  • Going against the grain of the initial OP, I have to say that this change feels really nice for me personally when playing survivor. I feel like I can actually drop pallets now with some expectation of safety as long as I play it right. There have been quite a few pallet drops and stuns I’ve got that I’m almost certain would have unfairly injured me before.

I haven’t noticed a ton of difference as killer because I never really got pallet hits in the first place, lol. Having a ping of 30 finally feels like it’s no longer an active hindrance when playing this game.

  • Totally disagree about Claudette. She looks more vibrant without losing the personality of the old Claudette. Old Claud looked absolutely terrible to the point of looking like a creepy waxwork or mannequin. New Claud is cute.

Reworked Meg on the other hand looks like an angry bird and I’m annoyed that I ever P3d her, I don’t think I can stand to play her anymore.

I'm addressing the issue of broken grabs. The killers hand can be on a survivors shoulder lifting them up and they can just be like nope im going cancel ur legit grab, this also requires verry Minamal reaction time. Tbh if ur making an unsafe rescue you should be grabed there's many perks that can help unhook faster and teammates can take protection hits. So my issue is I see alot of survivors basicly exploit this. Half the time is 1 survivor "exploiting" the pickup animation well the other saves right after then buddy on the hook uses BT and u are effectively in the same place with 3 healthy and 1 ingured after the entire fiasco.

The devs just pushed live a change to address bugged grabs so this is unnecessary. You’ll now injure them if your grab is cancelled.

  • I played against a squad like this once and while it was a bit frustrating, it was also pretty fun. (It’s also pretty rare because most survivors can’t do locker flashlight saves.) I got to practice locker timing, flashlight timing (from the killer side anyway), and I killed all 4 of them at 5 gens. One of them was borderline rude in end game chat but the others said gg and left so they weren’t unpleasant.

You have to see matches like this as an opportunity to learn some tricks, it isn’t a normal match so don’t try to play it like one. Bait the flashlight save by pretending to pick up. Slug as many as you can. Their flashlights run out after a while as well so try to pay attention to who’s out of battery and who they’re relying on to get the save.

  • I don’t see what problem this is intended to address. If you know they’re faking, you just have to call their bluff and wait for them to commit. The survivor on the hook is on a timer, they have to commit at some point.

  • I haven’t had this happen to me, but I don’t think I’d go afk or disconnect because it seems kind of unfair to my teammates. I’d just play really dumb and/or sacrifice myself to the killer at an appropriate time.

Does the bug affect your walking speed? Could always walk everywhere.

  • There are quite a few I don’t face often to be honest. Trapper, Billy, Myers, Hag, Doctor, Pig, Spirit, Plague, Ghostface, Pyramid Head.

I face tons of Wraith, Nurse, Huntress, Deathslinger and Nemesis. Everyone else I see moderately often (Bubba, Freddy, Clown, Legion, Demo, Oni, Blight, Twins, Trickster.)

I know this is just putting a bandaid on a problem.

But run Open Handed + Kindred. On smaller maps it feels especially broken against the Killer and it helps make Solo Queue much MUCH more bareable.

That way you'll know what to prioritize and who to focus on helping. Open-Handed is purely for the Killer aura reading which can be really far away from the Killer from the hook.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/5CG688YYHT7Q/381210-20210728013322-1.png

(Seriously, I've been staring at her as she chased around the Meg and she never went outside the aura reading range)

Kindred is an amazing perk and I would recommend all solo players run it.

However, it’s just a perk and won’t play the game for people. It still requires your teammates to have brains, or the desire to play with some level of altruism.

  • I don’t think he needs significant buffs, he’s pretty good as he is in most respects IMO. Maybe a small reduction in his power cooldown, 30 seconds is a bit too long.

Though I will say that I don’t think exposing and downing a survivor knocking you out of your power is you being “punished”. You successfully used your power to get a fast instadown so it goes on cooldown. I don’t really see how that’s a punishment.

