  • As long as the Doll is apart of it in some capacity then I'd still be invested

Think of Twins, Victor is identical to Chucky in a few ways which is weird to think of but Twins is a concept for how a Child's Play killer COULD work.

I have no problem adding...well, anyone to a game as long as it's organic. A good story is a good story.

I do understand however why developers and writers would approach this with a lot of hesitancy - as it can go badly wrong and we've seen it backfire time and time again.

A good example of this would be the popular manga 'My Hero Academia'. Manga/anime has a long history of including gay/bi/trans individuals, but is often criticized for the way they are portrayed - often as an 'Okama' - a stereotypical, effeminate (and usually obvious) male dressed in female clothing.

In a late issue of MHA, a character called Mineta expressed his love for the main character - revealing him as canonically gay/bi. This provoked an overwhelmingly negative reaction. Mineta is the typical manga comic relief - perpetually pervy to the point of being a pest. The author got an enormous amount of backlash for including an LGBT+ character, but making it the wrong character.

    It's a minefield.

I must admit, I wonder how people would've felt if the newest survivor (The CIA agent who was involved in war crimes or something like that) was also one of the LGBT characters BHVR had planned to create.

Wouldn't bother me personally but would it bother others, I wonder?

i dont agree with you on this point , as i said Sexuality or religion dont need any representation on any game , it's not healthy for anyone and there will be always someone who is not happy with the game AS IT and you just proved it.

Hey fellow forum goer, let me put it this way for you:

People wish to see a character who has an orientation or identity that's either the same as theirs or in the same vein because it either allows them to better project themselves onto the media they consume or they think that kind of inclusion is a step forward in showing people that these things are normal and apart of everyday life. Which, theoretically helps teach people acceptance and tolerance.

There's various other reasons too, like just being curious what BHVR might come up with (I'm in this camp personally).

We have male and female characters - because men and women play video games and are a normal part of everyday life. If there was no men or women in the game then people would ask why, right? It's sort of similar.

I don't think wanting these things included is bad as long as it's done well and even if it's not done well the problem won't be 'This character is X' it'll be "This character is badly written"

Nah, it's happening to me when suvivor doesn't use 'Dead Hard' too. That's why I think it's a bug.

There's only two kinds of validation that I'm aware of

The Dead Hard validation and the Pallet validation. Those are the only instances that seem to cause the whole 'hit, scream but no health state change' thing. It's possible there's something else but from my experience those are the only things that seem to cause it

There is a bug with plague's vomit hits not registering properly as well, that's the only other thing I can think of

  • Hi there

Semi-recently they added hit validation to the popular perk 'Dead Hard'

That's what you're seeing, you're swinging, the survivor is dead harding and the server is validating it

  • ngl with Circle of Healing legion is basically not even a threat anymore

Like yeah he can injure you quickly but you can heal it off just as quick if he doesn't commit to you + it's not wasting your team's time because you can heal yourself in 16 seconds

  • The only thing I'd change is I'd make it so it awards the perk users some BP in either objective or altruism for every skillcheck that their perk 'saves'.

IDK just a neat little reward for running the perk and using it. Perks like Appraisal and Built to Last give you BP for using them so why not?

  • But I like getting basically free cosmetics every few months

I bought the first rift and haven't spent a penny on it since

  • It's sad because I like RPD as a concept for a map, I think with some work it could be a good map but...

Ttake every problem all other indoor maps have:

    • God pallets
    • Claustrophobic hallways leading to boring chases
    • Confusing layouts
    • Bad generator spread (For BOTH sides, I'll explain in a moment)
    • Unfair secondary objective spawns (Totems, Jigsaw boxes)
    • And finally - starting certain killers off with a huge disadvantage as soon as the match begins

You take all those problems and put them on steroids. That is RPD.

