Unless there was an update recently that I'm unaware of, Reverse Bear Traps with timers that started cannot be escaped with. They will instantly kill the Survivor. However if the timer hasn't started, say the Pig placed the traps on Survivors after the exit gate was powered, then yes they can leave. Due to the fact that there isn't a trigger for the timer to begin.
Reading this post made me want to play the Pig so I did at Rank 1. Mind you, I only used her 3 unique perks and the Survivors were kinda potato. I got a 4k, but only at Ruthless status. I was unable to use Crouch effectively (I don't play her often) to ever get an ambush hit off and the mind game was minimal and hard to pull off (location was Coldwin Farm). Traps were surprisingly effective this time since Survivor's weren't getting them off immediately after the first box. However something to note is that I don't put traps on people until they have to repair 3 more generators. To me, it's a lot easier to hunt and kill people when the area they have to effectively work in is smaller and smaller.
Had I gone against a better group of Survivors and had I not been so lucky, I would've definitely lost. I don't even think I'd scrape by with a 1k without camping at the end. Her add-ons are fantastic, I would concur that the base kit does need some form of a buff. Especially the crouching and ambush. I can't get points off ambush dash unless it's mid chase and I get lucky depending on the area or the Survivor is a potato/not running spine chill and they somehow let me strike them even after hearing that ridiculously long roar.
I honestly didn't know that the timers didn't just start as soon as you got unhooked so that very well could be the case :D
-
My biggest complain is that the survivors can leave with a trap still sitting on their head
I kind of get why that is allowed (a killer could just not put it on until the tail end and essentially end the game unless the survivor got lucky and found the release right away) but it seems awfully strange that the survivor can just kind of up and leave with a ticking time bomb sitting on their head. It's great that you got away from the killer but you basically only got away to have your head snapped off in a few minutes now anyway because the key to it is the place you just left...

Which Self care also combines wonderfully with a number of other perks. Botany knowledge, not only makes self caring faster but also makes healing team mates faster. Resilience [the perk i think you are talking about] being another, since you can always heal to 99%, to still keep that gen speed boost. Than heal up to full when in danger. Which resilience is not just good for gens but healing yourself or others while injured. Self care on it own might not be all that great but it combines so well with many different perks, which is when it becomes amazing. You can legit become the team healer, if you wanted to.
Yeah, Resilience is the one I was talking about. One of these days I'll figure out the name of perks :D
-
I use it because as a solo, it's too unreliable to hope that someone will actually help me. I get killed way too often without it because someone will unhook me and instantly abandon me.
I've also started to combine it with that one perk that gives you extra speed in fixing and whatnot if injured, which is nice.
If there is a teammate near to heal me, I'll go to them and have them heal me but I never want to be in a position where I have no way to heal because my team is being a bunch of dinks.
-
I said it in another thread but these things get buried so quickly that I'm just gonna repeat it...
The issue is there are two kinds of SWF groups
- The group of friends who want to play together
- The SWAT Team (SWF Team 6 is a fun name for it too)
Group 1 is great to play with. They're fun; they get to have a good time with their friends while I as the killer get to go through my normal Killer Duties and stab people
Group 2 is the problem. While this may be anecdotal evidence, I have found that the SWAT Team is usually not only damn impossible to beat since they are in constant communication with each other but they're always the biggest toxic ######### to play again. If there is a cheap tactic, they'll use it and if they get any chance at all to mock the killer, they will 1000% take it.
The biggest issue that Group 2 causes though is that these are the groups killers remember and these are the groups that make killers quit the game because they're not only frustrating to play from a game-play standpoint, they always seem to make sure to rub it in your face and make the experience as awful as humanly possible.
The problem is that I don't know how you could solve Group 2 without directly hurting Group 1. If Group 1 starts getting hammered and frustrated by nerfs, they're gonna quit and now you just lost four players from your player pool. If you just ignore Group 2 though, Killers are eventually just going to say "F*#$ this S$1* I'm out" and now no one has anyone to play against as your Killer pool Yeets out.
I do not envy the position that the DBD team is in here
-
Ooooooooooooooooh
Yup, now that I Google Rancor, I recognize that as one of their perks. I guess I didn't read it close enough (and I don't have Spirit so I've never used it).
Thanks!
-
I have found that really any game where you are in direct competition with another individual, people turn into clowns and jerks.
-
I have the cell point thingys for a new killer but I'm waiting for the next Archive thingy to show up before I decide who to get. I was super bummed that I couldn't get all the challenges done last time because I didn't own Spirit :(

