I think it'd be a cool idea to get a little BP each time the Survivor completes the wrong puzzle box. RNG, sure, but a little bonus Deviousness for having a survivor waste time.

Especially because I can't think of too many more devious things than having someone have a bomb strapped to their head that will go off if they fail to find the key and then having the box literally laugh at them because the key wasn't in that box

If that's not rubbing salt in someone's wound, I don't know what is!

  • Don't be so timid

If there's one thing I'm learning from this messed up MM system (since I'm Red but I keep getting put with Greens/Yellows), it's that new players are so often scared out of their mind to do anything if the killer is within 6,000 meters of the person being hooked.

I have been one hooked so many times lately (I don't try to unhook myself ever and did the struggle the entire time so it's not like I gave up within 30 seconds) because all three auras I can see are hiding and timidly walking over before running away instead of helping me off the hook.

This is something that took me a lot longer to learn than it should have...getting killed in this game really isn't all that big of a deal. Take some chances (not stupid chances like unhooking someone right in front of the killer) because if it bites you in the ass, you can just move onto the next match.

Yeah its odd hate when it happens I also got hit with the DC penalty cause of this

I've had it be maybe 50/50. I've had this happen with no penalty and I've had this happen where I got a 5 minute timeout.

Thankfully (for me at least), this is a "one in thirty" games kind of situation. It happens but it's rare.

  • From what I've heard from others (i haven't been playing for that long so I'm taking their word for it), back in the day they used to have a punishment for campers (sounds like the timer would either stop or slow down immensely when the killer was within X meters from the hooked). Survivors just abused the hell out of it and essentially would just constantly loop around the hooked area. For your solution, you just need to loop around the area long enough for the auto-blind to kick in and now the killer just got punished for having the audacity to be where the non-hooked survivors are.

Even if you say "Well if they are in a chase, the mechanic doesn't work" but then you have survivors just hiding in the hooked area (so the killer knows you're in the area but since they are not "actively" chasing you because you're hiding, they now can't look for you because you're using the hooked person as a human shield).

That to me is always going to be the biggest issue with punishing camping. There are times when either camping IS the best play (like EGC is active with the gates being opened and none of the other survivors are injured so you won't be able to down anyone if you go after them) or survivors will use abuse the mechanic.

  • It looks like the connection with the server was lost

It happens every so often. Basically I'll still be playing but no one else will be (their characters are doing whatever action they were doing before the disconnect so in your case, someone was searching a chest and someone was using Self Care so their character was "locked" in that animation)

It's annoying but it's not likely you (or they) did anything wrong or did something to cause it. Just once in a while the server goes LOL JK to working right and everything dies.

  • I ended up getting it done by using Legion's Feral Frenzy and Discordance. Basically I knew two people were on a generator and when I got down there, I only saw one so I hit them with Frenzy. That allowed my heart beat thingy to point out that a survivor was hiding in a locker. A mild fake out later (I faced away from the locker walking over near it so that the survivor wouldn't get spooked and just try to bolt if they suspected I knew they were in there) and I had my challenge done.

Granted, I might have just gotten lucky with this. A more experienced player might realize that Frenzy gave me a radar right to them but that's how I managed to get the challenge done without just farming for it.

I was being a jerk for giving her free points? Ok karen πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

You were being a jerk for working together with a survivor and not playing the game. If people being upset by you wasting their time makes them a Karen, then so be it.

But I can see this will be a super constructive and good conversation already so feel free to smugly declare yourself the winner of the argument while I abandon thread.

  • Then yes, it is bannable (you probably won't get banned assuming it's the first time you're doing it and that she actually reports it) and no, I will not "laugh at the Karen" because you were being a jerk.

Some of us don't have a ton of free time so having a game ruined by a survivor and a killer working together instead of getting to play the game as intended is super irksome.

  • It's only against the rules if it is being used to grief them (knock them down, survivor picks them up, you knock them down again; that kind of thing).

Basically if you are forcing them to participate in your farming and taking them hostage to do it is when it is against the rules

  • The 2 minute timer on them starts once the trap is put onto someone's head and then a generator is completed. So yes, at the end game, they are useless besides the 500 deviousness points you get from putting one on.

