It does help there are people in the SSD thread who have switched and have the same results, the Xbox comes with a hybrid ssd which isn't really an SSD at all, it's a step up from a basic HDD but it's nowhere near the SSD level of performance.
I realize it helps other consoles, just saying not Xbox1x machines

Wait so last gen consoles HAVE to buy a ssd to play? The heck? What happened to the optimization from 3 years ago? This is why they need to think of consoles as well, not just pc, I am on pc and find this bs.
My Xbox1x came with a variety of SSD in it. Pulsar also has the same Xbox and tried an SSD on his, and it made no difference to the freezes, stutters, and lags.
So this "solution" won't help either...

Yup, all of you guys are entitled as hail. Everybody demands instant fixes but you guys have no idea how difficult and slow going it is to find the cause of bugs, much less fix them. Yes, I get it, some of you fools spent huuuundreds of dollars on this game. That's on you, they can end support of this game at any time and you couldn't do anything about it. Its 5 years old. I've spent a total of $30 on this game and have all the killers. Game was free, all non licensed killers obtained with shards, and licensed killers obtained during half off sales. Just to show you how much its on you for spending all that money.
Is it also on us to still be waiting for that goal they set back in March 2019 for ALL PLATFORMS will run their dang game at 60fps minimum?
My Xbox rarely gets up to 30 on DBD, just this game only mind you, and can slip into the teens on indoor maps.

We could have it slowly regain tokens just like the Pebble does, being near the killer long enough but not chased

Personally I think the console and PC versions should be given separate treatment. Turn the dc penalty back on for PC at least. YOu can't get into a game without someone quitting.
They won't do that. Their track record has shown they do changes to all platforms all at the same time, so it never again blatently looks like preferential treatment, just one single playerbase.
The moment they activated Crossplay we were all are tossed into the quicksand together bois n guls! :)

Btw crashing at loading wouldn't hit you with a dc ban, dc bans only applies to when you quit after the match starts.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2350894#Comment_2350894
PC players dont have the issue it what hes implying not because they should be allowed to be petty. If your connection doesn't drop you shouldn't dc. If you quit while connected you deserve a ban
Problem is they cannot tell the difference between connection issues and an actual manual dc. So they are penalized the same.

Besides the stuttering, did you ever noticed that on console we are kinda slower movement wise (running etc.) ? I noticed it immediately when crossplay was enabled for the first time.
I don't see people mentioning this.
What i noticed when playing killer side is PCrs can hug corners much tighter than on controller, so they get one or more loops than I can do. I imagine it's the same for PC killer they could catch up quicker in a loop I bet.
-
I think their entire point in making Crossplay was to unite the playerbase and improve queue times.
I too wish for a console-only option, but I just don't see it ever happening. Nor do I think it's even close to fair, even with pre-RE levels of game performance.
Besides the basic advantage of framerate, there's the sensitivity & input delay with a controller (and we aren't ever getting k&m support either), messing around with video & sound card options, ability to run it on low or medium graphics for even better fps, ability to screw around with the actual game files, and more. And that's without "alternate options" like stretch res or whatever.
No way anyone can realistically look at how this game is both coded and played & say we all are on the same game.

That's a fair point to make. Yet, if they are currently working on a fix for the existing fps, maybe the reason that 3rd zombie didn't work in the first place is somehow linked to that. Once it is back up and working, maybe they could look again into it and see if it's a future possibility.
As far as I know they didn't even test the third zom on console yet, just early development on PC. I asume they develop their killers on a kick ass PC, and if that had a hard time running it...... yikes
-
@Seraphor said:
Zombies are pretty inconsequential for higher skilled survivors, but can be life or death for those who make the mistake of running right into them. But then a poorer killer can lean on them a little more in lower ranks while the higher ranked killer will do better with his main power, so it's a decent levelling mechanic, making him viable at all skill levels. Providing the matchmaking is fair that is...
At most I could get on board with a Very or Ultra Rare add-on that allows him to spawn a third Zombie when he gets his power to Tier III.
@Marc_go_solo said:
As an add-on, I'd be all for an extra zombie or 2, but as a base-kit those 2 individual zombies are fair enough, especially since Nemesis actually has outsourced help, whilst no other killer currently does.
Besides, the camping zombies are perhaps some of the best help you can get!
While developing Nemmy they had an iri add-on that did spawn a third zom zom, but scrapped it because it sapped game performance badly. So if another zombie effed up frames during internal PC test runs, imagine what it would do to the consoles...

