Can confirm that this works on PC, Steam version.
@MandyTalk Can you please update the notice at the top and include the information for this temporary workaround?
-
My face when a useless feature makes the game unplayable.
I am calling it useless because I have literally never had a game with a player from the Windows store (I use the Steam version) - at the very least I have never seen the cross-play icon that is supposed to be shown.

OK, so if BHVR decided to pull the plug, as they have for Deathgarden, would it be THE END for DBD, or would it be able to continue on?
Playing could go back to peer-to-peer, but matchmaking and player data would have to be hosted by someone else. Handing off player data to someone else for them to host it can be difficult because of data protection laws.
There is also the matter of the licensed characters for which the licensing deals would have to be re-negotiated if Behaviour goes under or decides to drop Dbd completely.
-
No, because then people will be upset because their items become useless overnight.
A good solution would be if we had the ability to recycle / sell items, something that has first been brought up years ago, and then increase the value of whatever is going to be nerfed until the patch goes live. This way people can decide whether or not to use up the item in question or to recycle / sell it for increased value.
-
If you target the same player across multiple games then that violates the rules.

That’s where that scoring needs to be adjusted. Just because the rescued survivor has 15 seconds of endurance doesn’t mean they’re safe. AT ALL.
BT’s only reward should be that the user knows they’re giving a survivor being camped a better chance of escape. That’s it.
That’s where that scoring needs to be adjusted. Just because the rescued survivor has 15 seconds of endurance doesn’t mean they’re safe. AT ALL.
It would make signifcantly more sense if you got progress when you heal a survivor that was unhooked in the last 60 or so seconds.
+1 progress for the unhooker
+ 1 progress for any other survivor that heals that survivor
+2 total if you unhook someone and heal them. If you unhook someone but block a hit for them, maybe even two and go down to protect them, you would still get your +1 for a safe unhook.

Player behavior. You really can't fix that and I don't want to be punished and lose the challenge feature just because some people are jerks and abusing Borrowed Time.
And I don't think BT unhooks should be unsafe because then you could get punished for unhooking in the lategame.
This is a necessary evil.

Some of these challenges are ridiculous: they remember me when I did my first exam of game design at the college. The game we made had some very hard and frustrating side objectives to achieve. Then I proposed to my team to change them to be still difficult but less stressful, because 1 of the metric was to keep the players happily and healthy interested in reaching their goals (even if challenging). Even with that change we failed that metric because they were still negative for the players behavior.
Now ... this was the "first" exam, the abc of game design ... who the hell even thought at BHVR these archives challenges, should be put elsewhere to work, maybe in doing some game design courses. Even in bathroom you shouldn't think something like this, and if you do, you should be ashamed after! Really, just can't understand how it is possible these challenges went troughs all the BHVR devs and QA, and came in live production to be seen by the rest of the world.
Challenging yes, but frustrating, toxic, rng, and time consuming side objectives it's a big nono. To BHVR: with all the respect of your staff, despite I'm no one to tell you this, I still like a lot this game, so plz check better the work of your employees, these things shouldn't even reach the internal testing environment ... #########!
I also dislike how most challenges have nothing to do with Claudette or the Trapper. There is potential for some cool challenges:
- after picking up a survivor, hook the same survivor within X seconds (can be made easier with Agitation but Agitation not required), survivor must not have been hooked in the last minute (to avoid camping/tunneling)
- consume X med-kit charges (made easier with Botany Knowledge but not required)
- be healed X amount of times
- while hiding in grass, be not be found by the killer for X minutes (Evader emblem already tracks being near the killer without being in a chase, this would track the same but only while in grass)
- cause survivors to fail X skill checks (any failed skill checks count, made easier with Unnerving Presence but it is not required)
Instead of random challenges that don't really have a strong connection to either character.

@brokedownpalace said:
Those challenges are a sick joke. Not only are they absurdly difficult, they will turn the game into a toxic salt mine. Not just survivor VS killer, survivors will be fighting each other as well.
And it is very easy to ruin the challenges by disconnecting.

