  • So, in order to remove the trap, it must first be active?

  • It is frowned upon, but there are 4 times as many survivors as there are killers if we go off a basic match.

NoED is just badly designed. DS and UB are fine on their own.

    No deviousness tho'.

Doctor, Freddy, Wraith (somewhat), I'm probably forgetting some killers, but these are easy to get merciless, 'cause they "check" every requirement for the emblem system...

Some killers (LEGION) were designed more with the emblem system in mind. I also prefer it as a ranking system because it covers more of the game than just kills.

Majority of the killers too only have basic and no instant-down attacks or perks, therefore it is balanced around two hits. It is also my personal opinion that instant-downs are HALF the chase, therefore HALF the work and HALF the reward. That just comes with the territory if playing those killers.

It might be that I lucked out with maining Pig, and somewhat sympathising with survivors and their opinions in things like camping and tunnelling, but somehow I've made the emblem system work really well for me.

%60 survivor %40 killer main. So it mean yes. I play toxic too because every killer tunnel no matter what

When I play killer, I never tunnel. I even go out of my way to make sure that I DON'T tunnel.

    Still seem to do alright.

Because both Killer and Solo surv are stressful and unfair as #########. It's sometimes dreadful thinking of playing the game and watching someone else play removes that stress.

Sadly this is becoming more and more true every day.

I personally think the game is in it's best state. All those things suck, but so many things have changed for the better.

    -Infinite loops are gone

-Nearly all the killers are viable

-There is a large variety of maps with most of them being balanced

-Stacking on gens has been nerfed

-Prayer beads are no longer impossible to win against

    -Double pallets are gone

-A lot bugs have been fixed

As an asymmetrical game made in 2016 and built by mobile game devs, it will never be perfect. But it's insane to say that this game has not improved drastically since it's release.

Mechanically, yes the game is in a good spot. It's the community that's ruining the game right now.

  • Look.

You're not wrong, the current state of the game is TERRIBLE. But I have one major problem with that and it is also because of this question that I am about to ask you: What can be done about it when just about all of the problems that occur are entirely from the community at large right now?

MMR is a new system and will take time to settle, nobody is questioning that. But it's the rampant tunnelling, camping, teabags at exit gates, unwarranted flashlights at pallets and abuse of perks all-round that is really ruining the game but nothing can be done about it because we have ZERO RESPECT for each other any more. And there is unfortunately no gameplay mechanic or honour system that we can introduce to fix that.

You want the state of the game to change? Then you have to change the mindset of the community. If you're willing, I'd love the help in that endeavour.

Brought a mori because of last min switch on the 10 seconds just for that survivor, so this is my mmr according to you?

Swap one of them with a rank 5 for me, and that's how all my survivor matches have gone.

Coconut, I get what you're saying, but having to slog through 10 bloodbaths is not great. "Skill" on the survivor's side is more than just chases, it's a team effort. Say what you will about my "skill" in this regard, but I feed off the energy of my team. If they suck, then I won't do much. If they're good, then I'll do well too. It's just how it happens.

  • Monitor & Abuse with duration add-ons for much stabbing. Brown ones work fine.

Ruin to slow the game down. Just a little bit.

BBQ & Chilli for BP to get more add-ons and some detection.

4th perk of choice. I'm running Hex: Thrill of the Hunt for farming.

So, in that case Mick Taylor should be added and a lot of people aren't cultured for knowing a cult classic Australian horror film.

I go through a LOT of horror media, and Candyman has come up once in about 15 years for me.

It's the same argument as WORLD series baseball only having American teams.

I also don't see how a psychological horror character works in a more action/slasher focused title like DbD. Pig was a stretch with the body horror and stealthy kidnappings playing the part for the game, but I always felt that the SAW franchise was more about the ideology and psychology. Well, it was for the first 3 films anyway.

