  • @JoannaVO It would also be totally fine if they would hire a mathematician to write the algorithm. It's not the typical job of a programmer.

  • Currently, the old matchmaking is active. You should not have any problems finding matches as solo surv in green ranks on PS4. If it takes longer than 2-3 minutes, something with the search got bugged. Stop the search and start another one.

That being said, yes, the old matchmaking doesn't work for everyone. It's back to longer wait times for SWF; and highrank killers don't get matches anymore since there aren't enough highrank survs (because of the new pipping system).

At least we don't have constant high ping lobbies anymore. I hope the devs can finish reworking the algorithm soon.

  • @MegChicken You kind of said it yourself. These very good Nurses and Huntresses are rare, but they do exist on console. I also know like 3 or 4 Nurses on PS4 you can't win against. ☺️

You're right. To survive. Not make a bunch of bp.

You can survive and win, but if you want to rank you play a specific way.

@Carpemortum "You can survive and win, but if you want to rank you play a specific way."

That's the problem. If somebody plays well, they should rank up. That's how a ranking system should be designed.

What we have now: I find myself in a situation where I maxed one category, for example gen repair/Lightbringer. Finishing the last gen doesn't give me any bp or Emblem points anymore. So the system encurages me to not finish the gen and maybe go look for the killer, so that I can farm points in that category. That is contrary to what the game is supposed to be like (= find a way to finish gens and get out).

  • @Nickenzie Sure.

As I said, it's just not good to introduce survivor buffs at the current state of the game.

  • @FreyatheKind This hasn't anything to do with dedicated servers. BHVR already has the information about the players' dc's. They could punish players who dc too often. It's already technically possible.

  • @Nickenzie It's not the point whether it is a slight buff or a big buff. The game is not balanced and it wouldn't be fair to give killers more disadvantages at the moment.

If you have creative ideas for DbD, why not change your focus and take a look at what could help killers? Just a suggestion, of course. ☺️

  • @FreyatheKind In most cases you'll recognize whether a dc was intentional or not. Survivor got downed or hooked? Very likely intentional. Survivor was working on a gen? Something was buggy.

From what other players are reporting, the amount of "buggy" dc's seems to have increased. But I think that intentional dc's are the bigger problem at the moment.

  • @Nickenzie Then I'd consider it a general survivor buff. I don't think that is something we need in the current situation of the game's balance.

  • It needs to be an exhaustion perk for balance reasons. Otherwise you could combine it with Sprint Burst or Lithe which would make it too strong.

  • @Nickenzie What means "regardless of how easy it can be countered"? Is it a mechanic that can be easily countered or is it a mechanic that can cause killers to lose survivors?

  • The goal of DbD is not to lose a killer in a chase or to not get found, the goal is to survive. How players achieve this goal should be up to them (as long as they work, and don't hide in a corner of the map).

The tunneling thing is one reason why I am not a fan of the Emblem system. What I'd prefer was to make pipping bloodpoint-related again. And for that, to remove the 8k bp cap per category. That way, somebody who gets tunneled the entire game could get like 20k or more bloodpoints just in Boldness + Survival and still pip because of the high amount of bp.

  • @Nickenzie So what is your suggestion? A mechanic that can be easily countered and isn't relevant or a mechanic that can cause killers to get stuck and lose the survivor?

That is the deciding factor for this discussion.

  • The current matchmaking isn't fine for everyone. Highrank killers and SWF have to wait too long, for example.

Of the different matchmaking versions that we had in the last weeks, the best one was probably the new one after the devs added the region lock. But it was not good enough so I totally understand why the devs keep working on the system.

  • @Hunter901 said:

Killers need a 30 minute penalty for dcing and lobby dodging

@Hunter901 And what's your opinion on survivors who dc?

  • @Nickenzie Currently, it's fine, therefore killers aren't complaining.

If you think your suggested change could be easily countered by the killer, why are you making such a suggestion in the first place? I mean, why introduce something that is not relevant for gameplay?

  • Killer's kick immediately decreasing the gen's progression by 5% would be fine. But that should be the only change. The regress speed itself is fine imho.

  • The old pipping system was too easy. I'd like to see something in between the old system and the current one.

  • Well, you wrote it yourself: "I know this sounds bad on paper and you killers already deal with enough problems"

If you know this, why do you want to introduce a general survivor buff? It's the killers who are in need of buffs.

As a game mechanic for itself it might be ok, but please keep in mind that for 1 surv buff you have to introduce 1 killer buff as well, otherwise this game would become even more unbalanced.

  • I mostly agree. DC's occur too often at the moment. But the problem is not that players have a menu option to leave a match.

I really hope that the devs do something again these excessive DC's soon, some kind of punishment for players who abuse the "leave match" function.

  • @TWiXT I totally get you and you don't come across as a bad person. dc's are a big, big problem at the moment. I'd say it's one of the two biggest problems next to the matchmaking.

