3, I suppose.
I expect people to play the game properly.
-
It is a type of BM.
-
I like to say that I am at the lower end of MMR, but that is because I most likely am.
-
I used to really love Bubba before he got reworked.
But now...I don't mind not seeing him.
-
Freddy used to be the best of this list by a LONG shot.
BHVR just messed him up after a week.

@BlightedDolphin said:
Freddy is absolutely BHVR’s fault. They nerfed him within a week of his release, admitted they were wrong, refused to revert the changes and then announce he was being reworked within a few months of his release when all they had to do was buff him.
Then after over a year they rework him into a basic and boring killer for both sides, make him slightly OP and then over nerf him while still leaving him boring. And don’t forget they nerfed his Dream Pallets because “they are OP but we don’t know why”.
Sure the fan base complained about Freddy a lot, but BHVR went overboard on him multiple times when they only had to buff his original design OR nerf his Forever Freddy build and leave his base kit untouched. It’s a shame as old Freddy was the most unique killer in the game and now he’s the most boring killer to play.
I do not know why you've chosen this example in particular, but you are absolutely correct.
Unfortunately, Freddy is one of many things BHVR completely messed up.
And it is their goddamn fault for doing so.
-
Freddy.
He was always my favorite and he always will be.

“a Clown instantly blaming his loss on a non-existent SWF”
From what I saw The Clown player didn’t blame their loss on this. They simply asked if they were a SWF.
He didn't ask.
He straight up blamed his loss on a non-existent SWF.

TC's last thread was about how all killers are so toxic in end game chat and his two pictures didn't even show that much.
It's reasonable to believe TC isn't being accurate with how he's retelling the story to try to paint the blight (a killer he's also notoriously hates) as toxic.
That is not accurate, at all.
OP's last thread was about 2 specific killers who acted badly (a Clown instantly blaming his loss on a non-existent SWF and a Blight who DCed despite using some of his best add-ons) and the pictures clearly show that. Besides, OP never once called them toxic.
Your last point doesn't make any sense, to be completely honest. I absolutely despise Trickster from the bottom of my heart, but I don't go around retelling stories of my frustrating matches against him to portray the killer as "toxic".
It is unreasonable to assume someone would do that in the first place.

I'm not. People need to realize it's a game and shouldn't be taken so seriously. "Omg they hit on hook !!! They shook their head at me !!! They tbagged me !!! Toxic !!!" Like it's some big deal.
You misunderstand.
Those things do not impact us irl, but are annoying and very clearly toxic within the game's context.
-
@BrokenSouI said:

And you call this toxic....? Ok then
Anything that is done with the sole purpose of annoying the other side is toxic.

This, like 2 minutes into the match he hooked Dwight and smacked him on the hook for no reason and shook his head. Like poor Dwight 😓
Poor Dwight indeed.
Yeah, the killer deserved a loss and the taunt after this one. As all toxic players do.
-
Being toxic after being provoked is always justified.
The opposite is the problem.

Wha...
I mean, I did main Spirit for some time, granted, but I am definitely not the wielder of such title.

Everyone who does something to annoy the other side without being provoked first does not deserve to play the game.
Period.

Of course I'm not like alot of people on these forums who have and opinion on something and no matter what thats my opinion and your not changing it. I've actually had opinions I thought were right and a few people threw some fact at me and changed my veiw on it. I've also noticed alot of people like to say stuff but give no real argument or proof and act like it's 100% fact.
Interesting.
Don't see this type of mentality that much around here.

I'll buy that I've heard alot of good things around that time. It's to bad I took my break right before but I had to it just wasn't fun for me at that time.
I am glad you see my point.
2017 - 2019 is the general time frame, then.

I played mid 2018 right after Legion release and it wasn't to fun for the killer. Og Ds,true insta heals,BnP, actual infinites been a killer was terrible then but what I've heard is a little after I left the made huge improvements.
A little after you left.
2019.
It fits.

So in truth dbd has never had a real golden age.
There has been a golden age, but in truth it is difficult to determine a detailed time frame.
The best possible answer would be:
2017 - 2019
It is generic and way too big, but at least it suits everyone.
-
@Gamedozer7 said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2829333#Comment_2829333
That doesn't make any sense? A golden age is generally accepted by the majority as the best time in x. It seems more like when is your opinion when dbd was the best.
It is because DBD had many changes in short periods of time, and all of those changes affected each player differently.
While everyone agrees that it happened in the past, people always have those small details that made the game more or less fun for them, and that impacts the answers.
-
@Gamedozer7 said:
Can someone please tell me when this golden age was? I haven't seen anyone actually give a time frame just you know before certain changes.
It changes depending on who you ask.
The answer is always in the past, but it is difficult to give a specific time frame.
EDIT:
If you want my answer, DBD's golden age lasted from July of 2017 to November of 2018.
But don't take it as the universal truth. This is just my opinion.
-
That cosmetic comment though...
I see what ya did here :)

I completely forgot about old Freddy having it first.
Sadako is the second, then.
-
Survivors cannot interact with windows or pallets for 5 seconds after the dash.
-
Old Freddy did it first.
His initial nerf increased his TR from 16 to 24.
-
Because they do not care.
Simple as that. BHVR doesn't give a damn about us.

