  • Let me put it this way: against Clown, if survivors want to win, they'll win. Sad, but true, unless they are memeing around or they're complete and utter potatoes, Clown has nothing to stop genrush.

Take it from a former Clown main.

  • DBD has a bright future if you ask me. Nevermind those sad salt golems crying about this game dying :)

  • Lobby dodging is pathetic. But it's not nearly as harmful as DC during game. Banning people for it doesn't make sense.

Yes, killers who dodge are cowards looking for easy games. But they don't f*** up an ongoing game of four other people.

And yeah, bad ping is a valid reason for dodging, but others here explained it.

  • Silliness galore. First off, you had to disconnect A LOT to get banned. So you most likely deserve it. Second: yea, to some extent I agree there should be a warning before it happens to you. But it does not change the fact that you ruined the games of dozens, probably hundreds of other players. Yet you come here to complain about a function that is only there for real life situations.

  • I deeply sympathize with those who want Auric Cells but cannot afford it.

My message to them is this: get a job.

  • @Orion said:

She's ugly. Ugly people are a thing too.

    @Orion NO WE ARE NOT!

  • Embrrassing: I've been playing Doctor a LOT lately, getting better with him. And stuff. But. I still don't know if there's a clue on survivor icons about Madness level. Madness 1 grain effect is significantly thinner, so that's easy to recognize. But am I supposed to see (on icons) whether someone is in Madness 2 or 3? I can't tell the difference... if there's any.

    Anyone?

  • I've been trying to master Nurse for a loooong time. I recently improved my skills from garbage to mediocre. Most important suggestion I have for you is this: try to get them with your first blink. With the second (or third, etc), that tiny increase on fatigue time may just be what survivors need to get away, especially in corn.

  • If repeated (a lot), and there's clearly no reasonable advantage to gain for the one doing the tunneling, it is griefing, and it is theoretically bannable. However, I imagine you'd have to present abundant evidence, otherwise noone can decide if you're actually being griefed, or you're just some oversensitive player who can't handle losses emotionally.

I trust you record all your games and catalogue your recordings?

  • Will be no match for Nea's moustache.

  • Heh. Practically the only Exhaustion perk that requires good timing ("skills"!). Also, the second worst Exhaustion perk, except when you're facing a Nurse. Nerfing the tiny tiny speed bonus makes no sense...

  • It's not a bad item, it's just useless without addons, that's why we're annoyed when we find one in a chest. With the right addons though, it can give you some 10-15 seconds of killer aura reading (VERY useful), or 20 seconds of a Bond effect with extended radius, practically granting you an extra perk. Now, some tweaking of the timer or some other attributes may be ok, but giving it the ability to open hatch? That's a crazy idea. There are already lots of purple and pink keys in survivors' possession, there's an increased chance lately to find one in a chest as well, and on top of all this, Plunderer's increases those chances even further.

No thanks. It's not like I want easy games, but I sure as hell don't want to see a bloody key in all of my games.

  • Well, it largely depends on your location too. If you live in Xinjiang, you may have trouble finding people to play with in a reasonable distance. I'm sure in big urban areas like Beijing or Shantou or whatever, where there are solid internet connections and a huge population, it's much easier.

In which part of China do you live?

  • Yea well I want to drop pallets on survivors and stun them.

  • @Blueberry ok, I understand, but I'd still like to point out that most of the time you have no way of knowing how competitive or casual opponents you're facing, especially as survivor.

But anyway, I'm sorry if I went a little off topic with that.

  • Someone is looking to dethrone Orion.

Will be long and boring journey, friend. Are you sure you're up for it?

  • Ok, let me voice my opposition to all this. May be too long, sorry, I'll put a TL;DR at the end. The whole thing about buffing ultra rares is a wrong approach. One of the most annoying thing about killers is that most of them are not viable without decent addons. Not saying they need pink ones every time to get results, but they need good ones for sure. I understand it's partly design, to force us to keep grinding, and playing, but it gets tough once you hit level 50 and most stuff on your Bloodweb is garbage, yet you still have to buy them. One small but positive step was when they increased the base duration of Afterpiece Tonic, and decreased the effect of duration addons, giving Clown a better opportunity to try out other addons.

