I normally stay around purple ranks, I've just been playing so its evened out. I've had my fair share of fun with Overwatches custom games. The only other game we play competitively other than DBD is R6.
I honestly never played DbD much before crossplay. I bought the game for Myers, Freddy, and Leatherface, the three Icons I grew-up on in the 80s, and could never get Killer matches unless I played very late at night. Well, I have a kid to get to school, normally, and then start my writing work day by 10am at the latest, so I prefer bed no later than midnight. So, playing late at night just to play Killer wasn't in the cards.
I bought the game June 2018 on a Steam sale along with the DLCs at the time. I have just under 200 hours logged in those two years due to those queues. By comparison, I have close to 1,000 hours logged into Overwatch because I can always get fast queues there, albeit I started Overwatch on launch day in 2016.
I've studied the game, but am just now finally able to play it when I want thanks to crossplay.

Its really a shame that queue times are so bad the actual games aren't worth it. My friends are very competitive, so KWF and SWF are entirely different sessions for us.
Ah, see, we all just play DbD very casually. I hit green ranks since I came back the day crossplay launched and was Rank 20 because I hadn't played in so long. I've dropped back to Yellow ranks messing around with Deathslinger, and don't care.
About the only game we go into with a clear desire to 'win" is Overwatch in the six-stack full team. And even then, since it's just Quick Play with nothing on the line as far as rank and such, if we lose we lose.
I just hate SoloQ because a majority of the time I am left to die on first hook, so never get to actually "play" a match.

I was playing SWF the other day, A DS snuck up behind me and got the hit. I yelled so hard I fell out of my seat.
I really only do SWF in KYF thanks to crossplay. I mostly SoloQ in public matches and that is atrocious. We don't bother doing SWF with public matches because, since crossplay, the survivor queue times in the late evening when everyone is available are a lobby simulator game. SoloQ, I get survivor matches at that time within 2-3 minutes, but the experience of playing those matches doesn't make it worth it.
So, I just screw around as Killer in public matches. Right now I am seeing if like Deathslinger. He's still Level 1 because I don't put BP into a killer unless I enjoy how they play, or the perks are worth it (and his aren't for me and my builds at this time).
I'm also still undecided if I like Spirit, so she's still sitting at level 1. I got her perks off the shrine over time, anyway. Ditto for Pyramid Head being level 1. Love Oni, though.

Pretty much.
But stealth is boring.
Well, there's more to the game than just running Benny Hill loops.

I actually decided to watch his recent video, and he actually says Deathslinger has counterplay he just doesnt find it fun, so I dont see why it'd lead to so many threads of no counterplay if that were the case.
I didn't watch the video. But I noticed when the inquisition against Deathslinger started, people kept linking that video. And as usual, it's just snowballed to parroting from there.

Here we go again - SWF was planned from the beginning. But the Devs only had time to put either KYF or SWF into the game on Release so they went for SWF. They said it during one of the early Livestreams.
It is simply wrong to think that Developers would plan a Multiplayer Onlinegame without the intention in mind to have friends play together.
Also, the feature was added shortly after the release, you dont create something like that in a few weeks from scratch.
But hey, try to de-justify SWF by repeating this over and over again that the Devs were not planning to include it, as wrong as it can be.
SWF was always planned, but they also said way back in the beginning that they would never add voice to the game because it was designed to be played without it and not having all those known quantities that come with it.
Apparently, they never heard of Discord when they planned for SWF, which shows a severe lack of planning, foresight, and basic game design common sense.

Billy got his nerf and the dust has not even settled and now we have a ton of deathslinger nerf threads already?
What should this?
Imo, every nerf of a killer, or a survivor abilitie makes the game more boring.
Do some people really prefer a dangerous free match, where the biggest problem are the skill checks on a gen?
I watching this pattern already more as a year in this forums and I still have never get how nerfs have make the game better.
Guys who cry for nerfs, rob theirself for good and exciting matches imo.
Maybe I am alone with this but to nerf everything is the wrong way. This makes a game boring.
And before someone comes with this up... No I am not a deathslinger main. I have not even bought the dlc.
I have this thread write to wake maybe the one or other guy up.
Apparently, Scott Jund made a video about Deathslinger, so now the Cult of Streaming has pitchforks out. And then it spreads like a virus.

