Gen speed isn’t in a good place. Survivors don’t want to hold M1 longer, because it’s unfun... but they don’t like tunneling (a strong counter to gen speed) because it’s unfun...
FYI I don’t tunnel because I play both sides and I know how absolutely unfun it is as survivor, but until gen speed gets fixed I will not judge or bad mouth killers who feel the need to do it
You will after 20 games of it. No joke.
As for gen-speeds, it all depends on rank and role. Killer? Too quick early, regardless of rank. Rank is then applied in a similar manner to that of the survivor's perspective. Survivor? Too slow in low ranks, good in mid, pretty fast in red.

You don't apply pressure by "protecting generators", you apply pressure by slugging survivors or putting them on the hook so they can't do their objective, and ultimately by removing them from the match.
My Pig would beg to differ. I play Gen-Protector and I do very well, actually. Surveillance on a Stealth killer is actually really good.
Then again, ALL of my killers would beg to differ.
You find survivors on generators, and you targe them. Done. Pressure applied, and a survivor is off the generator. Now chase them as normal. No tunnelling required.

You are having 20 min lobbys because no one wants to play as killer. If you are terrible enough to lose in 2 mins even with all the second change crutch perks survivors have than i have nothing to say to you scrub.
What second chance perks? You think I run that boring meta trash? I run Self-Care in my builds ffs! The only meta perk I use is DS because of trashy tunnellers, and even then they don't leave you alone.
My numbers may have been an exaggeration, but my point isn't. I CANNOT PLAY the damn game because of tunnellers. It isn't even about fun at this point, it's not being able to do anything to combat unfair external factors, like the Xbox dedicated servers.

Maybe look at why killers tunnel? Then make adjustments?
But why do you feel the need to do it anyway, when I haven't done anything to warrant it? I don't abuse BT, DS, Flashlights or anything like that, but somehow just because they can or because I play a basic Claudette or P3 Yui, I'm fair game.
bHVR have proven one thing before: They'll change something when one side is getting their way too much according to statistics. If survivors escape too easily more often, then bHVR will actually do something about it, but when killers are actively boosting the statistics with false data, by tunnelling, camping and using Mori's then nothing will be done. Same as the Pig buffs that a lot of people have asked for, but Almo has stated that according to the statistics, she's "in a good place".

Ok, cool. So the game has some popularity right now.
You know what game had a similar trend before crashing into the dirt? Overwatch. Bad developments and a repetition of poor gameplay decisions have made that game a shell of what it was, and I feel that DbD will follow in it's footsteps if we all keep going the way we're going.
-
Lately never. Not that often anyway. It was for a time about 50/50, but that is in Green/Purple ranks, since I don't have time OR patience to go back to Red after experiencing that for a season.
Now that I have the Archives challenge for "Escape 4 Trials" I've been camped and tunnelled instantly out of ever game. Deleted within 3 minutes, and back to a lobby screen. No item, no abuse of meta perks, no teabagging. Zero provocation to entice a killer to get rid of me like a DS/BT Flashlight-clicker.
Not even Peanits himself can tell me how it's fair or shouldn't be bannable to just ruin someone's game like that.
-
Yes it is, but have you ever been on the end of a hardcore tunnelling killer? I spend at LEAST 10 times as long in a lobby screen, just to be harassed by the killer out of the game, even with Decisive Strike. Killers DON'T CARE if they truly want to tunnel you out of the game, and it makes me question ever buying into this game.
I don't want to sit in Lobby Simulator for 20 minutes, only to be deleted within 2. Especially when I never provoke a killer.
Maybe come up with a better idea that this ideology doesn't have to exist, rather than promoting a style of play that is only good for 1/5 players within every match.
There is no way that someone can convince me that tunnelling is healthy for the game. I don't care about killers, including myself, getting a 4k for a majority of matches. The game is designed around a 2-2 system ffs. Maybe killers just need to shift their focus from securing kills to protecting generators.