  • If you're both at the hatch before it opens (and the killer is standing in the right spot), the killer gets priority.

  • Huh...I never noticed that only happened as a killer and not as a survivor

Like you said, it's only 5 seconds so it's not like a big deal but I am now curious about it too...

  • Because some people are ######### who can't have fun without making someone else miserable.

Since in real life they'd get knocked the fuq out when they eventually piss off the wrong person, they do it in digital life where they unfortunately can't take the punch to the nose that they so rightly deserve.

  • It's a major part of why I stopped worrying so much about getting 4K every game.

I get plenty of points drawing the game out (not tunneling, not camping, kicking gens, etc) and I find the games are way more fun that way too. Nothing exciting about tunneling two survivors out right away and have to play hide and go seek with two survivors since 3 gens are still in play.

As a survivor, I also appreciate killers playing for this kind of fun versus the sweaty try hards that are so obsessed with a 4k that they make the game boring. I try to play as the kind of killer I want to face.

  • Isn't that the entire risk/reward of using totems?

Some of the placements are easy to find. Some are less easy to find. Some are so hidden that it's almost certainly the illegitimate love child of Waldo and Carmen Sandiego. You're placing your hopes and dreams in the RNG.

  • I'd never play a game that tried to pull that ######### so I guess I'd initially be very mad at the money I wasted buying DLC before waiting for DBD to absolutely crash and burn trying to implement such a God awful system.

Culling couldn't get people to play it when it was a normal game setup. I have no idea what in the hell they are doing thinking anyone would pay for such a pay to play arcade style setup...

  • The vast majority of forums I've ever been on has Mods close any threads when they are duplicate topics like that. I'm kind of shocked this place doesn't do that too.

So many actual interesting and unique topics get buried immediately because every user who wants to complain about NOED or The Hatch or Freddy being OP or "insert flavor of the week" decides they need to be a super special snowflake and create their own thread about it instead of talking about it in the dozen of threads that already exist.

I'd like an emote that has the survivor show off their item. The survivor would hold their item out on display for a couple seconds and if other survivors were close enough they'd see a little icon showing the item, its rarity and the attached add ons. Would be a good way for solos to indicate they have a key to unlock the hatch, a map to show where the hatch is, a medkit with a syringe, etc.

I like that idea too, especially if it's a key so that people can communicate "Everyone is dead!!! Come with me if you want to live" (Arnold accent optional but highly encouraged).

  • The only emote I'd really like added is a Thank You for thanking people who heal me. But I think most people accept the double butt dance as the universal Thank You so it's not a huge deal to get it.

    in Emotes Comment by tippy2k2
  • I don't use it :(

I found that survivors usually cleared it before I got to use it. At best, I'd get to use it once before the survivors realised it was in play and then I'd lose it.

Just not worth the spot for how little I ever got to use it (same reason I don't use Ruin).

  • I've reported people for doing that as to me, that is clearly an abuse of game mechanics to troll a player

I don't know if anything actually happened to them for it but in mind, that's malicious abuse

  • You broke "Rules for Killers" -by Survivors #4,384; you tried to kill the survivors. That makes you a toxic #########. Sorry but those are the rules.

To post an actual post though, there are people who can't have fun unless they bring you down. Had you won, you'd be a baby killer tryhard loser. You lost so that makes you a sweaty toxic tryhard killer.

Personally, I either ignore them or if I'm feeling trollish after a win, just give them a thumbs up.

  • Likely it was Lag. You saw yourself at the window and the killer downstairs wiping their weapon off when in actuality you were at the window and the killer was about to jam their weapon up your bum.

  • The arguments didn't come out of nowhere, that's basically just what this forum does all the God damn time...

User 1: Makes a unique thread about something they don't like that hasn't been talked about in forever

User 2-6677722354834: Oh that's something I hate too! I'm going to make a new thread about it instead of just commenting on THE DAMN THREAD THAT ALREADY EXISTS!!!!!!

    Every. Freakin. Time.

  • I'd say something useful but @MrPenguin has already hit the home run. I know when I play Myers, it is rare that the survivor who got me to 99% Stabby is the one who ultimates takes the stabby.

  • I think the only mild issue (that should be fixable) is knowing which Archive Challenge to have on. If I have my challenge for Survivors on and I get put in the Killer Queue, I'm going to be bummed.

