What is he supposed to do at this point? This is completely valid.

Consider it the killer equivalent to hatch. Against the majority of the cast who are incapable of instadowning, there's still a chance at a save and four out if the rest of the survivors swarm.

If the killer is entitled to a free kill just because their power allows them to facecamp? Why is the survivor not instantly killed? Why are they forced to wait out 2 hook stages or kill themselves?

  • I appreciate your replies C3Tooth, you've made a lot of good points 💪

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/407813/i-am-so-god-damn-sick-of-every-game-revolving-around-tunneling

Show us how easy it is to win (or even 2K) consistently without tunneling. Looking forward to seeing your gameplay.

My experience as a killer main who plays survivor only for the tome challenges is, the average killer does not play like I do. I run 2 slowdowns max and never tunnel. The vast majority of my games are 3ks where I let the last guy go. I played the new killer for around 4 hours yesterday and got two 1ks. Every other match was a 3k letting the last guy go. Meanwhile, when I switch to survivor, not only did I have to play 5 blights, 2 pigs, 2 billys, and they all tunneled, but the only 2 matches I played against the new killer, they both tunneled the first guy at 5 gens.

If you are hooking a survivor you tunneled for the 2nd time and a gen still isn't done, you have no excuse, you are not "being forced to tunnel because gens are too fast". You are doing it because it's way too strong of a strategy that can only be punished by good players, of which the average survivor is not. The effort it takes to tunnel is insignificant to the effort it takes to counter tunneling. If you have a guy who needs to cleanse 3 totems or find memory shards, guess what, he's not going to be slamming gens and trying to take hits/trade hooks just because a guy is tunneling.

  • @Soval said:

The other issue is that there is literally no penalty of just tunneling off hook repeatedly and killing someone at 4-5 gens left, then repeating. In fact the optimal playstyle is to just find the weakest looper and do exactly that since pain resonance and pop are still at full strength.

There needs to be a better balancing mechanism against killers that play like that, and for killers that struggle with getting their first down before losing 3 generators.

It doesn't even matter about finding the weakest looper. Even good survivors are sick to death of being tunneled and will just go next. I really don't blame them.

  • Wow, your solo q survivors actually DO things? Mine just hide in bushes and lockers.

  • Would be nice if my team mates didn't kill themselves on hook 1 minute into the game. Especially when the killer is running full meta and trying really hard to win. Some way to increase the likelihood of getting survivors that actually care about winning. A ranked mode maybe.

  • I'm more excited for the Slipnutz collection

  • Well the problem is multi-faceted, it's not just that "reports do nothing". They do ban people, it just takes a long time. But a bigger issue than this is the ease of obtaining a new account. Many hackers have dozens of accounts waiting to be used that were obtained when DBD was free for a period of time, on the epic games store I believe. Another issue is, from what I heard from a hack developer themself, is that BHVR is very slow and easy to beat in the cheat vs anticheat arms race.

If you’ve kicked a gen 8 times, that’s a minimum of 40% regression before accounting for any perks or regression time after the kick. How many times do you really think you need to kick 1 gen in a match?

As many times as it takes? If the survivors are trying to hammer out 1 particular gen, are you saying I'm obligated to let it go? What kind of sense does that make? That's taking all player agency away. That's like saying if a guy scores 8 goals in a hockey game (yeah I'm going there) that he's barred from trying to shoot at the net for the rest of the game. It's dumb. It punished people the mechanic was NOT AIMED AT.

Again, this is supposed to be ANTI 3 GEN. This is not supposed to be "anti gen regression". The entire point of the system is to punish chess merchant type play, where a killer runs 4 gen perks, does nothing but kick gens to try to drag the game on as long as possible. I have stated that not only do I run at most 2 slowdown perks, but usually 1, that I have personally seen the gen block mechanic kick in many, many times, simply because survivors are exploiting the fact that I can only kick it so many times.

You're suggesting there should be a limit on how many times you can make a good decision in a game. You're suggesting that if I see a gen at 90% with 2 guys working on it, that I should let them finish it. Do you truly not understand how messed up that logic is? Like I said, if a survivor got 4 flashlight saves, you would NEVER consider it fair for their flashlight to just disappear or be locked for the rest of the game.

