  • Since the entity feeds on strong emotions, I suppose ignoring the other 3 while the killer camps one survivor means the entity is missing out on the emotions of the other 3 survivors

I'm the same. I've had suspicions of course, recently an Oni, but no actual proof. I think most are absolutely subtle but at the end of the day they can have their "victory", I'll just move on.

I think the problem is simply the lack of fun.

The general complaints from the killer side recently mostly revolve around gens flying, while most survivors are complaining about gen regression perks. Though one thing is deeply connected to the other.

It is unreasonable to expect survivors to do anything other than gens at this point. Everything else they could do (namely: totems, healing and chases) has suffered so much with unnecessary changes that essentially there is no choice but to commit to the objective you have left, or you lose the trial.

To counter that, killers stack slowdown perks. And naturally, no one has fun.

Lack of fun is definitely a factor.

Survivors complaining about gen regression though shows that it's still decent and having an impact, which isn't a bad thing. IMO PR+PGTW are massively effective in every game I see them in (which is most lol), and I personally think they're fine because they're setting back progression but not stopping it completely. I do see alot of killers complaining that the opposite is true, that gen regression is not good enough and usually theyll refer back to the start of year nerfs. Which of course happened because of the gen kick meta era when they could literally halt progression as opposed to just setting it back. That's become the standard on which too many killers base the current state of killer (imo anyway, though it was a shared consensus in the discussion).

  • Mental health is such a delicate thing, it's actually a good thing that you recognize triggers and take appropriate care. Just going into the lobby as killer though is good exposure for yourself, even if you don't end up going through with the match. Maybe one day you'll be in there and think, hey I think I can actually do this. But it's okay if you can't. Take care.

  • I think it was less about the efficiency and more about the hooked survivor being prevented from actually playing. A hook trade still enables the unhooked survivor a chance to participate, so proxy camping is still a thing.

  • I don't use Distortion but I've noticed a lot more team mates are using it and i honestly can't say I've noticed a difference in my games. If anything, my escape rate has actually increased the last week.

the idea of mutiple AI roaming around the map is an idea from Nemesis. They don't want to buff nemesis zombies for some reason. One thing I don't understand is that at one point, they said 3 zombies is too much for dbd because it would cause lag yet I see 3 guards AI spawned? is there something we are missing because I do not see dbd lagging in that video.

I'm no game designer, but it's possible that the difference is in that the guards are temporary but the zombies are fixed. So the game may not have to work as hard with the former as it does the latter.

  • I gotta say, the "aarrgh" from all those guards at the same time would drive me absolutely bonkers before long 😂

“I don't think the game is particularly hard for Killers.”

    It’s not. At all.

I also play the role, as well as frequently watching sets of matches from various levels of players to see the ratio of 4K matches, all the while personally vibing with honest players irl who concur and understand this truth.

DBD has become increasingly easier for Killer players; dramatically easy-mode over the last 2 years.

Players know and understand this truth (especially Killer Mains) and opt into a stance of hard denial (especially on the forums and in polls) so the Developers will continue to hold Killer player’s hands and serve up the most simplistic 4K possible.

Buffs to sweeten the experience for new Killer players have only handed over the entire candy factory to those who’ve invested multi-K hours and effortlessly dominate the role.

Developers have opted to raise up SWF like it was Simba in the Lion King, while disowning the unloved SoloQ child altogether; It’ll be a hud here and a hud there, moving forward, but true balancing efforts have lost their significance.

I do believe Devs will address Tunneling by way of a restructuring of ‘ground rules’ for necessity ‘strat Tunneling,’ and punishingly regulating the toxic variety of Tunnelers. Though, at the slog rate to which needed changes are brought about (or never are) in this game, unfortunately, anyone holding their breath is already long time dead.

"Players know and understand this truth (especially Killer Mains) and opt into a stance of hard denial (especially on the forums and in polls) so the Developers will continue to hold Killer player’s hands and serve up the most simplistic 4K possible"

I was involved in a discussion on this on Twitch, about how frequent killer complaints are these days despite the role being easier to play than ever before. And the conclusion reached was that the devs allowed the gen kick meta to go on for too long. It's why so many complaints about gen regression perks still dominate too. The success of that time is cemented in so many minds that it's become the standard for what *should* be happening, as opposed to an unfortunate circumstance of perfect synergy between a select few reworked perks.

So I don't know whether it's true that these players "know" these truths, as opposed to them having expectations that will honestly never be met.

  • I'm pretty sure these winstreaks are part of the reason content creators were unhappy with the soft cap being raised. Some seem to think BHVR have reverted the change (would love confirmation but I doubt we will get it) so it seems like they rely on matchmaking being as poor as it is in order to do these.

