Look at DBDs competitive scene (or lack thereof compared to other major games) to answer that question.
What does that have to do with being balanced?

Its not because you need 2 or 3 gen defemce perk that the game is too fast
You don't need any defense. You only need it because you chose to sweat. If you sweat, you will be matched with equally sweaty survivors. I don't understand why people have so much trouble understanding concept of SBMM.

For me right now there is no middle ground. Either super sweaty team or little puppies.
Than stop sweating when you have puppies and your next match you will not get destroyed
-
If you don't sweat so much, your games will last longer, as you will be matched with survivors who also don't sweat.
-
Sweaty killers complaining about sweaty survivors. What else is new?
-
de-mmr yourself and then do it.
-
I think it has to be over longer period. Even doing it 10 matches in a row is not very noticeable.

These devs don't care. Don't waste your time, as nothing will change. Best thing to do is to take your time and money elsewhere.

You must be new here... These devs don't care. Save your time and play another game if you don't enjoy this one in the current state. I stopped spending money on it after sbmm came on because the game won't last long. People are not happy.

There was no measure of skill to begin with if that's the point you're making, if you're saying the old ranking and matchmaking measured skill then this has to be a bait post or you just started the game a few months ago

What do you not understand ?!! The 6.1% you keep using is NOT to be relied on to see how many currently are at R1-5, since the 6.1% is not from the current active players which are around 60K player a day (steam only) but from ALL the accounts that have DBD registered on them. GET IT ?
Fair matches ? i'm talking about Competition. Old ranking system had no competition, but current one does. SBMM is great for competitive players since now we can actually compete against strong opponent(s). If you fail to see this then you lack the competitive mindset, sorry.
" is not from the current active players" - And? You still not answered my question, how is it relevant if player is active or not?
"SBMM is great for competitive players since now we can actually compete against strong opponent(s)" - how do you know that? You are competing against equal players. They are neither strong nor weak. That's the whole point of SBMM. If there is no leaderboard and no ranks than you have absolutely no measure of where you are.

A good player will know when their opponents are top tier...
Your opponents are supposed to be your tier all the time if SBMM is working correctly. Not good tier. Not bad tier. Your tier. And since you don't know what your tier is, you can't know anything about your opponent tier other than it matches yours.
-
@The_Krapper said:
So which is it then? There's the narrative that SBMM makes your games a sweatfest now, and here you are saying it's non competitive and you're out, I don't think there's any difference in gameplay other than I'm paired with solo players that actually have brain cells now, my killer gameplay has been normal I've been to rank 1 killer every reset since the game dropped and I can honestly say I notice zero difference in the survivors I get
(facepalm)
I never even talked about how hard of easy matches are. All I'm saying is that there is no MEASURE of skill now. Nothing you said has anything to do with measure of skill. I'm not talking about winning or losing a single match. I'm saying there is no tracking of individual progress.

6.1% Of ALL accounts that have DBD, and not only the active DBD players. So you can't rely on it for actual statistics of current active players.
You don't have competitive mindset. Competitive players likes SBMM for the challenge it gives and how hard the matches are when competing against others, and not because some random rank that doesn't mean anything ( yes, it doesn't measure your skills ).
Old Rank : Random matchings, a level 18 can be put to face a SWF consist of R4, R15, R8, R8. Literally no competition, the level 18 will find it hard to compete and will be destroyed no questions asked. Meanwhile the SWF will go ez mode on him and bully him without bothering using a single brain cell and still win easily.
SBMM : Killer and the Survivors have aprox the same ratings, meaning the gap of skill between the two sides are on a similar level making the match fair which in turn create competition between the two sides. Both will have to compete and use their skills to the fullest to see it through.
Which one is good for competitive players ? Ez Answer, SBMM.
"It's dead to me. As in I'm done with it." Words of a wannabe competitive player.
"So you can't rely on it for actual statistics of current active players." - how is it relevant if they are currently active or not?
You can check time played by percentile to understand that it's not relevant: https://howlongis.io/app/381210/Dead+by+Daylight
You keep talking about fair matches... But that has nothing to do with what I'm talking about, which is measure of skill. Those 2 things are unrealated.
-
@Seraphor said:
With MMR it's precisely as competitive as you want it to be.
With rank based matchmaking, everyone grinded to rank 1 ASAP, and then you had a massive pool of red/purple rank players to match with, with wildly differing results. How is anything about that 'competitive'?
Now, when you get better, so do your opponents. That's competitive.
"Now, when you get better, so do your opponents. That's competitive." - that's correct. But without any measure, you have no idea if you are better.

