  • Try Hag if you want to have a chance of winning every game.

If you wanna just mess around, totally do Leatherface and just spam ur saw even when not in chase, it's hilarious.

I remember coming across a Oni a few times, back when no mither challenge was a thing. Which well that was fun times. Thankfully, i doubt anyone is doing that challenge anymore. So most should be able to learn how to loop Oni around the normal way. Since before he get his power. He is basically the same as any other killer. Just loop him normally, since you can take what you learn from other killers and use it against Oni while he is still powerless.

Yeah i think alot of people if they took the time to play the killers they hate. Would often learn or figure out, oh hey, they do have a weakness and are not unbeatable. That or look up guides on say youtube, to help learn what you should do when facing a certain killer. They would learn, oh yeah this is not some unstopable force of evil but rather a killer that has both their upsides and downsides.

Yep, learnt the most effective tactic against Oni after facing survivors who used it on me.

This is offtopic but is Oni hard to play for new players? I was thinking about buying him after I've leveled Billy.

He's not too hard, it's the fact that you don't need to hold W and can just strafe using A and D that I didn't know. Once I realised that, I mastered turning with him and he was pretty easy after that. You just need to get your head around that and figure out some demon dash mindgames.

How often do the orbs spawn? Maybe they could just nerf that time slighty.

4 seconds. I'd say it's decent, since 5 would be too long to get momentum off it.

Yeah i have no idea what is with all the Oni nerfs threads lately. Since he does have a clear weakness when using his ability. Tight turns and corners. Been able to use that to loop an Oni a fair bit on maps like hawkins. That and Oni early game is rather weak, while having a strong mid to late game. That and the longer you can deny Oni that first hit, the worst the game becomes for Oni. That and having played a bit of Oni myself, it does take some skill to aim that club, since i lost count of how many times i would hit a wall or something else rather than the survivor i was aiming for. It's not free downs as the op is making it out to be. Still got learn how to aim with that thing. That and Oni, needs to earn his power, to earn that ability to one shot. Just like how Myers needs to stalk to get to tier 3 or Ghostface needs to stalk to get that expose effect.

Which honestly, all of these nerf Oni threads just make me question. If Oni is op, what the heck is BIlly then?

Yeah, I abuse the corners thing if I get Lerys, I remember one time I looped a decent one for his WHOLE power (no addons tho) in one area of Lerys using only a window and corners. People just want good killers to be nerfed, hence the Spirit and Hag complaints accompanying him.

Also, yeah, he's not easy to play, it took me a decent amount of effort to pick him up and play him properly. Oni is fine. People just can't get over the fact that he has to be good to beat them.

I find him unfun to play too, it feels cheap when I can get a free down just because I used my basic attack before hand.

Wdym? He's a ton of fun.

Also, Oni is balanced, doesn't need nerfs.

  • For me, it is Sprint Burst, just because it's super useful for being in unsafe zones (and I get caught in them by a Billy or Oni a LOT) so SB can really come in clutch. Although, Lithe would be second (by a long shot, since SB is that good for me) cause I don't like wasting pallets at all (I'm very greedy and it leads to me dying at times where I shouldn't but at least a pallet was saved), and Lithe can really help with making that distance to not waste jungle gyms. Only reason I switched it out was because my, for the most part, idiotic teammates camp all pallets and create huge deadzones... Against a freakin' Billy.

  • @ABannedCat said:

In the latest developers stream they said they are making hit detection serverside. Once thats done Dead Hard will be superior to any other exhaustion perk, because you can just braindead react to killer's swing now.

Nah, SB is and will probably always be stronger.

  • @AvisDeene said:

Spine Chill and Urban Evasion are a must for stealth play. Saved me so many times from Mr Cowboy and Ghostface. Calm Spirit is good against Doctor and I think Infectious Fright and maybe Iron Maiden (I think). Inner Strength is good for a quick heal in combination with Quick and Quiet. I just wish you could stack two totems with Inner Strength.

It's already really strong, allowing it to stack 2 totems would probably break the perk.

  • Peer into history looks REALLY strong on killers that can get close easily like Myers or Hag. But it doesn't look that OP to me, but perhaps it would work in practice without being OP.

The killers power seems interesting, the traps thing can be really strong, but since they're slower with the movespeed, I don't think it'd be oppressive, but this killer would be pretty strong in indoor maps. It's interesting, I'd love to see it in the game actually. It could be a cool idea.

