Performance has been bad for me, and I'm on PC. I can only imagine how miserable it must be on console.

Imagine you vault with Lithe then the game freezes, and a few seconds later you're on the ground about a dozen feet away up against a tree or wall you apparently ran into. The killer is over you wiping their weapon, prolly giggling at your "choice" of routing...

    Every. Dang. Match.

  • Haven't run across anyone with SG on in ages

  • After the abuses during the prolonged absence of the dc penalties around Nemmy's patches, most of us were glad to see it back.

But no fight it out or take the matchmaking lock. Practice lunges. Break some doors. Eat a sammich. Poop out said sammich.

One thing what really grinds my gears sometimes on the forums, is that the dev team doesn't talk to us.

What I mean by that is, why can't they give us information about what they're doing to actually fix these issues, what do they have planned to try and fix it. I mean, maybe we can help as costumers with constructive advice (like when some of you pointed out that the HDD is one of the issues).

Let us help making the game better.

But all we get is a "we acknowleged the situation" and then there is just silence. And more silence. And more silence.

I mean, console is a good portion of your playerbase, TALK to us. We're almost at 94 pages on this thread and we only got a mod in here to say something (no personal attack). Show us console gamers some respect as a dev team, with at least a minimum response with what you got in mind to help our issues.

Console is more than a good portion, banded together we actually outnumber PCrs. And yet it seems each patch over the last two years or so weren't even tested on console before release, when I know they must have. If they did thoroughly test Nemmy's patch for instance, and pushed it out anyways, that worries me more than anything.

As far as the lack of direct communication with us, particularly here in the forums, we all are partially to blame with the amount shyyttt we've given them over the years.

But still some occasional word on things like the fabled 60fps for all platforms from over two years back would be nice.

  • As much as i love RE and the second game in particular, I cannot get past how this chapter absolutely nuked the consoles into the ground. And even though three patches have been released since then, many of those performance issues are still present, putting the game in a worse spot than before RE came out. And the game's performance was already rough then.

Sorry if this has been asked before but I'm just curious if anyone thinks that cross progression will ever arrive? I play on Xbox and would love to eventually be able to just play on my pc but have the same account and not lose all my hours and progress.

I don't personally see it coming ever, but at most not anytime soon which sucks.

Console just seems to be getting worse for performance issues which makes me wish I could just link my account to my pc.

Usually we dump on the devs here, but in this case I'm inclined to think it's Sony & Microsoft holding this up. The devs know Cross Progression is badly wanted, and they say they're working on it and I believe them on this one.

From the looks of things it is finally coming to Switch soon. As for Xbox or PlayStation, it may never happen sadly.

    Happened on patch 5.1.1.

Since I've never seen map offering fail, here's a screenshot for You guys proving that map offerings have a chance of failing.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/TBKV99H4J3ZA/5-1-1-map-fail.png

The devs said that map is disabled and any offering for it would be wasted.

so I can dodge the lobby without guessing thx

They won't do that for several reasons. It would hurt queue times badly as groups are dodged repeatedly and unlikely to ever get a lobby. The last time the devs put out numbers, about half of all survs were in at least a two-man group. That was two years ago, and with solo queue just so wonderfully awesome I have to believe the number of groups has risen.

    There is a pre-game chat...

Could they mean for Crossplay with the consoles?

  • @BingBongMan said:

It sounds like a very limited issue, you're basically the only person I've heard of that's had that happen.

You can't disable something just because 1 or 2 people are having an issue.

Not to mention how DC penalties prevent DBD players from acting like literal children who quit if they don't like the smallest thing.

If I don't restart DBD every 3-5 matches i am likely to get this error. Have had to do this for years now. Stream stays up, party chat fine, but booted out of the game and penalty. So it is more than 1-2 people. I'd rather a fix than droping the penalties though.

That's the point. I can call it tunneling in the situation when my goal is to kill someone (maybe streamer or toxic player) and don't care about the game. The meaning of the "tunneling" word actually like that.

Another thing is when I find the survivor who was already hooked and chase him. It's a logical decision. But baby survs are butthurting for somewhat and writing some nonsenses in the post-game chat and steam profile =/

Come play with us on console then! No Steam and no Chat Box!!! Hehehe

I ran it once for like a month just to counter the doctor. Didn't see him once so I took it off and the very next match was against the Doc 😂

Too funny. Much like running Unbreakable for a while, no slugging happens, then he first match ya took it off bam everyone is slugged...