Ok...but I mean, if that was your reward you still get that with your emblem changing and climbing up as you continue to play. So you get the same thing, only difference is BHVR has out right said that the emblem means nothing, which again the old rankings also literally meant nothing. If they did then I wouldn't have been facing red rank SWF teams when I was still new to the game and just entered green ranks.
At least now the emblems actually will be an indicator for an actual reward when the reset hits. The higher you are with your emblem, the more BP you get. So there's your actual reward, which you can use, unlike just like before where all you can do is flaunt your emblem thinking that it means you got a big pp.
"The higher you are with your emblem, the more BP you get. So there's your actual reward," - As I said, if that's what you feel is rewarding to you, I'm happy for you. Unfortunately, that doesn't represent skill, so I don't care about it.
"old rankings also literally meant nothing" - if that meant nothing to you, you are entitled to your opinion. I have a different one.
See, everything you said is based on your opinion. Do you feel for some reason that other people should have same opinion? I'm asking because you don't have any facts. You are just describing what you are experiencing and how you feel. But you surely understand that everyone is different, right?

The issue with the Rank 1 is that it didn't represent the top. Rank 1 was a mix of potatoes and decent players. All it really took was play time.
Only 6.1% of PC players have Rank 1, despite playing 192 hours on average. So, I call BS on what you believe about rank 1.
I had 200 hours and I only got to rank 3 as survivor. Now my goal of getting to rank 1 is gone forever.

Ummm....yeah, so let me see if I got this straight. Before MMR you say that you felt rewarded only because you got to see your rank (which lul, literally meant nothing btw) move up or down? But now that we have an actual MMR that determines your skill, which also rewards us each reset with BP depending how high we go with our ranks, suddenly we don't have rewards? Ummm...ok. I'll remember that as I cash in my BP later on either my P1 Legion or on a survivor and give that side a try for once.
" Before MMR you say that you felt rewarded only because you got to see your rank" - you got that right. Why do you feel that other people should feel rewarded in the same way as you are?

You've played 200+ hours and you've barely made it to Rank 3. There you go, that solves everything. You are not this "minority" of competitive players, you're the target audience here. The casual player. Rejoice.
There are multiple definitions of this word and you are missing that one that I'm using:
/kəmˈpedədiv/
adjective
adjective: competitive
having or displaying a strong desire to be more successful than others.
You can be competitive even with 0 hours and rank 20, as long as you "having or displaying a strong desire to be more successful than others."
There is nothing in the definition that requires you to achieve that success in a certain number of hours. Learn English, it's not that hard.

@Mr_K said:

Yes, rank 1 emblem was special to me. I'm it's not special to you, I'm happy for you and you can move on. Jessus, it seems like half the people on this thread just trying to belittle random person who they don't know just because that person finds importance in something they don't care about. You don't need an arbitrary number to know whether you're better or worse, though. At least I don't. It's obvious from how you play and the opponents you go up against.
The old system made it possible to club baby seals and get crazy win streaks without actually improving. MMR requires you to actually be better if you want to do well.
If you don't need that number, I'm happy for you. I need it because I have no other way to measure myself.

LOL you know console does not have rank 1 achievements. So you base your argument off 1 platform and say it's hard to get rank 1 (It's not we all know this).
PC players are a simple random sample (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simple_random_sample) of all dbd players, so they represent the entire group (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sample_size_determination). If you still don't understand what I'm saying, take STAT 101 in your local college and than take some time to laugh at what you said.

What? I always thought old ranking was a joke and even a caveman can do it. The game just got competitive today to me. Making iri 1 starting from ash 4 with MMR is way more competitive than without. Rank 1 every month starting from rank 5 with old matchmaking made you feel competitive? Weird
Apparently only 6.1% of all PC players are cavemen:
Source: https://steamcommunity.com/stats/381210/achievements
Legendary survivor
Reach survivor online rank 1.
6.1%
And apparently I'm not a caveman, because highest I ever got was 3. But you are free to believe whatever you made up in your mind. Myself, I'll look at stats.

Wasn't Rank 1 always just a testament to time played and not skill anyways? So you're complaining that a game that never had a ladder or anything resembling a skill rating still has neither of those things? In fact, it finally added a system that would gauge your skill and match you with and against equally skilled players. But because you can't see the number you're upset?
Priorities buckaroo.
I can't imagine having that much of my fun in a game tied to a number in the corner of the screen....

What on earth are you talking about. If you played the game with a competitive mindset, you didn't see your rank improve because even casual players would hit Rank 1 few days after reset. So either you are not a competitive player and you are actually a player with a very casual skillset, or you're just trying to find something to complain about.
You know that just because you believe that doesn't make it true, right? Only 6.1% of all pc players ever achieved rank 1 as survivor. The highest I ever got was rank 3 and that is after about 200 survivor hours.

I'm cutting out irrelevant information. I have same experience with all killers. On the other hand, I'm on receiving end when playing solo q survivor. I have probably around 100 hours experience as survivor and I was just paired with Twins killer with almost 1800 hours. We did 1 gen. By now I lost probably around 20 matches as survivor and nothing is improving in matchmaking. I've never had such horrible matchmaking before.

