To be fair, the insane grind never drove us away. And today there are Archives and occasional BP codes to help.

Many players, such as me and you, were here way before that.

That's the reason why we're still around though, because the grind wasn't as bad back then and you could catch up pretty quickly. It's just compounding and getting worse with every DLC. The archives and BP codes don't really offset how bad the grind is for a new player. Each archive level you get, what, 400k to around 800k BP? It'll probably take several days of playing to get through, and that's barely enough BP to get from level 1 to around 30. 200k gets you to level 12, I tried this on the PTB by doing all the tutorials then levelling Jill so it would be an estimate of what a new player would get when they just start out. It's really not enough, something big needs to change with the bloodweb, be it a removal of a tier or reducing the amount of clutter. Just anything would be better than what it is.

  • Can you give the name of the artist? Reverse image search isn't coming up with anything.

  • BL is the most fun exhaustion perk imo but it's definitely not good when compared to most of the other exhaustion perks. I'd say even smash hit is better. Eg against a Nurse, the moment you see her coming towards you, you can just sprint burst in the opposite direction and stop a chase from ever happening unless she wants to waste the entire match catching up to you (which is what you sprint burst survivors should be doing but I'm glad you're wasting distance and not doing it because I'd hate playing killer if it was the norm). With Balanced you have to rely on finding something to jump off. There's a bit more thought involved but it's just objectively worse and not worth it if you wanted to go for a strong survivor build.

I'd say the only exceptions are ironworks and Haddonfield. Ever since they added that fun and interactive breakable wall on the top floor, balanced landing is REALLY good when the wall is still up.

  • The experience new players will have in this game will be no different to other major multiplayer titles if we're going off of how """toxic""" the community is. Everyone knows what t-bagging is and has been exposed to it for years. As for flashlight clicking it's no different than people spamming overwatch voicelines over and over again to annoy people. The point I'm getting at is all this so-called "toxic behaviour" is just petty, meaningless noise that you choose to either get mad about or ignore.

The one thing that'll drive away new players is the sheer amount they'll have to grind for to get even a decent build together for killer and survivor (and the amount they'll have to spend on DLC to get said perks and killers, unless they're gonna wait to get a new killer or survivor every 60 hours of game time)

  • I think it's the areas that give you the biggest movement slowdown after falling. So asylum 2nd floor, Haddonfield houses, Hawkins, The Game, high area on Sanctum of Wrath...etc.

  • Until they make another killer that breaks all the fundamental mechanics of DbD, so Nurse but better, nothing they release will ever be even considered as the "best killer". And they're probably not gonna make that mistake again, they've learned since then. Good clickbait to promote your channel though...I guess.

Fair enough. Than the training mode becomes a DLC. If I have to pay in order to use the old content, then so be it.

Well I wasn't suggesting it should be paid DLC lmao that would be ridiculous. They could list it as a free DLC.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2221470#Comment_2221470

Online games are not working like that. You can have dlc or not, you are still downloading it. Having dlc will let you play it, that’s all.

If we're talking about a bot mode, it would be a solo gamemode, the content wouldn't be used in online matches, only on your client. I don't know if Steam/Microsoft/Sony allow for things like this but this would theoretically be a way of getting around adding to the file size. Like how the Steam workshop in CSGO and GMod lets you download custom maps and play them offline.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

    Hopefully hadnofunfield is next.

What's wrong with Hawkins (minus indoor maps being unfun for a lot of killer powers)?

...precisely the reason you mentioned lmao. The current design for indoor maps is terrible for DbD's gameplay loop and eliminates what makes this game fun. You can definitely make indoor maps work, they kiiinda showed they could do it with The Game.

The center of that map on the top floor is quite open and you can actually see things and it's not claustrophobic as all hell. You can make maps indoors but just make them open with a giant ceiling so it doesn't feel so cramped and so you can actually see more than 5ft in front of you.

50 GB is so normal for modern games. I am playing Elder Scrolls Online and that game is +100 GB for example

...which is precisely why DbD doesn't need to have more bloat added to it. It's already a big enough problem, we don't need more games exacerbating it.