@Avocet said:
One not very elegant but easy way to fix these challenges (if the devs have the desire to) is to remove the "in a single trial" requirement and pump up the numbers. It's going to be insane when people start to try to complete these challenges in their current form and other players start sabotaging their efforts. There's too much potential for griefing on top of the difficulty.
Another option would be to remove the "In a single trial" requirement, keep the numbers the same but add another requirement: "Can only get progress on MacMillan Estate maps.". This first release is supposed to be focused on the Trapper and Claudette but most challenges have nothing to do with them. This way there is at least some sort of weak connection to the Trapper, and it gives the map offerings a bit more use. Could become very annoying to play on those maps most of the time though because a lot of people will be using those offerings.
Edit: Another option would be to double the progress earned on MacMillan maps instead of working only on those maps.

How do survivors escape if the generators haven't been finished or the hatch isn't open?
They can use a key item to open the hatch. The hatch spawns when the number of repaired generators is greater than the number of living survivors.

Yes that could be. I will try it out
You probably have to use Plunderer's Instinct (perk) for it to count. There are two challenges for chests that I remember, one where you had to search 5 I think, and then a second one where you have to search 3 but with Plunderer's Instinct equipped.

@CakeDuty said:
A lot of these challenges are bs. Wouldn't be so bad if you didn't have to do it in a single trial.. but you do.
Getting 3 sacrificing during endgame with NOED is just straight up impossible and situnational. If endgame collapse has been triggered and survivors see NOED they aren't going to be attempting to save the person, unless they're a very altruistic SWF.
Getting 3 unhooks during endgame collapse is also bs and very unlikely.. but possible, though I'm not a fan of it.
The toughest one probably being to sacrifice 4 survivors in the basement, even if you manage to get 3 the last surv is gonna stay as far away as possible. Also survivors would just DC if they see someone is running a basement build.
The devs doesn't seem to really have thought some of these challenges through.. They seem to be for the "dedicated" and "hardcore" playerbase, totally screwing over casuals, like my friend who'd never be able to do most of these.
The toughest one probably being to sacrifice 4 survivors in the basement, even if you manage to get 3 the last surv is gonna stay as far away as possible. Also survivors would just DC if they see someone is running a basement build.
That's an issue with a lot of the challenges: They don't depend on you being good, they depend on everyone else being bad.
-
"Kill 3 Survivors with NOED during EGC"
Yea no. They will just start disconnecting as soon as you down the second person.
Pretty much all of the really awful challenges can be fixed by removing the "Complete this challenge in a single trial." condition.

Not everyone wants voice chat with strangers. I obviously can't speak for everyone, but I usually turn it off when I'm playing online games these days. It's just not worth it. Half the time you get someone who leaves their mic open the whole time as they listen to music in the background, argue with their mother about cleaning their room, or talk with a friend (not realizing or caring that everyone can hear them). Even if you don't, usually everything's peachy until someone starts dying, and then they turn on you and start screaming over the mic.
If I couldn't opt out, I just wouldn't play survivor anymore. And I can opt out, you're already missing the point of adding it (you have no idea if the person you're talking to can even hear you).
If you want to use it with friends, go for it, we won't stop you. But talking with friends and talking with strangers are two different things. Your friends aren't going to throw a fit, get mad at you and start throwing the match when things don't go their way.
Your friends aren't going to throw a fit, get mad at you and start throwing the match when things don't go their way.
You are a community manager. I would assume that making sure toxic people who abuse voice chat to insult other players is something that would fall under your responsibilities.
This is basically you saying that you are unable or unwilling to deal with toxicity in the community.

I did not know why i did not see it coming and was exicited for the new servers. I had never problems. Not as a killer nor as a survivor. But the game is now nearly unplayable for me.
My ping is usually around 40-50ms but man, i had to know it better. Many fps games suffer from desync. And DBD is a living nightmare for me now. I wish i could make videos to show how ridicoulus it really is.
Im pretty sure many think that the servers are "great" since your pings are now good most times, but i can tell you like, so i am sure many cable internet users, who are sensitive to this kind of problems, that they are huge.
That i miss a attack even if my whole screen is full of survivor is just one of the smaller problems. Other players are blinking or moving like they are passing rubberbands. I jump through a vault, thinking that wasnt even risky just to get suddenly hit. I grap a survivor unhooking his mate just to get the animation cancelled after a second and they are gone. And and and and. The fun completly stops here.
I heard this is a test. Does this mean i get freed of this nightmare soon, so i get the chance to play enough dbd to lose interrest before they come again or does it mean that is a test, till notes say it isnt a test anymore and permanent now?
Please tell me now so i can say my farewells to dbd, without holding my grip on the game in this unbearable situation just because i hope for the servers to disappear soon. Please give information, please.
Also everyone else in this thread with issues:
Please post your region. I have never had issues (Central Europe), which leads me to believe that the issue is more with individual servers. But without knowing your regions it's very difficult to check which servers might be causing the problems.