  • I've been playing her in her reindeer onesie for the season. Have come across a few others.

  • Well first, working with the killer is reportable so that's an option for you in that scenario.

In general, you want your team mates to stay alive as long as possible. That increases your chances of escape. If everyone is 2 hooked and you haven't been hooked once, that's probably your cue to seek out the killer and use your hook states to buy time for the team.

  • A number of my survivor games have 2-3 gens pop early. Most end with 3-4k with gens still remaining. Survivors are strongest early game and weakest later game, as resources dwindle.

  • If I have too many bad games in a row, I just stop playing. No game is worth feeling frustrated over.

I havent been playing much lately but I played 2 games last night and first game was a crazy sweaty Artist, and a survivor ended up letting go on hook pretty early. Second game was a seemingly sweaty Nurse, who was trying to tunnel at 5 gens but was unsuccessful at finding the survivor (indoor map helped). She wasted too much time and just ended up having a snowball fight with everyone later so I'm glad she decided to chill out.

I'm kind of at the point where I don't put a huge amount of effort against sweaty killers anymore. For me it's not that deep and if the kill means more to them than anything then I don't care, they can have it. I won't give up but i won't try very hard either. Only time I'll try is if team mates are sticking their neck out for me but that's pretty rare.

  • Kind of depends what mood I'm in, but I enjoy Ormond, Mother's Dwelling, and Blood Lodge atm.

  • I'm enjoying Overzealous with a map and red twine add on. For good measure I have Inner Strength and Counterforce too, just to make the most of my time.

  • Yeah this always makes me laugh lol I can never reveal him when I want to, but always do when I don't want to

  • I keep hoping someone will bring an Ormond offering so I can see the decorated cabin

  • Everyone has different tastes, and that's fine. My hubby likes to play Fortnite but I dont get the appeal. He in turn doesn't get the appeal of DBD.

  • Yeah, I feel like matchmaking has alot to answer for. I don't know why I get matched with alot of the people I do. Like I'll be the only one on a gen while another person is hooked, so naturally I'll assume one of the other two are going for the unhook but no... the hooked person goes to second stage. So I have to leave my gen to unhook them (provided the killer hasnt come my way, in which case I'm now in chase), which now leaves no one on a gen. No game sense among some people.

  • I've only had a few killers participating, most are just playing normally. Had a couple sweats but they haven't been the norm thankfully.

  • I love seeing this sort of data so thanks for sharing!

I tracked my own games for a good 6 months and it's interesting, I think by the end I saw a tunneler an average of 1/10 games. But I'm definitely not in high MMR, as you must be, so I imagine people try harder in that bracket than my own. My escape rate settled on 35%, which surprised me tbh. You had a pretty impressive result I must say.

  • Yeah it'd be the snow piles and snowmen interfering with spawn sites

  • "Over the next years" doesn't really make sense. Either they meant "over the next few years" or "over the next year" (accidentally put an s). Hopefully the latter.

  • So that every time we leave a gen it explodes

  • I've been using Overzealous + Inner Strength + Counterforce with a map (red twine and odd stamp add ons) and I've been having really good games and yeah, gens are actually getting done. It's likely an effect of the recent MMR changes, but I feel like I save time or at least am using it more efficiently with this build. Team mates don't have to jump off gens to heal me, I get decent gen progression (especially with hex totems), and the map means I don't waste time searching for totems and Counterforce lets me cleanse them faster. Plus I can find gens in late game much easier.

  • A team of efficient solo players can sometimes feel like a coordinated swf. Sometimes a killer might also overvalue their performance and ignore a number of mistakes that made things easier for the survivors. I was watching Hens play solo the other night and a Nurse called them a gen rush squad. Hens rightfully pointed out that she relied too much on BBQ because after hooking him she completely ignored the survivor on a nearby 70% generator and instead followed BBQ to an aura across the map. She made bad plays but from her perception they were coordinating (with no gen perks or toolboxes no less).

  • @MrDrMedicman said:

Yellow ones are event generators, they give a LOT more bps for survivors

I had no idea there were 2 different generators 🫠 I need to pay attention more

  • Only way to comfortably play solo queue is not to play to escape. Escape should just be a pleasant surprise. The only time I play for an escape is when it's clear the others are (ie I see them doing *something* via the HUD). If it's blank for too long then it's clear my team mates dgaf so I won't either.

  • I've said a few times I'd happily take what I could get on the cross progression front. I think they just need to be upfront and most people will understand why there are barriers to transferring some content. Something is better than nothing imo.

  • I liked the Deceptively Scary option

The idea of hook grab removal being due to survivor on survivor harassment makes no sense though since they can still do that part.