  • @GeneralV said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2221456#Comment_2221456

I don't mind. My computer has enough memory for that. Besides, it is quite possible that many assets are still there.

You don't mind, but do other people? Not everyone has the storage to spare on things that, to a lot of people, would be wasted space on their PC. The one way they could get around it would be to list it as some kind of DLC on the store page.

  • @GeneralV said:

Yes, I would love to see it, but only if they allowed us to customise the living ######### out of it. I am talking about playing with old powers, on old maps, with old perks, and the list goes on.

Since we will be playing with bots anyway, there is no reason not to give us freedom.

Not a chance. That would mean adding back all the old files for the old content and bloat the filesize. The game's big enough, it's like 50GB at this point.

  • I prefer playing on Haddonfield more so I'd go for that. It's also easier to camp on Haddonfield, you can guarantee at least someone dies if you get a basement hook, nearly impossible to save in the basement (goes without saying for any map I guess but the basement isn't hard to get to on Haddonfield.)

theres literally only two opinions possible about spirit. I do think she’s busted. Some people don’t. I’m actually playing the game and I can form my own opinion. Try again.

Ah right, so they're a mob mentality because they and the streamer they watch went for option 1 and you went for option 2. Maybe you'll soon realise that people like to watch streamers whose opinions they agree with. Sharing the same opinion isn't mob mentality.

  • You only had a short time to redeem it. I managed to get the 2nd one, the 1st one doesn't work for me now.

  • Oh just wait for the occasions when it overcorrects your stalk and pops Tier 3 when you didn't want to. Welcome to Myers, it's been like this since dedicated servers rolled out.

  • @legacycolt said:

Because people aren’t forming their own opinions thanks to streamers. If Tru3 says spirit is not op, everyone in the stream agrees.. like what the hell?

We all know spirit needs to be nerfed.

...You're literally doing the same thing that Tru3's chat is doing lmao

  • @NightmareKiller said:

I wish but then the forum would be full of "nerf new killer pls!". We already have them crying about Spirit and ocassionally about Nurse and Blight.

Oh no, less than .5% of the community would start complaining about a killer and how OP they are, we can't have that :(! Then BHVR will be forced to nerf them because this is definitely how balance changes in video games are made.

I remember McCote saying "It's fun stabbing people." That was back when he was originally released, though, when he could stab stab stab and whiffing didn't penalize him. I didn't find this vanilla stabbing nonsense much fun then, but now that whiffing kicks him out of his power, he's definitely not fun.

It's the reason that Legion players give as to why they like the killer though: they enjoy switching their brain off and stabbing people without needing to think about it. I don't see it, but they're probably fun for people who like that kind of gameplay.

  • Jeff, Ace and Steve probably. All of them have perks that, imo, are quite terrible. The only useable perk out of these 3 is aftercare which can be ok, but bond or kindred are far better survivor aura perks imo.

  • I just hope they didn't go with the damn police station as the map. I'm begging you BHVR, please please PLEASE no more indoor maps.

  • My favourite part of the game is the interaction between killer and survivor because it's the only part of the game where your skill actually matters, and the only part of the game that you can constantly learn and improve at. The rare occasions that you get a survivor that's confident in a chase there's always something to pick up on, and then it's up to you if you can pick apart their habits before they do the same to yours. And you have to switch your gameplay up when you're against someone that uses their brain.

So yeah I like chases. Obviously you can't be chasing someone for 60 seconds for each hit or anything, and I will break chase if it's the smart thing to do, but I'd prefer to chase that survivor than regress and control gens, traverse the map, find hiding survivors etc. because that stuff is boring and takes no skill and I'd much rather be in a chase where mine and the survivors skill matters.

In my defense I'm still a relatively new player and don't have many perks unlocked yet. Which brings me to my point where I am no where near the same skill level as any of these people so I'm not even able to counter most survivor plays. I literally just try to make do with what I have with what I got. In all of my games. It's just not really fair that I get paired up with sweaty rank 1 players who have everything and that I barely have anything unlocked to be able to even try to counter them.

