Bugged out? Or they changed it back and didn’t tell us?

Either one is usually true with game studios.

Probably is the case along with the current level of the archives encouraging survivors to play in SWF because of "Item of Interest"(Escape with an item of very rare(Purple) rarity or higher). Most players don't have a lot of purples to throw around so they join friends to complete it.

Also it's only this way since the only other way to complete the survivor path is to have Ace(Not the most popular survivor), so the game is SWF going all out as far as the eye can see right now.

Yeah, tell me about it. I just play for the hell of it, but going against so many obvious SWFs, whether they're good or not, is getting asinine. Most are still on comms, and it's making playing my favorite stealth killers damned near pointless.

I loathe these challenges. I hated them in Paladins and what they did to the quality of matches, and I hate them as much here. They were actually the main contributing factor to why I finally uninstalled Paladins.

  • Might have been an SWF. There was a change a while back where it is supposed match the killer based on the highest SWF rank, but that bugged out (also) months ago and stopped doing that. So, it probably matched you based on their lowest member, yet again.

  • I think it'll take a while. Right now, the new killer really isn't worth playing as currently built (yes, I played on PTB today), and it'll take the ol' RNG time to get those perks on the wanted killers.

And, let's not forget, this is the community that complains endlessly about NOED, when all they've ever had to do was totems to prevent it from ever triggering. But, they don't. To this day, they don't.

So, even after killers get Blight's perks, survivors are still going to resist doing the totems. They'll be even more complaint threads about the perks before they finally figure out: do totems.

  • @Quol said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1551263#Comment_1551263

Guess they should cleanse the totem if they think it's a problem. There are far more powerful hex effects than the occasional aura, to say this hex is the one that needs a nerf is kinda weird.

I think that's the point of what they're releasing, it gives killers an option (albeit with a gamble) of builds to try to force survivors to do totems, which BHVR has said they consider to be secondary objectives when the feature was request ad nauseam.

Survivors generally don't want to totems, they want to do generators as quickly as possible to escape. Which I get, but now some builds will be about doing the totems . . . or don't complain about the Hex effects.

It's the same song and dance about NOED. The perk is easy to shutdown from ever triggering: do the friggin totems. But, nope.

That still remains in line with the devs philosophy with totems & Hexes.

They cant be removed without survivors spending time finding and cleansing them. It’s one of the key fundamental ways the game can be stalled for killers. Something which they often overlook by getting too focused on the loss of a hex instead.

Undying + any other Hex isn’t simply about keeping a hex in the game longer, it’s about creating further stall in the game.

Well, as people asked for a secondary objective, BHVR stated that they consider totems to be such. Since survivors didn't want to do the secondary objective and just do generators, BHVR now gave killers build options to force it.

  • @ill_Boston_lli said:

This is thte second ptb i have not gotten to try the killer because the queues literally take hours to get a match.

Theres gotta be something that can be done to ensure quick killer queues. Maybe open the ptb to all platforms. if you unlocked crossplay you should be able to put the ptb out on all plats right?

just a suggestion maybe it is possible but this is so silly im stuck playing survivor and i want to try the killer out.

Even Blizzard, a much larger financial company, stated they won't ever add consoles to PTB. The main reasons stated are that each PTB patch would still have to go through the Microsoft and Sony approval process, that means even patches that tweaked what is already on the PTB. And then there is a charge from Microsoft and Sony for each patch. So, putting consoles on the PTB just becomes too much backend hassle.

Now, Blizzard doesn't do Crossplay, but Hi-Rez does for Paladins and Realm Royale, and they stated the same reasons.

If you wonder why there are very few devs who come to the forum, this is why. :) I'm just used to this from Facebook political "arguments". XD

I did notice your smiley face in the reply, so this is not directed at you, but meant as a general opinion.

I'd spent 14 years in the gaming industry before I retired from it, and I've been a published author for close to 30 years. In that span in both industries, I have encountered an untold number of trolls and a-holes. As I'd stated to many fellow game designers in the past at conventions, a thicker skin is required. It's the entertainment industry of the internet driven 21st century, trolls and a-holes abound. Hiding from them is not the solution. Getting over it, is.

