  • Double BP is basically the only reason I run it. Take that away and I'd likely never run BBQ again. The aura thing is more of a happy bonus than a reason to use it.

  • I mean...if you've been playing since February and still don't like it, there's no use throwing good money (or in this case now, time) after bad.

I personally find the game incredibly enjoyably and I play it constantly. I rarely run into bugs personally so that probably helps my opinion of it but I have found that for every really bad game with toxic #########, I also get a number of really good games. Sure, sometimes they're still toxic ######### in the really good games but plenty of times, I get really good games against really good players and have the time of my life.

Ultimately, it's up to you to determine if the warts on the game outweigh the greatness that the game can give you. But if you've been playing that long and STILL are not enjoying it, I'm not sure what else the game can do to make you change your mind.

EDIT: For reference, I play both sides pretty equally (probably killer gets the slight edge time-wise as I'm a solo player so probably 60/40). I am also Red Ranked on both sides, generally between Ranks 1-3 pending on how many good games versus bad games I can string together...

  • Strangely enough, since the event started, I have yet to run into an Ebony Mori

  • I sure hope they're good after the event considering they're broken right now :D

  • I wanna go fast!

Wait, I mean, I wanna be killer!

I find both roles super enjoyable so I will continue flip flopping from survivor to killer and back again.

  • I've never heard it referred to as "Zoning" but that makes sense and I absolutely do that (even with killers who aren't the doctor).

Any killer worth their salt should have map awareness and use their own body position to try to force survivors to go in your desired direction (generally away from pallets/windows or towards the Basement). It's probably easier with someone like The Doctor but if you're not pushing the survivors in certain directions during chase, you're not being as effective as you could be.

  • I really wish people would stop using the cakes :,(

Save them until The Cake Fix is in people!!!!

  • Well there's your first mistake; picking up someone without turning your character to face a wall or a tree or a rock or some kind of physical obstacle.

The Trees are not all that reliable (flashlight seems to go right through it, though the Megs then have to point it at your face without being able to see your face) but anytime there are flashlights, I keep an eye out to down a person when they're near some kind of item that I can use to block line of sight against the flashlights.

  • It's not all that fair (and it sucks donkey for the poor bastard you end up tunneling) but it's up to you to determine if it is something you wish to do.

I personally do not do it as I play both sides so I am well acquainted with how much it sucks (do unto others and whatnot). But you do you.

  • Then I guess I'll be not smart shrugs

I have a FAQ for these things because you'll just make the same tired arguments every other day when this same tired thread pops up but something seems to be going wrong with the Forum as I can't access previous posts...

EDIT: Got it to work; my usual post whenever "Self Care is a bad perk" threads show up every other day. It was just easier this way than to keep typing out the same tired arguments day after day after day after day after day...

*There really is no such thing as a good or bad perk; just good ways and bad ways to use it

I personally use Self Care (as a level 1 Red) because I have found that there is one survivor I can actually count on in this game in Solo; Me

I have been burned far far far too many times by fellow survivors just unhooking me and bolting as fast as they can away from me. So I need a way to fix myself without needing another player. Now for the FAQ:

    1. Why don't you run Pharmacy or X perk? Either way I'm burning a perk spot so what does it matter if I burn it with Self Care or with another perk that usually will take even longer than it does to just Self Care?
    2. Why don't you bring a med kit? Because sometimes I want to run a tool kit or a map or a rubber chicken. Med Kits will also run out if I manage to get hit multiple times throughout the game
    3. Why do you just run into the corner and heal while you let me sit on the hook!!!!? I don't, see my second sentence where I stated that there are good ways and bad ways to use a perk. Letting the team get slaughtered so that I go hide in the corner of the map to heal is the bad way to use self care. There are bad ways to use every perk but you don't see people yelling about how X Perk is awful.
    4. Why don't you just play wounded? Because I'm not great at chases and I find I can be a lot more effective in chases if I know I can take a hit. I can burn a lot more of the killers time if I can take two hits than if I start wounded and go down in one shot.*

  • I've had people unhook me and try to heal me as my trap was beeping, following me around and try to heal me as I look for my RNG

Oi! Get the hell away from me you dum dum! I'm not going to take 16 seconds to heal when I have a minute left and three more RNGs to search before I get turned into a Pez dispenser!

