS doesn't need to be run every game.

Ah yes sorry the second class with a whole range of system exclusive Titels like horizon zero dawn, blood Bourne, GTA V and others that took several years to be ported or not and even then sometimes with horrendous optimization in terms of visuals or controls.

While titles like cod, battlefield, fortnight, PUBG, overwatch and whatnot where (properly? I don't play on console) ported within less than half a decade.

I meant in regards to Dead by Daylight.

  • It hurts my eyes and gives me a headache.

I'd literally rather tunnel anyone who has it out of the game than get hit by it.

  • The concept of an exclusive chapter is incredibly foolish.

I get that you didn't like the RE chapter, but this is literally worse than Resident Evil.

You are literally preventing most of the playerbase from playing the DLC.

They can try to fix the performance, but no amount of optimization is going to remove the inherent advantages of mouse & keyboard vs. gamepad. Each system has its pros and cons, but in this game, mouse & keyboard's advantages make them the better control system.

True, but here's how I see it.

DBD isn't a super mechanically intense game. There are some things you can't do with a controller, but for the most part, it's the same. There are some Killers that are better, and some that are worse. The mechanical advantage you gain from M&K is there, but it isn't like a game like Overwatch where the difference is overwhelming.

Likewise, performance isn't everything. Having lower FPS and some stuttering is rough, but you can learn to play around it.

It's when both of this issues are combined that it becomes completely unfair. I can learn to play with 25 FPS, but I can't be playing against people who are getting 90 FPS and have a mechanical advantage over me.

  • @burt0r said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2375066#Comment_2375066

Such a system would never work. ATM their are how many systems DBD is playable on?

PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox one, Xbox x, switch and I don't know if stadia is counted as a separate system.

That's at least 6 systems and you want people to be able to choose who they can play against? Then you would have to make individual queues for every possible combination of matchings and additional 6 for the off crossplay.

Way to go stretching the already not massive population paper thin and sending queues into overtime.

    Then fix the game.

I shouldn't be at an enormous disadvantage for daring to not play on PC.

Console players have always been treated as second-class.

Even if they optimize the game and fix some of the glaring issues simply stronger machines have more FPS, etc. They cannot ever remove all advantages as more GPU, CPU, RAM, faster internet even... all create differences.

People will pick platforms that are lesser than their own, the more powerful potential if a machine the less they will be picked. Potato PCs are a thing, but everyone assumes they all play on super gaming rigs. You claim it will be better or the same, but that is a false fallacy as it will negatively affect others disproportionately due to human biased behavior. Console vs PC war mentalities, elitism, etc.

Crossplay is about inclusion of others, not a manner where you can apply your elitist beliefs.

    Then fix the game.

A small difference is fine. The amount of ######### Console players have dealt with is unacceptable and completely unfair.

  • @Kalinikta said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2374728#Comment_2374728

Euhm a double standard is being used here. You have the advantage on a PS5 versus a PS4 or Xbox One. Yet now that is all of a sudden "fair". See how your picking is biased and such a system will disproportionately affect specific platforms? You claim to not want to play where disadvantages are in play, yet have no issues including less powerful machines that are at a disadvantage compared to you. Either you claim to want an even playing field, which is provided by opting out or you embrace the inclusive nature of crossplay.

If you want options, ask for mouse and keyboard support.

If you want better optimization, nobody will disagree with you on that.

If you want elitist picking rights... no.

What I want is for BHVR to fix their game. It's unlikely that they will.

In the mean time, I'd like to be able to choose to play against every platform.

If I want to play against them, I check a box, if I don't want to play against them, I don't.

That leaves the choice up to the individual and allows for greater variation in crossplay.

At best, it's much better than our current system. At worst, it's the same.

I'd really prefer to have the game fixed though.

  • I could've gotten a ton to P3, but I can barely play the game because it's so badly optimized.

Then what about PS4 and Xbox one against PS5 and Xbox x?

The different level of optimisation for those respective generations should also be a notable difference and disadvantage for the former.

Then add options for every platform.

Check to include the platform and leave it blank if you don't want them in your queues.

You know what would fix all of this? If BHVR optimized their game.

  • I play everyone except Nurse, Hag and Billy and I'm very experienced at this point.