The mechanic needs to be redesigned. OBVIOUSLY 3 genning should be addressed but what I'm saying is this isn't it.

  • I literally just got out of a game where somebody suicided on 1st hook against billy in the first 60 seconds

  • These stats are utterly useless. If you go to nightlight and filter from the singularity patch Made For This is in the top 4 used perks.

  • I'm so glad everything seems to work out for you.

  • MMR calculation needs to change. Right now, the only way to raise mmr for survivors is to escape. Did you loop the killer for 5 minutes in chase? Game doesn't care. Did 3 generators solo while also getting multiple unhooks and full heals? Game doesn't care. Game only cares about the Claudette that hid all game in lockers because the terror radius spooked them, then managed to find the hatch.

With MMR this way you have these awful matchmaking experiences where you'll have one game of strong allies who slam through the gens, then you'll have three games of absolutely braindead, immersed survivors that do nothing but hide, die or suicide on 1st hook.

I don't think it will change sadly, remember the "hockey analogy" dev? Devs seem to think if you didn't escape then you didn't play well.

  • @Ayodam said:

Same as it was. All of the things you’ve mentioned are still prevalent.

Really sucks to hear but thanks for the honesty.

  • @mischiefmanaged said:

Play more selfishly in those cases. If you're in a match where that's happening, play more stealthily and secure your hatch escape. When you're in matches where your teammates seem more capable, then take chases and generally play more aggressively.

Just like you would adapt to the killer and their chase style, adapt to your teammates. Do you notice that the Claudette has Prove Thyself? Maybe take aggro so they can do a generator unimpeded. Do you notice you have a teammate obsessed with being healthy and hiding behind a rock? Maybe go heal them and keep close to them or they won't do anything.

Also consider that you don't necessarily know what they are seeing or experiencing. If you're really ending up in 100% of your matches having terrible teammates, you might consider that you're making mistakes. Maybe you're being chased, but you're bringing the killer near objectives so they can't do generators. Maybe you're throwing pallets very quickly so you last awhile in chase, but then your teammates have no resources. Maybe you are inadvertently farming them off the hook so they don't actually get a chance to heal or reset.

I highly doubt you are doing 4 gens solo, running the killer for ages, saving everyone on hook, and then being left behind for a 3-man escape every single match and therefore incapable of winning a match without some extra component to the above being missing. To fit all of that in to a single match, your matches would have to last half an hour or longer.

My last game I did the first 3 gens entirely on my own. In that time 1 guy was literally crouched walking around the perimeter of the swamp, which I could see him doing periodically with Bond. I had to be the one to save everyone too. The killer found me at the end when I was finishing the last gen (which guess what I did myself) and he chased me around the entirety of the map stopping at any pallet I could find. It wasn't until minutes later when he got me that the last 2 survivors finally finished the gen I already had at 80% and they both just ran to the gates and left. I'm sorry you're too high and mighty and cynical to believe that this is reality but it is and guess what, I'm far from the only one who experiences this.

  • and the best part. if I don't escape? my mmr goes down. doesn't matter if I do 4 gens solo, doesn't matter if i loop the killer for 10 minutes. and they get to escape, and they get the mmr increase. ######### amazing.

    It's not that deep.

People need to turn off their computers/consoles and look around them, where real issues exist.

People want their game to be fun, if it isn't fun, they're gonna say something about it because they care. You're just negative

  • Stridor was never the problem, it was Spirit that was the problem

  • it depends, I've had games where survivors do absolutely nothing and I finish 3 gens solo before anyone does 1, even if nobody goes down

then i have games where the killer gets bodied and all 5 gens finish in 3 minutes

supposedly there is matchmaking in this game

Literally just play the game for survivor. It's extremely easy to get to rank 1 tbh. If your not the best at survivor, just keep playing and you'll get to rank 1.

Killer it's tougher. You need a build with some slowdown and a good killer for getting kills. Find a killer you like and get a good build on them. Personally feel like the best general build is:

    • Corrupt Intervention
    • Deadlock
    • No Way Out
    • Pop/Scrouge Hook

Certain killers like a different 4th perk I.e Demogorgan likes Save The Best For Last.