I think a “turning survivors to stone temporarily” mechanic would be cool, as long as the ability had a massive cooldown, and the killer can’t actually do anything to the petrified survivor, and it doesn’t contribute to bleed out timer or hook states. It just simply puts the survivor out of action for a little while, but long enough that it would be a bad play for the killer to wait by the petrified survivor to hit them once the timer expires.

    Great minds think alike.

They'd have to have conditons like "in the red stain" or "Looking at the killer within C meters" in order for it to work........

    Ever heard of mutual respect?

I don't camp or tunnel, teabag, flashlight at pallets or any if that stuff because I have a mutual respect for the survivors and killers I go up against.

Not hard to understand. It's not WHEN I die, it's HOW I die. You do you, but don't be upset when I call you out on your trash behaviour.

  • Oink.

    Killers: Pig, Legion and Doctor

    • Piggy is just so much fun and a very toolbox killer that promotes my favourite playstyle: Stall the game into oblivion.
    • Legion is another stalling character that I like to play, partly because they have such a unique gameplay characteristic.
    • Doctor does give off a powerful feeling, especially with a large terror radius and making survivors scream all the time.

What can I say? I enjoy the longer games.

    Survivors: Yui, Claudette, Kate

    • Yui is the first survivor that I got to P3, and I like her general look. I didn't spend money on cosmetics and didn't have Kate at the time.
    • Claudette was my first main. I'm not fantastic at a chase, and Self-Care is such a nice perk to have on hand for someone who likes to always be at two health states.
    • Kate is another one that I love the aesthetic for, and also has a nice meme build that I have on her.

The number 1 rule of multiplayer game design is that, in even a mildly competitive setting, people will try to win even if it isn't fun. That was drilled home to me by my game design professor. This is a basic human trait that you cannot abolish in a gaming setting. It doesn't matter how casual a game is, there will always be people that play only to win and use whatever advantage the game gives them or doesn't ban them for.

SWF abusers, keys, and mori's are perfect examples: Everyone that uses (or in the case of SWF, abuses) them is fully aware that they are making their opposition miserable and would probably have a better time just messing around. However, the human drive to succeed and, by extension prove that they are the better, clearly overrides the desire to enjoy.

This is significantly less prevalent in singleplayer settings, when individuals that like to enjoy the experience don't absue bugs, glitches and exploits. However, the "hardcore mode" gamers are a clear example of the competitive nature of humans often overriding the desire to have fun.

Essentially, thanks to the way we are programmed, we enjoy winning more than messing around. And thanks to the fact that we have competitive people going against us all the time, we feel the desire to compete with them sig ificantly more than we ordinarily would.

And I think I just condensed a 2 hour lecture. Sorry about that. Still, I hope it sheds light on why the game is the way it is.

It's fine. It's also something that I think that I've heard before.

Somehow, if you ask me what my all time favourite games then they'll all be because of their story elements: Borderlands 2, Ratchet & Clank: Gladiator (or Deadlock for some of you) and even Gears of War 3 I played for the story, but then again I didn't have internet at the time.

I'd just wish that people would take things a little less seriously.

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm perfectly fine with it, but it is purely about HOW I die, not IF I die. Lately, all my games have been trash with hook suicides and hardcore killers or high ranking SWF squads against essentially brand new killers.

It's not only on dbd, on many "casual gamemodes" in games who have a competitive one, some people pressures everybody like their life on the matter, the community isn't on the matter, certain people/streamers/youtubers who advertise toxic environment in game can also be responsible to bring the community down.

That is why I did title it "GAMES were about fun". I'm not denying @ZerLukas's point, but just saying that competitive mindsets are becoming too prevalent these days.

In all seriousness I'm just as tired as you are from the us vs them mentality. Most "OP" perks as of now are fine but people just have like a bad match and come take it all out here and then arguments heat up.

If this is a thread asking the forum to get along I'm sorry but I doubt it'll work, all I can wish you is good luck.

