  • They're not going to release two perks that do the same thing. For one, it's redundant, and for another, if a second perk were introduced that could truly replace Ruin, it would be no less bothersome to face. It wouldn't necessarily replace Ruin either, since killers would as likely as not just stack the two for greater effectiveness.

  • If you mean official endorsements, the closest we're likely to get to that is the Fog Whisperers program, and things like the Beginners' Guide Contest from a few months ago. I believe second place in that contest went to a YouTube tutorial.

So while the devs do sometimes indirectly endorse player-made guides to the game, YouTube tutorials included, I don't necessarily see them sharing them on social media or creating an official list or anything like that. Mainly because if they feel such a thing is necessary, they're more likely to just make an official guide for it themselves. But of course, it's not impossible that they may yet decide to do something like that in the future.

Therefore, the developer's definition of average is, as stated, 1 hour of gameplay every day.

Since there are 70 days in each Rift, it shouldn't take no more than 70 hours to complete The Rift.

If one hour per day of gameplay isn't enough, which is a problem because they are balancing around that number, then changes are necessary.

Of course, there are many variables to consider, but ultimately, they can view hidden stats and make changes where they see fit. 😁🤗

I don't really have a problem with the Rift because I can spend a ton of time on it, but others who don't have my amount of time can struggle a lot.

I know that the 70-80 hour estimate was probably off, I'm not arguing that point. The point I was trying to make is that I see a lot of people talking about how the devs promised that the Rift would be completable for casual players, that is to say, pretty much anyone, when that's not what they actually said. The Rift should be completable for an average player, not necessarily a casual one.

Whether or not it hit that goal is debatable, and something we'll find out for sure when the Rift ends, but it's beside the point in this case. I just get tired of seeing people repeating their own interpretation of something the developers said as though it's what they actually said, and then drawing conclusions on that basis. If we're going to draw conclusions, they should be accurate to the evidence presented.

  • It would be difficult to make an argument for facecamping and slugging being bannable, unless he specifically targets you and no one else over multiple games (which is a reportable offence, although you'll need video proof to back it up - see the link below for more details).

What is bannable, though, is using that kind of language in the post-game chat. You can and should report him for that in-game, and if you like you can also submit a Support ticket with screenshots of the conversation.

More details on bannable offences and how to report them correctly can be found here: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/19450/game-rules-and-report-system#latest

And you can submit a Support ticket via the Help Center here: https://support.deadbydaylight.com

  • It's a bit of a coincidence that it happened to you three times in one day, but yeah, that's something people will do and pretty much always have.

The good news is, if you get a recording of it, it's reportable, since it falls under "working with the opposite team to gain an advantage or grief teammates". (https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/19450/game-rules-and-report-system#latest)

You should report them in post-game, and then send a ticket to Support with the recording. (https://support.deadbydaylight.com)

Good on you for ignoring it as killer, though. The best way to punish behaviour like that and make sure it doesn't happen again is just to not reward it.

  • Dead Hard is probably the best if you know how to use it well (and don't get screwed over by latency), because it has so much versatility in terms of situations where it can come in handy. Borrowed Time is my favourite, though.

Understandable, legion is annoying for me sometimes too. Maybe I should have put the legion up there.

Looks like you ran out of options. The poll only allows ten, I believe.

  • Assuming you were playing solo, the best explanation I can give is that, when it comes to the survivors, the rank 13 was well within the 6-rank bracket, and for ranks 17-20 there is no limit on how many ranks above they can be matched with.

As for the killer, it's possible that the above exception for grey ranks extends to rank 16 as well, but I'm not entirely sure. Otherwise, it was probably the bug where the system receives incorrect rank information from the killer and so matches them with survivors of the wrong ranks.

  • Yeah, it would be cool but unfortunately it's pretty much off the table.

  • No. Legacy wasn't an event, as such, to begin with. Early on in the game's history, the developers decided to reduce the bloodpoint grind dramatically, making it much easier to level and prestige characters. Legacy was a spur-of-the-moment reward (and by that I mean players only got a couple of weeks notice before the cutoff date) granted as compensation to those who had put the effort into prestiging characters before the changes. Basically, it was a one-time event triggered by a unique gameplay change, which is why neither it nor anything similar will be likely to return in the future.

Maybe. But I always base my fun on arbitrary things like, were they toxic, did they bm, were they good sports, etc. Lol

Yeah, that's why I say it's a very rough indicator, and I'm not certain exactly what they can and can't track, but it's possible that a more general pattern may emerge over time that could point to a problematic area in the game. I'm sure it's nowhere near a primary factor in making balance decisions, though, it's just that additional data is always nice to have.

It's a tiny hair piece. It's green if I remember correctly but it makes her look bald. Do you like how she looks then?