Gl mate and hope you get your 2 million 👍

thats a good build but personal preference i'd swap out pop for a tracking perk. pop is really hit or miss, nothing feels worse than running to a gen with pop active and it gets finished right in your face, which happens a lot. that build has no tracking perks, it would be a bit more well rounded with one

  • Nemesis is only worth playing if you like whipping people through safe pallets and don't care that you're gonna lose the game

  • @Gwinty said:

I think you are only reflecting the bad things here and this is just wrong. You should talk about the improvements that were made too to put this into a fair context.

    2021 also bought us:

    • Hook count for Killers (Allowing some to play for hooks far better)
    • Clown Rework (Still weak but now at least fun to play and face)
    • Trapper Rework, Add-on pass and Trap change (1/6 chance that increases)
    • Wraith Rework
    • Hex: Undying Nerf
    • Blight Point-of-View adjustment (made him a good killer)
    • Added colorblind mode
    • Decisive Strike nerf
    • Demogorgon changes (bought us the demoboy we love so much now)
    • Freddy nerf (was too much reward for too little skill)
    • Struggle change (no longer button mashing)
    • Key nerf
    • Failed Grab to basic attack change
    • Pallet and Dead Hard hit validation (yes we sometimes hate it but overall its more fair)
    • Pig add-on pass
    • Spirit "nerf" (honestly just "Spirit made fair and fun") + add-on pass (finally more than "stat buffs")
    • Snowman event

Also I liked the Cenobite. I am a huge fan of Hellraiser and Pinhead is a very good designed Killer in my opinion. He has the feeling, the sounds, has a interesting mechanic in chase that allows counterplay and is interactive and his passive gives a secondary objective that keeps survivors busy and not just playing M1 simulator.

Sure bad things also happened. But lot of good things were implemented too.

regarding the clown rework, i'm glad you see that as a positive. but clown is one of my favorite killers, since he came out, and the clown "rework", if you can even call it that, was severely disappointing. it made him more difficult to play (yellow bottles buff survivors for some dumb reason) and barely touched his addons. honestly the only good thing about the whole patch was the movement speed slowdown removal after throwing a bottle, but im pretty sure that wasn't even the rework patch, it was before. clown is still (the most fun imo but also stressful?) one of the worst killers in the game and you really have to sweat to get a good result with him

  • hate to be the downer here but people have been saying this since the beta iirc, honestly who knows if the devs will ever make the change, all we ever hear about things like this is a passing comment once a year

  • I mean this has pretty much always been the case for me, if I play 10 games a day at least half of them are ttv lobbies, most of the time though they aren't even streaming and haven't streamed in months

  • @lauraa said:

Itd be nice. I have no problems with any other exhaustion perk.

I like the other exhaustion perks, aside from Overcome they all require varying levels of planning and/or skill, especially ones like head on

  • Unpopular opinion, billy was boring as hell to play against. Playing against billy every 2 games and literally every time he's running no skill smoothbrain instasaw (killer main here, don't lie, instasaw was so easy anyone could pick up billy and 4k).

Yeah he didn't deserve to have the overheat crap added but the saw speed addons had to go.

  • People on the PTR claimed this would be "the patch that fixed solo survivor". I have hardly noticed that at all. It's a total clown fiesta, even moreso. Of course, my Killer games are all insanely sweaty maximum effort tournament finals level matches. SBMMR just doesn't work at all for me, personally. My killer games were already crazy competitive. I was hoping my survivor games would stop being me carrying 3 other easy ai bots.

  • The system is awful. My killer games are against top tier players. My survivor games are against top tier killers and bottom feeding garbage survivors.

  • @ThiccBudhha said:

Full meta? You mean... Pop? Lol... Green tier Pop.

I have a feeling you have plenty of room to go up in mmr.

I addressed this, if you can't be bothered to read the post I won't be bothered to take you seriously.

    @BingBongMan said:

MMR has been very hit or miss for my killers.

I feel like the system isn't doing something right. Sometimes I go against potatoes on my MAIN, who also happens to be billy. When I'm generally a good enough killer to where I shouldn't be encountering low skill players.

