  • Are we just going to gloss over the fact that Epic was already an industry giant with at least two hugely successful franchises under its belt before Fortnite was even released?

  • If it's a master challenge, I'm happy to let them get the challenge, but I don't usually farm. I just deliberately put myself in dangerous positions. Particularly if they seem to be trying to get EGC sacrifices or Six Feet Under, since I know those ones are hard to get. I've had a couple of killers who I allowed to kill me for those challenges that said something to the effect of "Thank you so much, you have no idea how long I've been trying to do that" in post-game chat, which always makes me feel like my sacrifice was worth it.

  • I don't think Dwight would ever leave a teammate behind.

  • @DRG_Kayen said:

Not at all, in fact I'd like to see any kind of actual attempt at penalizing toxic players, soft bans, heck a firm email stating something to the effect of don't do this, but again they don't do anything. Perm-bans are a last resort not a first.

How do you know they didn't do anything if this is the first time you've seen the players in question since you reported them two weeks ago? For all you know, they could have received a warning or even a temporary ban in that time.

Not using sound is kinda like being deaf in the game.

That's true... but I'm not sure what your point is. There are portability-related reasons not to use sound on mobile, but who would voluntarily play a game on PC or console without sound?

  • @Angelicus23 said:

Totally agree. You also missed that you can also change the fps cap and the brightness.

@Fibijean about your comment, don't just defend devs on everything of this post, because if the main dbd did these same things, it would just end even better. Also, the winter chill is not really meant for beta testers, the game was suposed to be released way before of the cosmetics.

I wasn't just mindlessly defending the devs, I even said I didn't know why some of these ideas aren't part of the main game. I was just trying to give a constructive response to the question in the OP, "Why is the main game not adapting some of the good ideas from the dbd mobile team?"

  • As others said, each Archives releases with a mid-chapter patch, and I believe the Archives are supposed to release every 90 days. That would mean that the next Archives will be released 20 days after this Rift closes, which will be at the very end of January. Tuesday the 28th seems like the most likely date, but I'm not a developer so take that estimate with a large grain of salt.

  • Couldn't possibly say. All we have so far is a few teasers, we don't even have the full details of his new power and add-ons yet (although we will in a couple of weeks). Even then, it will be difficult to rank him definitively before we've actually had a chance to play him.

"it's not meant as deaf support"

Who care what its meant for? It obviously will work as deaf support, doesn't matter what it was planned for at the start. Therefore they should implement it to give deaf players a little bit of support.

It matters because you were using it to make the case that the mobile devs are "better" (more competent, or more considerate of their players) than the DBD devs. In the case of "deaf support", there was a practical reason for the inclusion of that feature which had only to do with the platform on which the game is based.

What does needing money have anything to do with shard skins?

I think the theory is that they make them difficult to get through ordinary game time in order to make buying them with real money seem like the easier and more appealing option.

  • You can't punish people for wanting to play with their friends. It would be detrimental to the overall player experience and to the growth of the game.

Also, the devs have already said that they have different plans for balancing SWF (bridge the gap between SWF and solo, and then balance killers around that).

  • @PigNRun said:

Costumes will be available for shards and auric cells in the store. Winners will get theirs for free. The price will be equivalent to the Very Rare rarity cosmetics; 1,080 cells (full outfit) or 21,600 shards.

That's interesting, can you link me to the source you got that from?

The developers said before they want to level the playing field between solo survivors and SWF. Having a totem counter is perfect for bridging this gap because it doesn't give SWF any more information than they already have and it gives solo survivors a lot of information.

Currently, if I want to win, why should I play solo?

I don't disagree with you. I never said that a totem counter shouldn't be implemented, or that the devs wouldn't want to do so. I was just trying to explain why it's a good idea to think even what appear to be great design decisions through carefully before implementing them. For all we know, they're planning it for the mid-chapter patch. But it's never as simple as "wow, that's a great idea, into the game it goes".

  • They might have gone to sleep, it was pretty late for some places in the world. Or maybe they had real life stuff to attend to - it is the holidays, after all.

At any rate, all posting it here is going to do is get you that third strike, it's not going to help your jail get appealed. Be patient, speak to the mods about it, and see if they can resolve it. They're much more likely to listen if they don't see you making a fuss about it on the forums, which as I mentioned is not the right place for it.

