but every survivor uses the same ds and unbreakable build no counter to it so make killers have no counter
Pfffft. No they don't! I have Self-Care on all of mine, Spine Chill in 2/3 and Lithe in 2/3 and DS as literally an anti-tunnel perk in ONE.
And you can counter it easily.
-
While tunnelling and slugging are still a thing, these perks are needed. Killers brought the upon themselves.
I also naturally counter these perks with how I play, by not targeting recently unhooked survs and only occasionally slugging early on for early pressure.
-
Obvious bait is obvious.
But anyway Infinite Myers and Iri Huntress are some of the worst examples of "threatening" as there is no counterplay outside of "DON'T GET HIT" and that is far from what DbD is about.
Yes, some killers are more reliant with add-ons than others, but that's not an issue considering they're also good with brown or yellow add-ons to supplement their power enough.
The survivor side of things is dependent on HOPE. If you make every killer an Infinite Myers, Iri hatchet Huntress or do something mental like make the Ebony Mori base-kit, then there is just no hope for survivors and no reason to play.
-
I've tried making legitimate discussions, but people can't seem to actually discuss and try to change the topic to fit their narrative.
SOME of us will actually stay on topic and be civil about the topics too, but we're like unicorns in that we're so rare. Not to be confused with Unicorn either.
-
DISAGREE. As someone who is larger than the average person, seeing someone taller than my 6'6" build is seeing someone taller than me and twice the thiccness is absolutely terrifying, especially when they're wielding a giant sword and a solid wooden pole the diameter of my leg and can do so with a surprising amount of force.
-
Well, it's as I've said in a forgotten thread that about 5 people have seen.
Horror is largely based on the unknown, suspense and HOPE. The single scariest games for me are the ones where I don't have any indication of who the killer is for a good 3 minutes and paranoia sets in.
You kill the 3rd survivor, and the 4th has hope they'll find hatch. They are scared that they might not. Or at least more scared than the 4th after you slug the 3rd.
Spine Chill flickers, but there's no heartbeat. You've narrowed it down to 4 base killers, possibly one of 7 with a perk, or maybe it is one of the other 13 with standard stats but you don't recall a bell, phasing noises, traps, a chainsaw and now paranoia has set in.
And honestly, I believe this is something that the devs should play up more @Peanits since that is indeed the best part of horror, and not just because I love the stealth killers.
Seeing a secret killer offering gives me dread. Basically fear but without hope. Nothing to be gained from dread. Now, if the killer were to NOT use that obvious Ebony Mori on first hook, then I would be cautious and suspicious. Even scared that they could kill me at any time, that THEY feel in control.
In terms of horror ranking unknown/existential is king, but a lack of control and a slight bit of hope is a close second that players CAN use and manipulate.
-
Well, I would say a combination of how people liberally use his chainsaw, and the fact that he has a unique character walking animation/camera that follows the limp he clearly has.
I don't play him much, basically never, so I'm not really sure what you mean but those are my thoughts.

DS get invincibility twice a game for 60 seconds more than enough time to do all gens
Unbreakable counters snowball potential of killers slugging
Iron will make no sounds for free even though you should still have some but nope time to use a perk that just breaks all the spaghetti code and just abuse it
Deadhard free second chance button when you messed up looping or just need more distance
Adrenaline incentive to stay injured to just get a free heal and escape at the end of the game just for having it
And the people that use 4 perks from this list every game just whine that noed is op
And how many of them use those perks for their intended use or relate to "Do bones" being outdated advice that also doesn't apply to every survivor as there are those that actually cleanse totems?

If it's about the term "do bones", then it's about NOED. There's no other situation where it's relevant. You don't get to separate them. And it's not an "excuse". It's the answer.
Don't gate keep just because your argument is as broken as Dwight's glasses.
Again, there's no version of this situation where you are correct.
The difference is that while the phrase is exclusively tied to the perk NoED this is a conversation separate from the balance of the perk.
And while yes, it is an answer it is one that is overused and also given to people who are actually trying to do said bones.
Point is that you wouldn't say "don't tunnel" to a killer getting hit by DS from survivors who abuse it, so NoED and bones shouldn't get a free pass because there are survivors who do bones to prevent it.
If trying to get the conversation back to it's actual point is gatekeeping, then I have iridescent gatekeeper because people keep trying to change the conversation from what it actually is.
And it's not about being right, it's about recognising that it's not all black and white, there ARE outlying cases that can't be treated with the same worn-out statement.
-
Play survivor and watch them pop in quick succession as you're either being chased or hunting totems. Go "OH SH*T! I HAVE ZERO LIGHTBRINGER!" and jump on a generator to try and save rank. Have them all done in under 5 minutes.
-
I'm annoyed by the boop the snoot meme. If I was here for a farming game, then I would have said so pre-game.
I'm already playing one of the weakest killers in the game, I'm not handicap myself further for a meme.