And other's I'll go against the 4 man swat team intent on making my experience as miserable as possible.

I've played enough matches to where my mmr on billy should have settled by now. But it just hasn't.

I actually main killer, so I know there are good survivors out there. I play against VERY sweaty teams when I play killer, they are all incredibly strong in chase, zero wasted time whatsoever and no dicking around.

  • My killer games haven't changed, they were already mostly 2 - 4 man SWF every single game, full meta, 4 gens done at 2 minutes type of games.

My survivor games have dramatically worsened. I made a thread about it. The game quality is so so bad, every killer I go against is well over 2k hours and a strong player while all my teammates are complete babbies, and I'm trying to say that respectfully. Some have less than 100 hours. Most don't even break 6k points at the end. A typical game is me having to save, get chased, do gens all by myself. Kindred is constantly active and just shows survivors running aimlessly in circles, like I can't even imagine what is going on in their minds just running running running, never to gens, never to get healed, never to do totems or chests, never to get saves, just running around the map. Are they doing cardio?

If I'm low MMR then why am I getting paired against high tier killer players who are effortlessly dominating my team mates?

  • @DawnMad said:

As a survivor I have been being matched with not very good survivors in my recent games. I want to believe MMR is working and this is because I haven't played much these last few months. I assumed it would get better as I play more but after a few games it was obvious that in a scenario where bad survivors face a bad killer, killer would nearly always get a 4k.

So here's my question, how is a survivor supposed to get past this when in most of their games its literally impossible to escape no matter how well they play? It seems like a pit you can only get out with a group, which feels like an issue.

It's impossible and a product of bad design. Due to BHVR refusing to show MMR in game, I suspect they are using a very awful system that forces good players to play with bad ones. Here's an example.

Killer is "5000" MMR. Survivor 1 is "6000" MMR. Now the matchmaking system needs to make adjustments, as the first survivor is already "too high" an MMR to be matched with the killer. So to compensate, it will add in a bunch of lower MMR players into the match, let's say "3000" MMR. So basically, because this is an asymmetrical game and this system is a horrible idea to use, if you are the 6K survivor you will likely realize that your team mates are all much, much worse than not only you, but also as the killer, because the system tried to balance you being in the game by adding weak players.

  • @Yankus said:

    Then go play something else.

Ironic that this statement gets upvotes like it isn't godawful advice, when Cote himself said "go play civilization" and was absolutely massacred by the community for such awful advice, even having to publicly apologize for saying it.

  • @Hannacia said:

I had really good time yesterday leveling my Pinboy. I had first really easy matches that were relaxed and i had time to practise and slowly as i got better i got better survivors that gave me challenge.

If it had been the old system i wouldnt have had good time at all since i would have gotten loopers and 4 people with meta perks all the time. I'm really glad i can now practise killers i don't play without being scared i get dead harded and decisive striked all the time

You have to understand that as Killer, if you're having "really easy matches" it means the survivors you are playing against are having really hard matches. That's why asymmetrical games like this are a nightmare to balance. And this is exactly what I'm on about.

  • Because BHVR doesn't want anyone to know just how poorly their systems are made. The last game I had, my other 3 team mates had less than 100 hours, I have over 1k, killer had over 2k. Killer was full meta, survivors in some cases didn't even have perks.

It's likely some awful system that does this:

    Killer MMR: 5000

    Survivor 1 MMR: 6000

Hmm, how are we going to evenly match this? Oh, I know:

    Survivor 2, 3 and 4 MMR: 100 each

    There. "Balanced".

  • At this point, it's been so many years I highly doubt they will ever so anything significant for Trapper. Maybe, just maybe one day in the next few years he'll get the long asked for +1 trap capacity baseline, but I sincerely doubt they will ever do much more than that. After all, they """reworked""" Billy and all that did was completely gut all of his addons and nerf his power.

  • I actually can't take this anymore. This has possibly been the worst experience I've had in DBD, ever.