  • Doc hates Calm Spirit, but rarely sees it run

  • Tunneling to me is a killer focusing only on one surv and disregarding all else. Like in chase passing & ignoring two or three gens being actively worked on kinda focus. As for tunneling off the hook, it's more up to smarter unhooking timing or the resquerer defending the unhookee better.

Focusing on one surv with five gens still to go is borderline to me, as I see the killer's side of how much getting it down to three alive quickly benefits them. But much like face camping it just absolutely sucks for the one on the hook.

  • @Huge_Bush said:

Play as Claudette and wear her dark clothes. Run Spine Chill and bring in a tool box. Put an offering in for Yamaoka map. Work on gens, when Spine Chill lights up, sneak off into the bushes. Rinse and repeat.

Doc loves survs who try this...

This. All platforms would greatly benefit from a complete and thorough optimization

Hey guys, are there any more performance updates planned for last gen? I didn't play for two weeks.

Game is a little bit better but still not good enough like pre re from what I have seen.

Any news while I was absent?

You've pretty much summed it up. Game performance has slightly improved over the last two hotfixes, but overall it is still worse than before RE came out.

So there I was, playing Ghostface, hoping to get a 4k mori for my challenge from Tome V, "With Any Means," where you have to kill all survivors using any means. I was on my 6th attempt as the last 5 using ebonys hadn't gone well. This attempt was going well. 3 gens left, two survivors already mori'd, with the other two already on last hook. However, as soon I downed one, they both left. I won and got merciless killer, but didn't get the challenge done since they left.

My question is... why Behavior, why? Why can't you count dc'ing survivors as a "kill?" Why do I have to deal with them and get nothing but a few bloodpoints in return because they were salty?

I'm just generally asking. That's all. Thank you for reading.

Once you mori'd the second survivor, and there's no Devour Hope in play, the other survivors prolly realized you had an iri mori offering up and dc'd out of spite to avoid it.

I can decently flick with Oni but still have a long way to go with Blight. I am on controller tho

I tried Blight on my Xbox but with the barious frame issues and the cam turning a bit slower than moving your character I cannot build up any reliable muscle memory, let alone flick. Even at the max controller sensitivity.

Incidentally to our PC cousins out there, the different speeds of swinging our cam and swinging our character is the main reason is consolers look behind us way less often. As far as I can tell they're practically the same swing speed on PC.

Whenever I load in and see that it's a Freddy match I get so bummed because I know performance is going to be terrible. I've stopped even trying those matches, I commit to a gen until Freddy pulls me off because I don't feel like dealing with a slide show chase.

I'm wary about the hotfix on Tuesday. I want to be hopeful but after the other hotfixes just making things worse I'm kind of dreading what performance will be this time.

I think we all dread what a patch will do to performance

This is getting out of Hand now. Im seriously pissed about this. Whenever DBD shoots me an Error or i just start the Game the next day or so, im back at Rank 17 (im green Rank+ btw.)! Basically,my rank gets reset whenever i START the game.

It takes me hours to get back to a more "playable" rank because of Potato Teammates who crouch all game in the corner of the Map, doing nothing but hide. And the funny part is, I GET CAMPED FOR THAT. How should i ever be able to get anything done?

Im seriously thinking about leaving DBD. Fix your f*ing Game.

If you believe this to be a bug, perhaps post this in the Bug area of the forum. Someone else might be having the same problem and have possible solutions there. Maybe include platform & perks & map & killer and what was going on.

Also after each patch in uninstall then reinstall DBD. I like to think it helps.

  • @Pulsar i think once this thread hits tripple digits the devs should raffle off 100 ssd's to our PS4 brethren. Think of them as purple medkits for those hurtin for certain.

I last played DBD two days ago. First match was as a surv against Freddy on Lery's, and all Xbox despite Crossplay on. One surv dc's shortly after the start wadnt even found yet, so I assume hated Fred or map. One gen pops in the opposite corner, and I'm on the center gen.

