  • I'll miss him too. Very enthusiastic about gen teleport, but I wish old version could somehow stay available.

  • Risk when you're already injured. I went down countless times because I was worried there's a trap on the other side of a vault, so I took a route where he could easily catch up to me.

  • Get the PTB. I found some insanely well hidden totems on Badham. Even after Small Game sound, I spent about a full minute to even find it (within two concrete blocks, which we had seen before, but in this case, it was covered from the top as well).

I have high hopes for the gradual improvement of totem spots. They'll never be 100% impossible to find, you should come to terms to that. But from what I've seen in PTB, they are getting better.

  • The whole concept of balancing game around low ranks is wrong. My guess is, high ranks spend more on DLC-s, and probably skins as well. Second, we're better people.

    Ok, we're not.

But most importantly: it doesn't matter (much) how games turn out on low ranks. With more casual and inexperienced players, games are full of delightful potatoness, so outcomes are completely random. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed my time as a newbie a lot, regardless of dying game after game; any sane person would know not to expect winning often when he/she is still new to the game. But once someone has played enough to know the game mechanics, perks, abilities, strategies, bla bla, that's when the game has to be more carefully balanced.

Can't give devs too hard a time for minor balance issues: with the huge variety of killers, maps, etc it's just never going to be "perfect". But it doesn't mean devs shouldn't at least keep trying to achieve some semblance of balance. It's absurd that on higher ranks we have one balanced killer, and the rest is up to survivors' mercy.

The problem is that you are a "completion-ist". Just enjoy the game and have fun, you don't have to stress yourself out over some pesky achievements.

Nah, @RoKrueger , maybe you're different, but some of us have an irresistible urge to just have all them achievements done, including the one "farm other survivors off the hook then take a hit like an idiot 250 times". It's probably that some of us don't have any RL achievements, so we have to settle for that :) Whatever the reason, it feels good to have them all.

  • I'm with you on that, but it will only happen when dedicated servers will be live. Until then: play SWF, or just hope your fellow survivors are not DC chickens.

  • Friend, you can't tell other people how to play. He is by no means obligated to rescue you. He wanted to survive, the safest way to do that is letting you die, once there's only two of you.

  • You said it yourself: do them after rank reset. Annoying how a lot of unique perks do not work well with the killer they belong to, but there's always a chance you get some potato survivors. Heck, I even managed to do it with Huntress, despite being the worst Huntress ever. Patience, and good luck!

  • Oh right, if the automatic consumption of the second perk were to be removed, that'd be nice.

  • It would result in an ever crazier grind: now, with clever planning you can have the Entity consume a lot of useless items. Really, I hate spending thousands of BP on crap like Murky Reagent or Award Winning Chili, only because I HAVE TO...

Although I'd appreciate if she stopped eating my goddamn cakes...

  • Isn't this the whole point of his design? Years of heavy sleep deprivation take their toll...

  • Rank up. Higher rank killers know they shouldn't camp all the time, as it is a losing strategy.

Also, review your definition of camping. Killer standing at your hook with no intention of leaving is camping. Killer searching for or chasing others, and the same time, regularly paying you a visit is NOT camping.

  • @darktrix said:

When killers go up against a pack of randoms and annihilate them, everything is balanced to them. They say it's the survivors' fault for not working as a team. When the survivors a swf and work as a team, then these same killers cry swf is unfair.

@darktrix I wouldn't go so far as to claim all killers ignore the woes of solo survivors. But you're onto something. We killers also have our biases, and most of us can't transcend them. Games can be tough for solo survivors: sometimes it's enough to have one idiot in the group who refuses to do gens, or instantly unhooks others, costing the whole game to all four of them. Killer role used to be a nightmare, but at this point, finally, it's not always the case. Lot of complaints from all sides, sometimes reasonable, sometimes not. But mostly it all comes down to who brings the stronger builds, items, and maybe most importantly, which map do we get.

I don't think there is any other approach than accepting that both as survivor and killer, sometimes we have an easy ride, sometimes a game can be insanely tough. Being conscious about it helps a lot with frustration: I'm much more satisfied with a 2K against a well organized SWF group, than with obliterating a whole coterie of aimless solo survivors, stumbling through a game without a clue.

