Clown's rework is a buff and nerf at the same time, so nothing really changed tbh.

Buff: 2 sec less reload time

Nerf: Good add ons are gone (e.g. cigar box, exhaustion)

And his yellow pee bottles are completely ass, sry.

He is still fun to play and I really like his music. Maybe he is a weak killer but u can perform well with hin if u like him.

Never needed exhaustion bottles, and cigar box was useless before. Yellow bottles are actually extremely useful in some situations.

WARNING: This is an incredibly long post and there will be a tl;dr in the end in case you don’t want to go through the whole thing.

Context: I’m a Pig main that likes to run off meta perks on killers occasionally just for fun, like impossible skill checks doctor or anti-heal legion. I also prefer to play chill, such as doing my best not to tunnel and go for 12 hooks. In general I prefer to challenge myself with off meta builds and killers as well as trying my best to farm as much BP I can as well as getting 12 hooks. I’m from Brazil and I play in the South America server (which is a pretty toxic one).

A few weeks ago, I get into a lobby with 3 flashlights, so I equipped lightborn just for fun because I find it funny when survivors try to camp their teammates to get a flashlight save just to realize the killer has lightborn. Throughout the match I purposefully didn’t look at walls to allow survivors to go for the save, nodding my head when they failed to get it because I had lightborn. It turns out they were very skilled and still managed to get a 2 man escape through the exit gates, but I had a very fun time nonetheless and I did my best.

However, when I got into the endgame chat they began to BM me HEAVILY for using lightborn, saying that I was completely stupid for using it and that was essentially playing with only 3 perks. I tried to explain to them that I used it just for fun and said that they couldn’t complain since they were all using DS + UB and still managed to get 2 people killed. This didn’t work though, and they kept saying that using lightborn against flashlights is not fun, that I was scared of flashlights and didn’t know how to face a wall and claimed that they were obviously using DS + UB because they are meta perks.

The argument started to get progressively more heated and they wanted to bring the conversation to Discord. I accepted since I had plenty of free time that day and I wanted to understand how these people thought process worked. I discovered that they were actually a professional tournament squad and had already played in some minor tournaments before, so they had a lot of experience and skill in the game and claimed they weren’t taking the previous game seriously and were just trying to get some flashlight saves.

I began to explain to them that I like to challenge myself with weaker killers and off meta builds, and that I do my best to get 12 hooks and farm BP, sometimes even going easy on survivors so everyone can have a good time. I also explained that they couldn’t possibly determine what is fun and what is not since fun is subjective, and I’m the only one capable of judging if using off meta perks and playing in my own way is fun for me or not. However, they insisted that I was being stupid and that I HAD to use meta perks and meta killers if I wanted to have fun and win against a survivor team who is playing competitively. We talked and talked, more and more people started to join the conversation but it wasn’t leading anywhere, so they invited me to play a few matches where they would play super sweaty and prove me their point.

I accepted since I’m always up for a challenge even knowing that I can’t win it; I strongly believed that the experience would count. I played a few matches as Pig and Demogorgon (my favorite killers) and used my regular builds against them and I obviously got absolutely destroyed, since I’m not skilled enough as killer to win against a tournament squad, even though I’m decent player in general. They kept telling me that it was impossible for me to win against them and that I should use super strong killer perks and add ons if I wanted to stand a chance.

They began to tell me that I should do anything in my power to win, going as far as saying that I should tunnel and camp indiscriminately (even people with RBT on their heads) and use head pop add ons for pig (a.k.a Tampered Timer + Crate/Skech), which are strategies I freaking DESPISE, because I don’t find it fun neither for me nor the survivors (literally just down someone once and kill them through a head pop, WOW, so much fun). While they weren’t theoretically wrong, considering that they had tons more skill and experience than I did and were playing with tournament efficiency, they repeatedly told me that it wasn’t FUN not to use meta perks and killers and that I should play as sweaty as I can just to have FUN in the game.

It turns out that the games proved nothing to me, I simply couldn’t agree that I needed to play like a total shithead tryhard in every single game just to have fun. It seemed to me that these people cared only about winning at all costs, and every single strategy, perk or add on that doesn’t provide the upmost possibility to win are completely unacceptable in their eyes, and players who doesn’t equip themselves with tournament efficiency are stupid. I just couldn’t agree with them, so I just wrapped up the conversation and went to bed.

