of course, person with a nurse in the avatar.

Your point being? I have a friend whose avatar is a wolf, do you think he's really a wolf?

its not broken but every coolio killer is using it, same as bbq ( the most broken, it doesnt giv you an opportunity), like, come on dude.

BBQ can be countered by hiding behind generators, will be counterable soon by hiding in lockers, and you can also counter it by being within the radius where it doesn't work.
Stuff doesn't have to be broken to be used a lot. Go break the totem, see if Ruin helps in any way afterward.

if something is used a lot with huge difference with other perks it means that its effective, hugely more effective.

Which isn't the same thing as being broken. Sometimes, the other tools are just worthless garbage. Look at Monstrous Shrine, for example. Look at Unrelenting before it was buffed.

whats being broken then? its always comparative. you call broken to almost a hack i bet

Broken means it's overwhelmingly powerful and nearly impossible to beat. Hex perks don't fall under that category because they can literally be destroyed.

  • @ScottJund said:
You're also ignoring the opportunity cost of people actually looking for the totem, which is massive. Occasionally you'll get bad luck with people spawning right on it.

I've had good luck once. To be fair, I don't use Hex perks that much, with the exception of NOED on one Killer.
The opportunity cost is essentially irrelevant at high ranks.

thats if you hit people. ruin breaks the whole early game, when more gens are done, if killer hangs someone it starts the part of the match that leads to his victory, with bbq as a way to connect hangs (then they auto glory in the fact that they dont camp, why you gonna camp with bbq)

Ruin has counters and can be permanently destroyed.

    @ScottJund said:
Yeah just instantly teleport to the totem and break it, no time lost at all.

It doesn't remove 12 seconds with 3, its closer to 16 with the dead generator time in between failed checks. Sloppy Butcher adds 4 seconds to a normal heal, shortened even further by medkits and perks. If your entire team is only self caring every time they get hit with mangled, your team is stupid.

Most Hex perks are gone within the first minute, if that. During that time, generators are still being repaired.

I did neglect to take into account the dead generator time, my apologies.
I don't know what kind of teams you get, but the Survivors I get do use Self Care at any opportunity, even with Sloppy Butcher.

  • @ScottJund said:
Nobody hits great skill checks every single time. Not a single person. And if everyone fails even only two or three skill checks the entire game, thats still more game delay than every other game delay perk there is.

    Break the totem, problem solved.
PS: Three skill checks would give you an additional 12 seconds of generator repair time, assuming they occur sequentially and not simultaneously on different generators. By comparison, Sloppy Butcher gives you 8 seconds on a single heal with Self Care.

  • @The_Crusader said:
You could take Billy and give him NOED, Ruin and an ebony mori. That's really making him strong.

But then wheres the fun in that? To me thats the "I can't stand losing" build.

Its like when you get 4 man SWF with BNP, instaheals, DS and all their meta perks.

Wheres the fun when the game is that easy?

But then maybe its just me. Im one of those rare people who prefers to play without NOED and to win the game normally.

It capitalizes on his strengths, but you also don't compensate for his weaknesses. That's where the balance comes from. You're still weak to the same things as before if you only push on your strengths.

  • @fedup said:

This is a really dumb argument because it assumes all perks have equal value, which they do not.

This is a really dumb counter-argument because it assumes a crutch is only a crutch if it's very powerful, which it is not.

  • @The_Crusader said:
But I thought you were all about balance?

How does that relate to what I said?

  • @The_Crusader said:
If you NEED Ruin then it is by definition a crutch. You don't need Ruin, there are plenty of streamers out there who can consistently win with any killer without ruin. However obviously not everyone is going to be at this level. That said, if you absolutely need Ruin on top tier killers like Billy or Nurse then chances are you're doing something wrong. Yoi shouldn't need it for them.

There are two types of non-meme builds. One type compensates for a character's weaknesses. The second type pushes their strengths to the absolute limit.
It's not about what you need to use, it's about what you want to use. Do you want to cover your character's weaknesses, or do you want to amplify their strengths?

  • @artist said:
yeah buddy? there was nothing to argue about because you gave no reasoning as to why you think that about what I said. just a vague "what you're saying is meaningless" you had nothing to contribute and I wonder why that is.