That's funny. Meanwhile I've made a post detailing exactly why I find 110% Killers to be fundamentally better than 115% Killers.

The reasoning being that by being 110% they can afford to lean into their power more for chases and general mobility, which allows them to break up the usual chase dynamics for something more interesting.

Yeah, most the top tier killers are actually slower killers, with the only exceptions being Billy and Oni.

  • 'Broken' as in OP or 'Broken' as in they function differently to how they should (if that makes sense).

OP kind of broken wise, not any.

The other kind of broken, Huntress with the hitboxes and Nurse with the bugs.

Have you considered that maybe Tru3 just isn’t as good as you think? The narrative he uses is that any game he doesn’t win easily is due to a “4 man stretched screen optimal bully squad”. How often do you hear someone like Zubat rant and rave constantly about having no chance against survivors? Are we really going to believe Tru3 is the one streamer who gets nothing but 4 man death squads? Just think about it, hes in the business of making himself look good.

Yeah, not Tru3, he's not the best. Although he was a good Spirit at a point, but not the best.

Huntress can snowball at any point in the match and Myers has to hope they’re all grouped up when he pops his EW III. Plus Huntress has very wonky hatchet hitboxes so she’s basically throwing refrigerators at survivors. Huntress is just better in a chase than Myers is. An average player will do better with Myers but if it’s a GOOD Huntress played to her full potential then she’s going to win more frequently.

And I think Deathslinger is better than Huntress is.

If anyone ranked Myers above Doc I wouldn’t disagree. They’re interchangeable to me personally.

Actually, fair point. Huntress has almost unlimited potential, hence why she's pretty much everywhere in tier lists. She's similar to Nurse in that sense. But if her hitboxes were accurate... Then I wonder if she'd even be played, or if she'd become like Nurse: strong in the right hands, weak in the wrong hands.

But Deathslinger definitely isn't better than her imo, I highly doubt that. He's only good for 1v1s and sneaking up on survivors.

To me, I'd put Myers (still because I also think Myers has a lot of potential too, but is easier to play) above Huntress, then it's Freddy (don't think Freddy is as good as Huntress or Myers tbh) then it'd probably be 'Slinger then Doc. But that's my opinion of course.

  • @kazakun said:

I don't know. I think I'd say mid tier too...but has a lot of potential in the right hands. You can say that about almost any of the non garbage killers though. His stalk is good for the Blendettes and Urban Evaders, especially on certain maps. Not sure if it was always like that, but he's really good on Yamaoka Estate where they like to hide in the grass. I played him a long time ago and thought he was garbage (I prioritize speed or range) and I got two 4ks in a row when I used him yesterday. First 4k in a good while,if I'm being honest. For me it's easier to see which ones aren't good as opposed to ranking who is the best lol.

Fair enough. I still think Myers is one of the best though.

  • @MegMain98 said:

Myers was at one point a top tier killer but more killers have released after him that are simply better like Huntress, Spirit, Plague, Oni, and Deathslinger. Then the Freddy and Doc rework pushed them a lot further up the tier list.

At BEST I put Myers a spot below Plague. I think Myers has one of the best snowball potentials in the game and is a great killer but he is very susceptible to being pallet looped. He has no way to cut off pallet loops. He can easily negate window loops with his faster vaulting speed (especially with Bamboozle) though.

I think Myers is still a great killer but he has no map pressure and no way to stop pallet loops, he has to rely on snowballing the entire team which is harder for him than it would be for a killer like Oni.

You think Deathslinger and Huntress are better? I've always seen Myers as better than Huntress tbh purely because of his power's nature, and by default Deathslinger too. Doc is strong now, but he's not as good as Myers imo.

Except that Freddy doesn't cause Hindered. Not that he really needs it what with the higher speed, but...yeah. But another character being better doesn't suddenly make another character worse. Like, personally, I don't like the snares. I've never gotten much use out of them. I actually prefer the pallets.

What are you waffling about? Freddy does cause hindered with his snares. His existence is making Clown worse.

Would also be toxic when playing SWF against her. Items countering specific killers is pretty outdated imo, and it's dumb that it gets to do that when it's already one of the strongest items.

Plus, they'd have to buff her even more if they wanted her to be viable. Just look at Hag, when flashlights aren't present to destroy her traps, she's arguably got the best and most versatile power. Doubt Hag would've even been buffed if flashlights never affected her traps.

  • I said deathslinger because of his quickscope mechanic btw.