So I was seeing my connection to the killer? This shouldn't be the case with dedicatd servers though, so I'm not so sure. It definitely used to be the case, when the killer was hosting.
I honestly don't know. My assumption is that it represents your connection to the killer (or the killer to the dedicated server, which represents how good your connection will feel with the killer). But I'm making assumptions based on anecdotal evidence since when that bar is green or yellow, I've never had problems with the killer where if it was bouncing around in red, the killer would teleport around like Nightcrawler all game.

Just checked. I only see my own ping, not the other 3 survivors and not the killer. I know my ping is good, I wanna check everyone else.
To my knowledge (and I'm assuming here), if you're a survivor, you see the killers ping in the bottom right so you know your connection with them is good.
If you're the killer, you can see everyone's ping (it's next to their names instead).
Sorry if I got your hopes up, I should have been clearer in my first post
-
@FlintBeastgood said:
Colours are amibiguous. Gimme actual numbers for ping.
Again, this is console but if you scroll over the colored bar, it will tell you what their ping is (in number form)

Maybe this is a console thing but I've always been able to see the survivors and the killers ping (little bar to the right of their name that is either Green, Yellow, or Red pending their ping).

No but I imagined there was a way they could actually look into it.
That was always my assumption too.
Why even bother to have a report system after the game if you need video proof to demonstrate that they were doing something reportable? I can't imagine that they are completely blind and have now way to look at any kind of game logs or some kind of information/data from the game that could collaborate your reporting...
-
There is 100% killers who camp no matter the situation but I also agree that there are plenty of times where I've gotten the "OMG STOP CAMPING NOOB GIT GUD!!!!1!1" messages when every time I hooked someone, I'd get about 10 steps away before they were unhooked.
I do my best to not camp (or tunnel) but I'm also not going to just turn a blind eye to survivors doing incredibly stupid tactics like unhooking when I'm standing right there...

So basically you use mori when you have a suspicion that they're swf.
Nothing new here.. Not like it's some amazingly skilled strategy.
Every braindead killer does this cause they still want to use the OP moris but don't want to waste it on solo queued survivors that are already at a disadvantage.
Well I'm glad to know I'm at least as smart as a braindead killer! :D

I always get a match cancelled if it was a SWF team and I correctly guessed it by bringing ebony mori. I wish If you brought Mori but opted not to use then you could keep it. I’m sure people might find that OP, but I would feel a lil better as killer if I had some reassurance for when I’m suddenly against a cheating SWF team (this game wasn’t created with coms in mind). 🤷🏻
That's a fair point. I only just started doing this (I've hit lvl 50 with a few killers so I'm using up all my offerings before prestiging) so maybe I've just gotten lucky or maybe the SWAT SWF Teams I've played have just been cocky enough to not care.

Sometimes when SWFs see that hidden offering, they will completely throw the game just to try to not let you use it. I've had multiple wins I didn't deserve in the least just from everyone trying to bodyblock and/or flashlight for someone who has been hooked at some point, or constantly saboing hooks to prevent that first hook.
Then they get really confused in post game chat when I never actually use the mori, not realizing their playstyle did more harm to their group than actually using the mori would have :)
Ha! Nice :D
-
I've had some utter dominating matches as killer and I don't think I've EVER had a game where zero gens were done.
I've taken them out very quickly where only one got done but never 0 gens. I'm honestly not sure how you could possibly not get at least one gen done short of basically one guy getting hooked and everybody rushing to unhook them but instead land directly on your weapon.