Also, getting a grab will still knock you out of your power and put it on cooldown since the survivor on your shoulder will reveal you.

Most generic tiles become safe, and while good survivors can loop most anyway being able to see killers over the loop removes all mind-games and moon-walking the killer can do. It essentially removes all skill a survivor needs and just makes it boil down to running in a circle till the killer makes you throw a pallet.

It also increases the strength of some already strong loops for really great survivors so they always get maximum value/time wasted out of a loop.

You can see the killer over generic loops already. Not L/T walls and not jungle gyms but I don’t think stretched will let you see over those, correct me if I’m wrong. But for the generic pallet tiles like the hay bales on Coldwind, you don’t need stretched res. You just angle your camera down slightly and see the killer’s head and therefore which direction they’re looking and moving.

It's funny how it's perfectly acceptable to be stunned from several metres away.

There's no reward, nothing to make the game easier. We're not talking 200 ping here, we're talking 50-60. We're talking the kind of hits that would look perfectly legitimate on both sides if it was a livestreamed tournament that suddenly can't land because the server registered the stun before the hit by a microsecond.

I don’t think being stunned from a mile away is good either, and I hope the devs are able to implement a fix for that as well.

And it sucks for everyone else who doesn't live next to the servers who have been getting stunned from metres away from pallets for years and who now don't have the upside of occasionally actually hitting survivors who were late to drop pallets.

It does suck. But if that’s the case you should be lobbying the devs for more/better servers, not lamenting the fact that killers are no longer rewarded with hits for having high ping when they play around pallets.

Ah okay, good to know it isn’t every time. It definitely ate my item in my case though, I had one rainbow map and after a match where the killer disconnected I’d lost it so I’m 100% certain I didn’t miscount.

  • It’s pathetically easy to reach red ranks as killer so it wouldn’t be surprising.

Yup, same here. I commit to pretending I’ve gone afk and they usually get bored and move away far enough that I can then run away.

The fact that this happens often enough to know this works is depressing, but the devs have never seemed that interested in removing the ability to grief other players from the game, to be honest.

There is a 3 second cooldown after attack you will eventually die

And while the killer does that the other survivor can do gens or is dying

Scummy as hell but not holding the game hostage. People need to learn what that means.

It takes 4 minutes to bleed out if the killer downs you and leaves you. Imagine how much longer it will take if the killer only has to go through a 3 second cooldown after downing you, then picks you up and drops you over and over. It would take forever. You’d be “bleeding out” for less than 10 seconds every time, that’s more than 20 minutes and that’s only if that’s all they do.

Taking the game hostage doesn’t mean only a scenario where it literally will never end. It also includes scenarios where someone drags things out for an unreasonable amount of time on purpose.

I've always found the "race to the bottom" mentality that a large portion of the community has to be a bit odd. It's a ranked pvp game. A terribly balanced one if we're being honest, but it's a pvp game at it's core. I've never played another pvp game where players constantly shame others for winning or trying to play the game optimally/mechanically well. There's a cultural thing especially on NA servers where you should play to the level of your competition. If they're terrible, you're supposed to play equally as terrible and not punish any mistakes.

This happens in tons of PvP games. I first heard the phrase “sweaty tryhard” as a gaming insult like 10 years ago, it’s been around forever and is still a commonly used term. DBD isn’t an outlier in this respect, it’s extremely typical in fact, all PvP games have people who complain about certain characters/guns/items/strats because they’re sweaty or OP or boring or cheesy or whatever.

In fact it’s not just limited to gaming, you can see people who watch certain sports using the same complaints about fighting styles or ways of playing. Google “Floyd Mayweather boring style” for an obvious example.

Complaints about people tryharding will never stop, ever. So it’s pointless to even worry about it. If you want to play in a competitive way, you just have to get used to it.

  • @Crowman said:

Without any actual video evidence, it's hard to say that you were in fact facing cheaters.