I dont have anything against stealth player, i also play only stealthy.
But the thing is, you complain about things like NOED and other stuff but then you want to intentionally annoy others too. That being said its ok to complain about things and stuff as long as you can give good reasonings etc.
But when we are at it, why should someone justify themselfses for using anything? As long as its in the game its totally fine to use it.
Sure it may be annoying to get moried and to get hit by NOED but its in the game and no one have to justify themself for using it.
Same goes for DS and all these other perks, items and offerings. This war between killers and survivors have to stop.
I also hate that argument ,,every killer who uses a moro is bad" or ,,Everone who uses NOED is bad and relys on it and only get kills due to it" and even ,,Everyone who uses DS is trash and only abuse it"
This things are just not true. Sure some people use it to play like that but thats on them. If they want to do it, fine but then they shouldnt complain about other things.
Not everyone who uses certeins things uses them because they cant win otherwise or ,,dont want to adept" I cant stand this any longer.
That was also the POINT of my NoED thread. It's to stop spouting the same garbage we always do and that there are players who go against the norm.
THIS is alao an experiment to try and subtly move people away from the DS/UB/BT/DH meta that killers are complaining about. See if the community can bring change themselves without developer intervention.
What I want to do is just get people out of the survivor/killer echo chambers that everyone is slotting into lately. All I desire is change.
-
@Demonl3y said:
So you complain about killer perks etc when your goal is to annoy them? Seems right.
But when we are at it. Red hering, iron will quick n quit and dance with me mabye i dunno
I play BOTH sides, and my issues are indeed lately with the community and how they can justify anything.
And it's like I said in my original statement. I just naturally be painful. I find that people in this game HATE stealth, and I've always preferred to work in the backgrounds and do things a little more subtly.

This poster will argue for killer nerf and killer perk nerf over and over again. (s)he only grows emboldened by the actual nerfs. My guess is this player is immerse and sucks at looping which is why (s)he is constantly calling for nerfs since they lack the skill to just play the game.
I did not ONCE call for a nerf on either threads.
One was saying that Billy (pre-cooldown) was too easy to play for his reward and that you could spend a small fraction of the time playing Hillbilly to get the same results as a killer like Nurse.
THIS one is about the garbage excuse "do bones".
Maybe if you'd actually read my posts for once you'd understand.

Aww, I get you. But yea, more than likely they won't stop saying it and itsy pretty much all you can do against it currently. If they modified NoeD someway, I probably wouldn't care because I really don't hate NoED as much as I hate DS, but I definitely understand why you and others do so I get it.
Personally, I think there's other important balances to make to bring Solo up to SWF level of gameplay experience. If they could figure out a way to make that happen, this game could even have true competitive potential. I think all their focus should be on things like totem counters and more inherent information without perks..
There is only one major change NoED needs and that's just instantly revealing exposed.
DS is also fine, but that's also a com.hnity issue, rather than a design one.
At least you've been civil about this. Thank you.

That would be interesting. It would also fit the movie where the pig appears and objects someone to make them pass out.
It certainly would, but then you also have the issue of the devs wanting her power identity to be in that Reverse Bear Trap.
SAW lore and gameplay support the idea of ambush applying status, it goes against Ambush being a secondary power and people would just call her a GF/Wraith hybrid if the dash got more focus, but I believe her power(s) should be at a 50/50 split.

As someone who also loves to play male characters I would recommend standing up sideways when hiding behind a tree. It will help hide that pesky medkit/toolbox.

As someone who plays all female survivors, the trade off for character model size is that I am MUCH louder than the male cast.
Just means that I have to prioritise healing myself.

Yeah I don’t understand the exhaustion trap, the WORST thing to do is tunnel someone wearing a trap...
As for the skill checks, a neat series would be based on actually making the box skill checks worse. Like one to make the skill check Overcharge sized, one to make it appear all over the screen like doctor (think being lightheaded from blood loss,) things like that.
I was thinking a cool ultra rare would require TWO people to do the box together because in some movies you required help... but obviously if you’re the last survivor you’re screwed. Or solo and your teammates don’t help.
An idea that I've had before is to make it so that the effects apply on a successful Ambush attack, but they'd need to change the names to various toxins or paralysing agents.