Dunno about survivor on survivor harassment, but I remember reading the notes and the impression I got was that it was kind of like a QOL thing for the hooked person.

"Grabs from unhooking Survivors have been removed. This means that the awkward mindgame when unhooking has been eliminated, helping to improve the gameplay flow"

  • I'm pretty sure it was actually because of the hooked survivor being subjected to the 'hook dance' between the killer and rescuer. That was the impression I got. That annoying back and forth on their screen.

  • I had a similar situation on Lerys though the counter did fill up, but when I selected unhook it got cancelled by a skill check, which I obviously missed because I was pressing the unhook button and I died lol

  • Disagree about Zarina. She's my main so I take notice when I see her in my lobby and I feel like I see her quite a bit. I see alot of Yui too. Thalita would be uncommon for me.

I feel like that Otz video was mostly just a build up of stress that he finally let loose. Deciding to abandon a bunch of video types over a AMA is silly and even if the AMA did go well, he probably would have let some of them go anyway which I think is for the best.

He plays DBD a lot and needs a bit of a break. Having less content types will let him focus on other games and on the content types he enjoys which will help his mindset IMO.

Now lets get to some of his AMA complaints and my opinions thereafter.

    No Custom Lobby Changes:

I'm 50/50 with. I get why he wants it but I also get why it's not a major priority. DBD will never be a hardcore comp game no matter what changes they make and many people consider comp DBD a joke. At best they could add seed selectors to make things fair but even then, it's still the same stuff.

    No More General Perks:

I actually disagree with Otz a bit on this one. The general pool isn't great but now more then ever it's not that much of a grind to get extra perks from other free characters. 1.2mil or so to get P1 and then you have whatever perk you wanted unlocked for everyone. This gives an incentive to grind for newer players and it also gives them an idea what the game is about.

If newer players don't stay it's not because of perks but because of the general gameplay loop. New players also won't be able to make proper use of stronger perks either and it runs the risk of them getting their MMR too high if they do.

I get wanting to have more stuff for newer players which I'm fine with; the character price reduction was great for this but I don't think extra perks is the way IMO.

    Lobby Screen Updates:

I agree with Otz here. I don't know what kinda weird ass code they have but it shouldn't take years to make a simple change like that; coming from someone who knows nothing about code. If the Lobbies are that hardcoded then I'd rather see an entire lobby rework to make things nicer; be able to switch themes, etc.

    SWF/Solo Gap:

As someone who plays in a 2-man and solo I actually agree with the devs a bit. I would have said info was the biggest problem but the Hud update is an absolute godsend. Even without direct communication you can get an idea of what's happening and adapt on the spot. It's not as good as coms but it's enough to play IMO

To me general skill is the bigger issue. As killer I'd rather have the average 4-man SWF then I would a group of 4 good solos. As solo it's all about carrying equal weight and picking up slack for those who aren't. Sometimes you can and other times you can't. Sometimes you're the bad solo teammate and sometimes you're not.

    Killing Self On Hook Solution:

I'm happy the devs were blunt about this because I agree there is nothing they can currently do. If people want to be done with that match then they will be done. Even if you Band-Aid fix hooks they can go AFK or start to troll. Whatever the case the match is still ruined all the same and people will complain more about the "solution" because it didn't work.

I don't think this issue is fixable with how the game currently works and good on them for being blunt about it. If you really hate it that much then bring reassurance to troll a little.

    Final Thoughts:

I don't think I missed anything but overall I feel Otz needs a break. It feels like he's burnout and why wouldn't he be? He puts a lot of time and effort into the game and his videos. I need a break between tomes to feel refreshed; if I played DBD all the time I doubt I'd last a year and would quit, though I could say the same for any game.

I don't think it's solely about the AMA. Him dropping his winstreak content, for example, I think has more to do with the recent MMR changes making his games a bit harder than anything the AMA gave. IMO, 50 winstreaks *shouldn't* be easy. Especially not at high MMR.

Having watched the video since my initial comment, I think it's a culmination of things that have built up and the AMA was just the breaking point. I guarantee burn out is at the base of it all. Someone mentioned above that he's becoming a "less whiny" Tru3, and honestly, one thing I empathise with both is that they're clearly burnt out but this is their job and how they make their damn good income and they don't want to give the latter up. They think changing the game will make them feel better, and revive their interest, but the fact is they'll still be burnt out at the end of the day.

I keep trying to use Empathetic Connection with Autodidact with hopes of getting a "Come to me my child" build going...