I haven't really played that much recently due to other games taking my attention, but I've maybe faced like 3 cheaters over a total of 2.5K hours. Now it could a regional thing, because you'll be matched with people within your region. But cheating has never been a huge problem in my experience.

It doesn’t seem like a huge problem until it ruins the game.

I had a couple of cheaters who kept instantly healing me from the ground, then in post-game chat accused me of being the cheater and encouraged the others in the lobby to report me. I don’t know if anyone actually did, and I submitted video evidence to prove that it was them and not me, but the next person might be unlucky and catch a ban by mistake.

I also experienced a killer who had infinite Remember Me tokens so the gates literally would not open. And he wouldn’t hook anyone, he’d down someone, pick them up and then just teleport around the map for long periods of time while they were unable to wiggle. I’ve also had survivors that escape through the un-spawned hatch and crash the game, leaving everyone else frozen and unable to do anything. Both scenarios are the definition of holding the game hostage and force you to take a dc ban.

  • Not sure why people make out like it takes forever to get enough stalk for perma tier 3, it really doesn’t take that long if you pair it with the right add on unless you get really unlucky. Plus you can just run a build like Corrupt/Ruin/Undying/Tinkerer and slow down the start of the match pretty significantly, then push survivors off the middle gens and get easy stalk and regression. You’ll easily hit tier 3 before they can do more than one or two gens.

With that build, it’s only really a weak add on if the survivors spawn split up on a large map and get your totems really fast. Which is unlikely. Even then, Corrupt can salvage things.

  • I’ve also experienced the same bug in the same spot.

  • Still bugged.

i believe the twins are very enjoyable, in fact they are my favorite killers to face. of course this can sound asinine to a community that likes to make an echo chamber, but it's really not that bad if you know them

Firstly, my comment was clearly exaggerated and not entirely serious. Secondly, why do you assume I don’t know the Twins? I’ve played both as and against them many times, that’s how I formed my opinion. Funny that you accuse me of being part of an echo chamber based on absolutely nothing, if I didn’t know any better I’d assume your own echo chamber has conditioned you to assume certain things about people who have opinions you don’t agree with.

  • I’ve never heard of a single person being banned for this so I doubt it. How do you prove it was a VPN?

I doubt the devs will 100% confirm it either way though. They probably don’t want to make people confident about doing something that technically is against the rules, just hard to prove.

They should. I don’t think anyone has an issue with people modding harmless stuff like perk icons, but since some people are determined to ruin things for everyone, they should just nip it in the bud.

  • @CornHub said:

I got into a match & brought my rainbow map with the 2 stamp add-ons. The killer finds me, hits me with Franklin's then immediately DCs. I lose my item & there's absolutely nothing I can do about it, why is that even a mechanic?

Countering it would require you to know that they plan on doing it, which you can’t possibly do. So there is no counter.

  • I completely disagree about the Twins, I think they’re the worst designed killer in the history of DBD. They were extremely exploitable when they launched - survivors could take Victor hostage for the whole game, Victor couldn’t do anything about lockers, Victor could camp hooks extremely easily, Charlotte could block basement stairs… you get the idea, and the fact that none of this was anticipated before their launch is pretty amazing and sad honestly.

But they’re not much better now even after those issues were resolved, frankly. Now you have a 150% movement speed stealth killer with a fast charged ranged attack that can hit over pallets and windows, but can’t hook you. How does that sound like a good time for anyone? Victor has a long cooldown after a hit, which feels bad for the killer, but basically no downtime once he’s destroyed, so kicking him is almost pointless. Switching between C and V feels slow and terrible for the killer. For the survivor, you literally can’t lose him when you’re injured and you basically can’t loop him, so you just have to hope he misses his pounce but doesn’t fly too far away from you, so you can kick him. But then he just respawns in a couple of seconds and chases you down again.

It’s like old Legion levels of bad design. The concept sounded so cool to me at first and I think their visual design is super creepy and great, but the power design is hot garbage.

