If you want to rank up, you must avoid camping (which I'm ok with), but also, must actively do steps to prevent survivors dying on first or second hook. It's ridiculous, but in endgame if I got two survivors are left with still 2-3 hooks in them, I usually down both, hook one, pick up and drop the other until they get free and unhook, down the unhooker, hook him, down the other again, and so on, until their sweet death. It actually sucks for them too (although I try to give them enough time to ge their Safe Rescue score at least). It's basically cheesing the system.
Killer pip system simply doesn't recognize that even if you slug four survivors, then hook 'em all and they all die on their first hook, you did great, and should rank up. "Hook actions" score requirement is silly. Hillbilly particulary suffers from BHVR's sweaty attempt to force players to play nice.
I'm not so up in arms about this myself (I like getting to rank 1, so I use Nurse every month until I get there, then start using my favourite killers: Clown, Doc, Trapper, and inevitably derank). But it's true that the current pip system does not very much reflect killer's skill.

Guy callled friendlykillermain had this topic I think... "How long can we keep this discussion alive". A horribly spammy topic too.
Quality always beats quantity.
-
I'm sure they test content prior to PTB. Not enough, apparently, but I don't think they can afford to hire testers by the hundreds. And with so many changes in each patch, chapter, paragraph, rework, etc, there's bound to be a significant numbre of bugs and other issues.
There's probably another reason too: many players like contributing to the development of new content. It offers us a chance to
hysterically cryvoice our constructive criticism. -
I don't think the devs are willing to give out accurate details of how they handle bans in general. Theoretically, you can get personally banned, meaning if you make a new account (even if on a different platform), but they realize it's yours, it can get banned. I believe that's what happened to Ochido. I'm guessing it does not work with EAC automatic bans.
(I can't stress enough, I'm doing guesswork here!)
At any rate, don't do stuff that can get you banned. I doubt they're gonna put a lot of effort to hunt you down if you make a new account, so you can probably dodge that way, unless you're high profile and making a lot of noise. But at any rate, you have to be extremely nasty or a very dedicated hacker to get a permanent ban. Just don't be any of these.

No.

(From an interview with the dev who designed Ghostface)
Interviewer: "So, did you know in Dead By Daylight survivors have a third person view, meaning they can move the camera independently from their character's actual facing?"
Dev: "Oh for real? Wow that's so cool, thanks for telling me!"
-
@NoShinyPony well goddamn. Apparently I have become one of those arseholes who don't bother reading more than the first sentence of the OP. Embarrassing.
-
@poopman kinda agree, except the part where they should hire a streamer. Come on, most streamers (popular or not) are cocky, self important potatoes.
-
I'm tunneling as much as possible already, so the answer is no. Tunneling is great.
-
I know it's not a primary concern, but I recently went to visit my mom. Went down to her basement to get some gardening tools for her, and, just out of scientific curiosity, I asked her to keep an eye on the grass growing on top of the spot, to see if it was moving.
It was not. She assured me, she double checked and it definitely wasn't.
-
Very true. I can't find it now, but I even remember a particular comment where someone defined the word "counter" with "completely negate", which is ridiculous. No survivor perk should fully negate any killer perk or power. With killer perks, it's a little different, since he has only four against sixteen, but still, completely shrugging off an effect of a perk is not very good design... here's why:
One of the most difficult challenges the devs face is the increasing stone-scissor-paper nature of the game. I'm thinking about stuff like Calm Spirit: using it you can put Doctor at a great disadvantage, but really not such a useful perk against any other killer. Sprint burst can be great against Legion, but helps very little against Nurse, and vice versa, while the case is the opposite with Dead Hard. Then there is Small Game when killer has no hex perks. The list could go on forever. In the end, it leads to a gamble where, if you're lucky enough, you may find yourself carrying the perfect perk set against a given killer, or, on the contrary, you may just end up with a bunch of useless perks.
No one can reasonably expect the devs to make this "roulette" feature of dbd go away. There are just too many perks, maps, killer powers already. But it doesn't mean they shouldn't try to make new perks (or revised perks) a little more versatile, useful in a number of situations, but in a way that prevents them from simply killing an entire perk or power of the opposing side.