In the interest of civility, I won't be addressing your first point.
With regards to your second point, the game is currently BOOMing.
And how many of those are alt/smurf accounts? I can tell you that 3 of them are mine, I have a brother with something like 5 accounts and know others with alt accounts. This is also just on Xbox. These stats mean nothing in that regard. It also won't stay that way for long when all that happens now is you get tunnelled or camped out of a game for 20 straight matches.

and we paid money to play as well. its not fun to play against SWFs. its not fun to play if we lose the game because gens pop instantly.
So we tunnel. we run NOED. we run Hex Ruin. we camp sometimes. we do what we can to get kills.
Ok, so how does deleting me from the game help your cause then, if it will force me away from the game?
I obviously load in as a SOLO with NO ITEM OR INTENT ON GEN-RUSHING.
The argument that someone payed money is invalid because we all did, as I have stated in my own thread. We should all be given a chance to ACTUALLY PLAY THE GAME.
If the killer camps or tunnels, that survivor has zero chance to play. They payed money, so why shouldn't they have fun? The killer said that they get to because they payed money, why can't I? I didn't fork out several hundred dollars to get beaten over the head by a single player with all the (metaphorical) power.

Yes - I'll delete my account because I complete the killer objective.
That totally seems like it's coming from a place of "logic and reason."
You ever get so frustrated at the world for things out of your control that you occasionally lash out at others? All I have lately is work and video games. And I can't play some video games because of people like you who'll camp and tunnel me out of the game because it's "fun for them".
As for my second point, I have laid out my logic in several threads about tunnelling and camping.
People get frustrated going against it, they stop playing. Other people can't get matches, they stop playing. Nobody is left to play, game dies. You follow?

Their point is that the killer paid to have fun, the ones responsible for toxicity are bhvr. The most efficient way to win in this game is pretty much just be toxic as #########. If I as killer want to win, I could spread out hooks OR I could focus down 1-2 people and garuntee getting myself an easy game. The same goes for survivor and abusing map tiles.
My point is that I paid money to actually play a game. Kinda can't do that if I get instantly deleted.
It'll make people stop playing the game eventually, then nobody will play.
We COULD just not do it and extend the lifespan of the game.
-
Legion wants to spread physical damage, where spreading hooks is more beneficial. For such a melee focused ability, it doesn't contribute to securing downs or hooks.
I'll be covering the issues of the Legion soon in the 3rd installment of The [Killer] Problem.
-
Hillbilly has too much going for him on one button press and shouldn't be declared the "centre of balance".
Camping and tunnelling will kill this game faster than it dying out naturally. George Lucas calls lightsabres a "laser sword", when it's been proven to be plasma, so creators can be wrong about their creations.
Killets have forced the "second chance" meta. Not the devs. Killers as a whole have refused to adapt and resort to tactics that force these perks.

I think that is a pretty legitimate reason. I'm not one to purposely play like a jerk most of the time, but they paid money, and they're doing things that are within the rules of the game. If you have a problem with them being a jerk then fine, but if they paid the money they can play the game as long as they follow the rules. It's not hacking or anything.
I also payed money, and more than them. Doesn't that mean that my opinion is more valid than theirs? Also, why should I get deleted out of a game when I payed money to play too?
This is the problem with this argument. I payed to play, not sit at a lobby because somebody else is a jerk to me. Especially when I don't abuse the system.

