And if you really hate BBQ, run Distortion. Being able to commit to gens 3 times without worrying about the reveal is pretty nice.
-
It does encourage Killers not to camp and, it can be countered. If you don't want to be revealed anticipate the perk, especially on fast Killers. Find a locker or move in close to the hook.
I once posted an idea that instead of a hard reveal, have the survivor's scream. This gains the benefit of interrupting Survivor actions and nerfs the hard reveal. I only worry that we would lose some of the motivation to not camp.
-
Because once you get good with Killer, you are better than 80% of the Survivors.
If the ranking system was hard for Survivors to pip up, Red rank Killers would be waiting a long time for a match.
I consider myself a fairly decent survivor, my looping is getting stronger and I'm good at tracking the Killer while I run away. A good Killer will stomp me though. I pip up to Red ranks then, don't enjoy being there.
-
If you are playing at Red ranks and getting paired with Red Killers, you basically need to play swf or play very selfish if you want a chance to live.
Being in Red ranks usually means that you at least play the game enough to know what you are doing. Red rank killers are often pretty good and at that level of play if you get paired with a couple bad teammates it's GG.
The Highest rank of play in DBD without a team is brutal. Skilled Killers, knowledgeable, a small pool of roughly 8 meta perks you will face over and over again.
I usually pip up to Red ranks as survivor then, don't enjoy being there. I don't have dedicated swf friends so I play solo a lot.
People have mentioned optional "in game comms" many times, it might help close the gap between solo and swf but, it would result in harder play for Killers.
-
I'm not a Killer main mostly because, I don't find it to be fun. It feels like an anxiety attack.
I've thought for a while that DBD needs another mechanic to give the Killer some breathing room. I suppose totems kind of help but mostly survivors will just gen rush unless Ruin is up.
I'm not really sure what, but some side mechanic that can distract away from generators and hooks.
-
Tunneling is a part of the game.
It's just ######### to do it to someone early on as, you relentlessly remove them from the game.
It can be increasingly frustrating when survivor cues are close to ten minutes long.
-
I have several hundred hours in the game and, I would say I'm a decent survivor. I usually end up in red ranks but, I don't find that level of play fun.
Going against red rank killers is too much sweat, same meta perks over and over again. Knowers, that know everything.
I play solo so my team is a dice roll. If I had friends at my level of play maybe red rank wouldn't be so bad as swf.
I look forward to rank reset just to have fun.
-
I'm pretty sure Trickster is gay.
-
It needs a rebalance. I think that addons like this being allowed for so long only shows BHVR's slow progress towards fixing anything.
-
What percentage of the player base is even playing at sweat hard red rank?
If Nurse and Spirit being allowed to be OP is to address red rank SWF, I doubt it's even very many players.
Nurse gets a pass because she is straight forward and hard to master. Spirit is just dumb and not fun.
-
When more people are playing, I feel like matchmaking has an easier job of pairing. When the que times start getting long I know I'll start seeing rainbow ranks. I suppose this is okay because, I would rather get a match than keep waiting for similar ranks.
Also, rank resets and, if you stop playing for a while basically, a thousand hour red rank can be dropped back in the teens and Smash face for a little while so, I'm not sure that rank is even a clear reflection of skill.
I will say that it does require some skill and luck to retain red rank on survivor end. I don't really try to, I feel the game gets too sweaty. I also don't have red ranked friends, all of my friends are below my rank and, I usually stay in purples.
-
No, in fact I would say the continued growth and survival of DBD relies on new players being able to jump in and have fun.
DBD tends to be a game filled with hidden mechanics and long term experience. I've played with several casual friends who still don't understand how BBQ works or, how important it is to be ready for the "reveal" perks.
Most new players probably come in survivor side as friends introduce them to the game.
To some people the games draw is really about horror atmosphere and its not a first person shooter.
I actually support efforts to make the game more friendly and transparent when it comes to builds. The options, perks, addons, changes just keeps growing and new players get dropped into a sea of mechanics playing out around them, they are often oblivious to.
-
As survivor main, I'm not that great. I getting better at loops, I just play a lot and pip up. The hard sweats at red ranks are not fun. I usually am in purple ranks but, get pulled into red ranked games often... It's not fun.
-
The RE2 License is my hope.
Nemesis, Claire, Leon
Solid.
-
I want the RE2 License.
Nemesis, Claire and Leon.
-
They've had a lot of maps to rework for next gen gaming. The entire game has been given a facelift over the past year.
Now that is finally wrapping up and, I'm expecting big things for RE chapter. That license is huge, many of us have speculated long about how it would be.
I'm looking forward to old maps being done and, new content. You guys have knock RE out of the park.
-
Hag has way too many traps, the hook farming is ridiculous and her ability to be everywhere is just dumb.
I used to think Doc was OP and a good Doc can be very tough, just a lot of pressure but, idk the games are challenging and kinda fun
Bubba sucks, Partly because his chainsaw is pretty OP but, more than that, it must be the memes or something. People play Bubba and just turn toxic AF. Yeah, I know someone tea bagged you or something... whatever.
-
The counter to this argument would be, if you were a smart solo or, team you would be breaking Hex totems before endgame. This is obviously harder to achieve in solo but, I certainly try. New Small Game perk buff will help.
NOED is a crutch perk with no guarantee you will get value. It can help new players or slow killers pull some extra kills. Hopefully most people realize it's garbage after the learning phase.