Ah I didn't know you were new, my apologies. But yeah you shouldn't be playing against survivors in rank 1 when you're a lower rank than 4 or so but that's just how the matchmaking is now. Everyone says rank doesn't matter but it does in some ways, rank 1 means you spend a lot of time on the game, and therefore have more stuff unlocked because this game's grind is abysmal. And perks are far more essential as killer than survivor because you need perks that can effectively help deal with 4 people at once.

It's still scary that she's a genuine legacy player that played DBD since 2016.

Why is it scary that someone's played a video game since release? Especially a game like DbD, where the skill ceiling is relatively low and has a pretty bad RNG factor woven into almost every aspect of it. I've never understood that, it's so strange basing whether or not you'll play against someone on their hours, it seems to be the most common in DbD where people find any excuse to avoid players.

But why does it have to be the norm? Why cant we talk about actual problems instead of useless arguing?

I want people to discuss bugs, optimization, actual problems instead of the 5th "Camping/DS bad me angy" thread of the day.

What is there to discuss about bugs and optimization that hasn't been said? If it's a new bug it's like "oh, neat" and that's it. Nothing else to really talk about other than to all pray it gets fixed in about 6 months' time.

As for optimization...you know how many threads have been made about it in the last 3 years and the response to optimization has been questionable at best? No amount of discussion or feedback is helping. It's either not a priority or it's so impossibly difficult to improve that they're still not close to finding a solution

So hag isn't a problem to you, when that part of his power is basically what hag does?

Just because I hate one killer doesn't mean I don't hate another killer with the same issues? No idea where you got that from. I can't tell you how many times I've complained about Hag on here lmao I just hate The Twins more.

  • You know how you hold the chainsaw behind a survivor as Billy/Bubba and down them easily if you're right next to them and it makes it basically impossible to dodge it? Apply that same logic to Huntress with iri head. She can do it a bit further away too, because her hatchets travel at 1000%, not 230% like Billy's saw. With Billy, there's a pretty long wind-up and you have to be mindful of pallets and windows if you wanna backrev a survivor. As Huntress your windup is a lot faster and pallets and windows are hardly a concern for her.

You do realize that you can just hide Victor behind obstacles nearby, right?

And to add on to that, it is literally impossible to determine when and how far you need to be to crouch in order to not trigger killer instinct. Unless you were crouching across the entire map, you WILL trigger killer instinct. Doesn't matter if you heard his screams then quickly ducked, that's in range to trigger KI.

And one heartbeat is more than enough for a Twins player to tap Ctrl on reaction and find you with a killer they switched to within half a second from across the map and to weed you out with 150% move speed and good luck dodging him when he moves that fast with a hitbox the size of a planet.

God I despise this joke of a killer.

  • Addon-less is better than iri head now. All they had to do was give it a range requirement but that was apparently too hard and they took the easy route again. With 1 hatchet her snowballing is not nearly as good, which is the one main strength she has over Deathslinger.

And because there's still no range requirement you can just walk up to people and backrev them for a cheap down, so the lack of interaction there wasn't fixed with this change either, the main issue everyone had with it because it was way too easy to walk up to people and hit them from around 5m away because you couldn't dodge it. Now you can only do that once and then you have to waddle over to a locker to reload every time. Fun.

  • Would be fun if it became an exhaustion perk or something. Something like:

"Dropping a pallet will start a 3 second timer, once the timer is up, you can press the active ability button to reset that pallet immediately when near it. You become exhausted."

This is what I'd want it to become.

Do you not feel that would take out any sort of grind? I do feel a bit of grind is needed as it keeps you aiming towards something and therefore playing.. plus I'd low key be sad of all the bps iv spent getting all tiers on everyone todate lol

The actual game should be what keeps people coming back, not the crap you have to grind out to enjoy it. But unfortunately BHVR don't really seem to care about that, they think the grind is necessary for people to keep playing. And if they're right, well...what does that say about the game?

  • I honestly prefer going against rusty shackles than no rusty shackles. At least my camera doesn't get yanked around everytime I trigger a trap because taking away the player's control of the camera just so you can have the funny and epic jumpscare gamer moment is great game design like I've said before.