Rank doesn't say anything about the skill level, that's why the now use MMR instead of ranks for matchmaking. Just doing 1 - 2 gens and getting chased by the killer for 30 seconds is already enough to pipe as survivor so it takes absolutely no skill to reach red ranks. And as I said its not their fault if these players are not really good.
Well, right now only rank is used for matchmaking. They turned off MMR around the time crossplay released because it was broken and not working as intended. Right now they're trying to fix it, but no ETA on when MMR will come back. We're currently using the same ranked matchmaking system that DbD always used before the first attempt at MMR.
-
Rank matchmaking hasn't worked since around the time Stranger Things released in September 2019, and created very rainbow colored or very lopsided matches. They never made an attempt to fix it, I can only assume, because they knew MMR was on its way and expected it to stay once launched.
But MMR bombed and didn't work, they pulled it, and switched back to the ranked matchmaker. So, all we have now is the original, broken matchmaker slapped back into place. And all we can hope is that MMR Round Two actually works when relaunched, or round and round we go in yet another Dev loop.

So I doubt they like to give auric cells instead so Iri shards and everyone happy.
They already give cells in the battlepass. Yeah, they can be used to buy a cosmetic instead of the next pass, but for players who complete each pass and get the next, they probably haven't made a battlepass sale beyond the very first one from them.
Don't get me wrong. I agree that BP is lackluster as a rank reward. But from a business standpoint, it's precisely what I expected.

No map pressure true. But no good survivors will block line of sight and waste pallets. That's IT. Dodge?! Youre funny if you have a good deathslinger there is no dodge because he can quickscope faster then you can move out the way because of hitboxes. And he has free zoning. He has one of the STRONGEST 1v1 in the game. He id almost uncounterable, he has no cool down for aiming and can shoot instantly. You cant juke a deathslinger he just missed. I used to wreck deathslinger. Until I met good ones and I can say one thing, getting quickscoped while dodging left and right is ANNOYING AND POINTLESS and dont let me forget when they suck and know it they will just get closer and closer then m1 you anyways. I mean say what you will but the only way to beat him is to gen rush him. If you get looped as a deathslinger youre doing something wrong.
Things are a little different now than the posts in this thread would indicate. He was only released for 12 days when this thread started, and many killer players were still learning how to play him.
Five months later now, and we see threads of survivors complaining about him.
-
Yep. I pretty much stop playing around then. I'll go watch a movie, or maybe read (I read a lot), or if the Friends & Family team is getting on Overwatch hop over there for an hour.
If I am video gaming (and I don't every night), 11 or 11:30 is my personal cut off. For DbD, though, it's around 10pm for the reason stated in the OP.

I heard that ranks will give a reward(from King) on each 13th of a month. Well, if it is true, why is there mmr? They removed ranks because it was not showing skill and was showing playtime. Those people who are low rank but good and people who are high rank but trash are going to get rewards they don't deserve, making people play the game 24/7.
Getting people to play more and more is always part of the model. Units sold isn't the only metric used when they're seeking all these big licenses. They're also showing player engagement: average number of players per month and average hours of engagement per player.
So, of course they want people to be logged in more. If the Battlepass system grind wasn't the first clue into that, rank rewards should make it clear.
@Primalux135 said:
Thats for encourage people to play but indeed bloodpoints aren't enough for me. They should give iri shards
And I'm not shocked that they don't give Shards, since Shards are already given for account leveling (i.e. time played) and can be used to by-pass paying cash for DLC content. I didn't imagine they would double-dip into that bypass system.

"can we get a kill your teammate by vote option or something?"
Do you have any idea how a 3 man SWF could easily exploit this if they are a bunch of pricks who only care about themselves? This in itself would create an awful change for Solo's
Exactly. I mean, it isn't like history has shown that when there is a vote-to-kick option, asshats will abuse it to death.