This would not be casual-friendly, this would completely remove the challenge.
Can you explain why you think this is an issue please?
Personally I think there are two changes that would make the battlepass system much more player-friendly without affecting the money Behaviour can make off it in a major way:
- all the content in the battlepass track is unlocked when it expires (I believe this is when the next one comes out). Players can get the cosmetics early to show off, but everyone gets everything they paid for in the end. You can still use Auric Cells to skip ahead if you don't want to wait for a certain item; for example I believe that some people would use that option even on day 1 just to have the items before anyone else.
- the ability to switch between current and old battlepass tracks. For more details see my post here: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/95577/battlepass-tracks-should-not-expire-once-bought-players-should-be-able-to-pick-one-as-active

Your post is rude. @BunnyTheHutt is making an effort to contribute to the discussion by providing a relevant similar situation. Instead of trying to attack their argument you are attempting to discredit them.
-
I don't think the problem is a lack of punishment, the main problem is that the disconnect detection mechanics are all awful and need to be changed.
If it's possible to properly detect people who disconnect a lot, why bother putting them in a low priority queue or the like when instead you could just ban them? That seems like an easier solution.
-
[ x ] Rank is worthless without rank rewards.
-
I think this idea is good, but I would prefer the ability to complete the tracks whenever you want and switching between them. That would make it more casual-friendly too, like your suggestion, but has the benefit of enabling old tracks to come back in the future.
For more details, see my post here: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/95577/battlepass-tracks-should-not-expire-once-bought-players-should-be-able-to-pick-one-as-active
Tl;dr:
- let players keep all purchased battlepass tracks
- players can pick one as active, all progress goes towards the active one
- old battlepass tracks can be sold again in the future, this lets players who didn't play the game yet when they came out to access the cosmetics and charms in it
- this makes the battlepass more casual-friendly while still allowing Behaviour to make the same amount of money or possibly even more
-
@Drybones said:
I totally agree but it probably wont happen. The track is designed to be uncompletable. If behaviour expected people to be able to finish the track then you wouldnt be able to earn back the auric cells you spent. Its designed to look promising only to frustruate you until you give up on the rewards or pay extra to get them in time.
I agree with your train of thought, which is why I described why I think it's possible to make the same amount of money or even more with this change. Do you think my assumption regarding that is wrong? If so, how much less money do you think would Behaviour make if it was implemented (roughly)?

honestly, i find the whole mindset of NOED "rewarding the killer" to be wrong.
if that were the case, the killer would have to actively do something to activate the perk - and when he does that required thing it should always activate.
but that is not the case. NOED is 100% survivor reliant and the killer cant control weather he gets it or not.
thats why imo the perk does not "reward", rather "punsh". instead of "rewarding" a killer for something, it punishes survivors for not doing something - totems.
It also punishes them for not playing around it, for example by not finishing a generator when the killer is coming directly towards them.

Indeed, and you end up playing something else... :/
Is there a way to see how many people are playing a given game on the Switch, like on Steam? It may not be that your server is dead, but the entire playbase on the Switch may be too small.

What dwight said: you have to do more than get a full-victory as if you get too many one shots you won't have enough emblem points for your chasing category and if gens get rushed (big surprise there) you won't have gatekeeper. You can use addons/offerings safely though if I remember right.
You can use whatever add-ons and offerings you want.

@justarandy said:
I mean it's not coincidence that many streamers and I by myself can call out that the killer will most likely have noed because of how BAD he plays.
If you can reliably predict whether or not the killer has NOED, then why don't you play around? For example by hiding near the exit gate and waiting for the killer to check it and leave before you attempt to open it or by cleansing the totems?
If the killer is playing badly, as you say, then you should have more than enough time to destroy the totems.

