Not that i have complaints, but its already 9 am and im still rank 3, why?
The rank reset should be every month on the 13th, no? Am I missing something, or its just a bug?
It resets, but it's based on BHVR's time, and they are in Canada in the Eastern Standard Time timezone. Which means that as of this typing, it is merely 3am on the 13th. Reset is a few more hours away, yet.

Making character a certain race, gender, sexuality, etc just to be diverse lead to bland characters that are usual stereotypes
And as Exhibit A, I give you Overwatch, which did precisely that purely for the sake of being diverse (which was a huge marketing thing with them in 2016 and while Michael Chu was still their writer before leaving Blizzard earlier this year).

I'm 41, and I sympathize with you more than you know. I'm at the age where when I get home from work and finish putting my kid to bed, I just want to load up a game to relax and have fun. Competitive games have a way of turning you into a toxic player, so I try to actively avoid that, but DBD is a special case in that there's no other game like it. I have fun playing it, but sadly it's one of the most toxic games out there, and getting steamrolled over and over again by people far more experienced than myself doesn't exactly make for an entertaining few hours.
As easy as it is to say that I could care less about not ranking up or getting few blood points, the truth is I'd be lying. I do want to succeed and I do want to be able to hold my own, but the original MMR ensured that that was never going to happen. I'd love nothing more than to load up a match of DBD and not care about the outcome, but when that outcome is so heavily predictable, the game loses all it's luster.
Hopefully the devs can fix the shortcomings of the new MMR.
I guess for me, even though I haven't touched Competitive Mode in two years, I still get my "competitive" fix with the Friends & Family team in Overwatch. Even though we usually just play Mystery Heroes or Quick Play Classic (neither of which uses an MMR since it is in the "Arcade" section), we will still "play to win" with the heroes we picked, or were given in the case of Mystery Heroes.
Now don't get me wrong. Naturally I want to escape as a survivor or kill 'em all as a killer, but the entire asymmetrical nature of DbD just doesn't have me taking it even a little seriously like I would an even-team match-up of 6v6 in Overwatch. By the same token, I walked out due to the new MMR. Going against extremely new players, or people with thousands of hours more than me, wasn't fun no matter how you cut it. Then getting hit with multiple Error 111's on top of too-long killer queues sealed the deal.
I'm waiting until Error 111 (and its sibling, 112) are fixed. Plus, I might check out cross-play to see how the killer queues are. I know console survivors tend to wait long for matches over there, so maybe the abundance of console survivors will alleviate some of the PC killer queues.
But I bought DbD back in 2018 to play as my favorite killers. The icons of Myers, Leatherface, and Freddy, with a little mix of Amanda and (as of last year) Ghostface. If cross-play doesn't alleviate the killer queues for me, I'm very likely done because that is the last Hail Mary for queues. I just don't enjoy survivor as much as Killer in DbD (whereas over in F13, I enjoyed counselor more than Jason).
-
At this point, just leave the rank-as-matchmaker in, and let the pulled MMR system die and rot. I honestly do not trust them in the slightest to make an MMR system in DbD work now. This isn't Overwatch or even Paladins, there are too many variables in DbD. They should just let it go.

I'm not that competitive - I just like to play.
I'm honestly not in a bad mood about it. Frustrated as I'm useless to my team and dead fast anyway. So it's like should I just de-pip to get to a level I should be at? and I'm I a bad teammate for doing it? or..
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1532735#Comment_1532735
Exactly enjoyable... and technically my teammates loss a teammate anyway. Just a minutes sooner really lol
It feels wrong to do that though. So I'm humming about it and I wondered if others felt the same atm.
I'm not competitive at all anymore. I went that route in Overwatch during its first two years with ranked mode. And it made me such a toxic gamer before all was said and done, that I said to hell with that. I've been gaming since I was a kid in the 80s (I'm 47) and I never got competitive like that in game before Overwatch.
I just played DbD for fun and bloodpoints, just for the Slasher fantasy. Survivors escape? Whatever. They do in movies, too. But if I am survivor, which is always SoloQ, and I have teammates not doing gens and not even coming to unhook me, it's a suicide on first hook. As I said, I play to have fun. And that kind of team ain't fun.
As for rank, I'll never hit any high ranks because I do not even remotely try to.

