While we dont care about killers qqing about dead hard and boons and getting hate mails telling us to get git good , you need a controllable perk to win. Run the clown perk that lets you know if survivors are by dull totems or know the map by heart like some killers do to know where totems are.
I know where totems are. I've played this game for FAR too many hours than is probably reasonably healthy
But I am one player. I cannot be in five places at once. Even if I know exactly where the blessed totem is, if it's on the dead side of the map where no undone generators are, I can go cleanse it and let everyone get free shots at the generators only to have one of them wander back there eventually and just relight it anyway. Juggling as a M1 killer is a dead strategy and juggling as a M1 killer is essentially the only way to win against good players (and if they're bad players, I'm not going to need NOED as I'll take them out before we get to the EGC).
Knowing where the totems are also doesn't fix the DH "hit validation" junk where I am constantly hitting people but having the game tell me JK! But hey, if they're exposed at the EGC, they can't DH themselves out of this one.
I play survivor and killer relatively equally and almost exclusively solo survivor so I get how much it sucks that I cleanse four totems only to be taken out because of NOED but this is the state of being a killer in this game. Don't hate The Playa, Hate the Game.
-
I just put NOED on Pinhead and I think I might start doing NOED on all M1 killers from here on out
It was generally something I've avoided as I've found that against good SWF teams, it usually didn't matter if I had NOED as good teams coordinating were doing bones.
With that said though, after yet another game of "Hit Validation" telling me to get bent as survivors have no fear of making any mistakes with DH and with the heavy use of Boon Totems so you can't even attempt to juggle survivors to keep pressure on them, using a M1 killer has turned from a uphill struggle to a downright impossible slog.
Survivors can cry a river at me all they want, I couldn't care less getting your "NOED BABY KILLER!!!!" messages.

Can’t recall if it was just a rumor but I’m pretty sure daily rituals are given based on queue times. If killer queue times are high you’ll more likely get a survivor daily. Can’t confirm or if it’s just old news.
I can't imagine that's the case since the daily rituals are always given at the same time (for me, 7pm, which is prime killer time and when survivor queues become super slow). If it were based on that, I'd always get killer rituals as survivor would never be the quicker queue at 7pm here.
OT: I actually kind of like that the Daily Rituals give you whatever it wants. I feel like it gives me a reason to branch out and play certain roles or killers that I might not as much as a nice change of pace. I get that it would be irksome if you refused to play one side I suppose but as someone who is pretty much a 50/50 player, I like it.
-
The problem I've found is a lot of times, I don't have the context or knowledge needed to know what is going on. Sure, sometimes the survivor is being blatant in their sandbagging where they have me chase them somewhere and they point to their fellow survivor but even then, I have no idea what these two have done all game. Did the pointer do all the work while the hider literally just hid all game and the pointer is irked? Did the hider do all the work all game and the pointer deserves to die? Are they both just wasting my damn time?
I used to judge and let one go but I found too many times that I just made the wrong call when we get to the score screen and see the one I murdered did all the work while the one I let go didn't. So generally, kill them all and let The Entity sort it out unless I have reason to believe one is "innocent".
-
As others have stated, unfortunately there's not a whole lot you can do about it. Let's say you get rid of them being able to suicide on hooks, then what?
If the survivor insists on leaving, they will either seek out the killer, just go AFK (so they're gone for you anyway), or worst case scenario maliciously go after their fellow survivors (fail skill checks, slam pallets, sandbag people, etc).
It sucks when you get some selfish jerk like that but selfish jerks are gonna selfish jerk so *shrug*
-
One of these days I'll wise up and realize that the stress that BHVR keeps adding to the killer role just isn't worth the few games where the game is actually a lot of fun.
With the DH Hit Validation BS, that day might come sooner rather than later but I'm really dum so we'll see...

