  • Tbf, the other slowdowns got nerfed because people were using their synergy to stall games for as long as they could. Not just to slow down gens. The devs are probably gonna be alot more careful with slowdown perks going forward as a result.

  • Happy new year everyone <3

  • It's a perk that you know won't wind up just being a wasted perk slot. Lots of popular survivor perks have been nerfed over the past 18 months to be situational, so it's not surprising that a perk - albeit an older one - that gives value each game has risen to top spot. Its best value is in knowing which pallets have been used by your team mates, so it's popular among solo players who make up majority of the survivor base.

  • The thing that makes me suspect they've reverted it, is that alot of the content creators have stopped complaining. They were really loudly unhappy when the cap was increased. They seem to have gotten over that quickly...

  • Yeah I'm loving the snowball fights. They should make it a feature of Ormond. A Ghostface 2 hooked us last night and then he and I had a snowball fight in the street of Badham. He tried to make me leave during endgame but I was having too much fun, so we pelted each other until the entity took me.

I think most players probably assume right away that it’s CoH if they see a boon pop up. Any additional boons matched up with it are probably situational but can still be helpful.

I think so too. I don't really see boons much anymore and I know both Resilience and Distortion are popular atm, so I figured maybe people would like the aura hiding of SS rather than the healing of CoH. I think I might run both for a bit and see how I go.

  • Yes but very rarely. If I have an exceptionally unpleasant game thanks to things (or people) outside of my control, then I like to give a nice 1/5.

  • I'm a survivor main. I hate going against him. For comparison, I enjoy going against Nurse so no bias here. I just plain hate going against Trickster.

Well, that's true, but that's only by the time you're there. If I'm in chase and I see a boon totem, I can lead the killer there in the hope that it's Shadow Step, but I wouldn't know before I get there. And if it's CoH, I've just run the risk of interrupting a heal.

Conversely, if I need healing and run across the map to Shadow Step, I'll just have wasted a ton of extra time.

You see the aura of injured team mates if they're in a CoH boon, so you wouldn't interrupt a heal thankfully. That would also be the best tell that CoH is in play.

But I may just run both anyway and see how I go

It doesn't matter, because I can't tell which one it is and thus don't know how to use it.

The little perk symbol shows up in the bottom right of your screen when you're in the Boon zone. If it has a cross in it then it's CoH, if it has a foot then it's SS. I can't remember what the other two boon perks look like lol

i'd prefer boon:dark theory out of all boons. the extra speed might make you not get hit extending chases. I miss my mft+dark theory build, that build was hilarious.

Yeah if I was asking this question a couple months ago, then I probably would have given more consideration to Dark Theory (though I didn't use MFT personally). But on its own I've never really felt much of an impact.

It's literally 100% survivor bonus like 90% of the time. Solo players get the short end of the stick because the game is horribly balanced.

It actually depends on region and MMR too. Back when I started on PS5 and was low MMR, the 100% bonus was on killer most of the time. At the same time though, on my Switch which had 2+ years of play time and firmly in mid-MMR it was 100% survivor most of the time. I'd literally have both switched on at the same time, one with killer bonus and one with survivor bonus lol

  • She does well in low MMR I imagine, but the higher you get the harder it probably gets to win. I suspect that's why they had the recent change, where flashlights no longer work on her traps. Because it's a change that's likely to help her in higher MMR brackets while barely having an effect in lower MMR brackets. Higher MMR survivors are more efficient at setting off/wasting her traps.

  • "If the Killer bias of 60% kill rate were to go away, say down to 50% or lower, would DBD still be DBD?"

The killrate only increased to 60% with update 6.1 (2022). I think it's fine at 60% but yeah, the game would still be DBD as the average killrate was like 51% before that (iirc).

At the end of the day, it's a game and a power "fantasy" will only go as far as your skill takes you. If being the power role means that a person who picks up the game today should be able to have the upper hand as killer against survivors who have played the game for alot longer, then it wouldn't bode well for the health and longevity of the game.

Also the argument seems to come down to kills vs escapes. Alot of people play this game without either in mind. Fun is subjective. Some people find kills that are too easy to be boring, and others find escapes that are too easy to be boring. Your question is very black and white and I don't think there is a proper answer besides the kill rate being at a level that keeps killers satisfied and enables survivors a *chance*, despite the differing goals of whatever team mates they've been matched with.

