Killers and perks are different. An overpowered perk makes every killer overpowered. Y'know? Not saying bbq is overpowered.
And which killer perk since old ruin has been overpowered? Don't say Scourge Hook: Pain res, because that one isn't OP, its just absolutely necessary in todays meta to just keep up a lil bit with all the gens flying by left and right.

Agreed, I absolutely hate these challenges which are just a forced grind for no apparent reason.
Luckily when it was break XX pallets one hawking's existed and it had so many pallets lol.
I'd just like these types of challenges that encourage farming and throwing games made more team friendly
I kid you not, I had just a "destroy 25 pallets" challenge equipped and got send to the game. I didnt`t even try to do clever things and just followed this one survivor all over the map, destroying every dropped pallet. I got the challenge done after just one trial on The Game, which was both, a blessing and a curse, because that map is just so frigging busted.

It does show the gigantic imbalance in favor of killers during events. If a killer tryhards, there is nothing survivors can do.
Yet on the other side, if a killer doesn`t try hard, then survivors wont even let him have one hook. I hadn't a single fun, normal game this event, let alone a casual one.

Thanks, this clears things up a bit. I got my third one by now. Yeah, its just the start and I already

My best advice is dont actively look for them. That way if you dont find them you're not disappointed. When you find them it'll be a pleasant surprise. Worst case scenario play killer and throw the match looking for it. You got till the 30th so dont sweat it so much
Yeah, its just the start and I already got 1/4 of the special cosmetics, so no need to sweat it, but I just wanted to clear up how the event works.
Honestly, the biggest issue is that the survivors sweat it like mad this event. I had not a single game with just some fooling around and playing around, only 2-3 gens the first minute and keep that pace. But from what I am hearing, killer aint much better :P
-
@Crazewtboy said:
My only issue with the event itself is the envelopes. Half the time the map is so big and I can't even get a full rotation. I have made laps around maps and never found my envelope and it is kind of annoying
So how does this work? Is there a pillar with an invitation for everyone on trial? Is it only for you? Does it move? I am so confused, I played about 6 games but only found one invitation.
-
I second this! It would make for a much more healthy game.

LMAO. Flan is already disabled. I hope just because of a coding error and it not giving the proper blood points and not due to toxicity. ^^

The problem is the killer queue ends out being longer during events already because killer side tends to get more BP, add in being easier to get cosmetic and the waits are even longer. I usually end out playing killer at some point during events just for higher BP games than survivor but I want to play the game not just sit in a lobby waiting for a match.
I'd rather they do what they did during winter/new year events where it doesn't push everyone to play one side even more for the cosmetic reward and doesn't have requirements to make people play even sweatier than normal.
Mostly true, but killer side cosmetic is easier to unlock? We have "hit 5 survivors within 15s from exiting a locker IN A SINGLE TRIAL" vs "escape 1 trial as Haddie". LMAO, whats up with that again? Hitting 5 survivors within 15s would be a fun challenge to farm, but in one single trial? Oof. Once you burst out of a few lockers, survivors will give them a wide berth.

I will back you and your claim and am still hopeful, even though I already had some bad experiences in just 3 games. I remember past events in which I would casually hunt some survivors and everyone was throwing crackers everywhere and walked out with a big phat stack of bloodpoints. Is it really that hard to just enjoy and celebrate? :D
-
Well, during my first three games I went in as casual as possible and brought party streamers. Got genrushed and flashlight blinded at every opportunity. Even broke chase after hiting a survivor who came for the rescue to let him unhook another one, but they were all dead set on sweating it. Smh.
-
It makes sense that the outfits would be for the newest characters, wouldn't it? And I love it, because if gives you the opportunity to gain some alternative outfits for characters that just entered the scene, whats not to love? Most people have more outfits for David or Meg or Dwight then they can play games a night.

