This game would be so much more fun if the devs switched their focus from creating a low-skill party game with focus on new players to a balanced competitive game.
-
This problem existed already with the last tome. Do you remember the "sacrifice all survivors in the basement" challenge? Survivors could easily deny the killer the challenge by dc'ing. Happened all the time, so many people were complaining.
I have no idea why the devs ignore this problem.
-
What I always say in this situation: Video games are supposed to be fun. If it's not fun for you anymore, play something else that brings you fun instead.

Unless that's why nobody plays him. They simply don't like his cosmetics.
Hmm...you are not wrong. I think it's all about how the survivor looks when people choose which character they play. So yeah, if Adam got some amazing cosmetics, people would play him. I would probably do so. But I don't like his existing skins at all, so he's staying at home.
-
@thrawn3054 said:
Lol I never see anybody play Adam. Yet he's in everybody's list. Wth.
I was thinking the same thing. If the devs release new Adam cosmetics, who is going to use them?
-
Teammates. Even if I play SWF, we usually know to put the blame on ourselves.
-
With the new hidden skillrating system coming soon, I don't think the devs will put work into the existing ranking system. They said themselves that rank doesn't tell us how good you are, just how much you play. So we shouldn't care about ranks & pips.
-
Of course there is a lack of high rank killers. If you would like to have more high rank killers, you would have to make changes to the game so that more people would like to play killer, and more often.
-
Agreed. My average gaming experience suffered for several reasons.
Bad ranking & matchmaking system is throwing people together who should not play together.
Matches are often over so fast that not a lot happened. Killer gets 2 hooks and the exit gates are open. Too much gen simulator. Or the killer camps & tunnels to make up for the gen speed.
Or somebody dc's.
Or people are doing their challenges and don't play the game how it is supposed to be played.

I was once getting chased by the doctor in madness 3. All gens done, only me and another teammate were left. Guess who wasn't opening the gates to help me out.
We all died thanks to this idiot.
Note: I was running the killer for ~3 minutes at the end. No clue how much more time he needed to do his job.
I also have a nice story to share: After the gens were done, I was getting chased by a hag. She already hit me once, so everybody knew she didn't have NOED. I was running to the exit gate where everybody was (I had Bond). The exit gate was at 99%, the other 3 guys were healthy, everybody hiding pretty close to the gate. As I was running to the gate, nobody took a hit for me, they didn't even open the gate, they just kept hiding. It was ridiculous.
-
I mean the devs themselves acknowledged that rank shows how much you play and not how well. The new skill ratings will be hidden.
So yeah, the game will not give you feedback how you well you play compared to others. DbD had the potential to be a seriously competitive game, but the devs want it to be a casual party game. A casual party game with serious ranking + matchmaking system? Not going to happen.
-
A lot of people don't acknowledge that a match is not over just because 5 gens have been repaired. Hooks, kills, slugging and surprises with end-game perks after the gens are done: This is all very much part of the game.
A killer isn't bad when they go for a endgame strategy. It's a nice change from the meta, and changes from the meta should be encouraged.

what is even more incredible is the silence of the devs regarding this mess.
Game got clearly broken after last patch and, besides some entitled survs and some new players, everyone saw his fun level decrease drastically.
If I was a dev I'd be worried to see players base decrease drastically. But they keep on not addressing the problem and, most of all, no one said they will fix anything regarding this.
Personally I started to play it much less than before, and as soon as a good alternative comes out (RE:resistance, maybe?) I will quit this game.
The playercount isn't dropping, so I assume the devs don't see the need for changes.
-
Despite nerfs and dedicated servers, Nurse is still the most powerful.
Against good survivors, Legion is the weakest. Against bad survivors, Clown is the weakest.
-
I've always been a survivor main. I agree that the queue times are annoying and that there are more boring games with a low amount of hooks, so I'm playing less survivor than I used to. But I don't play killer instead, I just play other games.
-
The focus lies on the fun of new survivor players because these players bring potentially the most money. BHVR is a company that wants to earn money, it's a business decision.
If the focus is not on balance but on inexperienced players of one side, then of course the game will get harder for one group and super easy for another group. Is playing survivor for a really good 4-men-SWF even still fun?

I'm a survivor main, always have been. I rarely play killer nowadays because it has gotten too stressful.
-
Don't worry, there are a lot of players who feel like you. Don't force yourself to find fun in playing killer.
Playing killer doesn't make you feel good, so stick to playing survivor or play another game. Playing a video game should bring you enjoyment.
-
If you just want to handicap yourself: OoO + No Mither
-
WGLF + MoM + Breakout
Try to stop a killer from hooking the survivor whom he is carrying while also getting bonus bloodpoints. Styptic Agent is a great addition. Bond is useful to keep track of the survivor you want to help and find other survivors who will heal you back to health.
-
C tier.
As a comparison: Nurse is S, Billy is A, Freddy is B.
-
Nurse is the strongest, but she takes A LOT of practice.
Spirit is the 2nd best. She also takes some practice & skill, but it's not comparable to Nurse. You should be able to get decent results with her relatively quick.
Playing weaker killers can often be pretty frustrating. So my suggestion is: Get Spirit.
-
I'd prefer it if the devs would increase the amount of perks you can unlock per bloodweb. Let players unlock 2 perks per bloodweb starting at level 10, for example.
-
Why punishing? Why not reward the killer with more points if they go for a fresh hook?
-
Their recent actions indicate that the goal is to earn money with new players as fast as possible, and that it doesn't matter much if other players leave. That's not a plan to keep a game growing long-term.
This game being a casual party game is wasted potential. Like @ABannedCat said, if DbD was balanced for esports, this game would become so much bigger and BHVR could make an insane amount of money.
Seriously, I have no idea why the people in charge make the decisions they make.
-

I mostly play survivor
Has that always been the case? I got the impression you would play a decent amount of killer.