Other than that, I'd love for that feature. I play pretty 50/50 and so I'm game to play either role. Heck, sometimes I kind of want to play both so letting "fate" decide which mode to play would be fun.

  • I don't think it's some huge injustice that ruins the game that some seem to think it is based on other threads of this topic but I do think some kind of penalty needs to be done to restart a gen. Whether that is a second or two to truly "restart" the gen or maybe an immediate skillcheck (so stops the regression but your character gets that slowdown from the big bang in their face).

  • Why stop at 6? 7 gens! 10 gens!!! 20 GENS!!!

For less of a jerk answer, 5 is plenty fine. There are always going to be SWAT SWF Teams that use every possible second the most effective way and you're just kind of DOA as the killer but those are exceptions, not the rule.

  • Every time I pick someone up, I just start my own internal timer to when they'd break free (approx 20 seconds if they are struggling right away and the whole time)

I've never done that with BT since I'll just smack the body blocker and if they have BT, I'll just continue the chase but I imagine it wouldn't be very hard to just count down 20 seconds (using 20 since the wiki says Tier 3 gives you 20 so I'm under the assumption the bad guy is using T3 BT) in your head the same way I count when I pick up a survivor.

  • Getting slugged by an ######### killer who just wastes four minutes of your life is annoying but I would take the 5% of matches that happens in over the unGodly amount of DCing that was happening preDC penalty.

DCers ruin the game and waste the time of four people. If the game wasn't so buggy where innocent people are forced to disconnect sometimes (although I can count on one hand the times I've had the game bug out on me but enough people complain that I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt that it happens enough to be cautious about DC penalties), I'd even go so far to say that 5 minutes isn't enough of a punishment. I suppose that time exponentially jumps if a DCer keeps doing it so that will have to due...

  • As a killer, I love seeing someone jump in that window πŸ˜‡

I bought Leatherface when I first got the game (in February) and I never bothered to level him up until now because I wanted to try a new killer.

Silly Tippy! The dude is a lot more fun to play than I expected (I hate playing Bubba so I wasn't thrilled to play ANOTHER chainsaw killer) but he's fun to play and this perk is insanely good (especially for a relatively new player like me as I need to get Kate and Legion leveled up as I bought them when they turned into the survivor/Killer in the Archive this round).

Can you link me the list please? Because I cant find any list that says camping is not allowed.

the following are NOT considered bannable offenses - please do NOT report

    • Camping
    • Slugging
    • Tunneling
    • Streamsniping
    • Teabagging
    • Bodyblocking
    • Looping

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/19450/game-rules-and-report-system

these are (!!!!) NOT (!!!!) bannable offenses. Camping is also not griefing, the devs said that its a legit strategy. Therefor it does comply with the Xbox CoC.

I didn't say camping wasn't allowed. I said the exact opposite of that...

*It is listed under things to be reported for some reason but the dev has specifically stated that it is not reportable*

As in, camping is something you can report but nothing is going to happen because it's not a reportable offense. I could report a killer for hitting me but it's not going to do anything because hitting the survivors is not bannable. Same with camping.

  • It is listed under things to be reported for some reason but the dev has specifically stated that it is not reportable

So you can report it to your hearts content but the reports are just going to go right into the trash as invalid reports

  • The issues with survivor bp is that everything you do is reactionary to the killer rather than proactive on your part. A survivor CAN get full BP in a game but it's so dependent on your teammates and the killers actions that it is rare.

Killer is bad and can't get hits/hooks; no altruism. Killer tunnels you? No survival/objectives. Killer can't chase to save their life? No boldness. Etc etc etc.

  • @Fibijean said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1280112#Comment_1280112

What he said in full was that camping is intentionally balanced in such a way that it keeps the killer distracted while the survivors work on generators. In other words, camping as it stands now is supposed to be relatively unrewarding as a strategy as long as survivors punish it rather than feeding it. He also acknowledged that it's not much fun for the survivor on the hook, which is something that the developers aren't happy with and are looking into adjustments they could make to change that.

JFC the OP should go into politics with how well they cherry picked a completely out of context line and got so many people to bite without them even considering that maybe there's more to those four words than meets the eye...