@LeaderoftheSaints said:
Sad thing is they would be legendary. So no mix matching
Well, naturally. If Blumhouse did license their version to BHVR, they would expect it to only appear in the game as their version, not "kind of" their version due to mix-matching.
-
I only played survivor on a regular basis because my Killer queue times were 10 minutes at a minimum. After a month of playing survivor, and trying to be a killer again still resulting in waiting-and-waiting-and-waiting, I decided to play neither. I did SoloQ as survivor. After a month of that, I'd rather be castrated by a chainsaw.
Maybe when cross-play comes killer queues might get better. We'll see.

Yeah, the tropes got old pretty fast. Luckily those aren’t as big of problems today. I’ll check out Behind the Mask, seems kinda like a different take on the Scream idea.
Yeah, same concept as Scream: breakdown the Slasher tropes. I honestly have a love/hate relationship, bordering on the dislike, with how Scream handled it, despite my love of Craven's works. I much preferred the way Behind the Mask did it.

I’m only used to it being a central plot point or flashback (A Quiet Place and IT are good examples). Stuff like F13 6 and Chucky conditioned me that kids were basically invincible in slashers lol. Stephen King is a crafty one. Still trying to get ahold of the Dark Tower series.
I think that's because during the golden age of slashers it all became an imitation game between one franchise and the next, so they all stuck with the sexually active teenagers and the Final Girl/Guy.
Freddy at least diverged from that, as did the Jamie Lloyd Halloweens. But too many kept repeating the same trope to the point that we finally got the take on it used in Behind the Mask: The Rise of Lesie Vernon. Which is an absolutely great film, by the way.
-
@SCP_FOR_DBD But it's interesting that you reacted to it the way you did. There's an old writing trope in horror, and King even discussed it back in the 80s, that if you want to quickly get your audience invested: endanger or hurt a kid. And for King, it's something he's used to great result. Look at Salem's Lot, IT, and Pet Sematary, to name a few.

Oh, I remember it now. Admittedly, it's been over a year since I last saw Halloween 2018. I plan to watch it again after I do my Jamie Lloyd timeline watch-through again.
Sadly, I've viewed so many horror films throughout my life (I am 47, and started at 5 years old), and write horror as part of my living, that the kid getting killed didn't even register with me.
(Note: That's for film or a novel. In real life, it would screw me up badly.)

At the beginning when Michael escapes the bus a young boy and his dad go to see if everyones all right. After the kid accidentally shoots Michaels doctor he runs to hide in the car. Then Michael straight up ices the kid, They even gave him the raspy voice puberty kids get. I expected him to knock the kid out or something, that put me on edge for the rest of the movie.
Damn it. I did forget a kill! Thanks.

Yeah, I was honestly so shocked when Michael straight up murdered the kid, music was phenomenal. Most people think the OG is an untouchable masterpiece, and while I think it was good I really don’t see the hype. Most horror fans get real upset when I say I liked 2018 more.
Am I forgetting a kill? I know it wasn't the black kid being babysat because he ran out of the house and left the sitter's arriving boyfriend to die. Are we talking about Oscar? Because like Allyson he was in high school, which has always been within Michael's target zone since the original Halloween where they were all also in high school. Even his very first kill, Judith, was only a teenager.

I am a huge fan of the John Carpenter Halloween from 1978. I was five years old when it came out, and have always been a Myers fan. My forum icon isn't because I main him in DbD (killer queues are absolute ######### in this game, so I don't bother anymore).
And I loved the 2018 film. It was finally the sequel the original deserved.

Well, the current license is obviously from the original holders. For the 2018 stuff, they would likely have to license again, this time from Blumhouse for the new mask design, and also from Jamie Lee Curtis for her current likeness. Not that the current Laurie in DbD looks anything like a young Jamie Lee to begin with, though.

I would be so down. What I’m about to say is probably gonna offend someone but I liked the new one more than the original. I didn’t even know they were making another movie lol.
It's a trilogy. Halloween (2018), Halloween Kills (2020, now delayed to 2021), Halloween Ends (2021, now delayed to 2022).
The original actors for Lindsey (the girl she was baby sitting with Tommy) and Leigh Brackett (the original Sheriff whose daughter, Annie, was killed), from the 1978 film are back in Halloween Kills as their original characters, and the team has already stated that the citizens of Haddonfield start hunting down Myers en masse and it has the highest body count of any Halloween.
Teaser Trailer released last month.