Re: this pass business.
I'm not bothered about hanging silly ornaments on my hooks etc.
I've already got sufficient skins for all the killers (except Hillbilly because he has not great skins imo, but I don't care as he's the killer I enjoy the least).
I like doing challenges/rituals and the extra bloodpoints are welcome.
There should NOT be a cut off date where the current challenges disappear and we lose the opportunity to gain whatever unlockables we had left. This really gets up my nose. We can chose a ritual from the chain and hence should be able to do whatever ritual whenever we want.
So:
Good:
- Lots of challenges
-Extra Bloodpoints
-Extra skins
Bad:
-Too much grind in too little time.
-Chain reset.
-Useless knick-knacks.
This, so much.
NOTE: This started out as a comment but I feel like it warrants its own thread. You can find it here: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/95577/battlepass-tracks-should-not-expire-once-bought-players-should-be-able-to-pick-one-as-active/
Once bought, you should be able to complete the different battlepass tracks whenever you want.
People who can't finish them on time should not have to spend even more money to get the stuff they want. When the next track releases the current one expires, and if someone hasn't finished the old one yet then that will put them behind on the next track.
I don't even think that Behaviour would lose out on money: With the current system the players might get frustrated after a while and stop buying the battlepasses altogether. If they were able to finish them whenever they wanted, at their leisure, they might keep buying them, and maybe spend money on some of their old tracks to finish them.
Example: A players has purchased the first two battlepass tracks, and not finished them. The third track releases. The player decides to mark the new track as the active one to progress on it. The player also uses Auric Cells to finish off the first battlepass track to get it out of the way. This is a much more consumer friendly because there is no fear of missing out if that player does not finish it before the next battlepass track releases. Behaviour still makes money from the sale of the three battlepass tracks and the Auric Cells used to finish the first track.
This way you could even bring back some of the old battlepass tracks that people might have missed out on, for example new players who didn't even play when that specific battlepass released. The way the system is currently set up I don't think this is possible.
By bringing back old battlepass tracks and letting players choose which track they want to progress on Behaviour can even make more money than with the current system, while at the same time players won't feel like they are missing out. It is more consumer friendly while at the same time allowing Behaviour to make more money off each individual battlepass track release because they can bring the old ones back in the future.
Example: There is another free weekend. A lot of new players try out the game. Some of them like it and want to buy it. They see the exclusive battlepass cosmetics / charms.
- Scenario 1: They realize that they can not ever get those items because they did not play when the battlepass track released. Because they can never have all the content due to being new they decide not to buy the game after all.
- Scenario 2: The old battlepass tracks are put back on sale for the weekend and the week after. The potential new players like the game, like the cosmetics they have seen and buy the game and the old battlepass tracks. Behaviour makes more money and the new players are happy.
There are two downsides that I can see:
- the ability to switch between tracks needs to be implemented and I cannot gauge the amount of work required for that so I am not going to comment on that further
- players may be upset because the battlepass does not give them true exclusives, the charms, as the other cosmetics are going to be put in the store after a while
Behaviour has decided to not make exclusive (streamer) cosmetics anymore as people were upset that they couldn't get them easily outside of something like purchasing them on eBay for large amounts of money. As the charms appear to be a violation of this new policy I feel like that this is strong support for the implementation of the ability to switch between and complete old battlepass tracks.
A thread discussing this can be find the Feedback subforum, here: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/95577/battlepass-tracks-should-not-expire-once-bought-players-should-be-able-to-pick-one-as-active/

Like bps you and dailys you have to finish for rewards. Nothing to stop you from getting a killer to chase you to a hook and pointing at it until you die. It would be the most time efficient way to continue on to your next rift. I'm sure it's going to ruin a lot of survivor games.
Killer games too.
It will also ruin progression opportunities for all other players. You can't really complete challenges if people are suiciding on hooks left and right.

It is still popular in rank 1 from my experience. Just went against a freddy that absolutely destroyed us and he still had noed. Like, why even run noed when you play that good? There are also tons of nurses and spirits that use noed, it's basically to guarantee a 4k since no one will probably have time to cleanse all 5 totems anyway.
Spirit and Nurse both are probably the worst killers for finding survivors that are not on generators, due to their lower movement speed. Against them finish the last generator when they are not on you and hide somewhere near an exit gate. Then wait for them to check the gate and leave, then open it, or wait for them to attack someone else to check for NOED. You can instead also check the totems you found but haven't cleansed to possibly disable NOED.