I play hard most of the time because if I'm destroying a team, they obviously don't need to be ranking up and going against somebody who's better than me.
Way I see it, we complain about the matchmaker a lot - and yet we do things that make it not reflect the skill level of players by "going easy" on people. Seems a bit hypocritical to me as far as I'm concerned.
It's not that incapable of occasional kindness - if somebody playing well but the other three guys are complete potatos, then I may go easy on the guy who deserves to rank up as it isn't that guy's fault his teammates were idiots.
We really shouldn't be letting people rank up who don't deserve it
I suppose I understand not allowing people to rank who shouldn't but, is that really the case when yellow ranks are matched up with a red killer? Of course they likely aren't at that level of play.
Regardless of rank, I know when I'm wrecking a team and they have no chance. I don't mind holding back and letting the game play on.
I don't really understand why matchmaker even allows that, what's the purpose of a rank system if not to separate the level of play?

If you're waiting three to five minutes to decide if you need to play hard against a good team and they are a good team, you'll find out quick because the game will be over in about another minute or two :D
It's a big issue with Red Rank but one I'm not sure how you'd really solve. Killers are Red Rank have to go full on out right away because if they don't and they're playing a good team, it'll be over immediately. If I'm slaughtering a team because it's clear they're an average or below average team, by the time I pump the breaks on them, it's usually too late for them to catch back up (unless I play patronizingly bad just to let them back in the game, which might be even more insulting than just finishing them off; although I've done that for survivors and STILL gotten T-Bagged at the end so I'm not even sure it's worth it as a killer to worry about slaughtering them...).
I guess I'm saying within a few minutes, I know whether to play hard or not. I actually like the games where I clearly outclass survivors because, I can set the speed of the match. I can leave people on the ground, slug and "play with my food".
It all adds up to bloodpoints anyways and, I know how it feels to wait on survivor cue sometimes just to get rolled or, die on my first hook.
-
Go ahead, play Spirit. It will be quick and I can cue back up and, hope for a decent killer.
-
Idk, maybe it was rank reset. I noticed all the survivors were back to green and yellow ranks while, we are getting paired with red and purple Killers immediately after reset.
The cues for late-night CST are around ten minutes. Just to get rekt by someone sweating balls.
For some reason early daytime has quick cues and better games.
-
I always thought keys should only be found "in game". This would make chest perks more valuable and, give a player with no other chance to escape a small opportunity to find a key in a chest.