Again, not directed at you because you appear and post here, and I honestly respect that. But to the industry as a whole, a lot of Devs need to stop being so fragile.

you think gens are an interesting objective ?? try Last year , that's a game with good objectives , dbd is just boring , either hold M1 for 80 secs or loop the killer around the same pallet for 5 times , then switch to another one and so on ... dbd is getting boring and stale really fast

I thought Last Year did a lot of things right, it's just unfortunate for the game that the people behind it are entirely out of their depth, which pretty much killed it.

You aren't wrong about DbD getting stale and boring. I don't have the thousands of hours some of you do, and I'm already bored. The gameplay loop has very little actual variety. The whole looping and mindgaming aspect gets old fast.

I guess you are interested in getting bullied by 4 survivors then. I dont understand why do i have a chainsaw in this game and survivors keep laughing at me. I quit playing billy, keep taking care of the people you have left, the casuals. Because veterans already left.

Yeah, we don't get killed by survivors, we get bullied and t-bagged and laughed at.

Because yeah, we see that in slasher films all the time.

No, what we see is Michael Myers getting his rear beat by Laurie to the point of losing fingers and being trapped in a burning house. Never mind 17-year-old Laurie stabbing him in the neck with a needle, in the eye with the wire hanger, and in the chest with his own friggin' knife in the original Halloween. We see Leatherface lose an arm in the remake. We' see Freddy get beat down in the end by teenagers several times. Jason has literally gotten beaten down by his supposed victims in multiple films. Heck, he got killed by a kid, a young Tommy Jarvis, in Part 4.

Oh, and what did Sydney do to Ghostface multiple times?

Sorry, but on this one, F13: The Game did the genre a lot better than they did over here in DbD.

Yeah, DbD has slashers, and dark maps, and licensed icons, but it's too much like a bad episode of the Benny Hill Show in actual play.

I hope, I haven't heard anything about it though. So it seems unlikely.

Gun Media already said there would never again be new content. Outside of the bug patches every six months or so that Black Tower does for them, the main programmers, Illfonic, long since moved on when the game was halted and did Predator: Hunting Grounds. They also stated that the license ends in a couple of years and that is that. I think they said 2023.

That said, I still play F13 on occasion. I hadn't played any asymmetrical game except a very odd match of DbD in about a year, but am probably going to reinstall F13 at some point in the near future. When I just want to slaughter stuff and not worry about PvP and its crap, I'll either fire-up F13 for bots mode, DbD Mobile for bots, or Borderlands 2.

  • @BongRips4Wraith said:

In 2017 I did nothing but play DBD all day on both sides.

Game was so unbalanced but there was something about it that kept me coming back to play both sides. Killer 4Ks were extremely satisfying, none of the killers were unfun (except a god nurse), and Borrowed Time came out early 2017 to make up for the fact that a LOT more killers camped back then. I could literally wake up on Saturday and play until early morning sunday with my friends, and switching it up with killer breaks in between. Twitch community was thriving since release and the game was small enough that you saw the same faces often, but not too often.

I took long breaks but always came back. I can safely say, I do not have that same feeling anymore. Even after long breaks I get bored of DBD after 2 games, it still has its really good moments but it is nowhere near as fun as it was back in 2017. I keep coming back and trying it out to see if they can replicate that feeling but its clear they want to go for "balance" which doesn't exist in a game like this.

It happens. I've been playing Overwatch since 2016. Nowdays, even after breaks, I can't seem to play more than a day or two before I am over it. And I don't mean for hours a day or two, I mean maybe two or three matches a night. Is it because the game got bad? No. I'm just bored with it after four years.

I'll be logging in on Tuesday with the Friends & Family group to get the 9-wins for the Orisa summer event exclusive skin (final skin for this damned event). But after those 9-wins, I probably won't touch it again except here and there and will just keep playing DbD. And they'll be back in WoW except for the occasional night of Overwatch once every couple of weeks.

See, due to killer queues on PC, especially as a low ranked killer, I barely played DbD since buying it in 2018. Survivor just doesn't hold me as a main game play. Now with cross-play, I can actually get killer matches.

  • I could care less what goes on in the community. I keep in-game chat permanently closed. I don't care what survivors find toxic. I don't care what killers find toxic. I don't care about the us vs them mentality on the forums. I don't care about my rank.

I play DbD for one reason only: the slasher horror fantasy. Whether it's hunting or running, that's it for me. It's just a chill, casual game. Win some, lose some.

  • I honestly don't care. I've long accepted that it's part of the game and isn't going anywhere, and I'm not going to stress over it.