Oh, this is literally my first day on the forums so I don’t know what to expect. (Btw, do you get in trouble for swearing on here?)
Here's a list of swear words you're allowed to use:
- Damn!

Make this her TR music:
-
Yea man, devs need to man up and remove fatigue.
-
PGTW, Surveillance, Overcharge may work wonders. We don't know yet. Personally, while I'd love some true no-notification jumpscare potential, at least I appreciate he gets what most killers lack: gen pressure. More interested to see how dream effects turn out.
-
Yup. Kill your Obsession, that's -25% for remaining survivors. Injure 1/2/3 of the rest, they get an additional -4/8/12%, to a max of -37%.
-
Just stop running and stand still, so I can hit you.
-
Agree with OP: on certain maps you literally can't make to one exit game from the other by the time it takes to open one.
Which makes me think about a different option: leave the big maps as they are, hell, make new ones, just increase default killer movement speed to 120%, and 115% for the slow ones. That would be a nice step towards actual balance.
-
Chrisko, the biggest problem with it would be slugging. If two already dead, I'd definitely leave the third survivor on the ground, and go look for the last one, plus the hatch. And slugging is not fun.
That's the most important part, but there is also the fact that once you get to the point where you are the last one alive, game doesn't need to be "fair". You have had your chances as a team, but killer outplayed you, now he gets the upper hand. You can still try your luck with the exit gates, but at this point, your chances are slim... as they should be.

Please, let us drop items too when in dying state. I'm thinking in med-kits or even syringes
@prayer_survivor oh lol, yea, that's one of those typical infuriating moments: two of us left, on top of the hatch, we could both escape but I'm down and I'm holding the keys. So frustrating and funny at the same time :)
Not sure I'd change that, although it's somewhat unrealistic how you can't give an item to a teammate when you're down (and they can't take it from you). But it may give too much of an edge sometimes (imagine someone carrying syringe medkit going down).
-
Ok, I give a more on-topic reply: you're actually making some sense. Problem is, there's those of us who strongly prefer a ruthless approach. I'm not toxic, I'm not insulting people (unless they insult me first), definitely don't aim to ruin the day of other players. But I still feel the best way to play if you use whatever tactics are at hand, dirty or not, don't care about being "nice" or "fair": anything that's not cheating is okay.
Again, not because I want to make the other players miserable. Rather, because I except the same attitude for them: play as effective as possible, and I assume they're emotionally stable enough to handle even the worst defeat with good humour. It's just a game after all. In a sense, I do these things in game so I don't have to be that person in real life :)
-
TL;DR
It was customary in ancient Egypt for the enemy fallen to have their hands or penises cut off and presented to the Pharaoh. For instance, after a great victory over the Libyans, Pharaoh Mernaptah (reigned ca. 1213-1203 BCE) returned with the penises of more than 13000 of the enemy dead.
You're welcome.
-
Simple answer: yes.
More detailed: Pharmacy is actually great, I strongly prefer it to Self Care. Gives me an opportunity to heal myself, plus, can stockpile some decent items for free (yeah I'm greedy).
Wake up actually has some use since PTB came live. 2-3 seconds seem almost nothing, but that "almost nothing" can save your life. Still a crappy perk.
And don't even get me started about Vigil. The very definition of "trash tier".
-
Those dailies: open the gate with..., escape with..., and Relic Veneration (get a new item) can be horrific. They're such bad luck charms. I usually just delete them, unless they're for one of the four survivors whom I P3-d with all perks. They're not worth a lot of BP either.