I have other way. Whenever I get validated twice, I just stop playing, let everyone escape and watch second monitor meanwhile.
I have <25 ms ping, so it's really not my fault this happens, so why should I be bothered to deal with it?
That's...not a bad idea
I feel myself getting actively tilted and frustrated dealing with this BS and obviously if it happens a few times, it'll just keep happening in that game. Just call it getting BHVR'ed and go chill in the corner and watch funny cat videos or whatever it is these kids do today on The Internet Dot Com
-
I'm about ready to with this Dead Hard Hit Validation BS
Being a killer is frustrating enough with all the crap we have to deal with against good survivors. The Pallet Hit Validation is still super annoying but I can at least somewhat guesstimate when that is going to happen (since...you know...a pallet has to be involved) but now at any point in the GD game, I can get a LOL JK hit where the game tells me I hit someone and then pulls the rug out from under me and tells me never mind.
Unfortunately too, I can't imagine they're going to roll back this change given that they didn't roll back the Pallet Hit Validation stuff either. So a slight hiatus could very well become a permanent one as right now, playing killer is gonna give me a Goddamn aneurysm as my body kills itself in frustration.
-
@GillyBeannn said:
I do agree with you but I guess from the killer's perspective, it's frustrating when on your end, it tells you you hit them but then the server says you didn't. The problem is that bhvr hasn't fixed that problem where if your hit doesn't validate, why are the survivors still screaming from the supposed hit. It basically a big F you to the killer, and that's something that has to go so the killer doesn't get to illusion that they were supposed to hit them.
Overall, I am glad for this change so that the perk works as intended, same with the pallet stuns, but I also play killer so it's very disheartening when my game tells me I hit someone but it actually didn't.
This. All of this. This entire post.
It's the same thing I said with Pallet Hit Validation; I don't mind if I did actually miss, that's fair. But the game shouldn't be telling me that I did hit them only for it to go LOL JK. In the right (wrong?) hands, DH can be a moral destroyer for the killers. Having someone DH and give me a LOL JK into a Pallet Stun that also gives me a LOL JK is controller smashingly frustrating.
-
I've found there have been a number of totems that are cleansable but they're in such a tight space that it takes a good ten seconds of wiggling back and forth just to finally get to the right spot to cleanse it.
Just another in a long line of "Did nobody bother to test any of this stuff?" update

In a shocking twist no one could have possibly seen coming, Game #1 as a killer, Game #1 where FIVE ######### Dead Hard hits did the "Survivor yells and you bloody them and they scream and they go down but LOL JUST KIDDING LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL YOU IDIOT THOUGHT YOU ACTUALLY DOWNED THEM!?!?!?! These survivors were also WELL aware of this as they just spent a lot of the game just toying with me as the killer because they knew they didn't have to be afraid of mistiming a Dead Hard.
I just don't get how BHVR can be so Goddamn bad at this...

It depends
I've slugged someone because I saw someone else and decided to gamble and go after them instead. I've slugged someone because they were unhooked in my face and I'm feeling like a nice guy without letting them get away with a bad play.
Some killers slug because they REALLY want a 4K (I don't because I find that terribly boring but you do you killers). Some killers slug because they're ######### and want to waste four minutes of your time :D
There's probably a few other reasons I'm not thinking of but the context is important to answer what the point of slugging is...

I'll nutshell it. I'm no means a hacker or anything either.
But, you can overload a system with information that causes it shut down permanently. This is the BARE BONES minimum explanation, but some programs exchange information constantly to allow it to run effectively. People can take this and overdrive it to the extreme.
Now, someone who actually studies computers probably got an aneurysm from my explanation and I apologize, but this is stuff I vaguely remember from high-school
It's not impossible in the sense that it can't be done but it seems highly unlikely to me. I could see that kind of thing crashing your game as the game gets overloaded but to do something like that to fry the CPU on the console would take at least a little bit of time as everything overheats.
Right now we have one thread that was completely and utterly derailed by moronic console v PC fanboys and...that's all the proof we have that this is happening.
If console players want to be overly cautious about this and kill crossplay for the time being, I can't really fault or criticize them for that decision. This just seems like a ton of fear mongering with no actual proof or information aside from the one person claiming their PS4 was toasted by a hacker on PC.

I don't know what a hacker could possibly do that would cause your console to brick and the only sources talking about this are people who knows a guy who knows a guy who...

Honestly, it wouldn't shock me if it was nerfed when it gets reinstated. I got to use it for all of one match as a survivor and it felt grossly unfair with how strong it was.
I never dealt with it as killer since it got pulled so quickly but I can't imagine the killer was happy with that match and that was on a bigger map. I can't imagine the damn nightmare it would be on The Game or Midwich...