I'm not saying get along, but just that remember what the point of a game is. It's something we've all forgotten and it shows. Too many people these days across all forms of multiplayer game care more about their rank and skill than playing a game. Happens to me in games like Rainbow Six: Siege, when I load into casual matches and get higher rank players just going hardcore. In a mode called CASUAL/QUICK MATCH.

There's being competitive, and then there's sucking the fun out of it all. Don't lose the competitive edge, but don't let it rule your playing.

  • @AVoiceOfReason said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1503858#Comment_1503858

That's the point. No one is preventing you from playing. You can still get unhooked. If you suck at being chased, learn to loop better. Don't try to penalize the killer because he/she is efficient. You have BT, DH, SB and even DS to get away. If you still get downed multiple times in a match, that's on you. They also have swivel hooks. Suggesting that a killer is scummy for taking you out tells me more about your skill than the killer.

So just because I can't hold a chase to the level of Otz, Tru3 or No0b3 means that I should just run the single most hated build, and perks that I myself don't want to run, just to deal with the fact that someone else doesn't want to play the same way that I do when I'm playing killer? Is that what you're saying?

When I get camped or tunnelled consistently, I don't want to "improve" my game, I want to switch it. I don't want to play any more because I am miserable. And this is the mindset of the average player here. If I'm not happy, then I'm going to move on and that's a shame because I really like Dead by Daylight.

You call yourself a voice of REASON but that statement is anything but. "Just get better at the game" well I'm sorry, but that's not exactly how that works. There's a line between needing improvement, and just being unable to do anything. Currently I feel helpless. I'm stuck in purple ranks because I'm good enough to safety pip, but my team are all brown ranks and high red killers. When I switch to killer, I've accidentally dropped to brown through neglect and what do I get? REDS! REDS EVERYWHERE! Now, some of them I can kill, but when I'm put against a full SWF red squad with two flashlights on a killer I'm playing for the first time, then I just don't see a point in playing at all. That mindset to me is bred from the idea of "Play however you want." and it will drive away more players than it will keep.

This is still a GAME and they are designed for FUN, not data entry. I personally couldn't care if all 4 survivors escape as long as I had a good time chasing them down, and it's why I play Pig and Legion. Somewhere along the way, seeing those little skulls on the endscreen for all of 30 seconds became more important than the 15 minutes that happened beforehand and it's just despicable.

...you're saying you're arguing against Devour Hope being hidden, but all you've done is rattle off additional reasons why it should absolutely be hidden.

It SHOULD be hidden is what I was saying. If it didn't come across that way, then my bad.

  • I would like to argue against Devour Hope being hidden as it is a HEX perk, and it does require quite a lot of input on the killer's side, very much like Make Your Choice.

The fact that it starts with 3 hooks is already a big deal, then we have to also account for the fact that you also have to run away a pretty decent distance from a hook that is really hard to accomplish on some maps such as The Game.

Iridescent coin should still be fine with hiding it, as it does require a very rare requirement of shooting from a long range. Redhead's Pinky should show it, since the killer will be super close anyway. No point hiding it.

Camping and tunneling are strategies that anyone can use at their disposal the developers have stated this people paid money to play how they choose not to be told by someone how to play there you go i rest my case. Scummy or not they each have downsides. Next Decisive strike borrowed time life savers knowing how to loop also a life saver. Lastly Again insults won't prove your point you just look like a child try again you started the passive aggressive position we can go back and forth all day at the end of the day the developers are at fault here they basically backed these strategies being a thing and even started making things based off them if you don't like that best thing i can tell ya is tough luck :/

As of now i am choosing to end my conversation with you since you claim to debate but instead start insulting when you actually feel like having a conversation we can but from this point i am choosing to no longer give you attention.

When did I say anything insulting? Please let me know, because I am always extremely careful with how I word things.

I am also trying to have a reasonable conversation, but you appear to be changing the argument and trying to make me out to be something that I am not. In my experience, this is a tactic only used by those who do not have an argument.

All I have said is that the "I payed money" excuse doesn't hold up because there are four survivors who paid to every one killer in a game. It doesn't hold up on a fundamental level.

