If enough people understood enough of maths, and had the ability to apply it on demand, that this mistake wouldn't happen, lotteries would probably be way less popular than they are.
"If I tell you a map is 100m across..." Pretty sure I already explained that part only one post earlier. Now, if I then grab the diameter, it's two totems to cross the map from side to side. Keeping to this rough estimate, if we then assume the map is square and use the diameter as the length of a square, we can estimate that four totems will give you most of the map covered--nearly 100% by the estimate.
And if we then use actual calculations, it's 10,000m^2 and 1809m^2, so those four totems actually cover ~72% of the map. Not bad for an estimate that required no actual specifics. Then compare with the size given for e.g. wreckers just now, and all the numbers line up pretty well.
I feel like thats a problem with the community is they look at a perk and just see the face value. An example is the people who say DH only extends the chase 3 seconds because they are using it for its face value purposes I think that makes sense.

Ok I think things have gotten mixed up
Yes if you want the best coverage estimation then area is what you use and yes you need radius to figure it out.
What I'm saying is people area using the radius as an argument as to why boons aren't good but thats it just the radius and nothing else no area no diameter just radius.
So the wiki says the area of wreckers is 9216 m×2 and a boons area is 1809.56 thats alot on whats a decent map image midwich or the game

"Better coverage estimation?"
That's called the area. You determine the area using the radius.
"If I tell you a map is 100m across, and the radius is 24m, then you might mistakenly think 100/24 ~= 4, so 4 totems needed to cross a map."
If you tell me a map is 100 meters across, that doesn't tell me anything unless the map is a perfect square. I'd need to know the area of the map and then divide that by the area of a boon totem's influence (which, again, uses radius) to figure out roughly the minimum number of Boon totems are needed to cover the whole map.
The only way someone makes the mistake you are alleging is if they are confusing radius with diameter, which is on them.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2645433#Comment_2645433
That's not how area works at all. By using the radius to figure out the area, you are indeed looking at the whole circle.

I would say yeah. Otzdarva still has her in S tier before blight and nurse and after hag.
Also i personally think MDR and Dried Cherry Blossom is the most powerful version of spirit yet
I haven't done this yet but I want to try it out but dried cherry blossom seem stupid. If what people say and what it looks like its made spirit actually mindless to play.

It’s nice having instant queues as killer all day lately but still doesn’t change the fact for 1 thing. Toxic survivors, the reason why I still hardly play and won’t until something with the meta changes. I’m glad that fellow killer mains didn’t bluff about not playing killer anymore. I don’t blame you either, I can only stomach a few games until I get that nasty team.
I don't play to much dbd lately but when I do its like 2 killer games and I'm over it.

"The formula for area involves the radius (that is how one describes a circle), but that doesn't mean that thinking about the perk in terms of its radius is a good one for balance."
This doesn't make sense. If figuring out the area a Boon perk covers flat-out invovles the radius, then what makes the diameter more useful for perk balance? What does the diameter demonstrate that the radius doesn't? Not area. Not range of influence. So then what?
Radius is from the edge of the circle to the middle so if you only look at Radius your only looking at half the circle
-
@RainehDaze said:
Or, another way (and the problem with saying it's "only" 24m) is that 24m is a small-medium sized distance, but when you're dealing with "amount of map covered by this effect" then it's substantially less small.
Doubly so given that killers can only here from ~12m away. Half the distance, right? But that means killers can wander around 3/4 of the boon area and not get a single audible clue.
See hearing the boon totem is more like hearing a killers TR

But you can only look in one direction at a time so the other 40 meters behind is useless
@RainehDaze said:
I think people are getting thrown for a loop because most distances are expressed in point-to-point terms, or are being talked about because of the distance from two points--terror radius might be a radius, but it's still mostly relevant in "how far am I from the Killer"; fully 3/4 of the radius is the Killer not looking or moving away (and mostly relevant for perk interactions). With Boon totems, this isn't the case and the entire radius and area is significant, so the usual point-to-point logic isn't applicable.

I think this helps it make more sense.

Except it's range is 24m away from the totem, which is the norm for literally every single perk. You don't go "Oh BBQ has a circle of protection within 40m which means it's actually 80m long" you just go "Oh 40m near the hook, neat".
But you can only look in one direction at a time so the other 40 meters behind is useless

It's a tricky example there because Tombstone add-ons are total BS, and the best stalking add-on means guaranteed hook trades, but other than that Myers is in need of some serious buffs.
It takes alot to pull it off and I think its kind of funny when it happens but thats just me. His basekit is so dated I would love to see him get some love.

But it doesn't cover just just 24 meters

The perk description says it has a range of 24 meters. No one is saying anything inaccurate when they say it's 24 meters.
I'm not saying they're wrong but is the the full picture isnt not just 24 meters is 24 meters in every direction from the boon.