Anyone here knows the card game "Bridge"? In professional bridge, scores are not simply registered on your points in a round, but the hand you were dealt is also taken into consideration. Or another example, I think if you go to some club in Japan where they play Go, first, they sit you down to play against the most experienced player. Then, judging from your performance in that game, they assess your skill level, and based on that, they give you a certain advantage in any game later, if you're playing against someone who is recognized as above your skill. This is not a condescending gesture, rather, it's a common understanding that games are much more fun if everyone has a decent chance.

That's why I think we should see if someone joining are lobby are SWF or not, and maybe even their ranks. That way we would know how mean a build we should use. Of course, this would also require an attitude change. Some killers would just dodge SWF or high ranking players, some survivors would derank on purpose, and so on.

TLDR: SWF is not really balanced, but the game itself isn't either. Don't get too worked up about it.

    Sorry for wall of text.

Among all the streamers, YouTube's and Fog Whisperers the one I respect the most is definitely Tru3

I don't take everything he says as the holy grail but he's the one that makes some good points about the balance of the game and he's a pretty good player, not the best but he's still pretty good

I generally don't listen to influencers' opinions, it's much better to play and learn how to think for yourself

He's the one who annoys me the most. Not sure why, nicest guy in the world. Maybe exactly because of that. Either that, or the hat.

  • @DBDbuildsYT

"ok I understand your point, still where else do you want to go to understand more about the balance of the game if not watching people with 1000's of hours in the game?"

Reading the views of other players with sufficient experience, right here in this forum or elsewhere. One needs to discard those posts written out of anger of course, but reading half a dozen balance discussions is worth more than listening to a single streamer. And playing, obviously. A few thousand hours, playing both sides, and a little willingness to put aside our own biases is the best way to get the "big picture".

Anyway, I did go a little overboard. Not sure why some streamers, even 100% non toxic ones annoy me so much sometimes.

  • @thomasnut I don't have much to add there, well said. (Especially about computer rambos)

@Talmeer to my experience, Germans are BY FAR the nicest players ever. I have honestly never seen a German player insulting, harassing, humiliating others. I'm sure there are some, but literally any other country has more trolls than Germany. I love Germans.

  • @DBDbuildsYT said:

@George_Soros Tru3, Ozarka, Tofu, they are all very talented players and they all play at the highest possible ranks in the game, I don't see why you are dissing them. Can you produce video evidence of you being better than them?

    @DudeDelicious

@DBDbuildsYT I didn't say I'm better than them. Some of them are good, some of them are somewhat overrated (by themselves and by their followers), but I don't even hold it against them. Being good at a video game... umm, not exactly an achievement. For me, "talent" is something like being able to fix a washing machine, write a book, cut out your appendix without you dying, and so on. That's why cockiness annoys me. I'm really not about comparing penis sizes with them. And as I said, the other thing is how a fanboy attitude clouds the judgement of people sometimes.

For fairness, I have to say I learned quite a few things from a number of streamers. So I don't REALLY hate them, it's just that I while appreciate their entertainment value, I don't give a flying toss about how "skilled" they are in the game, especially since DBD is RNG for the most part.

  • @thomasnut toxicity is necessary. A player is either the kind who likes purposefully annoying others, they'll be more loyal to the game if they can do it. Then there's the other kind, who hates trolls, but then again, these players enjoy destroying trolls, or watching someone destroying them.

It adds to the drama. We all hate Ochido, but we need him, because we need someone to hate.

I think their value is spreading awareness of the game's existence.

I also don't think anything else of content creators, i'd rather just play.

That's true, I wouldn't even have bought the game if not for those awesome Youtubers' videos (Password is: "no commentary"). I don't care much about them either, except when they're brought up as "proof" to support some ridiculous demand for buffs/nerfs/free beers or anything.

  • NOT getting bored of a game after thousands of hours: that's pathological. "Burning out" is healthy. No game offers enough variety for a lifetime, and the best part is when you figure out things. Once you've more or less mastered it, it's a downhill journey, and you should find something else.

  • For the longest time, I've wanted a set of new secret offerings, that spawn 1/2/3 extra dull totems on the map. Would be interesting, plus, the game needs more secret offerings so losers don't DC so often whenever they see a hidden one.

  • @ScottJund and @miaasma yea lol like I said, I exaggerated a bit.

Even so, the painfully sweaty attempt of 90% of them to be seen as "masters of DBD" is a laugh. I mean, TrueTalent (God, even the name is cringy) tosses fancy words around ("optimal play", "momentum", "map pressure"... I know these are valid terms but excessive use of it betrays their motives), Otzdarva, who actually is a good player, but such a cocky smartass, Monto, who's at least obnoxious enough to be funny, but feels he has to read up his whole load all the time (thanks buddy, we can read, and know that stuff already anyway), and the list could go on. Just stop.