If it's clear that they're the designated clicky clicky teabag "look at me" survivor, then I WILL tunnel them. I will give them the attention they so desperately crave and I WILL catch them. I guarantee there's only a very small handful of survivors that would actually loop me for an extended period of time to the point their team gets gens done. Other than that, I'll give them "the treatment" and wait for their salty ass private message after the match is over.
Yeah, I always found the "look at me" survivors going on to complain that I tunneled them as funny. Opening and closing lockers, jumping up and down over the windows, teabagging when I was chasing someone else; etc etc
You wanted my attention brah, you can't now complain when I give you the attention
-
So maybe I'm the dumb one here (or maybe it works differently on not-Xbox).
How was the killer supposed to know going in that you guys were planning on just messing around and didn't actually want to play the game?
Everybody dressing the same means nothing, I see that all the time (especially against SWF groups). You guys having no items also means nothing as not everyone brings items with them.
I suppose had you messaged them or contacted them in some way to tell them you wanted to just mess around and are they cool with it, you would have a right to be mad that they ruined the fun but all I see is a foursome that wanted to play not-Dead by Daylight while the killer wanted to play Dead by Daylight...
-
I won't even play as a survivor unless I have Kindred unlocked. I feel absolutely useless and defenseless without the information it provides me (especially if you get yourself a campin killer).
Since I play solo, it is basically a must at this point. I would love for it to become a Base Kit item as the way to bridge the gap between solo and SWF (since SWF don't need it as they can talk where this at least puts Solo on relatively even ground information-wise but then it burns a perk spot). I don't know if that will ever happen but it would be nice...
-
The only downfall would be some of the difficult places for the short killers like Freddy (corn field specifically) would be downright impossible if you were some tiny little killer runnin around :D

@Schmierbach said:
I agree either it's a 0k or a 4k. Rarely do I have a match where I can sit down and say it was truly a good game. It's either a stomp or a bully fest for killers.
I do get good matches, it's just rare.
This is how I'm starting to feel.
I've only been playing a month but already it's getting into a ho-hum boring repetition where either I run into a SWAT Team who run circles around me using every exploit in the book (this team I just played was four people with flashlights, looped every chase, and had the gens done in mere minutes and of course, they're a bunch of ######### about it with the clicking of the flashlights and teabagging at the end game) or I absolutely dominate the team because I'm playing against four toddlers who somehow managed to get the game running.
There just isn't a lot of "Wow, what a great game" and the infrequency of those are really making the shine wear off of this game. I have enough Auric Cell thingys to get the next rift without having to pay but it very well could be my last one if I or this game doesn't figure out how to respark competition.
EDIT: Two months I guess now that I look. I joined this forum about a week after I started playing, which was Feb 8th
-
I played the beta and it did nothing to cause me to desire buying the game.
Being the Mastermind was painfully boring and being the survivors was...well...also really boring :D
Maybe if I gave it more of a chance I'd like it but I'm not going to pay $60 for that chance.
-
I play both but I lean killer (60/40 split I'd say)
I enjoy being a survivor but I keep finding I'm more often killed because my team is incompetent rather than because I did something well or poorly. I generally lean killer just because then it is all on me to win or lose the match and no gamble that the team I'm going to get stuck with somehow has never played the game in their life despite being a high rank...
I enjoy playing both pretty equally if it were a question asked in a vacuum
-
I try to play chill (no camping, no tunneling, etc) but that's more for my own mental health.
I found that the more try-harder I got, the angrier I got when things weren't going my way. I also find it a lot more fun to spread my slashing around and not do cheap tactics to get the 4K (unless the survivors are being jerks, in which case, I still will try not to tunnel/camp unless tactically it does make sense like at the end game but if the survivors aren't being jerks, I still don't camp even when strategically it is the best play)
I've gotten very angry at this game before (earlier today, I got stupid frustrated at a group) and I don't like getting like that. So for myself, I sit back, I relax, and I try not to let anything get to me in the game
-
Bah! You can't tell me what to do! In fact, I bet you're just trying to get me to NOT do that so that you win. I'm onto your game killer!!!
*Tippy gets stabbed immediately going after the generator*
-
...I like it a lot
Mashing the button is boring. A skill check isn't a lot of game play but it is at least SOMETHING for us to do (especially if it's a Facecamper since I don't want to just quit and screw over my team out of precious time) and would probably be a lot nicer on my thumb :D
-
I just play as normal. Unless tactically it makes sense to camp, in which case I will face camp the hell out of them (normally even when it's smart to camp, I still try to just proxy camp and roam around).
Then of course if I get messages, I only ever send a "Thumbs Up" back. I don't know if people don't know how to react to that or what but I have found for some reason, toxic jerks don't respond back to it.
-
ASHY SLASHY!!!!
Although I don't think I use any Ash perks, even on Ash. The only one I found somewhat useful is Flippity Flop but I stopped using it after I got hooked anyway when he slugged me, I fully recovered (up to the point where you need another player), and then got hooked anyway because 50% is not enough wiggle in many places.

