The whole situation with this dlc is unprofessional at best and disrespectful to your community at worst. I get "hyping up" a game or dlc, but letting a false release date sit for 2 weeks and then beating around the bush with an actual announcement is just bad PR.

There was no false release date. There was speculation and nothing more.

There was a date posted on the dbd wiki for 2 weeks. This date was based upon the schedule for clown. A company letting that sit there for 2 weeks and not giving us at least a release date today is "unprofessional at best and disrespectful to your community at worst".

The wiki is not run by the devs, and it was made very clear that it was speculative.

And I was very clear, leaving up a false date on the wiki without a plan to give a date was (say it with me) "unprofessional at best and disrespectful to your community at worst". Bonus points for having their community manager flaunting around the forums saying "soon" to all the hype posts. Maybe she isn't supposed to give us information, but then why is she increasing expectations?

Imagine if they had just said a week ago (or shoot, even 5-6 hours ago) that they have no release date yet, they would've avoided this mess.

None of the devs left a false date on the wiki because they have no control over it. You have based your argument on a faulty premise.

You run a game company and have an upcoming dlc that you know many people are excited for. You see a false release date based on your previous releases pop up on the wiki for your game and decide to NOT correct that date in any way. All the negative emotions that stem from that are directly on the devs, they allowed people to be misled when a small "release date TBA" would've stopped this entire situation. Just because they didn't put the date there doesn't mean their negligence in correcting the date was an "okay" way to handle the ordeal.

They allowed nothing. You assumed a fansite's information was an official statement from the developers - despite the fact that the fansite made it very clear the information was speculative - and are now looking for someone to blame other than yourself. You and only you are to blame for your false assumption.

Careful with the fallacies there, I assumed nothing. I knew the date was speculative, but that doesn't change the fact that it was based on release patterns and left up without any plan to correct the information. To be honest I don't even know why they are letting this happen, it is killing their hype and is going to easily lose them sales.

"Left up" without any plan to correct the information. Correct to what if no further information is available? There was a fat, red "not confirmed" right after the date. If people can't be bothered to read, it's their fault.

The devs are not at fault in this case, solely the community who can't read.

The "not confirmed" was added a few days ago, and was solely added as a "cover my butt" move from a FANSITE. If a fansite is doing damage control then you would think the company in question would have some sort of plan to avert people from thinking it was today.

They did have a plan. Unfortunately, it relied on people understanding the difference between a rumor and an official statement. In short, it relied on people being somewhat intelligent. That's where the plan fell apart.

Honestly they are the worst devs when it comes to actually telling the community about any kind of times or dates. Literally every other game lets the community know when a patch is scheduled to be released several days in advance. If not not weeks in advance. In all honesty not knowing when anything is going live just makes me really uninterested in the game. I'm in college and I don't have the patience to keep waiting and waiting and waiting for any kind of update on an estimated release time. It's annoying because they know very well when they plan on launching it, they just choose not to tell the community. This is either from laziness/not caring or they want to avoid people getting angry if they announce a time and have to delay it. Either way it's still extremely annoying.

    Enough said.

When they did reveal specific dates and couldn't meet the deadline due to unforeseen issues, they got ######### on. They picked the lesser of two evils.

Killing floor is a perfect example because a team of survivors (with guns) are trying to survive several zombie waves. When all survivors die within one wave, the game is lost.

The killer can only blackpip even with 4 kills, just fyi, that much about the "win" for the killer

Run bond for a few games and you will see the dumbest stealthy survivors hiding in lockers crouching in bushes doing nothing while you run the killer around across the map... That's what playing stealthy does to you.. You gotta have a healthy mix

Hiding while doing nothing is not stealth. Play a stealth game or two to understand what true stealth is.

This +100 true stealth isn't about hiding and doing nothing, that's basically just griefing your teammates and leeching off them. If you want stealthy play that's sneaking around the killer when they're close. It's about sneaking that Hex totem under their nose or sneaking past to safety.

I think @Orion and may'be @SovererignKing have posted some videos of really good stealth play, I've got some recodred as well I'll have to upload.

I have never posted a video on this forum, or at least none that I can recall. I have, however, shown stealth gameplay on my stream, many months ago. I often go unnoticed by Killers even when they're walking past me out in the open.

  • Why do you want to bully weaker Killers?

Killers? I dunno, maybe kill Survivors instead of letting them go?

  • Yes, I have an idea - stop trying to dictate that Killers should not be allowed to kill Survivors and should instead play to farm points. Playing your role is not toxic and is not a problem. Killers are there to kill, period.

  • Why are all the Killer "recommended code of conduct rules" playing sub-optimally, while most of the Survivor ones are "don't be an #########"?