Ok I was curiouswhat area had to do with it. It would actually be useful to know the area of the average map and the the area of a Boon totem to see the % it actually takes up

How do you figure?
So the radius if CoH is 24 meter so that means that from the boon it goes out in ever direction in 24 meters. Now the diameter of a circle is 2×the radius so the diameter of CoH is 48 meters

Yes it has a 24 meter radius which means it have a 48 meter diameter.

I don’t understand why killers that run NOED, commit to 5 gen chases, and facecamp beat you on hook and shake their head like what?
If you where been toxic(not saying you where) then it understandable if not then it sounds like they got mad they over committed and taking it out on you. I had a legion do this to me after a 4 gen chase.

So I don't like NOED...sometimes but I don't get why survivors will rail on the killer for bringing it the last match I had everyone brought Dead hard which I hate they added hit validation on so explain how a single killer bringing NOED is worse then survivors bringing Dead Hard,DS,BT(though it's still a good perk not toxic because camping killers and such) and so on but NOED beats them all.
Because those are really good perks what else would they use? But killers using noed is definitely a baby killer that suck and should uninstall the game.
But seriously noed isn't even that good of a perk as soon as you know they got it go cleans it and if you don't know where it is just leave

All platforms , and honestly just as iconic characters (Cell, Buu and Frieza).
One thing that DBD has over Breakers is original killers (or Raiders in Breakers).
VHS is coming as well, but I can easily see Breakers gaining big traction. I'm just curious as to how DBD will be able to keep up with these new games.
Huge DB fan but I feel like its going to be beat up the monster type of thing because that's what DB is. VHS on the other hand I have only one really big problem with it

I've been saying this for a while. The only time I ever see map offerings used is when one side wants to skew the balance too far in their favor.
I agree most maps are survivor sided and normally if a killer is bringing uses one its for some broken build or nurse on Midwich type thing. It pretty much ensures one side has an huge up hill battle.
-
@Mdawgu said:
That's kind of an interesting idea. But would heavily rely on luck of positioning and other factors. And the power of the scourge hook perk would have to reflect that. Might be hard to balance but that word isnt in the devs' vocab.
Its already rng you can easily get them all on one side or on big maps there pretty much useless. I feel like scourge hooks are almost good but they rely on rng alot.

https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/294924/gaming-etiquette
Sure. And welcome to the game!
A few things (from a killer perspective):
As a survivor:
- Don't teabag or flick your flashlight on and off at the killer. This is usually taken to be a taunt/BM, and is usually frowned on. A lot of the time, this will also cause the killer to fixate on you and probably tunnel/camp you out.
- Sometimes, a quick teabag means 'thank you' when another survivor heals you.
- Get out of the exit gates once you've won the game. A lot of survivors like to stay and gloat, but not only is this just a really lame thing to do, it can occasionally backfire. Just leave please so we can both get to our next game.
- A 'gg' in postgame never hurt anyone.
- Don't DC. A lot of survivors will pull their cable the second they get picked up, to deny the killer BP/Adepts etc. It's extremely BM and also puts your team at a disadvantage. If you really want out of the game, run to the killer and point at a hook.
- Sometimes the killer will ease up if you are getting hammered or have a DC. This is usually a sign to farm some BP, do some gens, heal etc. If you don't want to farm and just end, see above.
- Finally, if the killer picks you up and instead of hooking you, hits the air over the hatch/a generator/the exit gates, it usually means that they are giving you an out. If you run away instead, they will take it that you want them to kill you.
As a killer:
- Facecamping (standing by the hook waiting for a survivor to die) is usually considered BM, and is only acceptable if you care more about making someone die than getting BP (you take a hefty penalty from staying close to a hooked survivor). That said, proxy camping (patrolling in sight of a hook while pressuring gens) is entirely fine.
- Hitting someone already on hook is considered BM. Don't do it.
- 'Slugging' - knocking multiple survivors down and not hooking them is controversial. It can be a legitimate tactic (ie. you know someone else is nearby and want to try and down them too, to snowball into a win) but it can also be BM (not hooking any of the survivors on the ground and instead just standing there and letting them bleed out/downing them again if they use Unbreakable). Use it sparingly, and only when it makes sense tactically.

Hey! I rather like this cave!
As a killer a single crouch anywhere except a pallet or window i take as a thank you

Honestly anytime I load into rpd on both sides I seriously consider dcing. I end up playing it out but its really not fun running around for 10 minutes trying to find Survivors while at the same time Survivors are just as lost trying to find gens. Its probably the only level if I get 0 hooks and gen rushed im ok get me the **** out of there

On a very small map its even worst its almost no counter play then.
Your made that they perks have good synergy? That's the point running two separate perks to make up for weakness