If the mod in question doesn't respond within the next 12-24 hours, you can contact a community coordinator via Discord. Their contact information can be found in this post here: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/87167/community-team-contact-info#latest

  • That seems strange, but I wouldn't discuss it here. That could get you another strike if you're not careful. The best thing to do would be to (calmly and courteously) take it up in private with the mod that jailed you

  • It's annoying and not much fun for the survivor, but it's not against the rules. One could even argue that there's a valid strategic reason to tunnel flashlight users and hook saboteurs out of the game early, since both can be detrimental to the killer's objective.

  • @Yixuan said:

I am trying my best here, I am hella mad that i lost the game cause of her while the whole team was green and yellow ranks and I was gonna win easily.

I understand your frustration, but you don't need to be worried about your computer crashing as far as punishing the hacker goes. The other player's Steam ID is not required (or even requested) when submitting a report. Refer to the post I linked in my comment above for details on the correct way to go about reporting someone and what kind of evidence is needed.

  • Are you aware that you don't need to complete 4 generators yourself, you just need to be on the generator when it gets completed?

  • ^ And/or cut the price by strategically buying DLCs when they're on good sales.

  • Reporting her in the post-game screen was the right thing to do, but in order to back up a report for something serious like hacking, and actually get the player in question punished, you would probably need to submit additional video evidence (that is, a recording of the gameplay demonstrating her violation of the rules). You can do so through a support ticket (https://support.deadbydaylight.com).

Sharing her name, or even part of it, on the forums won't do anything towards getting her banned, and is actually in violation of forum rules, so I would advise you to edit that part out of your post.

You can find more information about bannable offences and the correct procedures for reporting them here: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/19450/game-rules-and-report-system#latest

  • Forum rules don't apply to the game. If this was a serious question, that's your answer.

If this wasn't a serious question, may I refer you to the rule (which you've clearly read) which asks that users avoid posting bait on the forums.

  • Dead By Daylight is a pretty huge game considering how relatively few files there are to download and how mediocre it is graphically. It's just not well-optimised, I suppose.

On my computer, the DBD game folder is about 30GB, so make sure you have at least that much space free on your machine. If you're saying that the initial download is 15GB (it's been so long since I downloaded it originally that I don't remember whether that was my experience), then if anything you should be prepared for the game to generate more files and increase in size after you install and run it for the first time.

  • Killers should have the opportunity to defend their totems. Smart killers prioritise their objective over their totem. Smart survivors should do the same when it comes to camping.

If it's Ruin and they're hard-camping the totem, power through. Hit good skill checks and deal with the regression, you'll get it done eventually. It's not like they're exerting any pressure, so it shouldn't matter how long it takes to get the generators done.

Same with Devour Hope - as long as they're camping the totem, they're not getting any use out of the perk. Ignore them, do the generators and get out.

  • The servers have to prioritise the killer's connection. That was one of the biggest problems when they first came out, because while latency is mildly annoying for survivors, for killers like Huntress and Plague especially it makes the game virtually unplayable. Zero latency for everyone would be ideal, obviously, but as long as it exists, it affects killers much worse than it does survivors.

yeah, i mean not right at this minute, ofcourse they have christmas holidays aswell. but this has been a thing since 2 weeks ago. I thought they'd atleast mention it.

They have mentioned it, it was addressed during the livestream they had while the DC penalty test was ongoing (which, by the way, was only a week ago). They seem to have a fair idea of what's causing the problems; they've implemented what they're hoping is a temporary solution over Christmas, and when they get back they're going to look into fixing it properly.

Mainly joking, but unironically those are the most important things that define a good player. If they have a working brain, the rest comes natural.

If red ranks were composed of people who can hit their greats and actually run the killer, it would represent skill to a certain extent. Definitely more than now

To an extent, but nowhere near fully. Those aren't the things that define a good player, they're the things that define a player who is good at a particular playstyle. A good player is a player who frequently meets the win condition. The things you mentioned are one way of going about that, and arguably the most effective way with the current meta, but they're not the only way and shouldn't be treated as such.

  • We've received heaps of free cosmetics over the years, especially when the game was just starting out. Also, I believe the Winter Chill collection is supposed to be a reward for Beta testers. Be glad we didn't get anything like that, or people would be complaining about exclusivity and platform favouritism even more than they already are.