You have meddled with the primal forces of nature, OP, and I won't have it!! Is that clear?! You think you've merely stopping some toxicity. That is not the case. The Devs have taken billions of Bloodpoints out of this game, and now they must put it back! It is ebb and flow, tidal gravity! It is ecological balance!
You are an old man who thinks in terms of roles and gamers . There are no roles. There are no gamers. There are no Survivors. There are no Killers. There are no Events. There is no Toxicity. There is only one holistic system of systems, one vast and immane, interwoven, interacting, multivariate, multinational dominion of in game currency. Bloodpoints, Iridescent Shards, Auric Cells, and Rift Fragments.
It is the international system of currency which determines the totality of choices in this game. That is the natural order of things today. That is the atomic and subatomic and galactic structure of things today! And YOU have meddled with the primal forces of nature, and YOU WILL ATONE!
Am I getting through to you, OP?
You get up on your little twenty-one inch screen and howl about Balance and Toxicity. There is no Balance. There is no Toxicity. There is only Bloodpoints and Iridescent Shards and Auric Cells and Rift Fragments. Those are the Balance of the game today.
What do you think the killer mains talk about in their discord channels -- Game Theory? They get out their linear programming charts, statistical decision theories, minimax solutions, and compute the price-cost probabilities of their transactions and investments, just like we do.
We no longer play a game of roles and balance, OP. The game is a college of in game currency, inexorably determined by the immutable bylaws of business. The game is a business, OP. It has been since the idea crawled out of the devs mind slime. And our children will play, OP, to see that perfect game in which there's no call for balance or reporting, ranking system or toxicity -- one vast and ecumenical game design company, for whom all men play their games, in which all men will hold in game currency, all necessities provided, all anxieties tranquilized, all boredom amused.
So 23 is old age? Cool cool.
And no. You're not getting through. I'm over some smarmy brat sayong that they're entitled to ruin the entire thing for four times as many people who ALSO payed.
You wanna talk numbers? 4:1, ratio of survivors to killers. Four times as many people spending money on one side. 1, number of players that can just delete evetyone else out of a game and get away with it. 0, number of true solutions offered up to solve these problems by the devs. 0, the amount of repercussions for these players. 0, the number of survivors that will stick around if this behaviour keeps up.
0. The amount of money that will be made if one side completely leaves the game.
So. Let's talk business and numbers.

To play devil's advocate for a moment, under their reasoning, pointing out the fact that you also paid money for the game doesn't undermine their point at all. By their logic, anyone who paid money for the game is entitled to play however they want, meaning that you get to play how you want (respectfully) and they get to play how they want (disrespectfully).
Personally, I think you're absolutely right, but it comes down to what system of morality you subscribe to. If you believe that morality is objective, things like sportsmanship and common courtesy make perfect sense. But you'll never convince someone who believes that they have no obligation to the people around them unless they receive something from them first to adhere to those kinds of values, because it doesn't make any rational sense according to their worldview.
If they'd stop saying "I payed money, I can play how I want" with "I'm an ######### who doesn't care about other human beings due to my own selfish entitlement", then I wouldn't have to say this.
This isn't about their mentality, this is about the excuse they're giving.

Made up rules? I'm asking people to not drive each other away from the game. I am ASKING people to not go out of their way to ruin my day further than the rest of the world already is. I am ASKING that people stop using the dumbest excuse imaginable which is completely countered and debunked by other player's existence.
And it's not the DEVS fault that you have to try and ruin the game for others because "lack of balance". That's purely on you.

Many people bring Flashlights to the game from my experience playing Killer. That her power is boring, yes it is, but Make your Choice doesn't make any sense if you proxy-camp, it probably won't activate. This means you could be able to get a BT save.
That would be dependent on rank, platform and area of play. MYC is purely distance based, but a Hag can hover at about 43m, proc MYC, then move forward a bit and teleport in her base kit. Add any teleport distance add-on and now you don't even have to worry about moving back into range.
Borrowed Time, however is purely based on Terror Radius, meaning that anybody with Undetectable or a shorter Terror radius can simply ignore the BT effect.
-
99.9% of Hags are too scared to do anything but proxy-camp with traps.
Those who do place traps effectively are still a nightmare and unfun to verse because the trap goes off, my camera is immediately locked on, and I have about half a second before I get hit. Her power is boring BY DESIGN and only counterable by an item that few people bring.