I don't really ever swf but I know it's sure isn't balanced around most solo gameplay. The gap between solo and swf is far too great nowadays. Something needs to be done imo

@CornChip Very good solos are in a better position than killers. I play mostly solo. If I get a good team, the killer can't win (Nurse and maybe Billy being the exception). Solo only feels hard because you get at least one bad teammate very often.

The thing is, you can't balance a game for bad or mediocre players. Any game has to be balanced around top gameplay.

The other issue: I agree that solo should be buffed and brought closer to SWF level. But that does also mean in consequence that killers need to get big buffs.

  • @TWiXT said:

I've been doing research concerning the ban system in regards to DC's, and found the stream where they discussed it from 2 years ago ( https://youtu.be/_HMRs9HKrz0?t=2892 ). In that stream they mentioned there is a % of games you are disconnecting that gets monitored. They did not mention what % was punishable, but that it is paying attention to how often a person disconnects out of every 10 games. They also stated that they are able to tell if the disconnect was caused by a game crash, or internet loss vs. closing the game or leaving the match. Each individual player that disconnects may only be doing so 1 time per every 10 games, and I just happened to be unfortunate enough to get into those games, but I don't think that's the case due to how frequent and carefree the nature of the majority of disconnects are.

I Really did tally my games and took note of each match that had a disconnect out of 5 days of playing, because I wanted to know how bad it's become. In 60 matches tallied, 34 of those matches had 1 DC or more, which is where I got the 6 out of every 10 games average. If an average of 6 out of 10 games I play has people disconnecting, that's still 60% of the time, and if others are experiencing the same rate, then the threshold % before it gets punished is way too lenient.

@TWiXT Imagine players would be allowed to dc in 10% of their games on a regular basis without having to fear getting banned. In theory, that could lead to one person dc'ing in 50% of all matches. That even would be too high.

We need a change of mentality. dc'ing is not for ending a match a player doesn't like. dc'ing is for exceptional cases like somebody else is taking the game hostage or some bug appears that you are unable to play the match (for example getting stuck in an obstacle and being unable to move).

  • @CornChip said:

Imo: The game needs 2 queues, ranked and casual.. Ranked for solos only.. Balance the game around solo survivors 50% escape rate or close to.

At the moment the game is balanced around top swf gameplay.. Solos are being heavily punished for it.. Game is becoming too frustrating, stale and boring for alot of solo players.. Again all imo

@CornChip The game isn't at all balanced around top SWF gameplay. The only killer who can stand a chance against top SWF groups is Nurse. This isn't balance.

  • @Chaotic_Riddle Players who dc too often are getting banned in "ban waves". As long as the devs don't do another wave, the people who are frequently dc'ing are still playing. AFAIK is has been some time since the last wave.

The devs know the dc percentages of the players. It's their decision when to do the next wave.

  • @BoxingRouge said:

I think it’s totally different from PS4 to PC... It seems that PC players get lobby simulator for killers whereas PS4 players getting instant lobbies for survivors and killers. (Old matchmaking)

@BoxingRouge It really depends on the rank. If you are in the red ranks, you have to wait long for a lobby with the old matchmaking. High rank killers have a big problem getting matches now. (That's also because almost no survivors are in the red ranks since the new pipping system.)

  • @brokedownpalace said:

Bond is great. You can see survivors being chased by the killer and go in for the distraction if you want. Plus you'll see who can heal you nearby.

Lithe is powerful with Quick and Quiet, too (instead of Dead Hard). You could be 30m away before the killer even realizes you vaulted a pallet or window.

I agree, Bond is a great choice.

  • @HazeHound Your way of thinking would be correct if the killer was standing around doing nothing.

  • @MhhBurgers said:

The only time you're not getting at least 20k BP is when the killer ABSOLUTELY crushes you.

I wouldn't mind a few general BP changes tho.

@MhhBurgers That could be true if the cap of 8k bp per category wouldn't exist. But how it is currently, 20k bp as a survivor is not the norm.

  • Builds 1 +2 are okay, build 3 is more fun and something that you don't see often.

@HazeHound With the current healing times, Self Caring isn't efficient anymore. If you want to bring it because you don't want to rely on random teammates, that's okay, of course.

  • @MhhBurgers As I started above, unsafe unhooks shouldn't award the yolo safer. No WGLF stacks and so on. These are necessary changes anyway. Were those changes implemented, I don't see a problem with giving 100% after-match bonus for No Mither.

  • @Wolf74 said:

Here we go again… survivor being eager to give up a health state.

This only shows how overconfident most survivor are.

Buffing it so far that it is "worth it" to pick, would totally screw over any killer with a "one-hit"-ability.

@Wolf74 Not "most survivors". Think of the many threads there are with complaints about one-hit abilities.

  • @Speshul_Kitten said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/392704#Comment_392704

Then potatoes would just farm with No Mither and WGLF, I don’t think bloodpoints is the best way to go.

@Speshul_Kitten That's a problem with WGLF and how bloodpoints for hook rescues are awarded. Players should not get WGLF stacks for unsafe unhooks. Unsafe unhooks should only give like 500 bp or none at all so that it's not an incentive to farm.

