I have also died to the Endgame Countdown due to teammates refusing to leave until they see me safe and sound in the exits with them. I've also died to the Pig's RBT because of this.

My solution (and this also further bridges the gap between solo and SWF) was to have an icon show up on the HUD when a Survivor is close to the hatch (4m?). This wouldn't go as far as SWF telling everyone where the hatch is located, but at least it tells them that they can leave (or tells them to stay until the very last second because the "potatoe" is at the hatch).

This would be good too, however, the problem I had is that they would wait until like 15 seconds to leave and even with Left Behind you don't have time to search the entire map ESPECIALLY with the killer on you.

To be fair, you just answered yourself, solo survivors can also bring maps.

Except that then I can't bring a key, or find a key with Plunderer's (which is what I do when I run LB). You can only have 1 item at a time, and I can't find a key then go look for the hatch, then go back for the key, then take hatch all in a reasonable time frame, especially during EGC, ESPECIALLY if being chase by the killer.

This change really wouldn't help SWF because in order to actually get use out of it EVERYONE would have to run it. Otherwise you run the risk of the guy with LB being the one that's dead. Again, a Rainbow Map is 100 times more effective at finding the hatch in a group because one person could bring a key and another could bring a map, and they can be swapped around.

  • On Xbox it's direct messages. My only option is to only allow friends to message me but then I can't get ANY messages from anyone else and I don't want that.

  • If he hooked the Nancy right after downing her, this game would have been over in 4 minutes. Feng ran off and there was absolutely no way she would both make it back to Dwight/Ash in time to start healing, let alone heal them up in time with Coulro active.

He got greedy for a 4k and paid for it. This is why slugging is not always optimal, because Unbreakable exists. If you slug 3, just take the hook on the third ASAP to keep some pressure in case someone has Unbreakable. He left her, she got up, and that reset his entire snowball. He didn't even catch her again until the gates were powered.

Also, he ate Dwight's DS when it was CLEARLY not 60 seconds then acted surprised. It was about 50 seconds if you check the timestamps. That also really hurt him and was 100% his own fault. If he just waited a bit longer he wouldn't have been DS'd there.

Sorry Otz is a good killer but he made some MAJOR mistakes here and paid for it. He was greedy plain and simple.

Not to mention, he STILL GETS THE 4K. As speed limiter Bubba. Like how much more biased can you get than that. "Oh dear lordy, survivors did 'em gens. So overpowad" C'mon dude. He still won.

  • @Johnble said:

Both sides act like jerks. That's why ignoring messages after a match is really the only solution to the problem. Main issue with this community is the US vs THEM mentality outside of matches and the biases that "mains" carry. I personally don't waste time messaging people anything other than "GG" and leave it at that.

Yea I don't send hate messages as killer either. In fact, if you get a message from me after the game it's usually something silly, or an apology for being a dick to you (again because I was forced to).

Like this Meg brought a key into my game last night. I have a rule that I bring a mori if I see a key. I tunneled her off first hook and mori'd her with 4 gens left. I felt bad but I've been nice in the past with keys and it's come back to bite me. He sent me a message "F this key challenge, thats 10 keys gone now :(". I said "yea sorry, I mori keys. I think the challenge is dumb too. You should just run Plunderers you can get a key 1 in 3 games usually". We had a nice conversation and had I known this group weren't high ranks I probably wouldn't have brought the mori, but better safe than sorry. I felt bad for the guy, but I gotta look out for number 1. He was understanding at least, thanked me for the advice. If I see him again with a key I'll probably not do that again.

  • @DelsKibara said:

I definitely agree with you on that one.

But even if they would do something about it, what exactly would they do? People who abuse others during endgame chat will always do that no matter what you do. Even if you report them and they get their just desserts, they'll still act like an ######### because that's just who they are.

Maybe a stupid solution, but allow the killers to block certain survivors or survivors block certain killers so they cannot see what they say at all during the endgame chat.

And don't be like Discord where "Blocked Messages" can still be seen. Have them be completely invisible. Have the survivor/killer have no cosmetics in the eyes of the person who blocked them and give them a random username so they can't distinguish who it is they blocked so they cannot do anything in the future ingame if they see them again.

