YASSSSSSSSSS!
Congrats! I remember when Blight's chapter came out, most xbox1x machines (just those, not regular or slim xbox1's) like mine insta-overheated when you started DBD. Was unable ro launch the game until the patch the following week came out. I hope your console wasn't part of that mess too.

I have since installed a tower fan into the side of my pc. A barely noticable adjustment that has lead to me being .2° cooler and not helped the issues at all.
Consolers: Is........ Is that a kompooter? Ohhhhhh ahhhhhhh
Yeah you hardly can tell there's a lighthouse fridge right next to $1k+

Oh, I know the console experience. I played on Switch, a laptop that couldn't break 15fps and an old desktop that averaged 7.
I spent 1.3k to escape that hell. I know how awful it is.
And yet I am doomed to return
Dang you were so close to being out!
By the way, most excellent rant! :)

Okay, just played my first game of Nemesis and here's my input on it:
What the #########?!
I was dropping frames and freezing. PC, Ryzen 7 3700x, 6GB GTX 1660, 32GB (4x8GB) RAM, 1TB Samsung SSD, And I was dropping frames and freezing. No other game has this issue. No other game stuttered as badly as this one match did. My computer is reaching record-high levels of temperature and I have the side of the PC off because I knew how hot it'd get. That didn't help.
What the actual ######### is this?! In the nicest possible way, of course.
I should not be dropping frames. I can play other multiplayer and single player games just fine. I should not be dropping frames on a game with minimum specs as low as an AMD FX-8120, a 1GB GTX 460, and 8GB RAM. I should not be dropping frames when the recommended specs are an Intel i3-4170, a 4GB GeForce 760, and 8GB RAM.
I don't really know what else to say, except from what the #########?!
If this cannot cope with it- a machine costing upwards of £1300 built in 2020 (bearing in mind, a 2016 game), what hope do lower end consoles have at the current level?
I'm aware BHVR have said they're looking into this. If they don't fix the abysmal optimisation in total, despite having said 60fps in 2018, then it's honestly not enough.
I've said enough times for you that you've got enough staff on enough teams BHVR. I've summarised your streams and told it exactly like you have.
Now prove to me, and to the rest of your consumers, that you mean you'll fix this.
Without ever intending to, it looks like they have finally shared the console experience with everyone.
Pull up a pew and I'll have someone take your drink order. Welcome brother!

Okay devs at least you acknowledged the issue we're all facing regardless of platform. Which is optimization. But, now you have to actually fix it. Please this is one my favorite games and to see it become so unenjoyable to poor optimization. Is brutal. And everyone feels this way. We know there's things you can't fix like toxic behavior. But optimization we know you can fix.
So many of us have prayed mightily for a thorough & proper optimization. I have a tiny little bit of hope there's been enough uproar to see it done.

My specs are almost identical to yours, Ryzen 5 5600x, 16GB RAM and a RTX 3060 Ti. I play at 60 fps and the frame drops are really noticeable and have been driving me insane.
@Red_Beard said:
My PC is an i5 - 4690k 3.5GHz, 24.0 GB ram, GTX 970, Windows 10 x64 bit. Not a top of the line, but above the minimum specs. I am on the steam platform.
I've done lots of the things suggested. -dx12, increase virtual memory, reinstall EAC, review and shut off all the unnecessary background applications. All these things help some, but I still experience a lot of stuttering and mini freezes in game. Simply turning my camera can cause me to freeze.
I used to also play with an Xbox One S before crossplay because I had family members that played the game on Xbox. The freezes and stuttering where much more prevalent. When crossplay came out, I thought great, now I can play with my more stable PC and still play with my family. But they have all quit playing because the game runs so terrible on Xbox.
When they started the optimization project, I was really hoping they would make this better. They even created an optimization forum, that I contributed too, in hopes they would get the information needed to make the fixes. But if you go look at that section, you will see there is barely a post from a developer even asking for more information to people's concerns.
They made a pretty roadmap graph, said they did some changes which some people claimed helped but others still said they had issues. After that it just went radio silent. They got a few people to say things seemed a little better and it seems liked they just wiped their hands of it, even though they weren't all the way through their timeline on the road map.
I have not bought the new chapter and will not put anymore money into this game.
Thank you both and all the other PCrs that have stopped by sharing their performance experiences. Us consolers know what we experience may not always be what those on PC get, and if your bad ass machines struggle with DBD it makes me even more apprehensive for the future on console, particularly the proir gen ones the vast majority are still on.
On a side note I bet y'all 3 auric cells if they eveaaaaaa ever ever ever put out a DBD2 it will be only on PC and stay there. My opinion of course...

Amazing. This awesome thread now goes out the door, around the corner, and clear down the street. With no official response.
Last night had two matches as killer and one as a surv not start because of a dc during loading, and three unknown errors in a row send me back to the main menu. Had to hard reset to stop that noise.
In another match a surv dc'd in front of me while my Piggy and they were memeing away in the exit gate. No way they'd purposely dc at that moment, and if it were me I'd be super pissed. They were Crossplay so I don't even know their system.
During the matches the lag spikes and frame drops all us consolers know well & love have been far more frequent and pronounced.
I feel especially bad for our Switch cousins I know they have it even worse.