Heck, sometimes the survivors create a lovely three gen for you. Muahahahhaha. Yeah i don't find tunneling or camping, to be a very effective plan for the killer. If their idea is to just stare at the person on hook until they die. That normally leads to few blood points and at least three people escaping, if not all of them. Depending on how the survivors play their card. Since all you are doing is just giving the other survivors a lot of time to do gens and stuff. Since everytime so far i seen a killer just stare at their victim until they died. It normally leads to one of two outcomes. Everyone dying trying to save the person or three if not all of the survivors escaping.
It's not even just not tunnelling or camping, which are the most boring things to do as a killer, I literally only patrol gens until I find someone. If I feel like I've been led on, then I'll ditch.
As a Pig main, I've had to adapt to be smarter than survivors. I'M the apex predator in this match, and the survivors are invading my territory.
Funny thing is that I was going to do a thread saying how with all the "bad" tutorialisation in this game, that the killer's REAL objective is to protect generators, rather than just kill survivors, but then someone presented this argument in another thread and I just snapped against it.

It is not just tunneling that will get you dsed.
I would never run it before but started to with the rise of tunneling tactics.
I got saved the other day. I run clear across the map. Work and get pretty far into a genny. In this time killer hooks someone else. Hits someone else and chases him across the map where bad luck has us run into each other. He hits me , I ds him with like 2 seconds left on the timer.
Great for me sure, but kinda bs for the killer. I wouldn't call that tunneling, I mean I almost completed a genny.
Also I take it by saying you don't need the stress in your life. That you are acknowledging killer is more stressful side to play. And you haven't even versed that 4 man rank 1 swfs with 4 flashlights yet.
At higher ranks, and as someone who doesn't cater to a meta and play some of the "more powerful" killers, no. I haven't versed that 4-man. The highest rank I have been on killer is 8, and that was mainly playing Pig, with some old Doctor and a fair bit of Spirit thrown into the mix. Aaaaand that was also before the Freddy rework.
I have a lot to balance within my life, and this game is more of a casual thing for me. I stopped doing ranked modes in other games because of the rampant toxicity within them. Last thing I need after a stressful day working in liquor retail is for some smarmy pre-teen to tell me to suck it up after he face-camped me because he "payed money for the game". I just want to do my Archives, and have some casual fun.
And I go out of my way to make sure that I go after the person who unhooks, never the unhooked. Somehow I find it more fun to spread the damage. Then again, Reverse Bear Traps are also a good indicator as to who I should be leaving alone.
-
@Clevite said:
Have you played killer at all? Have you been body blocked while attempting to hook? Have you been flashlighted at every pallet?
Have you been Dsed, followed by a head on stun? Have you hit someone only to see them sprint to the next infinite while playing a level 19 clown to do a daily?
This is one game yesterday. No hyperbole, 1 game.
Sure like every one else I am not a fan of these tactics when used against my survivor. But if you haven't faced what a game vs really good survivors is like, then you can't understand why these tactics are sometimes necessary.
Most killers would rather play less sweaty, but if you do survivors good survivors will just destroy you.
My advice, take a killer to red ranks and gain some empathy for the other side.
Yes, yes, yes, no because I don't tunnel, no because I don't play Clown.
I'll never reach red on killer, because of time constraints, especially with COVID-19 and shutdowns affecting work, meaning I'm working WAY more than usual, I don't have every perk on every killer, and I have enough stress in my life.
-
@Peasant said:
Hoo boy, I get that you're upset but the game is designed to be mean, even unintentionally.
Killer emblems reward hurting survivors and not letting them heal as well as getting multiple hooks. This ranking system encourages killers to tunnel off the hook to "win". As for camping, if there was no other survivor nearby they saw and nobody is looping them near you, it's just another playstyle and no matter how boring it is, they're entitled to it as much as anyone is entitled to play a particular killer.
For the "gen rush" survivors have nothing to do except gens. Sure, totems exist but survivors usually ignore them.
The matchmaking in order to give you a challenging experience is designed to punish you. You do well as a survivor? Then it'll match you with killers that are certain to ruin your victory streak and crush you into the mud. You do well as a killer? Then it'll match you with M.I.T graduate repairmen that can finish 3 generators in a minute.
I get what you mean when you feel like you want to pull your hair out, but that's just the way DBD is designed. Matchmaking will keep giving you higher walls to climb over until suddenly you can't.
A lot of people, particularly killers must be leaving or something because whether I'm at rank 13 as a killer or rank 10 almost half of all my survivors are red rank. The game's just not in a healthy state right now.
If anyone tries to use the "I paid for this so I can do whatever I want excuse" be content in that if that's their excuse they probably don't have any other excuses and are just a jerk.
The excuse is just appearing too much now. I'm fine with going against good killers who understand a character, perk builds and add-on combinations. I'm ok with going against survivors who can do their objective effectively.
I understand that DbD is unfair by design, I accept it and I enjoy it. I've played Warhammer 40k for 10 years, after all.
What I can't stand are the toxic people who justify their pathetic existences with this hot garbage of an excuse.
-
I've tried running Monitor & Abuse on her, but I don't really think it's that great. Personally, I think that Surveillance could work quite well. I find it to be than Discordance and it can be combined with other perks.
You could also run Distressing to boost your TR up to about 30m and cover the whooshing sound effect more effectively, since survivors can't hear it when they're in your terror radius.
Also, try Play With Your Food. If you phasewalk while in a chase with the obsession, I don't know if it counts as breaking the chase, like what Wraith can do.

