It's kind of icky and annoying but that's how Battle Passes get people to buy them. Essentially constantly tempt them with "look at all this cool stuff you would get! Don't you want to be cool like all the cool people with the cool stuff of coolness?"

You really need to blame the game for this IMO, not the killer. There's absolutely no benefit for the killer to kill the 3rd survivors. If anything, it simply gives the chance for last one to escape.
If they want to address this issue, they need to implement a new mechanic like EGC.
Personally as a Killer, I just kill the third guy. If the fourth survivor gets away via the Hatch because I don't know where it is or because it is too far away for me to get to it, so be it. I find slugging incredibly cheap the same way I view tunneling and camping so I don't do it to survivors since I don't like it being done to me when I'm a survivor.

sorry man but i need those points plus i just try to find hatch then kill the guy i slugged and start the egc
It is a legit strategy for a killer to do, even if I don't like it. But you asked why people hate it; it's super boring for the slugged. Until there is a way to counter it (without throwing a perk slot away on the off-chance the killer is a slugger), people are going to complain about it.
-
You said it yourself; it's boring
Especially killers who do it when there are only two people left since usually that means the slugged gets to sit there for four minutes waiting for the timer to run out.

This post made me laugh several times, thank you! <3
Would you say that you escape through the Exit Gates more often than not? I cannot seem to escape for the life of me. Several times it's been a 3k and I'm just standing at the Exit Gate waiting for it to open and the Killer just walks over. Even if I play the endgame very stealthy they always get me when I'm on the door. Though often the doors seem to be spitting distance from each other.
Usually I've found when I do get away, it's through the Exit Gate and it's going to be with other people. I very rarely Escape because of The Hatch and I'm too altruistic for my own good because I won't leave the Trial unless either everyone is safe and good or if my hand is forced (like I'm injured and being chased out but if the killer splits away from me before I escape, I'll try to heal first to go help whoever is stuck on the hook).
My 50/50 escape chances would probably jump if I were greedier and willing to just abandon people but I find that a lot less fun personally :D
-
I have found it's basically a coin flip.
Sometimes I'm unlucky and sprint into the killers blade. Every choice I make somehow gets me right in front of the killer. Sometimes I can survive if the survivors I'm with are especially altrustic and take pity upon me and my suicidal decisions.
Sometimes I'm on a team of sentient potatoes that somehow started a game. Once in a blue moon I can manage to win anyway if the killer is too busy slaughtering those dum dums for me to get away.
If I'm having a good game (and manage to not jump onto the killers blade like a moth to a flame) with at least an OK team, I will usually get out alive.
-
Most of my perks are for running away because I suck at running away and need all the help I can get...
I play as a Stealthy Ninja Boi and prefer to not get into chases as I don't think I'm very good at them. I've gotten better at them but the killer can't catch what they don't see!
-
Whether you rage quit or your equipment pooped the bed on you, the result is the same and four other people's game got ruined.
I'm sorry you got punished for something out of your control but the game has no way to tell the difference and ultimately the end result is still 4 people got their game ruined because your wifi sucks.
-
Because I'm too pretty to die here!
And like you said in your first sentence, why punish someone not involved because someone earlier was a jerk to you? Sure, this person might also be a jerk or they might be super nice and they want to play the game the right way.
I'd rather give someone the benefit of the doubt by playing the right way than punish some innocent player who would have been a great teammate just because a previous game soured me.
-
My assumption is it just makes it more likely that you'd play with/against that person later
But that's just an assumption. I have no idea what, if anything, it actually does

It doesn't sound to me like the report system does nothing, just that you have to put some effort in if you want things to get looked at. If you want to accuse someone of doing something wrong you bear the burden of proof, seems fair to me.
See I was just listing alternatives that are way worse than what is in place right now and honestly I don't think what you describe is a better solution.
If one just needed to press a button to get BHVR to look at things the team responsible for doing so would possibly drown in false reports with no way of discarding them. BHVRs staff would have to sift through thousands of games which were reported by players who were merely upset because they lost, didn't like the way others played, reports from inexperienced players who assume cheating by mistake and whatnot.
With the way it is now I think there's a lot less false reports by salty people or that it is at the very least easier to filter those out because I doubt that everyone who wants to get back at someone has the match recorded and/or is willing to put in the effort to go through the procedure of reporting.
It is a good compromise between having no system whatsoever and wasting manhours to analyze thousands of falsely reported games imo, even if some legitimnate reports may slip by this way.
If the game had some kind of built-in way to submit more detailed reports and video, I would 100% agree.
Instead though, it is such a tedious process right now to report something that it doesn't seem worth it.
You are right to say there does need to be a bit of balance from making it too easy so that people don't just flood BHVR with reports on people who did nothing wrong because they're a salty boi but right now, this process is so user unfriendly that it isn't really worth the effort. Like I stated it took me almost a half hour to finally get the report submitted with all the hoops I had to jump through and I knew I needed the video evidences so I made sure to take it (granted, you could probably now shave a little bit of time off of that since I now have a BHVR account setup to submit tickets).
I can't imagine how disheartening trying to report someone so blatantly cheating only to be told "Sorry, pics or it didn't happen LOLOLOLOLOL" would be to someone trying to report a jerk ruining the game for people. If this game had a built-in recording system or something, that I could understand but as of right now, unless you happen to Twitch Stream everything you do and have it always set to keep the recordings of your games, there's no good way to report people breaking the rules.