  • Plague. I really love her design and lore - statuesque priestess killer that smacks survivors with her incense burner just appeals to me. I also feel like she’s pretty strong. But I am SO bad with her it’s not even funny. I don’t think I’ve ever got more than like 2 kills when playing her, lmao, and I can get consistent 4ks with weaker killers like Trapper or Pig.

  • Most Wraiths are extremely predictable and therefore easy to read and outplay. You have to understand how he’ll play each kind of tile, and call his bluff.

For example, a long-ish loop with a pallet in the middle: they’ll either stand at the pallet and uncloak, or stand on the opposite side of the pallet, uncloak, then fake going one way but go the other so you drop the pallet and they can get a lunge hit on you on the side you dropped it from.

In the first case, pretend to stay at the loop. Wait for them to commit to the uncloak and then run away to another loop before they finish. The lunge won’t be long enough to reach you, if they chase you out of cloak they’re slow, and if they decide to cancel the uncloak and follow you in cloak they’re slowed down by the animation, and you get a big enough head start to reach another loop usually.

In the second case (they stand at the end of the loop and wait for you to drop the pallet), just expect them to fake going one direction and loop them around. Basically every Wraith will just fake lunging one way and double back. It’s just like Pig’s dash in this sense, only faster. If they do this too often you can easily avoid it and make them waste a lot of time trying.

Basically don’t be a survivor that runs to a pallet and drops it in a predictable fashion. They’ll expect you to do it and lunge to the side you dropped from. (Sometimes running to a pallet and then running back and dropping it from the other side can catch them off guard and get you a stun.) You have to keep your camera on him and always look out for the double backs and fakes. It also helps a lot if you know the limitations of Wraith’s lunge and how they tend to play tiles, so playing killer yourself helps a lot.

Also, Wraith gets a way longer stun if you hit him with a pallet while he’s in cloak, so most cloaked Wraiths will really respect pallets which you can use to your advantage. However, if he’s trying to bodyblock a pallet in cloak and you can drop it on him, do it and he’ll be stunned for quite a while which gives you time to make distance.

Personally I wouldn’t recommend just pre-dropping every pallet, you want to conserve some resources and play in a less predictable way. If you just run to pallet and drop, run to pallet and drop, you become very easy to predict and he’ll just go around and hit you after you drop. In which case you wasted the pallet for no reason.

Sorry, this comment is really long and rambling. I understand that Wraith can feel very frustrating to play against, especially if you’re a less experienced survivor. But he’s still an M1 killer at base so he’s definitely not unbeatable. Try to use every match against a Wraith to learn how to play against him and you’ll be looping, stunning and teabagging Wraiths at the exit gates in no time. :)

  • Sorry but the Twins were just designed to suck any possible survivor fun out of a match. Every aspect of their design was carefully selected to make them as torturous and anti-fun as humanly possible. It’s not you, there’s just no way to play this killer in a way that’s enjoyable for anyone else.

  • Every match against this killer is miserable anyway. It’s almost like the game is telling you it’s pointless to try.

Camping only works if survivors rush the hook or stop doing gens. It was never a sure win tactic. If that were true then virtually every killer would play that way.

It isn’t a sure win but it will win games more often than not because survivors are incentivised to be altruistic.

More killers don’t do it cause it’s dull, not because it doesn’t work IMO. Fun part of killer is mostly hunting survivors down and using your power. Camping from the start gets boring fast unless you have the personality type to enjoy annoying people.

  • I really hate Leatherface + Bamboozle. I get why people run it, it’s obviously a strong combo. But I’m disappointed every time because Bubba window mind games are super tense and fun, so Bamboozle just reduces all chases with him to throwing pallets and hoping you get good loop chaining RNG. If not, gg ez.