In the next morning I wake up to see a message from them saying “hey bro, have you changed your mind yet?”. I then proceeded to formally explain most points I listed above and the reasons why I didn’t agree with them, and the RESPONSE I GOT… Jesus, was truly something. One of them replied claiming stuff like:

“You need to understand that the game is balanced in a way that is made for the survivors to win, doesn’t really matter if you manage to win consistently against solo queue with crappy killers and perks, if you get queued against a good swf you WILL lose as long as they do gens and play efficiently. I don’t want to judge the way you play the game, but you just make life easier for the survivors for no reason…”

And then he said something that offended me quite a bit:

“To be honest I believe that you DID at some point use strong meta perks but are so bad that you kept losing even though you used them, so you started to play off meta so you could use “having fun” as an excuse if you lost the match, pfff, “having fun” by using #########!”

That’s right, the guy went as far as assuming that I played off meta just so I could use it as an excuse for playing bad (even though I clearly don’t). This offended me more than I think it should, and I them wrote a gigantic wall of formally written arguments explaining why I thought what he wrote was completely preposterous.

I said that fun is completely subjective and that they can’t possibly dictate the one and only way to have fun in DBD, that there is no problem being altruistic with your opponent and that everyone should play the way they want, and it doesn’t mean they are bad in the game. If only the meta perks and killers were the ones that provided fun for players then everything else would be pointless. That playing in a tournament level isn’t the one and only way to have fun in the game.

In general, I did agree with some of his points but I explained all of mine and why I think their point of view about fun is completely flawed in many aspects. But unfortunately, all they replied to me after that were emojis and stuff like “Meh, this guy is hopeless”. So after seeing that I wasn’t going to change those guys’ minds I just left the server altogether.

If there is a thing that I’ve learned through this whole experience is how corrupted some people got in this game. These people are the refined result of the ever-growing amount of victory thirsty players, devoid of empathy, where absolutely nothing else matters but winning. It was pretty sad seeing such a reality. I believe I’ve never seen @NomiNomad post about how the lack of empathy is holding this game back become so relevant through only one experience.

TL;DR: I used lightborn in a match with 3 flashlights; the survivors started flaming me for using it; it turns out they were a tournament swf team and they decided to bring the conversation to Discord; they begin to tell me that using lightborn is stupid and that I should be using meta perks to win; I say that I used it for fun; they said that it isn’t fun and I was stupid for thinking that way and that I should still use meta perks; they invite me to play several matches to prove their point; I get stomped on all of them since they played on a tournament level, but I still said that I should not be forced to play in the meta to have fun in this game; they claim that I should indiscriminately tunnel, camp and use op perks and add ons if I want to stand a chance against strong swf teams and that this is the only way to have fun in the game; I disagree with them and go to sleep; the next day they asked me if I have changed my mind and I say that I didn’t and explained my reasons not to; they then replied with a somewhat rude text going as far as insulting me and assuming things that weren’t true; I then posted a formal wall of text explaining my points and why I think fun is subjective and shouldn’t be limited to playing in a tournament level; they reply with emojis and say that I’m hopeless; I realize I can’t change their mind and leave the server; I come to the conclusion how lack of empathy and an ever growing voracity for winning is affecting more and more players and consequently ruining the game.

I still think tournaments in dbd are absolutely pointless.

Clowns greek knife is honestly his best designed knife in my opinion. It really does suck that you can't use it without using the set which is pretty ugly in my opinion. It's not terrible, but if we gotta be honest all of his other outfits look much better.

Same the flower crown is amazing, but the dress is actually horrible, and I can't stand it. I think that goes the same for everyone, because since the cosmetic glitch I've seen ton of kates with the flower crown on, because it looks perfectly fine with any other outfit.

Same I really like to mix and match from other cosmetics all the time. Like the hades clown knife would look really good with the downtown fair chest, and the hallowed blight face together, but I still for the life of me can't figure out why some of these things are linked still, and I'm sure it isn't that hard to unlink some of these pieces.

While I would have preferred horrific circus music similar to Mr Envy's fanmade one, I can not deny that this is absolutely amazing chase music, perhaps the best in the game by far, in my opinion. I really would like to see more Killer's getting a strong clear sounding chase music that makes the player go: "Yep, that's the X Killer alright".