Inaccurate, most players are PC players.
Absolutely not all consoles together outnumber PCrs, with the various PlayStations approaching the PC count by themselves. I play on Xbox much smaller playerbase though.

because it's all the same hardware and can't be modified like PC so there is nothing to change.
So there's no way for consoles to run DBD on anything but Ultra graphics? I'd love a setting to put it in low or even medium and see if it improves performance or not.
And I'm pretty sure they just changed all Switch consoles to low and those players rejoiced. So something is possible.

right it sounds like they either need to increase their team to add stability updates for all the systems or keep their team size the way it is and drop support for last gen.
if adding stability to last gen is posing a problem with updates it may be time to pull the plug on last gen.
I'm pretty sure they cannot cut loose the proir gen machines while Sony & Microsoft still update & support those consoles due to contracts.
Also the majority of the playerbase is on console, with something like 80% of those still on PS4 or Xbox1 types. How could they afford to lose that huge chunk of players? And imagine the queue times of they did!

What kind of SSD and does your XBOX One X have USB 3.0 or 2.0 ?
As far as I know all Xbox1's use only 3.0 and it's a 1T memory internal hybrid SSD. I am not tech saavy in the least so I barely know what all that even means! ;)

So I've just re-enabeled long recording on PS4, here's 5mins of stutterless plague gameplay using the external SSD. If anyone has a SSD knocking about at home I'd def spend the $6 on a convertor cable, again though don't buy an SSD just to address it.
Edit: just had a game on phead on swamp where all 3 dead hards used in the game did not cause any performance loss whatsoever, they just animated forwards, of course when I told PS4 to save clip it gave me the last 37seconds of the match and not 5mins...
My Xbox1x came with a SSD and struggles mightily to run this game. Doubtful another would make a difference performance wise

You can literally buy one for 600 that will run better than your current console I promise you that but it's fine some people like console better than PC and I understand that , some people have been there for years and don't want to start over with every game on a new system , performance wise biting the bullet and upgrading is your best bet
Most of us have hundreds of not thousands of hours into this game, not to mention whatever money spent as well. There is no Cross Progression nor is it coming.
So anyone wanting to abandon these archaic stone-age devices would have to rebuy this wonderfully stable game, rebuy the dlc's, and any wanted cosmetics. Plus the best part, regrind everything from scratch.
I don't think many vets will be willing to do all that again. You know the grind of this game.

Except its not, if they were to code the game to no longer have any issues, you would need to be fine with no new content for at least 6 months. Assuming their newer content should "just work" is being ignorant about the state of the game.
DBD was created, not through code, but through schematics. That base game has never been recoded. DBD didnt reach the size it does now untill 2019. They have hired coders, but that doesnt matter as the base game remains the same.
Besides, it has ran properly untill the most recent update, which, again, has nothing to do with the most recent update, but with the base game.
But it wasn't running properly before the RE chapter on console, just oh so much worse after. That's what so many of us are on about!
-
While developing Nemmy they had an extra zom zom as an iri add-on. Upon testing it wreaked game performance bad enough to be scrapped and changed.
So we're are back at two.