So far it's been maybe 1 game out of 30 games where it has actually done something and my team has figured out to come to me for heals... the rest of the time I finish the game sat on 2 stacks 😭

Edit: more often than not it leads to rage when said teammates can see my aura working on a 90% complete generator in the middle of a 3 gen, and decides to bring the killer straight to me.... it's like I know you can see me man!!!! 🤬

I played with a Steve earlier who was running Autodidact and Empathetic Connection. It was actually quite smart, everyone was absolutely coming to him and he wound up with super fast heals.

No gonna lie as main killer if snowballs gives 500 points per hit i wouldnt mind participate but i feel its a stupid mechanic we all will forgot next week.

I actually didn't even pay attention to the bp gains. I agree with you that more killers would probably participate if they got rewarded nicely for it. I havent had a killer participating yet, though one did essentially let me go after i popped out of a doorway and pelted him with a couple snowballs. His inner child was still in there, deep down.

There is always things that can be done to mitigate it and they need to work on the underlying issues that cause some people to not want to play the game.

But with the dbd community especially but any playbase for that matter you can't just let people leave in a random moment of frustration. That just causes a cascading affect through the player base.

Dc timers being where they are at can be argued but allowing survivors to exclusively leave the game the second they get hooked is not arguable. People will give up on hook for any little thing, not because they are being tunneled and camped. My experience with people giving up on either side is always random, never because of the classic reasons survivors have to be mad.

You could delete tunneling, camping, slugging and every killer A tier or above and people would still give up on first hook with the 1 gen left. You don't just let them do that for free. If you have something you need to attend to quick irl or you just can't play against knight for a third time in a row then you can eat the first couple miniscule penalty's the game gives you for leaving.

In league people will go super tilted and want out so badly but will still be active in the game always. The sentiment that deleting the ability to self unhook without deli will just cause people to troll their team is unfounded.

While good points, from BHVRs perspective (as a business) having harsher penalties is probably less about trolling concerns and more about players just outright leaving the game. Leaving people free to vent their frustrations means they don't really feel pressured to make any fundamental changes to the game.

Your post seemed to suggest that most instances of ragequitting or playing less like a team player has to do with killer actions. While some absolutely do, and always have, I believe most survivor issues revolve around team mates. I'm sure most solo players find themselves repeatedly asking exactly why they're being matched with these people. The longer they get these terrible team mates, the less likely they are to play as a team player. They're most likely to just play for themselves.

BHVR are correct when they say people not playing as a team are the crux of solo queue issues, but i think they're incorrect when they say more info won't help. I don't know what the answer is btw, or even if there is one. I honestly give myself a headache any time I try to figure it out.

  • @Coffeecrashing said:

Ragequitters and lone wolf survivors are way more damaging to solo q, than the lack of voice comm information.

Those are symptoms of a larger problem. There have always been rage quitters and lone wolf players in team games, but if players are to be believed that these are becoming more and more frequent then it suggests a driving force somewhere. IMO it stems from matchmaking issues. They can slap bandaids all they like but eventually something is gonna give.

  • No, but I don't experience FOMO. If I miss out, I miss out. I'm not fussed. I've played 3 games today and I might play a couple more tonight if I can be bothered.

Sadly few people actually use the forums. Not the best reputation you know? I understand that they don't want to use the forum for something like that.

Well... the Forums are the official channel connecting us to the devs.

Feedback from here definitely should take priority over other lines of communication.

Disagree with that last line. Radiant is correct - if you hang out in other DBD online circles, you'll know the reputation this forum has. Alot of players avoid it like the plague, and honestly sometimes I read posts here and understand why they do. While it's definitely the easiest place for the devs to get a finger on the pulse of the playerbase, the fact that the devs have an increased presence over on Reddit (I'm pretty sure they've taken over the main sub there in recent months, or at least partially) suggests they're well aware that it's not in their best interest to prioritise forum feedback. At least not anymore.

  • I've only played 3 games so far but it's been alright. None of the killers have participated yet but survivors have been decking me in the face with snowballs alot and it's quite funny

  • Something to do other than sit there staring at 3 crows circling your head I guess

  • I have no issue with Otz (full disclosure, I prefer to watch Niina. Sorry not sorry) and whatever he chooses to do, I respect that. I feel like whenever i see him on Twitch he's playing a different game anyway and only pops into DBD for PTB and new chapter releases. So if he's considering quitting (I havent watch his video) it's a long time coming imo.

Having said that, I do think that the Reddit AMAs aren't having the effect the devs think they are. It's hardly worth anyone's time when they're telling us nothing of any interest. And their blase response to solo queue tells me they are completely out of touch with the player base. It honestly came off to me as though solo queue issues have hardly crossed their mind. I'd prefer to have hope that they're considering *something* as opposed to knowing they seemingly don't care, or at the very least have washed their hands of any options.