@Dragonredking summarized it pretty well. A crutch helps you do something you can't normally do. Every perk unlocks abilities that you wouldn't otherwise have access to. By definition, every perk is a crutch. This also applies to items, add-ons, offerings, and SWF.

The topic is whether Ruin is a crutch or not. You said it is on certain characters, I responded that the same could be said of any perk on any character. Then you tried a little ad hominem, but it backfired because I don't do any of the things you said I did. Now you're trying to stray away from your initial statement because I backed you into a wall.

I know that everyone is different and stuff, but personally there's no way i can be bothered by people like that.
If someone tells me to get cancer:
Do i know that person? No
Do i care about that person's opinion? No
Will i get cancer just because that person wished it? Certainly not.
Summary: my life hasn't changed a bit and i'm still fine, probably even better because salty people amuse me.
Yeah, i will report that behaviour because not everyone takes that stuff in the same way and because no one should talk like that, but would be nice as well to not get affected by this kind of people.

It's not about being bothered or not. That guy was claiming that "toxicity" just isn't a thing, which is blatantly not true. Toxic behavior exists, and pretending it doesn't won't help anyone. Like you, I simply report and move on, which is the best attitude, IMO.

  • @George_Soros said:
There is no toxicity in DBD, only overly sensitive players.

    "#########."

Yup, that's not toxicity; people are just being overly sensitive.

  • @Avariku said:
where exactly did I defend survivor behavior?
I actually thought I was pretty clear that there's toxic players on both sides of the field.

and one major reason that killers get more negative comments than survivors do is because there are four survivors and only one killer. This sets up a ratio that obviously contributes to that cumulative comment amount AND its a lot easier to call a killer out for bad behavior than survivor since there's four of them, it's easier to forget which name was the one that looped or which of the four (if not all four) that genrushed.

and please don't start the camping/genrush argument, you and I won't see eye to eye on it and will only result in derailing the conversation.

regardless of all of that, throwing around blame is the least likely way to have a constructive conversation about toxicity as a whole.

The toxicity is not proportionate to the number of Survivors.

This is not about blame; the facts are the facts. Ignoring the facts won't make the problem go away.

  • @PiiFree said:

    @Avariku said:
seems to me it's not really one side or the other, but rather it's predominately a set of toxic players who play both sides just as scummy. there are exceptions, of course, but that makes the most sense to me.

Most Survivor consider camping and tunneling toxic. As a Survivor, I don't consider that topic, it's no different than looping or gen rushing. I've not yet to see a Killer that complained on my profile "-rep ######### looper / gen rusher", not once. I have more hours in Survivor than Killer yet my profile to date has ~500 comments, most of them are insults from survivors because I killed them.

You can try to defend the behaviour of the Survivors all you want, every experienced player (regardless if it's a Survivor or a Killer) will tell you that the real toxicity (insults, harassment) happens WAY more often on the Survivors side. Camping, tunneling, slugging - while they're a bit scummy and annoying to deal with, are NOT toxic unless you consider looping and gen rushing toxic aswell.

^This. Don't fall under the spell of the "both sides do it" fallacy. Yes, one side really can be worse than the other, and one side often is worse than the other. Survivors are overwhelmingly and disproportionately more toxic than Killers, and have been since the game was first released. This is not about blame, it's about facing the facts.

  • @DarkWo1f997 said:
I think the killershould get a bloodpoints multiplier every time he hooks a different survivor, with the multiplier disappearing if the killer stays within 10 meters of the hook for 10 seconds, as well as if they hook the same survivor twice.

Like a built in, aura free BBQ and chili meant to simply incentivize the killer to loosen up a little and focus on the bloodpoints instead of those trashy tryhards.

It's not bad to play to win. If you just want to farm BP without any real challenge, what's the point of playing?

  • @brokedownpalace said:
Didn't take long for the victimized killer parade to arrive.

  • @The_Crusader said:
Yes sometimes it is the survivors fault too. Those who just want to farm their WGLF stacks, those who rush because they don't wany anyone else getting the points, and those who are just out to troll.

But that leaves us again in the situation where its best to just avoid solo altogether and only play SWF.

No, not just "sometimes". Again, read the history of camping.