I mean, the thing is, they did have a steady 60 fps on all platforms. The issue is indeed the core of the game, which I agree needs changing.
BUT THAT WAS NOT THE ARGUMENT. The argument was "its a 5 year old game, I shouldnt upgrade my PC to be able to play it". Which is a bad argument.
I use an Xbox1x, supposedly the strongest of the proir gen consoles, built in 2018. It is not an "ancient" machine like the 2013 consoles. It runs just about any game well, but DBD it cannot digest well at all. And it should be able to. Heck the other consoles should be able to as well.
It's. Just. This. Game.
-
@Predated said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2337349#Comment_2337349
To be fair, you cant really call a game that's constantly recieving updates a 5 year old game. You could install the 2016 version of DBD and play it just fine. 5.0 is by all definitions a 2021 game.
Could this game be better performance-wise if they recoded the entire game to have a better core? Yes, definitely, but it IS a 2021 game. League of Legends 2021 doesnt perform well on a pc from 2010, even though its a 10 year old game. Same for Minecraft. So yes, if you have an older rig and refuse to update your hardware even though the software keeps recieving updates, at one point, your hardware will fail on you because the software requires better hardware.
SSD is getting cheaper every 3 months, its almost never worth getting an HDD anymore if you enjoy playing games. Developers in the majority of companies are going to assume you're able to at least buy an SSD. Heck, I've connected my SSD and HDD together, where my HDD can preload neccesary files to my SSD so I can keep my SSD relatively clean and empty. Let alone the fact that there are many reasons to buy an SSD over an HDD too other than just loadspeeds.
Yeah, if DBD is your only game, it's a bit much for a price, but if your graphics card starts failing, if your processor starts failing, it will need replacement, if DBD is your only game, all those costs are also needed to make a "5 year old game" playable, because BHVR isnt going to make the game work for outdated hardware.
So what, we let them off the hook for setting goals like their game running at a steady 60fps on all platforms back in March 2019? Were they hopeful they could achieve that, or delusional, or what? And forgive them for never ever bringing it up again?
Hard to swallow all that. Hard to have hope too.

No point getting a SSD my Xbox1x came with one, a hybrid type holding 1T of memory, so the difference would be negligible.
The series x is still not available near me nor do i have $500-600 just laying about anyways. So without Cross Progression I'm nearly boxed in, and will have to suffer whenever I wish to play DBD.
Which sadly is becoming less and less as each day passes. I wonder if they are concerned with lots of consolers possibly just fading away...

I can't really do anything in a chase without lag it's literally impossible when will this be fixed?
Welcome back fellow consoler! Oh boy what did you miss.......
Welp the RE chapter was released, so yay! Within hours they had to disable the new RCPD map due to ALL platforms reporting huge lag spikes and rampant connction issues, with a sprinkling of overheats as well. You can fire up the new map in custon mode for now, and they lowered the graphics on the Switch to aid their woes some.
Hardest hit you guessed it was Xbox1 and PS4 machines, but in truth it hit everyone hard enough for them to turn off dc penalties, which are still off.
Next two hotfixes were released, which improved PC performance & stability some but precious little for the other consoles.
-
@Rokku_Rorru said:
So I've been thinking since the recent developers update that the really bad hits everyones getting from both sides isn't just made worse by hit validation: but the poor framerate. Why? I'm going to guess lol:
Games run their logic via an update method which checks for things every frame, which is were a lot bugs can occur (clipping out of bounds due to a missed collision check coz going too fast etc). I think people with low frame rates are causing delayed hit checks with the recent freezes which then take a while to process then have to go through the hit validation system, so there is this huge desync caused by slow validation on the person with lower framerate (the majority of PS4/Xbox players in the recent update).
If the above is true it's possible it will be fixed with the server being the judge buuuuut... I'm honestly concerned it's going to make it unenjoyable more so for those who are playing on poorly optimized systems.
Maybe put every system on low graphics like the switch until they can optimise it better (if you're gonna be lazy about it).
I'm just concerned.
At least give console the option to change the graphics settings ourselves. The very first thing those who play this game on PC do when they encounter framerate issues is change it off of Ultra. We have no such option at all.

Not to toot my own horn, but I see no legitimate downside to this.
Originally, I thought 600 per generator, which would add up to 3k when all gens are done, + 5k for actually escaping to max out the category. A lower score event would allow for other events such as a self-heal, DS, and so forth. But it still has to be a significant number.
400 would be an ideal number, I think. 2k for all gens + 5k for escaping, leaving another 1k to be filled with additional events.
Works for me! :)
-
@GentlemanFridge said:
I still believe all living survivors should be granted somewhere between 150-600 Survival BP whenever a generator is completed, regardless of if they worked on it or not.
I like this idea, maybe 300-400 towards Survival if you are in chase when a gen pops.

Your console must be blessed, blessed I say!
There have been many on this thread and in others on the various PS4 machines that have not been as fortunate as you with their consoles. Just like there are many PCrs who never had a problem performance wise until the RE chapter came out.