Fred and a loud Bill come through the middle, I get the usual skill check while letting go, and am greated with a slow-motion slide show as I turn my cam. Felt like a drunken water sprinkler with low pressure.

Bill vaults a window and the frames drop further, so I'm guessing Lithe. The Freddy swings and misses, stops movin, and dc's. Fun had by all.

Haven't fired up this game since.

  • Not exactly true read through Pulsar's ubar thread. You'll find examples from all the consoles, including PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, many with vids, and even from PCrs on various rigs.

The issues with optimization and game performance are much more widespread than we supposed. Hopefully threads like that can push us past the unhelpful "it doesn't happen to me" mentality.

Also the prior gen players are together the largest playerbase by far, and will continue to be as long as newer machines are scarce & way overpriced. Which is looking like at least another year. Shouldn't the devs show the most love and care there?

The fact that the devs acknowledged this possibility and even made it an achievement is disgusting in and of itself.

Add it to the "not really thought out" pile.

Tis quite the large pile these days!

  • @UncleStabby said:

I had a match recently where I was Trickster. Someone opened the hatch with a key mid chase, I closed it, got into another chase, and they did it again. Two keys.

    Two

    Keys

Proposed solution. Don't change keys... BUT, make it so that hatch DOES NOT SPAWN until there is only one survivor left.

That change wouldnt allow the 4-man hatch escape Achievement/Trophy to be possible, and changing achievements is for some reason very insanely difficult on the consoles. Microsoft and Sony both resist it mightily, and I'm not really sure why, but they do.

I wish I would but sadly I'm on console.

Same. Us consolers have no opportunity to even try this. Whether it would be solos trying to coordinate perks & plays, or calming anyone from a previous rough match, who knows the good it could do. Maybe even over-riding or preventing some toxicity...

  • @TheArbiter said:

Rtx 3070, 9900k, 32gb ram and I still get at least one random stutter per match that lasts several seconds.

  • @Chilli_man2400 said:

I can explain it perfectly. When BHVR created dbd they used unreal blueprints for there game engine to create dbd this engine is used to make cheap and fast games. Who would a thought a game made on a cheap engine would become the most popular horror game of the end of 2010s. But basically when the game got popular and better the devs added more and more on top of the code and because of that the engine literally has stacks of code and wires on top of each other and it’s very messy.

its basically the foundation of the game is collapsing because of all the code being stacked on top of each other every update. There’s so much that they can’t sort through all of it and one change and the code messes up the game.

The only way to fix the codes is to do what mobile did completely Rewrite the code from the ground up so the game can have a fresh new foundation and won’t collapse.

this is why the game is poorly optimized cause the devs never reworked the code from the ground up

I've seen it stated in other posts the game has to load each killer's code as well as all their add-ons perks etc. in each match, whether they are played or not, and then run through all that code for what is needed. YIKES!

You've never had to troubleshoot a console? Lucky you. Sometimes it isn't fun tracking down a problem. Then again if your one of those experiencing issues and haven't tried troubleshooting then that could explain the issues your having.

The only troubleshooting I know how to do is unplug everything from my xbox and leave off for a couple of minutes, then reconnect and maybe just maybe the system cache is cleared. Maybe.

My NAT is open and internet very good. Ping is 70-90ms ever since the patch after Blight came out (Blight's actual patch overheated all Xbox1x's and was fixed by the following patch, check out the Tech Issues for more on that).

We can't even defrag. What troubleshooting do you recommend?

If it is 90 pages of 30 comments then Pulsar put things out of context by only putting the number 90 in response to Kyxlect's comment on about it only being one person.

In any case as many have pointed out if it was the game more people would be experience it and that doesn't appear to be the case now that many of the issues with the Resident Evil DLC have been fixed. Instead of posting in this 90 page thread perhaps they should be troubleshooting their systems.

    "Troubleshoot their systems"

    ((Laughs heartily in console))

I haven't gotten more than one Meg with this mask on either.

  • Freddy has been hurting frames on the proir gen consoles for years, since his power rework. It's most noticable on Lery's but also on any indoor map or older non-reworked ones, and in both roles.

This is something I don't understand. Why wouldn't DbD support mouse and keyboard on consoles? It's such a bizarre decision by BHVR.