Every single match is a Blight, Spirit, Nurse or Huntress running ruin/undying/pop/x with skins (sign of investment in game) powerful addons and clearly good at the game, all my team mates are shockingly bad. For instance I have over 1000 hours in the game, my last 3 team mates had LESS THAN 100. They were BRAND NEW to the game. They even admitted so, one of them claimed "I haven't played in around 6 months" and the rest only played "once in awhile over the years". The killer had over 2000 hours. This makes absolutely no sense.

Why am I getting paired against a top tier killer player but my team mates are practically brand new to the game? What kind of crappy game quality is this?

  • PC, I haven't had a single game where the game didn't abruptly end to "player was disconnected from host"

  • constant crashing and DCs, game breaking bugs like freddy getting stunned by his fake pallets, typical BHVR patch

  • @FengisKawaii said:

Don´t bank on bhvr to invest into optimisation, they haven´t done anything to improve the poor performance on console in the past 3 years.

And why would they? Nobody challenges them to be better. A couple forum posts a day are ignorable. Most people shell out for skins and new chapters and tomes like crazy regardless of how buggy or poor the game's health is. The subreddit for this game is a big fat meme, and these forums are just as hive-mindish. Most people here think the game is totally fine and pretty close to perfect.

It's a casual game is an argument. It's not hard to understand. A competitive game is taken seriously. The majority of the player base doesn't take this game seriously. There are people who want to treat this game like it's an esport, but it's not and never will be.

This is such a freaking yikes thought process I'm just gonna nope out of this thread.

  • @thrawn3054 said:

Because it's a casual game where most people are just screwing around.

    @syain said:

The lack of an actual efficient matchmaking and ranking system makes complaining about this sort of player really futile. People may have 700 hours without having put the effort to really learn anything about the game in more than superficial depth. Heck, I just got 1000 and I'd say my last 200 hours were more productive when it came to learning than the other 800 combined. Try to focus on what is under your control in order to keep your cool or else you're gonna go crazy, especially in solo queue. At the end of the day it's a casual game.

"It's a casual game" is not an argument. And this isn't a casual game, regardless of how you feel about it. It's a team based asymmetrical competitive game with ranked matchmaking. Not Stardew Valley.

Just because it doesn't have a 50 million dollar esports industry doesn't mean it's a casual game.

  • Hopefully Haddonfield. I say that, but they'll probably add a ton of god windows with mandatory breakable walls like every other exciting rework.

You do of you want to make it worth anything. Otherwise you get into situations where you find out that 3 people are roaching for saves instead of sitting on gens.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2317569#Comment_2317569

Matchmaking in this game is non-existent. The pip system makes hours and skill barely relatable.

You can get to red ranks by playing immersed and fishing for hatch. You can get to red ranks by being fed boosted aurvivors.

You're right but what I'm wondering is why someone with 1000 hours in another game is pretty good regardless of rank, but 1000 hours in this game there's still a 75% chance the player is worse than a bot.

  • Because, much like other parts of this game, it uses a 5 year old outdated system that doesn't work for the current version of the game. When you had 6 Killers it was fine. But now we have approximately 457 Killers and the devs just won't make any adjustments. I'm sure we'll get some sort of "soon" response in the next year, and have a better bloodweb in 2 - 3 years though. Sit tight!

You dont need communication to last 40 secs in a chase or do 1 gen

This, lack of communication doesn't cause a 600 hour survivor main to wander aimlessly for the first 3 minutes of the match.

  • I believe it makes you immune to the blind but not the stun.

  • @Blue_Archer33 said:

At his current state, Nemesis' zombies are a very minimal help. Granted that these zombies make up about half of his kit, the fact that zombies get MAYBE 1 or 2 hits each match (which is a generous guess) when used correctly, half of his kit super weak. I think that not only does the zombie AI need to be patched up, but should include either better stats or just a 3rd zombie.

    What do you all think?

1 or 2 hits PER MATCH? Jesus that would be nice. I get a zombie hit once maybe every 7 to 8 matches.

They disappeared because the survivor had Fixated or Urban Evasion, so they walk/sneak faster and leave no scratchmarks, or they had Poised, which stop leaving scratch marks when a gen is finished for a time. I think there are one or two more, but the most likely culprit is Poised.

No offense but I check for those perks and I haven't seen anyone use those at red ranks in months.