I’m also not a fan of Make Your Choice on Doctor. Again, it’s a synergistic pairing so I get it. Doesn’t mean I have to like it. :D

  • She must be a tricky killer to deal with since nerfs in the wrong direction will make her terrible, but I just wish they’d nerf her add ons already. A killer that strong doesn’t need strong add ons that buff her power further. Even her browns are all pretty good. They could significantly nerf or rework several of her add ons and she’d still be incredibly strong so I really don’t get it.

  • I don’t agree with #3 at all. If every survivor avoids gens and runs around the map looking for totems, the game is at a complete standstill. It’s a terrible feeling when one survivor is being chased and buys enough time for people to do gens, only to be hooked and see their entire team running around like headless chickens looking for a totem.

Just check the totem spots near where you spawn and cleanse the ones you find. If it’s not Ruin, hop on a gen. When you move around the map, check the other spots. If all survivors do this you’ll probably get two gens done and find the totem before long anyway.

"Why does killer use strong perks, why can't they use weaker perks so I have easier wins?"

Sounds like two good combos for Rookie Spirit! I might definitely use the first option in the future (Rookie Spirit + Better Together).

Question though: if the gen has Ruin and you block it with Repressed Alliance... Does it still regress regardless? I've never used Repressed against Ruin because I've always thought it'd be moot since Ruin regress when not actively worked on. 🤔

Blocked gens don’t regress at all. So as an example, if a killer kicks a gen and then picks up a survivor to proc Thrilling Tremors, the gen will stay at the progress it was at, it won’t lose progression.

  • I don’t have any good build ideas, but off the top of my head there are a couple of perks you could pair it with:

Rookie Spirit and Better Together - see a regressing gen, jump on it and draw other survivors to it. Good for end game or 3 gen busting.

Rookie Spirit and Repressed Alliance - if the killer has Ruin/Pop you can protect a regressing gen that has a lot of progress.

  • I completely disagree and think that would be way too much, on both sides. Both Ruin and BT are strong enough perks that they can potentially turn the tide of a match, and if you want that effect you should have to give up a perk slot, in my opinion.

  • @MadLordJack said:

If you mean "can you go for 12 hooks and potentially win/get an average of 10 hooks", not even remotely. If you mean "don't hardcore camp, tunnel and mass-slug right from the start," then yes. In fact, those are usually very bad plays that require specific circumstances to actually work in. Seriously, they don't help.

As for survivor... We're apparently all squeaky clean and can do no wrong. I never get called out for predropping pallets, holding W, using strong perks, etc. I get that killers can shut down any real gameplay, but come on - so long as I don't BM, I can be as much of a ######### as I want. That doesn't seem fair, especially given how much I use Lucky Break, Iron Will, OoO, strong medkits, DS, BT, the new Flashbang perk, Head On, etc.

Don't use flashlights much. Maybe that's why I'm so cute and forgivable?

Sounds nice. I don’t use flashlights and I’ve had killers ######### at me for running lots of things, Dead Hard, BT, Balanced, Spine Chill, Head On, new DS, medkits, maps, a Dead Dawg offering, and tons of other stuff. Plus the ever-present “omg sweaty swf” even when I’m running multiple aura perks and have an open friends list.

I once had a Spirit tell me to kill myself for running DH when I didn’t even use it a single time in the match. Lol.

  • I think it’s mostly balanced. The thing that stands out the most for me is the map, I think it’s awful from a balance perspective (though beautifully done).

Also not a huge fan of Nemesis’ power design, another ranged killer that hits you if you drop the pallet and hits you if you don’t. Eh. I don’t think he’s particularly strong or weak, just uninspired and dull to play.

  • I mean, there is a pretty huge gulf between playing in an extremely forgiving way with no slowdown at all, and running tons of slowdown and slugging everyone to death. You could go for, like, a bit of slowdown and some mild slugging here and there, or just adjust your playstyle to how the match goes. It doesn’t have to be all or nothing.