But they still have to play against each other, so blocking won't block players who are higher skilled than you. Keeping the matchmaking as stable as it can be after the MMR update (which I hope is insidious and not announced they will start changing to that system)

I'm on Xbox so it's a bit different. I could block these people but it doesn't change the fact it's stressful to get yelled at for doing what you have to do sometimes. It's pretty much every game. I could set my messages to friends only but I don't want to do that because I do get messages from non-friends sometimes (outside of DBD that aren't toxic hatemail).

  • @then4321 said:

Swf and key make this idea a little op. One person dies, one gen left, they can find hatch almost immediately with a quick jog.

SWF can bring a map though, which is 100 times more effective at finding the hatch AND is very useful in other ways. When you play solo though, sometimes you need to find hatch when the gate is already open and you are being chased, but the last survivors won't leave. Then when they finally leave with like 10 seconds on EGC you have no way to actually search the map for the hatch. Additionally if there are 2 survivors left, you have to wait until the other one dies before you can even use your perk, which means the killer could potentially find the hatch first. The whole point of the perk is to help you find hatch. It won't make a difference to SWF because it's easier to find hatch with multiple people OR by using a map, which you can't use if you are solo with a key.

And yes, keys need a rework in general but that's independent of this perk.

  • Object Of Obsession - It's WAY too strong in an SWF.

Save The Best For Last - This perk screams "I suck in a chase and need to be able to machine gun survivors down."

  • @NursesBootie said:

Make it so it's still active when the obsession is dead. That's it.

Or at the very least, you don't lose all your stacks. Then you could use Nemesis or eat a DS and be back to full stacks right away.

  • Not me but a bunch of my friends had issues with the servers.

What's funny is the DC penalty did NOTHING to stop people from DC'ing. Every other game the killer DC'd no joke. And it wasn't like "oh maybe the server booted them" it was a clear and obvious rage quit when they couldn't catch someone or a few gens pop quickly or their totem goes down or they get DS'd with the exit gates open. Killers are such sore losers.

They LITERALLY play this game for a living. They get paid for playing this game every day, while most of us have a daytime job and want to chill killing some people before going to sleep.

You can't pretend everyone to play like True or like Otz, the bar is too high for killer and too low for survivor, you can be braindead, play survivor and still escape most matches (I know people like that).

Just want to make the point that just because you play a game a lot or play it for a living as a streamer does NOT make you good at the game.

Look up DSP or Low Tier God. These guys are absolutely AWFUL at fighting games, yet they ACT like they are good and somehow have a huge following so they can make a living being bad at video games.

  • My standard build is Calm Spirit, Iron Will, Spine Chill, Balanced Landing.

Calm Spirit is low key a great perk. Since you don't disturb crows, that means any time a crow goes off nearby it's either another survivor or the killer. Against stealth killers this is very useful information. Crows also give away your position to good killers, so it's good for stealthing a lot of the time. Also it hard counters Doc and I forking HATE Doc.

Iron Will helps you stealth better, and you can play an entire game injured with far less risk. Against killers like Spirit and Nurse this is IMMENSELY helpful. Against every other killer it lets you mind game certain tiles more effectively.

Spine Chill is anti-stealth killer, and very useful for determining what the killer is focused on. If you are healing and it lights up, they have Nurse's Calling. If you vault a window and they are looking at you through the wall, I'm All Ears. If you are working on a gen, they are probably coming to kick it. If you go for a save they could very well be camping. It gives you a lot of information that can be very useful.

Balanced I've come back around to. I used it before the nerf and didn't like the changes they made, but started using it again and I like it. I still wish they did something with the maps instead, but it's still a good perk for certain tiles. The added silent falls is very nice too, for extra stealthing options.

I don't like using meta perks because 1) it's too easy and 2) I can't do certain tricks I can with these perks. I like to mind game as survivor (and killer) and there is little to no mind game when you use meta perks. I also find most good killers know how to play around them, so using off-meta perks gives me a bit of an edge there.

"just run this one perk forever even if it's not against SM Myers" is lol advice

SM Myers is a meme build, it's fun to play against because it's so different. he can come up at you out of nowhere but has no chase which is the tradeoff for his jumpscare ability. "just run this perk bro" is stupid advice because you don't know what killer you're playing against so it more comes down to how you play. you just need to be super aware at all times, have 2 escape routes in mind because you never know where he's coming from.