They also just need to adjust the pipping system for survivors. It's far easier for killers to pip since all their emblems flow into each other, survivors have to go out of their way to do a bunch of everything.
You are partly right, but as the killer you can't play too well, as anyone learns that tries to do some of the killer adept challenges. With nearly all instadown killers you get punished if you use your power too often and too well, because then you get fewer chase points etc. There is even poor old Plage, whoms power actively fights against her getting the achievment. Also, anyone dying on hook and not getting rescued will screw over your devotion ranking. Its all pretty banged up and busted, tbh, no matter the side. For killers they should have changed it to a 3k+hatch or 4k as the requirement, a long time ago, but because of how strikt playstation network is about changes to their trophies, they can`t do a thing about it.

Things like totems, green glyphs etc. Should be a group effort, even if you increase the number you need if someone in the trial you're in gets them it works towards your challenge as well.
12 green glyphs, I'm on 8 and played 20 games... its challenges like this that cause people to farm and throw the game just to complete them and I dont want to be one of those people.
I try play for fun and progress challenges as I can but 20games and not even done because I either dont have the chance or they're already all gone is just stupid.
I'd rather 25 and have the challenges share especially ones like this..
I feel you, the 4 blood dept one was especially grueling, or the "destroy 50 pallets/damage a gen" ... lmao 50? Oof. And the green glyphs now are pretty obnoxious to do.

Definitely time for depiping to go. I struggle to have fun playing a lot of the time because I have to always worry about whether I did enough to pip
Yeah. Back some time when you could see other peoples grades you had lots of posts saying "how is that possible? Me poor Ash 4 killer against Iri 1 death squad!!!1", and people would always come forth and explain that a) grade had nothing to do with MMR (true) and b) that it was just a function of time invested since last rank reset (false) and didn't denote any skill at all (false).
What this people fail to grasp is that you still have to play consistently good in order to reach the higher reaches; nay, not only play consistently good, but play 4-5 games back to back consistently good, without RNG or MMR screwing you over. Its really frustrating when you work your way up to 4 pips and then a series of bad games send you back to zero.
I would really, really prefere it a lot if grades were indeed just a function of time played. You wouldn't have to sweat your ass off, but still rank up over time naturally by the medium to good games you got, without the constant fear and frustration of losing it all.

I am two different people when playing to get Iri 1 for BP reward.
Before I hit Iri 1: NO mercy Twins, BUbba
After I hit Iri 1: hey lets play Clown and watch me 360 hook you and moonwalk while carrying a surv to a hook
Lolol, yeah! I got burned once by giving someone the hatch after we had a really fun game, but due to Devotion badges I didn't get the merciless killer and only pipped once, leaving me at 4 pips. Next game the SWF vulture squad decended on me and ripped 2 pips out in the most painful way. This taught me to never show mercy until you reach Iri 1. These days I don't always make it beyond Gold ranks as killer, some month, because I just can't stomach the abuse.
-
@DrDeepwound said:
Depipping is the #1 reason killers camp and tunnel so much. Killers would play more variety if you didn't depip too.
I can confirm. Getting 4 pips and then facing an obnoxious SWF team and you knowing that you might be thrown back, again, is disheartening. So lets camp it out in order to minimize the damage. Source: I am a killer main.