  • @BloodyNights said:

Since we have a lot more threads about cross play being some negative thing, I thought I'd just throw a positive thread out. I'm enjoying cross play, It means more players, and I'm able to play with friends on different platforms. Win/win for me. Thanks BHVR.

    Agreed.

This is EXACTLY what it is. As a killer running up on a survivor they will 360 and there is no way (at least most of the time) to visually track the character. It wasn’t as bad when the game first hit PS4.

imagine playing mortal kombat and your opponents attacks never visualize on your screen. How can you react to a 15 frame kick when are viewing a slide show. The survivors just disappear from in front.

I wrote in a post yesterday how pc killers will be the ones to actually understand because you will see so many console survivors trying to 360 you. You guys can actually track it. I’m glad some pc killers are writing on here about their experiences so that hopefully bhvr will do something

I was mentioning that yesterday. As a PC Killer, average at best, I'm loving cross-play because now I can actually get matches. I've had some cross-platform players give me good runs for my money. Others were fairly bad, but the same is also true of survivors I've faced who are also on PC.

That said, far too many cross-platform survivors tried to 360 me in matches. Yeah, it doesn't work the same against a PC killer, and gifted me with a lot of free hits.

  • @Nobsyde said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/181909/console-survivors-please-at-least-try-the-crossplay

I haven't read any replies, I just want to leave my thoughts as a console player which right now usually play killer but spent a loooot of hours playing survivors as well:

there is no downsides in crossplay, game play wise, not for killer, not for survivors. The reason is that this is an asymmetrical game and survivors have a decent frame rate on console, meaning that

    1. having a mouse and keyboard is really useful only for the killers - but since they won't face other killers that advantage is completely lost on the inherent game design
    2. console killers will struggle to face 360s in the same exact way

In fact I will possibly be unpopular when I say that console killers will have an easier time against pc survivors, and let me elaborate on this:

console killers are used to face every possible juke available in the game, because console survivors learned to exploit our awful framerate to their advantage. They don't even have to know that this is the case, they just know that moving quickly left and right and/or 360ing is more often than not absolutely enough to literally disappear from the killer POV. This is something that PC survivors are not usually doing because it just doesn't work when the killer has a decent frame rate.

So what did console killer learn, to face this kind of survivors? Looping, mind-gaming and pathing - which are the same things that PC survivors learned to try and escape a killer. And it all comes down to this: if PC survivors are not trying to juke you at every corner (and, from what I saw today, that's exactly what is not happening), we can track them much, much more easily.

Console survivors on the other hand will need to (finally) learn how to properly optimise the tiles instead of relying on senseless jukes, which again is absolutely possible without mouse and keyboard and with console frame rate.

I'm confident devs won't go back on their decision this time.

TL;DR - from a console player POV, cross play is good and we're gonna kick your ass, dirty PC peasants 😎🥕

Regarding your TLDR: Bring it on. I love fun matches!

(I had a Killer match last night with three fellow PC players and one survivor with the globe icon. The cross-platform survivor gave me the most trouble that time, and even escaped at the end. The three fellow PC players fed the entity.)

  • From a tech standpoint, yes. From a skill standpoint? It's a hollow argument. Heck, in one match last night my killer faced three PC survivors and one with a globe next to their name. The one cross-platform survivor gave me the most trouble and even managed to escape. The three fellow PC players all died.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1536574#Comment_1536574

Because the framerate on those maps is complete ass and it got even worse with the last mid-chapter. Almost every other map runs fine.

Ah, gotcha. Two of my adult sons have DbD on Xbox but haven't played it in a year or more. Hoping to get them together online for some survivor play at some point. Right now, we all play Overwatch together in a Friends & Family 6-stack team.

  • Or, you know, I can just continue to play for fun and hope my console opponents also have fun so too many of them don't disable cross-play and I have to sit in lobby simulator again as a PC killer.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1536553#Comment_1536553

Probably because they know how bad it is for console killers.

It's something they should have addressed before implementing crossplay. Now just have to wait and see if they will after. Probably not.

Now you have me curious: Why are Leary's and Hawkins bad for console killers?

You also mentioned Ormond, but that map is a pain anywhere. For any killer against PC survivors, good luck applying decent pressure on that large map without playing very specific killers or going against inexperienced survivors.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

Queue times are long and PC killers know to offer Lery's/Hawkins/Ormond (Ormond to a lesser extent) when they see console players in their lobby. Fun.