So you'd rather not have a report system and anything be done about it at all? Or a system that banned players based on reports without evidence, guilty or not?
Where did I say either of those things?
If the In-Game Report system does absolutely nothing as it sounds like is the case, then yeah, get rid of it because it's useless at best or disheartening at worst as people think they're sending in reports to stop people from cheating that doesn't do anything. Why in the hell would you have a reporting system that goes right into the trash can?
If the In-Game Report system DOES allow BHVR to look into it, why do we have to upload video proof of the cheating? BHVR should be able to look at their own game data to see. Even if they don't record the actual match, one would think that they could have basic information that would tell the story (Player A is on the hook, Player B repeatedly pushes A to take Player A off the Hook while KILLER stands six feet away and watches until Player A dies, in which then Player B skips merrily to the Hatch while the Killer stares at them). You can see with game data that Player B is working with the Killer. There is your proof.
The entire point of an In-Game Report system should be to flag BHVR to look into something. If BHVR looks into it and sees no wrong doing, problem solved, no one gets punished.
-
I do really hate the cheater report system in this game.
I had a survivor who was working with the killer. At the end, the survivor gets me caught and I'm in the "struggle" phase on the hook. The survivor just sat there unhooking me (but didn't let the animation finish so he just kept hooking and unhooking me) while the killer sat there.
I'm struggling to get my phone to the camera mode so that I can record while tapping on the A button to keep myself in the game so I can report this #########. I got it recorded and had to send it to myself so I could upload the information to the site. I then had to create an all new log-in for their reporting site. I then had to give them my user information, the "cheaters" user information, and go into the settings and write out my Player ID. Overall, it took me about a half-fuqin-hour just to report one guy that may or may not ever be punished for cheating.
Like...what is even the point of having an In-Game Report System that can't see if what I'm reporting is legit? I get that they probably don't have videos of every single game recorded but how is there not some kind of game log or something that would demonstrate that this guy was cheating like this? If the In-Game Report System is that useless, then why even bother having it and making people think that their reporting is going to do anything?

I feel like everyone LOVES Spine Chill and I just don't get it. I put it on after seeing it in the "Perks you can't play without" thread and I just found it meh.
The killer has to be looking at you to get any of the bonuses so getting the slight speed check to gens/gates/totems is virtually useless because they either are chasing someone (so not looking at me) or they're on their way to stab me in the face, in which case it's time to move.
It doesn't seem to work well for me as a warning system either because if they can see me to activate it, I can see them too. I keep my head on a swivel when I'm doing stuff so maybe others like it so they can concentrate on Great Skill Checks or something...
I'm surprised you wouldn't have Kindred in the S Tier. If you're a solo player, it's virtually a must have to tell if the killer is making s'mores or not. Maybe it's only an A since SWF can render it meaningless...
Funny enough, I don't use a single S Tier pf yours. I don't like DS as I found most killers have now gotten wise to it and will slug if they tunnel you rather than grab you. Spine Chill I talked about. BT I just don't have unlocked from Bill so maybe I'd use it more if I tried it. IW I've never really tried but I usually have self care on so I usually don't need to be worried about being hurt and making noises. And DH I have found just too inconsistent in working (whether that's user error or the servers is up to debate).
-
Because some people can't have fun without tearing someone down. Them winning or doing well isn't enough for The #########; they need to be sure that you know how bad you are and how much superior that makes them in every way in gaming and in life than you.
-
I mean...if you're the last survivor on the first hook, the killer is just going to chill until they know you're not going to magically KOBE your way out of the situation.