If you really wanna go down that road, you can play hide and seek claudette.
If I remember correctly, OoO to get the attention of the killer, Iron will and urban evasion, last perk I forgot, so feel free to slap anything on it.
The goal is to lead the killer to you with OoO and instead of looping him you just mess with line of sight with urban evasion and Iron will. It's a pretty hard way to play but it also serves as a way to train on how to lose the killer in a more satisfying way than just ring around the rosies until he gets bored.
I already have a Blendette build of Spine Chill, Sprint Burst, Self-Care and Bond. The difference is that I actually do stuff!

let me get this straight once more
1) Survs complited all 5 gens
2) you were hooked only once
3) you get +1 for game
4) all of it was made in solo q.
5) you are unsatisfied and you find game too hard and killer`s perk too strong solo q is terrible etc
Right?
1) Yes.
2) After getting hit maybe twice or 3 times all game, the last one being when NoED activates.
3) Yep.
4) Indeed.
5) COULDN'T BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH! Come to the forums to see what people are talking about, see a random thread, someone complains about NoED with a myriad of people replying "just do bones", and I sit here thinking "well I do as many totems as physically possible, and killers lose their collective faecal matter when told 'just don't camp/tunnel/slug' so it's time to cease the double standard."
Insanity is described as doing the same task, yet expecting a different outcome. Everyone is saying "do bones" expecting everyone else to either quieten up, and it isn't working. I'm just trying to break the mould and actually get people to come up with something new.

I'm not attacking the perk, I'm attacking the garbage "advice" given in response to those posts. It's people like you who are trying to change the conversation from what it was.
-
Simple. Pig needs them more than any other killer, as a good portion of hers actually HARM her by using them.
More skill checks? Faster removal of the RBT.
Status effects on RBT's? You shouldn't be targeting those players anyway, and if you want to pop heads, the Gears and extra box add-ons are better for that, but they also rely on survivors doing generators. The exact opposite thing you want.
No auras of RBT's until activation? Better do a generator!
12m Wall hacks? Hand over the RBT's! Oh, and your buddy Wraith gets a purple with no downsides, and yours is a pink.

You obviously didn't do the totems because NOED still activated. If you dedicate yourself to doing totems then you gotta DO THE TOTEMS and don't just stop after you did 3 of them. You can do 4 and find the location of the last one to quickly cleanse it once it becomes a hex but that's the only excuse when doing totems.
So I guess you only did 60-80% of the totems, which is not enough, therefore you failed at your task of "doing bones".
Crazy thought.
Actually humour me and COME UP WITH A DIFFERENT EXCUSE. NOT VARIATIONS OF THE SAME THING.

I find it far more consistent if you do bones but keep one up (even if you are unsure as to the total completed). This way if NOED does pop because you didn't do all the bones, you know where 1 is and can easily find it (most likely having become NOED. This is just something I have had luck with playing solo.
Now, the thing is that I WOULD do this if I knew where all the totems were, or rather I'd just break it and be done with it, and the major problem of I am usually the one who gets done in BY NoED with no chance of recovery.
If I wasn't getting hit by NoED majority of the times it appears, then I could go "well I did totems......." but unfortunately I am doing the counter and getting punished for it, only to come here and see the "advice" that I am already doing.
Anyway, good to hear from you again. It's been a while.

I don't actually understand, why does this thread exist if it isn't an Anti NoeD thread?
And honestly, don't do totem's, at least not at first. Leave the obvious totem's that are easy to get to. It's like you say in the very same post, most killers have insta-downs anyway, so really what difference does it make if that one down is made with a chainsaw or an M1? Might as well save your time in solos and go for points instead of totem's, because you already know you can't rely on coordination.
Well, the thing is that this isn't an anti-NoED thread as I have said my piece about that perk multiple times elsewhere.
I'm just so sick to death of hearing "just do bones" as a method of dealing with this garbage perk and would like people to come up with a new reason or line about it staying the way it is. I normally do totems anyway for BP.
That and 99/100 games it's in I am the one to get hit by it, even though I am literally the only one doing totems in order to prevent it and gain some blood points in the process.