  • Probably when they have powers which require no interaction from the survivors' side. For example, Legion, or Deathslinger. It's more fun to face killers like Huntress or Myers where you can have a chance to outsmart them, but if they get you, they're better.

  • @DelsKibara said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1294734#Comment_1294734

Oh of course, I'm not saying they should make Clown add-on dependent. I do think however that his add-ons could be touched upon to provide more interesting play with his bootles other than just to slow the survivor down.

Yeah, he should get a full rework to play more like Myers, where his addons change his whole gamestyle. It'd be super interesting. Clown has the potential to be one of the best killers, it just depends what the devs do.

  • @DelsKibara said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1294593#Comment_1294593

I wouldn't say he is OP, because throwing them like I said, is a weird learning curve. It's not like Huntress' Hatchets or Deathslinger's Redeemer. He just chucks it in a way that can make anyone who starts learning how to play him confused as to how it works. Just... YEETS it at them.

That said, I don't think he needs a larger radius. The gas has a big enough radius as long as you throw it in front of the Survivor and not behind or besides them. I also wouldn't want a longer duration as well because I think it's long enough for a Survivor to either abandon a loop or stay in it risking being hit with the slowdown. I also wouldn't want an after effect because that would ruin Clown's add-ons which does give added status effects by being effected by the cloud of gas.

I think what could be done is give him more add-ons that makes his gas more dangerous to walk through, like maybe that smoke effect doesn't clear immediately after you get unhindered, that could be good cause to create mindgames because the player's vision is hindered. I do honestly think Clown just needs a faster reload speed (because that reload is way too long without add-ons) and less of a hinderence for using his power. Like don't give him 100% speed while throwing his gas bottles, but make it so it doesn't feel like you're randomly stopping every time you throw a bottle.

Yes, maybe that buff was over the top.

But they shouldn't buff his addons, his base is what needs to be touched. Killers need to be more like Spirit, Oni, Hag, Billy or Myers where they're viable without addons. Being forced to use addons to have a killer be viable (Nurse for example) is bad game design. Devs should be focusing on the base, and making addons either alter the killers game plan (like Myers) or make them a bit stronger, but not oppressive (like Spirit). It's a fine line to hit, of course, but if the devs were to take this approach when buffing/reworking killers (as they did with Doctor) the game will reach balance more smoothly.

  • @DelsKibara said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1293954#Comment_1293954

Make his reload speed faster and have him have less slowdown while throwing bottles.

Throwing them is already rather confusing enough to learn, since they go on a more pronounced arc unlike Huntress' Hatchets. Making them more like bombs you drop from the air rather than exact projectiles to hit your targets.

His power has way too many drawbacks to be used efficiently in a viable scenario, and sometimes you might have to throw while guessing whether or not Survivors will be on generators. The slowdown is longer than Freddy's snares, so that slowdown shouldn't really be buffed. It's his ability to use that slowdown that needs to be looked at in my opinion.

The devs may disagree with me, and that's fine, they know stuff I don't and if they feel there could be other changes that could be done to Clown, I'm all for it.

Someone mentioned radius earlier, too. I think a combination of longer duration, slightly larger radius, @Raccoon's idea of adding an after effect and faster reload speed could be the way to go. He'd definitely be unique if he had all 4 of those, but perhaps OP, what do you think about all that added to his base?

  • @Diggly said:

Dream pallets are incredibly weak against players who pay attention to their surroundings, and is 100% countered with comms and even more so with Small Game. If dream pallets were base he would become incredibly rare simply because they are kinda bad. Even before the Nightmare rework, Clown was not a popular character in the slightest. He needs a buff, nerfing other killers will not make him better by any means.

Claiming the hindered status effect should be exclusive to one character is like claiming only one character should have an insta down ability, it is such a non argument.

True, dream pallets do have their flaws, don't they. I think I'll wait to see what the devs say on Clown before I make another controversial thread.

  • Nah, if I wanted him nerfed, I'd have just said it. I'm more concerned about Clown. I'm not afraid to say my opinion if I did want only Freddy nerfed.

  • @Enlyne said:

I fail to see how the game is still survivor-sided when it never was for any solo player to begin with.

Actually, no. Solo survivor used to be pretty OP when I started, now it's trash.

  • @HellDescent said:

Clown is not the first killer who could slow survivors down with his power

I mean in the base kit, lol. Not the hindered addons.