Currently, many killers have got their own chase music, but I can not really distinguish any of them because they sound so similar to one another, well perhaps Pyramid Head is an exception. The clown is the first killer with chase music that I am able to recognize the moment I hear it, and it's so spine-tingling. Great work BHVR!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CJmKbzy9GQ&ab_channel=MrEnvy

Mr envy's chase theme is way better coming from a clown main. It sounds a lot more smoother than the one added. Mainly killer pov is so good.

Closing gaps super quickly in between loops. Mainly against the hold w gamers.

Believe me his new power isn't bad, but after 8 hours of play today. I thought it was going to be bad, but it's actually extremely good. It closes gaps super quickly with duration addons.

  • @onemind said:

Literally what I said in my day 1 conclusions of this update

Clowns new bottles are negligible a 10%increase to movement speed after 2.5s in Scots video talking about 110vs 115 killers that movement was a .8s difference in about 12s so if we take that difference and double it you are saving about 10 m in all four bottels (10 is an estament because the time it lasts )then you have to reload so you lose all that distance you just put all 4 bottels into

You don't use them to travel places. You have to use them in chase. I caught up to people across the map in a matter of seconds because I would throw the bottle 3 seconds ahead of time, and I would be throwing pinks at them. There was nothing they could do.

  • @NoOneKnowsNova said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1929291#Comment_1929291

Before there were too many constraints imo, especially that alot of the loops were much safer where Clowns bottles wouldn't help at all. Additionally the middle being much more open allows for better pressure than before.

There was barely any constraints. All the pallets were easy to win on with him. The 2 pallets by bathroom and the one up top that went around forever other than that the rest of them were pretty easy to mindgame with.

  • @NoOneKnowsNova said:

It seems it's one of his strongest maps now too. Small so it's easy to pressure, and he can hit the roof to spread his gas.

It's always been that way lol.

I agree I feel like I can't see anything properly. It literally hurts my eyes, and I always use shadowborn too.

  • @onemind said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1928595#Comment_1928595

He has always had a good anti loop but his map pressure was almost the worst like bubba can one shot basically cutting the chase in half legion can injure your entire team while haveing a speed boost huntress death slinger and Michael can get you off a gen just by looking at you and the others have a way shape or form to deny an area via traps I'm saying the only killers that are worse than him at map pressure is trap based killers and ph can save time via cage and there always the threat of getting hit through a wall clown dosent have any of any of those

Clown has good map pressure even before buff. You just need to know how to use him right. If people split up on generators then like most killers will suffer from that fact. You were already able to deny an entire loop if you know how to split the bottle on the loop area where it covered it evenly which is incredibly difficult, and only a very select few clown players know how to do it like that. It took me hundreds of hours learning how to split bottles right on loops. His denial of area effect was already strong. Most people just don't know how to use him right. Sure he could have room for improvement even after buff, but he was never bad.

I thought everyone already tested it on the PTB and everyone said it sucked.

It doesn't suck but it isn't the best. I just wish that they would remove the survivors being able to get the effect even it means toning down the speed boost slightly.

  • @OniWantsYourMacaroni said:

Maybe we should wait like until some time after the mid chapter drops?

I'm still not sure whether these new bottles will be super helpful BUT i feel like this is a change that you need to test yourself before you're able to judge it.

I didn't see any content creator doing any specific testing either,so there's that

They will be super helpful against hold w gamers. Time the bottle properly and you will catch up in no time. I don't see them being useful in actual loops though. I tested it myself on ptb, and it honestly just seemed so much better to just use pinks like per usual. I find the weirdest spots to throw bottles where it covers most or the entire loop. So in general the yellow bottles will just be best off to handle the people who like to hold w in my opinion.

You think survivor times will get short since DS can't get abused anymore and that'll give people a reason to not fear playing killer? Possibly.

Survivors still win if they sit on gens the entire game and don't let go no matter what. Me and my friend were playing last night, and we were just aggressively sitting on generators even with mediocre teammates we would still win pretty much every time, by just hammering out generators. DS isn't the underlining problem here in my opinion

If I see a key I just slug at 5 gens I don't even care about their fun if they are gonna bring the most op stuff in the game all at once.

  • You're gonna get dunked on a lot as a new player. It's what happens. I did too when I first started. Now I win 99% of my games without gen regression even against hardcore swf's. My suggestion is to literally take off noed and the iridescent addons and play without crutch perks or items. Believe me you'll improve faster that way. People get use to crutchy perks or items to win the game, and they never improve.