I think I personally prefer her with hair overall, but it does look cool. And it works with the Hallowed Blight skin as well, which isn't often the case for many cosmetics.

  • I assume the data does go to them. My guess would be that they use it as a very general indicator as to what makes a game "fun" so that they can try to address common issues. Like maybe people consistently rate games against certain killers badly, or games of a certain length, or games where people DCed, or games with bad matchmaking. So they probably look at that, as a preliminary thing, and say to themselves, "Hm, a lot of people don't seem to be having fun in games with this particular feature, maybe that's something we could look into."

This verdict depends on if an individual has the time to grind the extra shards that aren't available through the archives.

Add to that the possibility that an individual might not have the skill or resources to complete the challenges for one of the two roles.

As an example, all of my survivors are at level 1 because I really dislike the role. As an additional side effect I can't even attempt some of the challenges because I don't have the perks unlocked or items available on those characters.

I have level 48 or so unlocked so the rift as a whole is a waste. Half of the cosmetics available are a waste since I don't play survivor and the charms are barely worth being available in the rift at all.

Overall, the value is dependent on the individual.

I didn't buy this one, I probably won't buy the next since it will probably be practically identical to this one.

No way for a single role to complete the challenges, recolored charms, no choice in cosmetics for one role or another and a time limit that isn't designed for casual play even though the devs tout that the balance is meant for casual players.

I would have liked the blight currency system be extended to other cosmetics within the battlepass.

You work through the battlepass and earn a currency, then use that currency to purchase a cosmetic specific to that battlepass. Free players could get what we want, and premium payers would get access to all of it. But killer mains wouldn't be stuck with survivor cosmetics and vice versa.

Then just take care of the problem of forcing players to play both roles and allow the players to choose which role they want to complete the challenges with.

    /rant

I can never seem to just talk about the topic...

Just for the record, because I see people claiming this a lot, I don't believe the devs ever said that the Rift was intended for casual players. They said it was designed to be completable by the average player, which is not the same thing. The definition of casual players could be extended to include basically everyone who plays the game, but "completable by the average player" means that only around half of the playerbase are likely to complete it.

    thats probably it

    like youre 100% right

but Im gonna pretend Im finally good at the game <3

    Haha, fair enough 😁

  • It's not the killers, and I'm sorry to say it's probably not your overwhelming skill either. Splinter offerings are secret, but they're used rarely enough that people forget about them. Most likely, the survivors saw the secret offering and are killing themselves or DCing because they don't want to play against a mori.

  • The only time I'll prioritise healing you is if we're playing against an Oni, but only if he doesn't have Yamaoka's Wrath active. If we're against a T3 Myers or Haunted Ground is active or you're exposed for some other reason, or if you have an active RBT on your head, I won't even consider it usually, because it's a waste of my time and yours.

I don't know what you've been through and what makes you think this is the right time to heal, sure, but you don't know what my plans are for this generator, or what perks I have that might be giving me information about what's going on elsewhere. And I cannot assume that you know the game better or have better judgement than I do, especially with matchmaking the way it is.

Usually I'll 99 the gen and then heal you, so if the killer comes at least we can pop the gen right away. Maybe I really want to get this generator done because I have a key, and I'd like to spend the next 16 seconds working towards escaping. Or maybe it's the last generator and I want to activate my Adrenaline. There are so many variables that you might not be privvy to, so as much as others perhaps shouldn't assume that they know best about when healing is appropriate, the same applies equally to you.

  • So you're saying that the only add-ons that are problematic or overpowered are the ones that basically no one ever uses because they're so... let's be charitable and say "limited in their usability"?

    You're having us on, right?

  • If by a mouse controller you just mean a mouse (and not some newfangled piece of hardware I've never heard of), I don't believe the console version of the game supports mouse or keyboard. If your mouse will somehow work on console, I'd be surprised but I guess go for it, but I wouldn't recommend using any third-party software to make it work since that could potentially get you banned.

  • Are you sure that you (a) had the challenge equipped, (b) had the Dark Sense perk equipped, and (c) were working on at least 4 different generators in the match at the time that they were completed?

I saw some that said "available in ___ outfit" so I just assumed, but possibly not, I haven't actually checked tbh.

For the record, the Rift cosmetics aren't available in the Store, and won't be for at least another 6 months. The "Available in X Outfit" thing just means that they are part of a set (with other Rift cosmetics) and not a standalone piece. However, some of the cosmetics in the Rift (such as the Huntress' cat mask, for example) are recolours of items currently available in the Store.

I didn't know it was possible to have a bald Hag. Which hair is that?

  • The matchmaking does suck at the moment, but as they mentioned they are implementing a temporary solution for the next week or two to tide everyone over during the holidays, and will be looking into more permanent solutions when they get back next year.