Why? You want an even playing field or only one where if anyone is at a disadvantage it is your opponents? Because that is what your options would do! Either accept that differences between platforms are a thing and accept those that are worse than you or better than you or opt out. No cherry picking to only be the top dog, because you find it unfair if others have better gear than you. Because if that is unfair to you, it is hypocritical to demand the option to have an advantage over others.

I just want to be able to pick and choose who I plqy against.

I don't really want to play against PC or Switch, it's unfair.

I don't mind playing against PS4 or Xbox players though.

Actually, it was bannable a while ago until BHVR added DC Penalties. If you DC'd enough times, which back then it was a crap ton, you would receive a lengthy ban [1 week > 2 week > 3 week > permanent] whenever they did their annual ban wave. However, now that there's DC penalties, there's no need to ban them as there's already a punishment for DCing.

My information is inaccurate, but it's a rough recall to how things was back then.

Well, as of now, DC penalties are off.

And even when they are on, I've seen these guys do it repeatedly against me, like, multiple games in a row.

  • I mean, it is pretty clearly exploiting a game mechanic for a unintended benefit.

    I don't think it's bannable, unfortunately.

  • I picked up Overwatch again recently (big mistake i know) and I forgot about how much better it runs.

Cannot describe how much I utterly hate that perk anyway - literally the most scummy killer perk out there. Seems to have become really popular lately for some reason. Doing it and then purposely disconnecting is scum of the highest order, I've not encountered it but I'm not surprised since scumminess seems to be on the rise.

There is nothing wrong about opting out, as I said make your choice. If you want to have an even exclusive experience that is what it is for.

Yet the feature of crossplay is about including anyone on any platform and not cherry picking who does or does not suit ones criteria and only selecting people that they have the advantage over, as that is the reality of this request. Either accept some people have advantages over others, including the OP because a new gen vs a switch is also a big difference with inherent advantages or opt out and play within the associated ecosystem which keeps it equal.

You can't expect people to be okay with that.

    There should be options.

  • @Orion said:

To those saying "console" has more players than PC:

"Console" is not one platform. DbD has been released on five different consoles, all of them with different hardware.

I would say that PS4 probably has slightly fewer players than PC currently, maybe 50K. It consistently ranks in the top % of games played on PS4 and it was free on PSN for a bit iirc.

Xbox likely has about half of PS4's numbers, likely bolstered by Game Pass.

  • @Kalinikta said:

Crossplay is about inclusion of others, if you don't like it turn it off and deal with what the queue time is without it. If you want to be some elitist, some type of exclusive club and tell others they are not welcome don't use the feature. It isn't meant so you can cherry pick who you think you have advantages over, to include them but then whine that others with other machines have an advantage over you and leave them out. Either you accept everyone or you opt out.

I'm opted out and my queue's are fine.

I don't like playing against people who hold a massive advantage over me due to no fault of my own.

  • Console playerbase is likely bigger than PC.

  • In game or IRL?

    I've got plenty for both.

And why exactly couldn't they have used Heisenberg? As long as they kept his in-game backstory short and made it so it didn't spoil the later half of RE8 (just like they did with Leon, Jill, and Nemesis), I see no reason as to why they couldn't have used him.

Birkin still would have been more interesting than Nemesis. Mutating and changing forms throughout the match is a cooler concept than a bootleg Punishment of the Damned.

Despite those two, though, I still stand by that Jack would have been the ideal pick for a Resident Evil killer. He's human-looking, interesting, has lots of options for a power, and 7 has been out for awhile now.

People would not have liked using a newer RE game for DBD, at least not in the first chapter. If they wanted to do another RE chapter, I think 7 and 8 are on the table, but it HAD to be a classic monster for the first. I like Heisenberg (he doesn't have UNO tho) but Nemesis, Tyrant or Birkin were the big three.

I don't think they could have done Birkin correctly with the limitations DBD has. They COULD have done Nemesis correctly, but he's just kinda meh and I can't even really play him since I'm on Console.

  • @QwQw said:

Yeah, Nemesis is but a shadow of himself in this game. Which is why they never should have picked him for the RE killer. There are so many better candidates like Birkin, Jack, and Heisenberg; but nope, they picked Nemesis just because he was popular.

They definitely couldn't have used Heisenberg.

I think it was Birkin or Nemesis and I just don't think Birkin could've been done correctly.

Sorry, but killer is easy as hell. You have to kill 4 survs, your objective is not to finish the match with 0 gens done

You obviously misunderstood what they said.

