I'm not sure if anyone would consider urban folklore/myths as "modern" and "iconic" as well of creepypasta, but there are quite a lot of good opportunities there. SCP's? SlenderMan? Wendigo? Voodoo? There are a LOT of choices that I'm honestly surprised DBD hasn't explored yet. The best we got was CryptTV and THAT was just cosmetics.
They won't do Slenderman.
Everyone's dropped it after what happened to that poor kid, and rightfully so.

If you showed someone a picture of the Demogorgon, they'd probably know what it is.

What are you getting at with your first point?Bringing up the majority of people doing X is fallacious.
And as for the second, the only other time I've seen a game run as poorly is when I went to Blighttown in the first Dark Souls and that area is INFAMOUS.GTA5
It matters for the sake of the argument. It isn't illogical to conclude that Consoles have more players than PC.
Online or Story? Story was fine for me and online wasn't too terrible.

I'm not even entirely sure what that first point means."The bandwagon fallacy is also sometimes called the appeal to common belief or appeal to the masses because it’s all about getting people to do or think something because “everyone else is doing it” or “everything else thinks this. Of course, the problem with this fallacy is not everyone is actually doing this, but there is another problem that’s important to point out. Just because a lot of people think something or do something does not mean it’s right or good to do. For example, in the 16th century, most people believed the earth was the center of the universe; of course, believing that did not make it true."
As for your second point, it doesn't hold up to scrutiny at all. DBD is the only game that runs so terribly on current-gen Consoles. That is fair, while the point likely holds for most other games, such as ironically GTA5 like you in a previous point listed, it could be the game is just really poorly optimized on consoles.
Although I am not completely convinced that is still the case exclusively though.
What are you getting at with your first point?
And as for the second, the only other time I've seen a game run as poorly is when I went to Blighttown in the first Dark Souls and that area is INFAMOUS.

It's extremely likely that more people play on Console than they do on PC.Just because the parade jumps off a cliff, doesn't mean it was a good choice. Nice band wagon though. (Assuming I even give you this point, I haven't done enough research to know, but it would seem fair considering I would bet majority of people in the gaming community are casuals.)
Are you saying those people don't deserve to have a functional game because they didn't want to spend a thousand dollars? No, I am saying you get what you paid for. If you paid for GTA5 expect GTA5, if you paid for a inferior product, expect a inferior product.
Try not to strawman me as well...
I'm not even entirely sure what that first point means. The average players on Steam was 54K last month. Considering the PS4 has been widely successful and that DBD was on PS+ for free a year ago means that it isn't a stretch to say that PS4 has close to the numbers Steam has. Likewise, DBD is free with Xbox Game Pass (which is a hilariously good deal) and consistently ranks in the "most popular" section of Xbox's store, normally just behind GTA V.
As for your second point, it doesn't hold up to scrutiny at all. DBD is the only game that runs so terribly on current-gen Consoles. Star Wars Battlefront II (which was released in 2017, the same year DBD was on Console) runs extremely well and yet it is FAR more graphically intensive. Ergo, we can logically conclude that the issue doesn't lie with the hardware the Console is packing, but rather with how the game is optimized.

Kinda same tbh. I mean I try but I get burned out really fast because of the issues. It makes me play other games instead after a match or two.
And I love how some people on pc and next gen act like bhvr is perfect company because the game works on their system ignoring our problems and attacking everyone who says anything bad about the company.
Talk about lack of empathy and ignorance. We struggled since the game came on our platforms but now it is becoming unplayable and they act like it is not an issue or minor one.
Yeah, I can't remember a time that the game ran well.

Before this test you lost 11 matches out of thousands, in your words.
I see that as a massive ######### problem as well.
Those thousands of survivors probably wanted to have a chance as well.
You now have to learn to go against better competition on a regular basis.
You can't judge your chances based on 20 games, when you had thousands were you just sailed through and that were evidently mismatched as well.
Your mmr will have to adjust at some point, if it works correctly and you'll be matched against adequate competition.
Adequate as in you don't get stomped on the regular, but also that you don't 4k thousands of times while eating your dinner.
If you feel bad now, it's understandable. But it also has an explanation. You're not used to lose in this game. That is going to change for everybody.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2422007#Comment_2422007
Mmr is individual to each killer. Iirc, for this test they've been calculating ratings for weeks in advance, as opposed to the previous test were they just started from scratch.
Winning that much is absolutely absurd.
However, I'm always looking to improve and I find this to be a horrendous balance issue and now that my rage has subsided, I think that's what I was trying to get at.
They shouldn't implement MMR until they do something about the balance at high levels.