But for tombstone and tuft he has to suck 3 and a half survivors dry to hit EW3. Meaning he COMPLETELY drained survivors A, B, and C, and drained HALF of you.

I had a tombstone tuft myers get EW3 with 4 gens left but I chalked it up to our team ######### up since I didn't even notice Myers draining me until it was too late. We let him tombstone us because there's no way we were escaping and everyone knows how hard Evil Incarnate is to get. (Most people literally only run that build for the achievement and never touch Tombstone and Tuft again)

I think the only "Busted" combo is Tombstone Piece + J Myers Memorial since there's no movement speed penalty and you can still tier up reasonably fast.

Tombstone/Tuft isn't that common. The one that got me recently was Tombstone Piece and a charge speed add-on. It's still really bad for everyone to have someone just die so early on.

    @OutcastEric said:

maybe 3 years ago but look at all the recent killers lol. Hemmorage as a purple add on on two different killers should answer your question. Theyre too scared because their survivor community would explode if the killer gets anything as powerful as huntress one shots again.

Glass Hatchets also isn't the problem. It's the fact that it's combined with Infantry Belt 99.99% of the time.

  • You think that it's fine to be removed from the game after a minute because the other 3 survivors fed the killer and you just so happen to be hit? Yeah, it does completely change the game, but for the worst. Myers can barely rank up, if at all and on the survivor's side it just feels miserable, not terrifying.

Besides, Ebony Mori's change the game to "just survive as long as possible and pray for hatch, or completely gen-rush" and they're currently the most hated thing in the game.

I'm all for spicing up the game, but Tombstone Myers is a terrible starting point on so many levels.

What does that even have to do with the conversation though that's not at all what the point is there are rules to this game as long as people are not breaking the rules there is no issue maybe instead of being passive aggressive you learn to actually make a point :P

You presented a point, I refuted that point. It's called debate.

If you also know anything about me, you'll know that I'm not the passive-aggressive type on these forums. I just present facts as is. My issue with saying that tunnelling and camping are fine because the killer payed money for the game is factually wrong. The survivors all payed money too, and should be allowed to PLAY the game. Tunnellers and campers do not allow for that.

Maybe instead of labelling me, you'd actually make a case against what I'm saying and learn to use some actual grammar. It makes reading replies so much easier. If you want to play the passive-aggressive game, I'll play too.

Well yes technically they wouldn't care about what you spent on the game. As long as people have their fun it's fine who cares.

When I play survivor I can just play for memes and then mess with a killer pretty badly and I had fun but did the killer? Probably not depending on if they like the funny stuff I'm doing. Doesn't mean I have to care about their fun. Same applies the other way.

Technically you're correct and technically it's fine if someone is fun, however some people's brand of "fun" is boring as watching grass grow for everyone else in the match.

Both sides NEED each other for this game, and allowing obnoxious, scummy and just disrespectful "strategies" or "tactics" will ultimately force away players in the long run. Steam charts and player counts for now or the last month won't matter.

The community is towards the top of a hellish spiral right now, and it's only going to get worse.

So it's fine for someone to play how they want to the point where I CAN'T PLAY AT ALL because of their actions?

Even though I've also payed money for this game, and probably more than them?

Sounds like an old thread of mine I made.

  • Unfortunately this is the nature of the solo-queue and it does even hurt the killer, as they have now lost a large chunk of Malicious, Devout and Chaser. The only thing that you can do in that situation is to try and get as much generator work done as possible to safety pip and hope that the killer is somewhat merciful and will farm a little bit with you and the other survivor so that the rest of you don't de-pip.

As others have explained as well, there would be much abuse with SWF groups in order to get out way easier or even randoms together who have 3-gen'd themselves in order to purposefully screw over a killer.

I'd rather see the Black Pip requirements lowered in games where a DC occurs, so that nobody is REWARDED for somebody leaving the game.