I can like something at it's core, and still recognize awful/half-assed decisions. The two aren't mutually exclusive. It's not malicious. I don't want, or intend to do them harm. It's called tough love. I love the game, I'm just pissed off they can't seem to do what's right for the game and it's health.
With BHVR - this is a company that even it's own partners, the Fog Whisperers, actively state "they don't listen to anyone, including us". They pump out DLC after DLC, cosmetic after cosmetic, battle pass after battle pass, and yet there's issues and bugs that have been in the game for years. White Knight all you want, but after 4 years, people need to stop pulling punches.
As far as the Fog Whisperers . . . look, if they haven't realized by now that they are nothing more than free marketing for BHVR, and other than that BHVR doesn't give a damn about them, then I don't know what to say.
-
I'd wait 6-12 months to be honest. BHVR screwed it up at launch, and it's unlikely their first several attempts to fix it will work out, either.

This is why this game should never be treated competitively, no matter how we feel about it when we play. Its 4 v 1, it is never intended to be a competition to give it so much thought to the point where we forget that its main goal is to simply enjly ourselves. I' m curious to know what is your real life job and if you have ANY sort of real life responsabilities, seeing that you have all this free time at your disposal to debate the state of a videogame . I love dead by daylight as much as all of you, and i spend my free time playing it to the points where , in the past 2 years i accumulated 2100 hours on steam. BUT to actually waste my time and thoughts on theories and hypotheses on a virtual reality, which at the end of the day this game really is, seems utterly pointless, childish , and it gives the feeling that you don't have any real life priorities. I'm sorry i come of as harsh/rude , i am a dead by daylight fan , but not to the point where i become so obsessed that i must analize every aspect of it as if its something essential to my existance. And i apologise if my comment seems unfair . I just don't see the point of analizing a videogame so much. I dunno....i guess thats my 2 cents on things. Maybe when everyone here will get to a certain age, have kids of their own and priorities, they will understand what i meen when i say that "analizing a videogame, reguardless if you love it or not, is a childish thing to do"
If you're referring to ScottJund, he's a full-time streamer and content creator. So, video games are his income.

I'm like you and just lurk the forums hoping that any second behaviour will get their ######### together because I like the game a lot but it's hard to enjoy it currently.
Yep. I wouldn't "mind" playing again, but at this stage I just can't excuse myself spending time in the game. Sad really.
I'll just get my PvP fix in Overwatch. Then Avengers launches next month, Cyberpunk 2077 in November, and (likely) Overwatch 2 in the Spring. I imagine that one will be somewhere around May 2021 since Overwatch originally launched in May 2016 and Blizzard has a thing for franchise dates. So, plenty on the horizon to keep me gaming. Just not with BHVR.

lol @ anyone who thinks this game has a tutorial. You clowns don't know what a tutorial actually is. A tutorial teaches you how to play a game and why you might want to do X or Y. Not just how to move and the very basic goal of "do gens" or "don't let them do gens." This game has one of the worst tutorials in the history of gaming. Not the worst, but damn is it up there.
You will NOT learn how to play this game at a level where you can do very well on your own. And to an extent that's fine, learning all the advanced techs and whatnot usually isn't tutorialized even in good games. But in this game you don't even throw down a goddamn pallet in the tutorial.
You need to give new players enough information to succeed in a way that will remain useful and relevant as they play. The tutorial teaches you habits completely counter to succeeding outside of rank 20 matches. The tooltips are full of status effects you have to check a wiki to understand (maybe there's a place to look up status effects in-game? If so I haven't seen it, which is damning unto itself) and even things like keys use outdated nonsensical terms like "black locks." ######### JUST SAY IT OPENS THE HATCH.
Defend it all you like, I don't know why anyone would, it's a piss poor effort to onboard new players, so it's not going to make the game more popular or successful. And taken with the hits to the player count over MMR and the endless list of bugs, I don't think any of us want the game to drop in popularity. They need to address these things. Joe McBadass figuring out window tech on his own is great and all, but for the vast majority of people, we're not even introduced to the concept of looping. LOOPING. I mean good lord. I don't even think the tutorial teaches you that you can heal others without a medkit. It's been a while since I've done it, but there's just this huge collection of information you're missing from the get-go.
And it's not like there's a practice mode where you can go to learn these on your own. That's the dumbest part of all. You're thrown straight into ranked matchmaking, with constant pressure to survive or kill, so learning is much more difficult than it should be. This is less frustrating if you know people who play and can do KYF, but in that case they'll be giving you the information anyway. The very least they could do is pop up little tutorial boxes when something happens for your first few games. Or like a tips-and-tricks section after a match that goes over how well you did (lol, as if they have the telemetry to accurately determine how well we do) and facts about the killer you faced.
There's so much they could do to encourage new players to dig deeper.
You saved me a post. Well said.
It's also quite telling that DbD Mobile has a bots mode to practice in, and yet the main game is looking more and more like it's being run by the junior varsity dev team by comparison.