Yes, the current Rank is used for Baseline when trying out a new Killer. Otherwise, everyone would start at 0 when a new Killer is released, which would mean that experienced players would play against very new Survivors all the time, until their rating is set.
In regards to Billy, I think I am experiencing around the same as you, but not as extreme. Before the SBMM, I won most of my games, but yesterday I only got a 1K because of Endgame-Camping and 7 Hooks in total (was 4 before they started trading). And I doubt this only happened because I switched infectious Fright for Shadowborn on him.
I will probably have some bad Billy-games until I am at a Rating which is more suitable for me (I tested Billy because he was bugged during every SBMM-Test, pairing me (and others) with Survivors who played their first game... Despite winning like 30 games in a row).
I doubt that SBMM will be the solution in the longrun. IMO they should just keep the Ranking System, put in Rewards for it, increase the Rank Reset (really, the Matchmaking became bad when they changed the Rank Reset... This allowed Potatoes to stay in high Ranks, because they barely got set back... Before near the end of a "season" you noticed that the overall quality of games went down, because the not-so-good players were reaching Red Ranks, since they take longer. Now this is basically the case all the time..) and tweak the Emblem-System. The Emblem-System itself is not bad, it just needs a few tweaks.
I agree.
The Ranks got worse when they adjusted Reset.
I do not understand why they don't at least TRY to revert that change and see where it goes. Seems a lot simpler than designing a new system which may or may not work.

@Aneurysm said:
I watched two of your blight games with that same 4-man. It seems to be more of a balance issue than a matchmaking one. You said yourself you doubt anyone else could've done much in the same situation (you did get a bit screwed with maps, lubed up objects and general console performance and limitations tbf) but that team and others like them will still be in the matchmaking pool without MMR, just that whole bad experience will be outsourced to someone else, likely someone with even less of a chance of handling them.
So maybe deathsquads are more the issue than matchmaking, we just share the burden more when MMR is off.
I'm afraid I got too pissed during those matches and I honestly can't remember what I said.
I hope I didn't sound too stupid

I mean, only losing 11 games in over half a year (assuming you are playing on a regular basis) shows that you versed Survivors who are not your skill level before. Quite similar to Dowsey with Twins IMO, both of you faced Survivors who are not good enough (and the average Survivor is not good), so your Ratings increased, because you never met Teams who were strong enough (or only 11 times in your case).
Now you have a Rating which is too high for average Players, so you only play against really good players. (Simliar to Dowsey, even tho, he had a competitive team to snipe him to lower his Rating)
So with SBMM, this means you have to endure some stomping until you are at a Level where you actually should be with Blight (or probably lower, if you get stomped really hard), before you face Players who are actually your Skill Level, which will probably be above average, but not over the top like currently.
And yes, this is a big flaw of the Matchmaking Rating and I really dont know why the Devs try to bruteforce it. There will be many Killers who will experience the same, they have a Killer which they like (which is not Nurse or Spirit), so they have experience with that Killer, win a lot of games and if SBMM drops, they rating is super-high and they only verse very high skilled SWFs.
IMO after this test, the only thing about SBMM I want to read is "it is not working as intended, we are scrapping it", but it wont happen. My games are somewhat normal with most of the Killers, but I had to sweat a lot in my Billy game yesterday and barely got a 1K (which indicates that I am too high on my Billy-Rating), but I got only Baby Survivors as Nurse (for a few games, the last game was more challenging). But this is also not right, only because I lose against average Survivors with Nurse, I should not face Baby Survivors for a few games, this is unfair for them.
I just want to have a chance.
If I felt like, "Okay, I played ######### and I see where I need to improve." That'd be one thing.
But it isn't like that. I feel like I'm playing at the BEST of my ability and getting outclassed by the game itself.
Also, as a sidenote, I played Billy for the first time ever and it was a step down from that. I'm pretty sure it uses your current Rank as a baseline.

I had this on the first MMR test. The MMR decided I must be a god and I was matched against really good survivors and I had the same ratio - 19 defeats and 1 win. The second MMR test I also was initially over-rated but after a few games the MMR lightened up and I started to get kills. I hope the MMR is just slowly adjusting and you might get some fairer results. It does of course have months of data on your Blight and if they were all wins then it might explain your matchmaking.
@Pulsar Are you still rank 1 after 19 defeats?
3E with 1 Kill.
Blight is sort of like Legion in the sense that you get a ton of hits and a lot of emblem score.
Also, I'm a Rank 3, not a Rank 1. That was from a match from about 7 PM, but it's the only screenshot that's uploaded because Xbox Live is being dumb.
-
@Aven_Fallen said:
Well, I guess you had bad Survivors before on a constant basis and got boosted to a high MMR with Blight. Now you get Survivors who are on your MMR-Level, but you are not good enough for them, so you get stomped until your Rating is low enough.
I guess this will happen to a majority of Killers, especially if they are kinda limited, like I cannot really imagine Blight on Console being an enjoyable experience.
The issue is that I don't think anyone is good enough to deal with them.
For context, I've lost 30 matches this year. 19 of those were today. I should hope that out of the thousands of matches I've played in 2021, that at least a few of those teams were good. And if they were, I hope that means I am also good.
But this is just demoralizing. They are going to have huge queues and I'm going to keep getting hard capped at this level where I get routinely stomped and taunted.
And no, Blight really isn't fun. I don't want to play Spirit, but I think I'm going to have to.