Gen rushing isn't a thing. That is a survivors only objective. Killers are supposed to stop that. Killers need some sort of pressure or else it'd be a cake walk. That's why there's perks and full on builds dedicated to stopping gen progression. If gen rushing is an issue for a killer than they need to run those perks and practice gen patrolling. Maybe pick a killer like legion who's good at stalling gens.
And that's a map design issue. It shouldn't require certain Perk builds or specific killers to accomplish with any type of consistency.
-
Welcome to PvP games. I've had bad survivors here, healers in Overwatch that think they're only DPS, laners in MOBAs that don't push and soak, and so forth.
You play with randoms in a PvP game, you roll the dice (which is why I only Friends & Family six-stack in Overwatch anymore).

Mathcmaking has always been a problem and with MMR suspended I am not sure what is happening now, maybe just nothing. Everyone might get anyone else. I play more survivor than killer and seem to get killers in their teens that get run over, or level 1 red rank killer just sweating my team of me (8) and 3 20's. I have idea why it is so hard to get people together with similar skills.
Well, this is what the rank-as-matchmaker has been doing since September 2019 when Stranger Things released until they first tried the MMR. They never seemed to care to fix it, and I assume it was because they knew MMR was coming this year. But then MMR was a bust, needed to be removed for more work, and the old system they never cared to fix for 10 months was slapped back in place.

How come they disabled killer switching in lobbies since MMR has been canned? I thought the whole point of disabling killer switching in lobbies was for MMR. That's the main reason why I thought my matches were MMR matches.
Peanits answered that in a post, but when I last searched for it for another thread two days ago it was already on page 18 of the forums. So, forgive me for not repeating that search, here.
Anyway, it's because MMR is coming back as soon as they fix it and in the meantime they are continuing to gather individual Killer information. That's the main reason. The other reason is because the way it was coded, he said, removing it would require a change in code and a patch to the client. And since MMR is coming back, they don't see any sense in going through all that work to remove it only to put it back later.

Probably just luck. My games have either been "stomp or stomped." There really hasn't been an in-between.
It's the same issue I suffered for too long in Overwatch Quick Play, and that mode does use a hidden MMR system. So, I'm on the fence about how good BHVR can ultimately make their system. Especially when Blizzard has a lot more resources and experience, and a majority of their matches are still stomp or be stomped.

Yup. The slower gen thing is a good idea, as it would slow the game down early on but allow the Survivors the ability to speed things up. I mentioned it in another thread, but it got drowned out because it's a NoED thread.
I didn't even know you'd mentioned it. I just came up with it on the fly when typing (but I did do 14 years in the game industry, so my brain still tends to think that way sometimes, even though I retired from it in 2017).

@InsidiousSmartfaceLF said:
I know the release of MMR has been controversial and that it hasn't been perfect for everybody, but for me personally I am not only getting better queue times but also playing against survivors and killers whose ranks and skill levels are more likely to actually match mine. Before MMR I would constantly go against red rank survivors even when I was in green and purple ranks, now it looks like people are playing against players at their skill level. Since I don't think you get positive feedback nearly as much as negative feedback, I just wanted to say good job so far.
Hate to break it to you, but MMR was turned off around the 12th or 13th. They even had an in-game news alert about it. For over a week now, since crossplay launched, we've been back to the previous rank-as-matchmaker that we've always had.
No word on when MMR will make a return, as it wasn't working right and they turned it off to fix it.
So, you aren't getting MMR matches.
-
@StibbityStabbity said:
Imagine this happens to a group of new players by happenstance. The potential to punish innocent players is there.
Also, gen rushing itself is a symptom of "We have one job". Survivors need more to do other than rush gens.
That's on BHVR. As it stands, unless the Killer is running a Hex perk, or the survivors feel they have a reason to fear a NOED, outside of bloodpoints they have absolutely zero reason to do totems. And totems are what BHVR stated that they consider to be a secondary objective when the feature was requested ad nauseam.
That's BHVR's design flaw. Survivors feel no need to do totems except in very specific circumstances. If they consider totems to already be a secondary objective, then they should have put some mechanical design into that. Even if was something as stupid as slower gen progression per each totem not yet cleansed.
But they did nothing to reinforce totems as a secondary objective. Which was either poor design, lazy design, or now claiming them as a secondary objective that should be completed is a BS response instead of saying that they either don't have the manpower or desire to actually design, create, and add a secondary objective.