I'd really like to see bonus bp as a reward for No Mither.

Why are ppl on this forum so adamant about buffing the ppl that don't need buffs in the first place but leaving most survivors in the dust that get ######### anyways. Then ppl ask "why did so many players leave"

@MhhBurgers I hope you are not talking about me. I'm not a fan of MoM.

  • @Madjura I didn't say "never heal". It depends on the situation. For MoM, you stop healing after you've used the effect of the perk, IF you even care about that aura reading part. Because that is another thing: Some players don't care about the aura reading aspect (think of Object of Obession).

And Self-Care isn't an efficient perk anymore. The perk slot should be used for other things. Autodidact always was a wasted perk slot. And there's not a big problem using Adrenaline with MoM since you are only getting healed after all the gens are done.

Really, it's a powerful perk for loopers. It's a terrible perk for people who get hit 8 seconds after being in a chase. It's the same with the old DS: It was super powerful for people who could use the effect to buy their teammates an additional minute. It wasn't that powerful for people who got downed again 8 seconds after they have used the perk.

  • @Saint_Ukraine The aura reading only activates if the surv decides to heal. Since a lot of players don't heal because of efficiency, especially in the later stages of a match, there isn't a real downside to this perk. It's surely not a perk for everybody but a powerful one for good loopers.

  • @Manito That's a good analysis. I don't want to have the old pipping system back, but the current one needs to get a rework. In general, the required amount of Emblem points needs to be lowered a tiny bit. Also, how killer Emblems are earned needs adjustments, but you described that already in the op.

Besides that, I'm not a fan of the Emblem system in general. I'd like pipping to be bloodpoint-related again. (And for that, the 8k bp cap per category would need to be removed.)

  • It's supposed to be hard mode, not "useful" in the traditional sense. So bonus bloodpoints would be the logical thing.

  • Yeah, I've had the same problem.

  • @Aceonfire Region lock makes a lot of sense. The majority of people doesn't want to play matches with 400 ping.

  • @Wicked_Django said:

Honestly, if you are going to quit this game because of Legion, its best you leave. Legion is the easiest killer to play against. He’s slow, his power gives you a sprint burst to the nearest pallet, and he has zero map pressure. I see people waste so much time healing after getting hit. Stop healing. Youre wasting time.

@Wicked_Django People don't like Legion because he's annoying to play against, not because they think he's hard to beat.

  • @MhhBurgers said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/391189#Comment_391189

Killing randoms is something that literally everybody can do, SWF does not automatically mean they will play optimal. Survivors who play optimal cannot be beat unless you play billy/nurse and that's just a fact.

btw it's funny that you mention scottjund because he got schooled by a SWF that is in his level. Zubat got schooled by Baefu's group when he played plague.

@MhhBurgers Wait - did Baefu start streaming again? (Sorry for the off-topic)

  • @TheBean Correct. The new matchmaking was supposed to make it so that everybody would get lobbies in few minutes, at the expense of people not getting matched with well fitting ranks anymore. It shouldn't be that somebody has to wait half an hour.

  • @Khalednazari said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/391488#Comment_391488

Tired of the matchmaking before, I quit. I got back with the plague, and the new matchmaking. Wait time was under 30 seconds, with green and yellow ping lobbies 90% of the times. I ask, what's changed in the last 3 days? Definitely not my region. I am playing in the same country.

Like three days ago, the devs went back to the old matchmaking. Yesterday, the devs reactivated the new matchmaking, but this time with a region lock.

So I think your region is the reason for the long waiting times.

  • @Khalednazari said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/391366#Comment_391366

I am playing right now. The estimated wait time starts at 5 minutes. It goes down to one minute with time and then jumps back to 3 or 4 minutes. It goes on in a loop, until I actually find a match with a high ping. Is this intended? Starting at 5 minutes?

@Khalednazari It sounds weird that your timer goes into a loop. I'm afraid I don't know if this is a bug.

Maybe your region is the "problem". Solo surv on rank 11 by itself shouldn't have any problems finding matches.

  • @Sinner The op said they are leaving the game and gave a reason which is untrue. The question whether the op has ever played killer is legitimate, since somebody who has played one single game as killer must have noticed that there is no auto aim.

I'm a surv main btw. Not everybody who wants fairness and balance here is a killer main.

  • @TheBean I believe it's important that inexperienced players don't have to play against experienced ones. New players would lose their motivation to play DbD pretty fast if they got trolled regularly. And at least I would like to see the DbD community to grow.

  • @Khalednazari said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/391349#Comment_391349

This saddens me. I love this game, but how can one continue loving it when you are just staring at the waiting logo for 30 minutes.

What role/rank are you playing on PS4 that it takes you 30 minutes to get a lobby, if I may ask?

  • I think there'll be cosmetics for him. It's been quite a while since the last licensed characters have been released. Now, cosmetics are a big part of how BHVR is earning money so I think it's a logical consequence that Ash will get cosmetics.