Mystifies is all. When this was last publicly discussed prolly over two years ago the reasons given were: it would take way too long & be way too much work to implement, and also require a UI overhaul as well.

To me that sounds like a nope never, meaning the new gen machines won't get it either. Makes playing Blight and Nurse etc. to their full potential on console impossible imo.

  • @PhantomChimera said:

Not sure how you are coming to the conclusion that issues not being experienced by the most of the players on the console in question is the fault of the game.

Especially taking into account that consoles of one type are pretty much cookie cutter with consoles of the same type many the specs being the same from one console to the next.

Taking that into account if someone is having an issue with a game on their console that many others aren't having then it would seem the issue is with the console and not the game.

Like Pulsar said read through that giga-thread for examples of these problems, most from proir gen machines plus many with video clips on the newer gen consoles as well as PCrs all having the same issues.

It shows the problems are wider than anyone dreamed, and worsened badly with the RE chapter & the two following patches only partially fixed the issues.

If everything runs great for you wonderful, but I would consider you above all lucky at this point.

SWFs are fair, voice chat softwares are not

If voice chat is fair why do stealth killers or perks like tinkerer kindred or bond even exist?

VC is the real problem here and it isn't fair if it isn't an official feature

What could the devs do about this if they even wanted to? How could it be enforced?

I don't know about the other platforms, but on Xbox the party chat is entirely separate from any game being played. Heck we all can be playing different games and be in the same chat. So DBD wouldn't even know there's a chat. I imagine PlayStation is similar.

Also I believe Microsoft mandated any game they accept cannot interfere with the party chats in any way.

What do you think the devs can do about it?

    FYI for console players:

Killers that have power bars suffer a constant low framerate when using the power bars (eg plague puking). This primarily effects:

    • Bubba
    • Oni
    • Plague (she is borderline unplayable)
    • Pyramid
    • Twins (releasing victor, playing as vic is fine)
    • Doctor (only has very minor drops)

I will update the list as I gradually test some other killers. The only exception I've found is billy, he suffers literally no performance issues when charging his saw.

With the RE patch and the two after I lose plenty of frames using Piggy's dash attack, and now it makes sense it too has a charge bar.

The only person that tunneling slows down is the killer. Also I still see aura's behind gems. Its not that hard to see a spot of bright red that fades out of view. You know unless this is purely brown rank we're talking about.

Not true on Xbox, their aruas blend right in if they move behind the gen.

  • The theory goes like this:

By far most of the players are on console, where chat parties are really easy to set up, and since playing killer on console is just super fun most of them play survivor. I don't care about cosmetics myself I go for camouflage, but in every party I'm in it's all about those cosmetics & who's got what. So the larger survivor playerbase is buying more of the cosmetics as well.

So goes the theory. Too bad we cannot get actual numbers about anything on console due to the various UEA's. Would prolly answer many questions.

They can change the achievement. Games do it all the time. Keeping an unhealthy mechanic like that for that reason is ridiculous. By that logic killers had achievements for a certain number of moris in one game so they never should have made it more difficult.

There are also rift challenges involving keys, and yes while those could be changed altering achievements/trophies on the consoles are extremely difficult to get permissions to do. I'm not even certain why Sony and Microsoft resist this either, but they do.

This is one of the primary reasons key changes are taking forever to do, and are being done in baby steps.

I'm on Ps4 Pro playing on external 7200rpm HDD.... and just played as Blight on Haddonfield. It's actually playable now. I got one minor freeze when Dragon Grip triggered for first time. I think it's because the notification was on screen. Otherwise I had no glaring issues when rushing or attacking. I'm pretty sure I sensed a few frame drops here and there, but overall it didn't really affect my gameplay. The draw distance of grass still loads in too close to camera but whatever.

Going forward, if everyone could mention their specific platform and HDD situation, that'd be helpful. If you have a regular external drive, I'd reccommend playing off that. It won't be as helpful as an SSD, but it's probably faster than the stock 5400rpm drive in the PS4.

I play on an Xbox1x which already has a SSD of sorts in it. I believe Pulsar tried using an external SSD on his 1x and saw little difference.

If a SSD helps out our PlayStation cousins that's wonderful, but kinda doing the devs work for them a little imo.