They've been collecting MMR data for months and months. Survivor players are where they're meant to be, it's only veteran killers playing Pinhead that messes with the matchmaking RN.
Just look at twitch streams of pros who play 6 hours a day. It's messed up on every killer for everyone, even for those that play for living.
-

Is there a clarification topic anywhere that the Devs have posted on how the new ranking system works?
Don't count on it. They know it would be to easy to criticize it and they don't want that. No one wants to show something that they are not proud of.
-
@MadLordJack said:
Are you seriously trying to claim that there's a conspiracy to trick players into thinking that they replaced the old sbmm system with a new, hidden one but instead didn't do anything?
Almost. I think they have the old system, but separated it by killer, maybe tweaked a few minor parameters because each killer has slightly different scoring system. It's blatantly obvious to me that there is not actual SKILL based matchmaking in place.
-
In what world is this fine? Match after match same story. When I try survivor, I'm the potatoe who end with less than 10k. When I play killer, it's someone else miserable. Just stop this SBMM nonsense already.
-
It's the opposite for me as killer main. My killer matches are great, but solo q is just miserable. I escape maybe 1 in 10 games. I barely play survivor and I'm matched with sweatiest all meta killers. Just head 2 games in a row against different Blights with exactly same build: BBQ, ruin, undying, sloppy. This gets stale very quickly. I'm not buying next rift if this ######### continues.
-
"so I practically got the full rainbow" - same question, how is it fine? You describing a random system, not the one that supposed to match your skill.
"the whole reason SBMM exists in the first place is to make sure those extremes don't happen in the first place" - that's what I'm trying to say. Extremes are not fine.
-
"In some games, I played against baby killers that had no clue what they were doing at all. I also played against some very talented killers that were typically playing meta killers such as nurse with thousands of hours in the game." - how is this fine?
-
@Mr_K said:

They implemented an overall MMR rating for Killers you haven't played. This is to prevent skilled killers facing new players.
I'm killer main. I've played over 30 matches with the new killer and nothing is changing. How many miserable matches do you think people should have?
I'm also potato survivor because I only play it for rift challenges and half the killers I faced are Grade 1 that destroy my solo queue with absolutely no chance. Like I'm out of the game with less than 10k BP. The last 2 days were absolutely miserable in solo queue, which I'm stuck in because killer queues are atrocious atm.
-
@Mr_K said:
It won't matter in a few more days. Then we all are Ash rank and Grade will just reflect playtime.
Grades is not the problem. It's grossly mismatched skills under the new system.

A month you say? It's an entertainment product. Who doesn't value their time and wants to spend a month of their time to be miserable instead of being entertained? This is how entertainment products die. I was going to buy another $20 of auric cells, but now I'm postponing it in case this shat dies.

This is pretty much what I'd have said if I was going to elaborate. And I'm not even new, I've been playing DBD for almost 4 years. The state of this game right now is worse than I've ever seen it. I don't know what possessed them to start SBMM in the manner that they did, with everyone starting from zero. You are correct, they are going to alienate the solo queue players on both sides, and that is the meat of their player base.
"start SBMM in the manner that they did" - I wish it was just the start. I've had about 30 matches as pinhead, since I'm trying to P3 him and it's still like that after all this time. Since I'm killer main and only play survivor for rift challenges, I'm potato survivor and I'm continuously matched with top pinheads that sometimes get 4k with only 1 or 2 gens done. I don't know who thought it's acceptable.

HA, if the killer doesn't know what they're doing, survivors are doing a little dance, tbagging, saying git gud, flashlight them 50 times because they get to abuse the ######### out of the baby killer
True. But that was before SBMM. Now it's reversed. Just had another game full of potatos. I feel so bad. And you can tell how frustrating it is for them. I don't understand how I'm still getting those grades after having 3k and 4k with new killer almost every match. They have no fun. BHVR is destroying solo queue survivors interest in this game.
-
@spirit72 said:
What I've learned over the past 24 hours is that DBD is no longer a game that is worth my time or concern.

@Pikachaouuu said:
Well, as i am aware if there is a low number of people with a similar mmr to you and since there is a new killer in town they will be less matches avalaible then they have to fill with potatoes. it could also be that the low grade players are friends of other people in the lobby so they average mmr is used for making a lobby.
Most of my lobbies have been golds with silver/bronce players and some iris here and there and you can really tell them apart before knowing wich grade they have, i'm having quite some fun since most of the rituals the game has been giving me are from killers i don't use much so i can do them and even have a chance to win the matches.
"you can really tell them apart before knowing wich grade they have" - that's exactly what I'm saying. If what BHVR is trying to make us believe that it's truly skill based matchmaking, we shouldn't be able to predict their grades. I would bet that I can guess grade color 80% of the time before seeing results. How is that possible with true SBMM?