While the terror radius indicator could be useful for deaf players, it's not meant as deaf support. It's meant to compensate for the fact that it's a mobile game, meaning that players may often be playing in areas where it's not possible for them to play close attention to ingame sounds.

Being able to see other survivors' loadout in the lobby would be nice, but I'm guessing that comes down to just different decisions made by different dev teams. Perhaps Mobile doesn't have the same problems with lobby dodging and matchmaking that DBD has.

As for cells and XP, my guess would be that there are specific design-related reasons for that, but having not played the game myself I don't know for sure what those reasons would be.

  • None of those things fulfill the win condition, or even directly contribute to it. This would make the game miserable and boring for both killers and survivors, since any survivor wanting to rank up would just have to bring Stake Out, an exhaustion perk or two and a flashlight.

(I'm taking this post seriously, even though I suspect you might be joking, out of respect for the possibility that you're not.)

  • Depends how badly I want to survive. If I have a great item, or a challenge I'm trying to complete, or some other reason why I really want to escape, I'm more than willing to let other people sacrifice themselves to save me. Most of the time, though, I wouldn't expect it. I'll spend that time struggling to keep the killer on me and buy my team time, and if they make moves like they want to save me I'll just let go.

  • As great as this would be, it's a huge amount of work for the developers. Below is a response from one of the devs on a similar thread a few weeks ago:

  • @hlollis218 said:

I get that but is there a way to do killer vs survivors?

On the same machine? No. Even for that, you would need to be playing on two different consoles and party up online in a custom game.

  • Apparently, there is a bug at the moment where the system receives incorrect ranking information from the killer and so matches them with inappropriately ranked survivors. That seems like what's happening here. The devs know about the problem, and it's currently being looked into.

  • I don't think the altruism experiment had anything to do with the ranking system. That said, there are plans, according to the Year 4 Roadmap, for some kind of rank-related rework. We don't have any further information about it, but it will probably be happening in the first half of 2020.

    image.png
  • As far as I'm aware, the game does not support local multiplayer. In order for two friends to play together at once, you would need to get the game on two different Xboxes and party together online.

  • We have had updates since the contest, most notably in the October livestream and verbally since then from Peanits.

They are definitely being worked on, and well on the way to completion. We have no word yet on exactly when they will be released or how they will be priced when they do, but they have not been forgotten and will be coming to the game in the future.

  • Almo, like all the devs, is on Christmas holidays, so you're not likely to get an official answer. Since they haven't mentioned anything about an ingame sale, probably best to assume there won't be one.

With the rescue bug you try hit the survivor but u hit the hooked one and that's the moment that instead of having an exchange you get two injured survivors.

From what the devs said in the livestream, it's not a cheat, they consider it to be a legitimate tactic on the part of the survivors to bait the killer into hitting the hooked survivor instead.

  • Welcome to the game (and the forum)! I hope you enjoy yourself 😊

As with any community, you may encounter a fair bit of negativity, but don't let that get you down. DBD may have its flaws, but at the end of the day we're all here because we love the game.

We have a section on the forums containing player-made guides to the game, many of which are specifically for new players (https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/categories/gameplay-guides). The pinned guides at the top are the winners of the Beginners' Guide Contest which was held a few months ago (https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/87026/community-beginners-guide-contest-winners#latest).

You can also find plenty of guides on YouTube both for getting started and for mastering more advanced mechanics.

If you have any questions about the game or need advice, feel free to drop by the Ask The Community section of the forums (https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/categories/ask-a-question) where you'll find lots of experienced players who are happy to help.

The official wiki is also a great resource for in-depth and accurate information about pretty much any feature of the game, from perks to killer powers to lore (https://deadbydaylight.gamepedia.com/Dead_by_Daylight_Wiki).

Finally, if you're looking for people to play with, we have a Looking For Players section on the forum which is categorised by platform (https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/categories/looking-for-players).

  • Yeah, once you reach tier 70, you don't receive Rift Fragment rewards from the Tome anymore. You can still gain bloodpoints and lore fragments from completing challenges, though.

Personally, I paced myself for that reason, so that I wouldn't finish the Rift before completing all the challenges, since I wanted to make the most of the easy Rift progress gained thereby.