  • I rarely do it as well as I'd rather just give my team the extra time to help me. Unless it is clear that I'm not going to be getting any help, I don't try to save myself ever.

Do it or don't but the people I ######### DESPISE are the ones who try to do it when I am on my way to them. I had one where we were playing Hag so they were surrounded by Teleport Traps. I'm crouch walking to them with plenty of time when the ######### decides to try to Kobe himself off and now I have to rush to get to him, triggering a trap and getting a smack in the process.

I should have just left him hanging in the wind...

It's not exactly that kind of killer though. Like the ones we have in the game.

That's why I think it would make a better "Survivor Only" DLC if they did it. The killer in LiS is just....boring. There's also the pretty questionable content of what exactly he does with his young college girl victims before murdering them (I don't believe the game ever outright says he sexually assaulted them but it seemed heavily implied to me).

Although I guess we do have Freddy "It is also heavily implied he sexually assaulted kids" Krueger so maybe that wouldn't be a big issue. I feel the biggest issue with him would just be from a gameplay perspective as they are just a pretty run of the mill murderer rather than having anything unique or interesting about them (I don't know why I'm still being coy about who the killer is considering multiple people have already said his name but whatevs...)

I loved Tales from the Borderlands, and I did play like 30 minutes of the first game years ago so I'm going to try them out eventually.

I was kind of hoping for a killer only DLC to balance out Ash and Bill tbh.

Tales from Borderlands is like...my third favorite Telltale game so you made a good choice (Walking Dead Season 1 being undisputed King and Batman Evil Within being my 2nd choice)

Ah ok, I really should play those games.

Maybe time powers in an area? Force you backwards in time while the killer walks through the area? Gen slow down power? There's ways to incorporate time powers but I don't know the exact extent of hers though.

I would highly recommend LiS (and the prequel Before the Storm) if you like adventure style games (specifically what Telltale did). I didn't love LiS2 but it was also solid. Before the Storm was the real surprise as usually I hate prequels but I dare say it was the best of the 3 games.

There are certainly ways you could incorporate Max's powers as a survivor (maybe a healing perk like self care where you "rewind time" to before you were hit) if BHVR really wanted to try to fit her in.

Honestly though, you'd probably be better off not even trying to squeeze the killer in as they are super generic and really more of a McGuffin in the game to drive the story forward rather than someone who is actually engaging or interesting to deal with. They've done it before with Ash Williams so it's not unprecedented that they would do a survivor-only DLC.

  • @coppersly said:

Who would even be the killer?

I haven't played the games yet but from my understanding it's some supernatural storm vs a lesbian with time powers and her friends? Who would be killing the survivors? I'd play as a storm but I don't think it's likely lol.

There is actually a killer in the game (Her powers are what drives the gameplay but the killer is the driver of the story).

I don't really see how any of it would work since her powers are primarily reversing time but sure, if BHVR could figure it out, why not.

I'm not gonna hold my breath for it though

  • The only reason I pay any attention to gamertags is to try to see if I should expect a SWAT SWF Team (and even then, the only thing that will do is have me bring a Mori; I won't actually use it until SST is confirmed).

I treat everyone the same during the match unless you specifically do something in game to me to convince me otherwise.

  • I've had matches that went sideways and sideways QUICK

I haven't had that happen v Pyramid Head yet though. Usually it's against a one shot killer like Billy and they just get weirdly lucky with a few runs.

  • I had someone suicide on the hook yesterday immediately and they were using the cake offering for 100% bonus BP. I guess they didn't want to play The Spirit so badly that they were willing to piss away one of the best offerings to not play :D

  • When I get hate mail, I just give'm the old "Thumbs Up" emoji. I never actually respond or engage with them.

Usually they won't respond or they'll respond with approx 5,000 new messages of whine.

  • The old "Superman v Batman Dawn of Justice" rule. Makes sense.