Playing SWF just avoids dealing with the issue. It's like the invulnerability after being unhooked. Doesn't do anything to fix the cause of the problem (hook vultures, as I like to call them), and instead punishes an unrelated third party (the Killer).

edit: forgot the "L" in clockwise :s

And that's the little thing that can save you so much time if you're lucky enough, actually.
Good survivours look around and think where should they go next so they usually pick a trajectory that is facing the place the want to go next.
Example: you have a pallet. In front of it is a jungle gym, and behind it is a pile of trash without pallets or windows. Obviously survivour wants to go to the jungle gym after they throw the pallet. And they want to go straight to it, without having to do another loop around the wall and risking getting a hit. And they want to end up in front of the pallet. But you want them to end up behind the pallet.
On this scheme you can see where should you go and where would survivour go.

Same goes for every other loop in the game.

Why did the survivor run into your arms on the last pic? He could have easily continued to loop on the left side until you break the pallet. When you break the pallet, he simply switches to the pallet bellow

I'm sorry, because it's not very clear, but the last pic swows the moment when survivour actually drops the pallet and tries to get to the next area, but you are alreaady on that side.

The picture was quite clear. The question remains: why did the Survivor go over to your side when they could just as easily keep looping or even keep running to the side you're not on?

    Hm...
Maybe it was like this: pallet is dropped, survivour is waiting for you to act, you break it and they know that there's nowhere to run behind so they try to move forvard while you're breaking the pallet, but you're done by the time they finally get to another side.

Though, I agree that it's a pretty dumb move. Maybe they had DH, but forgot it didn't reacharge yet? XD

So in short, they screwed up, which means this isn't a real counter; it's just a way to take advantage of a mistake.

    Heres my thoughts...

    • It ruins the game
    • It hurts solo more than SWF

Compromise with killers to have changes made to the game that nerf camping, and in a compromise we nerf SWF.

I've often seen this idea flaoted around that the gane goes...

SWF > Killer >> Solo survivors.

I think there's a fair amount of truth to that.

Camping doesn't need nerfs. If you want Killers to stop camping, you've got two choices:

    • Stop rewarding camping (which Survivors don't want to do because they feel entitled to save even if the Killer is right there).
    • Reward Killers for leaving the hook as a base mechanic (which they also don't want to do, because they think Killers are dogs or circus animals that should be trained by beating them until they do what you want).

To emphasize: punishment does not work, and Survivors have already proved as much.
Take, for example, the penalty for hook rushing. Survivors get caught, resulting in a snowball for the Killer. Yet they keep doing it, over and over, despite the obvious punishment. If you think punishment works, then explain why Survivors throw themselves at Killers despite the punishment they receive.

  • @KingB said:
@DocOctober it's not directly punishing the killer. If a killer hard camps I doubt they planned on getting more than 1 kill. I'm trying to provide a way to speed up the process for both sides. Camping isn't fun for either side. This is just an idea. There is a middle ground and I play both sides I'm just trying to find it.

Camping already takes more time than you need to repair every generator on the map and leave. It takes something like 120 seconds for the Survivor to die, and only 80 seconds (max) to complete a generator. Assuming 50% progression on 3 generators and 25% on a fourth by the time one of them is hooked, this means that Survivors have enough time to repair every generator, open the door, and leave.

Fair enough but other day it was a different tune. I thought you had more your stances on it pretty clear.

    My stance is the following:

    • Camping is a legitimate tactic.
    • Camping is boring for both the camper and the camped.
    • Game mechanics should not punish Killers for camping.

Now here are a few facts:

    • Camping is a Survivor-created problem with a Survivor-side solution.
    • Camping will never be completely eliminated.
    • Camping can be the best thing to do sometimes.
    • Survivors make camping pay off more often than not.
    • Camping puts all the power in the Survivors' hands, potentially making it one of the worst strategies for a Killer, second only to standing still the entire trial.
    • Camping has counters.

Skill checks are client-side. Lag doesn't factor into it.

Oh, I hear people claiming the needle jumps. Like i said, Im a killer main mostly so...new info to me. I still think HatCreature's idea solves other problems though. Ive had too many games where the last guy is already sitting on the hatch when the 3rd guy dies/DCes and I have litterally NO chance at downing him. At the same time, Ive had too many games as survivors where people give up on actually doing the objective if its down to 2. I think Hat's idea could help with both.

If the needle does jump, that's usually an FPS issue.

  • @The_Crusader said:
@Orion In terms of escaping the killer yes.