Toxic behavior = *Trying to win* ; *having fun*
Waiting ten minutes for a survivor cue to face insta-down ranged Iri head, is not fun...
-
Very rarely do I see a survivor bring a key. like 5% of matches if that.
I don't know what BHVR plans on reworking for keys but, I always thought they should only be found in game. Like, the match has gone horribly and your only chance is to try to find a key.
-
I don't understand why some survivors choose to unhook immediately after the killer walks away. Yes, borrowed time can be used this way but, you are still offering the killer free chase and continued pressure on the team.
That being said, I'd say half the Killers I face proxy camp the hooks anyway. As in they almost always come back to catch the unhook. It's a strategy that applies consistent pressure on the team but, they sacrifice gen pressure. Which would be fine if the whole team wasn't trying to save me.
-
These reveal addons are a part of the "hidden mechanics" problem. I'm sure many people play this game for hundreds of hours and have never bought Myers and have no idea about scratched mirror.
I had played for hundreds of hours and had no idea Wraith has a reveal addon. The only reason I knew Oni has a reveal addon is because I happen to play Oni a lot.
I've never been thrilled about the hidden mechanic side of this game. It takes a long while to learn what you're up against and we keep adding more and more Killers, perks, addons. I'm not surprised at all.
I couldn't tell you how many times I've watched players try to hide while BBQ just popped. Survivors that try to hide when I'm Legion frenzy.
-
It's an option given to you in the game. If you want to go out on the hook, fine.
Now DC's should be reported and eventually banned if abused.
-
SWF is a big draw for players. I dont play swf very much but, it's always fun.
Be thankful that a lot of people still choose to play solo.

I had a Twins game with an obvious SWF that was going for sabo plays and flashy saves. After they succeeded getting the first save, I said screw it and slugged the whole team. They couldn’t flashy save or sabo if I never picked up another Survivor.
Decided to end the game with zero hook at 4 gens and let them all bleed out on the floor after Victor destroyed their whole toxic ass team.
Is that toxic? Or is it deserved?
Sabo and saves is skilled team playing. On one side, they weren't gen rushing you and it's very risky to play this way, (also very fun).
Slugging them is fine, leaving them to bleed is toxic.

Dead Hard.

You looped the killer for 5 gens on meat plant. You are amazing looper, good job.
Too many God pallets on one map. I completely agree. I dont understand why anyone thought it was a good idea.
-
Waiting ten minutes for a survivor cue just to get one shot downed, camped or tunneled. Then wait ten more minutes to play the game.
-
Imagine suffering through life with the constant desire to be validated by everything and everyone around you.
I don't even care if a character is gay or anything else but, the constant demand for representation is sad and pathetic.
You dont need a video game character or a movie star to be confident in yourself, grow up.
-
For some reason mid morning is the best time to play for me, CST. I would say 8am - 12pm.
During the evening the cues are too long. It's not fun to wait 10 minutes for a match, get tunneled and, then wait ten minutes for a match.
-
I dont refuse to play any but, I will divebomb the Killer if they play dirty, unfun.

I'm still surprised it's so low... 56% kill rate for all ranks, which is even more surprising. That includes the red rank stats. Although, I kinda would like to see how many killers are actually in red rank. I assume not too many based on Steam achievements being the upperbound.
It defies a lot of community assumptions. The general logic is that noob killers have an easier time compared to noob survivors and if survivor skill is equal to killer skill the killer should win.
Well, even at 56% this implies a slight skew towards Killer. The before mentioned 68% at red ranks pretty vastly favors Killer so...
I would like to see the kill rate after this update, lol!

50/50 mindgames are mindgames lmao. So encouraging a skillful part of the game by nerfing a crutch is bad? Am I getting that right?
The "second chance" perks are really designed to prolong the chase and waste the Killers time. It's a game of time management.
Killer perks like Ruin, Sloppy Butcher, Thanataphobia essentially do the same thing, waste survivor time.
-
In my experience playing US CST. I would say 1 or 2 survivors escaping is the norm and, that makes sense, it's closer to a tie.
In games where all survivors escape or Killer 4k's. It's often a one sided match where, one side is clearly out playing the other.

Removing the unfair part about the perk and actually making it take skill to use and forward thinking is making it useless?
You realise that you can only loop a Killer for so long before they bloodlust and catch you or, force you into a 50/50 mind game which basically comes down to luck?
-
Funny how we dont constantly see threads about how the Killers constantly DC. Almost like the game is skewed towards Killers and not much fun for Survivors.
I'm my experience as a main survivor with a few hundred hours in the game, survivor play has very high points when you make good plays and have competent teammates but, those games are scarce. Mostly it's just getting wrecked by Killers, especially after this last update.
Realizing Myers has broken mirror or, Oni is using the Glove reveal addon, Wraith also has reveal addon, BBQ, Nurse's Calling, Undying, Legion, ect.
Very oppressive when you cant make plays without being discovered damn near every time.
Add dirty tactics like, camping hooks, tunneling, ect. Survivor play can very quickly become less than fun.
-
So give the survivor a small speed boost to avoid a hit then, make them unable to do anything with the distance so, that the Killer can just hit them anyway...
Sounds amazing!
-
First off, not all killers are good at gen patrol. If you are playing a slow M1 killer, gen patrol is not much option.
What you can do, is try to secure a three gen set up that you can control.
Often killers that dont have the mobility to patrol gens must play another style, slugging, trapping, stalking for auto downs, ect.