Forever Freddy... that's something I haven't heard in a while. That is a scary thought... instantly reminds me of end game Freddy's with NOED + Remember Me. You can only imagine that with No Way Out. Freddy could always see your aura almost no matter what (if everyone was in the dream state). Oh and they used to slug in that scenario and go from one survivor to the next... ugh. Not a nice thought.
Oh and Freddy with old Dying Light and old mori... I need to stop thinking about it now.
I can make that build even slower 👀
-
It undeniably used to.
-
Well, right now I would tell you to run Self-Care / Sprint Burst / Iron Will and Urban Evasion on your Survivors, and Ruin / BBQ / Brutal Strength and MYC on your Killers.
Both of those are some of my own builds from back in the day, and while they don't exactly abandon the meta, they may provide a certain change of pace.
At the very least, I can assure you they are fun to use.

You speak of a great treasure, ya know:
Scorching Summer BBQ.
Widely considered to be the second-best event in the game's history.
Though I would advocate for things a little further in the past, this precious time is unquestionably within the game's golden age.

Question: Do you think this game could enter a golden age assuming lots work gets done to make the game fun? EG: No MMR/MMR changes, certain balance changes (the deletion of Circle of healing), etc.
I really would not want old dbd back, it was hard carried by survivor's lack of skill making matches feel "fair" even though they weren't.
I personally really enjoy some of the newer killers both versing and playing, they add some variety in the game especially since most of them are super fun. That's probably the only reason I wouldn't go back.
Now that I'm thinking about it I would probably have artist deleted for circle of healing (and boons in general) to be yeeted from existence.
To be perfectly honest with you, my friend, my answer is no.
A true golden age like the ones we had, in my honest opinion, would require way more than just adjustments to the balance. For me, it is not just about which side should or should not have the advantage.
It is about the game around it too.

When I compare the current game with my experience from 2018, I don't feel the game is worse or better.
It makes me feel similar as back then. Some things have changed but the amount of enjoyment I get from dbd remains the same.
But you do not believe in the existence of a golden age, so it doesn't count.
What I am saying is that, for those who note the differences between their experiences throughout their years of playing DBD, their golden days are usually not related to the current mess of a game that we now have.
@JonahsTablet said:

You said "one or two QoL adjustments would be needed" which I took as you saying that the game would be fine although a little clunky without them. Now I understand if you truly do think the game was better, but from an objective standpoint, the game has received a lot of technical, artistic, and visual improvements over the last few years. I couldn't tell you if it was the most fun on Earth, but I can research the many bugs and poor visuals that plagued the game.
Well...to each their own.
Though I can safely, and without a shadow of doubt, assure you that such idea of mine of getting an improved version of the already perfect golden days would work.
-
@Shaped said:
Was there ever a "golden" age?
I started playing in 2018 but I watched some of the older stuff. Game was always a mess.
Still, I always kinda like it even with all the flaws. It scratches the itch other games don't.
Yes, there was.
Though, the "when" will unavoidably change depending on who you are asking. The only thing every answer has in common, is that they do not mention the current mess we have.
-
@JonahsTablet said:

Saying the game should go back to how it was before is a naïve take, I have been playing Minecraft for about a decade now and I can safely say that while I love the older versions, playing them now feels very empty and clunky, that's what I imagine old DBD would play like now, it just wouldn't feel right without the QOL we've received over the past 3-4 years.
Do not refer to it as "naïve", mate. It is a personal and sincere opinion of mine.
And second, that is exactly why I mentioned one or two QoL adjustments would be needed. Going back to a better time, and the absolute majority agrees that Old DBD was a better time, doesn't automatically remove the possibility of fixing some of its problems.
Of course, those "problems" change depending on who you're asking. For me, there are none. For others, there are quite a few.
But you got the idea.

I suppose a better question might be
can DBD ever reach that height again? Not popularity wise but I guess quality wise?
I'm sure many ppl don't think so but I dunno, the game must be doing something right in the big picture of things.
Objectively speaking, yes.
It is not only possible, but quite easy. We just revert everything back to how it used to be during the golden days, make one or two QoL adjustments to avoid having some of the balancing problems and voila!
The game is perfect again.
The real problem lies when we question whether or not the developers would be willing to do it.
And the answer is disappointing.

Are you sure the game really was more fun back then bc of it's state and not nostalgia?
Not trying to be snarky, I have fond memories of when I started playing/earlier days when I was newer too.
If you took current DBD minus MMR and I guess Boons, is it really so bad? Also not playing devils advocate for either of those things.
"Are you sure the game really was more fun back then bc of it's state and not nostalgia?"
Absolutely.
I can assure you that Haunter's memories are as fresh as my own. And everyone around here knows that, when it comes to Old DBD, GeneralV is our guy!

One of the best experiences the video game industry has ever provided us with:
Period.
EDIT: Figured it was best to change the image as we are talking about the golden age itself, and not just about one event that happened during those precious days.