    • The god pallets on the map are both frustrating but also somehow necessary given the fact literally almost every other pallet is unsafe
    • The Entire map is a hallway apart from the middle and crashed helicopter section
    • The layout is incredibly confusing even to those like myself who played RE2. I know the general layout but knowing how to get from Point A (One side of the map) to Point B (E.G a hooked survivor) is still a chore
    • Generator spreads that are both extremely unfair for killer (Gens being countries apart) But also RNG deciding "Screw it, the middle part is gonna have two gens right next to each other."
    • I've heard there are 34 possible totem spawn locations, If it wasn't for the GUARANTEED totem in the S.T.A.R.S office, I wouldn't even know where to begin looking. I'm also convinced this map is what got headpop pig nerfed; the jigsaw box spread is ridiculous and still can lead to headpops without the addons
    • Any projectile based killer has to deal with constant corners. Hillbilly's main strength of mobility is completely neutered on this map too

Killer voices are definitely louder. They do. This is very true. The boons getting nerfed hard from PTB and not much was said.

Boons weren't nerfed hard at all. That's blatantly false

All they did was remove stacking (Which would literally break the game and could result in game's being held hostage), Reduced the range SLIGHTLY and added a downside to blessing a hex perk so survivors have to make a choice: Remove it quickly or bless it and risk being interrupted

They are still incredibly strong and are about to become even stronger next chapter.

I'm sorry, but I feel that there's a line to be distinguished between having an opinion and having argumentative posts. Many of the threads and comments they've made are objectively wrong, dismissive of valid counter points and almost always on hotly debated topics with certain word choices I feel are intended to get a rise out of people. There are also certain ways they conduct themselves on the forums. For example creating contentious threads such as this one, and then not even participating in the discourse. Most likely because they are aware of the reaction they'll get from people. A quick look through near all their discussions will show they have made countless controversial posts. And almost always of which are in denial of the actual state of the game, or actual issues. You don't become synonymous for being a troll among the community simply by having a differing opinion.

Honestly the only problem i have is when threads like this are made, then the OP just stops responding and goes and makes another thread in like a day or two and repeats the process

    These aren't discussions

  • I'd appreciate threads like this more if people actually engaged in discussion and explained what kind of evidence they have to back up their assertions

Feels like a lot of people just talk past each other

  • @StarLost said:

    • What? As far as I know, it doesn't actually prolong the chase at all. As you are blinding me, I'm breaking the pallet. If it does, then it's a tiny gain. It's BM because it's entirely unavoidable, and the 'blind' effect is still known to give people headaches (it certainly does for me). Also, where have I berated anyone? For the record: proxy camping and 'tunneling' (a word that nobody can even really agree on what it means) aren't toxic. Facecamping is pretty toxic, which is why BHVR are adding that new mechanic they mentioned.
    • I don't think I've ever seen a killer give the survivors problems in postgame regarding addons, barring something like 3x BNP, an RPD offering with multiple further hooks offerings. On the other hand, I get it maybe once in every 10 games on killer, no matter if I've brought 2 yellows or two iris.

Also, geez mate. Lighten up. It was a pretty tongue-in-cheek post.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2629563#Comment_2629563

    Thanks, these are good answers.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2629594#Comment_2629594

Ah, the BP gain does make sense. I'm still not sold on it being better than just dropping the pallet and running, but I'm hardly an expert survivor (and at best I'm a solidly intermediate killer). It is bloody annoying though, and if it happens multiple times in a game that's probably my DbD for the day and I'll have to go take a painkiller.

I'll never complain at people for bringing addons/offerings. At worst, I may just AFK the match out (see: multiple further hook addons+Haddonfield/RPD/Badham, or an RPD addon where people are deliberately abusing that bloody office infinite).

I didn't answer with any ill intent or sarcasm

I just gave serious answers since you made a thread asking questions!

  • @StarLost said:

So, as I'm finally creeping up on the big 300 (hours played, probably 225 or so of those on killer), I frequently see survivors do things that I just...don't understand.

    Maybe you can help me.