  • @AggressiveFTW said:

You can sometimes hear the survivor screaming but not get slowed down, when are they going to fix this issue?

There's a few issues with clown right now, and that's one of them. Also some bottles glitch out on the reworked maps ceilings, and they will not spread out like the gas is suppose to. Mainly happening on the new killer shack designs. There is some problems they need to fix with him.

  • @Grimmy_Bluues said:

Yeah, the changes feel very unnecessary since they didn't change what needed changes.

That would certainly be better than what we have now, honestly doing that and allowing PotD to apply torment would land him in a very good spot.

Bad idea, because that literally will promote more tunneling than majority of PH players already do.

  • She needs something, because right now she is buggy and her power barely works half the time, and she is boring to play against, and incredibly clunky to play as.

  • @BabyCameron10 said:

Let’s be honest, they make playing killer a horrible experience. They hide throughout the entire game and are the ones to Tbag at the exit gates. Like, bro you just hid the whole game.

As when playing survivor, they are the worst as well. They will save in front of the killer without borrowed time and don’t even bother taking a hit. This encourages killers to tunnel. The killer ends up finding a survivor that has been unhooked recently and this leads to tunneling because they can’t find no one else and Stealthy survivors don’t bother taking the agro.

Don’t get me wrong, it can be a good method to get away from the killer but playing like this is fun? The Devs should definitely consider making a perk for survivors that have not been seen by the killer, have their aura revealed.

What are your guys thoughts on stealthy players?

Rather deal with stealth players than players that split up on gens, and hardcore that generator at all costs.

Ether 15 is okay but the other two are pretty bad. Makeup kit and bleach is a personal favourite and cork stopper is an honourable mention

Ether 15 is actually pretty strong combined with flask of bleach, but the most reliable addons are flask and yellow reload addon at this moment. It most likely will stay this way even after buff. 2 second reload + the slowdown will be extremely effective. More bottles to throw quicker chases to end, but the majority of your chases you should be able to get 2 downs before reload, but it all depends on the map.

  • Throwing bottles on objects like trees etc are your best friend with clown. Indoor maps if a person is trying to loop throw a bottle on the ceiling. If they are holding w try to throw a bottle in front of them if you can't just throw a bottle on top of them. I'm going to be posting a video here soon about clown using variety of maps to show his ability to stop loops insanely fast. Flask of bleach and the yellow reload addon are the best addons for him in my opinion! :)

  • I love playing killer, and going against an obvious swf you go to a gen after you hook someone and see them on bbq and they are long gone by the time you get there it's pretty great feeling.

Definitely agree!!! Every match i play as killer there is at least one key. I have over 75 saved up on any given survivor because i know how cheap they are and i want to have a normal match not a match where the killer is stressing over the guy with the key. Also i Think if they added more time to the broken key it would alleviate some of the nonsense as 5 seconds of use is trash with the skeleton key gives 30. Just saying I know it won't help in the end cause survivors like to abuse the crap out of op things, but it would be great for me to be able to use a Blood amber or the addon that lets you see other survivors for longer without having to use a bs ITEM.

I agree also broken key should be a different appearance like actually broken so the killer can see the difference, because people will bring broken keys and still get tunneled or the killer is stressed out, because you can't tell the difference.

Never gonna join that club, because I enjoy proper sportsmanship regardless if it's a video game or not. Just wish the community wasn't as bad as it is. The killers even get paranoid. I know this is depressing so i decided to write a killer that he did a good game. He said: "i wasn't tunneling you guys just weren't that good". Damn, i was just trying to give some good vibes instead.

He let me go after hook and decided to hunt an other one. How would i come to calling him a tunnler?

The survivors could mind teamplay instead. For example if a killer is tunneling it's most time the survivors fault. They do a rescue if you just turned your back. Sad for the hooked one because he's dying instead of the one who grabbed it. (Btw. If you hunt the other one instead and they escape you are a noob. That was the moment i started tunneling as killer.)

A real problem is how the hits are dealed. sometimes i get hits which are really out of this world :D and i know killers think the same. It's too easy for them. They should make times on gen longer instead. It's maybe harder to escape but for me it's not escaping i want to have fun during a hunt.

