In my opinion I wouldn't expect the devs to work on consoles. They have made it obvious that they cater more to PC players. I could have swore console players outnumbered PC players but I could be wrong. I expect that they will never optimize for consoles. They will just give excuses or the same old "we are working on it". To me it seems they are purposely procrastinating. That is why like I said in previous posts that they need PTB on consoles as well since PC problems will be different from console problems.
Altogether the consoles do indeed outnumber PCrs, and PlayStation was closing in on PC all by themselves. For that reason alone you'd figure consoles would move up in proiroty some.
I've seen it elsewhere in this forum the theory that the devs were coasting on Xbox1 and PS4 to get to the newer gen machines. But Covid and the components/availability issues combined to streach the lives of the proir gen ones and still is. Plus recent patches have dropped performance on those newer consoles as well.
They seem to have quite the predicament on their hands. Their largest playerbase is stuck on the older machines they cannot or will not properly support any more (something like 80-85%). We are all feeling the burn badly now, and are starting to organize and rise up some in a common voice. The performance drop on PC recently just made it all worse for them too.
All the tinder needs now is that spark to ignite, just like during the colorblind episode. I wouldn't be surprised if it was actually Camcom at this point that lights it.

SWF DCing is making games easier on me.
I'll admit that made me chuckle. I'm not getting that many dc's but I'm a terrible rank 14 killer at best.
Out of respect to Pulsar and the question put to you, do you have any additional comments about the performance of DBD right now for all platforms? And in particular on the consoles now and the past few years?

Its tunneling when i was able to down someone at the exit gates but i am not able to pick them up because they keep tbagging me on top of them?
No I agree any stupid stuff within an open gate needs to stop. I wouldn't mind an Entity sweeper in there that pulls survs out if they're in the gate area for a set amount of time, and not healing. The teabagging bs I also cannot stand.

all im saying is that body blocking should be more limited. examples of what should not to be able to happen are
- blocking the hook. as in standing underneath the hook so the killer can't hook.
- blocking the killer from picking up a survivor. in some scenarios it is difficult to pick up survivors if others are on top of them.
those 2 changes are quality changes that would allow for better game play.
what could happen is
- body blocking on the way to the hook. nothing wrong about this.
- body blocking the killer to stop their movement. (the survs should be a little more slippery and not brick walls).
these are nice changes that dont change ,much
No way. Type 1 as you describe is a surv giving up health states to try and get a wiggle out off. These are free hits and pressure even if they get off the shoulder, and should be punished by the killer.
Type two as you describe is absolutely necessary. Countless times I've put myself directly across a killer's path to forcibly break up a blatant tunnel, enough times to have gotten four different messages from killers saying "Stop interfering with my tunneling" and the like.
They're all valid tactics that require no changes imo.

They should be more transparent on what is happening behind the scenes. It really feels that they have issues way more important to deal with than what is happening in consoles. And when you read the last patch notes, these issues are kinda meh tier :/
Does Bhvr do their own porting on consoles or are third party game developers involved?
You bring up a very good question. I assumed the devs did everything in-house including the ports to console.
@MandyTalk I know these last few weeks have been, er.... interesting for the mods here, but do you know or find out who handled the porting of DBD to the consoles & who oversees/monitors the non-pc side of things.

I didn't think it possible. I really didn't. But today's patch worsened game performance that already was worsened by last week's update that itself had been worsened by the RE chapter coming out.

Ps5 and Series X runs perfectly fine and smooth for me so I'm guessing it's either a case by case basis or last gen consoles. BHVR was a little too optimistic as to how consoles could handle all the upgraded things they have been trying to do.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2319830#Comment_2319830
I doubt they would ever do this since the costs for a couple of weeks ptb to sony and microsoft would dent their wallets.
The new gen machines have been having occasional problems running the game as well, just not as rampant as the proir gen ones.
Check out Pulsar's giant 65+ page thread for those who have related their game performance issues on all platforms, many with video proof included.
These issues affect us all now, and it's worsening saldy.

Clearly PTB's need to be implemented on console. But when this will be, I'll never know.
I feel like a bit of a prick because while I can play it just fine, there are plenty of others that can't even play the game due to freezes and lag.
If there's one thing I want for this anniversary event, it's for everyone to enjoy it.
Sadly that isn't happening.
Appreciate the sentiments! Including the various consoles, or giving them their own PTB, ain't likely to happen. It's mainly due to the game files being changed for the Steam PTB version each run, and whenever you change game files Sony and Microsoft and Nintendo all individually have to certify them.
This can take 3-5 business days typically, but for instance Trickster came out a week late solely because one of those didn't certify it in time. Unlike Steam which takes like hours or even minutes.