  • I'm doing this challenge too but I'd rather do it naturally. Takes longer but doesn't ruin the game for everyone. As someone else said, change your username. I had a team mate do that and a Nurse of all killers would stop near a pallet for him to stun her lol

  • Just don't drop the pallet, run to the side. Theyll usually strike and miss. Windows are a bit harder, because lots have stuff next to them so it can be hard to fake a vault.

They put themselves in a bit of a pickle because certain things seem non-negotiable for the devs, and those things directly affect solo queue.

They don't want the game to go in a more competitive direction, so matchmaking remains loose if it's left to its own devices i.e. not SWF. It's not a lack of teamwork that kills solo teams in my experience. It's one or two players being *significantly* worse than their teammates, leading to thrown matches.

They also don't seem to have any plans for players to curate their experience. This ties into the first non-negotiable. I load up OW, Rocket League, Street Fighter, Madden, etc, and I have a choice between quick play or competitive. There's a decent chance I can get the type of game I want in either queue. With DbD, there's a good chance you *won't* get the type of game you want. There's no choice. Want to chill? Sorry, Seal Team Swf or killer playing for a Subway gift card. Want to sweat? You'll 4k at 5 gens and half the survivors will d/c.

And that's a problem because "fixing solo queue" can mean different things to everyone. For me, I tend to play more seriously and want a more consistently sweaty solo queue experience. I don't care if the killer is hard tunneling, but I do care if nobody knows what to do about it. Other people might want something more relaxed out of solo queue. Depends on who you ask.

"They don't want the game to go in a more competitive direction, so matchmaking remains loose if it's left to its own devices i.e. not SWF. It's not a lack of teamwork that kills solo teams in my experience. It's one or two players being *significantly* worse than their teammates, leading to thrown matches."

I'm glad it's not just me that noticed this. I feel like solo queue matchmaking is generally two survivors equal to or slightly more skilled than the killer, and two survivors less skilled than the killer. Provided no dodging has taken place to muddle that up. If the killer finds one of the former two, they just have to hope that the latter two are actually being productive. Usually they aren't lol

  • They can still proxy camp, the team has to hook trade basically (though with Bubba you both could end up on hook). I had a killer a couple days ago who hooked first person on a corner hook that had that hill just to the side. So he would hook then go up the hill and had a perfect vantage point of every direction when someone was coming for a save, without affecting the AFC mechanic much. He'd get a hit, then a hook trade. Rinse and repeat. He got lucky with his set up. Really boring way to play imo but I guess some people enjoy it.

  • Yeah, I give every killer update time before making a final judgement on them. So people have time to learn to play as or against him. IMO there is very little I can do on alot of maps or spaces against him. Unless you have high short-length walls, it's very hard to avoid hits. And alot of map reworks seem to involve dead zones and alot more unsafe loops - which against a Trickster are useless rather than simply unsafe. Ducking against ranged killers is always the best tactic with those sorts of tiles but Trickster being faster now makes that pointless, as i just lose ground.

I dunno what the answer is though tbh. I think when it comes to killers BHVR would value the opinion of the people who play them more, as with a roster of 30+ killers survivors wouldn't go against him all that often to affect their decision to play the game. If a killer felt bad to play as though, it could affect a small chunk of the player base's decision to play. Last game I played against him was on Haddonfield and he almost had a 4k at 5 gens. Two survivors DCd, so he killed the bots and then went AFK so the two of us left could smash gens and leave. Guessing he didn't find that game very enjoyable either.

  • I'm not bothered by her. I usually die against her but she's not oppressive, I can usually have a decent game against her.

  • This is really all just a matter of opinion. I have a different opinion on a number of these killers.

  • I played two games on Christmas (yesterday here in Australia) and stopped because first was a camping killer and the whole game was hook trading, and second game I was matched with a trio who left me to die on hook. I think it's just a weekend/holiday thing. My games are usually all over the place during those times.

  • Tbh, it seems even actual cheaters have a hard time getting banned. So I imagine you'll be fine.