As I said I bring Bond anyway. It's great for me but other survivors don't bring these therefore there's still no co-ordination. Again Kindred doesn't always work because there's no communication.

You have the pre-game chat that you can use to coordinate perks, offerings, etc.. There are already tools for coordination, but Survivors refuse to use them.

As for BT, here's what you think is happening:
"I totally countered that camper because I unhooked the other guy!"
Here's what's actually happening, from the Killer's perspective:
"Wow, BT is annoying, but at least it guarantees that half the Survivors weren't working on generators. I'm gonna camp again next trial."

Those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it. I've already told you the history of camping. It's up to you to listen or ignore it.

Stream sniping is and should remain bannable. However, if you're going to put your stream link in your username, you should also take precautions to avoid stream sniping. The whole point of turning yourself into a billboard is that people go watch your stream; you can't have it both ways.

The whole point of this is the survivors or killers drop in AFTER the game so you can chat, give each other a GG, possibly make an SWF group after.

Not so a killer can trivialise the whole point of the game by knowing where you're heading or where you're hiding.

Of course survivors do this too if one of them dies in a SWF they can ghost a streamer killer.

    Either way it's lame.

Like I said, you can't have it both ways. Using a URL as your display name is an implicit invitation to everyone to click on/follow the link. That's why you take precautions such as stream delays.
Personally, when I'm streaming, I post the link after the trial is over, instead of turning my name into an ad. That prevents stream sniping.

Yes it's an invitation to everyone.

But let's use common sense here it's not an invitation to trivialise the whole game and make it an easy game for one person and ruin the experience of another.

It's an invitation once the game is done to drop a "Hey good game" or "I enjoyed playing with you wanna make a group"

And if we lived in a perfect world with perfect people, that would matter.
The instant you use a stream URL as your display name, you're turning yourself into a target for stream sniping. Everyone who's done it knows it. Hell, I've never done it and even I know it. Not taking precautions at that point is just irresponsible.

To be honest im not of a rank where i actually care much about stream sniping used against me but i imagine it's a problem higher up and i may get there someday and yes although stream delays are a thing not everyone's viewers are happy with that.

Should that person lose viewers or have to live with stream snipers simply because some boosted survivor/killer can't learn to play the game properly?

You say it's bannable? but i don't think i have seen anyone banned in this game for anything outside of blatantly running hacks.

They should literally remove every report button except for "Exploits" at this point.

That person has a choice: change their name so it's no longer a URL, add a delay, or deal with the occasional stream snipers. The instant there's a solution to your problem, but you refuse to use it, you are at least partially to blame as well.
You say their viewers are not happy? Are their viewers happy with the stream snipers? Does that person even want viewers who would rather they have a bad gaming experience than deal with something as insignificant as a delay?
I always tell what few complainers I get one simple thing: if you don't like it, you can leave. I'm there to play games that I like the way that I like. Sure, I don't get a lot of viewers (like I said, I don't turn my name into a URL, for one, and I have limited time and resources to stream), but I have a few regulars, and they actually enjoy my streams, even when I have to block certain parts of the screen or add a little delay. I have fun, they have fun.

If it can be proven, the devs will ban stream snipers. A friend of mine corrected me, apparently stream sniping is no longer bannable because it's borderline impossible to prove. I've seen people banned for things besides hacks.

Want us to stop bringing BT? Stop camping.

BT activates even if the Killer isn't camping. I also see you ignored my history lesson.

It's never works as simple as you make it sound because there's little co-ordination. Not with randoms anyway

    With SWF however? It's easy.

So again we end up where it's just better off to play SWF.

So take perks that help with coordination. Kindred, Bond, Empathy.

But they have no room for those "inferior" perks in their full meta builds (SC,SB, DS, BT).
And Kindred is a "garbage perk", because 2 min aura read on the killer is crap and 4 seconds aura read on survivor is OP, you know? ;)

Yeah, I get it. Solo Survivors want the same coordination as borderline wallhack SWF, but they don't want to have to sacrifice any perk slots for it.

Camping and tunnelling are supported play styles by the devs so good luck with that.

    Like every game I guess...

Yes indeed about the servers... is it because of budgets? too lazy to invest time ? I don't know..

Budget and time. It requires a complete restructuring of the game's code (since it's made for P2P). It'd likely introduce massive amounts of bugs as well.