This is something i put in another topic, A saying i know "The fun you have will come at the expense of another person unless your willing to make a sacrifice for them to also have fun" in games like this and any pvp games it's very true while one player is having fun the other side will not be, if the killer is having fun chances are survivors are not and if survivors are having fun chances are the killers not.
This game has a major problem of people not thinking about the other player and this goes from the players all the way up to the devs, the surveys we get are pretty much a waste they need to work out what is fun for both sides and then try to balance it around that. If 90% love being chased and thinks its funnest part of the match then look at ways how they could do that in the game, the result could be changes killers need 2 hooks to kill a survivor but they have made being more fun by adding in stuff so chases go longer.
But you do meet some really nice people on this game some that will meme around with you when your the killer and say your playing the pig people will boop the snoot soon as they see you and if they die there just happy they got to boop the snoot.
I don't know ... when I started out I tried to be a good killer and played "like I got Devour Hope equipped", ie leaving hooks, roam around, chasing others etc. I lost some games, won others and had a lot of fun. But over time I won more games then I lost, my MMR rose, and nowadays the quality of the survivors is so high that you can`t good around or do something funny without essentially throwing the game. Heck, even a single prolonged chase or a single flashlight save can foil your chances of getting anything out of that game considerably, such is the state of the meta.
And it wouldn't be half as bad, if the survivors would just win the game and move on, but they all need to rub it in as much as they can. I know that you should stand above the twerking and clicking, but it isn`t always possible. Add to this the overabundance of pallets on every map, how 50% of the player base have DH equipped at any time and your killer instinct can be broken pretty easy over the course of just a few games.
No other game that I know of punishes you that hard for playing consistently good and pummels one half of its playerbase that hard without resorting to tactics that are utterly hated and despised by the other half. And such the wheel of hate and misery turns and turns and turns.
-
So when will the event start ... something about 5h from now?
-
Wild idea: make DH a personal boon totem. As long as it stands you got DH when injured, but that totem can't be used for communal boons and the killer can snuff it .. or even shatter it. This might even shift the meta again in Hex perks favor, as right now playing hex perks is a rather futile attempt.
But back to the OP: much good ideas and win there. Even though I might not agree with everything, I think that the game would 100% be better and much more fun if they just implemented everything you said. This game needs some sweeping changes to shake up the stale meta and play styles, so take some risks and look at all the interesting ideas this community had over the years.

Wait... people seriously withhold their cakes because they don't want other people to get bonus bp? Bitterness levels overloading
Doesn't this happen every third time a killer can get a 4K? Lots of slugs on the ground, all hooks in the vicinity taken, but the last survivor struggles, until the killer drops them and everyone got to waste 4min till the bleedout timer runs out. When the game is over, I don't hide or struggle, just hook me or give me hatch, but I don't want to waste everyones time like that. You can argue "hur dur I will always fight to the last. And I have won so many clutch games by this!!!111", but my claim still stands that this is just bitterly denying the killer their 4k and trying to spoil it the last second. Especially if you just crawl into a corner and bleed out.
And the same mindset sometimes leads people down the road you see here ^^ "No cake for you, you undeserving ****"

You had no right to make me laugh like that, ffs
On the topic of new Haddonfield, I've not had enough experience with it yet but I hope i'm not alone in saying that something feels really... Off about how the map looks? I'm not sure if it's some kind of uncanny valley effect or what but it just feels wrong
Like it's really dumb I don't know where the feeling comes from, the map just doesn't feel right to me, for some reason.
Interesting.. The Uncanny Valley effect, but not for faces, but for places. New Haddonfield looks like a place people could live in, like a street that could exists somehwere, yet subtle aspects of it aren't adding up, are slightly off-kilter or out of alignment. Its like an AI imagines human housing, yet its not right there, yet.
@Regulus47 said:
Killer mains got their wish, Haddonfield is now a free win for any killer with more than one brain cell! It's s literally just a parking lot with some mediocre loops on each corner. It's a joke. At least Shelter Woods is fairly big, but new Haddonfield is like the size of dead dog. I don't see how any killer could lose on Haddonfield unless they're new. It needs more pallet spawns at the VERY LEAST, because a good 80% of the map is just a dead zone!
For a moment I thought that you were Sluzzy, but your comment was much more well thought through, so that threw me off. Still, I always despise hot takes like "autowin if you got 2 brain cells", the game isn't just that static and a lot can happen on any given map with any given killer. Well, unless you got a very competent SWF team, then you might be right that some matches can be anticipated to go in their favor.
-
Sometimes all you do all day is eating pallets and inhaling dust swirled up by DHs. Sometimes you can't take it anymore. Sometimes a killer gets close to losing hope and being devoured by The Entity. Sometimes a killer breaks and just camps the first guy to death, because they see no other venue in todays meta and state of the game.