Second, and more important one: a very common source of frustration for both sides is "tryharding". Some players just want to meme around, farm, go easy on the other, while others enjoy playing as ruthlessly as possible. Both are ok, casual and "tryhard", but the problem is you don't know what kind of opponent you're facing. I don't mind at all if my survivors are packing instaheals or crazy fast genrush builds when I'm playing Clown with Redhead's Pinky or Omega Nurse. But if I'm facing casual survivors, they can get very frustrated if I do all the tunneling, slugging, "killthemallwhateverittakes" stuff. And it's understandable, hell, if they are civilized enough in expressing their complaints, I even feel bad about it.

However, if killers' base powers were to be buffed somewhat, and addons, especially the rarer ones get tempered a little, the game would not present a huge balance issues every once in a while.

Here's the TLDR part: What I'm mostly proposing is not even just power buffs and addon nerfs. That too, but first of all, I'd want to see more gameplay changing addons, ones that don't necessarily make killers stronger, but significantly change their playstyle. A big favourite of mine is Beast addon for Wraith (the one that retains the TR even when cloaked), but Pig has a few interesting ones as well, and so does Hag, and to some extent, Michael (Butcher's hand, Scratched Mirror and Vanity Mirror, and some others). I want addons that force survivors to adjust the playstyle they would normally use against a given killer.

  • @Micheal_Myers I believe it can give some advantage to both parties, as opposed to the current state where lag favors killers. But I may be wrong.

Most of it depends on how many data centers or servers will be available, and how solid they're going to be. Me and most Europeans will be probably in a good spot, some other locations may not be as lucky (poor Oceanian players :( )

  • @Micheal_Myers you're wrong about this, unfortunately. Dedicated servers will not solve the lag issues. It won't check whether or not you have a crappy connection. At best, it won't let people from very far join a server. But it won't help those McDonalds wifi or shared dorm connection users, and anyone they're in a game with.

  • Yea, Freddy will most likely suck, not even because we can expect him to be weaker, but if it'll be anything like Legion "rework", he'll be BORING AS HELL.

On the other hand, devs have come through many times with a lot of difficult problems, especially with balance issues. Who knows, if it's not the same guy who did Legion rework... I have some hope.

  • "salt"

Or just play safe and tag it "naked females in here"

  • @prayer_survivor Orion is right though: you're not presenting arguments, just venting frustration. Yes, 1v1 is very difficult for the survivor, and easier for the killer. But it's only ONE part of the game. "Balance" doesn't mean all parties should have a guaranteed 50% chance of winning at any time.

Think about it this way: you don't see any of us killer mains complaining about how difficult it is when all generators are repaired, and all four survivors are still alive.

Why? Well, we already had our chances, and failed, either because we didn't play well enough, didn't play seriously, maybe survivors were great or by pure luck. Doesn't matter. At the beginning of a match, we all have a fair chance to win. As the game progresses, depending on how it goes, one side starts to gain advantage over the other.

Also, I don't see you mentioning how now you can escape even if zero generators are done. Fair? No. Luck based? Yes. Is it wrong? Hell no.

  • @Mushwin said:

But if they aren't going to skip then skip yourself? just an easy solution? i aren't a fan of bad pings myself and have had some weird games....but if i get a really bad ping i just skip.

@Mushwin that is because you are extremely intelligent, talented and good looking. Not everyone is like that.

@Mushwin I think he's thinking that he has spent an amount of time waiting for a lobby already and now its filled with survivors from Asia playing DbD on their potato laptops inside a McDonalds somewhere.