There is also currently a bug with matchmaking in which the system sometimes receives incorrect rank information from a killer, causing them to be matched with survivors far outside their rank, so that could be what you're having issues with. The devs are aware of this, and will be looking into fixing it after the holidays.

No, Freddy is not a part of the base-game for DBD (Switch Version).

This seems to just be an error with the Switch versions patch notes, since he's not in the Switch version of DBD.

So no, you won't be seeing him in the Switch version when you boot it up, same with LeatherFace and Quinton.

The only thing that the Switch version has from LeatherFace, Quinton, and Freddy, is that the Switch version has their perks in the Shrine of Secrets... that's it. They themselves are not in the Switch versions base-game, sorry.

You're right about Freddy, but according to the 3.4.0 Release Info, Leatherface the character is now available in the ingame store on Switch. The DLC itself may not be in the Nintendo Store yet, though.

Against potatoes sure. On a decent map sure. With a viable killer sure. But thats a lot of variables that need to go right.

With any killer, and if it were only against potatoes that they were able to win, they wouldn't be able to do it consistently as I described. Map RNG can work against you, sure, but that's the case for both sides and has nothing to do with whether Ruin is an essential perk.

Haha, I wish I got sneak peaks at the next chapter! No, I just thought of that because it's a term people sometimes use to refer to a woman who lures men to her on false (usually sexual) pretences and then punishes them for their gullibility, like the sirens of Greek mythology.

    Does a Mori not work?

I made it to tier 70 and then went back for some

Killer challenges.. I had a pink mori, NOED, Blood Warden, Bitter Murmur, and BBQ on Hillbilly.

Everyone was hooked once before the first gen was done so I was careful and hooked two survivors for their second time with 3 gens left.

I decided to Mori Nea and basically chainsaw sprint around the Temple map and leave anyone I downed on the floor to milk the game a bit and not accidentally kill anyone else before the endgame.

Then the last gen popped, NOED was still active so I found Meg and downed her, then someone opened the exit gate which triggered The Endgame Collapse. I downed Jane and hooked her for her second hook and made my way over to the exit gate to watch Claudette run face first into the Blood Warden wall.. Mori’d Claudette and Jane died on the hook.

I found Meg before she bled out and I carried them to the exit and let them go.

I just assumed a sacrifice is a sacrifice but I had no clue a Mori and hook wouldn’t be enough. I guess when I go again I’ll just hook or get the timer to run out.

I even did my best to make it seem like I only had a green Mori to help avoid any disconnecting lol

As far as the game, and if we want to go lore-level on it, the Entity, is concerned, moris and sacrifices are both kills, but a mori (or a "kill by one's own hand", which includes kills using Rancor, Tombstone Myers, etc.) is not a sacrifice. A mori will only work in progressing a challenge if the challenge asks you to "kill by your own hand" or "kill by any means".

The only kills which count as sacrifices are killing someone on a hook, or allowing them to be taken by the Entity after the EGC timer runs out. It's worth noting, however, that for this challenge you have to sacrifice them on a hook. I suspect the reason why an EGC sacrifice doesn't count towards the challenge is because it technically doesn't happen during the EGC, but after it.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/940429#Comment_940429

I dont agree with you there, you are endangering the team by borderline just commiting suicide and yeah there is no advantage for the hooked player not be unhooked but ... there is also no advantage to being unhooked.

Infact, and this is entirely my personal view, I hate seeing survivors run for a rescue when the killer is right there, downing me again and hooking me again when im probably just on the hook to gain some struggle points and buy others time so they can get the door or a gen done or something.

(the devs once spoke of the option to kick a survivor in the face if they tried to unhook you when you did not want to be unhooked, but that could lead to some toxic scenarios so I get why its not in)

There are potential advantages to being unsafely unhooked, though. You might have DS and/or Unbreakable (the latter of which could come into play if the killer downs you and then goes after the rescuer), or a Styptic Agent you could use. Or, of course, your rescuer could have BT, or the killer could screw up and hit you while you still have invincibility frames from the unhook, giving you a chance to get away. Basically, as long as you're on the hook, you have zero chance of surviving without outside assistance. As soon as you're unhooked, your chances of survival rise. They may not rise by much, but they're no longer zero.

While it's true that sometimes going for an unsafe rescue is suicidal, that is not always the case, and there is no way for the game to reliably tell the difference between a bad play and a seemingly suicidal but actually great play. There are just too many variables. So hook rescues in general should be at least somewhat incentivised, but safe rescues much more so.

  • @ZoneDymo said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/940409#Comment_940409

Well getting unhooked and immdiately rehooked because it wasnt safe just gives the killer more points for no reason plus you (the unhooker) is wasting time doing that, much better to finish up gens or opening a door.