The most annoying one is gate opening, when you finally make it to the end in one game, but one teammate is adamant about opening the gate himself, no matter how much you teabag, no matter that you told them in the lobby you got this daily.
Yea, those days indeed...
-
@Mochan I play killer 80% of the time or so.
And I'm with you on this. Hate looping, not because it's hard (sometimes it is), but it fits some cheap comedy rather than horror. And as survivor, I don't care how much everyone hates UE: the best moments are when the killer passes right next to you, but you remain unnoticed. This is what still reminds me of typical horror scenes, when the victim sticks to a wall, sweating, trying to control his/her breath...
I think we talked about this in some other discussion: the majority would be against it. Most people enjoy chases better. Plus, as killer, I can tell you it's VERY frustrating when you literally can't find anyone for three gens straight on Yamaoka. Not talking about not hooking or hitting people, but not even seeing them. I can personally deal with that, but many players can :(
I wonder if there's a truly stealth based game out there (oh those days with Thief 2 and Thief 3!)
-
Oh #########. I forgot.
Profile saves have probably happened already, last few times it always happened at least a week before PTB, if I remember correctly.
I guess we're gonna stumble with a lvl 8 Ghostface.
-
Never, I hope.
DBD is only taking former humans.
Besides, how ridiculous it would be to Benny Hill around pallets 10 minutes straight with an alien creature who is supposedly ruthless, effective, deadly and all in all a master hunter?
-
Love playing against Nurse. I can successfully juke her about 30% of the time, but when I do, I'm soooooo proud o' meself :)
Playing as: all, except Huntress. I'm decent with all killers, except her. Me playing her is so pathetic, even the most toxic survivors sometimes come to me at the endgame and let me hook them, out of pity.
-
@se05239 "predatory"... Jesus Christ the drama here is real. No offense, but someone please explain to me why it is so morally abhorrent if a company wants to make money?
So many of you don't seem to realize, this game is not a hair dryer that you buy once and it's yours to use without limitations. BHVR has a lot of employees, working on new content, patches, bug fixes, balancing, events and who knows what else... to IMPROVE THIS GAME. Plus, there are bills to pay, Do you guys assume they're obligated to continue doing it forever, just because we bought the product once? And no, the income from DLC-s is probably not enough to keep the engine running. Not to mention that a lot of DLC-s are free, if you grind enough Iridescents.
Now, they start a project which gives you a chance to support them in a COMPLETELY VOLUNTARY way: Rift does not unlock any perks, characters or anything affecting gameplay, really. You don't buy it, you can still have full access to all the features of the game. Yet you shriek about it, because...?
Let me give you a glance into how I see this concept. I'm not thrilled about any Battle Pass kind of initiative either. But. The game is cheap, and additional content coming out is also cheap. Problem is, income generated this way does not cover some necessary changes after content release. But since the nature of this game requires a lot of players online at all times, developers simply can't afford to raise price of the basic game itself, or DLC-s. If they cost $20-30, a lot of people would simply not buy it, and the player base would dwindle. On the other hand, there are those who can easily afford more than the basic price for the game, and some of them are willing to support the devs more than that. That's why there are cosmetics, and that's why devs are going to introduce the Rift too.
How you people can keep throwing these tantrums about "greedy devs" and "predatory business practice" for something that's completely, entirely, fully OPTIONAL, and does not affect gameplay or your access to it... it's beyond me.