@se05239 thank you man. You feel my pain. It's not such a big deal of course. I'm more annoyed by the sheer stupidity of some people (Russian kids, mostly), than the actual nuisance of having to dodge a lobby and losing a few minutes of my life. I can deal with that. But stupid people should be sterilized.

  • @Mushwin said:

@George_Soros woah, take a deep breath....just skip the lobby and move on to find another game?

@Mushwin NO THEY MUST SKIP THE LOBBY IT'S NOT ME WITH THE INSANE [GOOD WORD] PING.

I took several deep breaths. My opinion hasn't changed though.

  • @Mushwin no, harsh would be saying ######### those ######### ######### who are too moronic to realize this piece of ######### ######### is ######### unplayable with their ######### ping.

That would be relatively harsh. "Simpleton" is mild. I don't care how long they waited, any ping over 250 makes the lag horrific.

  • @23flash you say: "to be able to lunge around a corner through a whole area and catch someone is pretty ridiculous"

360-s are ridiculous, yet they're in the game too. If we're talking about what's realistic and not (which we shouldn't, it is not a main concern in any game), turning for any character should be much slower. Yes, including lunge.

"Playability" always trumps notions of realism, and with good reason.

  • The only problematic one was Wraith. Michael was perfectly ok, I think he would have got you there even with a normal lunge, and he was in EW3, so... Freddy and Spirit: there was obvious lag. With Spirit, that's also partly due to inconsistent animation (which devs are working on, according to their latest stream). But her timing and the time of pallet drop is clear, this one SHOULD be a hit. Btw, that's probably the case with Wraith too, only I can't quite spot it.

At any rate, this video pretty much does the opposite of what you want: shows how getting cocky is not worth it. Just drop the pallet in time.

  • Very detailed and very wrong. The correct counter to EGC: make sure at least two of you are still alive by that time. Failing that, well, your chances of survival are low. As they should be.

  • @Mochan said:

How does it work with Nurse? Can you blink while carrying a survivor?

Seems to me this works best with Pig, you can Bear Trap them when they go down so at least they need to run around removing the trap. Most other killer's abilities get nullified playing in this self-imposed mode.

@Mochan no, of course I cannot blink while carrying. But I got something like 106% movement speed (if someone knows the exact number, correct me), and just as importantly, they don't expect it. The real beauty of it is that it's not so good against careful soloes, but works wonders against eagerly bodylocking SWF squads :)

There are much better builds of course, but this one is very entertaining.

  • Tunnel the one with the key hard, and hope the others won't pick it up once he/she is dead. Honestly, I think Plunderer is more dangerous: you don't even have a chance to predict they have a key.

On the other hand, we all have those 3K-s when the last one escapes. 4K is better of course, but 3K should make us happy enough.

  • I've playing playing a lot of Nurse with Agitation+Iron Grasp+Mad Grit. Other killers are simply too weak to use these, but with Nurse you can down people fast enough to risk using a fun build. Also, it makes me sooooooo happy to be able to chase survivors (with Agitation, you're actually faster while carrying).

  • Devs talked about this in last stream. If I remember correctly, they said it may feel like you shouldn't be hit, but mostly because of the animation and the actual hitbox are not synchronized perfectly. (And latency problems too, of course.) But in general, the thing itself (getting hit the same time when you're dropping the pallet) is intended, necessary, and by the way, realistic too. I actually never experience this as survivor, probably because I just leave lobbies over 120 ping, but hopefully, those who have this issue will be better off when we all move to dedicated servers, and when devs improve the animation.

But even in the current situation: it's not that hard, just adjust your timing, and drop the pallet a fragment of a second earlier.

  • YES YES YES, like @backstabber said, PROOF! NOW!

  • @otherbarry yes it is :)

    It wasn't me though.

  • Funny thing though, I can still quite clearly hear killers' breathing. Whether it's Michael's creepy heavy breathing or those slurpy noises made by a Billy right behind a wall with Tinkerer, I can hear them all, from a few meters at least.

Last dev stream mentioned fixing sounds. I hope it takes priority.