Well, that's interesting, because four of my PC killer matches against survivors with the symbols next to their names had the survivors putting in Lery's (one match) and Hawkins (three matches).

It didn't end well for them. Though I am now officially sick of seeing Hawkins.

  • Even on PC my survivor soloQ lobbies have gotten longer.

My killer lobbies, though, are fast.

  • I had much longer queues on PC as a solo survivor.

    Near instant as killer, though.

Those are Xbox or PS4 players... my 1st crossplay match as a PC player, all 3 survivors just tried to take hits for the 1st person found.. all 3 got downed, I ran the killer saved them all and then they all proceeded to hide the rest of the match whenever someone got found; letting them die on first hook.

I'm PC. Pretty much every survivor tonight with a cross-platform icon next to their name tried to 360 me in the matches. I guess that works against console killers? Resulted in a lot of free hits for me.

Other than that, had fun matches. Won some and lost some.

  • Yeah, see, I'll be 48 in December, so outside of hitting the forums for the two PvP games I play, here and Overwatch, I don't go where gamers are anymore, so definitely no Reddit and the like.

I've been an author for 30 years, but I also spent close to 14 of those years in the game industry, both video game and table-top (as far as video games, nothing big or anything). I'm a gamer and have been since the early 80s, but after those 14 years I came to hate interacting with a majority of gamers. So, I guess I just stopped seeing that idiot war still going on.

I played against a lot of console survivors tonight. I won some and lost some. The only real issue I saw was that a lot liked to 360. I assume that works against console killers, but it only gave me a lot of free hits.

  • @helix43 said:

To the PC killers, if you're going to play huntress to try and make console survivors lives miserable, please have the skills to back it up. A key board mouse can only do so much.

    Sincerely,

A survivor who has gone against 7 pc huntresses back to back with terrible aim.

I suck at huntress. I do plan to learn her, though, which has nothing to do with cross-play, and sometimes I get stuck with a daily for her.

If you faced so many back to back, it might have been due to a daily. Which means those players might not even play her regularly. Heck, I have a daily for Hag to do, and I rarely play her outside of those.

Hmmm. Not saying you're wrong or anything, so don't misinterpret this, but I honestly thought it was a thing of the past. I haven't heard it in years. Then again, outside of specific gaming forums, like here and Overwatch, I don't seek out video gamers too much. So, I never go to places like Reddit and such.

What I will say, though, is that when I was facing cross-platform survivors today (I am PC) too many of them kept trying to 360 me. That must be a thing that works on console, but all it did was basically give me free hits.

  • @Ramxenoc445 Interesting. I'm on PC and my ping has been low all night tonight. I wonder what's causing it to spike upward for consoles.

  • @knell said:

On PS4 (US-East), we've always had severe lack of killers (especially in high ranks), which caused survivor queue to almost always be long (except possibly during Blood Hunt events and when new killers come out).

But from what I remember, PC community had supposedly the opposite problem, and had excess amount of killers, which was why the crossplay option, despite its own problems, seemed appealing for all parties.

So its a bit disappointing that the reality seems to be that the current crossplay option hasn't helped the survivor queue time much, if at all. I wonder if the PC's killer numbers were exaggerated on the forums, or if PC population actually isn't that big comparative to PS4's population to make that much of a difference.

It's a good question. Now, for my experience, I used to have 10 minute killer queues easily on PC. Been that way since I bought the game in 2018. Now, I never hit the high ranks because I don't play DbD as my main game, but I bought it to play Myers, Freddy, and the other famous horror icons and really couldn't with those queue times.

Survivor doesn't appeal to me nearly as much, but I played enough to get Claudette to 40 and Bill to 15 or so. Queues were always fast, with the longest being around three minutes.

As of cross-play today, my killer queues have been near instant at all the times I tested it: morming, mid-afternoon, and this evening. So, I got to play killer (finally) at different times today.

Survivor, though, has been longer. It took around 5 minutes earlier today, and I gave up at around 7 minutes tonight (I was just testing the lobby time, so didn't stick it out).

Due to the killer queues since I bought the game in 2018, I haven't played much. If the killer queues stay this way, or at least near this level, DbD will get a lot more of my play time.