  • @ALostPuppy said:

I think with both the feather addons that reduce the cooldown between throws, that recovery phase is near instant and you lose almost no distance when you throw a bottle which makes him almost decent, so having that as his default recovery time would definitely make him a lot better. Then you'd be able to run his slowdown addons which would actually allow him to do what he's supposed to do, which is shut down loops and end chases fast because right now if you don't run those addons there's literally 0 point to using the bottles in an open area, their only use is to force survivors to medium vault windows.

Yeah, that could be made base kit.

  • @Raccoon said:

Just make the clouds turn into puddles when they're done expanding/existing in the air that explode when stepped on (add-ons for cloud size also change puddle size) , and last until exploded or reload.

Clown gets a notification if someone steps in a puddle - Unlike Freddy, puddles do not cause slowdown, but cause the blurred effect for 2x the duration that the gas does (effected by add-ons).

This would allow for multiple play styles, interesting add-on usage, and provide more use for a unique mechanic (blur).

Interesting... So you disorientate survivors at loops once the cloud has gone?

  • @DelsKibara said:

You know? This is probably why I am glad the devs are the ones balancing the game and not the community.

Removing Freddy's snares just to make Clown more unique is definitely going to set red flags if it ever is implemented into the game.

Because that would mean any killer that has a similar power to any other killer needs to be changed.

I.E Deathslinger & Huntress being able to down you from a distance with their power, Trapper & Hag being able to end chases before it happens with thier traps, Oni & Myers being able to one down by filling up their meter.

Buffing Clown is definitely the way to go, because I'd rather not go down that rabbit hole if we remove Freddy's snares. And I wouldn't want him to have Pallets as base because I Think they are way more dangerous than snaes.

I was just suggesting an idea to help Clown's case and remove the Freddy complaints. Tell me a buff you'd give to Clown then.

I agree clown cant keep up, and I agree Fred doesnt need a nerf. What I am saying is people arent choosing not to play clown because hes similar to fred, theyre not playing clown because he sucks

It's odd, right? Unless they can give anything big to Clown, similarly to how they ignored us and gave Hag a whole rework (which made her viable) instead of just giving her 115% MS, I can't see anything coming out of this other than Freddy's snares being removed. Plus, his dream pallets are still viable.

That was before the ruin nerf. He fell out after that. With ruin he could somewhat keep up. Still weak but managable, after ruin rework hes completely useless.

Youre comparing snares which are only usefell when a survivor is asleep and only effect a tiny spot on tge ground to a gas that effects a whole area and can be used whenever. The only thing comparable between the two is that they both slow you down a little.

As an example, Billy and leatherface have more in common than Fred and clown do, and yet people still play leatherface (hes weak but at least he can be lethal too).

LF can down multiple survivors in one saw and is great for camping, Billy can't down a whole team at once but has more mobility and can counter looping. Not that similar at all.

Plus, Freddy can force you into dream by hitting you once. And for the Gas, you need to reload, but for Freddy's snares, you can just spam them in an area essentially making them more effective since you don't have to reload. I don't want Freddy nerfed, but Clown literally can't keep up.

  • Yes. Even though I do play both sides and look at it from a neutral standpoint, when I joined the Forums, I was a survivor main (Played killer a little, but not as much as I do now). Literally every killer sided person would disregard my opinions because I primarily played survivor.

It was only when @GrootDude (Previously known as TreemanXD) joined that people started to take me more seriously, but by then, I played both sides anyways so they were starting to listen more.

  • @Dead_by_Gadfly said:

People dont play clown because he sucks, not because freddys snares have a somewhat similar effect. He has no mobility at all and theres nothing lethal about him. I play a lot of both because i like tge idea of playing a killer clown, I just wish he could keep up

He sucks because Freddy does what he does but also has mobility. Clown was somewhat popular before the rework, by that I mean he was played a decent amount.

  • @Orionbash said:

Freddy is definitely OP though. Just stating that so the devs will FINALLY nerf him.

Nah, I don't mind facing him. He just forces pallets down earlier.

  • @evilwithinIII said:

Just because snares are similar to the bottles of clown doesnt mean there shouldnt be a power similar. Like ghostface and myers have similar powers and those are fine.

And just because people complain about freddy doesnt mean they are right

The clown need buffs nothing else and pretty sure the devs stated that they were planning to change the clown soon.

Myers and Ghostface are very different:

Ghostface individually stalks survivors, has no Terror Radius (which I will now call TR) in his mode, can poke his head out to stalk faster, and can be revealed. But he can hide his stain in a chase, and lose the TR which makes him strong.