If anything this should be an eye opener for people to upgrade to a pc instead of a ps5 , you can upgrade most PCs but if you try and do the same to a console the maker will ban you from playing online after it's been modified, the ps5 I've heard runs this game well but years down the line as technology upgrades even it will be out of date while a pc can always upgrade as it goes and stay with the times in most aspects
Remember there's no Cross Progression for Xbox or PlayStation, nor is it coming. So in addition to the cost of said awesome gaming PC, we'd have to rebuy the game, all the dlc, any wanted cosmetics, oh and the best part regrind everything again from scratch.
Who with thousands of hours into DBD and whatever $$ spent already would be willing to go through all that again. You know the grind of this game.
Abandoning the consoles ain't a real answer either. They still list the proir gen machines as capable of running their game. Perhaps they should update that list? And eat the legal & financial hits that would bring? I cant see them doing that either.
-
@Lord_Tony said:
it seems trying to make the game work on switch and last gen consoles is really ######### over us steam players.
You bring up an interesting point. I assumed optimization fixes would benefit all platforms, is that not true? Is making something smoother on an Xbox possibly detrimental to a PC? We can't have one platform fix hurting another, that'd be a never ending vicious cycle of misery.
Ok what would you suggest they do? Altogether the consoles are the larger playerbase now, and something like 80-85% of those on Xbox or PS are still on the proir gen machines. Cost and availability will likely keep us stuck there for who knows how long, as does lack of Cross Progression.
What can they do?
-
I agree it is hard to hold out much hope right now. The one sliver of a saving grace from today's update was the direct attention given to our Switch cousins. They've forever been given the short end of the stick, and it's nice to effort thrown their way.
Perhaps this is the first decent step towards a better game performance for us all.
Perhaps...

At his current state, Nemesis' zombies are a very minimal help. Granted that these zombies make up about half of his kit, the fact that zombies get MAYBE 1 or 2 hits each match (which is a generous guess) when used correctly, half of his kit super weak. I think that not only does the zombie AI need to be patched up, but should include either better stats or just a 3rd zombie.
What do you all think?
Rumor has it one of Nemmy's ultra rares was to add a third zombie, but that it was scrapped due to game performance issues. With the current state of DBD I don't think it could handle that third zom zom very well.

Every Killer match I play stutters and locks for the first 2 minutes, and then I can play the rest of it fine. But it happens in every match. Before this recent patch I was running 90fps @ 1440p on ultra. Have to drop it to High for a stable framerate now, but I still get the stutters on killer. Very frustrating.
At least y'all PCrs have that option to lower the graphics. We consolers are locked in Ultra. My frames struggle to 30 and can dip into the teens on indoor maps. Our Switch cousins have it even worse, and all that was before RE came out.

Has anyone else on PC been having weird issues since the new patch?
The game has crashed for me once now plus theres weird lag spikes from time to time.
Ive also noticed my cpu is choking on the game at 37% of cpu usage, which isnt normal. Ive tried reducing the graphics to low but it doesn't seem to matter.
I have a pretty decent gaming pc so idk
This game should be a piece of cake...
Yeah there's been many many threads made about how the RE patch has hurt game performance across all platforms, in particular the consoles. The new map was disabled a few hours after coming out, and still is down outside of custom matches. Reports of rampant lag spikes, lots of game crashes so bad they disabled the dc penalties, even a few overheats happening.
And yes they said they're investigating.
-
A new twist. For years now the game's menu has been a lagfest, in particular the bloodweb. When leveling Jill today into the 40's the web would hang once the last spot was taken. None of the left hand icons would work when clicked on, can't leave the web page, not even tapping "b" to back out.
The only way I got out of the web was to click on the Archive. The autosave kicked in as it loaded the rift, and backing out of that brought me back to the web as the next level of the web loads. Rinse and repeat.
Never ever had this happen before. Anyone else experiencing this?

Round four of uploading clips. The first two clips I am not surprised by at this point. The game behaves like this at a constant. What bamboozled me was the third survivor clip. I lagged ten feet forward into the killer only for him to miss me. dead hard lagged the game further. I don't have much more to say. Welcome to the console experience
Goodness gracious those are pretty terrible. Painful to watch, had to have been worse to play through.

