Totally out of context but what the hell is wrong with this forums "quote system"? How can anyone keep track of that?!

Back to topic and as a matter of fact: Only bad / unskilled survivors are affected by ruin.

Some people don't put @ at the start of the quote (where it says "@Soandso said:"), so when someone quotes that person, it breaks everything else.

You'd think that most Doctors don't run Distressing, UP etc and don't pay attention to people screaming, or the big illusion saying oh they're over here.

    I assume UP=Unnerving Presence?

Sure, as long as P2P doesn't affect players outside of KYF. I can live with that.

Well, yeah, that's the point. It will even improve the game's longevity, since P2P doesn't require maintenance.

  • Probably automatic based on ping.

For me, this is in all respects better than P2P (if this is done well, I hope that BHVR will succeed in this). Well, I can only sympathize with the Australians, if this happens, it is possible that it is better not to play the game at all than to “enjoy the charms” of the P2P system.

I would much rather working servers then to not play at all.

Here's hoping the devs remember us Aussies.

I said I offered the challenge of a standoff with killers who camped.

And thats because in those 2 specific circumstances, I had time to find the hatch because they were too busy camping a hook on the other end of the map.

With killers who go out hunting it's a different story.

Same difference. Whoever finds the hatch first will depend on where it spawned and where each player is when it opens. Neither side is guaranteed to find it before the other.

Yes, because it is much better to rely on a "host - killer", that this time you will be lucky and he will not lag switch and everything will be fine with his Internet. And also jump 10 times from the lobby to the lobby to find a normal ping. What desire and mood to win for the survivor can be discussed under such circumstances?
I play several games with dedicated servers, lags almost never happen, it all depends on how the developers do their job + I have adequate matchmaking and stable good ping. Of course, BHVR can do its job badly and things will get worse, but I hope for the best.

Dedicated servers don't guarantee good ping. They're servers; not magic.

Wow, this is a surprise. Who would have thought...?
I'm talking about my own experience, because I live in an appropriate place. Even if I lived somewhere far from the central parts of the world and had a ping of 150-200, it is still better than P2P in my opinion.

You can cut the snark. The majority of people pushing for dedicated servers act like they're some magic pill that's gonna fix everything.
For people living in, say, Australia, it's not gonna be 150-200 if they don't get servers. It's gonna be anywhere from a third to half a second.

  • @The_Crusader said:
If neither know the killer has a much, much higher chance of finding it first for the reasons listed above - higher movement speed and no need to stealth.

No, because it depends on each player's location relative to the hatch, which is largely random.
Weren't you the guy saying that he forced Killers into hatch stand-offs when you found it before they did? How come you're now saying that the Killer always finds the hatch first?

But more often than not the killer gets there first.

Especially if the hatch doesn't spawn until there's only 1 survivor left.

I wonder what the people who blame the Killer for their own crappy connection will say now...

"Killers are DDoSing the servers! Thats why I died!"

    Sounds about right.

I'm sure that'll be both sides doing it because both sides have people that can't admit their potato skills are just that potato skills.

Only one side has had to deal with being the host, just saying.

  • @The_Crusader said:
But then it'd an automatic win for killers.

Killers move around at 115% movement speed and can search freely for the hatch.

Survivors move at 100% speed if runninf, but mostly have to walk/crouch around trying to find the hatch while also hiding from the killer.

The killer could easily find the hatch first and then it's over for the survivor. Or the survivor would just have to wait far away while the killer camps the hatch which just leads to a long range standoff.

If you blocked the hatch upon a hit there would be no point in having a hatch.

Alternatively, the Survivor knows where the hatch is (because maps exist) and gets there before the Killer.

  • @The_Crusader said:
Yeah well at the moment you get reset to green ranks everytime. It's unplayable because new players go down every 10 seconds. Not even exagerrating.

So at the moment the game feels like a chore - where you NEED to put the hours in to rank up just to have a more enjoyable experience. But you gotta suffer a lot of crappy games to do that.

If they had no rank then all it would take would be one very bad survivor to cost your team the game.

If the problem is that ranking up is too easy (and thus rank doesn't reflect skill), essentially getting rid of rank won't solve anything. Rank resets still need to happen because of newbies.

  • @The_Crusader said:
Now just remove rank reset so solo is playable.

Then everyone will just slowly rank up, making rank useless and breaking the matchmaker for newcomers. Might as well get rid of rank altogether.

And when it comes to players in Australia and New Zealand...well, we're all screwed as the servers will be US and EU based and our Ping will skyrocket like 90% of the games out there.

I am from Brazil and I do have the same concern. Probably this is going to kill the game for good - if dedicated servers over here are not provided. But the problem will also be demand for it, if they see that there is not enough players to keep it active, well, bummer, no way to play at all. I hope for those cases, Killer hosted games might still be a possibility.

Most of the players are from EU, NA, and Asia. I do hope the devs put servers on all continents, but don't pretend that not having servers in SA and AU is going to kill the game.

  • @Tsulan said:
I don't like to play devil's advocate. But why does everyone think that dedicated servers will solve all the problems this game has? It might improve on some things but probably brings more problems on other things.
    Region lock might come back.
Long queues because the closest servers are already full.
Killers might still lag, but affect survivors in a different way.

Fortnite players wanted dedicated servers, and regretted it after they got it.
Why do you think this will be any better?