Spine Chill is useful against WAY more than a single killer build. It's one of the best perks in the game.

  • It's part of an anti-hacker system. It's so the forums can't be taken down by DDOS attacks.

    @Mandy said:

Yes, we are aware of what's happening and we're in contact with Vanilla in an attempt to resolve it - it seems to have stopped for me now, but had the issue for a few hours earlier.

    I'm still getting it.

  • It is also good for tracking stealth killers.

Since you don't disturb crows that means any time a crow goes off near you it's either another survivor or the killer. If you have a stealth killer and just assume it's always them, they will have a hard time sneaking up on you.

Also not disturbing crows is a great way to avoid detection. I've been called a hacker before when it's like dude, I saw those crows fly away I KNOW you were there.

And yes it's most useful against Doc. You pretty much completely nullify his power. Also good against Clown, Infectious, Iron Maiden, Anxious Gasp, and Iridescent Family Crest.

Lastly you can usually tank a hit for someone that's in a chase and about to go down, and if done right the killer won't even realize what happened.

  • Spine Chill and loop. He is 105% movement speed and can't get bloodlust. You can run from him forever.

SM Myers is easy to beat.

  • I've had this name for 18 years.

  • Calls game bully simulator.

Also asks for Billy to get nerfed.

    Pick one please.

  • No. Probability and risk calculation.

Stop trying to guess exactly what she will do. See what she potentially can do and do what would mitigate each option simultaneously.

  • Ok I found it, yes that's hacks. But I know you can't hack on Xbox at least. PS is apparently way less secure.

After watching the video...its a super clear hacker, lol. The guy wore full Legacy, teleported around as trapper while holding someone that would make Nurse jealous and litterally flew while holding someone (before burrowing underground so they could take a shortcut to the basement).

I'd really like to see this video because I don't believe it possible to hack console, especially not hack it to allow crossplay.

  • There was a bug where you would constantly have a speed boost but they supposedly fixed it. Maybe they didn't COMPLETELY fix it, but I haven't seen it since the fix.

If you have a clip I would report it as a bug. You really can't hack on console (well at least on Xbox). You could on 360 by doing save file editing but AFAIK it's not possible on Xbox One. PS I think it might be possible, IDK, but I doubt anyone would be hacking on consoles in 2020 because MS/Sony can easily detect it and perma-ban the console.

I’ve played against Spirit. I’ve countered a Spirit and won against Spirit. Yes, she can be counterplayed but she has a lack of consistent counterplay and isn’t pleasant to face, it’s unsatisfying. That’s why people DC against her and don’t try because they want to know what the opposing player is doing. Like Huntress for example. You don’t have to guess when she is throwing a hatchet.

^ That isn’t my exact opinion on Spirit but that is what I read a bunch of “Spirit haters” saying.

Knowing how fast the Spirit phases or how long she can phase is debatable. What if she has duration add-ons? Or speed add-ons? She’s not always going to be the same speed and phase for the length of time you think she is going to.

Thinking “creatively” is a fancy way of saying that you’re trying to predict her movements AKA a guess. A guess that is tied into the favor of the Spirit. I can try to predict the Spirit’s movement because I know what most Spirit players think. I used to play as her a lot. But she has a bunch of cues as to your location. You have none on her except soft footsteps.

Although some streamers exaggerate her strength and say she has NO counterplay. It’s pretty annoying to hear that over and over again. To the point where they are just complaining for sake of complaining.

My opinion on Spirit is that she’s in a balanced place and needs no changes but I know how unpleasant she is to face. I don’t mind facing a Spirit, but when I get “outmindgamed” it’s just a big “Darn” moment.

By thinking creatively I'm talking more about making yourself less predictable than trying to predict the Spirit. The thing is "thinking creatively" for most players means slow vaulting the pallet back into her face which super predictable.