It already does that. It encourages overly altruistic behavior instead of doing the objectives and the use of a perk slot for something that has no survival-increasing effect, all of which benefit the killer.
Really? From a killer's perspective, it wouldn't bother me if the survivors decided to let their teammate die on the first hook. Let's be real: By unhooking your teammates and not letting them die, you are usually increasing the survival chances of the team.
-
BBQ was introduced as an incentive for the killer to leave the hook and not camp. An incentive to prioritize hooking a new survivor over tunneling. It gives the killer bonus bp for making the game more enjoyable for survivors.
Following the same logic, if we want to give WGLF an additional effect, it should be something that encourages survivors to play in a more enjoyable way for killers. Any ideas?
-
So you fear the "bad feedback" that you could get after a match? After you have played killer for a while, you will realize that there a lot of people who will always complain and insult you, no matter how you play. You can play super generous, no tunnel, no camp, perkless, add-on-less, no mori, and there will still be a lot of people who will insult you.
So as a consequence, don't care about what others tell you. If bloodpoints are important to you, play for bloodpoints. If kills are important for you, play for kills. If you want to try meme builds, try them. Play how you want to play.
Keep in mind that you as a killer are not the fun provider for survivors.
-
Agreed, definitely Bond. I also like it for a 4-men-SWF.
-
She looks like a Britney from an alternate universe who made even worse life decisions.
It's so horrendous that I actually intend to unlock the outfit, and then I can laugh the entire time while playing her.

Sounds to me like the investors want the game to grow and be more profitable by attracting, and keeping, new players.
What a silly concept....longevity and growth. Good thing those other horror games are so good.......wait...nevermind.
You don't achieve longevity and growth by only focussing on new survivors. The pool of new potential players is limited. For growth, the already existing players have to keep playing the game, too.

BHVR owns the game no bosses except BHVR.
boss = head of department (or similar, I don't know BHVR's structures)
devs = employees working on game design & balance
-
I was never "mad" about the Ruin nerf. I think it's a bad decision and unhealthy for the game. And just because a couple of days have passed, my opinion didn't change.
-
And a huge amount of questions about Lore.
Is Lore that important for other players? Personally, I don't care at all. I would like to see the devs focus on everything else (balance, bugs, matchmaking...), but not on Lore.
-
Are you really saying "stop complaining, just play the game"?
Complaints aren't a bad thing. Constructive criticism helps making the game better. What you don't want are unhappy customers who leave silently and you as a company have no idea why.
What needs to stop are insults.
-
The rank issue is definitely part of the problem and I'm sure a lack of killers is another part of the problem.
@Gibberish said:
I would like to see actual player count numbers for the individual sides.
I am playing at high ranks as Survivor and queues are taking 10+ minutes for a single game.
I'd like to see the numbers, too; but that's not going to happen.
-
I doubt that this "focus on new survivor players" is an idea from the devs. Sounds more like an instruction given to them by the bosses.
-
If everything about the ranks is hidden, where would be the motivation for most players to play well in a "normal" match? I believe people would care less about playing the game how it was supposed to be played and instead go for trolling & meme'ing.

I don't think you can play it now, can you?
The servers are still up. Few people are still playing it.
-
This is the current standard.
Until the new matchmaking & rating system goes live, it will take a couple of weeks/months.
-
The devs want to balance around 2 kills. But they probably also don't want the killer to tunnel, so let's say, the killer should win 9-10 chases on average.
-
With the killer being skilled & a bit of luck, and the survivors making some mistakes, sure the killer can still recover from that situation and get a 4k.
Even if 5 gens have been done and everybody is still alive, the killer can still get a 4k if the survivors make some dumb mistakes.
Seriously, if the survivors get a start like this and are not able to bring this win home, it's their fault. A killer should not have to rely on the survivors making mistakes in order to win. Otherwise, we could start the match with all gens being done, give the killer NOED and Bloodwarden and have intense 2-minute-matches.
-
A horror game will always lose more and more of its horror the longer you keep playing it. It's not necessary that survivors are afraid of killers.
We do have a problem though when we are at a point that killers are not considered opponents that have to be taken seriously, but fun providers that can be bullied.
-
The devs are putting their focus on new survivor players. Not even survivor players in general, but the new ones, because those people haven't bought all the existing DLCs and cosmetics yet.
It's a bad strategy. The pool of new players is limited. You cannot grow a game or even keep it alive long-term if you only focus on gaining new players and not on keeping the current ones.
If they continue like this, DbD will not last those 4-5 years as they planned.
-
No. DbD had great potential but the devs decided to go down the path of a party game. What a waste.
Now, the focus is not only on the party game aspect, the focus is also on new survivors. Not killers in general, and not survivors who have been playing for a while. If it continues like this, I don't see this game still being a financial success in 4-5 years.
-
It's the new normal. Everybody is getting matched with and against everybody.
-
My guess is that most people on the forums are from NA and the EU. Most people probably also don't have experience with queue times during the nights.
-
Self Care isn't a problem for killers, and I don't really see anybody complaining about it nowadays.
-
Of course you can still win sometimes. Red ranks are full with survivors who belong on rank 16. These matches aren't the problematic ones.