People ######### about DS, Unbreakable, Soul Guard, Borrowed Time, whatever else. What I don't understand is why people don't complain about Dead Hard nearly as much. I almost never see it talked about despite it being at the very least one of the most busted survivor perks in the game.
Dead Hard, when used right, is--to me at least--the most oppressive survivor perk. In chase, it's basically a free health state, and especially against certain killers like Nurse. And all you have to do is press E. No talent involved, wasting so much time of the killer, and it's not something with limited use (like unbreakable which can only be used once), or something that the killer allows you to use (DS).
It doesn't really matter if half the time it's used you're exhausted on the ground. You can make a similar case in point that DS is not very impactful on a game because people use it as soon as possible, often times after their first hook, rather than preserving it for more critical times. Same with Unbreakable: using it as soon as possible rather than strategically.
DH is the most infuriating piece of shite perk ever but I don't ever see people complain about it and rallying around it getting reworked and I actually don't understand why.
The game is designed for Killers to win chases. You are faster (typically), have special abilities and, can use perks to reveal Survivors.
The "second chance" perks only really delay the inevitable and waste the Killer's time. Without these perks Survivors could only rely on strong loops, windows and, pallets, basically at the mercy of the map tiles and pallet spawns.
Perks and build combos that slow down survivor progress essentially do the same thing, waste survivor time. It's a game of time management really. You're overall build, style of play and, choices in the match will often determine who wins. Aside from hatch escape.

Ok, and? Survivor perks reward bad gameplay too. DH, SB, and DS, to name a few.
Well, the game is literally designed for the Killer to win chases. These perks merely prolong the inevitable.
-
It's easy to form a bias, especially if you favor one side over the other.
I'm survivor main, mostly solo and, my friends aren't good so... swf is not much advantage, lol!
I think a part of the problem is the Survivor gameplay is split between skilled swf and random solos who cant communicate. This leaves a wide gap between giving the killer an actual challange or, a skilled killer rolling through solo's.
Also the developers slow response to OP builds and "meta" gaming. OP builds, perks, ect, dominate much of the game. They are often the most unfun things to play against and, feel oppressive to both sides.
They are concerned with constant visual updates, cosmetics and, new content. I understand those pay the bills but, the underlying problems often go overlooked for far too long.
-
@Sluzzy said:
I think OP is saying it is too easy to play killer and he is right. I agree with this. I wouldn't doubt an 8 year could 4K a majority of games, it is that easy to play as killer. You can watch killer streams on twitch and they never lose. Anyone that denies this are out of touch with reality. Killer is too easy. And survivor is a miserable mess.
He wasnt always able to 4k. He plays Demogorgon pretty exclusively and, he's not the strongest killer. Since the update though... murder fest!
-
Some people seem to think young kids shouldn't play this game. It's silly, I watched horror movies with murder, T&A, swear words, all of the above as a child and, I turned out just fine. I don't shelter my children and they know the difference between real and fantasy.
They love Stranger Things and if they want to slay survivors as Demogorgon, I'll gladly accept the BP's.
Beware survivors, I'm raising some gamers here, lol!
-
They need to just offer in game voice (optional), so we can move beyond the two tier playstyle. It throws balance completely out of whack.

I feel you. I also get some bad headaches from the game, but not from the HUD. In my case it's doctor's obnoxious flashing when you're in tier 2 or 3. Especially tier 3 is really headache inducing. The constant flashing and the face that is appearing in the screen makes it that I can only play one doctor match each day.
After the first one, I just go afk after I get shocked once and let the killer either farm me or kill myself on hook. I can't stand the doctor's tier 2-3.
I haven't seen doctor too much lately. I like the idea of a sanity killer but often times he feels very oppressive. Combined with BBQ, you better find a locker.
The HUD is an issue but, I'm having problems with the movement and syncing. I like to play risky, Breakout builds and, save survivors. I feel like I can't judge the distance anymore or, make clutch plays.