  • @LintyScorpion said:

The entitled survivor mains just want killer nerf after killer nerf after killer nerf. They know the devs favor survivors more, as they make up a majority of the community, and will ######### and complain if any killer have the possibility of actually killing. Sure, I agree that spirit doesn't give that much feedback, but they are relentless with the nonstop begging for killer nerfs even when unnecessary.

After the Sabo changes, pallet reductions, toolbox nerfs, insta-heal reworks, Endgame Collapse and both the Freddy and Doctor reworks, it's really hard to say that this idea is true. The survivor nerfs/killer buffs are generally more rare, but they hit harder.

But, if we're talking truly entitled survivors then yeah they will whine about any killer until they become a joke. Thing is though that there are players like that on BOTH sides.

I'd also like in general for nerfs to just stop and for smaller changes to be made slightly more often. Not Overwatch twice-weekly levels of often, but more than we currently have. Just small number tweaks to some perks or powers every now and again to spice things up and fix issues as they happen rather than sweeping changes that are going to annoy a lot of people at once.

  • There would be a lot of WAAC, or Win At All Costs, players who have jumped on the Spirit bandwagon as she's easier to play than Nurse and about as strong as Hillbilly was.

Survivors can't think beyond looping, in most cases. I agree she should have more tells, but a lot of posts again boil down to 'I can't loop this killer like usual, thus they must be bad.'

Not defending the Immersed playstyle, but when we play stealth, survivors get called trash, toxic and all that fun stuff because rather than trying to escape a chase, some of us would just rather avoid them altogether. Killers can't find them and they get frustrated. When I'm playing killer too, I get frustrated when I can't find someone, and that is also because I like to spread out my damage and hook states amongst the survivors.

Funny that. It's almost like this game is populated with players that have the mental age of a child and can't actually do something unless it's for an immediate gain or gratification.

  • Survivors don't cleanse totems anyway. NoED users have proved that!

  • You went into a mid-rank game with a sub-standard build on an unfamiliar killer, got wrecked by halfway competent survivors and came here to complain that you made things super difficult for yourself and got called out on playing the game poorly.

@GoodBoyKaru is also very right in what he was saying. I'm All Ears is amazing on him for sneaky Punishments, Ruin/Pop are kinda mandatory for slowing the game, and M&A can be useful for closing the distance initially. The only one of those perks that I would keep is A Nurse's Calling, but that's only if you have ways of reducing your TR, or stacking Undetectable abilities.

  • Move my roar back to the start of the dash. It's called an AMBUSH. You don't announce when you are about to attack someone IRL unless you're a complete idiot.

  • Kills do not make the killer, and everyone who thinks otherwise are the reason that the MMR system is being added.

The hunt is better than the kill. Yes, kills are nice but I find nothing more thrilling than ending a chase, or avoiding the killer at all costs.

Hillbilly's cooldown mechanic should have been introduced sooner. There was no real punishment for using his chainsaw before. Not like any other killer, anyway. He was too easy to play and has never been the true centre of balance.

  • Majority of the time I can agree with the decisions they make.

I have had ideological issues with them before about certain actions that both them and I have taken before. Not to go into details, but "git gud" should be a bannable phrase, especially when there is a serious issue to discuss. The commenter I was replying to used it to try and silence me, I didn't take kindly to that. And almost everyone on that thread was disrespecting me way more than I was to anyone else on there. I just happen to try to deal with things myself. That thread should have been closed long before that point.

But yeah, most of them are usually chill. Mandy is also pretty good to talk to on here as well. Haven't seen any of what you have described though. Some accounts though are burner accounts just to insult everyone and those should skip the 3-Strike ideal.

    A. Never mentioned a Claudette, that's someone else.

    B. "Hit people while infected not broken." Again you're saying a killer should basically ignore their power. Don't actually use it effectively, waste your time giving survivors an extra hit-sprint and then eat 3 more pallets to get a second hit. KILLERS SHOULD NOT BE PUNISHED FOR USING THEIR POWER especially not exactly as it's intended to be used. That also applies once per match per survivor unless they decide to cleanse. You have no power to force people to cleanse, and often they choose not to until very late in the match, which means like 75% of your chases are one hit no matter how you play.