Those too have been impacted by the last few patches, just not as harshly. Even our PC cousins have had an uptick in performance issues.
Besides, there's no reason PS4 or Xbox1 cannot run this game well. Far more demanding games run fine on both, even RE Village just out. In addition to the points others made in this thread, i bet if they didn't have all assets load into each and every match whether they are used or not, performance would improve for us across all platforms.

Killer has a longer than usual queue time, I assume because people want the sweet sweet BPs. Can BHVR see this a sign that the current grind is BS? Also on another note, I really am assuming that these Killers that are for the BPs are getting rekt as on the morning this weekend I was force to play survivor due to queue time being longer than 3 minutes and matches are short as average of 5 minutes due to People on their SWFs getting serious about escaping while sparkly. In my survivor games I just hold m1 all day because people keep Slugging and camping due to Gens flying too fast, As a Killer main I hope these survivor main whose trying Killer for the cakes get a taste of their own medicine. I hope BHVR see the recent data and balance around it it the future.
It would be difficult imo to get much use out of data from since RE came out due to the crashes/instability of the game and the rampant dc'ing when the penalty system was switched off.

I cleared the pass a while back, but have 2 challenges left (hook obsessions and trap during chase). Once I've done these...I'm on a break from DBD. I will log in for the event rewards but that's it.
The freezing has got ridiculously bad. The game would stutter no end. One time an Ace vaulted the fence loop on Badham, and *bang* he was gone. Disappeared. I also kept getting teleported and loosing my rhythm.
Hand on heart, this game is in the worst state it's ever been.
I've been playing DBD since around the time it was ported on over to Xbox, and agree the current state of the game is at an all-time low performance wise.
However watching footage from when the game was new and only on PC will do more than raise an eyebrow...

You can easily check this on your own.
- start up DBD
- open up your task manager if on windows/ whatever your OS calls it
- go to the performance tab
- look at the memory in use value, now it will probably be fluctuating a lot but we can call this the 'start' of when DBD is running
- Play a bunch of games
- check your memory again, if it is extremely bloated and you haven't run anything else odds are dbd has a memory leak
Edit: This is assuming the leak is significant, technically the above might not catch a leak if it is extremely small/rarely occurs
And how would console check this?
-
Am I the only one amazed at the lengths we all are going through trying to make this mess of a game we love function? There's another thread going into choice sexy technobabble on how to reclaim frames on PC.
Y'all better be getting commission monies or sumthin if you insist on doing the work for the devs....
-
As others have said Cross Progression is in the hands of Sony and Microsoft send your barbs there.

I'm assuming you're on PC playing killer. The survivors are not dodging you, they've likely got high ping.
Unstable rollercoaster ping is part of the bargain with Crossplay with us consolers.
Before Blight came out my ping was bouncing around 40-60, never still always on the move. When the patch following Blight was released (Blight's actual patch caused insta-overheats for most Xbox1x machines like mine, see the Tech diff part of this forum for more about that episode) my ping range became 70-90 and still is. With no change to internet or ethernet cable or anything else, 250down & 100up, and I'm less than three hours from the server.
Now just imagine the ping ranges of my console cousins on wi-fi....

Could just tell you if you're vs a SWF after the game, and not before. Then maybe new killers won't feel so bad when they have a rough match
And remember/write down gamertags for dodging next time. Still leads to SWF never getting a game ever.

Firstly, I will say, there are tons of bugs. I'm 100% for a QOL break from content releases, but I also understand how that could kill the company depending on loss of player base.
Reporting bugs and complaining about bugs that are years old is perfectly reasonable, but some people get SO pushy, entitled and impatient. If a brand new bug comes out, its hard to fix. Really hard. Especially for a game as complex and old as DBD. And a lot of people don't know that, so here's a good analogy:
https://www.reddit.com/r/ProgrammerHumor/comments/id62nw/fixing_a_bug_in_production/
You underestimate just how hard the RE chapter and both patches after it have deeply worsened game performance across all platforms, with consoles hit extremely hard.
Those updates have agrivated long-standing existing issues while piling on more new ones, many making the game unbearable and borderline unplayable.
Having this happen at the release of the biggest title to join DBD and right before the anniversary, coupled with vague communication, have increased the bitterness as well.
Game runs good for you, great you enjoy the event. A whole buttload of players are not.

Discordance on a mobile killer will break those up nicely. Knowing where at least two survs are should be put to your advantage.