Or maybe I'm just a hater. Yeah that's probably it.

  • @miaasma one very typical mindgame is what you do against Spirit. She phases, you try to guess where she goes, she tries to guess where you go. Do you go for the pallet? Do you double back? Do you go for that obvious vault? It's an exciting game, actually. You have to observe how she plays, and try to succesfully guess, based on her last moves and general playstyle. That IS the counterplay. And of course there's pallet looping for those loooong periods when her power is in cooldown.

I agree a lot of times it just comes down to blind luck, like any guessing game. But I don't think saying "she's got no counterplay" is right.

  • Here's one favourite of mine:

    DOCTOR

    perks:

    -NOED

    addons:

    (none)

    offering:

    (none)

I usually change my Steam name to "NOED LIKE A PRO!!!". It's wonderful. Also, a good testing tool to see if survivors still whine about NOED, even when that's all I have. (Usually I'm pleasantly surprised, most of them does not.)

  • @[Deleted User] said:

    I mostly agree.

I’m guilty of only uploading my best (or most entertaining) matches.

I wouldn’t say their opinion is useless though. Being prepared to experiment with perk builds and possibilities always leads to deeper insight into this game.

@DudeDelicious yea I was exaggerating a bit in the heat of my rant. Still, treating these guys and their words as gospel is terribly silly.

  • Unnecessary, and suspiciously close to Fortnite. We don't want to go there.

  • Some notions, most of these have been thrown around a bunch.

    - SWF is not going to go away, people like playing with their friends, and there is nothing to prevent players from using Discord.

    - There are ways to deal with the huge advantage coms give an organized group: Nurse, maybe Billy or Spirit with strong addons.

    - Most of us killers don't want to play OP killers and builds all the time. But once we hit red ranks, we have to.

    - Balancing the game in a way that it's fair to solos, SWF and killers is impossible.

    - Ranked vs casual mode is not really an option, if both give BP everyone will play casual, if only ranked does, everyone will play ranked. Separating SWF and non SWF lobbies is even less doable: survivor queues will take forever.

I think the best approach is to mark people who join your lobby as SWF. Give killers the information so we know what we're up against. If it's four solos, I'll be happy to take Clown or Doc with brown addons. If it's a 3-4 SWF group, then I get my omega Nurse.

  • I think I only missed a few in the past year. But I agree with what most people here are saying, rewards are a joke.

  • Fun idea. It wouldn't have to be a loud sound effect that actually deafens you. Also, it should be something that is not linked to the power or attack of the killer.

    Here's one perk idea:

Survivors gradually lose their hearing during the course of the game, an effect that can be mitigated by cleansing dull totems. For every 50 seconds into the game sounds for survivors become 20% quieter. For every cleansed dull totem, the maximum level of deafness (100%) is reduced by 20%.

Probably wouldn't work perfectly like this, it's just a quick idea. But I love the potential psychological effect deafness has on players.

  • @Sushi_x2099 you shouldn't. Ebony mori is dirty and easy mode, but it's still kind of a chicken thing to DC because of it. Besides, it can be a number of other offerings. You're wasting other people's time by DC-ing during loading screen.

  • Almost every day. Haven't missed more than 4-5 dailies in the past twelve months.

    Worrying.

  • What rank are you? In purples I very rarely see this kind of thing. Survivor being chases bringing the killer to where I'm hooked happens more often, but these brainless insta unhooks are very rare.

    Are you on console maybe?

  • Fair.

    Next question?

@George_Soros Gonna be a wonderful day when the forums are flooded with "I was banned for no reason!" threads.

@se05239 I can't wait :) If it comes to pass, I'll celebrate and show my appreciation by buying some stupid and expensive cosmetic.

But, on a more somber note: guys like this will probably just suicide on first hook...

  • Frankly I don't understand why someone spends money on cosmetics. They're pointless. The only reason to buy any (for real money) is to support BHVR, but then of course one would not ask for a refund. And those bought by Iridescents, well, don't look a gift Maurice in the mouth.

Btw, BHVR is insanely consumer friendly. This forum right here is a proof, they listen to our requests, tolerate our tantrums, try to tweak and balance their game to satisfy the highest possible number of people. Not that they don't make mistakes, but compare this with early video game industry: you buy the CD/DVD whatever, and that's it. If it's buggy, a patch may or may not come out. If it's multiplayer, but terribly imbalanced... well, tough luck. So... yea, they do a lot to please us, it's just that our expectations are very high, and most of us have a tendency to notice the bad and take the good for granted.