Like you don't have to predict "she will do exactly this so I will do this to counter" you have think "she can do this, that, or this other thing, so I could do this which counters all 3 safely, or maybe this which counters 2 and is more risky but then I gain more distance". As long as you make HER mess up she doesn't catch you, and it's very easy to mess up as Spirit. Come out of phase just 8m too far and that's another 15 seconds of chase before she can phase again.

And that's the problem, people try to beat EXACTLY what she is going to do instead of playing the odds in their favor and just do what they can to avoid the things she could POSSIBLY do. There is a massive difference between doing those 2 things. One you are putting all your eggs onto 31 black, the other you just bet red and have better odds but then a lower reward.

  • @Coder said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1109218#Comment_1109218

    Sorry, but BS.

Spirit is poorly designed, it doesn't matter how creative you are (or you think you are).

There's a concept in game design called "agency", which is granting the player the ability to make good and informed decisions.

Imagine playing Super Mario Bros... and one level is a straight line of tiles where, randomly, they might fall if you step on them and you die. No warning, all tiles look the same. You might think it's a matter of creativity, or that if you jump all the time until you reach the end is the best strategy since you reduce the probability of falling, but still it won't prevent you from stepping into the wrong tile and die. And it feels cheap, it doesn't feel like you did anything wrong to be punished that way, or, if you passed the level, It's thay you're smarter than everyone else and they're nubs, it's just bad level design. It's trial an error, guessing and some luck, all things you must avoid in game design.

That's what happens to spirit, you don't have visual or auditory clues of what she's doing, you have to guess based on how spirit play, how you'd play the loop, how you've seen other players play the loop, etc... but you might still guess wrong, no matter how creative or smart you are.

Now I know what you're thinking to yourself "you and oh tofu are just nubs, I'm so more creative and smarter than you guys, git gud" but you'll be wrong, and even if you are smarter than everyone else, it doesn't mean anything, Spirit will still be by textbook definition, a badly designed killer.

    1) I know what agency is, I worked in game dev and game design.

    2) You're just parroting what Scott said, and I'm not saying Scott was wrong but... his complaints aren't exactly about agency, they're about the difficulty of playing against her. They are not the same, she is the type of character you have to really be on point even against an average player. It's like any game with a really strong character, if you don't try your best you probably won't succeed. And most people don't like to try that hard when they play this game, and if they do they get frustrated by it.

    3) If you know how fast she is and how far she can go during phase you will know that her options are limited. Knowing that, and based on the situation there are safe and risky moves you can make to avoid her. People seem to have this idea that she is infallible but she's not. You have to see what she can actually do, then take the approach that you think is best. You can call that a "guess" but it's not as much of a guess as it is calculating risk V rewards.

    4) I never said Oh Tofu is bad, or anyone is bad. I said it takes a specific type of skill which most people lack, regardless of how much they play or how good they are. Again there are pro players that lack this skill that have clear difficulty playing against lesser skilled players that can do this.

    5) Fact is Spirit can be counter played. She just can. I have done it. I've had it done to me, and I might not be the absolute best killer but I am definitely a strong Spirit player. It's not easy but it can be done. Just because you or even Tofu have trouble with this doesn't mean she is broken or has no counter play.

  • I've watched it. He is clearly in the category of "lacking creative thinking".

Just because you play the game a lot, just because you are good at the game, does NOT mean you are a good creative thinker. There are pro gamers that completely lack this skill, the reason they are pro's is because they play a lot and have a lot of experience and practice. But come at them with a new tactic or an off-meta character in a fighter and you will see them struggle.

It is an innate skill that you can do, or you can't. And it's not easy to learn. Impossible for some people honestly.

  • Pffffttt Franklin's Demise.

I bring a mori if I see a key. GLHF

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1107164#Comment_1107164

You can outplay a Spirit if you guess her movements right and that’s why players hate her. You are guessing where she is and trying to throw off her tracking. You don’t know her exact location in a chase like all other killers so when you go down it’s like “Darn, I guessed wrong. Guess I should play better”.

She’s a very unsatisfying killer to lose to. Not that she is OP or broken, just unsatisfying because you made the wrong guess.

Actually if you are guessing you are doing it wrong.

She has limited options. If you know how fast she actually is in phase, and how long she can phase, you can reliably predict what she is going to do and bait her into making the wrong move.