    1. When I'm chasing you, you seem to love running up somewhere high then dropping down. Unless you have BL, this usually guarantees me an easy hit. Why not just keep running me?
    2. Why do you insist on running around and around a rock rather than just holding 'W' and heading for a loop? It's not like you are slowing me down.
    3. Why do you always insist on getting into lockers right in front of me? Unless you've got Head On or DS, I don't get it.
    4. What is it with you and trying to flashlight me when I'm chasing someone else? It's not going to work and now I know you are there. Wait until I pick them up and it'll sometimes work.
    5. Also, why do you insist on blinding me after a pallet stun? It's BM as hell, and now you've both lost time and have a killer gunning for you.
    6. Why do you always insist on playing grab-ass with me when I'm going to hook someone? If you'd given me a second and stayed out of sight, I'd have walked away. Now you've given me a free hit when you tried to bodyblock me, and I'll probably catch you almost immediately once I've hooked your chum.
    7. Why is it that you insist on DCing or suiciding the first time I hook you? You'll get no BP, probably a penalty and you've just totally screwed over the other 3 of you.
    8. When I knock you down and chase someone, you always crawl off to Narnia then berate me in postgame for slugging when I can't find you. If you wanted me to pick you up, why not stay in the open?
    9. I get why you teabag me when you get an easy 4 out (and I sincerely hope your cat widdles into your PSU while you sleep) but why do you insist on teabagging and flashing me after you drop the pallet? Maybe 3 times in 4, I'll catch you almost immediately.
    10. Why do you give me a hard time about running addons when you're rocking a souped up toolbox or medkit?
    1. Maybe there's no other area left to go/it's a deadzone or maybe it's to hopefully make it to somewhere further away
    2. If you're healthy you can run around the rock, take the hit and then hold W. This, again is usually only when there's nothing else to use
    3. It wastes more of the killers time, forcing them through the animation + it means you can't be slugged as quickly
    4. Survivors who do this are inexperienced or want to be chased. Or both. Maybe they're trying to take aggro for a teammate
    5. Points/Disorientation. It's not BM if it's just being blinded
    6. Points, Archive challenges, Stacks on certain perks or maybe they are a group and trying to protect one another
    7. There's a billion reasons people DC or suicide on hook, too many to list. Typically most of them boil down to "I'm not playing this."
    8. Typically survivors who do this are looking for hatch, but some also hate it when killers slug for the 4k. It is what it is, ignore ppl berating for it
    9. Survivors who do this are just trying to get into your head, tilt you to make you play worse or they're just trying to keep you on them as long as possible
    10. Typically survivors only complain about a few addons, but yeah both sides run busted stuff.

Wraith wasn't psychotic, but Deathslinger most certainly was a psychopath along with Blight. Psychopathy as pop culture portrays it doesn't properly line up with the reality. Slinger was cruel and callous individual in life. Make no mistake that his method of catching bounties was designed to inflicted as much suffering as possible. Even as a child his intellect and creativity were focused into creating torture devices and he had no qualms about solving any slight against him with excessive violence. He also didn't mind lending his services to the prison warden. Blight, was willing to throw as many things away as possible for the sake of his work. He lacks the ability to feel fear and refuses to take responsibility for the consequences of his actions.

    Fair points, well said

  • Thanks to the big man otz, we have a vid to demonstrate

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFUIRwi0IxY

In the time it took Charlotte (who was in the same building as jake) to walk over and pick him up, he had almost recovered to 50% and that's only with unbreakable. Can you imagine this but with Charlotte at more of a distance + with the new boon perk and so on

  • @RakimSockem said:

Slugging is boring. Just hook people and find more fun and better ways to play. Slugging is not a requirement because a killer isn't as strong as you want them to be

But Twins get punished even if they aren't slugging

Like 8 seconds worth of cooldowns just to down 1 person as Victor then swap back. Something like that?

  • Is there any other killer that is punished for using their power correctly like Twins are?

    Serious question

  • @ElusivePukka said:

"Women need a crucible, men are born as problems" is an old literary schema. I disagree with it, but it's ingrained in how a lot of media - especially horror - treats both antagonists and protagonists, and that's currently unlikely to change. Considering we already have egoists claiming you're projecting, you can see why.