(5% more speed when flashlight is on you? Really?) And yes I know they changed that one, but the fact it even made it into the game is a huge joke.
After the way Mettle of Man launched, I'm no longer surprised by the crap that makes it into the game. 🤣

They say they won't because people with different languages play their game 🙄, but that's what dedicated servers are for. Voice Chat.
Sure proximity chat wouldn't be as good as SWF, but it would be cool and still fit the games aesthetic and atmosphere.
Yeah, the language barrier is a lazy excuse. Hey, people with different languages play Overwatch, especially if you're on EU servers, and it has voice chat.

I just picked up the game myself last week. Yeah, I do not like the DLC model either. Cosmetic shop is fine, but only because I don't care about stuff like that. If I did though, I could see being a bit annoyed.
If I want to buy the game today, I'd have to pay about $20 for the base game - if I want to unlock the rest of the killers/survivors, I'll need to pay another $50 or so. I'm sorry, but no - $70 to access all the content for a 4 year old game of middling popularity...? Never gonna happen.
And every three months, BHVR just adds to the pile of DLCs. Though it seems that lately, even the new perks aren't that great.
-
Well, I have to say I agree with your points. At this point in time, I've pretty much moved on myself. I say "pretty much" because I obviously still lurk at the forums, hoping beyond any reasonable hope that BHVR will fix and polish the game. But I can't say that I am physically logging in anymore. I did play for two days under the new MMR. But of course, BHVR screwed that implementation up as well, as admitted by two Mods here and at the Steam Dbd Forums. Then I got hit with Error 111 several times, and uninstalled it again.
Might I reinstall it and come back to playing down the line? It's possible. But BHVR needs to get a lot of work done, first. And I honestly, at this point, have zero confidence that they actually will.

That would be insane. It would also help the survivors who want to get better in the game because they could see how they played from the killer's perspective. The same actually applies to killers. But I don't know if they could handle the massive data they would have to record. Seems very unrealistic to me, but I have no clue if it could work.
It's actually one of my favorite features in Overwatch. Not only can I go back- either from a first-person, third-person, or overhead view- and see where I went wrong in a match, where my positioning needs to be improved, et cetera, but myself and the others can review our six-stack team losses and see where weaknesses were (we're a Friends & Family team, so it isn't a toxic level of review or anything).
We can even go into first or third person view for anyone on the enemy team, too. One night we were in Quick Play Classic and an enemy McCree was a Master ranked player. I went back and watched the game play from his POV and picked up some tips.
If I remember Jeff Kaplan's interviews from around the time Replays went live, he stated that it took a lot of resources to do, even though the foundation had already been done for the Overwatch League.

Isnt Friday the 13. also from BHVR?
No. It's published my Gun Media and was programmed by Illfonic. Nowadays, it is skeleton maintained (i.e. a bug patch every six months) by a small team called Black Tower. Illfonic moved on and made Predator: Hunting Grounds.
The only other asymmetrical game that BHVR has done was Deathgarden. It launched, failed, had some changes made, launched again with a slightly new title (Deathgarden: Blood Harvest), utterly failed again, and was shutdown.
One of the lead Devs over there even stated openly that Deathgarden was being propped up by profits from Dead by Daylight. So, it didn't shock me that as Deathgarden continued to bleed money, DbD started getting even more rapid cosmetic releases and then a Battle Pass.