That is utterly pathetic. Wow.
Well, good news is that one of the most guilty Streamers from the original program no longer streams DbD so isn't a Fog Whisperer anymore. But that was one of the big DbD Streamers at the time. I discovered while watching one of Matthieu Cote's personal streams one night that they were also a Moderator for his streaming channel. And that was the one that we called out the most that seemed to result in fallout for some of those involved.
I can't speak of the current Fog Whisperers, as I know the roster changed a few months ago when they announced it, as I no longer watch DbD streams unless it is the rare time I tune-in to Otz. If it isn't him, I don't waste my time.
-
If it's a Fog Whisperer, don't mention the name. That seems to really piss off BHVR. Trust me, I know. When the program first started, back in 2018 or so, several of us were calling out the admitted de-ranking they were doing on-air as well as other scummy tactics. Although I avoided a ban, several posters also involved did not.
So, if it's a Fog Whisperer, forget it.

I would honestly even be in favor of changing how the hook-states work and everything else if it meant that games could be longer, more enjoyable and less stressful for both sides. And a change as huge as that could be catastrophic but maybe more dramatic changes could be worth looking into on an experimental PTB
Because I really wish BHVR would use their PTB as more then just a DLC testing board, I want to see them integrate an experimental section to their game where the playerbase can get together and check it out. It could be a fantastic way to get the community engaged and interested
Blizzard did just that with Overwatch: added an Experimental Card play section where changes are put instead of the Test Server (which is now used only for huge tests like new heroes, although no more of them until OW2), and it allows all the platforms in Overwatch to test the proposed changes and provide feedback.
DbD needs to implement something like that.
-
They can bring it back when they fix it. I don't care how long it takes. Fix it and stop half-assing stuff.

Oh for Christ's sake . . . seriously? That type of design path never turns out well. I just went through that in Overwatch a couple months ago due to Echo, a busted Damage role Hero that was originally supposed to be a Support Hero, but went through a ton of development changes in-process into the abomination she is now.

You're blowing the perks way out of proportion.
- Dragon's Grip is easy to counter by simply waiting 30 seconds, which only takes 7 seconds of active repairing to make up for, plus 20 seconds to make up for pop. A good killer will almost never kick a generator without pop, so you can assume that any regressing generators are unsafe for roughly 40 seconds after a survivor is hooked(allowing 10 seconds for the killer to beeline to a gen and kick it).
- Blood Favor is countered the same way as literally any other anti-loop mechanic: drop the pallet early. If you DO get hit, just run to the next loop to have a functioning pallet, it has a fairly lengthy cooldown.
- Undying's Aura Reading isn't actually that good unless you are actively cleansing the totem, as you can be long gone by the time the killer reaches you, assuming they're even looking in your direction when it procs.
Exactly. At first as Killer, I was like: Ooooh, do some Hex Perk combos, slow things down . . .
But it's still a gamble. A huge gamble. And I'm not sure giving up my slowdown and tracking perks is worth the Hex Perk gamble, even with these new perks.
I could see me running it every once in a while. But as a consistent build? I'm doubting it.
Some people are acting like Hex Builds are going to suddenly be run as a core Meta by every Killer out there, and that isn't going to happen.

It's usually easy to tell based on the username that it's not console.
I disagree with op though I haven't noticed much difference between console/pc players. Except huntresses, I haven't gone against a pc huntress yet who isn't a) bad and b) refuses to go more than 16m from a hooked survivor - I expected the opposite tbh
Let me honest with you, unless you're going against Tru3, Ohtofu, Otz, and the like, don't believe all the absolute hype of high tier PC killer play.
Are there extremely skilled players on PC? Sure. Are they the majority? No. Just like in any other PvP game. Like in most PvP games, too many believe they're better than they are.
Me? I'm average on a good day. Below average otherwise.
Unless the FPS screwed you guys, I had no doubt there would be back and forth matches between PC and the consoles. Especially for console survivors. I've seen a lot of small streamers who play PC survivor with a controller, and prefer controller interface for that role. Whereas they prefer m+kb for killer due to needing faster turns to hit juking survivors.