So what hope is there for us consolers when even the newest PC thingamabobs aren't enough...

I feel like the majority of the dbd player base is on last gen consoles. I don’t understand how a company can not give a complete ######### about such a large portion of their player base. I have a PS4 pro with an internal ssd and the game is unplayable. The frames are so bad if a survivor is close to me I can’t see them. 360’s are more effective then god pallets now. When I get 360’d it’s so easy to completely lose the survivors. I see them for one frame then they disappear.
Maybe stop with the chapters and stupid god damn cosmetics and put 100% focus on getting the game optimized. I was so excited for this chapter and after a couple hours play I’m done with it. Maybe it’s my fault cause behavior got my money already so why give a #########? I just feel like they are becoming a laughing stock of the industry for having such an old game run so poorly on consoles.
Please for the love of god. OPTIMIZE THIS GAME!!!!!
Decent rant not gunna lie. I believe you are correct most players are on the prior gen machines still, something like 85% of us. And altogether console outnumber PCrs in total. You'd think their attention would be on console for these issues of for no other reason than that.

I get 120 FPS with my 3060 Graphics Card. After this patch, I get frame rate drops to like 103 randomly XD

-
@justalilbit123 said:
Or how about just an "opt out" option for playing vs 3-4 mans.
Never gunna happen. Those teams would never ever get a match then. No amount of bribery imo would induce most killers to knowingly take on a SWF.
Post game bonus of some kind for the killer and a solo thrown in, makes sense to me.
-
I wouldn't wish these performance issues on any player, no matter the method they use to play DBD. Imo the wrong mentality.
All this notice on today's update and it's problems hopefully pushes it over the edge, and that fabled big ol' health patch comes next. It kinda had to at this point.
-
For years we've warned them. Over the past several months we all collectively laid out the problems, and basically begged & pleaded with them to address game performance.
Now they work out a deal with the biggest partner imaginable that will bring in eyes from everywhere. Steam hits an all-time player count, no doubt consoles does as well, and after a few hours they have dissable the map.
Disappointment coupled with not being surprised. Best way to sum it up.
I don't want the game to fail, or for people walk away. I want everyone everywhere to be able to enjoy DBD as the devs have tried to lovingly craft it.
Whatever in house is in the way, that's where the serious work must begin. Simply put, things can no longer proceed this way.

I wouln't have a poblem with this post-game. Maybe a multiplier similar to what BBQ & Chile does, like for each member of a group +50% bloodpoints and so on.
-
Now that many of our PC cousins have chimed in with their experiences and videos to back it up even, we begin to see just how wide spread the issues really are.
It reinforces the need for them to do a thorough and proper optimization for all our sakes. Just as important is an update on that March 2019 goal of a minimum 60fps for all platforms.
Imagine all of the new players about to join DVD when RE is released, many of them consolers and nearly all of them having just played RE Village with no problems. What experience and performance is awaiting them as things stand now?

If so, then yes.
Bushes and smaller rocks also pop in when you get close.
Also, the render distance is pretty bad. You have a tough time seeing across the map.

My spies and agents tell me the breakdown is something like this:
~223,000 total; approx 87000 on pc, 77000 on ps, 45000 on xbox, and 14000 everything else.
Now keep in mind they are an utterly unreliable pool of info even on the very best of days.

If you're playing on the xbox one or ps4, you're playing on old outdated hardware. I'd be saying the same thing if someone tried to run this game on a old pc or laptop.
Both Pulsar and I play this game on Xbox1x which came out around the same time they ported this game over to console. So say 2018 sometime, when DBD had been out for about two years. And we both have these performance issues.
Bottom line is it shouldn't take a NASA-strength pro gaming computer to properly run a five year old game, especially as our systems run far more demanding games with little to none of the problems.

Well... I have had killers DC when I am close to exit and baam. DC penalty because.... because I suppose I got out from the match earlier?
And no, the point is not "but dude it's a 5/10/25 min ban", if it's not justified then it's not justified... and also, there are ways to know if you have restarted your computer (or had to shut down due to lack of power), or if you used the "leave game" button.
As far as I know there isn't a single online multiplayer game out there that can tell the difference between connection issues and an actual player dc. So their system treats and penalizes them all the same.
Even if they somehow could differentiate the causes on PC, no way in heck they could track it through the consoles, which collectively is the larger playerbase now, and they no longer make changes just for one platform anymore, we're all lumped in this together.
-
The best hope we have imo is a functioning mmr that will only put strong squads against a killer that has much skill and experience, players who have practically mastered their main.
That is not me. I'm a fairly competent surv but by no means a good killer, reaching rank 14 or 13 at best with my Piggy and some Myers. When I got the game 1400hrs ago I attempted Nurse (the first killer i got to 50) for many weeks but finally gave up on her on my Xbox.
I am one of those convinced the vast majority of killers, including me, would dodge the hell outta all known SWF groups, to the point they'd never ever get a game.
So can't separate or advertise SWF before a match, devs won't debuff them in any way, and any buffs directly to killers would squash poor solos even further.
The only sane method imo I can see actually happening is to get solos the info & coordination capabilities to raise them toward SWF level, and then rebalance killers and maps around that new reality.
None of that means shyttt though without a proper mmr keeping players relatively in their lanes.