There is at best as much reason not to unhook as there is to unhook.

If they are going to be dead or stage 2 right after anyway, well then handle that as is best.

That's why I specified that there is no advantage for the hooked player to not be unhooked in that situation. For the rescuer, obviously they are making themselves more vulnerable to attack or even to being grabbed by the killer.

If anything, as I also mentioned in my comment, the fact that the rescuer is placing themselves in danger is all the more reason to award at least some points for an unhook, even an "unsafe" one.

  • I will, assuming I complete the Rift again (which seems likely, since I didn't have much trouble with it this time).

By the way, which do you prefer me calling you, Fibi or Jean. XD

Jean is weird, lol. Everyone I know online calls me Fibi.

  • I can't think of a single situation in which it's better (for the hooked player, at least) not to unhook someone if the alternative is letting them die or get to second stage. Even if that means unhooking them in the killer's face. Given that, and the personal risk that unhooking is, I think players should receive at least some points for unhooks to incentivise altruism, but they should get more points in the "Safe Hook Rescue" category than they do in the "Hook Rescue" category. Like 500 for the rescue, and 1000 if it's safe.

Hey, this is just me being curious(I'm on PS4 so this hunt really doesn't matter to me but I'm happy for the rest of you) are all the codes found and if yes, why is it still pinned?

Yes, they've all been found and redeemed. My guess would be that they're still up either because the mods just haven't taken them down yet, or because they can't take banners down once they're up. The former is more likely.

  • In short: consider situations from your opponent's point of view before you accuse them of bad sportsmanship, and read the rules before you report anyone.

Also, disconnecting is bannable, but not reportable. I know you might know that already, but not everyone does, so it's important to make the distinction.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/19450/game-rules-and-report-system#latest

  • There is no cross-play between PC and PS4 (or Xbox, or Switch) currently. That means you can't add players from other platforms as friends or play games with them.

However, the developers are currently looking into the possibility of introducing cross-play, so it may become a reality in the future. No confirmation yet about when that will be, though.

  • Not saying you're wrong, as this likely is a factor for many, but just for the record, I have two computers, a gaming desktop and a laptop that runs DBD at about 10 fps on the low graphics at 0% resolution. I have never considered Ruin to be OP, even when playing on the laptop. Even if you can't hit great skill checks, you can still hit good ones and power through. Usually, you will still make progress unless you get really unlucky. Or you can just find the totem, which is what I usually do.

Do killer internet being bad is a factor on this? No idea how servers work.

Since every time I play killer it's normal and people kept pulling dead hard every time but when I do its I get the exhaustion effect lmao

That can have an effect, although this can happen even if the killer's connection is no worse than yours. Basically, the servers prioritise the killer's connection, so unless the killer has really bad latency, generally whatever happens on their screen is what the servers will register as having happened. This means that a lot of the time everything can look normal to the killer, but the survivors will see things like hits from two metres away, or Dead Hard activating and then ending up on the ground anyway. (Incidentally, this is also why, as killer, you see survivors activating DH normally, but as survivor it seems like it doesn't work half the time.)

  • Also, The Trapper doesn't need nerfs. Cutting off survivors' options is the entire point of his power, and really the only thing he's got going for him.

And saying that reducing the number of traps he has available will benefit him makes no sense. By that logic, we should just remove all his traps so he doesn't have to waste time placing them.

    Thank you @Fibijean

    No worries 👍️

  • The challenge has two completion conditions: (1) Have Unnerving Presence equipped, and (2) Don't let any gates get opened. That's all that needs to happen for the challenge to work.

What that means is you can do it by killing everyone before the doors open, but you will also complete the challenge if one survivor, or even all 4 survivors for that matter, escape through the hatch, or if someone disconnects, or if they 99 the gates but die, leave or DC before they're actually opened.

  • The Rift ends on the 7th at 11AM ET. If you're at tier 6 now, I don't think it's physically possible for you to finish the Rift in two days.

It may technically be possible for you to complete all the challenges, which will get you to probably somewhere around tier 50. I would estimate that it would take you somewhere between 17 and 25 hours of pure in-match time to do so, and if you factor in queue times probably more like 30 hours. So if you played the game for 30 hours from the 5th to the 7th (or 8th, depending on your region) and got through challenges quickly, you might get to tier 50.

I can give you specific advice on particular challenges, but if you want general advice, I would say just customise your build to the challenge, be willing to prioritise the challenge over the win, and do the survivor challenges in a SWF if possible because having your teammates work with you make them so much easier. Also you should use killer for all the neutral challenges (except the emblems ones, for which you should use whichever role you're best at).

1 … 72 73 74 75 76 … 132