Tru Dat
I've found it's very unreliable to "see" Ghost Face. If I see GF, I just high tail it out of there and try to break his stealth on the run.
-
In theory at least if you are getting the notifications for him looking at you, that means your stealth is about to break and therefore won't be able to one-hit people now...
-
You can remove it from the game!
But people get cranky when you tell them what they should do to remove NOED :(
-
You didn't ask :P
-
It does for the survivor t-bagging cause I'm gonna go murder them now! :D
-
I played as her twice and have basically vowed never again.
I understand she has a steep learning curve that once you master makes her one of the best killers in the game but I found her so frustrating and inconsistent that I just gave up on her.
I swear every other teleport I'd teleport inside the survivor I'm so close, swing, aaaaaaand nothing connects. Then to rub it in, she stumbles and sways like a drunk that ran into a street lamp that jumped out of nowhere. Now I didn't get a hit and I have to try to win the teleportation lottery all over again...

@zakazan I'm talking about games where killer and survivors stop playing topwards the objective and just do actions to farm bloodpoints. In my case: killer downs me, another survivor revives. The killer then downs me again and the cycle repeats itself. I do not bleed out and I cannot really do anything to break the cycle.
@tippy2k2 But this means I have to record the ocurrence, right? My computer doesn't have the juice for that.
Yup, unfortunately.
You could just use your phone or something to record it. Doesn't have to be pretty as long as you get video proof (which still baffles me, how da fuq does BHVR not have at least data from each game that would demonstrate someone clearly farming like that?).
-
It's against the rules (taking the game hostage) and reportable.
-
Ok. Byeeeeeeeee!

I had three sacrifices in the basement. One last survivor left and I spotted him as he sprints toward the hatch.
WHACK!
Survivor down! Victory will finally be mine!!! Match after match after friggin match and I've got it!!!!
Two steps from the basement hook. Two measly tiny little steps...
The survivor wiggles out and escapes through the Hatch
*Hello Darkness my Old Friend*
-
I don't own Oni, otherwise I'd play a few games in your honor :(
-
I hear people talk about these absurb wait times but for whatever reason, I've never really experienced it (Xbox).
As killer, it is virtually instantaneous at this point. As a survivor, there has been an extended wait time compared to previous times but for me it's generally 1-5 minutes.
I don't know if it's a rank thing (I'm generally bouncing between purple and red) or location (middle of the US probably helps) but I've never ran into these double digit wait times so many talk about here.
-
I'll say basically the same thing here as I did in there...
DCing is bad. You shouldn't DC. That being said, I can understand someone DCing without condoning it.
If a killer is just being an ######### at the end and making you lie there to bleed out, I understand why someone would get frustrated and leave. If a group of survivors clearly outmatch a killer and do everything in their power to flaunt and taunt them, I understand why they would get frustrated and leave.
I can both be against DCing but understand that someone doesn't want to throw away their precious free time going up against opponents hellbent on making the time as miserable as humanly possible.
-
@Huff said:
Dude honestly if you're at rank 5 as killer I'd already say you're doing pretty good. At that point it's mostly about fine-tuning your playstyle: doing things like red stain mindgames and moonwalking, or just simply knowing the survivor mindset. With that in mind, it also helps if you play both roles, as you kind of understand what each one would want to do in a certain situation.
Oh, playing both roles is HUGE. I have learned so many tricks as a survivor and as a killer because while playing the opposite role, I'll see my opponents do something I never thought to do.
-
For juking, don't lunge. I know it's super tempting but a good juker can dodge your lunge. It's not impossible to dodge a normal swing but it is FAR harder to dodge as they have to be dodging before you swing and get lucky.
The rest (pressure on gens, perks, etc) you'll just kind of get with experience. Try not to just guard a single gen (even if it's about ready to pop, guarding one almost always backfires on you) and figure out what perks work with your play style. Some of it too is just needing experience to unlock perks in the bloodweb so it just takes time to get.
I'm a killer who constantly moves and has no problem giving up a chase if it's going badly so I focus on gen damage perks like Surveillance and Overcharge (and like I said in the 2nd paragraph, that's a Pig and Doctor perk respectively so it took time for me to unlock them both for everyone once I figured out I liked them).
The game can have a harsh learning curve so try not to let it get you too down. We all had to take our lumps at some point.