Oh, it definitely won't solve all the problems (or even most of the problems), but some people just don't seem to understand that dedicated servers have downsides as well.

I'm not so sure about this whole "new BT = Tunnel/Camp" mindset. Deep Wound seems to be the ultimate anti-tunnel status effect. If someone gets unhooked with the BT buff, you need to hit them twice, just like anyone else. Before that buff, you could just chase them while they bleed out.

Instead of finding a way to deal with it, I'd just try to avoid it by not even allowing them to trigger it. Many Killers can proximitiy camp outside of BT radius and then quickly head back to the hook to land a hit: Spirit, Nurse, Billy, Hag and Huntress for example. With Freddy, Wraith and Pig you can completly ignore BT because you won't have a terror radius.

Doctor, Leatherface, Myers and Clown are probably the most affected by the new BT, which is kinda sad. Those Killers didn't really deserve indirect nerfs but ehh... I doubt that the devs thought this through.

The most simple tactic to keep BT from getting trigger is even simpler: hard camping.
I the victim does not get unhooked = no invu frames, no free exhaustion relief, no risk of BT.

    Unfortunate, but true.

Because you respond to everyone and tell them they're wrong for the reasons you mentioned. But your reasons are not true, they're your opinion. Selfcare and Nurses calling are strong, but balanced perks. Believe in the truth of the mob. Arguments differ, especially extremes like your killerbiased ones. The truth is often the middle ground. Lots of people complain about DS, Noed, Ruin, so its probably true that they're crutches.

Note how I said "on release", and explained why. And yeah, I'm so "killerbiased" that I was the first person to suggest a nerf to A Nurse's Calling, which resulted in what you now call the balanced version.

Then you could make the same argument that "Ruin stops survivors from taking advantage of gen rushing." I don't even think Ruin is overpowered, I'm just showing your argument isn't very strong.

Gen rushing is a symptom of a bigger problem (lack of objectives). Ruin is just a band-aid solution. Neither has anything to do with what I said.

Gen rushing is the killer's lack of doing anything to threaten survivors who are completing their objective. The only issue is the first hook. As soon as there is a single hook, there are now other objectives for the survivors. Ruin helps with that first part.

Go look up the depip squad's experiment. Gen rushing has little to do with what the Killer does.

btw i have been pointed out thet there are millions of counters, not the counters explicit. hiding behind gens for bbq? that means prediction of the perk and time waste, and having a gen near. it means no sneaking to unhook or being around or hiding to get hatch

If you get rekt by BBQ, you did something wrong. Counters are supposed to take up resources; don't expect free hand-outs every time.
    Some counters:

    • Hide behind a generator.
    • Hide inside the radius where it doesn't work.
    • Juke the Killer by going in one direction and then turning around after the aura reading has passed.
    • Hide in a locker (coming soon).
    • Use Distortion (coming soon).

I'm curious, do you think anything in the game is overpowered on either side?

On the Killer side there used to be some overpowered perks for which I supported nerfs, such as A Nurse's Calling. I can't speak of add-ons because I rarely use them.
On the Survivor side, I'd say Self-Care and Decisive Strike.
Infinite, self-sustaining heals are not good for the game's balance when getting hit has no long-term consequences. You can get hit as many times as you want, but it won't make any difference in the long run.
Decisive Strike is too easy to use and essentially punishes the Killer for catching a Survivor. It's also a force multiplier (almost useless on bad Survivors, but overwhelmingly powerful on good ones).

Just seems kind of hypocritical when you said:

    @Orion said:
Broken means it's overwhelmingly powerful and nearly impossible to beat. Hex perks don't fall under that category because they can literally be destroyed.

Yet you call a perk like A Nurse's Calling overpowered which means you think its "nearly impossible" to just...not heal in a terror radius. You think Self-Care is overpowered, ignoring the literal half-a-generator it takes to self-care yourself. You think Decisive Strike is overpowered, ignoring how much Enduring weakens it, or how they can just be slugged, or how they can be dribbled, etc.

A Nurse's Calling, back when it was released, had a trigger radius that was identical to the terror radius. That meant that Killers could leave an area, wait for the Survivor to start healing, come back, and get an aura reading, even though the Survivor did everything right by waiting until they were out of the TR to start healing.
I suggested a nerf to this perk (as far as I know, I was the first person to suggest it) because it seemed unfair that a Survivor could do everything right and still get shafted by a perk they'd just countered.

I think Self-Care and Decisive Strike are overpowered for the reasons I laid out. Regardless of the time or soft counters, they are fundamentally broken or otherwise take advantage of what I believe to be broken aspects of the game.

well if they grow brighter the hex would become less stealthy, and we dont want that happening to hex:devour hope or ruin, the hex perks are brightish but if they become brighter every minute (through some experimenting some matches last 16 minutes) and I know he/she stated only minutes 1,2, and 3 and they are an increase of 10%, after the 15 or 14 minutes, or after most of the time when all or just 1 gen are done or remaining, good map pressure will help with the 1 gen remaining part, but the effects of this will not just wound, but ruin (no pun intended) the use of hex perks, and most of the time they are destroyed within a few seconds of the match starting, and we already know that the hill hex location only helped hide it from 2 sides

Dude, read the OP again. They start out looking like dull totems and progressively get brighter until they reach the current brightness.