    C. "There is zero skill outside of the norm in hitting a normal attack with something like EW3." Except for the staring at survivors to build up your charge to EW3, in which time a regular speed killer could reasonably go for a first hit, instead Michael uses his power and plays exactly as the devs intend and is deducted points for doing so. Oh but I'm sure "just never go to EW3 to be a high skill player."

Plague is an exception to the two hits rule because of her power for a majority of players, and my method has zero real changes. The only difference for mine is is they escape, then they're broken and you get chaser.

Myers you can also do well outside of EW3 hits, but the main thing is don't get 100% of your hits with them.

I've not once said in any thread to ignore a power. You can go through all 2,600 of them and check if you want. What I have said before is you should not DEPEND on it for 100% of your lethality. If you'd take two seconds to take a breather and read every word once or twice, then maybe we'd not run around in circles like this.

Do NOT put words in my mouth. I am blunt, but what I write is 100% of my meaning. No hidden meanings. No nothing.

By farming I think they mean by not participating in normal gameplay, and teaming up with survivors to a lot of points.

Well, yeah, but the point is that if we start using vague descriptions like I've provided, then it's an expanding spiral of bad definitions.

Some people would actually consider me a farmer because I let survivors live for more than the 20 seconds it takes for me to chase them, and if farming was bannable, then I'd be in a precarious position.

I agree with this in terms of powers. If you use a power effectively, then you get severely punished in rank. You're a great player at Hillbilly, Leatherface, Michael, Ghostface or Plague? You just don't pip anywhere near as well as say, a half-decent Spirit or Nurse.

They should receive something like 1.5x points for chaser and malicious with one hit downs from their power, or for survivors who remain broken by infection for like 60s after being unhooked, long enough that it's a choice not a tunnel.

I disagree on it affecting perks though. One-hit-down perks make the game incredibly easy when they're active and take very little skill from the killer's side, so I don't think they should be rewarded as highly as skill using the powers. That said, second chance perks effectively give survivors additional chaser emblems so I guess the case could be made.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1493362#Comment_1493362

That's just completely nonsensical to me. Most of these cases are punishing people who have higher skill with the killer, and you're saying "players who negelect the power entirely and play like a rank 20 M1ing everything are the ones who deserve the pips."

A Billy who wins every single chase with a chainsaw doesn't belong in the mid ranks any more than one who gets every hit as an M1 deserves to be in red ranks. It's even more of an issue with adepts where you're essentially forced to play powerless which shows nothing about how adept you are with the killer.

"Half of the killers who have instant-downs can have one easy change done to their standard gameplay on the player's side and it would stop just about all of the pipping problems. Plague especially."

Yeah, just never infect anyone ever. Great Plague strategy right there.

    Seriously? THAT's your counter-argument?

    Ok. Fine.

I never said NEGLECT your power! And in fact Hillbilly, who you mentioned there, has the BEST MOBILITY IN THE GAME that is also an instant down. Use it to go around the map.

Plague can just HIT PEOPLE WHILE THEY'RE INFECTED AND NOT BROKEN. You get the infection and you get more Chaser. Done.

There is also zero skill outside of the norm in hitting a normal attack with something like EW3 Myers or a Haunted Ground hit. Or even old Insta-saw.

The Claudette you also speak of is punished heavily in the Chaser and Lightbringer emblems for not doing much. They may safety, and I did also say that survivors have it easy with pips. Stealth isn't rewarded as much for the survivor side. And yes, I do play a lot of stealth on both sides.

So, yeah. You've clearly put zero thought into your reply, and decided that I'm clearly ignorant or stupid for going against what you say, rather than asking for clarity. Thank you for showing what a healthy discussion you are after. If you are confused about something I say, you can just ask for clarification. It makes me so much more pleasant to talk to.