My opinion has gone from "A'ight" to "This kind of sucks"
No wonder no one is bothering using the pedals.

Oh. Then I'd do what @FFirebrandd recommended and put in a Bug Report (or see if someone else did already)

I haven't noticed anything of that nature but it's not impossible that I just haven't ran into this particular situation since I imagine most killers don't stop midchase to smash a pumpkin
-
You got Karma'ed for t bagging :D
With it being a one off (or at least that's all you showed), it could have been a bug or lag or cheating or a one off glitch or a number of things. I have noticed nothing strange when kicking pumpkins so far at least.

I'll do it!
Sure, I only stream basically once every three months give or take. And sure, I only have I think five followers. And sure, all five followers are people I know in real life because the only time I stream is when they want to see something specific in a game I'm playing.
...
I forgot where I was going with this

While it is an incredibly rare situation, I imagine they want survivors to basically be able to get in each others way and to not assist other survivors in body blocking a killer.
For getting in each others way, a match I had a few games ago is a perfect example. It was against Leatherface with 3 gens left. I kind of saw this coming too but there were three of us on the killer shack gen trying to finish it off and exactly what I expected to happen ended up happening. When LF wandered in, two of us went to the doorway and we bodyblocked each other in and setup LF for an easy double chainsaw. Oopsy...
For assisting others in bodyblocking the killer, I'm thinking of something like Haddonfield with some of those alleys where only one person can fit. If I was a survivor trying to protect my fellow survivor, right now I have to wait for the injured person to go in the alley first so that I can follow them and block the killer from going after them. If there were no collision, I could just stay in the alley far away and let the injured person come through me and get in the way of the killer then. It's not a huge difference but in this game, those few seconds that the killer loses because the injured person could just phase through me might be the difference between getting a hook and getting nothing.
-
Thanks Trevor!
-
Unfortunately, yeah, it kind of has (at least for me).
I've been stuck in the low MMR ranks for too long and I've stopped worrying about making the Suicide Plays to try to save someone. While those are far more fun and entertaining, even if I'm likely just throwing my life away for nothing, I need to get out of these damn low MMR ranks before I burn the game to the ground in frustration.
I'm still willing to run risks to help a teammate but if it's the EGC and I need to choose saving myself or trying to save someone else, they're unfortunately on their own. BHVR has determined that the only thing that matters is that I escape or else they believe I am a potato and I'm damn sick of getting put in the pot with a bunch of damn potatoes...
Maybe once I'm out of this low level MMR Hell I can go back to the fun and carefree Tippy but at least for the time being, I'm doing what I have to in order to climb out of these depths.
-
Was anything released about it? All I saw was a teaser trailer thing on their Twitter Machine, which tells us nothing except there is probably a pumpkin involved and the dates...
-
I'm sure BHVR is gonna love these based on the handful already here :D
But I love this meme after someone showed it to me and therefore everyone now gets to love it!
It's funny cause it's true!
-
I said it on Saturday with the benefit of the doubt that it was the weekend and a Holiday. You'd still think SOMEONE would be paying attention to the flustercuck that was happening on the forum due to it but sure, maybe no one is paying attention or no one who was high enough in the company was paying attention.
At this point, it is getting harder and harder to blame people for believing it. It would take BHVR five seconds to go "Not True" and everyone can move on. But they're not. Are they not because they don't think it's a big deal to dispel the rumor or are they not because it is true but they are kind of hoping that radio silence will make people just kind of forget about it...
EDIT: It's also spreading around in not-DBD forums too. There are other forums with posts about it and I had someone in my Discord pop up a mocking post about how DBD is doing NFT ######### (someone who doesn't play DBD at all).
-
Ultimately I think it depends on if BHVR is right and they've properly balanced the Boon Totems.
If they're wrong, you'll almost certainly see way more camping/slugging/tunneling as Killers may feel like they have no chance to do anything without it. If they're right, it'll probably just be the normal level where the people who do that anyway will keep doing it and killers who do not do it will continue to not do it.
-
Personally I have not noticed a huge wave of hackers but I'm not going to sit here and deny that there have been a LOT of rumblings on The Forums about it and this seems like it should be a (relatively) easy fix. But instead of having a proper recording system in game that would be able to automatically catch things that shouldn't be happening (I can't imagine the survivor being able to run through the map like The Flash is normal), they still rely on one of the most archaic systems known to man.
Not only the most archaic system known to man but an archaic system that I'm guessing 90% of the God damn player base doesn't realize they have to do (submit video evidence with their report). The only reason anyone would possibly know that is if they come to the forums to see because it is either not in the game period or if it is in the game, it's so buried or out of the way that no one seems to realize it exists.
-
So you want "Overcharge" to be base kit (I suppose that also gives you a 5% loss of progress so not quite base kit Overcharge)?
Honestly, my preference would be the one that killers have been crying out for since...basically forever. Make it so that survivors have to work on the gen for a solid 1-2 seconds before the regression stops. All a base Overcharge does is punish weaker/newer players so I'd much rather have something that affects everyone instead of just the lower group survivors.
-
I've gotten salty messages from survivors for not trying to save them from a facecamping basement bubba...
Like...brah...you're dead. Make your peace because you're about to meet The Entity cause no one is going to be able to save you from that...
-
Imagine how insanely OP Sprint Burst would be if you could just choose to activate it at any point. Basically a Dead Hard you can use at any time (injured or no) but allows you to get distance instead of just a few frames of invincibility...