  • As someone who prefers, by a longshot, to play killer, my PC killer queues are a dream now. Pretty much instant any time of day today. Hopefully that lasts.

PC survivor was longer than before when I tested it. I gave-up at the 7 minute mark. I assume it's because with cross-play, a lot of people are now playing with their friends on other platforms. So, a lot more SWFs now.

That said, I've also had no issue facing the assumed SWFs. Won some and lost some, as is expected in any PvP game. And I'm sure some nights will be more losses than wins. Again, the nature of the beast. Heck, I've even had nights in Overwatch where I play 7-9 matches and win zero. A couple times, I went on a multi-day losing streak. And yes, they suck. 😂

Sorry to hear my crossplay on xbox one has been decent so far.

Was expecting alot more nurses and cheaters but out of 8 games i havent had either.

I have had alot of players just dieing first hook. Like they try and kobe and if they fail they just let go. Pretty frustrating.

To be honest, Nurse doesn't seem to be played much anymore even on PC. Her era was ended not only by the base kit changes, but also by all the bugs that have continued to plague her unaddressed since the changes. At high ranks, you'll probably see more Spirit than you will ever care to, though.

No it was added a while back when EGC was introduced. Most killers wait at hatch and when they see the survivor they close the hatch in front of their face to kill them. On the other hand, survivors sometimes wait at exit gates until the hatch gets closed so they can start powering up the exit gates. Hope that clarifies some things!

Gotcha, thanks. Never had them open a gate during EGC before, guess I was lucky in finding them before then. But I don't play DbD regularly either (therefore, obviously low ranks and why I never post about balance this or that at the forums), so probably just not often enough to have had it happen.

  • @HolyLadyGaga said:

When you close the hatch all the gens get instantly powered up, allowing the last survivor to open the exit gate.

Was it always like that? Because this was the first time that ever happened to me. Guess I found the last guy soon enough in past games.

That doesn't necessarily mean they got the licence renegotiated, since you still need other platforms for it.

Correct. I've worked on a lot of licensing in the past and it is extremely possible for the them to include Freddy like that via this cross-play system since he would still not be available for play or purchase by Switch players. It really only depends on how strictly worded the license was at the time of signing.

By the way, we were talking yesterday or so in a thread. I reinstalled today to test the cross-play. Absolutely love it. I'm finally able to play my horror icons again.

I have to agree. Two of my adult children play on Xbox at their own homes, and now we can play together if we want to. Not to mention, my PC killer lobbies have become extremely short, which means that now I can relax and finally play some Myers, Freddy, Leatherface, Amanda, and Ghostface again. The reason I bought DbD in the first place: the horror icon fantasy.

And to the console people: I'm not a great player by any stretch, so I look forward to you guys running me around and even escaping. Some of us on PC really do play just to have some relaxing fun.

Where on Earth were you reading any of this?? I've never seen any kind of trash talk like that on these forums. At most I've seen people saying they're concerned that console players will have to go against the occasional top-tier Nurse or Huntress on PC, which by virtue of the physical limitations of controllers vs a mouse, will be vastly more deadly than anything seen on console.

I doubt he's reading it anywhere. The whole PC Master Race vs Console Plebs is basically nothing more than a meme nowadays. He just wants to start drama.

  • We all have different goals with DbD. As you said, yours is playing a balanced game of DbD. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. For me, I just want to be able to play Myers, Freddy, Leatherface, Amanda, and Ghostface. I bought DbD just for the horror icon fantasy they offered in those DLCs. Whether I get a 4k or 0k, I don't really care, as long as I get some BP for the bloodweb and for that sense of progression. I also do not, and never have, cared about rank. DbD is an occasional side game for me.

So, for me, the fast PC killer queues that cross-play gave me today is why I will keep it activated.

"we feel bad for console players because we are going to wreck them" I've heard so many stuff about that lol, but how am I a rank 1 killer main and haven't lost a game yet, I kicked PC players ass Soo y'all still saying that we are trash

Not all of us said that, by the way. I'm a very casual player of DbD as it isn't my main game by any stretch of the human imagination. I just wanted faster queues so I could play Myers and Freddy and the other horror icons again, instead of only having Survivor as an option if I actually wanted to get matches.

On that front today, cross-play has done its job. Let the console survivors run my killer around and escape. I'm fine with that. But at least I get to play killer again, now.