As someone who thinks OP is projecting a bit:

No, I think that because it feels like OP completely disregarded the fact that a lot of the male cast of killers are just as messed up/have just as tragic backstories in many cases.

Besides BHVR has tome lore talking about a psychotic woman killer who lures men in and then feeds them to pigs so they're clearly not averse to writing it. Maybe they just had others ideas.

  • combined with the ones you already listed of course:

    Survivor:

    1. Windows of Oppertunity is a meta perk now (IMO)
    2. Sprint Burst
    3. Circle of Healing Sorry I didn't read
    4. Unbreakable
    5. Soul Guard
    6. Kindred (Solo Meta, that is)

    Killer:

    1. Save the Best For Last
    2. Deadlock
    3. No Way Out
    4. Hex: No One Escapes Death
    5. Bamboozle

  • It's ironic, really

Twins in their lore were considered abominations

It seems BHVR seems to share the same sentiment. They've been completely shafted for several updates in a row now while being in a really rough state. Still both in the playing as and against department but certainly more in the former than the latter.

COH would've been the final nail in the coffin but it seems BHVR isn't quite done adding nails yet.

I hope to see some Twins changes soon, I hope to give them a try myself once they are in a better state to play.

  • Many experienced survivors will wait at the exit gate to force the killer to waste time pushing them out if their teammates aren't all out yet. I've legitimately lost kills because I tried to push someone out like that

  • tbh as long as they have a cool design, some fun perks and fit the game's universe - anyone and everyone should be welcome in the fog

I mean hell I hated Trickster on release because of his design but over the months I like his inclusion and I'd be sad if BHVR suddenly put him on the chopping block.

I'm curious to see what BHVR's work with their collaborators on the representation subject brings to the game although to be clear, I think BHVR is more than capable of doing it on their own without outside help. They've given us many iconic and cool characters already that fit many archetypes.

Sure not all of them are homeruns, it's great they're trying to take steps to do it justice.

  • My main issue with the perk is

Outside of cleansing hexes, survivors have no incentive to do bones apart from the threat of NOED/powering up a few perks. Even Hexes can just be overwritten by boons

    so... yeah

  • Either 4 boons + 1 cleansed totem

Or, alternatively - cleanse the bones twice and don't let the killer get to 5 rekindled totems.

  • Don't take this the wrong way but, it feels like you're projecting a bit

We have male killers with tragic or unpleasant stories that don't make them out to be completely psychotic - Wraith, Deathslinger, Hillbilly (To an extent), Oni (To an extent), Blight, Bubba (If you want to count him)

Plus you're doing a disservice to some of the great stories of those characters - namely Plague and Spirit. Spirit's a classic tale of the vengeful ghost and Plague is tragic but not because she's 'helpless' or 'tortured'.

Yeah she sacrifices herself for her people but she's doing it for what are, in her mind, the right reasons and that's what makes her service to the entity all the more tragic. I've always interpeted it as the Plague kills because she sees the Entity has her 'god' and pledged herself to it in order to save her people. Again, there's nothing really tortured or helpless about that.

Hell, she kills someone in her own tome lore before she was even taken

  • See, problem is - a lot of what constitutes being 'fun' in DBD comes down to who feels in control

For a lot of people Killer is 'fun' when they feel in control of the trial. When they are downing people left and right, when they have strong perks up that stop survivors doing generators and so on.

The same goes for survivor, people consider it a lot more 'fun' when they run the killer for a long time and making sure the Killer is in a lose lose situation where they either try to play dirty (In which case, survivor perks come into play) or they try to solder on and play 'fair' in which case they will still lose.

Nobody likes being killed at 5 gens and nobody likes losing 5 gens after 2 chases have happened.

I'm not saying this is 100% how it is, but sometimes when I'm playing Killer I feel like due to some factors outside of my control the match was a lost cause and when I'm playing survivor I'm put in situations where I go down once and I'm basically out the match already; be it because it's an S tier killer tunnelling to get someone dead asap or it's a bubba who's facecamping.