The only reason stuff like the stand still trick works is because people guess instead of looking at what is actually possible. When she does this trick, assume she is both standing there and phasing. Then you can consistently counter play her. I literally ran from a Spirit for 4 gens the other day because I understood that 1) she can't vault during phase, 2) she can't hear me (I had Iron Will), 3) she can't see where I am if I walk so long as I don't walk in the grass patches, 4) she can only come from this side or that side and will appear at X specific time after she starts phasing base on how fast I know her to be. What I would do would be to run in one direction, then walk back in the other direction or away from the loop entirely. I would make it appear as if I ran around the corner of the loop when in actuality I backtracked and then just straight up walked away from the loop. I would also drop pallets early knowing she would have to go around them AND knowing that when she did she wouldn't be able to continue chasing me with phase, so I knew I was safe to keep running for the next loop. Even if she predicted I would drop the pallet, she isn't fast enough to catch up going the long way around.

And I've been on the receiving end as well. I consider myself a strong Spirit player, but a few days ago I had a game on Ward with this Steve that was pretty much doing the same thing I would do, and he was INSANELY difficult to catch. I even had Stridor and he was able to run from me for 5 times longer than any other survivor in the trial. I've almost lost games as Spirit exclusively because of these types of players. They are rare, because majority of survivors just make really stupid decisions against the Spirit, but they exist. It's players like that which prove that Spirit, even good ones, can be outplayed consistently. Really the only reason I was able to catch the Steve was because he eventually ran to a jungle gym with no pallet and I was able to just brute force him down with phase.

People don't like her because outplaying her requires creativity which most people lack, or at least lack the desire to do. No other killer requires you to be creative with your movement and tactics. No other killer requires you to think on the fly and react to the player instead of just following basic patterns. Saying that losing to Spirit is not satisfying is just a cop-out honestly, because it's nothing to do with that at the end of the day. It's that she requires actual thought to outplay and no one wants to admit they don't think during a chase.

  • Billy is just fine how he is.

So is Spirit. I swear anyone that says you can't outplay a Spirit simply has 0 creative thinking skills. You certainly can outplay a Spirit. She is far from broken.

Tell me if you can disprove one point I've made..110 killers are very strict and you'll notice a common theme with the successful ones

Yet all three 110 killers are generally considered top 6 killers in the game SMH. One of them is potentially the BEST killer in the game.

  • @Almo said:

It's changed; apologies if it missed the patch notes.

    Hangman's Trick:

    • Gain notification when sabotage of a Hook starts.
    • While carrying a Survivor, see the aura of any Survivor within [8/12/16] meters of a Hook.

Is that when you and the survivor are both within 16m of the hook, or just any survivor within 16m of any hook?

  • Hangman's Trick.

    Also Mad Grit.

    Also Agi/IG.

    Also slugging.

    Also Infectious.

  • OMG with this "Deep Wounds is not a threat" BS.

If you have Deep Wounds you can do exactly 2 things; run or mend. If you run you leave scratch marks, that means it will be harder to stealth the killer or break chase. If you mend, now you have to waste time doing that and you are vulnerable if the killer sees you.

It's meant to waste time and force you to avoid the killer. It's not meant to be lethal or as a means to down survivors.

As for Deathslinger, he has been out LESS THAN A DAY. Maybe play him more before you judge, the fact he can alter survivor movement with his power actually looks pretty strong. I don't disagree that gen speed is too fast but dear God, he is brand ######### new.

I swear too many killer mains around here are too cynical for their own good. It's never "oh look at this cool thing this killer can do, I wonder how to take advantage of that". Instead it's always "this one thing isn't good for this killer they are F tier REEEEEEE".

  • @johnmwarner said:

If you escape you keep the item still, just not addons. So we’ll still be able to keep our medkits if we get out but not the bonus speed and charges.

To be equal all along if you get to keep everything when you escape a killer should get to keep their addons if they manage a 4K or 3k and hatch

No because killers only have 20 add-ons and get BP way faster. Survivors have 70 items and add-ons in total.

I could literally play MDR/Amulet Spirit forever if I just dump all my BP into Spirit after every game. I can already do it about 60 times without even putting a single BP into her, that's just left overs from getting her p3 all perks.