  • Nobody knows for sure, but if previous releases are to be believed, it's today.

100% rumor. Nothing has been confirmed yet. The wiki is where the speculation comes from, since it cites September 11th as the release date. That's based off of the release timing of the last chapter, where the DLC launched two weeks after the PTB. Although that's just silly because only one chapter has released that way so far, so it's like trying to spot a trend on a graph with only a single point.

The wiki makes it perfectly clear it's not an official release date, so please blame the people who don't read the warning instead of blaming the wiki.

  • You are asking the devs to remove a skin from the game. Survivors are skins, and nothing more.

People also showed support for the results in marth's experiment, which you also dismissed. I think we've found the root of the problem when it comes to your inability to accept imbalance: you. Because all you care about is your preconceived notions, regardless of what other people demonstrate to be true.

That which can be asserted by documented evidence may not be dismissed a being without evidence. As you'd know if you'd read the earlier posts before yours. I had a running log just to track dc's that happened the moment the killer downed someone.

Which is why i said Laurie's had a 10x higher rate of dcing compared to other toons. That was just over 100 games tracked. I'm tracking all my games both sides now with screenshots for better data collection.

Through 15 games survivor side it's 1 Laurie and 1 Jake. i'm also tracking maps and killers for a breakdown to see if there's correlation by map/killer/other survivor choices. This is at ranks 1-3 currently.

I wish this logic applied to marth's experiment, or any player's experiences that you always dismiss in favor of what you already believe.

Documentation versus a person going for a predetermined outcome and using controls to ferret out personal bias. Since I had documentation of 100+ games and not any personal bias used. When you or someone else on here claims most or all your games are 4 man swf games with 4 dds/fl/sc/sb you're own biases are there.

I say it there, it comes out here. Thanks for playing.

  • Yeah, speculation from the people who know Chinese censorship laws. The Doctor cannot be Chinese because the game would be banned in China. Since it's not, he's not. If you can't accept that, this discussion is pointless.

Yeah, he doesn't really look black, maybe he could be bi-racial? Maybe, but he looks more like a white/asian not white/black nor asian/black. True, a lot of the Doctor's in-game files point to the fact the Doctor was originally going to be Chinese (to coincide with Min), not sure why they changed that.

Check out the official wiki I was shocked when I found out too Nah, someone made a mistake, obviously. Even his WIP name is Chinese.

Why are you hellbent on him not being African American

Because I'm racist. Is it what you would like to hear?

Seriously, because he is not. With same logic you could argue, that Spirit is not Japanese, but black. WHAT. ARE YOU RACIST?

You are forgetting something sir, the words Work In Progress. They probably planned for him to be more Chinese based but changed it last minute for some unknown reason. Maybe the felt the acknowledgment on his teeth would be seen as a racist stereotype for Asians so he black now.

Where do you see he is black?

There doesn't have to be evidence, hell you can barely tell the Wraith was African. A character can have inspiration but that doesn't make the character.

    That is not an answer.

Wraith can be black (although at frist I thought he is Mexican), but Ojomo is a popular African surname. Also his tribal skin with candle on the head is quite African, and you can see that his skin is black.

If we are speaking about the Doc, he is based on a Chinese urban legend, or something familiar, and his WIP name is Chinese. His face looks somehow Chinese too. We have more proofs, that he is Chinese-American, instead of black. Why are you so hellbent on him being an African-American?

It's just a matter of "the official wiki said..." which can be changed, you know. The Doctor's "official" bio (in-game) mentions nothing of his race, so for all we know, the wiki could be lying.

Yep, that's what I'm trying to say. Wiki can be at fault, no info in game, we can only speculate. However, there are more proofs that he is Chinese-American, though, do not why some people are trying hard to make him black.

His facial features - the wide, flat nose with large nostrils, for example - scream "African". Furthermore, while the devs did intend for him to be Chinese, they were worried China would ban the game, since he's based on a real Chinese murderer who, I believe, is still alive, and China has censorship laws that would prohibit that.

There are no proofs for him being Chinese-American, at all. None of the Killers match the Survivors that came with them. That's just your faulty premise.

    https://i.ytimg.com/vi/euJHz-PcK5s/maxresdefault.jpg

This nose? Look at the nose of the Doc, and the woman above. See?
Where did I say, that killers match the survivors? Do not put the words into my mouth, really.

    His is much wider.

She is a woman, so she has a smaller nose as well. If you want I can search for a wider, Chinese male nose.

You didn't, but you seemed to agree with someone who did. I will say that only one Killer in all of DbD has matched the Survivor, and that was the Shape - because he's a licensed character. Original Killers never match the Survivors, so to make him Chinese would be unprecedented.