People are allowed to have fun.
You know that, right?
I mean, if sitting there for four minutes to taunt the survivor when the game is over is fun for you, more power to you I guess.
Some of us would rather just move to the next game with our limited free time but you standing there doing nothing is also super exciting I guess...
-
Killers who waste everyone's time like that are just giant clowns with nothing better to do in life than to piss away everyone's time standing around doing nothing. I'd be more irked if it wasn't so sad.
Some of us have ish to do killer, let's finish the damn game instead of sitting around with our thumbs up our bums.
-
To my knowledge, that only happens the first few times you face that particular killer (so if you've never played Ghost Face, the tips will show up with the GF info).
After you've played that killer type a handful of times, it goes back to generic tips.
-
I don't like it but I'm not going to blame a survivor for saying "######### this ######### I'm out" at the end like that.
I don't want to lie there for four minutes when the game is over (especially if it's the last game of the night or something). I get it's a "legit tactic" for the killer to do it but to be blunt, it's a really dumb design that should probably be addressed one day by the devs.
-
Double Post
-
I respond to all Hate Mail with a Thumbs Up. They either don't message me again or it drives them nuts as every message they send me, I Thumbs Up it. Unfortunately as a killer, you could play an absolutely squeaky clean game (tactics-wise) and there's bound to be a survivor who will try to tear you down anyway, whether legit reasons or not. All you can do is blow them off and not let it bother you. I know that's easier said than done but there's no way to win in those "arguments".
I am not one to tunnel or camp (I try to not even proxy camp unless the survivors give me a reason to like they're circling me around the hooked guy for some stupid reason; I try to not tunnel/camp but I'm not going to let the survivors do stupid plays and not punish them for it) but to be blunt, if someone is being a toxic jerkface and uses all the toxic moves at their disposal to annoy me, I will make sure they go down. I won't start to actually camp until closer to the end (unless it's clear that me going after others is a losing battle like a SWAT TEAM SWF Crew) but if I have the opportunity to tunnel a toxic jerk, I 1000% will. If it's the end game, I will ignore other survivors and specifically gun for the toxic jerk and face camp the hell out of them.
You wanted my attention jerk survivor, you got it 😈
-
Plus what would you do with the people while disconnected?
If it's a killer, do the survivors just get X amount of time to freely do whatever they want? Does the game grind to a halt and everyone just sits there hoping the killer shows back up (and does the game just start back up so hope you're ready as soon as they reconnect, especially if you were in the middle of running away)?
If it's the survivor, do they just disappear? What if it's in the middle of a chase and now they get away for free (either because they had bad luck with a connection or decided to do their own quick disconnect/reconnect)? If they don't disappear, what happens to them during the struggle phase on the hook or when the person gets unhooked?
-
I want to quit playing but I'm stuck in this Forced Labor Camp where they force me to play DBD for 20 hours a day! :'(
-
The perfect killer is obvious and that you failed to put them in is a travesty.
Clearly The Night Man should be the killer. He's got the troll toll in order to get your survivors hole!
-
As a survivor, always Kindred. The amount of information I get from it informs basically everything I do once survivors start getting caught and I won't play without it.
There are a few I really like to have on like Self Care (BOOOO! HISSSSSSS!!!!) but Kindred is the only one that I won't play a character unless I have it unlocked.
As a killer, there are none that I HAVE to have but I always prefer to have Surveillance, Overcharge (the doctor one where it makes one super hard skill check, I think it was called OC), and the one that causes the gens to be blocked when you hook someone for 16 secs or so.
With how many votes in here for Spine Chill I see, I may have to toss that on someone and try it out.

Either that or tunneled even harder :D

Did they dodge your swings a lot?
The only reference I've ever heard to something like that is sports where you "break their ankles" (basically deke them out so badly that they fall over)

Otherwise I have no idea :D
-
A person throwing on some gauze and being healed from having a giant hook jammed through their shoulder (multiple times pending at what point it is in the game) is also kind of shady logic too.
Video games don't always obey real life rules.
-
If it makes you feel better, I'm pretty sure I have a magnet connecting me and the killer. If I lose sight of the killer, whatever direction I decide to go will bring me right back to them.
-
There is definitely a learning curve to this game and the wonky matchmaking system doesn't help
Some of it will just be trial and error as you figure out what works (and just as important, what doesn't work), some of it will be things you learn from watching your opponents (I've become a much better survivor because I play killer a lot and I try to learn tricks that my opponents play on me), and some you'll learn looking into the game with things like wikis, this forum, or YouTube videos.
It's a fun game if you can get past some of the more frustrating bumps in the road
-
I see survivors complaining about Self Care FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR more than Killers. There doesn't seem to be any need to nerf Self Care at all.
I can't speak for everyone as this is anecdotal but it's very rare that I need Self Care more than three times in a match (if I do, it's usually because the killer at that point is toying with the group or maybe just farming).
-
On Xbox at least, I have seen every DLC on sale at some point (I started playing in Feb for reference so that's when I watched for it).
-
Whether you disconnect because you rage quit, had an actual emergency and HAD to go, or your internet is janky means nothing to the four people whose game you just ruined.