Is it not ridiculous that it is fairly common that in the time it takes a Killer to down ONE Survivor (8% of their objective), the Survivors often complete 40% of theirs.

    Does that not seem unfair?

  • @gammatsunami said:

Im over it. I am stuck in the solo low rank survivor queues, and I swear most killers are high ranks who have deranked.

Rank 19 killer, with all purple perks, meta builds and 500 hours in the game. Sure.

It might get to the point eventually where they need to drop old gen consoles.

Unlikely when games like Battlefront II run perfectly fine on current-gen systems.

The issue lies with DBD, not the Console's.

The code probably won't let them do that.

    @not_Queen said:

Over the past six months, we have allocated strike teams with the mission of improving the overall health of the game. As announced last December, we have developers working on a new matchmaking algorithm which we are actively testing and are almost ready to deploy. We are also targeting to migrate the game to dedicated servers by the end of summer 2019.

This blog post is meant to update you on the efforts put on optimization, which aim to enhance the overall game’s performance.

When we first released Dead by Daylight back in 2016, we targeted 30 FPS on our minimum spec. Up until recently, we optimized the game in bursts; for the console launch and before releasing a new Killer. We are now ready to set a new performance target: Dead by daylight will run at 60 FPS on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and minimum spec PCs.

Reaching 60 FPS on Dead by Daylight is not an easy task. It is a multifaceted iterative process that started six months ago and will be ongoing for months. Our strike team of programmers dedicated to optimizing the game has their hands deep into the game code. To summarize, optimization improves the frame rate by using less CPU and GPU cycles to update and render the world faster without any apparent loss of quality.

See below for a high-level view of our optimization roadmap.

STEP 1: UPDATE TO UNREAL ENGINE 4.20

Target: Chapter 10 and incremental changes with every engine update (update to 4.21 is planned for chapter 11)

The engine update was a necessity to move forward with the optimization process.

All the Unreal engine features below gives us additional tools and means to enhance the performance of the game: the new Apex integration (dynamic mesh simulation), RHI/Render thread split, Epic’s mesh reduction tool & improved animation thread tooling are just a few examples.

STEP 2: CPU, GPU AND CONTEXTUAL OPTIMIZATIONS

    Target: Chapter 11 and ongoing

This is the core of the work to improve the performance and the game’s frame rate.
There are many opportunities for optimization, but here are the three main pillars overarching our efforts:

CPU optimizations: improving the game’s baseline systems

This is where the game world is simulated (interactions, character navigation, perks and powers). We will be converting our slowest gameplay blueprints to C++ which should, in specific cases, run ten to two hundred times faster. We are also moving from a tick-based system to an event-based-system. A tick-based system is much more demanding, as it constantly pokes the CPU to know when to trigger an action, while an event-based system can enable an event only when necessary and therefore reduce the stress on the CPU.

    GPU Optimizations: Overall Graphic Optimizations

The GPU is where the game world is rendered into an image which is then drawn on the screen. The optimization actions listed below mainly affect the game’s visual representation. The objective is to render the world faster without sacrificing quality. We will be updating our anti-aliasing system to TXAA and moving the SSAO to a compute shader, simplify our shadow pass, optimize character outlines, improve LODs, slim render passes, bake more lights, use imposter rendering for specific objects (trees, grass) and more.

Contextual Optimizations: Performance Spikes for Specific Actions

We are working on optimizations that pay at any given time when you play (as mentioned above under GPU/CPU) but we also know there are specific actions and/or Killers that will need extra optimization. These are problematic cases where we see major hitches in performance. Here are a few examples: multiple characters moving in close quarters, specific Killer slow down, perks combination, etc.

STEP 3: UPDATING OUR GUIDELINES AND PROCESSES

    Target: Chapter 12 and ongoing

While we optimize the existing gameplay and graphic systems, we develop better tools and methods to implement new features. When we have a new process figured out, it is documented and shared with our development team who can then apply these learnings for the creation of new content.

Our objective is to offer a better performance on all platforms, making the game look smoother and the controls more reactive. Still, doing such majors changes all at once (game engine update and rewriting game code) is bound to briefly disrupt things and require some adaptation time. We hope you understand that this is a transition period and an investment to improve the game.