If DbD wait until the next-gen console to actually fix the FPS, I certainly won't be buying DbD there if I did upgrade. It'd feel like a complete slap to the face to those of us who supported the game on current gen
Exactly. Not to mention, there's a little thing called a Pandemic going on and, at least here in the U.S., it's a total train wreck with a lot of people still out of work and unable to find new employement. Which means a lack of disposable income for the price of these new generation consoles.

@Kilmeran agree, but it's becoming more common. Seeing it with other games too. And ime many streamers of any games often have very biased entrenched views that are out of touch with the community.
Oh tell me about the biased views. I did watch Twitch. I'm not just someone saying what I am with never giving Twitch a shot. I did for over a year as both a curiosity and research as an author for a book I eventually plan to write, where a part of the 2042 setting is streaming being completely mainstream and much more integrated into everyday entertainment. So, I plugged into the Streamer community pretty decently, from the small guys to the big ones like Tim and DisRespect. Had several off-stream conversations with them about the industry, as well.
That said, be it DbD, Overwatch, or what have you, the big boys are most definitely biased in many ways. And the whole thing, as well as seeing enough of the "trolling for entertainment," just turned me off of sticking with watching Twitch after my research was done. Not to mention, if I need to watch something for tips or tricks or general knowledge, there are more then enough YouTube videos where I can skip the fluff and get to what I need to view.

While true, not everyone can afford one in a couple of months. I play on PC, but everyone else I can now play with are on PS4 or Xbox. Two of them are having to move to a new house within the next few months due to the owner of where they live selling it (and that is not a small expense), and the other works but has kids, a mortgage, et cetera and can't just drop hundreds for a new-gen console at release. Especially with kids and family to all buy for for Xmas in a few months.
They need to optimize the current consoles, not just rely on everyone affording the new generation at their launch.

Time to remove dc penality again.
Probably will once the hackers figure this version out. I mean, this is the third attempt by BHVR. Usually, they need quite a few more before they get it right. π

No, they never enabled it in the first place. The previous ptb was bugged on it's own, not because of the hit validation system. At that time, they said that they'll test it on live soon after the ptb. Now we are at the next PTB and we didn't hear anything new about it.
Can't have ######### in the fog I guess. It would be nice if one of the MANY lead community managers, community managers, acm, mods and whatnot would actually say something. With so many people in charge of "managing the community" one would expect their communication would be top notch, but it's worse than ever. In 2016-2017, with no community managers and a smaller team the dev team felt really connected with the community. Makes me wonder what are all these people doing since the only one who posts on the forum from time to time is @Peanits .
In 2016-2017 the game was new and they were still trying to make their money, especially with Starbreeze still involved.
Four-plus years later, and it appears they made their money, so now just take the typical game studio approach of: we'll talk to you when and if we feel like it, and only then.

I have always been against the use of 2+ slowdowns such as Corrupt/Ruin Pop. I find this combo to be overkill especially in public matches. At the top % of games I would understand killers having the need to use it but most games and killers does not. Using these perk combos also encourages bad play because killers can rely on their perks to win games.
Just saying I am a killer main who does not use slowdowns. I use tracking/chase perks and rely on slugging for pressure.
And that's your playstyle. For others, it's stacking the slowdowns. For me, it's tracking perks mixed with slowdown.
Unless I'm just in an A-hole mood, then it's Freddy with every slowdown possible. If I'm really feeling like an a-hole, it's Freddy with every slowdown available and an ebony mori. Luckily, either of those situations are extremely rare for me to play. Except for my first match when I play tonight. I have a daily ritual to Mori someone as Freddy for a free 60k BP, so guess what's being played?
But so what? The game allows all of those things. To each their own.