  • Man. If you're up against three-four Adrenalins, NOED's weakness becomes abundantly clear.

Sorry man, there's no sane reason to gut NOED. Relatively easy to counter, and any decent group of survivors will cleanse the totem in no time even if it's not prevented.

  • Got removed form the Friends list of someone: guy (some competitive minded youngster from Romania) went back to troll Huntress a bit, got promptly downed, climbed under the pallet. There were only two of us left; I tried to help him up and then stun the Huntress to give the guy a few seconds to escape, but failed. There was indeed a bit of potatoness on my part, but I couldn't help laughing at how mad he was afterwards, when honestly the real mistake was by him... he could have just escaped instead of trying to pretend he's the lovechild of Ochido and Noob3 :)

  • I sometimes play SWF with a friend, and very rarely with one or two more. No comms, and we play like complete potatoes. I do at least, she not so much. But at any rate, I see a lot of SWF far from the "toxic genrushing fully organized SWAT team" type, when I'm playing killer. Sure, people using comms have an unfair advantage, but it's hardly gamebreaking.

  • @NeaJovovich the screenshot speaks clearly about the real issue: disconnects. The fact that a killer can troll and prolong the game BY THREE MINUTES TOPS in the EGC may be annoying, but MUCH better than the previous situation where survivors could prolong it INDEFINITELY.

What you describe is really a non-problem. Yes, in this game the killer has the opportunity to gain an upper hand over you, in some cases so much that he can do with you as he pleases. It's by design.

  • Trapper without a question. A solid, upstanding guy, I find him really likeable.

  • I read only the title, sorry.

But yeah. Nurse is the only balanced killer.

  • I propose a new addon for Hag (and Pig, and maybe some others): Periscope.

Would help out a lot in corn and the swamp.

  • You know what would make it an awesome perk? If it prevented red lights from turning on, up until, say, 50% or 75% opening progress.

I'd hate it as killer, but making trash perks a little more useful is always a good idea.

  • Survivors have the most important tool they need to prepare for a match: communication (well, console players can't chat pre-game but they are just console players, they don't count). In return, the killer can see their items, which is not much information anyway: there's a huge difference between a brown medkit with Rubber Gloves and a green one with Abdominal Dressings and Gel Dressings, or BNP toolbox vs brown toolbox with brown addons. Not to mention that during the match survivors can quickly figure out most, if not all of the killer's perks, whereas the killer has to make an effort to remember the perks of FOUR survivors.

The game's balance is designed around a lot of factors, one of them being killer's ability to see survivors' items. It's fine as it is.

With all that, yea, I agree lobby dodging is just a pathetic thing to do, and even more difficult to prevent than DC-s: devs can't just start banning people for dodging. Not all killers do that, so even if it's annoying sometimes, it gives you a few more minutes of waiting time at worst.

  • I don't see much of an issue. Survivor has to be lucky: killer has the advantage of faster movement, so it's usually him/her who finds the hatch first. Plus, if you 3K-d while there are still 4 or 5 gens to do, you already have a neat amount of Gatekeeper points and probably in the other categories too, whereas the remaining survivor most likely has not done enough gens to pip up.

Luck has always been a factor in this game, and necessarily so. Kind of a way to give casual/less skilled players some chance too. Finidng a purple key in a chest, hatch spawning next to you and so on: these are precious moments too. Not saying it's not better when every player in a game is amazing, they all give their best and in the end the bestest man wins, but there's some fun to have with random luck too.

  • Seriously, it's a bad idea. But I'm in full support of easing up the grind for newbies.

  • I play solo so I feel less guilty when farming the heck out of my "teammates". Also, makes it easier on my conscience to leave them sore losers on the hook, while I escape.

  • I want to be able to use my credit card in a game to buy kills.

  • The whole concept of Michael's perks is that you gain an advantage from either ignoring you obsession, or the opposite: focusing on them in a rather tunnelsighted way.

In short, Dying Light is fine as it is.