So what's more fun to you?
Playing a boring game and surviving with 10k BP. Or playing a fun game with the chance that you will die and still score 20k BP?
Why are you trying to game your MMR? If you just play, game after game as it comes, some you die, some you escape, your MMR will be working as it should in the background putting you where you should be, to give you the best chance to survive at least 50% of the time.
If you keep playing your boring games where you guarantee you survive but have no fun. You're going to back yourself into a corner where you'll end up against killers at a higher level than you, that will force you to play more and more cautiously, having less and less fun in the process.
Because most of my games right now I'm getting killed because my team is hot garbage. I can loop the killer for over a minute and see maybe one generator pop. If I'm on the generator, I get to watch with Bond as my teammate runs the killer right to me. With Kindred, I get to hang on the hook and watch one guy self caring in the corner while the other two hide in the bushes as my Stage 1 slowly ticks down to Stage 2. I get teammates who are missing skill checks (with my favorite one where they missed THREE damn skill checks in a row healing me. I finally decided that playing injured was far safer than letting that dude heal me). That is not a fun game to me. If I get killed because the killer does well or I play poorly, cool. GG guys, we'll get them next time. But that's not what is happening and that is frustrating as hell to deal with.
Now some of this is also on me as I am the player who will go for the high risk play to save a teammate. If the killer has NOED, I will go around the map trying to find the lit totem so that we can help them. If the killer is camping, I will do my best to save them and take the trade if that's what it comes down to. If someone is being tunneled and needs help, I will do my best to step in and body block to give them a chance to get away. Because this is way more fun to me to actually play the game rather than playing a game of hide and go seek.
At the level BHVR seems to believe I am at, I have no real chance to actually do anything. But because I can't survive without cheesing the hell out of the game (something that I'm not willing to do), I'm essentially trapped in this Hell that is potato survivor...