I feel your idea is the best so far but i also personally think nothing is needed to be done about this situation.
The game is a 1v4 so If someone dcs or dies it goes into the killers favor. Thats the way it's balanced. So no matter how much they compensated the 3 survivors and 1 killer, the game is already ruined. The killer literally has to be a potato on crack to lose that game.
There is no real solution cause you cant reward survivors but you also cant just leave them there with nothing except death. The blackpip idea is nice and all but it can easily be abused by survivors suiciding on hook and/or hook bombing because now they can't depip at all.
Which is why i say leave it alone. If it aint broke dont fix it. Rn the compensation is a bit lackluster but its still something.
Well, this is the reason that I recommend lowering the Black Pip cost for everyone. Too many times I've been punished in this game for something that someone else has done. Especially as a survivor with instant DC's being a thing. This isn't so much rewarding anyone for others leaving, or swinging the balance, but adding a safety net to ensure that others are not dragged down with those who would leave out of frustration or a desire to de-rank without waiting for resets.
If I had to pick between the generator popping, or the Black Pip idea, then I'd go the Black Pip any day. It's way more fair for everyone, doesn't cost any emblems, and won't interfere with ranking up.

Honestly why shouldn’t the killer tunnel or camp? Not to sound like a killer main I play both sides so I can sort of see what each side finds annoying. But it’s really not the killers job to make the game fun for survivors they paid money for their own fun. As long as what they are doing isn’t hacking or against the rules and by rules I mean the company Behavior made rules not any made up rules they should play how they want. I tend to play what most would call fair but not because I care for survivors but because camping isn’t fun for me though if I feel like tunneling someone easy to catch I do it if I feel like it.
I paid money too, genius. There is no reason to just delete me from a match because you got mad after being gen-rushed and flashlighed last game.
This whole "I paid money, I can enjoy it how I want!" Is a weak excuse to cover up the fact that you have zero cares for anyone but yourself, or desire to better yourself within the game. And that goes for ANYONE who uses that excuse!