There's nothing unsportsmanlike about pressing the advantage. Play literally any team sport and accuse the other team of poor sportsmanship for playing in a way your team can't handle. You'll be laughed out of the field.

If I was playing DBD for millions of dollars, I would 1000% agree.

But we're not playing DBD for millions of dollars (if we were, I'd use every single dirty trick in the book to get my 4K :P).

We're playing a fun game for the fun of it. Yes, tunneling can be super effective but most survivors (and some killers, including yours truly) find it to be a cheap tactic that sucks the fun out of the game.

People are 100% allowed to do it. I feel like it sucks the fun out of the game for everyone involved but it's their call to determine if they tunnel.

  • You are certainly free to tunnel but I will curse your name :D

It's basically one of those "unsportsman" ways to play. You're certainly free to do it but you're using cheap tactics that also essentially ruin one individuals game.

Personally as a killer, I feel it's a terribly boring way to play but I'm also not all that concerned with getting 4Ks so I don't tunnel. I won't ignore someone if they're the only one I see but if I ever have an option to go after someone else instead, I will. I just think it makes the game more fun for all involved since if you tunnel someone out super early, the other survivors have a tendency to turtle up and just hide from you rather than risk being the next tunnel victim. It almost certainly has cost me games not tunneling but I'd rather have a fun game than "win" with a 4k.

  • Fool me once, shame on, shame on you.

Fool me, you can't get fooled again.

  • Using the cage has its own risk/rewards for the killer but when it comes to tunneling, using the cage seems like a bad idea.

This is of course anecdotal but I have found that way more often than not, the survivors can get to the cage before PH can. Hell, I've had the cage spawn feet away from me as a survivor; I had them uncaged and healed before PH could wander across the map.

I don't tunnel but if I did, I'd think I'd rather use the hooks and know exactly where my victim is than to roll the dice and hope that I can walk across the map before the other survivors get to the caged person. BT/DS will save a tunneled victim a hit (two at the very most if they happen to get both perks at once) but if I'm a true tunneler, I'll just keep going after them.

  • I just had it happen as well. I even got all my BP from the match and everything.

Still got the penalty though :(

"Body blocking is a valid playstyle" Survivor mains before Silent Hill release.

I gave a vote but that feels too puny a reward for how I chuckled so you also get a quote and a LOL for that post

  • I wouldn't mind that but that's pretty situational. For me, I wouldn't mind trying to figure out Nurse again but I was getting stomped as her when I first started playing. I can't imagine trying to figure out how to use her while playing Red Ranks...

  • That's Bob!

I know you want to feel bad for Bob but don't. Bob was an #########.

  • I have zero issues with my Xbox copy of DBD so I'm good. I suppose it could be prettier but I don't play DBD because of the cutting edge graphics.

Good luck with your boycott or whatever you want to call this thing

  • I got 50K too

I guess BHVR likes me but they don't "like" like me the way they clearly feel about some of you

Yeah I'll typically give the AFK survivor a chance to come back, however once the crows start bombing me with notifications I am going to kill you.

You're kinder than I am then cause I'll usually hook them once as "punishment" for AFK (and I'll leave the survivors alone going to unhook them) but after that I leave them alone.

At least until the crows show up because that constant notification is hella annoying.

  • I see it with survivors and with killers where they'll be AFK for half a match before they come back and play. I assume it's people who start searching for a match and then for some reason wander away.

I did get a super salty message from a survivor once when I killed him while he was AFK. If you don't want to get killed while AFK, don't go AFK :D

  • I've sent messages to teammates when I inadvertently screwed them by bringing the killer their direction. Whoopsy! :D

But yeah, people who do everything they can to keep themself safe at the expense of your team are people I have no issue leaving hangin. None have ever whined at me for it but I imagine it's just a matter of time before I eventually get one...

  • Shiiiiiii, I've been playing since February and I STILL don't know what all those fiddley little symbols on my screen mean.

I've either figured out or looked up most of them at this point but I still see things that make no sense to me.

The game does diddley to give anything but the very barest of instruction. Most of the knowledge and tricks I know came from random wikis or videos.