Those two words somehow makes the case that I am wrong and you are right 🤣
So sorry for trying to help with a thorough explanation. I understand there was a lot going on there. Here's where I should have stopped . . .
You've clearly deviated from the real problem, yet you reference it several times 👏
"TEAM effort. I did my part, and then some."
So you should be mad at your team for not aiding in the cleansing of totems. Not casting stones at the bones 🙄
Maybe you'll have an "aha" moment. If not, then you are beyond hope. This is not rocket science 😅
You are welcome 😎
This. Is. Not. About. NoED. Activating.
Yes, I am mad at my team for not contributing. But that's not what the post is about.
I am deeply annoyed that the common response to genuine issues about NoED is "Just do bones" and I have had to say that about 50 times now.
So again. It is not NoED existing, activating or being a bad perk. It is that I am over hearing "do bones" because I did them.
I'm over it. I'm not taking anyone on this thread seriously any more because they aren't taking me seriously.

"TEAM effort. I did my part, and then some."

Really, the only way a Killer has any chance at NOED even coming into play is going against uncoordinated teams. If only 1-2 players dedicate 1 perk slot to Detectives Hunch as I do, you can easily knock out all them bones 🤩
Yet you cast all the hate toward a perk a Killer can potentially get no use from, making it a wasted slot.
"I shouldn't have to waste a perk slot to get rid of totems" - You might say 🤷♂️
Though at least you would be getting use out of the perk. 1,000 BP per totem adds up. Especially if you are that dedicated little totem hunter you claim to be.
Stop complaining and do the work . . . even if you have to do it ALL. If it's that big of a deal.
These Killers have a hard time against good Survivors. Let them have NOED . . .
Killers complain about Decisive Strike blah blah blah 😂
Boy do they got it bad.
Decisive Strike - Survivors "Then don't tunnel/pick them up" and "Slug them"
Unbreakable - Survivors "Then don't slug"
ROFL 🤣🤣🤣
We Survivors literally have perks to counter the Killers counters to our perks . . .
YOU CAN DO BONES ! ! !
I believe in you 😇
Lmfao someone actually but on the "Just slug" line.
That was literally a joke line to show how terrible the advice of "just do bones" is.
But yeah, this isn't about me being mad that NoED proc'd or it as a perk. This is literally about majority of killers saying "just do bones" as an excuse for the perk to remain unchanged because there are cases where they ARE doing said counter and still getting affected.

totally this which is why most survivors don't bother with totems. despite all the gnashing of teeth noed still isnt enough for people to do bones. this guy does 4/5 and still cant get one teammate to help. it just shows the Noed is not that big of a problem.
NoED Itself isn't a massive problem, but the design choices that go into it are.
The only change I want to rhe perk is to show Exposed instantly. That's it. Oh, and only activate after 5 generators are complete, but that's neither here nor there.
No. My problem now is the apologist attitude of "just do bones". It's like telling killers "just don't tunnel" because there ARE those who genuinely don't tunnel and get hit by DS.

DS is an arguably much stronger and more unfair perk than NOED. Both are complained about considerably.
Do more bones.
Where's the last one? I already did FOUR.
As for DS, I have two things to say about that:
1) that is NOT what this thread is about.
2) it's all in application and perspective. I can outright die from one NoED attack, where as I am not denied a kill outright if I'm hit by DS.
-
Not really a single funny story, but a collection of hilarious moments:
I run Surveillance a lot, and I sincerely believe that is SUCH an underrated perk.
Whenever I know that a killer is using it, and I have the chance, I'll activate it and wait nearby, in a different spot each time. I also have Spine Chill so that makes this WAY easier. Watch the killer return multiple times, search a different spot each time and get increasingly frustrated.
Did this^ to another Pig once and they DC'd after finding me and getting spun.

I hope then that you got my point on that. "Do Bones" is not a solo q thing, it is still a team thing, like almost everything on survivor side. Or you have to do nothing else than this and let the rest of the team do gens and unhooks. If the team is bad, the result will be bad. Sad but true.
But that also counts to every other aspect. Like fighting against camping needs either team effort or everyone focussing on gens, if the team does both with half effort, the killer gets paid out. Getting people out of basements needs sometimes team effort (or against Hag for example requires team effort). If this is not working, the team slowly dies. If the team is neither working on gens nor on totems, the team slowly dies. If the team is working on gens but not on totems and you can't catch up with totems on time, the team quickly dies in endgame.
And I hope my third paragraph on the last post you quoted gave you a hint on how an alternative attempt might be. Still doesn't work of course if you know where the last totem is and you are the one to show the team "hey, got downed by NOED". But that just happens, like you get downed by an unexpected Spirit Fury, multiple Tier 3 Myers that got fed by other survivors while you barely saw the killer or like you have to eat Moris and get upset when you see it was a green one.
But I personally am happy with my bunch of Hunch games a day where I see that I countered a NOED, although it does not always work out.
I did see your point, and I do recognise that Detective's Hunch can help a lot. But I don't have it as I have never levelled up Tapp, and don't know where to slot it into a build. I've also tried Small Game, but it's audio queue is so VAGUE that I've spent too much time on a single use of it to not find anything anyway OR found totems I already suspected of existing.
Makes me a little reluctant to attempt using it.