Chances are you're gonna get hit anyway, and you can almost never see the traps, so the add-on doesn't really do anything except feel like it's BS, even though it's the same level of BS Hag already has.

I mean this was one of my matches this weekend. I get these a lot, even when in green ranks. This particular team was a 4 man SWF death squad. They spent the entire match just circling me, taking turns with flashlights, with one guy off to the side healing them as they swapped in an out of crowding around me. This match was just a nightmare and not fun in any way at all and was just a literal waste of my time. And actually funny thing is I was lvl 9 at the start of this match too, so I have no idea how the hell I even pipped when only I got 1 kill at the end, as a pity kill.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/7TYVBYI5H6QD/image.png

Surveillance with no ruin, no slowdown so surveillance is basically useless, Franklin's against the worst survivor item in the game, Make Your choice on a killer with no mobility or good chase power... I can already see several reasons why you lost. And what kind of death squad brings autodidact+empathy, and self-care with botany knowledge lmao.

Imo Pig works better with either tracking or chase perks, I can't ever play her without enduring at least. And discordance is probably better if you want a gen-related perk and it works well with combat straps and the other ambush add-ons. Pop is probably a good idea too if you want slowdown, I don't personally like slowdown on her, the traps do enough if you can reliably down survivors without a threatening chase power at the start of the match.

That is what I just said in my post x)

But yeah, I want a way to do it in-game... It can't be that hard to implement? Can it...?

It wouldn't be hard at all. One setting in the display options menu that switches the value of one line in the ini file. That's it. Unfortunately, small changes like this aren't something BHVR care about atm, and it's not something that brings in new players and money. Resident Evil brings in players, not FPS settings.

  • That game is not well-known or well received enough for BHVR to base their licensed chapter around, would be a really bad decision on their end. Wouldn't bring nearly as much buzz as Wesker/Nemesis/Lady D etc would

  • Gonna guess it means "look who's sitting there hiding in the grass all scared" or something along those lines. Basically, he's calling out Blendettes.

  • Broken, wouldn't be a good change.

Were you around for old Legion with old deep wounds? Or at least, do you know that you can moonwalk to not initiate a chase? ...yeah. Having chases as the condition to be met for perks and abilities is a really bad idea because of what this game defines as a chase.

Edit: just realised it was for undetectable only, I didn't realise what you meant with insidious. I think trail of torment could still be a problem though with the whole moonwalking thing, because it can stay up for a long time if they don't touch the gen

But what is that level? And wouldn't an FOV slider be problematic because of things like flashlights?

Everyone's idea is the max FOV the slider goes would be 15 degrees, which is what shadowborn currently is. Muscle memory wouldn't be affected if you set the slider to max. And I don't see how it would be a problem for flashlights, if you ran shadowborn anyway you were aware of the increased flashlight angle and it's the risk you took.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2207935#Comment_2207935

Part of the problem for me is that I found him good before. Balanced and equitable. The people who say that he isn't good seem to base it on his looping and nothing else (I'm not saying you, just what I generally see). But when you think about it, we're talking about a killer who is not only invisible, but MUCH faster while invisible, who now is even harder to see, but can now also turn visible at a moment's notice with no tell or indication of any kind (unless you get lucky to get a Wraith that comes at you head on thus allowing you to see his blur) AND quickly hit you before you can react.

And I just haven't ever understood the arguments for counterplay. "Be by a window". What, the whole game? "Predrop all the pallets". A Wraith isn't going to see you doing that or simply find an alternate path around them? "Run this perk and that perk". Specifically build a character to counter just ONE killer?

I understand, I'm not nearly as practiced in this game as most of you. I readily admit that. I readily admit that a lot of this is me not having enough practice. But I mean, a superfast invivisble killer that has a very obvious tell (which also slows him down long enough to have a chance to get away) is one thing. There's balance there. That's why everyone hates the Spirit right? Her tells are too difficult, the game is just guesswork. That's what everyone says. Well, I mean, when you're facing an invisible, superfast, silent killer who can come up and nail you out of nowhere for a free hit (and I automatically dismiss any argument that says "he's a stealth killer, he's supposed to get free hits"), that's a whole different, much more frustrating game altogether. I'm legit sorry for anyone who thought that he was crap before, I never did. But it seems as if the people who do are now being defensive that he's no longer crap, without allowing for the possibility that maybe his combined powers are now a little TOO much.