Pretty much. I only run Franklin's if I don't have Lightborn unlocked on a specific Killer. Lightborn is Meta for me especially now that more people have discovered the "Scavenger" build. It's guaranteed to pull multiple flashlights with add-ons. Lightborn just saves me the extra headache and I love it when SWF's and Streamers start commenting about how "Lightborn takes the fun out of torturing the Killer."
For real, though. You can't make this up.
-
I don't really know. When I pick an item I don't get too attached to it and expect to lose anyways.
I can understand that it sucks to lose an item before you got to use it, but to call this toxic? No more toxic then going for a flashlight save (denying the killer all their hard work) or running Iron Will which robs the killer of an entire part of their own tool box and with zero counterplay or opportunity to "pick your hearing up again".
Or cleansing a Hex totem within a minute of the game starting without giving the killer any chance to get value out of it. Is this toxic gameplay?
You probably don't mean it that way, but this kind of thinking is very un-empathetic and comes off pretty entitled.

oh well sorry that uh you dont realize their is a build just for hag to mess with items right? its not for flashlights. if a hag runs it for flashlights then oh well, but when you do it so people have to go back to their item and use dried cicada and rusty shackles thats just a jerk move bro
I don't understand it, why is it a jerk move? Survivors know how much DH is hated, and its still the most used perk. Same with bodyblocking BT. So why is stealing some items such a "jerk move" that only tries to "destroy other peoples fun"? I honestly don't get it. Most survivors already have more items then they could ever use, because they only need to level up one survivor, because they are all just skins instead of real characers, so there is no real loss most of the time.

It really does just boil down into people refusing to think differently and adjust their playstyle and loadouts to the strengths of the killer. I don't blame them for all the reasons you mentioned, but it does frustrate me when people try to make an objective assessment of how strong they are when they refuse to make the basic effort of trying something different for once instead of running the same basic ######### they always run when it has almost 0 synergy with the power. Like yeah, maybe the most optimal playstyle isn't fun for the average player. But that doesn't mean the killer is weak, that could mean they're being played wrong.
Guaranteed this is the first killer in awhile where thinking just a little outside the box is rewarded. Sadako was the precursor to the idea of this playstyle, and it turned out to be underwhelming because of her restrictions.
Maybe Dredge being considered weak and being played less is a good thing for those who do want to play them.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2993168#Comment_2993168
3 teleport tokens every 12 seconds outside of nightfall my guy (plus some travel time). What, is every sprint burst user just going to avoid gens and walk around for 40 seconds every time? And that's assuming there isn't going to be any changes to exhaustion perks across the board, or base game changes that help out Dredge/M1 killers enough to make them stronger.
I got Dredge on day 3 or 4,because I hadn't enough shards (not sharts this time! I looked it up. Eaw), and by that time a lot of survivors hadn't adepted to his kit and I got a lot of free hits on survivors who past a locker during a chase and I nearly could see the confusion etched onto their faces.
By now survivors know to avoid locker locations when versing the Dredge but I still get the occasional surprise hit. No one plays perfect and mistakes are the salt of this game.

I once got a 3k with hatch escape and the survivor complimented my gameplay, but then noticed that I had NOED on my build and then said "ugh, but you're a NOED killer. I take it back."

That perk is a very new addition, but the pallet blind has always been a thing.
For me, pallet blinds are the only way for me to get any flashlight blinds done, as I suck at the timing and aiming.
But when I got a flashlight challenge, I now go for blast mines and flashbangs. These two actually work for me and are much more fun to pull off.

Obviously you slow the gens down as compensation.
stuff 3 genning.. I have had games go for 40 minutes + because the killer refuses to leave their little cluster they sat on from the second the game started. Nobody goes down because of boons, and the gens slowly, and painfully get completed because the killer can't stop it. Waste of everyone's time.
Or you could just be altruistic and give the killer that 1k they do desperately fight for  Seldom happens, though.

And also, they don't act at once, but often collect some similar cases and yeet them off all together, as not to tip off the hackers.