The short version of this would have just been "elo hell." But I feel you, fam.
Well what's even worse with it is that I went ahead and tried to play a game to prioritize myself over every one else. I didn't try to save anyone, I avoided the killer as much as possible. I prioritized doing bones with Small Game over generators (because I'll be damned if I'm going to get killed once again because of NOED). I did just enough to make sure the gens were all completed and prioritized getting to the gate and getting the hell out of Dodge ASAP.
I survived the match but had one of the most boring experiences I've ever had as a survivor. All three teammates were killed and I scored the lowest points in the game, even with the 5,000 extra BP I got for surviving that they didn't get for dying.
I have no desire to ever play like that again and if the game is going to try to force my hand to play like that...
-
It sucks. There's not a nice way to put it. It absolutely, positively, sucks.
Solo Queue has the deck stacked against you as it is and with this new system, I need to survive with potato teammates but it is INCREDIBLY difficult to survive with potato teammates. So I keep staying where I'm at where I need to survive IN SPITE of my teammates because this is still a team game. I can do a lot on my own but I can't carry the entire damn team on my back the entire time.
I am consistently outscoring my own team, even when I've died and the hiding potato has survived but in the eyes of the game, I'M the potato. Which puts me with more potatoes that get me killed. Which makes me play with potatoes because the game thinks I'm a potato. Which puts me with more...
Absolutely frustrating and is making me reconsider playing the game period anymore...
-
You know...the more I think about it from my earlier post, the more and more this is just becoming frustrating and unfun and really makes me question whether I want to keep playing
Playing survivor used to be my "I need to get away from the stressful role" setup but now after game after game after game after game after game of just absolutely useless teammates getting me killed, instead of going "Damn, how unfortunate, I guess we'll get them next time" it's "You [Censored for the ears of the innocent] [censored] [censored] [censored] mother [censored] [censored] losers [censored] [censored] help me help you [censored] [censored] [censored] [censored] toothpaste [censored] [censored]"
This went from the relax role when I needed a break to eternal frustration as I am still constantly getting killed by my teammates actions. This used to not be a big deal when I was under the impression that my rank was improving but now...
I guess this is why they say Ignorance is Bliss because I was far happier and perfectly fine with dying when I thought all it was costing me was 5,000 BP...
-
No
-
Is this why I keep getting toddlers who accidentally booted up DBD as my teammates?
I never have any issues with dying (I am the survivor who will go for high risk stuff to save someone else because I don't really care if I die). So it makes sense that I keep getting put with friggin potatoes who do nothing all game. Even though I regularly outscore everyone on my team (even people who survive when I don't), the game thinks I'm a useless potato survivor because I never seem to survive...
Super. Just...super. As if being a solo survivor didn't already suck donkey, now you're telling me that I'm likely going to just be stuck at this level because BHVR somehow believes that surviving is the end all be all to the game.

It's so GD frustrating to go get the box but never be able to solve it because every time you try, you get hit with a damn chain. I wait and dodge a chain, chain spawns after I start. I find a tight area, chain spawns inside of me.
If chain hunt has started, there seems to be nothing you can do about it until Pinhead decides to just teleport to you and end it himself. I don't understand why chains spawn while you are solving the damn BDSM Rubix Cube...

Stretch res is against the rules? Since when?
I wish it was, but i've believed it's not against the rules.
I guess I assumed it was. I don't play PC so I assume you have to do something to the game to let you do it but from The Google, I guess you don't adjust anything. So I may be incorrect.
-
Sounds like they did you a favor by recording the match for you, giving you ample evidence to report them for something that is actually against the rules

That's it
Jerks being jerks, no more, no less

Yeah, that feels like a really badly thought out challenge.
It's the only (survivor) challenge I have left so I just have it always on and will just let it very very very very very slowly happen naturally. But yeah, I think I have 4 done so far in the dozen and a halfish games I've played with it active.
-
Your second to last paragraph is the answer. Every survivor is going to be different so there is no "right" thing to do. Some will want you to farm. Some will want to just play like normal. Some will want you to just mercy kill them and end the game.
Even for myself, it depends on how I'm feeling and what I brought with me. I'm gonna be a salty boi if I just pissed away a purple medkit with an anniversary cake :D
-
I am absolutely dreading it
Now I haven't played PTB as a console player so I'm hoping it's unfounded but Boon Totems just seem like an awful idea all around. For solo queue, this is just another thing that gives the SWFs a big advantage (since they can plan out and talk to one another what their plan is) while half a team of solos might be trying to break the totems while the other half is trying to keep them alive for boons. Just another thing that BHVR threw in where communication can make or break the mechanic while forgetting that their game doesn't have that as a feature...
For killers, especially high rank like myself, it can be hard enough to find and take out survivors quickly enough without adding another objective for me to do (and an objective that I can't even permanently kill off as me snuffing out boons just means the survivor has to take 14 seconds to relight it).
The Plague changes are nice as I really like to play as her so I've got that goin for me I guess...

I sort of disagree.
This was the case, maybe 15 years ago. But companies have realized that a septic community is really bad for business, as it really does drive players away.
Now, a lot of games at least gently enforce a CoC - because once people start copping bans for being poisonous, it sets an example and everyone else starts calming down.
As it stands, the right way to play this game, especially as killer, is just to disable post-game chat. Which is a shame as it really does rob the game of a bit of banter and community.
There are steps BHVR could do to help fix it (or at least alleviate some of it) but BHVR either can't or won't address it so not much you can do as a player unfortunately