Hey I agree its a big issue but I'm not really sure what you want me to do about it. I could make a video that gets 8 trillion views and it still won't affect what Behavior actually does.
Your voice carries weight with the community even if it doesn't directly with the devs, as does all of the larger content creators of whatever quality.
From what I've seen of your videos over the years (aside from playing lots & lots of killer) you are passionate about this game, it's current state, and it's future.
So are we, and just recently we have attempted to band together in gathering support to the actual performance of this game outside of NASA-strength gamer PC rigs, which should not be a requirement to run a 5 year old game well in our opinion.
I've heard in your vids you let out the occasional comment about lags here, microfreezes there, and frame drops everydangwhere. Other creators comment on those as they occur in their vids too, but no one i know of has dedicated an entire effort to game performance as a talking point.
These problems are much more pronounced on the consoles and lower-end PCs, in particular the prior gen systems that like 85% of us are still on.
I and many here would appreciate you considering our cause. Ty

pretty sure there's actually no console fog whisperers
I though I read somewhere there was one on PS4, and the rest PC. I asked Mandy about it and they did not know their platforms. So they very likely are all on PC.
For the purpose of getting and handing out codes, auric cells, and the like it seems they can only do this through Steam, plus the PTB's run through there as well. All of which lends me to think console is and always had been an afterthought in all that they do.
Now that all together consolers outnumber PCrs, they suddenly have problems that they likely never wanted or intended to ever have to act on imo.

What disappoints me almost as much as the silence is that what we are after isn't just console problems, but something that would greatly benefit the entire playerbase regardless of platform.
And insisting on better performance while it has demostratedly degraded is not unreasonable imo at all. But we cannot even get some basic updates on goals now two years past.
Absolutely infuriating.

https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2258275#Comment_2258275
Alright, I asked him to explain what he means. This was his response.
“From what I know, Dead By Daylight uses one raw script that loads every single character and perk asset in the game regardless of if they are being used in the match. This means that, for example, Huntress assets like her hatchets and her point gain events are loaded even if Huntress isn’t present in the match. Having a single long script with every character’s data causes performance issues when a character is called into play later on due to the game having to find their data in the script to call upon.”
“Eventually, performance degrades to such a point that the game may stutter until it finds the correct character data to load into memory. Games with multiple characters usually compile seperate scripts of data that are loaded depending on if said character is in play; this is not the case with Dead By Daylight, since this game was built on “blueprints” made generically by other UE devs. The optimal loading method is to have all killer and survivor perks on one script, and all killer powers on individual scripts that can be called upon when that killer is present. If you notice, depending on what killer you are playing, the game may perform with more stutter or less depending on where the killer’s code is in the script.”
“That’s the gist of it. Also, the game stutters worse depending on what survivor is loaded into the lobby, with the four original survivors with their original clothing causing the least amount of stutter.”
”Also because of this ######### one-script method, it allows hackers to spawn in and use different killer powers regardless of if they are playing a different killer. Normally, spawning in a different character asset not present in that level would crash the game. Look at Left 4 Dead 2, spawning the bride witch on a stage she is not present in will crash the game.”
This does explain a great many things.
Appreciate ya looking into it for us! :)

This makes sense as performance tends to degrade the longer you play. I close and reopen the game after about 5 matches.
Same. Restarting the game regularly bandaids up many problems.
In the past few months it has been working around the busted lobby problem if I'm in a group of survs. After a match it's not uncommon for one or more to be there but not there, showing one of us in a match but others see everyone there and readied up.
-
@Ink_Eyes said:
Players tend to blame SWF when they get a bad match, truth is that SWF teams make up only like 10% (or less) of the overall population, it is very unlikely to go against a SWF team match after match, most of the times you are gonna be playing versus 4 solo survivors.
The thing here is that people sometimes don't want to accept they just had a bad match (or a streak of bad matches) true for example started blaming a ''SWF squad'' on one of his streams when he lost a match like a week ago, then when people investigated about it it turns out it wasn't a SWF team, they were just randoms who played really well and true had to back down and admit he played bad, but most people don't want to admit that, they rather give an excuse like ''they had an advantage over me'' than admit they played bad.
it is very unlikely that you had multiple matches against SWF, you can't even tell that they were SWF unless you got screenshots of them admitting in the end game chat that they actually were.
When they last released stats for SWF (over a year ago now) it showed just under half of all survs were in at least a 2-man, with 3- and 4-man's much less common.
Since then it makes sense that ratio must have grown, because of the game being free-to-play very often on the consoles, the lockdown, and how lovely & fun solo queue is right now.
So I'd say more than half of all survs are in some combo of SWF.

I really really hope they weren't pulling our collective leg when they mentioned optimization as part of their "4 Pillars".