  • Yeah I got matched with three P100s the other day and I, no joke, waited in lobby for the longest that I have ever waited in the 3 years since I started playing. I was just browsing on my phone and could just hear the sound of killers leaving repeatedly. And the P100s weren't any good either. Hiding prestiges would have helped.

I've been sitting here for ages trying to find the right way to word all this so that it doesn't come across as whiny or anything like that to explain something that has plagued me about DbD for ages: It quite literally makes me feel physically miserable.

I don't expect to win every match but going against a SWF is one of the most stressful things I experience in gaming. All the pressure is on you as the Killer and a coordinated SWF is a nightmare to deal with and they just make me want to quit the game and not play due to the stress it puts me under.

I do not think survivor mains realize just how insanely stressful being the Killer is, especially when you are going against a full four man SWF that are communicating over voice comms. Those matches make me physically anxious and stressed out. That is the primary reason I hate playing against SWFs: How can I enjoy the game when it is stressing me out and affecting me physically?

Now you may ask "How can a game stress you out that much?". The answer is simple: I suffer from both a major depressive disorder and a generalized anxiety disorder and thus I have a hard time disassociating from things that I logically know shouldn't be stressing me out and making me anxious but still do. Furthermore, when I am in a match that isn't stressful and I don't feel like I'm struggling to do anything, I can have a ton of fun and the stress isn't really well. Even if a few survivors escape, if I had fun it was still a blast.

There I times I have to wonder if BHVR themselves know how stressful they have made things for Killers at high tier play due to the prevalence of SWFs and how so many Killers simply are not viable at high MMR play.

I do not enjoy playing against Seal Team Six as they get generator after generator done and I struggle to get hooks or win chases because they are somehow god tier loopers and body blockers. Games are first and foremost are supposed to be fun and playing against a SWF is not fun. There's a reason I keep hoping to either see how many survivors in the lobby are part of a premade or for playing against SWFs to be a matchmaking choice I can opt out of as a Killer.

High tier players are at that level because they want to win, try hard to win, and often do win. Why would you expect games at that level to be anything other than difficult? If you're in high MMR then presumably you play the same way. I saw in Pulsar's thread that you mention tunnelling being the best strategy for a killer, which I don't care if you do or don't tunnel, but you might find the dev post below relevant to your situation. Particularly the 2nd and 3rd paragraphs.

Also, I have diagnosed depression and severe generalized anxiety disorder too. I couldn't imagine any form of competitive play being healthy for me, and the energy of high tier play would make it worse. Setting zero expectations on myself and not caring about winning keeps me at an MMR I find relaxing more often than not.

Agree to disagree I guess. I saw insane numbers of threads and tweets about Eruption, far more than all the complaints about WoO combined.

Do you mean the 6.1 buffed Eruption that left survivors incapacitated for 30s? Because even the devs agreed that was ridiculous and pretty much got rid of Incapacitated after that.

Also, no one complained about STBFL. In fact, when the devs announced they were reworking it people were asking why when no one had seen any complaints about it. So not a fan of this sudden 'survivors complained so it's getting reworked' narrative, when everyone agreed initially that there were zero complaints. Suddenly there were? News to me...

  • I have no idea how to chase against this killer but I do know I get hit every time I drop a pallet so i no longer do that and actually last longer 🤣 instead of dropping, I'll run to the side and their tail whip misses, which gives me a bit of time. I can usually repeat this a couple times. I also randomly run around her to confuse her when she gets too close. Most Xenos are used to getting tail hits so this works on those who don't usually use basic hits, I think because they forget it's even an option. If they keep using their tail while I'm right up against them, they'll usually miss. And of course, if you have good solo team mates there will be turrets somewhere to use. If she's knocked out of power then looping and pallets are good to go.

  • Yup. I said awhile ago that I don't know why they didn't just have it for non-DLC content if the DLCs were the issue. I've got Rift stuff, charms, cosmetics - from store and Prime, etc, that I'd love to move over. Not to mention all my items.

  • They tightened MMR not long ago, so alot of folk who were in a bracket they shouldn't have been are probably struggling. I personally haven't noticed any killer DCs but I'm not in a high bracket.

Again, I feel this is a direct reflection of the tunnel meta. If you're not hooked in the first place, you cant be tunneled. And since on average, my soloQ games result in about a 50% tunnel/not tunnel killers, Id say stealth is viable.