The advantage, if you've completed the Rift already, is that there's no time limited aspect to the Tome challenges anymore, so you can take as long as you like to complete them all, and you can go back to playing the game normally in the meantime without having to worry about how far and how quickly you're progressing.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

strange when I play killer I can still hit the survivors on hook yes they did remove it but now it is back for me...

You're right, they added it back. I'm pretty sure they were discussing it in the last livestream.

  • I think pretty much everyone agrees that the killer adepts should require a 4K, not a Merciless Victory as defined by the emblem system. You were right that they've said trophies are pretty much impossible to change, but they can work around that by changing how the game defines a Merciless Victory. It might happen in the future, it's just not top priority at the moment.

Here are the most recent comments that I've seen by a developer on the topic:

    achievement-changes.PNG achievement-changes-2.PNG
  • My guess would be that it's because, just like the people in this thread, they're still trying to decide whether it should be implemented and, if so, how.

Just because a feature is highly requested doesn't mean it should just automatically be added to the game. In fact, that's all the more reason to take some time figuring it out so they know they're doing it properly and for the right reasons.

  • You mean having every hook on the map broken at once?

Leaving aside the basement, and assuming that the killer isn't using Hangman's Trick, the answer is yes.

If you 99% every hook first, even without SWF you would probably then be able to break every hook one by one with Saboteur in the 3-4 minutes it takes the first hook to respawn (hooks respawn after 180 seconds by default, 210 seconds if broken using T3 Saboteur). With coordinated SWF, this would absolutely be achievable, since each survivor would only have to break 3-5 hooks within the timeframe.

  • I would argue that at least 4 of the 7 hex perks - Ruin, NOED, Devour Hope and Haunted Ground are "strong enough" as they are.

I'm personally a fan of Huntress Lullaby, but I can understand why many people find it underwhelming and wouldn't be against seeing it get a bit of a buff. Third Seal and Thrill of the Hunt are definitely not powerful enough to justify the risk of being hex perks.

  • There's no PTB for the closure of the Rift. The current Rift should close on 8 January 2020 at 11AM ET.

I believe the next Rift is due to open 20 days later, which would be on 28 January 2020. This will likely be the same date as the mid-chapter patch releases, meaning that the mid-chapter PTB will probably happen 6 days after the current Rift closes.

Of course, this is just going off past patterns, as no official date for the mid-chapter patch or the PTB has been announced to my knowledge.

  • I've heard scathing reviews.

It seems like the sort of thing that would be extremely difficult to do well, without just making it look really stupid.

That's often the case when people try to translate one form of media directly into another with no particular regard for either. It doesn't turn out well, which is why things need to be adapted, not directly translated, because what works in one medium may not have the same effect in another.

In the case of Cats, I'm guessing one of the problems was that people can suspend their disbelief much more easily with a stage musical than with a film, because people are used to films trying to imitate life. And when they can't, and you can clearly see it's just a bunch of famous people jumping around in catsuits, it falls rather flat.

I definitely agree, when you say their's difference between casual and average players. However, I feel like that's not the problem in my opinion because everyone already knew what the developer's goal was for the Rift (which is a hour of play time per day).

Depending on the type of player you are and your preference, an hour of play time can be seen as average or casual. My theory is, based on forum experience, the majority of the community put a lot of time into Dead by Daylight. Therefore, the community sees a hour of play time as casual. 😁

Sure, my point is it's about representing what the devs said fairly. The devs did say that their goal was that the Rift should be completable with an hour of playtime per day. If we want to criticise them on that basis, that's fair enough. They did not say the Rift should be completable by casual players, many people just inferred that from the former statement. So we shouldn't criticise them saying "they said casual players should be able to complete it" when they didn't.

It's dangerous for people to be repeating their own inferences as though that's what was actually said, because it's distorting and misrepresenting the facts, especially with something like "casual" that obviously has a very broad definition. That's why I try to be very careful about doing that myself, and correct it when I do see it, because that's how things like "the devs are liars, they promised this" often start.

  • I don't believe they've specified whether charms will be available in the Store later on or not. They definitely said that "most" of the Rift cosmetics would arrive in the Store at some point, which could mean that charms will be excluded.

If I had to guess, I'd say no, but I don't think it's something we have a definitive, official answer on at this point.

1 … 71 72 73 74 75 … 132