Yes, it is about the dedicated servers. They are totally a disaster. You basically made Nurse, Huntress, and plague hardly playable. And there are countless times in every game when the hits through the pallets/windows. Even when under 40pings, I found many time survivors/killers moving in a very lagging way, which make the process of looping/anti-looping very frustrating. I have been played DBD for two years, and this is the 1st time I seriously consider stopipng playing this ****.
Most importantly, devs, it is extremely disgraceful to force the players to play a unfinished product without noticing them to let themselves make the decision, FOR TWO TIMES!!!! I don't know why devs start the servers again this week. Considering they just did it last week, It is impossible solve all the issues found previously within such a short time. So devs, why again?
Here is some advice:
If you wanna test anything:
1). put it on the PTB and let players to decide if they wanna try it.
2). If you cannot find enough volunteers, go hire some people to do the test for you. I am sure it cost much less than the copyright of stranger things.
Devs, we are not your free labor to test your unpolished work, and FOR TWO TIMES, without notifying the players ahead. Never know another game company can be so rude and unthoughtful!
NO respect to devs anymore.
What are your region and platform?
1). put it on the PTB and let players to decide if they wanna try it.
Fun fact: The first time dedicated servers were enabled on the PTB they were so incredibly bad that they had to be disabled again within a day.

Whew, what a thread. I have a feeling that the pendulum is going to swing the other way for some people when the battle pass actually comes out. I foresee a glut of killer players, more dcs if people think they won't finish their tasks, and an increase in players trying to farm. Good luck everyone, it's going to be a bumpy ride.
Do you keep progress achieved in a game if you disconnect?
If so I can see people disconnecting not only when they think they won't make any or much progress, but the opposite. Done with a long or difficult task? Time to disconnect to switch to the next one to maximize your progression.

I bought the game on Switch and during the first couple of days, besides the bugs and stuff, things went smoothly. Now I can hardly find a game. My server is rather DEAD and I don't have the option to choose a different one so I might as well delete the game. Every other game I've played with dedicated servers lets you choose the server to log on to. Why haven't you implemented that on Switch? It's either living in a good "region" or quitting.
If server picking was enabled there is the risk that people pick servers that they have high ping on. Playing against someone who is lagging is not fun even if that person themselves does not mind the lag.
What is your region?

Yes, I know of these trap spots like Blood Lodges window for example. I know exactly what you're talking about, and i'll edit the post if it puts your worries to rest.
Those trap spots have not been fixed in years, and BHVR is very aware of their existence. Also, I've never heard from anyone being banned for those trap spots in the first place.
Please do not downplay you spreading potential misinformation that could get people banned as just "[my] worries". You should not feel the need to clarify your original post because of one person but rather because of the aforementioned possibility of it getting people banned.
Thank you for editing the original post in question.

Definitely not too late.
Observing other games shows this could be ten times worse, and i wouldn't blame anyone for wanting to have that fear.
Just cause some feel it already escalated doesn't mean we're at rock bottom.
To clarify, I did not intend to imply that the current state is the absolute worst it can be. My goal was to point out that an escalation regarding anti-consumer mechanics has already happened and is in progress.
Secondly, I don't feel like that just because other games and publishers have pushed the boundaries means that Behaviour has to follow suit. Especially now that they are self-published. There is no big publisher forcing them to implement those mechanics, they are doing this on their own.

Would an @MandyTalk @Peanits or @Rizzo90 help put that suspicion to rest?
If it is ok or not, they'll let us know. But I'm sure it is since its been there for years...
To eliminate ambiguity:
I am talking about specifically and deliberately using spots where the traps sink into the ground. Not about players who put down traps and just happen to be putting them in one of the spots but players who intentionally put them there because it gives them an advantage.
As you do not have a source backing up your original claim I politely request that you edit your post to include that there is no current confirmation whether or not it is allowed. People may see you have "Trusted" status and think it is official policy when it is not. This is dangerous because they might get banned if you turn out to be wrong.

I'm not one of them, but i figure ONE of the reasons could probably also be a fear of escalation.
Y'know, if this performs extremely well, they might expand it.
Too late for that, that has already happened.
From DLC that was directly purchasable (80's Suitcase, Bloodstained Sack) to ingame store with anti-consumer premium currency that you cannot purchase in the denominations you want (Auric Cells) to an even more anti-consumer battlepass system.