I know. I gave you already a new "excuse" by saying "do the critical bones and memorize the rest and cleansed spots you pass by".
My repsonse to him was about that he said, "doing bones is not working or noone can expect that from someone" and I said, that this is a thing you need to learn, then it will not be a problem.
Btw "Do bones" is more like a meme, not an allmighty recipe with guaranteed success, and addressing people that expect to not get hit by NOED after genrushing. As stated before, from survivor side this is a team game, and if the team is performing bad, then there will be bad results. You don't know who you get. I often had teams already where NOED was countered and I only found 3 totems with my Hunch build. Random teams can work out in both directions.
There are just too many responses discussing DS, how NoED is "fine" and all that to the point where it's hard to remember who's said what.
That and I'm almost at the point of getting this thread closed since I've seen all of about 5 comments ACTUALLY debating me. This whole thing has almost been diluted into another "he said, she said" about the perks which is the exact opposite of what this thread is about.

Mainly base game killers + hag and pig
Tip for Pig there would be make sure that at least one survivor has an RBT for as much of the game as possible. Also, slugging someone occasionally puts a lot of pressure on the survivors.
If they have Unbreakable, they're also likely to waste it early.

What I would tell you in this regard is, that you need to learn the game. That applies to every new killer, to every new perk and to every new map. There are map offerings, perks and other tools you can use to get used to any of the new things. Perks to see windows and pallets, you need to play the maps to learn the loops, you need to play the killer to learn the power, you need to maybe learn timing on new perks or whatever.
So you need to learn new totem spots by just visiting the map often enough and check where they are. All that comes either by time or you can force it by running Hunch/maps and burn the map offering. You see the auras, you go check/cleanse and memorize. Eventually you will know where they are. As I said before, I only have problems with Lerys, as unlit totems don't give you any cue and some of the spots you can only see when standing on a specific spots. That is one map of 30+
Btw the way I play against NOED is with Hunch. Just as a rough example to see if this is a scenario that you really really really doubt to work. For me it works pretty fine: I try to keep a 1 totem per gen ratio, so I will always do one of a probably hard to find totem I just see after a completed gen. Sometimes I ignore easy totems like "this one is in shack" or "this one is on harvester" as they are easy to memorize and find later. Also I go for gens over totems if the gens are critical or close to finish, or if the killer applies too much pressure so gen focus is required. This normally leads to 1-2 totems left (at max, if not all are cleansed) which I know where they are. So I won't waste much time to find a probable NOED. Sometimes I even am close to left totems so I check first if it is lit up now.
This leads to many games where I have control over NOED. Maybe a handful of games that are lost and could have been won because of seconds of gen time, that were lost on totems, but if these games actually contain a NOED, then it doesn't make a difference because the killer already apparently stomped the team with 3 perks, so ignoring totems and running into NOED on a decent killer would also cause a loss. But overall my experience is, that I have a working counter on NOED. I see more games where I counter NOED than games where we lose against no NOED caused by wasted totem time or games where NOED counter failed.
And when I don't use Hunch or maps and I'm on one of the 30 maps where I'm familiar with totem spots, then I take slight extra paths to check the typical totem spots I get close to. Memorize or cleanse them. I will not see all totems, but probably 3-4 of them, cleanse some of them, have maybe one or two mates doing the same or running Inner Strength, forcing them to cleanse some totems. That way there is no 100% guarantee to know all spots when NOED triggers, but a decent chance to know where it might be when it triggers. Giving me maybe a 50:50 chance to easily counter it without wasting too much time, just by experience.
Juse a reminder that this is about the EXCUSE "just do bones" and not about NoED as a perk.
My points against NoED are purely to show how flawed the statement is.

I just wanna say that without the existence of NOED, Survivors would never cleanse dull totems again. Gens are done extremely fast nowadays, and they'd be done even faster if NOED was not a possible threat. It is the only thing keeping dull totems as a "secondary objective."
You're right, and that's fine. But we need to just STOP saying "just do bones" whenever someone has a legitimate complaint about the perk because some of us ARE doing bones.