Don’t hesitate to share your feedback on our forums or social media if you encounter an issue. Our objective is to keep you updated on our progress in the coming months. The upcoming Dead by Daylight anniversary will be a great timing to give you additional visibility on our progress.

    See you in the fog,
    The Dead by Daylight team

    UPDATE #2 (SEPTEMBER 1)

    @MandyTalk posted this reply:

"If you don't keep this thread on topic, it will be closed.

When we have information we will post it."

So here's asking to all the new comers: please, don't spam and remain in-topic as much as possible. The new patch is almost here and it would be a shame to not have this topic ready to discuss if and what changed. Thank you guys!

    UPDATE #1 (August 28)

Q: did BHVR acknowledge the consoles problem?

A: NO. The only thing that BHVR did in this topic was to say, and I quote from @PatBrutal, "Just so you know, we've shared the thread with the team and they're going to take a look at it."

The reply from Pat was on August 13th, and since then we haven't received any update on the matter. We currently don't know:

    • if the Dev Team actually did read the post
    • if they understand there is a frame rate problem
    • if they are willing to work on the problem
    • if they are able to work on the problem
    • if the problem has any priority over other work
    • if yes at all of the above: when the issues are expected to be resolved

Aside for the (non existent) public communications here on the forum, today there has been a tweet from the DbD official account that states as follow:

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/LNGBR0C61IDY/image.png

notice the post is not talking about any improvement over the current fps on console, just that they apparently acknowledge console need special care for the graphical update.

if BHVR should ever decide to give any new public statement on the matter, it will be posted as a new update.

    -----------------

    ORIGINAL POST (august 5)

There are plenty of feedback on the optimization sub board but I don't see any reply from BHVR, so, once again:

are you aware that fps on console (PS4, at least) degraded A LOT since 4.1.0 when playing as killer?

Here, I'll post you a video from today on Hawkins, it's basically a slide show every time a survivor is on screen.

    https://www.twitch.tv/videos/701472489

    (if it doesn't open: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/701472489)

as a comparison, here's the same map (different killer, but trust me, it's not the Oni the problem), but from one month ago

    https://www.twitch.tv/videos/665197944

    (again: direct link is https://www.twitch.tv/videos/665197944)

The frame rate obviously is still far from optimal, but it's a great deal better than how it is now.

Can you, @Peanits , @Almo or whoever else at least say "yes, we know, expect a fix soon / buy a pc you filthy console peasant"?

EDIT: bonus video - Hillbilly on a very open (and not very elaborate, polygonally speaking?) map.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xvi3tYBSOA

The framerate is certainly better than on Hawkins, but as you can see every time there's a chase, maybe at T-L walls, everything goes south.

I don't know if it was worst for others on Xbox One, but at the very least, at this point, the whole of the gaming industry is moving on from last generation and is going to be focused on the current generation. Once more consoles are made and vultures stop snapping them up as quickly, I'm getting an Xbox Series X. The Devs have done all they can with the time they have. Yes, they get weekends off, which isn't industry standard, but that is their company choice.

    Tl;dr Sorry, but grow up.

Lmao, current gen systems are perfectly capable of handling DBD. The issue is that the Devs appear to be unwilling or unable to fix the underlying issue.

When Battlefront II, Battlefield V, Warzone and Red Dead 2 all run better than your game and LOOK LIGHTYEARS better, there's an issue.

I can, of course, post videos demonstrating this. Likewise, if you think I'm editing them or being deceitful, I can stream both games live from my One X.

Go ahead and try to get a PS5 or Series X.

I'd say 85% of people are on current-gen still.

Besides, DBD should run fine on those Consoles.

Yes, because all it takes is just doing it.

Apparently, whenever a game has a bug and it's not fixed instantly, it's because the devs are eating pizza and drinking beer. Not because it takes time to figure out just where the bug is in the code, figure out how to fix it, then fix it, and finally push the fix live on the various platforms...

Nope! They just need to be bothered to 'fix it'. Like coding is some magical profession where magic words are said and poof; fixed! 🙄

Regardless, this has been going on for 3 years.

The Devs have known about this issue for quite some time, and the travesty of the RE patch is just a culmination of years of ignorance.

It is absolutely unacceptable that they knew about these performance issues on Console but pushed the patch out anyway.

The bottom line is that the Devs promised 60 FPS and there's been radio silence for years, now we have enormous issues