I don't really remember did Last Year failed because it was crap or way too much survivor sided?
Still I'm astonished that a game who was expecting to live two years at best now has trouble due to his spaghetti code but in the meanwhile confident companies does reliable games who fails. Karma is a Nancy main.
I'm not sure why Last Year failed, as I never played it. I refused to buy it when it was a Discord Store Exclusive because I never trusted the Discord Store (and I was correct to not trust it, as it shutdown and access to all its games with it). But when they released it on Steam within the past year, it now only peaks at around 30-150 players at best.
I did still play F13 and could get matches very quickly over there, or just relax in Offline mode, but for the past month they have been slammed by hackers that are basically shutting down their servers and giving everyone a Fatal Error Code. They patch it, and within a day or two the hackers hit again. They just did their second patch against the Hackers a couple days ago, and already the hackers are back and Fatal Error stops matches from being made.

Because in all honesty, it has zero competition. If a decent studio would come along and make a new asymmetrical horror game that didn't fall flat on its ass like Last Year and Friday the 13th did, BHVR would be in a heap of Deathgarden level of trouble.

And then, if it doesn’t meet expectations, I’ll give some constructive feedback if I don’t see it already posted and wait for their tweets to go into affect.
It might need a little more time than that. Mandy_Talk and Gay Myers have already stated here and at the DbD Steam Forums today that the MMR is not working as intended, and the Dev team is looking into why it isn't working right.
So, at this point, we're on the BHVR timeline for any fixes, and probably fixes for those fixes, before we can even begin to determine if MMR is a net positive for DbD.

We wanted a solution to the long queue times. Not at the expense of screwing over new players and leaving us with skittle matchmaking - time played needs to be factored in.
They will (hopefully) fix it - the issue is that they seem to have a pattern with these sort of things.
Even when I tried the MMR system before giving up, in large part due to also managing to get the Error 111 after a few matches, my queue times had not changed in the slightest. Killer queue was still a lobby simulator.

The least the developers could do is acknowledge that there is a problem with the new MMR, rather than remain silent. It doesn't need to be some big grandiose announcement of what they're working on, etc. Just a simple acknowledgement that there's a problem, and they're working to rectify it.
Right now both killers and survivors of different skill ranges aren't having fun, and when people aren't having fun, they stop playing and move onto greener pastures.
Mandy Talk and Gay Myers have admitted in other threads today that MMR is not functioning as they intended it, the Dev team is looking into it as a priority, but unfortunately it's all they can say right now. I.e. no ETA on any fixes.
Gay Myers also replied to a thread at the DbD Steam Forums saying the same thing as they did here.
So, they've finally admitted it. As to when it will be fixed, if it is ever truly fixed? Well, this is BHVR, so who the hell knows.

The entire MMR system they tried to build is obviously an out-of-season April Fool's joke.

Error 111 has screwed me out of a bunch of games and it SUCKS SO MUCH!
Yep. Right now I'm just doing a playthrough of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel for the first time (not liking this one too much, might not finish) and chilling in the Overwatch Summer Event. Already got the Tracer skin for 9-wins this week. Waiting for the next skin to go live on Tuesday.
MMR is enough of a dice roll, but now we have to roll the dice on getting our bloodpoints? Yeah, I think not. 😂

Its like watching something gets destroyed and you just can't look away, no matter how horrible it is.
That's honestly the only reason I'm at the forums and even watching some of the top-end Streamers. I'm not even playing right now because of the MMR wreck on top of Error 111. But watching this train wreck is mesmerizing.

lmao
man it must be a fun time to be the killer
I think I'm gonna put the horizon port on hold and enjoy some day time killer queue and then swap back to horizon or survivor in a few hours before the non potato swf hit the queues
I'd recommend on holding off on the Horizon PC port anyway. Reviews are not kind to it right now. Apparently, it is having major performance issues.

They're making the most of the broken MMR system to farm some Adept Achievements that'd be quite hard to get otherwise. That's what they're using their lemons for, making use of what they are given.
Well, it's probably the only thing this current system is good for. Other than giving me more time in other games. 😂

Certain things not working as intended.. This is very lightly put lol. The whole system is a trash fire
Pretty much. At this point, I'm just chilling in the Overwatch summer event and finally playing through Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel (and man, is this one weak) until they finally fix both the MMR and the Error 111. I figure I have time . . . .

What is this issue?
There is a sync error and it does not award the earned BP at the end of the match.

You should start running meme builds and play while drinking heavily. That should spice things up.
Playing drunk while still drinking is the only way to play this game anymore.