But I'm sidetracking. My point is, who cares about cosmetic changes?

  • And @Lucistic, it's really a bad idea. Camping is one way to play the game. Often it's stupid and boring, but not always. Banning for it is a very bad idea. Basically you want to decide where the killer must and must go and be. I'm sorry, but everyone is free to play any way they want, if they're not cheating.

There are great perks that help against campers too. Above all, Borrowed Time, but Kindred is useful too. You can't expect devs to punish killers (they already do, but they can only go so far). You have to punish them yourself.

  • @Twinbros said:

I usually just DC if I get into a camping game. Faster to find a new game without a ######### killer

@Twinbros you, my friend, are exactly what's wrong with this game. This "I don't give a ######### about my fellow survivors, as soon as things don't go the way I like, I'm ready to screw them over".

God I can't wait for dedicated servers and the mass banning of players like you. Hope BHVR will finally prove serious about it. Crossing fingers...

  • I think OP is onto a real problem here. Whenever I'm in a masochistic mood and play a weaker killer in red ranks, 90% of the time the game goes down like this:

    • no Ruin: genrush, 3-4 escapes.
    • Ruin spawning in a bad spot: gets cleansed within 60 seconds, genrush, 3-4 escapes.
    • Ruin spawning in a lucky spot: slowed gen progress or a lot of repair time lost when survivor look for it, 2-4 kills.

None of these three outcomes are in any way due to skill or lack of it, by me or by survivors. Pure luck. And I actually appreciate the honesty of idanasd149 when he says he has no clear idea how to fix this. It doesn't mean the problem is not there.

  • OoO just adds to the somewhat unfair advantage comm using SWD have. Still, it is not gamebreaking, just something that makes your job harder. I'd say the way to fix it is: one, give killer the ability to see survivor when looking towards them, two: disable it both ways, when killer is using a stealth power (Wraith, Pig, Ghostface).

  • 1/ Pop Goes The Weasel activating after last gen is repaired

2/ People suiciding on first hook

3/ As survivor: cocky teammates who think Urban Evasion is for noobs

  • @Broosmeister said:

    I masturbate

    @Broosmeister I'm not alone then.

Do you also fantasize about Mathieu while you're at it?

  • @Steve0333 said:

Just keep in mind that majority if not all of them are immature kids who live with their parents. I mean if you're over 21 and leaving nasty comments to people online, you seriously need to grow up, that's just embarrassing.

But kids are stupid. Extremely stupid. Nothing will change that. The older you get the more you realize it.

    @Steve0333

" I mean if you're over 21 and leaving nasty comments to people online, you seriously need to grow up, that's just embarrassing."

But what if they started it??!!!

  • If by "toxicity" you mean bullying, insults in chat, then yea, it makes me angry. Which is good. Makes me more dedicated to go tryhard, and that's the most fun way to play.

  • As killer, not necessarily, although once you got your 4 BBQ stack you may try to let them repair and get out, so you can start another game soon. I don't think it's more BP efficient than just continue playing and eating their souls.

As for survivor, I think it's much more efficient to max out your Objective points with Prove Thyself early game, then save some people for WGLF stacks, but don't get too carried away with it, just do some chases, pallet stuns, max out Boldness then die. It's probably much faster: you can play two such games by the time you'd successfully escape for a meagre 5000 Survival points.

Only problem is, you might get tempted to suicide on first on second hook. The way I see it, it's just as bad as a DC, only we don't talk about it so much.

  • I want a map that is a stuck elevator, with jammed doors. Killer would spawn in the middle, Survivors near the sides, at least 0.5 m from the killer, for fairness.

  • Yeah: as much a I hated the original MoM, this new one just doesn't make sense. Like with the "Taking One for the Team" achievement: extremely silly, since taking hits from a killer while he's carrying is a bad idea 90% of the time. Again, I don't want to see old MoM or anything like it coming back, but a tiny improvement may not be such a bad idea.

Although, it may still work out if you take a medkit with lots of charges or if you have legendary juking skills, I don't know.

  • All I'd want is to get more BP for the perks I already own.

  • Just make a stealthy Hatch build. Do what you can with repairs and rescued, but don't be too altruistic... and scoop out the hatch in time.