Nurse and Nea quite match. She did burned the asylum, where Nurse used to work, I believe.

Did you read what I said about the devs changing his ethnicity to skirt around Chinese censorship laws?

Yes, I did. Was it proven by the devs, or was it just a gossip? Also - did they said, they are making him black, instead of yellow? Or maybe he is white?

    Go ahead and search.

Nea is Swedish or something, right? She and the Nurse don't come from the same place. That's what I was going for when I said they "didn't match".

It was speculation by the Chinese players who begged the devs not to make the new Killer (now the Doctor) Chinese because the game would be banned in China. This was back when the Doctor was a WIP, as you pointed out. I hope that a Chinese person's knowledge of Chinese censorship laws is enough to dissuade your bizarre belief that the Doctor is Chinese.

@Orion @RSB To be fair though, haven't most of the PTBs and patches appeared in a pattern-like schedule?

Which doesn't change the fact that it's a speculative date, given previous releases. Extrapolation is still speculative.

  • @Peasant said:
@Orion It may be speculation, to be honest.

Since you're not sure, I'm going to assume you're going off of speculation. 11/09 was just the most likely date given previous releases.

  • Did the devs actually say this, or is it just speculation?

This nose? Look at the nose of the Doc, and the woman above. See?
Where did I say, that killers match the survivors? Do not put the words into my mouth, really.

    His is much wider.
You didn't, but you seemed to agree with someone who did. I will say that only one Killer in all of DbD has matched the Survivor, and that was the Shape - because he's a licensed character. Original Killers never match the Survivors, so to make him Chinese would be unprecedented.

Did you read what I said about the devs changing his ethnicity to skirt around Chinese censorship laws?

There have been endless suggestions, mainly revolving around new mechanics and buffing Killers, but the devs have stuck to their roadmap, so we'll just have to wait and see. I even made a thread showing why chases are too long, but some people became confused by it.

you still have a link to that thread m8 id like to read it.

I dont understand what is so hard to understand about it xD just sounds like survivors trying to over complicate the fact they always have the advantage no matter what perks are chosen in the end. thanks for the link btw bb.

PPS: Sorry to post so much at once. Things I just keep forgetting to add.

OP. You call it an experiment and yet refuse to account for every variable except for those closed within youe tiny confines of a scenario... But an experiment, by definition, is to control specific variables so that you can then test the many other variables that vary. Cause, you know, variables are things that are able to vary... It's in the name. Come on, I know you can do type type and the write write so surely you must understand the words you're using.

You did not use mathematics to confirm anything. You calculated the travel time between two objects moving at different speeds. Then that suited the role of confirmation bias all too well.

Just like I did above, I can put your same variables in a different linear of one survivor after another and you have three easy hooks in the time only a single gen is popped.

Apparently, the fact that I didn't take into consideration the hundreds of variables that make the game more Survivor-sided was somehow relevant to my "best case-scenario for the Killer is still bad for them" point. And here I thought that when someone showed the best case-scenario for one side was bad, it was proof that that side needed a buff. Go figure.

No the fact that you chose a scenario that fit your preconceived outcome was the issue.

You were shown different things that could be taken into account such as grabbing someone off a gen and getting an easy hook. It happens even at rank 1 because either the killer was super sneaky or the survivor was to engrossed. You chose to only use what best fit your narrative.

Yes, thank you, you've already voiced your complaints in the thread.

  • Stealth is the skillful way to play and the one less likely to result in a ######### game for everyone.

  • Until the issue is fixed, you may want to stop unhooking or stop using Self Care. You know, to be on the safe side.

  • @Chi said:
Do you ever play survivor? You would know that being down a teammate at any point is a serious disadvantage for the survivors. 3 survivor games suck for survivors because the 4th survivor is really needed to keep the game going somewhere. :|

Yes, I do (though not lately, I admit). If Survivors play smart and adapt (stealth instead of looping, for example), 3v1 is still very much winnable.

Now, do you ever play Killer? Because all you care about is making sure other Survivors aren't screwed over by your deranking, but you have no problem going to a lower rank to abuse newbie Killers.

Just let the Killer kill you. Problem solved.

I am not going to screw over my teammates like that.

Wait until a generator is repaired, then let the Killer kill you. Problem solved.

That would still be screwing them over. :|

How so? The game is made so N Survivors have to repair N+1 generators before the exits are powered. Hell, fix the generator yourself if you're so worried about screwing over your teammates (never mind the fact that you're gonna screw over low-rank Killers by deranking, but clearly you only care about one side of the equation).