It's most likely because of the fact that killers get called tunnelers all the time even if they aren't tunneling. That's the problem so killers automatically assume the person is being sarcastic because of the amount of toxicity killers get whenever they play the game, but there are nice survivors. It just seems like how often survivors leave a sour taste in the killer players mouth about the rampant amount of toxicity that is never dealt with. I do agree most of the time the tunneling is the survivors fault, but there are times where it's a hardcore tunnel which results in the round being lost for the killer.

Literally just stop taking it to your emotions and literally understand you're all playing a videogame. What they say or don't say has no merit.

And to add, by far the LEAST toxic game I ever played lol. (Counterstrike, rainbow six, league of legends, cod4, etc)

I don't look for validation or anything. I just try to be nice, but it seems like it will backfire in this community, because people can't appreciate anything, but instead complain because of their mistakes. Instead of fixing their mistakes, they much would rather pin point the problem on someone else rather then themselves. I don't know I've played games way more longer than dbd I have 1300 hours in, but the old cod days most of the toxicity was banter and fun, and a lot of the older games before companies started cracking down on toxicity and actually banning people for it. DBD it's legitimate toxicity over people just messing around. I think I've been called every name in the book on this game, and told to jump off a cliff etc... You get the idea, but it's legitimate over banter. I think that's a serious problem. It doesn't hurt my feelings at all, but at the same time it's just like why do it.

I'm a survivor and they never stop flaming. They even flame each other. I block them. All of them. I'm not playing to be target of them having a bad day.

They are just angry. I will never understand why. This flaming is completly destroying the game. Exspecially for killers. If you play good you're a tunnler if you play bad you're a noob.

To camp three gens is absolutely legitimate. It's their fault if they do all gens in the same region.

I've had a lot of times where survivors flame each other, but it's like they much would rather flame the killer instead, because they just aren't very good at the game I.E compared to the killer or their skill level is still low. Which is the majority of players, so they would rather resolve the problem by blaming their team or the killer.

You don't need to kick any pallets as clown if you know what you are doing.

  • I don't know. I just had a nea complain to me about giving her hatch, because apparently my playstyle sucked, and I was a boring killer. Survivors complain about everything. At this rate nothing surprises me in this game anymore.

Something scary. Something that can attack from surprising angles and locations. Maybe leap off objects or walls or cling to them or something. Crawling around in the corn.

    Xenomorph would be so good.

I have not once seen any of the killers at red ranks use that perk.

I do at rank 1 on all my killers. I'm addicted to it.

I'm relatively inexperienced in this game, but so far I'm finding that I prefer the killers that rely on basic attacks. Might just be because I suck at the game, but for most killers I've tried, I find I do better if I don't use their power, or use it for specific reasons. For example, I've been playing trying Oni because I think his character design is awesome, but I'm completely trash with downing anyone with his power. A lot of times when I use his power I actually miss all the attacks which gives survivors more time to get away than if I had just M1ed. Same thing happened back when I tried clown. The bottle either wouldn't hit or more likely just seemed to have little effect while I slowed myself down to throw it.

I use Oni's power basically to traverse the map so that I can m1 and check hooks at this point. It also makes people afraid to go for saves and funnels them into the desired area. I've been considering Myers, Legion, or Ghostface since I'm better when M1 attacking, but I'm willing to consider others. I'm still going to keep practicing Oni, but am looking for someone else to play to break up the monotony. Who do you all consider to be a fun basic attacker? I'm on PS5 by the way since I know some killers can be a nightmare on controller.

Clown is the most fun m1 in my opinion. If you learn bottle placements. You will end chases extremely quickly there won't be much they can actually do about it.

I'm getting hit around corners, through walls and to the right and left of windows.

Yea, and when I play huntress sometimes my hatchets literally hit the person, and see blood splatter but no down or injure. Sometimes they will literally just go right through the person. So it's both ways. Not just one way.

You are full health and you know the killer has no noed. You know he needs to hit you twice. There is no risk involved for you. Maybe the killer doesnt let you unhook, thats ok. But i doesnt hurt to look for an oppurtunity.

Whats the reason that this people leave immediately?

I was playing survivor earlier, and I did all the work. Got like 5 unhooks, did multiple gens. Got chased for a good amount of time. Killer was nowhere near me once I finally got caught. Claud thought it was a good idea to just leave me instead, when she wouldn't last in chase for like 10 seconds. Thankfully I kobe'd and made it out. Some people are just horrible players, and have no strategy at all.