Myers, on the other hand, gets increased a tiny terror radius in EW1, and no red stain at the expense of being slower. In EW2, he's normal speed with slightly increased vaulting, but less TR, which is an advantage in chases and helps him against loops. In EW3, he's got a better vault speed AND a large lunge but a normal TR which makes him very strong in chases when paired up with perks like Bamboozle or Brutal Strength. Which leads to him being better than Ghostface but unique.

I hate how people think they're similar, they're really not if you've played them both.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

They've said they're working on Clown, which, 2 years later, is great to hear.

Freddy's snares are superior to his gas in most aspects AND he has semi stealth and teleportation, he has everything Clown doesn't have and more. We can start judging when we see what they do with him.

So they do have a plan, it'll have to be something pretty big to overcome Freddy's advantages, cause his pure existence in this state has killed the Clown.

I would disagree with Clown. Can't say anything about Pig, cuz I can't seem to get the hang of her, but Clown absolutely has at least one build that makes him at least somewhat viable. It also kinda needs to be outside, but whatever. Pretty much a slow down build. Bring the add-on that increases tonic hindered effect, and you can shut down loops pretty easily. Then just build everything around that.

Clown would be good if it wasn't for the fact that Freddy does what he does but also has a teleport .-.

  • Not going to lie, been watching Michi and he plays exactly as I used to as Hag (back when I used to play her exclusively). It's insane because I thought I was the only one who trapped in that style and in those spots. Been really enjoying the content recently. No no, it's not "Good Killers". It's "Boring Killers". That's the word I see getting thrown around a lot more than Overpowered these days.

By definition, every Killer is boring to go up against because all of them have ways that can make things boring for the Survivor.

Billy? Leatherface? One-Downs, all they need to do is just close the gap.

Spirit? Nurse? They ignore loops, forcing you to run through multiple structures and play smarter with LOS blockers.

Freddy? Clown? They slow you down, making it easier to close the gap, with Freddy having the ability to have decent map pressure, and Clown having the ability to screw with a Survivor's POV with his gas.

Myers? Ghostface? Wraith? One has Insta-down, the other two can constantly turn off their terror radius.

Trapper? Hag? Both require traps, and both can stop a chase before it happens. Hag can also jumpscare you and force your camera to screw with your movement.

Doctor? Plague? Legion? They all can hinder the Survivor in some way with their power and effects, Doctor can cause jumpscares to appear on the Survivor's Screen, and create skillchecks that go all over the place, Plague makes it easier for Survivors to reveal their location and can effectively make perks like Iron Will useless because of how loud puking is, and Legion, I don't need to explain.

Huntress? Deathslinger? They both can hit you from far away, with Huntress being able to hit you from across the map if she is good enough.

Pig? She can make short and medium loops unsafe with her ambush.

Demogorgon? His shred can literally deny any agency of safety on the survivor's part if they try to lunge towards a window/pallet. And even then it will still hit sometimes because of how hit detection works in the game.

Oni? He forces a slugging playstyle, a playstyle a lot of people as far as I can tell, find "Boring".

Literally every Killer in the game has a playstyle that, as far as I can tell from this forum, is boring in one way or another. None of them are completely safe from every complaint I've heard coming from various users in this forum.

Some are more frequent than others, but they all definitely have had complaints risen towards them.

This is why, and I hope to god the devs follow this, that "fun" is not an objective reason to balance a game. Because every killer has something that can be boring to go up against with certain players. Some of them counter a Stealthy playstyle, like Plague and Doctor. Some of them counter a Chaser playstyle, like Spirit and Nurse. And some of them are decent at everything, like Pig, Freddy and Demogorgon.

If the Killers are changed to be made "fun" according to what this forum thinks is "Fun", then we wouldn't have a variety of killers to choose from, we would only have 1. A basic M1 Killer.

I agree a bit, but for the most part, people just want good killers to be butchered there's only been very few cases where boring killers have been nerfed or reworked, that being Legion and Freddy, although Freddy is still boring. Look at Doctor or Deathslinger, they're boring to face but the devs refuse to nerf/rework them. Heck, Doc was even buffed.

But people also want good killers to be nerfed, Billy for an example. Not many people hate facing Billy, yet he's frequently complained about and people ask for a nerf despite people enjoying to verse him.

However, people do use boring as an excuse also, so you are also correct. Also, Pig is very bad at medium loops, her ambush isn't fast enough to reach a survivor who reacts fast enough.