I cannot run Engineer's with BNP and Swivel Socket every game as survivor, even if I dump all my BP into them after each game. I can't do that NOW, and I definitely wouldn't be able to do it after the update.

There's nothing wrong with keeping the add-ons for the item if you escape without using up the entire item.

  • What about the 15 other killers that aren't getting an update either? Why is Legion always brought up like they need it sooo bad? Bubba and Clown need updates WAY more than Legion. Legion is in a pretty good spot to be entirely honest. They aren't a super strong killer, but they definitely aren't the weakest.

I swear Legion mains are so emo.

  • Agreed.

The current system is fine IMO. If you use an item completely, poof gone. That's on you. If you don't use it completely and escape you keep it with the add-ons. I don't see a problem with this at all.

  • I actually think Hangman's Trick will become meta, purely for the aura reads it's going to give now. Combo it with BBQ and you know where every survivor is now.

As for the notification, it gives a notification in the present form, but now that hook sabo will be faster and done "on the fly" as the devs put it, it will let you avoid carrying all the way to the hook and letting the survivor struggle free. Like you get the notification, see what hook it is, and if you can't make another hook you just drop the guy immediately to slug them instead. I don't think the notification is for you to stop the guy, more for you to avoid carrying to a hook that's about to get sabo'd.

I am curious about the timings though. I think it was @Almo that said hook stayed sabo'd for 30 seconds. But Hangman's Trick is 30/20/10 seconds so I wonder if it will cut down the time at all. Maybe it will subtract 0/10/20 seconds. IDK. I guess we will see tomorrow.

  • TBF, latency is not an easy problem to fix. Like, you can only do so much to account for the fact that light actually has a travel time, and that you can't make everyone's machine show the exact same thing at the exact same time. Theory of relativity and all.

That said the game does feel extra janky on dedi's. Like it would be inconsistent before too but this is a whole new level.

I remember when Gears of War 2 switched to dedi's. It really changed the game overnight (though it was hard to gauge because they also update the Gnasher to be a ######### sniper rifle in the same update). But from then on it always felt like the guy with the worst ping in the room got away with the most BS. Prior to that the only one that could pull off the BS was host, and only if they were a laggy host. My best friend had a 300MB connection back during the days of Gears 1, everyone that connected to him would have full bars (basically green ping, <30ms) and the game played very smooth. I miss the good 'ol days.

  • Not great for survivors either. I dropped a pallet on a Spirit, got the stun and a second later got hit.

Another time I clearly vault the window and take 5 steps only to get hit anyway, despite the killer having swung 3 seconds ago.

    Amazing.

  • Agreed. There is nothing wrong with the way it works now. If you use up your item, that's on you. Should get to keep add-ons if you escape with the item and don't use it.

Now you survivors know how us killers feel >:DDD

Except that killers only have 20 add-ons and get BP are a significantly faster rate to sustain. I could literally run MDR/Amulet Spirit from now until the end of time if I dump all my BP into Spirit after each game. Can't do that as survivor with 70 items/add-ons.

  • Obviously the killer is gonna just camp the wall until it breaks.

  • I agree it would be nice if they had apples do something else. I always felt apples should be base kit and I ran them all the time as Plague because they are necessary, but with this change they won't be as necessary or as useful.

Personally I would make apples increase cleanse time, and Ashen Apple does that plus increases infection time on objects like it does now.

  • The only thing is that it's going to be absolutely necessary on some maps to destroy specific walls. I can see the killer just running to these walls first thing to kill god windows. Granted they should be fixed but this seems like the wrong way to do it.

  • If Xbox servers go down you still can't play the game because you won't be able to log onto Xbox.

  • When Plague can use Corrupt Purge she is actually a very strong killer. I'm happy with this change because it means she can actually use her power and will be at the level she SHOULD be.

However this change make apples somewhat obsolete, so I hope the devs decide to rework those add-ons now. Maybe something like they increase cleanse time, that would be reasonable.

  • I don't like any of these changes. Toolbox changes are necessary, but losing add-ons when you escape and items being disabled instead of just used up is stupid IMO.

Just make the changes to toolboxes and leave items as they were. If you used up your item that was your fault honestly.