  • I've talked about it too many times (don't worry, I won't post my FAQ this time); when I play solo, the only survivor I know I can depend on is me

If I knew I was going to be healed by teammates, I'd gladly drop Self Care for another perk but I have been in too many matches too many times where I am immediately abandoned once I am unhooked and even when I do find a survivor, they evidently care not for my cries of pain and agony as they just sit there doing bones or doing gens or picking their nose instead of helping me.

So yeah, sorry "FiFtH kIlLeR pErK!1!1" peeps but I'm keeping Self Care in my rotation

  • I've been playing as him a bunch lately as I had gotten a bunch of the DLC when I got the game and he looked like the least interesting bad guy I had bought so I just never used him

I regret that. I think he is a blast to play as. Even with that said though, he likely could use some tweaking. The chainsaw can be devastating but against a survivor who knows how to defend against it (basically don't get caught out in the open because even the smallest of obstacle loops can cause most Bubba's to fail), it's damn near impossible to actually get to use. As he is right now, you have to be damn near inside the survivor to actually be able to rev up and connect with the chainsaw and even then, it's not always a guarantee if you have anything that could possibly get in the way in the two seconds or so it takes to rev up the chainsaw.

While a speed boost or shorter rev time would be nice, I honestly think that just another swipe or two at the end of his chainsaw run might be enough. So many times I'm giving a survivor a haircut during my swings as they loop around something and it runs out of steam just before I'd have actually made connection with the survivor. I successfully did the loop with the survivor without bumping into something but even that half second I needed to make sure I'd clear an obstacle is almost always enough to let the survivor get away.

  • BHVR sent a Tweet a few days ago talking about how it wasn't something they felt should be in the game (as they wanted the characters to be basically templates for the player) but decided now that they can't do that anymore. It sounds like they plan on adding that info to every character now as they feel they can't just ignore it like they had been in the past.

    EDIT: If you're interested

    https://mobile.twitter.com/DeadByBHVR/status/1271526607828779009

  • Edit: Scratch that response, I have no need or desire to engage you further OP

  • You played against someone who wasn't playing and you had a ton of fun doing it?

Whatever floats your boat I guess...?

  • You don't have to hit four separate survivors with it (though if you hit the same person with it, you'll get knocked out of it).

I ended up getting it by stabbing three people and then stabbing the third person again :D

  • I wouldn't be against it but I doubt I'd use it. By the time I typed something on the gamepad, everybody would be gone :D

  • If someone is going to facecamp, they might as well use the best killer for it.

I love me my Leatherface but I don't facecamp or regular camp with him (though it is amazing how many survivors will unhook right in my face when I'm playing him anyway).

  • If I'm on your team, for the love of God listen to Dpooly.

If I'm the killer, feel free to disregard :D

  • It's OK to bring a mori. Period. End of sentence. No qualifier needed.

I personally don't use mori unless forced to by a challenge or daily (and even then I won't use it until my third hook on a survivor unless my handi s forced like EGC and I don't want to risk not getting my daily done). I do this primarily because I want BP and Mori'ing right away makes me lose a bunch of BP.

If survivors don't like it, tough titties.

  • I remember how ######### this game can be for brand new players (as the game gives you no info really beyond the most basic of basic info) and when some poor yellow bastard with one perk gets into the match with a bunch of Red Ranks, I could see that absolutely crushing a new players desire to play. That Nurse I mentioned got one hit TOTAL that entire game and that was on me because I finished a gen in a basement and had to walk through the Nurse to get out.

The game has a brutal learning curve so I'm just at least trying to do my part to keep new blood injected into the game :)

  • With the messed up MM, I've been getting killers who really shouldn't be playing someone like me.

I try to send them some form of encouragement or helpful tip (for example, one guy was a Nurse who kept chasing me but never used Blink so I messaged them to let them know the speed difference and how you'll never catch a survivor in a straight chase as the nurse).

  • I don't think I'm going to even bother with it. Once all my challenges are done, I may main Dwight and just hope I get an AFK killer at some point I can hide behind.