    That's all I'm saying.

I sort of agree with some of your points, it can be a bit much, especially now that you can run all-seeing, silent bell AND be 150% speed with a fast lunge. It's a little ridiculous but I personally don't mind. I play a lot of Wraith so I'm not really bothered by it. I could see how it feels a little BS to play against but I think basically every killer has something like that. Even Demo got a really nasty add-on/perk combo this patch. After his lunge speed bug got fixed after the speed buff it kinda took away the one weakness he had aside from being in a good area of the map, something which is entirely reliant on map RNG and we all know how terrible it can be.

  • @miketheratguy said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2207666#Comment_2207666

All I know is that until a few weeks ago he always used the bell and I never felt like I had to just hand him a free hit for every uncloack. After the last patch (or perhaps the one before, I can't keep track of some of the adjustments they've made) it's been like that almost every time: No bell, unavoidable hits. Granted, you are correct that the matchmaking has only made it worse.

Tbh if you're getting windstorm lunged like that, chances are you were gonna get hit anyway, the lunge just sped up the process by a few seconds. The only time the lunge is useful in a chase is around a short loop, you should be able to make it to a pallet or a good window before he gets a chance to lunge. But you play against Wraith the same way you've been playing against him for the last 2 years, only now he has another add-on slot which was enough to make people realise he's actually good so he's a popular killer now.

  • DbD is weird, it's literally the only game I own that is this slow at installing updates. No matter how good your CPU or SSD is it'll take so much longer than every other game. Not even other Unreal Engine games that use the same process take this long (at least it's not like Street Fighter V, where it'll download over half the game again because they just make you redownload the altered pak files every time it gets an update lmao)

    Putting words in my mouth

Just what I expected from these forums

So what the hell were you getting at then? Because you literally said you hate when people call a killer boring because it's a subjective statement.

  • All corrupt does is stop survivors sitting on a gen the moment they spawn into the match. That's all it does. It doesn't even slow down gens because the survivors will spend 20 seconds walking to the uncorrupted gens, which will be in the center of the map, and do those first instead. Now all the gens that were corrupted are now uncorrupted, you only have 3 perks for the rest of the match and you're stuck patrolling the hardest gens to defend - the gens on the outside of the map meaning a lot of time spent travelling to each one.

It's not a good perk, I love seeing killers run corrupt as survivor because it tells me the killer has a good early game (which you're not threatened at all as a survivor at this stage) but a terrible late game (3 perks, and lots of time wasted going to the last gens and the time when gen defence actually matters).

The only times it's good is when you're a setup killer like Trapper, Hag or Demo and you get a long map which corrupts all the gens on one side of the map (which rarely happens).

see, this is a troll post i will bite at, but barely........ as you can EASILY come up with these answers on your own

only doing infinite loops. soul guard. flashlights, body blocking. DS, dead hard... When all four survivors utilize every single resource at their disposal. The killer will NEVER get one hook even with tunneling

You're either a troll or have skin as thin as a sheet. It sounds like you can't handle multiplayer games, because this "bullying" happens in all of them, and DbD is not even close to the worst example.

  • "survivor bad" post number....I've lost count at this point.

  • ? Since when? Billy, Bubba, Freddy, Nurse, Oni can all make great use of tinkerer

  • I just want his old sounds back man. I'm sick of how grating and screechy the chainsaw is right now, and the dumb roar. It's objectively worse, I don't know a single person who actually still plays Billy (so like, the 6 of us who are left) and likes those new sounds and his chase music, they're so annoying and drown out all the survivor noises. Blight has a similar problem with his chase music being obnoxiously loud.

  • You should definitely think about taking a break. This game can get really miserable to play and it can really burn you out if you're a solo player, whether it's solo Q survivor or killer. The rift has compounded on that burnout too, because now you feel like you HAVE to play or else you miss out on exclusive content until it gets released in the store 2 years down the line.

1 … 3 4 5 6 7 … 63