His stalk is perfectly fine as it is (minus the stak bugs atm).
Here, a tactic I never see anyone using is exposing someone you have no intention of approaching right away to get them off of a gen for a while (works even better with Ruin active), and also to make others feel safer because they think they aren't targetted, when you secretly are doing just that. And also 99ing an injured survivor you have every intention of leaving alone for now - so when they heal they are oneshot regardless next time you find them.
Also, stalking through gaps in the walls, like on Autohaven, Macmillan or Coldwind. That makes approaching survivors easier because they probably won't see you stalking them. Then pop around the corner and expose and down them
I also did this a lot in that game (so the far stalking and then the 99% stalking). I know some of those survivors on the gens saw me but as long as I just stood off and starred at them like the weird pervert when the high school team is swimming at the local public pool, they almost always just left me there and didn't break my stalking. Get it up to 99% then I'd wander after them.
They'd usually break my stalking once I actually went after them but that investment would likely come in handy later down the road if it came down to it.

think thats more to do with dedicated servers my issue is theres not that much of an reward for stalking as like you said most of the time its pointless. i just thought those changes that i mentioned would give it more of an incentive to actually stalk as it rewards you for getting the stalk off.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1180042#Comment_1180042
let me know how it goes :)
That went considerably better
Granted, the group I was up against weren't great so I probably could have done this without the stalk (I only dropped one of them with the stalk as usually they were running around injured instead of healing themselves) but I was building my stalk meter up a lot more and there were situations where I could have used it but chose not to (since they were running around injured, no need).
I'll be curious to see if I run into a better group of survivors if it would stay this effective but as of now at least, I see no reason why those tactics wouldn't work on a better team.

Hatch requires the number of generators completed to be more than the number of survivors alive, or only one survivor alive, before it even spawns.
At that point, though, it's just luck finding it as you can't use sound to locate it. I've come across it plenty of times while it's closed, but there's other times where it's nowhere to be found (forgetting to check one place, or missing it entirely)
...huh, you learn something new every day.
I assumed there was some kind of criteria for it spawning since I never see it at the beginning of the game but it's neat to actually find out what the criteria is.
-
Those are pretty much my only reasons as well. Namely #2.
I try not to tunnel if at all possible but if my hand if either forced because it's end game and I don't have the luxury to be picky, sorry champ, I'm taking you down. If they're being an jerkface, I also may consider tunneling them pending how the game is going.