3 genning is a major part of high level gameplay, what you guys suggest would destroy any strategic hooking of people inside a 3 gen to continue to pressure the team. Sending your hooked downs across map is sometimes the worst thing you could do, forcing this on killers would destroy the game imo.
True. I didn't give it zero thought and just went with my gut feeling "oh yeah, that sounds nice".

Sit there and watch youtube until the timer runs out.
Or you know... change the hook mechanic so camping is almost impossible and make it work like pyramid cages.
I am not convinced about the first part, but the Pyramid Head cage thing could work. That wouldn't make getting hooked or caged any more engaging, though.
-
What would be the alternatives? Taking all decisions anx interactivity away and just make ot a timer? That's even more boring either way, and the occasional missed skill check during the struggle phase can be fun.
Giving no penalty for self ubhooking tries? Yeah cool, then everyone equips slippery meat and get 6 free chances without repercussions.
On the contrary, killers have no easy way out should they face a bully squad, that they either got to suck it up, eat the 5min DC penalty, deal with it, or sulk in a corner till it's over.
I still think that a catch up mechanic would be healthy for the game. Nowadays most often one side it totally dominating and snowballing on its success, but what if you got a speed buff or short aurareadings or plus genrepair and healing speed buffs if the ratio of hooks to gen progression is too unfavorable for your side?
I kniw that people don't like it, because "they get punished for being good", but right now you see so many people giving up when things go south and I can't blame either side.

*crowd rages...*
"ok ok ok, we were just joking nvm."
"We asked 100 killers what they would think about a forth hook state. Guess what were the top 3 answers?"
-
As a survivor I can't state how awesome the combo of Bound, Kindred and Open Handed is. It's just infos, but boi how much information. Even as a SWF this is superb info, as you constantly know were the action is, who is doing what EXACTLY were, and when someone is hooked you can basically see the killer on half the map, foiling all clever minds games on their behalf with basically no counterplay, as there is no indication that you got it. And when the killer disappears from range, you can always go for a safe unhook.
Another perk I love to run is Blast Mind; its devious, but just plain fun.. and the only way how inept me can get all those blind and stun challenges done. Just for your information, a blast mine counts as both, a stun and a blind. I usually pair it off with Flashbang, Red Hering and Head On for just a hilarious package.
As killer I actually never regret playing Spies from the Shadows. You often feel that you got better stuff yo equip, but spies is just awesome information with very little indication to the survivors what ticked you off. Like when I got a gut feeling that a survivor is near, but they immerse themselves, but just when I turn to leave a Crow goes off in my back and gotcha. Happens every time.
Bamboozle is another underrated perk, it's qol, but also cuts many loops short and destroys the shack. Just wonderful.
Last but not least, Franklin's! This perk is a bit vitriolic, but you destroy a lot of the more aggrevating survivor tactics adn a lot of survivors will make really bad calls and are hyper fixated to get their tooled out flashlight or toolbox back. Pro tip: tag dropped items with Hags traps for fun and profit.
-
A flying killer could be fun, though they must have a cooldown between takeoff and landing, otherwise this would be probably too strong. But I would love to see some of the maps from above.
Or one of my favorite monsters, thats pretty close related to the Aswang, the Penanggalan from Malaysia. Its another vampiric creature, but the kicker is thats the head detaches from the body ... with all the innards and organs floating in the air! So cool. This head and sack of intestines float around, hunt people and suck them dry. When they come back, full of blood, they are too swollen to wriggle back into their body just like that, so they will bath in vinegar in order to shrivel up a bit before they can get back. Thats why the vinegar scent will give them away during their day job, posing as a normal being of their society and why they sometimes try to mask this scent with heavy use of perfume.
One trick to expose them is to sneak into their house while they are hunting and turn the headless body on its back. This way they will re-attach the wrong way and expose them for the horrific being they are, the next day. Another way to get rid of them is by filling the body with broken glass and earthware, so that they cut open when re-entering.
All in all the Penanggalan is so evocative and interesting, but I guess that it would be a bit too gruesome for DBD.