  • I do feel better!

I tried the Beta and it was just....really really boring. As survivors it was boring, as Mastermind it was boring, it was just plain boring.

I've heard that the game is also insanely impossible to get in as The Mastermind so I'm kind of glad that the Beta did so little to sell me on it. Although I guess if the mode was better, maybe it would have actual people playing it...

  • I haven't had any errors or crashes but the games are taking an abnormally long time to get into. As a killer, I'm used to damn near instant games but right now it's about four minutes or so. Survivor I'm used to longer queues so it might be slightly longer than usual but nothing too out there.

  • You already said mine; stunning the killer.

There's so many factors that can screw it up. Are the pallets setup in a good way for you to run? Is the killer going to stutter step to avoid the stun? Will the killer chase someone else first who will throw down all 5,267 pallets in the Trial somehow? Will I even get chased in this game because the killer seems to have never played DBD in their life before and can be lost if I take a left turn?

So many things I have to rely on as a survivor to get that stupid challenge...

  • I wouldn't play as a killer if I didn't enjoy it

Sure you get the SWAT SWF Teams every so often that kind of ruin the experience but that's just kind of expected in a competitive game that you'll once in a while run into groups who try WAAAAAAAAAAAAY too hard. I've learned a few tricks about murdering SWAT SWF Teams that has at least made it more enjoyable.

  • Sorry the jerks in the player base broke you

The game can be super fun and awesome but I completely understand why someone would just have enough and abandon ship.

While I do feel that like...80% of the base and games are good and sporting, you only remember the 20% #########. For myself, I kind of just accept that some of the games are just going to be fuqed by jerks. It sucks but not much you can do about it but take the hit or determine it's not worth the effort and quit the game.

  • Honestly, dump the entire DBD setup and just make it Ash and Evil Dead bad guys!

Ruby, Tiny Little Ashes, Deadites (either generic ones or you can do specific Deadites), Ashy Slashy, Evil Twin Ash, Cougie as posted above; the list is endless!!!!

  • FINALLY someone asks the important questions!

Ashy Slashy deserves his time in the spotlight!

  • For my joke answer, sentient cars firing machine guns!!!!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRuVTDJpVxA

For an actual answer, Randall Flagg would be freakin sweet (specifically Dark Tower Randall Flagg)

  • Boneless Wings are glorified Chicken Nuggets and I will die on that hill.

  • Also as a Side Note with everything else, personally I'd just stop caring about rank.

This isn't a direct competitive game like sports or fighting games where your rank would (mostly) correspond to your actual skill.

I've seen low ranked killers wipe the floor with red survivors (especially now with goofy MM) and I've seen Reds who look like they've never played the game in their life. Rank in DBD is not a direct result of your ability and skills as there are far too many factors out of your control when it comes to a Trial.

I've found the game is far more enjoyable now than it was when I worried about rank.

  • @FixThisGame69 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1277884#Comment_1277884

I see your point and have doubted my skills often, maybe I just am not good enough to get to rank 1 as a killer, but tell me why was it so easy for me to reach rank 1 as a survivor?

They make it easy to reach rank 1 for survivor, so why not make it fair for the killers? Are we just supposed to accept the fact that rank 1 killers have more skill than a rank 1 survivor? I do not want to accept that.

Another thing that is annoying is when SWF groups spam you with party invites and messages cyber bullying the killer. It hurts my feelings and gives me a bad experience when I play this game.

I do agree that getting to Rank 1 Survivor for some reason is way easier than Killer R1 (I'm a FAR better killer than I am a survivor but my killer rank is lower than my survivor rank). I wonder if there's actually something to that or if it just feels that way. I imagine a big part though is getting a good group of survivors (not even SWAT Teams, just random groups who are good) is far harder to beat as a killer than running into a really good killer. No matter how good a killer is, they can only really focus on one survivor out of the four per game where survivors only have one killer to deal with.

As for the SWAT Team SWF, it does definitely make the game less enjoyable when you run into them (especially as you stated, a lot of them seem to also go out of their way to be ######### about it) but I don't know how you could smack the 15% of SWF groups who are SWAT Teams about it without directly screwing the 85% of people who just want to play with buddies.