  • The only thing I have concerns about with current spirit is one of the addons that gives you killer instinct when you're near survivors while phasing

I know it's a purple but damn, killer instinct as a mechanic has no counter to it.

  • @Pulsar said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2620048#Comment_2620048

How often do you think Solo Q cleanses all 5 totems?

Also when can you find the time to do all 5 totems when the killer is legitimately facecamping someone to death and they know they can not care about the gens because they have NOED

    There's no winning there

  • I wouldn't run Dead Hard as much if it wasn't one of the few perks that's actually helpful against the S tier killers like Nurse and Blight

it's one of the few things that can buy you some precious time against their oppressive powers

  • Untitled Image

Video of demo on his way home from the Upside down adoption center

  • You need to run tiles really tight and stick to corners, his power is extremely weak against structures that have corners. Instead of running the window on jungle gyms, run the pallet instead

You'll get less value out of it, but he won't be able to use his power effectively

  • There's not much proactive we can do about it, which is sad

There's a few things we can do to avoid cheaters/precautions we can take but none of them are 100% foolproof

  • That's the new dead hard validation

they added it to stop people being exhausted on the ground, it basically puts DH's activation on the server. You'll still see the hit and scream but their DH will go through

  • Best killer perk for discouraging camping is probably Devour Hope as it rewards you massively in the long run if it stays up

As for survivor, BT is #1 but I'd say Camaraderie/Kinship is also a really good anti-camping perk or at the very least it wastes more of the killer's time if they are insistent on camping you. Buys your teammates more time

  • Yeah I wasn't sure on the number, esp because there's addons that add/subtract fountains now

  • @Myla said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2618079#Comment_2618079

Oh damn didn't know about every fountain resetting one all are used . Sucks but I'll keep that in mind

Yeah it's a failsafe so the plague can't just permanently keep all of the survivors injured with no recourse

The only way that'll happen is if the survivors themselves decide to not cleanse and stay permanently sick until the end of the game. Which is what many people will do to stop Plague getting her corrupt purge (Which is extremely oppressive in chase)

You can bring the apple addons to have some corrupt fountains in your backpocket in case of this

  • I think by default there's 5 fountains, 1 starts 'corrupted'

When you puke on survivors, they can get rid of the sickness with the fountains which then turns it into a 'corrupted' fountain. The plague can then walk over to it and drink from it and be given 'corrupt purge' which is the red puke that injures instead of making them sick

If survivors corrupt ALL fountains at once, all of them will revert to normal and you'll be given a single instance of your power - this is to both reset all fountains so survivors aren't stuck permanently injured but it also gives you a chance to use your secondary power in a worst case scenario.

  • Survivors can stack 2nd chance perks (DS, Unbreakable, Soul Guard, Borrowed Time)

Survivors can stack healing perks and quickly undo any damage they get if left alone

Survivors can stack gen speed items and perks like toolboxes, prove thyself and built to last

Comparing exhaustion to gen slowdown makes no sense

  • @Leonardo1ita said:

Will outshine because the devs didn't think about rebalanced older stuff, which is possible sometimes in seconds just buffing numbers.

There are still perks like this is not happening still being hot garbage

I'm convinced This is not Happening will remain unchanged until the game dies, whenever that is

  • It's called 'Power creep' and it's a real concept among a lot of things like card games and video games alike

A lot of newer content will outshine older content. Funnily enough, DBD doesn't suffer too much from Power Creep since some of the strongest perks are, to this day, still free (Dead Hard, Unbreakable, Adrenaline and so on)

They obviously want people to buy the new shiny content though

    Yeah me too

I personally like Yun-Jin as a character, she's a lot more nuanced than the typical survivors who are, for the most part, considered to be good people or at least have morals of some kind

Before she was introduced, the only survivors who were a bit morally gray were either David or Ace. David having worked in debt collection and Ace being a conman of some kind