Especially if you just want to play the game. Tunneling really destroys a players ability to 'play' dbd. No wonder BHVR want to do something about it. I just wonder if they have that ability.

It's hard to say because tunnelling has been the biggest and most common complaint I've seen in the whole 3 years I've been playing. Stealth has always been a viable option, and I'd see it at times with team mates, but very few of them would use CS or Distortion. So I'd say the sudden popularity of these perks is more likely a direct response to UW and FttE than anything.

  • @Spare_Them_Mori_Me said:

As others have said, Calm spirit and Distortion is a direct result of killers getting what they wanted from BHVR. Discordance, Spies and surveillance are the new winners of info perks.

If someone had told me last year that Calm Spirit would be as popular as it is right now, I'd have called them nuts lol I feel like it's a bad reflection on the current state of survivor that most folks who didn't care about stealth now feel they need it to stand a chance.

  • You just find them the old fashion way. I went against a Huntress the other day with a complete aura build plus Glowing Concoction add-on. The Claudette with Distortion didn't make it lol

  • I feel like it changes for me every so often.

I like going against Nurse, Demo, Nemesis, Billy, and even Blight to an extent.

Dislike Trickster, SM, Clown, and Huntress.

  • Happy holidays everyone. It's been a great year in the fog with you all

  • I'm having fun. Most people are playing normally with some fun snowballs in between. Had a small handful of party poopers but nothing remarkable.

  • I do it for a bit of fun and thankfully most killers see it the same way. The only time I think people see it as toxic is when it's being thrown at you while on hook or on the ground. I had a Jane the other day that I went down for - she was death hook, injured, and in chase - and instead of unhooking me she hid and threw snowballs at me until I was sacrificed. She was hiding near the exit gate with Sole Survivor (1 gen to go that was almost finished right near her too) and the killer found the third survivor just before I died. She was clearly just being an ass.

  • Had a Wesker yesterday I was 100% positive had BBQ&Chilli. After hooking someone he made a beeline to someone else - even if they weren't on a gen (so he wasnt checking gens), like there was no gen in shack, I was just there doing a totem for example - then checked post-game as I was one of the last to die and he didn't have a single aura perk.

You know what's funny and infuriating? Since we don't have voice chat, I always picture the player looking like their survivor irl.

Some survivors' demeanor gets on my nerves more than others (Laurie and Leon) 😆

On a brighter note, I always think of you when I'm playing with a Zarina 🤗

Aww that makes me happy, Zarina is awesome

I hope this doesnt come off the wrong way, but this is the funniest thread Ive ever read.

The title amuses me lol it was like a confession

  • Unfortunately some people wrap their lives up in games and take them way too seriously. Probably stems from IRL inadequacies, idk. Or they're kids. It's easy to be rude from behind a screen. I think in general most people who play this game are fine. Everyone has their moments. But there are a very very unpleasant minority and we've all come across them at one time or another.

  • Mine have actually been fine. Over the past few days I've had no slugs, one proxy camping killer who didn't tunnel, and one tunneler who I'm pretty sure (from what I could see from my gen) only tunnelled because the unhooked person was the one they happened to come across next anyway. Having said that, I'm probably gonna get a terrible game now haha

  • Game sense is lacking among a lot of players. Taking stuff away isn't going to change that.

These are so cute! I especially love Claudette's frog and also need it in my life 😍 And Zarina's (I think is a Koala?) is super cute too

Yup 😊 as an Aussie I'd love a Zarina koala onesie

  • Its happened to me twice in 3 years that I've played. Once with a Clown and once with a Huntress. I spawned in right next to both. The Huntress behaved like you did but the Clown took full advantage of that bit of luck and tunnelled me out asap after that.

  • Poor Haddie always seems to be victim to this. The Entity must really hate her, making her carry backpacks around the fog all the time.

  • Is that a blonde Mikaela? Whyyy

  • It's stuff like this for me. I literally purposely used my last hook state to go down for this person, who was on death hook and injured and being chased, and this is what I cop in return. They have Sole Survivor btw, guessing that's why they're hiding near the exit. There is a gen nearby that was almost finished too. Another person to add to my list of folks to dodge..