  • @Orion said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2366561#Comment_2366561

Like I said, have their cake and eat it too. They don't want to be chased, they want to be chased when it suits them, and for the killer to leave them alone when it doesn't. The killer as an opposing player with their own agency, goals, and strategies, this game being PvP, none of that matters. Things can only happen to them if and when they say so, and only if they end in a way that is advantageous to them. Everything else be damned.

Well, yeah, different context can make enjoyable things less enjoyable. I find getting a massage from a trained professional fun, less so if it’s a stranger on the bus. Getting chased is fun when the experience is engaging and feels “fair”, that’s why survivors enjoy not being chased immediately off the hook and why killers enjoy not chasing through a mass of ultra safe pallets and windows. This doesn’t make someone a hypocrite, it’s extremely normal and logical to feel that way.

  • I don’t think many people have an issue with killers running a slowdown perk or two, especially weaker killers. Most people understand that if you run no slowdowns at all the gens can go quickly, and most people want a game longer than 3 minutes. If you’re playing Trapper, there are very few people that will fault you for running Corrupt and/or Pop, for example.

But seeing stuff like a Nurse or a Spirit with Ruin/Pop/Tinkerer/Thana is just sad. That’s where the problem lies with slowdowns, they can all be stacked and it gets to the point of absurdity. So the survivors spend two minutes at the start of the match cleansing bones, and then it doesn’t matter anyway because now several pallets are gone meaning chases are quicker, and the killer just falls back on chaining hooks and Tinkerer/Pop.

How do you counter that on a high tier killer like Spirit? By being a 4 man comp team I guess, otherwise ggez.

  • Why would you bake a “dodge a hit” condition into two perk reworks in a game where most of the player base constantly complains about hits feeling unfair? Lol.

  • What do you mean, explain it? I mentioned it in my comment. It got nerfed so you only have one hatchet when you use it, meaning that if you miss your hatchet you are forced to either reload or become an M1 killer at 110% speed, and if you hit you only hit one person and then have to reload or use M1. The power of having a ranged instadown is balanced by its limitations.

Plague with instadown Corrupt would be a 115% speed killer with 60 seconds of a ranged, infinite ammo, multi-hit instadown power. You really don’t think that would be a bit busted?

  • @Lord_Tony said:

We have so many killers with instant downs now oni, leatherface, billy, ghostface, myers, etc

So why doesn't plague get instant downs with her power?

Survivors hold her power hostage and if they don't heal then they are in the broken state for easy hits but if they do heal now t hey're fully healed and you have a situational power that can only damage them but not put them in broken state and you have to hit them twice now.

for a power this situational and is 100% within the survivor's control it should be buffed a bit

Plague doesn’t get instant downs with her power because it’s a ranged power and therefore can hit survivors from a distance, over pallets and through windows. It can also hit multiple survivors in one stream. You can’t do all of that with the other instadown powers, the closest thing was Iri Head Huntress and the devs nerfed that for good reason.

I’m not necessarily opposed to Corrupt being buffed but this would be absurdly powerful.

  • Gonna have to disagree on this one, sadly. It looks really nice and the sound design and overall atmosphere is great, but it’s not that well balanced in my opinion. It’s huge, with no lines of sight, spread out gens, and it takes forever to get around it. It strongly favours “hold W” gameplay as well which sucks. And good luck getting to a hooked survivor before they hit struggle, particularly if the killer hangs around (which I can’t really blame them for doing considering the layout).

It’s like the worst faults of Midwich x1000. No exaggerating, every time I get this map, someone disconnects as soon as they see what it is. LOL.

  • It depends. If they’re camping hooks, hard tunnelling, BMing or running tons of slowdowns then no. If they’re obviously just playing to learn/playing chill, or if they got unlucky with bad RNG, then yeah. I’ll stop doing gens and go for totems or chests, or give them free hits and hooks.

Same as when I play killer, I won’t show mercy to someone who rubs me the wrong way but if a survivor seems chill then I’ll ease up or give them hatch/gates.

1 … 8 9 10 11 12 … 50