The information that a survivor suddenly, after 3 unhooks gets one shot is not enough for you I guess. Or that you scream when you unhook someone. Or that you suddenly cant sprint burst away when a killer comes to chase you off a gen.
I mean that is what this thread is about, asking if others like me are annoyed by the patronising/baby handholding the game does for survivors these days, but considering there are plenty players that run the DS/BT/Adren/Exhaustion perk combo I guess I am the odd one in this wanting a game to ask something of me and reward experience/knowledge.
Devour Hope only shows after the 3rd token and when someone IS HIT. Same with NoED, but I like but on DH. Exposed is such a powerful effect that Survivors kinda need to know about it. I hate hearing about this supposed meta build, partly because I don't run it, instead preferring to run perks like Self-Care, Botany Knowledge and Spine Chill within some of my builds.
-
Survivor is literally about information and what you do with it. That's just how their game rolls.
And to answer your question, yes. Yes I do like how much information I'm getting in game.
-
Personally, I'd just like to see the Black Pip requirement just straight up lowered for every DC, with a guaranteed Black for if the killer DC's.
If we did want to impliment this idea though, and with how people are expressing concern over the final generator, lock it so the final generator and exit gates can't be opened and increase the penalties for clicking on [LEAVE MATCH] that way they are warned and it isn't 100% abusable.

Game mechanics shouldn't exactly be an excuse for certain elements being lore. They are also being looked at with the Entity's Realm within the context of the game.
So, remove everything to do with the Entity, and then we have a fair way of looking at this topic.

David would literally be "that guy" and try to fight the killer. He'd die pretty quickly. Or incapacitate on of the Legion, most likely Julie or Suzie but almost certainly not Joey.
Claudette would be later on the kill list, but not final girl. She's too smart for the typical slasher style of movie to live.
Jake and Nea would get killed off after going out for supplies or trying to get out and find some cops or anyone like that.

I'd say the Pig's add-ons are way worse than the Hag's. My poor Piggy needs lots of luvin....
Agreed. So many skill check based add-ons that actually penalise you if players actually know what to do.

Ironically enough, I don't see a crosshair being that useful unless you're practicing and learning him.
I've only played him for one game so far, but I notices a spine on the harpoon that acted like a primitive ironsight.
Since I've been playing shooters for 13 years now, it was actually really easy for me to use the spike as my sight. Being able to hit with the shot though, is a different matter.

Why would they? What's wrong with her?
People use flashlights on her traps? I feel that's too unreliable and a waste of batteries.
The thing that's wrong with Hag is people playing her wrong and saying that she's a defensive killer.
I'm sorry, but placing 3 traps at my feet is NOT playing defensive. That's camping.
That being said, I have versed a Hag who strictly used their traps for map control and it was painful. Still better than every single proxy-camper.

This but with Ghostface or Wraith. Sorry honey, thanks for the free wallhacks, hugs and kisses.
*Angery oinking noises*
But yeah. OoO against stealth killers is painful. I've tried to use it like a Spine Chill replacement for matches like that in customs, but it wad painful.

Jane. These Cowardettes are trying to suggest a survivor who blends in, but you want one who STANDS OUT, with her rainbow shirts, anti-stealth thickness, and uncomfortably loud injured moans.
As a martial artist, there's a good and wise saying that I'll share with you:
"The best defence is simply not being there."
Now apply this to the fact that Claudette with base cosmetics is practically invisible on half the maps. You are never there.

But Nurse's Calling is such a good perk! And Nurse is really fun to play... after getting over that massive hump in learning how to get the blinks to work. :)
At least nobody's said SAW chapter, eh? People do seem to love Pig.
-
I'd actually argue that it'd be Nightmare on Elm Street, pre Freddy rework.
Quentin's perks are meh and niche, plus he looks scarier than ANY killer in the game.
Freddy's perks are also largely hot garbage. He was also a joke of a killer until recently.
-
Trapper should start with all his traps open. Plague's buff will be a good change. Myriad of small Pig changes to do with numbers. Lower the abundance or range of the Demogorgons's sound queues.
Lots of small changes to most of the killers.

I'm not the only killer on Xbox. Other Killers can facilitate positive change. I am not one of them. I'm looking to have fun on a game. If that means Survivors don't, so be it.
I play both sides on Xbox and I hate your style of ideology. It ruins the game for 4/5 people.

I'm not a daycare teacher. I'm not "letting Survivors have their fun for a bit." I'm looking to have fun for me and me only. And I've been having a blast playing the way I have.
Then there will be no change for the better.