Killers often slug survivors to force other survivors to come pick them up, and thus not be on generators, that's kind of the point.
And as has been said already, run unbreakable if you want the option to pick yourself up.
I get why it's done. This is more for the end game when the killer slugs someone and just leaves them to die and wastes four minutes of their life instead of just finishing the match.
But I suppose toxic jerks are going to toxic jerk. It might just be a "sorry champ, go watch Youtube for four minutes or something" situation though if they can't or won't figure out a way to make it so that you can still slug if it's a tactical thing versus just being an ######### thing...
-
Honestly, I'm on Team "Let the survivors pick themselves up" (without needing those specific perks that let you do this).
Slugging a survivor should always carry that risk for the killer. You put someone down and don't hook them, you risk that survivor being able to pick themselves up if they are able to successfully hide from you.
-
A reconnect option would be freakin wonderful.
I don't know if it's a possibility (I don't see why there wouldn't be a way to let it happen but I'm not a developer so I don't want to assume) but it would be nice even when there isn't a global pandemic overloading the internet...
-
It sucks but if people are going to be jerks and ditch, there's not a lot you can do about it.
Let's say you dump struggling. Now all they'll do is try to get off the hook to get to the 2nd stage right away and as soon as they're saved, sit there and let the killer take them out again or actively seek out the killer to get them to take them out.
Which I suppose this will at least get the killer extra points but it doesn't really solve the problem for the survivors who are getting screwed out of a teammate because someone is throwing a fit and quitting.
-
I'm terrible! I need all the help I can get :'(

To be fair as a killer main this scares the living hell out of us too. We usually only get the hit because you ran right into us scaring the living hell out of us and we hit M1 instinctively.
I play killer more often than survivor (probably a 60/40 split) and that is also true. I've had plenty of times where a survivor jumped onto my knife and confused the hell out of me where they came from :D

Funny, because the website and in game tutorial say your objective as a killer is to kill the survivors.
That's all well and good that the tutorial and website say that but whether the developers meant to or not, toying with your prey scores you a lot more bloodpoints, gives you better rankings to your emblems, and ups your ranking in the game.
Maybe the devs literally just want you to kill the survivors and be done but what the game rewards you for is very different than what they state.

aye the hit and run tactic is very popular with GF atm but i do like the stalk but like you said its bit meh to use just thought that with those changes it gives more vaule to stalk the main issue with the other person is the distance he stalks he has to predict your movements when you get exposed which could lead to him losing you and all that stalk wasted but will give it a go and see what its like.
What seemed like the biggest risk for that tactic is the time burned if it fails.
If you get the stalk and the down, you've saved some time (or a LOT of time if the survivor you took down is good at dodging chases) but if you don't get the hit, that's a lot of time you've now kind of thrown away with nothing to show for it.
I'll be curious to see how well it goes when I actually try it out.
-
I've loved using Ghost Face but I am absolutely awful with Stalk. The GF I just played though was really good and I think I'm going to just copy what he did.
Generally, he would just stalk from farther away (ideally on like...a hill or something high up). I assume there is a range of some kind but he was able to be pretty far away it seemed (relatively) and still hit us with the stalk.
I generally try to get close before I stalk but survivors rarely let me (since you know...I'm close enough to be relatively easy to see) so his tactic of getting high up, getting you hit by exposed, AND THEN chasing you seemed to work really really well. I actually rarely even bother with stalk with my technique because like you said, I can usually get the hit without the stalk (or if I'm really lucky, get the interrupt) but I'm going to try that opponents technique and see how well that works.

My one saving grace is that I'm usually the first person biting the dust because of my screw-ups so it's not likely anyone but the killer saw it :D
-
It's always been my understanding that killing as the killer is kind of a by-product of what your ACTUAL objective is...
The Entity wants FEAR
Just grabbing the survivors and killing them doesn't feed The Entity fear. The person is dead, they are no longer a resource for fear, they're just dead now. But chasing after them, destroying the generators (the only way for the survivors to escape and therefore scaring them that they can't), bleeding survivors with hits, etc; THAT is what The Entity wants. Once the survivor is at maximum fear, THAT'S when you finish them off.
Basically as the killer, you're supposed to toy with your prey before you finally just put them down for good