Why would you waste your life by spending time with games you're not really playing just offering yourself up for the hook? Second, even if you can't take the occasional frustration coming from the more competitive nature of higher ranks, is that reason enough to screw your teammates who'd actually want to play? If you're out soon, that leaves the three of them with a killer and 4-5 gens to do.
And anyway, if you successfully derank, and start playing normally, you'll eventually rank up again. So basically, you can spend about half of your total game time with "deranking" matches.
Makes no sense to me.

Not to mention he thinks the game + dlc = 200$? Lmao he could literally go onto steam right now, add it all to his basket and see it's 101$.
His game seems to be to make BHVR look as bad as possible for no apparent reason.
Hm... @SenzuDuck , he probably works for EA. Or Epic. Hm, maybe Facepunch?
-
For me it's a very simple question. IF disconnecting people will start getting banned, I'll pay up to $20, even $25. Don't care much about cosmetics, but I'd be happy to support BHVR so that they can continue improving and fixing the game.
But if the new system for punishing DC-s is still going to be a joke, not a cent.
@Micheal_Myers you're an idiot. You talk like companies making money is a bad thing. Jesus. You some kind of Commie?

@George_Soros Are you sure there won't be a ptb?
This next patch seems like its going to be huge...no ptb would be a bad move...
@Bbbrian2013 I actually don't know anything about anything, don't mind me.
(wink wink)
-
Even though there's not going to be a PTB, I expect the devs will gather information about balance issues, strengths and weaknesses, possible exploits etc with Ghostface, and issue a patch within a month.
Killer mains. You all know what to do. Restrain yourselves. Play ineffective. Play like complete potatoes. Make survivors think they outsmarted you. We all know how dishonest and spineless survivors are, but devs will more likely look at statistics than the endless, womanish whining of survivors. If we all manage to hold back a little, even after we figured out how to play the new killer well, he might just get that little extra help he needs.
-
@ClogWench probably not, but do you know of any better place to cry about unimportant stuff than this forum?
-
Not really.
A side note though: I think Predator should be given an extra effect to make scratch marks much more visible during EGC. That would make the perk a little less trashy.
-
Absolutely.
But still, the best thing that could happen to this game is if notorious ragequitters got banned for a long time.
-
Practice, get better and win win win. Some people will still talk trash, but it doesn't hurt if they do it after you wiped the floor with them. Don't report. Trash talk is part of gaming culture.
-
Hey I have a similar request: I f***ing hate seeing PGTW timer starting after I hook someone when all gens are done. It's beyond frustrating!!!
-
Game looks ugly though. Very unimaginative character models and animations. I don't think I'd buy it.
-
I'm for it. I don't hate Blendettes, I'd actually prefer a more stealthy, less loopy game. It would add to the horror atmosphere, if killer could down you faster, but finding you were more challenging. Plus, it feels so idiotic running around some object for ages, whereas I have the utmost respect for players who, not so much stealth through the whole game, but rather have the ability to lose me in a chase.
I have the feeling though, most players, especially experienced survivors would oppose such a course.
-
Oh, that's just sweet.
You know we can change killer when still in lobby though? This by itself would kill your idea (which was silly to begin with anyway).
In fact, I had a beautiful game recently with one of those "NURSE=DC" idiots showing up in lobby. Wanted to play Clown, but I thought it'd be fun to switch to Nurse, and as soon as the game begins, start blinking around like crazy.
And so I did. And boy, it WAS fun :)
Laughed so hard with the other survivors after game about that loser who indeed DC-d immediately.
-
Sure. And while you're at it, don't forget to do the same to Adrenaline.
-
You thought this out very carefully, nice job.
How about adding this for killer: gave last survivor the Hatch only to get trash talked by the same survivor after game (1 BP only for being stupid enough to give hatch)
:)
-
Eh, just leave Shelter Woods alone. There's gotta be at least a few killer-friendly maps. Look:
Coldwind maps - all survivor friendly
Dark Forest - both survivor friendly
Léry's - survivor friendly
Swamp - all survivor friendly
Yamaoka - horribly Claudette friendly
Crotus Prenn - all survivor friendly
Haddonfield - survivor friendly
Springwood - survivor friendly
Ormond - survivor friendly
Macmillan Estate - - all survivor friendly, except Shelter Woods
The Game - killer friendly
Autohaven - generally killer friendly, except Azarov's
I'm sure some of these can be debated, and of course a lot depends on which killer is there and what perks survivors use. But this is more or less how it is.
-
Better question is, why do brown, yellow, and green BP offerings even exist? You buy something for 5000 BP for a CHANCE to increase your BP gain in a game by 3000, tops. IF you're lucky. IF you don't get tunneled/camped/farmed. IF killer or survivors do not disconnect. IF you actually manage to do enough objectives/chases/saves, etc. The net result of this is definitely a loss for most players.
The answer is simple of course: to keep the grinding need pressing, that's an important incentive for people to play more. But it's still annoying.
-
Consider this: totems are (most of the time) very easy to find. Cleansing one disables a killer perk entirely, for the whole game. If you could "totem tap", that would make hex perks even weaker. Plus, there's a lot of tension ( =fun) with plays around cleansing a totem while killer is approaching: when you have to quickly decide whether you can cleanse it just in time, or you get grabbed in the last half second.
I see no reason why they should not reset if cleansing is interrupted. Sure I'm a bit killer sided, so take that into account, but I honestly think changing it would hurt game balance. Plus, it would make a whole family of perks so vulnerable that they would never be used again. I'm generally on the opinion that all perks should be made viable, for variety (f*** the meta!!!!).
-
I think amphetamine is dangerous. You should stop taking it.
-
@Tensor don't you know? Every topic is A NOED topic!
As for the DC question: yeah, this is the single biggest problem of DBD right now. Devs made some promises about sorting it out once dedicated servers will be here. While the current ban system is useless, I have some faith that they will actually put a more effective and strict system in place.