It's clearly a problem, but it's a very odd issue:
I was having the same lags and fps blips people were having up until the most recent update. However, since 5.1.1 dropped I've not had any problems and the issue is far, far less (I've counted one minor fps blip on Haddonfield after the final gen went).
Yet it's still clearly happening to others, so I'm at a loss as to why this is a thing, unless where I'm located is close to where one of their servers are based. I have an Xbox One 500Gb, so it ought to be having issues, according to the HDD problems they were facing.

Im fine with getting strong teams bc i get normally 90% 4ks without MMR. I just want to see my rating, so i can see how good i really am.
That's false.
You don't need to sweat to be good.
Some players will sweat and never be half as good as someone like Otz or Umbra. Other players can play casually and be better than them.

Let this entitled bunch then get their own (private) server and be done with it. And from my personal perspective also good riddance.
And yet, it isn't fair to doom the people who are good at the game to sit in queues for hours only to be stomped.

Have you ever seen high-level DBD?
It's miserable for everyone and the Devs are probably never going to do anything about it.
@Alphasoul05 also brings up a good point. Most people hover around Rank 10 or below. Killer is considered OP in that skill level because Survivors are clueless. How do we balance that knowing that most Killers get stomped in higher ranks?

So, at first I was super against the idea of an MMR system like many players, especially because of how poorly everything had been from the first few tests.
But honestly, playing last night felt like a really nice breath of fresh air. I definitely got a few more Killers that didn't really understand their power than normal, and a few more potato teammates who seemed to be new to the matchmaker, but overall, I had some really good matches where things felt really fair. I didn't really get many escapes last night, but I had a lot more fun then I have in a long time playing this game, and if that's what I'll continue to see these next few days with the MMR test, then I'll gladly take it over being stuck in sweat fests game after game while I'm running only Deja Vu or something weird like that from Random Perk builds.
So yeah, if the games continue to be as good as last night's, they have my vote for it to stay. I definitely have worries about how it will affect the casual community overall, but I'm also hoping that if this goes through and does well we can also see the changes we've been wanting to see for every level of play if the data is more accurately indicative of skill.
(I will also note here though that I'm very curious on how they calculate the MMR overall, on things like what constitutes a 'win' for either side, as that has been one of my main gripes with the game for a long time- and I would love to know what they support more in the system overall for both sides.)
You know what's funny about what you said?
MMR isn't on.

"They don't have to address anything. See optimization."
True - I guess they don't. But I believe the whole reason why they are taking these steps is to address these issues. Why else would they be doing this?
"They could've just updated the pip system, but they chose to make a mystery MMR system."
Updating the Ranking System we have now won't solve the biggest problems of matchmaking, which is:
1. it only has 20 different ranks, with matchmaking algorithm allowing plus/minus 6 rank limit. In other words, a Rank 10 player can be matched with Rank 4 to Rank 16. This system allows the continuation of pretty much anyone of any skill level to be matched with each other. Furthermore, because of the limitation of number of ranks, within each single rank, there could be someone who are much, much better than the other. One Rank 5 player can be in a totally different ball park than another Rank 5 player. This is especially true in Red Ranks, where the rank is capped at Rank 1. That's why there are players in Red Rank who barely seem to understand the game, and players who can probably escape/kill with their eyes closed - because they are all pushed into the same category.
2. the "Rank Reset" each month allows much better players to curb-stomp newer players until they are back in the red ranks - giving awful impression to the newer players about this game. The reason we have a "Rank Reset" is because, given enough time, too many people of differing skill level will end up in the red ranks (emphasizing the first problem above) but from new players perspective, this is a deal-breaker, which is part of the reasons (albeit a tiny part) why this game can't seem to retain new players.
SSMR should bypass both of these problems.
And our current system doesn't ######### over new players?
Also, BHVR literally said they'd get 60 FPS on Xbox One and PS4 2.5 years ago.