My Xbox1x was built in 2018 and touted as the strongest of the proir gen consoles.
And it has lots of trouble digesting this game. Just this game. Plus it got even worse after the RE patch came out.
Back in March 2019 they set a goal of 60fps minimum for all platforms. Not a peep since. If it ain't coming, tell us and let us go, and eat whatever legal stuff that admission carries with it. Same with the older consoles in general. Admit they cannot handle the game anymore as they make changes, update the list of what can handle it properly, and again eat the legal stuff for doing so.
And yes I know that is exactly why they won't toss us away, the contract stuff for a live & updating game. So they need us to quietly just drop off and go away.
I bet the next game they make will be PC only and stay there...

I get I can turn off crossplay, but it’s not a complaint, more of an experience I’d like to share. Anyone know if there’s a reason why, or if they experience the same?
With the last patch somewhat fixing Nemmy a lil on PC I think more of those players went back to killing. Also there has never been a huge portion of consolers playing killer anyway, mostly for game performance reasons, so most play survivor.
Plus as someone mentioned above console is the larger playerbase now.

I am running the game on the PS4 pro on 1080p, not sure how that compares to the console you're referencing but it's very smooth for me.
I'm on an Xbox1x supposedly the strongest of the proir gen consoles. Every time I would teleport there's a half second delay before I could swing, no matter the spamming of the button. It's actually worse if I connect and am using Sloppy, because that combo freezes me for a second or two, more than enough time for the filthy surv to scamper off.
I dunno what that 108p thingy is. All I have is my xbox, controller, tv, and sometimes a headset. Luckily my tv had one HDMI or I'd been screwed long ago.
-
I tried Hagatha long ago on my Xbox, and the lag delay when I would teleport to a trap prevented me from landing a hit unless the surv must stood there for some reason. Without that insta hit survs gain way too much distance on her slow short azz.

Yes. I understand some consolers have issues on their systems but that doesn't change my stance any.
We're well beyond just some consolers now, the problem is quite wide spread. Be thankful you are able to play the game fairly smoothly.
Here is a link to I think the largest thread on here ever. It began with a few consolers combining to relate their performance experiences, and grew to include many struggling PCrs as well.

This is a rant.
Recently, it's been getting more and more difficult to enjoy this game and to look over the glaring issues. The Console version of DBD is an absolute nightmare when it comes to optimization and trying to play the game in a similar way to PC.
I've reached my wits ends with the game constantly freezing and never getting above 25 FPS. How in the ######### am I supposed to counter a 360 if I am getting less than HALF of the frames I should be getting, I'm being denied visual information.
Have some videos demonstrating my point, if you have any of your own, please share them. Maybe we can get an answer out of BHVR about what happened to the Optimization we were promised if we make a big enough fuss.

BHVR still hasn't responded to this, and considering the abysmal release state of Resident Evil, they clearly don't care about the Console aspect of the game.
I've still got one or two more ideas, so hopefully they work out.
It isn't to change your stance, but to give a broader prospective. And keep in mind the consoles altogether are the larger playerbase now.

I'm against a game health update because the game is passable for me. I've been playing games long enough to know that if I "finish" a game, and there's a long time in between content releases, there's a good chance I won't come back... even if the game is good.

You still need experience and game sense.
And grind 2 win maybe somewhat true. But then again.. it’s not that hard to get 9K shards and grind also means you gain experience and play the game.
i think it’s a Good thing that the 3 strongest killers are original (Nurse, Spirit, Blight) with one being even base game. And with enough skill you can get consistent wins with any killer.
Too bad Nurse and Blight are much less effective & harder to control in console, and hardly seen. Spirit is only one very strong no matter the platform.
-
I would love for them to do so, but i know they will not deviate from a chapter each quarter for any reason, so sadly a dedicated health patch will never happen.
-
Up until the RE patch came out I did several killer runs almost daily, doing my very unskilled part. But since then the increased lag and countless missed hits on top of the regular performance issues have made playing as a console killer just the drizzlin shyts.
So the little I would contribute to the killer pool is gone now, and I doubt I'm the only one in the same boat right now.

yes, they used to do that with releases a long time ago, PC players got things faster for obvious reasons
Imagine the backlash of they went through and did re-enable that map, weeks before they could for console. It would be a pr nightmare they just don't need right now, especially with consolers outnumbering PCrs now.
For like two years now they do things for all platforms all at the same time. I don't see them deviating from that.
